28: A song by an artist with a voice that you love

I have been trying to narrow this down for sooo loong but suffice to say I know who I pick there’s just too many songs to choose just one that is perfect. They’re ALL perfect! This artist has an insane vocal talent, capable of singing delicate and impassioned ballads, and in the same turn growling strong anthems alongside thick rock guitar. I think I will choose these two songs because they encompass a broad spectrum of his skill, but I highly recommend flipping through some of this bands tracks as their songs have a lot of variety! Nothing But Thieves: Real Love Song If I Get High * (* I love the original, but the alternate version on EP ‘II’ is also a v good stripped version that focuses on his voice!)

30: A song that reminds you of yourself

ok I just suck at picking one song, clearly, but here are two: Houndmouth: Sedona As someone who works in the film inudstry ‘little hollywood’ is a nickname that resonates, and this song captures the vibe of all the ups and downs that come with the chaotic lifestyle that comes with my career. I do blast this and yell along to it in my car when things are going particularly tough because it always puts me in a good mood.

AJR: Christmas in June this band has a ton of very relatable lyrics and I love singing along to their boppy melodies about all the things no one talks about but most people feel. Very cathartic. This song in particular hits home because of aforementioned career. I have to put my personal life on hold for 8 to 10 months at a time, which means I miss out on… a lot. Weddings, births, birthdays, funerals, and all the little day to day mornings and evenings with my loved ones…(yay 80hr work weeks) it all goes out the window for huge chunks of time, and even when I do make plans my ever-changing schedules of a film production make me flaky when I have to cancel on friends and family last minute because of reshoots or extended hours. Just last month I had to cancel on my grandfather three weeks in a row due to work conflict. Wanna hang out? My current next free hour for a phone call is three weeks away. Fun!

💝what is a fic that got a different response than you were expecting? Ok I have 2 that really surprised me!

Keep Me Closer I wrote this thing in a few sprints and didn’t try too hard with it. Well, it compltely blew up (also thanks to some high profile people in the fandom really liking it and promoting it) and it’s by FAR my most popular fic. It kind of makes me cry because of how little time or effort I put into it vs some of my other fics that I slaved over and never got half the traction, but that’s life!

Your Pain (is mine now) I wasn’t sure this one would be well recieved becuse things kind of ‘fade to black’ before the real fucking begins, so instead of a Porn Without Plot it’s more like Plot without Porn… oops??? I mean it’s definitely still explicit in the lead up, but it deals so much more with the emotional moment and heaviness than the sexy actions and I didn’t think it would get much attention. I was wrong! People loved that aspect of it! The immense positive reaction I got to it actually inspired me to write another fic exploring similar themes, and so far that one has gotten super huge positive feedback as well. I was surprised but pleased to see how many people like a heavy dose of angst served alongside their smut :P

Curbside ok I actually adore this lil fic. It was more born from a sprint where I just sunk into the emotional moment and I loved the way I felt when writing it. I was listening to ‘call my dad’ by AJR on repeat and I didn’t grow up with a dad but I’ve felt that - when you’ve made bad life choices and everything is shitty and you fucked up, and you just want a protective figure to come save you and tell you that despite all the wrong choices you’ve made, everything is okay and they still love you - but alas Louis also does not have a true father figure in this fic, so instead of a saviour he has a toxic relationship to take his bad choices to another level. I always wanted to continue this into a full blown ‘co-dependant toxic relationship’ series but I never came back to it. Perhaps I will in the future because that is a dynamic I think is super juicy!

3: what's your favorite candle scent? depends on the time of year? i like light florals in the spring; heavier florals in the summer; something sandalwood-y or musky in the fall; and something pine-y or sharp in the winter. my two favorite scents, both in candle or perfume for, are tuberose and rain, but it's very hard to find either of those done well, and when they're not done well they're often cloying and awful.

13: what's your comfort food? something warm and in either wrap or pocket-food form. a burrito. a dumpling. a pierogie. etc.

23: favorite piece of clothing? hm. i have this massively oversized navy-and-white checked/plaid flannel shirt i got from an eddie bauer warehouse sale in maybe 1996, and it's still huge and extremely grunge. that might be it.

road trip is absolutely jim kirk, but i’m driving. we’re gonna have a fuckin’ blast, tho. spock on the plane, because i hate flying with a passion, and i feel like he could be a really nice calm presence for me as i have my usual plane meltdown. and mccoy would be great on a train, i think - we could chat or be quiet and watch the scenery, and i think it’d be a good vibe. you know he’d have stories about every town the train went through.

I write...mostly AUs, LOL. I looooove AUs! I love to read about them, I love to write them, I love to tumble them around in my brain until they're all shiny and smooth.

Right now, I am writing a lot of AUs, but depending on what fandom you're in, you may be interested in my Sheith AU where Shiro is "just" a regular astronaut, but gets lost in space for 5 years and then comes home and has to re-integrate into the life that had give him up for dead. Or you might like my Sterek pandemic AU where there's a virus that only affects humans, and Stiles is stuck in a house with the wolves until they can make sure it's safe for him to go home. 2) Which of your own fanfics have you reread the most?

i honestly almost never reread my own stuff - once it's out in the world, rereading it just makes me aware of all the things i wish i'd done better with it, so i tend to not. the main exception to this is if i'm writing a follow-up and i need to remember what i put in the first one (i'm kind of an amnesiac about fics, once they're out of my brain, i forget what was in them altogether).

that said, there are a couple that i do remember rereading. the first would be bitter, bitter, because i was writing because it is my heart, and wanted them to be very close in mood and tone, so i had to remember what i'd done.

the second one i definitely know i've reread is a heart will always remember, because it got significantly more kudos than anything else i wrote for sheith angst week, and i wanted to know why.

the only one i think i've ever reread for pleasure is sweat, tears, or the sea. that one is close to my heart - it's a love letter to california and the pinto fandom, and i just like it, lol.

4) Do you think your style has changed over time? How so?

i don't really think my style has changed much, if at all. hopefully i've improved at writing it! i do think i spent a little more time as an early writer intentionally trying to be funny? and i think i've abandoned that a bit; either funny happens or it doesn't. but otherwise, i think i've stayed about the same.

10) What's a theme that keeps coming up in your writing?

this is a really good question, and one i'd actually really love to hear other people answer about my fics, because i'm sure there are things i don't know are there.

i think the things that i feel come up the most often are things about nurturing, intimacy, and vulnerability. i'm interested in who characters are when they're at their most honest, and what it looks like when they genuinely connect with another character.thanks for the asks!!

well, i certainly produced the most for Voltron, though i did have a good couple Sterek pieces in there.

i think i did probably enjoy writing for vld the most, though- there's something fun about producing content for a show that's still airing.

also, dearly though i love sterek, there's just SO much sterek fic that producing more of it always feels a little like shouting into the void to me.

12) Favorite character to write this year

Shiro. he's just... idk. something about him makes me feel like i have stories to tell about him. i wouldn't be so presumptuous as to say i understand him or identify with him, but maybe i empathize with him a lot.

that i can write something like 110k in 4 months. i've done nano before, i knew i could sprint, but i did not know i could sustain the pace the way i have.

3) Describe the differences between your first fanfic and your most recent fanfic.

LOL. jfc, ok, well, AO3 says the first fanfic i posted was a set of ten pinto music drabbles. i was 26 and had never read fic until five months earlier, so it all felt very, very, new.

my most recent fic is a fairytale retelling, so it's more than twice as long and is more of a story than a series of vignettes. they're different fandoms (pinto and sheith, respectively).

i like to think i've improved as a writer since then, but i was already an adult with an MA when i wrote the first ones, so idk that they're as different as they might be if i'd started writing fic as a teenager, say.

5) You've posted a fic anonymously. How would someone be able to guess you wrote it?

oh man, i did this once back when LJ had kinkmeme pages! ah, the good old days. the easiest way to find me out is probably that i use too many adjectives and my characters have a tendency toward introspection. i also have to really work to keep them having individual voices and not all just sound like me talking, so if i'm writing fast, i'll get lazy about that, and then that's a pretty good giveaway.

yule/advent/christmas! it can be stressful, what with shopping and family and all, but i love christmas music (the ancient stuff in particular, i hate most christmas music written after 1950) and lights and candles and evergreens and snow and the sort of slow-burn of excitement that comes with the winter holidays. also, i'm religious (episcopagan), so it's a emotionally and spiritually meaningful season for me.

green tea: where do you feel most at peace?

either in my bed or out in empty nature. i try never to work or stress in my bed so that it remains a safe retreat for when i need it, and i grew up in the country, so being out in green space with few (or no) other people around is really healing for me.

pu-erh: 3 random facts about myself?

i can roll my tongue. i didn't read any fanfic until i was 27. i started college when i was 16 (and then promptly turned 17, late birthday).
