Fic Commissions: EDITED

There was a little confusion in regards to pricing so here's an updated version that hopefully makes sense. If you can't help by donating/ commissioning, then please signal boost this post by reblogging it.

So if you’ve been following my personal posts on my blog recently then you’ll know that I am quickly running out of money, facing my last month of being able to pay for my rent, and facing either moving back in with my parents or homelessness, neither of which will be good for my mental health.

I am currently trying to find a good way to deal with my mental illnesses as well as figure out what’s wrong with my in terms of my physical health. To cut a long story short, I am bedridden for a week every other month/ every three months, which makes it nearly impossible for me to hold down any kind of job. Not only that but working actually makes my physical and mental health deteriorate at a faster speed.

I’m also looking for something that not only won’t make me sick, but that will work around my streaming schedule (www.twitch.tv/shinybif) but even doing those two things is exhausting for me.

The costs are as follows:

A ~500 word drabble/ headcannon is £7

After that the minimum is 1000 words for £10, going up by £1 per 100 words (Eg 1100 words is £11, 1200 words is £12, 1300 words is £13 etc)

+£0.20 per 100 words of the fic if you want it to be NSFW (e.g. if you pay for a 1000 word fic and want it to be NSFW, then your total will come to £12, if you want a 2000 word fic with NSFW then the total is £24 and say you want a random number like 1800 with NSFW then your total would be £21.60, a 500 word NSFW drabble would also be £8)

+10% of the whole price added on as a service fee for fics that require editing and/ or research

+£0.10 per 100 words of the whole fic if you want me to stream the process on Twitch (NO NSFW ALLOWED FOR THIS OPTION) (e.g. if you want a £1000 word fic your total would come to £11)

"Ma'am, that's not the problem," the docking personnel responded, "I'm saying due to the unrest, you have to go back to the surface."

"Understood," she snapped the holo off. "Mhi, tell the others to strap in, and get to your post."

"Essow, really?" the Mon Calamari's face fell.

"Yeah, really!" the human buckled in, "They're Force-hunters, I don't care if the Commonwealth is still standing at the end of the day, these GUF bastards are coming to get us and I'll fly through hell before I let them walk up and take me!"

Mhi jogged through the corridors down to the common area. The Jedi was speaking to the Mirialan girl, who just stared in shock. Considering their story, Mhi didn't blame her. Force-users never lacked for unimaginable excitement, and if they really had beaten down the GUF at a zoo, well, that'd be one for the HoloNet.

"Sorry to interrupt, but we're gonna be um, flying fast," she explained, "You can stay here or in your bunks, but in either case, please buckle in."

"Essow's classic diplomacy," the Kaminoan smirked.

"Yeah, her's and mine, unfortunately," Mhi grumbled, "If you see droids rolling around, don't worry, they're just doing their jobs."

"Wait, are we breaking out of port?" the purple girl paled.

"Oh sweetie, keep your plausible deniability intact!" Mhi said as she jogged away.

She climbed down into the quad lasers, an add on that become iconic when a certain YT 1300 somehow survived everything that was thrown at it. That model had become a notorious high demand item, though no one managed the same kind of fame since.

Essow Brak made her fortunes on a 2400 that she'd hired Mhi Sombelwabb to refurbish. On a good day, .5 past lightspeed, just like that damn 1300. The Onomiri lurched up, and Mhi dropped the quad lasers down, firing wildly until Essow had gotten out of the hangar. The scale and speed made trying to hit the point-defense systems inside pointless, but once they saw atmosphere, things got easier.

Her ship was fast, but it was still freighter shaped and heavy.

"Essow, what are the chances we have a chace as opposed to a blockade?" she yelled up.

"Not good, eyes ahead, Mhi!"

They may have had a Jedi onboard, but the most miraculous uses of the Force Mhi had ever seen was watching Essow Brak pilot, and watching her work with this finely tuned relic was magic all its own. Making it agile enough to meet her capabilities was the true challenge of her job, but it was worth it. She just also needed a gunner.

It was still a minute or so until they'd hit a wall of ships, but Mhi watched anxiously.

"Please don't trash my ship, Essow!"

All she heard in response was a laugh.

They were going on an attack run of a corvette. Always the suicide angle. Mhi knew where to fire to cause concern for their shields, getting through the larger vessel's deflectors just enough to add carbon scoring and potentially confusing their crew.

Their shields were solid, only taking real hits from the larger vessels, while the starfighters danced around them helplessly. It's when the droid repair team took action that she opened the comm to the cockpit.

"Essow, it's time!" Mhi panicked.

"Oh come on, we've got another couple runs left!" Essow laughed, snap-rolling the Onomiri Pathfinder out of harm's way.

"You'd better be right!"

They did another attack run, but a solid barrage rocked the ship, causing eveything to blink out for a moment.

"BRAK!" Mhi shouted as they continued their forward momentum.

"On it!"

Essow peeled off, and before the hyperspace engines could respond, they were at the edge of the system. Mhi breathed a sigh of relief and climbed out of the gunner’s seat. “What did you do?” the mirialan girl looked liked she might have been ill.

“Just the job,” Mhi offered.

“We moved through hyperspace without engines,” the kaminoan looked intrigued, “I knew your pilot used the Force, but this is new to me.”

“To them, it looks like we just shot off without astrogate calculations,” Mhi explained, not trying to stop them from following, “Which is helpful because now, our actual hyperspace route will be a very complicated question.”

“I wasn’t talking about the Force,” the girl sounded upset, “I mean, why did you just fire on Commonwealth ships if the Commonwealth isn’t actually going under?”

“Oh, it is, kid,” Essow stood to meet them rushing the cockpit, “Give it a few months. If your local law enforcement isn’t quelling an insurrection, it means they tacitly improve, We’re looking at another Empire and it won’t help if we’re just sitting here.”

“You don’t know that,” the girl said, “Things might just go back to normal.”

“Ayoma, I’m gonna say two things to you,” the middle-aged human help up two digits, “Thing the first; it’s always satisfying to show off. And secondly, possibly the most obnoxious thing anyone’s ever said to me, ‘search your feelings’.”

She placed her hand on Ayoma’s shoulder to punctuate her second point. Ayoma’s face did that thing that near-human faces do when they get overly stressed, making Mhi reach for the astrogation pad. Of course Essow hadn’t started yet. “Where were we headed?” she asked the others.

“Ord Pardron,” Ilah replied.

“Uhhhhhhhh, do you know the way?”

“Take the Corellian Run down to Savareen, we’ll be taking the Triellus Trade Route up a ways, and hopefully someone out there can be a little more specific,” the Jedi explained, “There’s an old Rebel ‘safe world’ out there, which, if it’s not openly anti United Front, will hopefully be neutral enough to convalesce at.”

“Well as long as someone knows where we can go after this, I’m fine,” Essow turned back to the pilot’s seat, “Maybe we’ll get some smuggling work in the Outer Rim.”

“Just keep us flying, Brak,” Mhi feigned annoyance.

Steve and I didn't end up going to sleep until midnight last night which is the latest we've ever gone to bed. He was engrossed in his golf game and I was flicking through photos of our trip so far. It reminds us that we've done so much since we got here and I like looking back on good memories. We woke up around 0930 and I was still really tired. It's the first time I've felt like I could go back to sleep for a few more hours. Usually we're up and awake straight away. I got up and done the washing up that needed doing. Steve had some yoghurt for breakfast and I had muesli with mine. Tom and Betty asked whether people were up for going to Mission Beach so Steve and I said we'd go. I didn't really want to go, I wanted to lay and rest by the pool (but not go near it this time). Steve said we'd enjoy it so we put our names down. Eventually, 13 people said they wanted to go, including us. You can only fit 12 people in the vans so Danny said we could take his car. Everyone was drinking so they needed two designated drives that were happy to miss out. Harriet always drives because she's vegan. She finds it difficult to find vegan alcohol so she's happy not to drink. She's 19 from Germany and one of the most genuinely loveliest people I've ever met. She is extremely healthy and doesn't put anything that is ‘man made’ into her body. My heart was playing up so there was no point me drinking and being in the sun. I said I'd drive too. I went and sat by the pool around 1100 because it takes forever to actually get going with everyone ready. I started to read my book and after about 20 minutes, Steve text to say people were ready. We had to pay $8 each for the van which isn't too bad considering Mission Beach is about an hour away. We all got our cool bags ready and sat in the van. The guys did the driving there and we would drive back. We left around midday and got there around 1300. The sun was beaming which was great. We parked up and walked 5 minutes to the world famous Mission Beach. Mission Beach is mainly known for Sky Diving. It would be my absolute dream to skydive there but I believe I'm too big to actually do it. Never mind my Dad would suffer another heart attack if he knew I was jumping out of a plane at 14,000ft. We sat on the beach and watched them all jump and their parachutes come open. It looked great fun. They landed right next to us. We all laid our towels out, got the music playing and cracked open the beers. Water, for me though. We all laid there for a bit and I went for a walk to paddle my feet into the sea. Our hostel group did their skydive 2 weeks ago, as they jumped out, they could see a shark fairly close to the shore. The size of the shark compared to the people was unreal. The instructors had to run to the sea and tell people to get out. There's no lifeguards or warning signs anywhere. I was wary of sharks so I didn't go in too far. Steve decided to follow me just in case. We had a water fight which was nice because the water was so warm. It was like bath water. We only stayed in for about 10 minutes before walking back to the group. Everyone decided on a game of beach football rather than rounders. I was spectator, obviously. Cat decided against it too so we sat and watched, laughing away. The game went on for about half an hour, mixed girls and boys teams. It was good to watch and they had a great time. Steve scored the winning goal (although, I didn't actually believe it went in the goal, I'm sure it went over the flipflop post). Go Steve! We sunbathed more and chatted away. When Steve and I arrived, I saw a German girl that I recognised for some strange reason. I told Steve straight away and said that she looks identical to the girl we met in Mad Monkey when we first arrived. She was best mates with Maddy who gave us advice on Melbourne. I eventually said to Sara that that's who I thought she was, and she was! How odd. Australia is so big but you end up bumping into the same backpackers. It's great, if you think about it. Maddy wasn't there, she had to go home. Sara was amazed that we recognised her but she didn't recognise us. She was with us at Mardi Gras and all sorts. I knew it, I wish I said something the second I saw her. The boys started to get really hungry so a fair few of us went to one of the restaurants close by for a bite to eat. We ended up at a Mexican restaurant and Steve and I shared a dish. It was lovely to be fair but it took about an hour out of the day. It was nice to be out of the sun though. By the time we got back to the rest of the group, they were smashed. Jack had managed to go through 12 beers. It was great to watch. We all sat in a circle on the beach, singing songs and laughing away as the sun set. Danny wanted to see the sunset over the beach so we stayed until 1800ish. We ended up spending the next hour trying to do pyramids and Brazilian pyramids. It was so funny and we got some good photos out of it. The boys nearly managed a full Brazilian pyramid which is the same as your standard on the knees on, but you're on your feet standing on each other. The photo I got was wicked. We started getting chilly and decided to head back. I drove first in the car with Steve, Danny and Jack. To be fair, the car was great. It's your standard ugly old Toyota but Danny paid $1500 for it and he's had no problems yet. He got it before Christmas so it's definitely served him well. We were 'racing against time' to get back to the Bottle shop before it shut at 1900. It was 1940 when we still had about 30km to go. The boys reckoned we'd get back in time, but I didn't. Not that it mattered, the one further down stays open later. Steve was right though, I did have a great day. I’m glad we went. We pulled up and the cashier was just about to cash up but he said if we're quick, he'd serve us. Jack got another 12 pack, as did Danny. Steve and I got 2 bottles each of Little Fat Lamb. We pulled up at the Kookaburra before the others and went to get showered. We were all getting drunk later in the entertainment room as 1) it's all we ever do every weekend, 2) the majority of the hostel were leaving in the next few days. I think 12 are leaving before next Saturday. I'm excited because I'm hoping to make our own group of friends rather than just tagging along. We got showered and ready. Steve was ready first so he left and I joined them after 10 minutes. There were only about 12 people there already which is pretty quiet. Eventually, after about half an hour or so, it tripled. Steve was waiting to put the football on the TV. Fingers crossed Liverpool win otherwise we'll be going to bed early with the hump! We mingled around, drinking, chatting and laughing. I played a few drinking games with the girls which was funny. The other hostel turned up which isn't really allowed but they come anyway. We have the better hostel it's just that there's is cheaper. They have dorms though. I'm in love with our room here. I wouldn't move. Eventually, Liverpool were losing 4-0... Steve suggested going to bed as he was finished watching. Just as I presumed! I was done drinking and absolutely knackered from the day so we went to bed. I was snoring before Steve had even got ready for bed, apparently.

If you are a car mechanic, or a business coach, do what you know best, is what you set up in business for, to do what you know and do best; leaving the marketing work to a professional. After all, would you service or repair your gas heating system? Unless of course, you are a certified gas fitter; would you repair or replace the brakes on your car? Similarly, if you can concentrate on the running of your business, that brings in the basis of your business, then concentrate on that; outsource to a professional, whether its the brakes on your car, the gas servicing of your boiler, or the digital marketing of your business.

SEO CASE STUDY:

A new client we took on 6 months ago, was doing their own search engine optimisation, they thought they had the knowledge, time and inclination to do it themselves. However, after 18 months of doing it in-house, they were not achieving the results expected. They were not getting any leads from their website, no enquiries and were getting despondent.

We were approached by the client and with a limited budget, we provided a report based on the site. We found that the site was not optimised at all, was not using the keywords relevant to the business – and actually being used by people to search for their services. Why rank for keywords that nobody actually uses in Google? It might well be good to be ranked No.1 in Google but if nobody actually uses those keywords, how are you going to be found by people actively searching for your services? For instance, for an Accountants company in Brighton, The keyword “Accountants in East Sussex” is on average, used 50 times per month, however, “Accountants Brighton” is used 320 times per month, by people searching in Google for these services.

We also looked at the amount of visitors that the company attracted to their website, we found that they only had approximately 1300 visitors per month, and the majority of these were bad referral traffic. This also resulted in a high bounce rate – 86% – so visitors were finding the site but not the content they expected.

Their social media was not being used effectively and they had low amount of content on their website, which limited their use to drive visitors to the site from social media.

Whilst the budget did not allow us to provide a new website, we set to work and conducted keyword research. We made some small design changes to the site, installed contact forms, and set up goals in Google Analytics. We used our keyword research to fully optimise the website, added better quality and quantity of content and started a full social media service.

Within 4 months we started to see great results, the visitor numbers initially were reduced as we blocked bad referral sites, and started to target UK based visitors. The bounce rate dropped significantly to 60% and is reducing each month, by providing the content people expect, so they stay longer on the site. The enquiries and leads generated from the site have increased from ZERO to upon average of 8 per month. This are REAL leads, generating enquiries that have so far lead to on average 3 full sales, 3 new clients for the last three months.

Social media is still growing, with more LIKES and followers across all platforms and as the site now has great content in the form of blogs and actual informative content on the pages, social media is helping to drive visitors to the site.

RESULTS:

More qualified visitors to the site, those actively looking for an accountant. New clients, higher rankings and a satisfied customer who is focusing on what they do best and outsourcing the SOE to a professional agency.

Social media is a time consuming service, and posting just any old content might do you more harm than good. Not posting often enough and at the wrong times of day can only waste your time, not produce results and then cause you to be despondent and give up.

CASE STUDY:

I have a new client who was doing her own social media – only Facebook though, as she did not like Twitter or Google+. I looked at her Facebook account and was pleasantly surprised at the amount of LIKES she had, 1257 – all earned, not purchased. However, there was very little, almost ZERO interactions between her friends. Also she was not promoting her own website or services but instead actively promoting her competitors.

We took over her social media promoting and by working with the client, added more content to her website in the form of informative content on individual pages – which will result in better SEO rankings, and blogs. In fact, her website had very limited content, not fully promoting all of her services.

We have increased the LIKES on Facebook, started to build organically the followers on her Twitter account and Google+ too.

RESULTS:

This has increased referral traffic of people actively looking for her services and resulted in an increase of leads and sales. She is a small niche tour operator but since we helped her, has received 3 direct bookings for her tours, and it not paying 10% to referral sites.

CONCLUSION on whether to outsource SEO or do it in-house:

If you have the knowledge, inclination and the TIME to do SEO and social media – go ahead and do it; as long as it does not interfere with what you do best – running your business.

Come and See A New Place

Warning: Unusually extremely long post ahead. (It is V-E-R-Y long, I’m sorry)

Just returned from retreat. If I could shorten what I got out of the retreat, it would be these three words: joy, clarity, and peace.

My last post didn’t mention any unusual or surprising occurrences so I will mention those now.

At one of the churches I attended Simbang Gabi at (let’s call it “St. Tremorus”), my mom and I met two sisters. We had seen them at the church during Mass but assumed they were only visiting since there were only two of them. We were about to leave the reception when they began talking to us. Sister Therese (turned out she was the local superior!) began talking to my mom and Sister Krista (the Vocation Director – what a surprise) began talking to me. It was almost like they planned it (I think they strategized). Towards the end of our conversation, they invited me to their Come and See retreat (the one I just got back from). Since I was open, I immediately said “Yes.” And then I checked if I was available (I was). Pro tip: Check your availability before saying “Yes” to an invitation.

I rarely say this but the retreat was a life-changing experience. It was like Divine Intervention. (I would have never heard about this retreat if my mom and I didn’t choose food at the parish hall over heading home to rest. I would have never attended St. Tremorus had I not been involved with a local parish choir. I would have never been involved with a local parish choir had I not transferred schools.) I think this community is the one I had been searching for for so many years. They had a good balance between prayer and work and seem to radiate God’s love effortlessly. They all have generous hearts. Got good vibes from all of them (except for one but it turned out to be something small which is fine).

I was nervous when I arrived. I didn’t know if I would fit in with the other retreatants or if the clothes I packed followed their rules of modesty. I didn’t know if I would feel accepted. Mom and dad accompanied me. Sister Krista opened the door and welcomed us in as did Sister Ka, who was cooking dinner. I could either join the sisters in the chapel for prayer or help Sister Ka cook. Since she was by herself, I opted to help Sister Ka. Folks left shortly after that.

Dinner was some kind of soup that tasted like sinigang. Delicious, though. I didn’t eat much as I was more tired than hungry. Met my roomie, Ann, her sister, Elizabeth, and their friend, Megan. All three were from Pennsylvania. The rest of us trickled in from other parts of California – Sara, Sammy, Princess, Mimi, Abigail, Christy, Dara, and finally Kenny (who arrived a day later). There were 12 of us, like the 12 apostles.

Each day had a schedule that went something like the following:

0600 Rise 0630 Morning Prayer (or Mass) 0700 Icebreaker and Talk (or Morning Prayer) 0800 Mass (or Icebreaker and Talk) 0900 Private Prayer 1200 Lunch 1300 Free Time 1400 Spiritual Direction 1600 Evening Prayer 1700 Talk 1800 Dinner 1900 Recreation 2000 Talk 2200 Lights out and silence until after Mass

Day 1: The Search

Sister Lin led the talk. A few takeaways: • Ask God (or ask God what to ask for) • Be aware (of what God may be trying to tell you) • Answer (respond to God’s call) • Reflect on past experiences • Life is like a tandem bike (God in the front seat)

We also learned how to pray the Divine Office (thanks, Sister Anastasia). Nothing that new with regards to the history or its use in the Church.

After lunch, we had free time. Since Ann and I had already seen the guitar in the room we were staying in and the pianos throughout the house, we were itching to touch some music. I asked Sister Krista if we could use the piano and she said “yes” so we did. Christy began playing the piano – A Whole New World. It was fun, we all sang along, just the three of us. Eventually, I got to the piano and we just began jamming out to praise and worship. Ann has a good voice. About 30 minutes passed when the door opened and we all frantically stood up as we thought we were getting kicked out or were too noisy. Turned out that Sister Lin and Sister Rose just wanted to join us! Finished our free time just singing praise and worship.

Ann went first for Spiritual Direction so I had time to shower and pray. I was a little nervous and relaxed at the same time when it came time for my Spiritual Direction but it went very well. Wrote in more detail in my paper blog. Homework from Sister Ka is to “pray and discern.”

Day 2: The Call

Sister Anastasia gave a talk on the 4 different types of vocation (maybe I’ll do a separate post on this in the future). Didn’t really learn anything as I already knew most of this (I did my own research on this topic a long time ago haha). Heard about this awesome saint – St. Giuseppe Moscati. In another life I would be him.

Ate lunch with Sister Ka and Sister Lin (and one other sister but my memory is failing me at the moment). I finally got to talk to Sister Lin. I had seen her at other tables and wherever she was everyone was laughing. She was really chill, hilarious. Found out her brother joined the Divine Word Missionaries! Forgot to get his name though.

Had another jam session after lunch but this time the room was filled. Sara and Abigail played the piano as well. Favorite song during that session was Set A Fire (Abigail on piano, Ann on vocals, me on harmony).

Spiritual Direction was quite fruitful this time. Sister Ka used the analogy of a plant: We are all plants. The soil is our vocation. The flowers and fruits are how we impact others’ lives. However, we can’t produce flowers and fruits unless we are in the right soil. So, we need to ask God and let God find the right soil for us. Homework from Sister Ka is to “write down your fears.”

At around 1600 we had a talk by both Sister Krista and Sister Anastasia about the stages in formation: aspirancy (not all religious have this stage), postulancy, novitiate, temporary vows, perpetual vows. This talk definitely cleared some fears that I had written down.

We had night prayers and then reconciliation (we didn’t know we would have this opportunity) during Taize. By this time I kinda got the hang of Divine Office. It’s not too bad. Since I had gone to confession only about a week ago, I had almost nothing to confess (for me it was confession --> Mass --> retreat; few opportunities to sin). Penance was to “pray 5 Hail Mary’s in Thanksgiving for the blessings you have received.” Taize was beautiful. It was led by Sister Lin and Sister Mary. After we all went to confession (or at least most of us), we pinned our sins (that we had written down on flash paper) onto a styrofoam heart wrapped in foil (which symbolizes Jesus’ heart – every time we sin we pierce His heart). We lit the flash paper but the flash paper didn’t do what it should have done – it looked more like our sins left permanent burnt marks on Jesus’ heart. The sisters rolled with it though and reassured us that that’s not how it actually is. Haha

Dinner was interesting. The day before, someone brought up the Norbertines, to which Princess responded with “Oh I love the Norbertines! They’re so holy–” and we all nodded. But she wasn’t finished with her thought “–and handsome!” to which we all cracked up. Turned out that the priest who hear our confessions was a Norbertine! We all kept on nudging Princess to go make her move and choose a seat next to him for dinner. She finally did, as did Ann and myself. Sister Krista, Sister Lin, and Sammy joined us at that table as well.

After conversing, it turned out Father Clark Kent (it came up when we forgot his name and realized he wore a cape – like Superman) and I had mutual friends in religious life: Mother and Sister Elizabeth of the Norbertine Canonesses, Sister Veronica of the Trinitarians, and Sister Maria of the Carmelites! As for his love story with God, it was almost constant. He didn’t go into detail but he did mention that he took time to seriously discern and meet with a spiritual director. Wrote in more detail in my paper blog. Princess got a picture with Father Clark. I did, too, but only to show to our mutual friends that we had met.

Post-dinner was clean up time. Had the pleasure of assisting Sister Anastasia with cleaning the chapel (of the different options for cleaning the place, I really wanted to clean the chapel since that’s where Jesus is). Watered (more like “iced”) the poinsettias and wiped (not mopped because we didn’t use any liquid) the floors.

Day 3: The Response

This time, Mass was at 0800. Same wake up time but slightly different schedule. Learned how to pray with objects (thanks, Sister Anastasia). My object was a cabbage cutter / peeler.

There are three parts to praying with objects: 1. Sit with the object for some time. What would the object say to you? 2. Sit with the object again for some more time. What would Jesus say to you about the object? 3. What is the overall message from praying with that object?

For me, it went something like this: 1. We are very similar. We are made in a unique way. We both were made for a specific purpose. 2. You have all you need to fulfill your purpose. However, the cabbage cutter / peeler cannot cut cabbages or peel food unless someone is holding it by its handle. Similarly, you have to let Me hold you and let Me use you to fulfill your purpose and touch lives. 3. In two words, trust God.

During breakfast, we found out that we would be on silent retreat at their prayer house (30 minutes away) and would return after dinnertime. We departed at 0915. Ann, Sara, Sammy, and I rode with Sister Lin. I got shotgun (Sister Lin didn’t want me throwing up in the backseat). Prayed the Rosary on the way then talked about confirmation saints in British accents and Piglatin (we reverted to plain American English after trying a few sentences). Sister Lin’s was Mama Mary and Ann’s was St. Catherine of Alexandria. Sara was much too young and Sammy was still undecided.

Once we arrived we had a mini tour of the outside area. Cute location. Sister Lin led some icebreaker games (my brain wasn’t awake yet so I didn’t do so well) before we went inside for Sister Ka’s talk on discernment. After everyone was finally gathered (I had to round up some people who were missing) and in the room upstairs (Sister Ka was saying we were like Jesus and the Twelve gathered in the Upper Room), Sister Ka began, “From this moment on, you cannot speak.”

A few takeaways from Sister Ka’s talk: • Discernment ≠ Decision-making: — Discernment: what God wants, involves prayer and reflection — Decision-making: what I want, is black and white • Discernment is a habit: (B.U.T.) — Be aware: of the experience, movements of the soul, etc.; openness, let go and let God — Understand: the experience; continual reflection (how movements of the soul affect me) — Take action: responding in freedom • 7 Attitudes Required to Discern: 1. Openness 2. Generosity 3. Courage 4. Interior Freedom 5. Prayer and Reflection 6. Have priorities straight 7. Not confusing end with means • Questions for thought: Say someone wrote you a love letter and you responded to it 10 years later. How do you think that person feels with your much-delayed response? Each vocation is a love letter from God. How do you think He would feel if you delay responding to Him?

I might have a separate post on her talk. There was so much content.

Sister Ka’s talk was very insightful and offered a lot of clarity. Of all the talks we have had thus far, I benefitted most from her talk. I think it was during this talk that clarity in my call to religious life rose from 60% to 80%. Sister Nga had us each write down our B.U.T. It was during this that I found rebuttals to all the fears that I had written down. My fears were gone.

After this talk we had personal prayer time and lunch. Lunch was lasagna. For some reason I was really hungry. Had two full plates for lunch. I was surprised at my appetite. I think Sister Krista was surprised as well. It was as if all that discernment suddenly made me physically hungry.

Per usual, we had Spiritual Direction. Ann went first. While waiting for my turn, I prayed and wrote in my paper blog. I got nothing. I think God was telling me “You already know what to do. What else is there for me to tell you?” I told Sister Ka this during my session with her (I’ll need to make a separate post strictly on my discernment during this retreat). She gave me pointers and told me to prepare for “turbulence from the evil spirit.” Homework from Sister Ka is to follow everything I had written down for my Take Action.

We had one last Adoration/Holy Hour and Divine Office with the sisters at the prayer house. The sisters had decorated the altar with a fishnet (not the pantyhose) and added paper fish and green paper boats on it around the nativity scene. We prayed Divine Office (thank you to Sister Joan for instructions). After this, Sister Krista guided us in meditation. We wrote down our fears on the boat then offered that up to God and got a paper fish. Each paper fish had a quote from Scripture. Mine was from Romans 12:12

Rejoice in hope, endure in affliction, persevere in prayer.

Considering my journey in discernment thus far, this Bible verse was very applicable to me.

Then came dinner. Dinner was another dish from their culture and, just like the previous dishes, it was delicious. Since we were so many, we had to set up another table. I put my food down at the other table and helped set it up. However, when I went to retrieve my plate, it had disappeared! I placed it right between Elizabeth and Dara. I didn’t want to get another plate since it would simply be a waste if I found my original plate. Sister Anastasia found out about it and helped me look for it. The whole time Dara and Maria were very quiet and played dumb. After spending about 5 minutes looking for my plate, Dara came up with my plate. Apparently, she had placed it on the chair right next to her and Sister Anastasia! I was finally able to eat. At our table sat Sister Joan, Sister Lin, Christy, Ann, Sister Krista, Sister Mary, Sister Nga, and Princess (and perhaps one more retreatant? my memory is failing me). We had the majority of the sisters so it was fun.

We left the prayer house post-dinner and headed back to the convent for a movie. Sister Lin hoped that we could do a little bit of praise and worship before the movie so Ann and I hit the showers as soon as we arrived. We were the first out. We went to our room to finish. It was during this time that I told her my intentions in terms of religious life. I couldn’t hold it in anymore. I needed to tell someone other than my spiritual director. We broke the house rule of not conversing in the rooms. In doing so, we were delayed in coming down and missed our last chance to have a praise and worship session with Sister Lin. I regret telling Ann at that moment. I believe I could have held it in for a few more hours.

The movie we watched was The 4th Wise Man starring Martin Sheen (dad of Charlie Sheen who was a huge fan of Fulton Sheen, hence the change of his last name to “Sheen”). It was a good movie. We could all see ourselves in each of the characters. (Side note: If you are reading this, you should watch it. I may do another post on this movie.) Sister Krista and Sister Anastasia joined us for the movie. It was like they were babysitting children who were feasting on junk food haha.

After the movie Sister Krista bid us farewell (Sister Anastasia had already left) and said that we could hang out in the common room until 2200 but we asked her to stay. We were comfortable with her, especially since she had already seen all of our flaws and weird quirks and was comfortable with her own quirks. It became our mini sharing time. I think it was during this time that we all truly bonded. We went through several topics ranging from Princess’ attraction to Norbertine priests to how much we were going to miss each other. I rarely say this and feel this way but I truly enjoyed being in a room filled with women (rather these women) this time. Normally women maarte-ness (sorry, it’s Tagalog and I have no idea what it is in English) is too much for me but they were fine and weren’t maarte at all.

I brought up possibly doing the Camino de Santiago someday and a few of them said they would like to join me. Princess and Ann seem like they really want to do it with me. Problem is scheduling and flights. Princess isn’t that far from me so that won’t be a problem but she doesn’t regularly work out so she may not be fit to join. Ann lives far away and is basically in grad school so the timing may never work out. If God wills it, it will happen. (I say this but I honestly really hope doing the Camino de Santiago is something God wants me to do, too)

We finally hit the sack at 2300 and that was the end of our last full day of retreat.

Day 4: The Offering

Morning was pretty much the same despite the few differences. We were allowed to sleep in an extra 30 minutes. However, Sister Marlene accidentally rang the bell at 0600 so we didn’t really sleep in (it’s fine though as we had already awaken on our own before the bell was rung). Sister Anastasia rang the bell again at 0630.

Another retreatant sat where I usually sit for Divine Office so I was a little disoriented. If Divine Office was an exam and not a prayer, I failed miserably. Btw, that thing psychologists tell you about sitting in one spot of the classroom and taking an exam at the same spot helps you remember things more is very true (exam tip!).

After Divine Office, we had one last talk. This time, it was by Sister Krista and it was on our offering to God. She related our offering to God to the process of gift-giving (it is a process, afterall). A few points: • When you give someone a gift, you try to figure out what they like and/or what kind of things they appreciate. The kind of gift you give is based on that person’s likes and dislikes. Same goes with God: what you offer Him is something He would truly appreciate. — Would you offer Him money? He doesn’t need that. He can have all the money in the world. Heck, He can make money grow on trees (He is the Creator) — Would you offer Him your favorite food? He doesn’t need that. — Offer Him your life and become an extension of His hands and feet to help Him touch others. • Cup of Tea example: A tea bag has no use until it is placed in water. But not just water at any temperature (cold would work but it would take a while). Hot water. When a tea bag is placed in hot water, what happens? The hot water mixes with the contents of the tea bag and makes tea. The tea bag doesn’t make tea on its own. The hot water makes tea. Similarly, sometimes we need to be put in “hot water” before we can produce something beautiful.

Breakfast was leftovers which was great since I enjoyed all the food that was previously served the past few days. Also great because it shows that they actually care about not wasting food. They try not to waste anything – quick story: Sister Lin (or Sister Anastasia?) offered me a napkin. I refused and said “I don’t want to waste it as I might not need it.” So that sister ripped hers in half and said “Yeah, we typically split ours with each other so that we won’t waste napkins.”

Post-breakfast was our Emmaus walk – choose a buddy and walk and talk about your journey with Jesus. As you probably expected, Ann was my buddy. I wish I could share the things we talked about but those are confidential. I will say this though: we both grew spiritually. The retreat was fruitful for both of us. We are grateful. We finished in time to attend Mass (walking in with Sister Marlene and Sister Ono 2 minutes before Mass began).

We walked into our section (2nd or 3rd row of the right middle section facing the altar). I sat next to Abigail (who apparently was hoping I would be able to sit next to her? nothing against it but I don’t think I’m that exciting haha). After we got situated, I looked around and guess who I saw in the first row? Sister Felicia! During one of the previous meals at the convent, I brought up Sister Felicia and her love story with Jesus as it was similar to someone else’s love story. To see her at St. Tremorus was the most surprising thing. Before Mass began, the cantor suggested we stand and greet one another. In the process, I made I contact with Sister Felicia, who looked like she was trying to figure out if I truly was Mila. For a second, it seemed like she was confident it was me and I saw a glimmer of surprise in her face but it quickly faded. I knew straightaway who she was (especially since I had just told someone about her) so I smiled. She still had the grouchy disposition she has always had, though. Oh well.

Sister Ka was right in warning me about turbulence. I found it very difficult to stay focused during Mass. There was a family with small (and very active) children directly in front of me so it was easy for me to get distracted. I survived, though.

Lunch was a little sad as it was our very last meal where we would all be together.

Sometime after lunch, we had our time for sharing. We each went around saying a few words (or a lot of words) about our experience during the retreat. Some had fallen away from the faith but the retreat renewed their faith. Others found out they were called to religious life. Still others found they were not called to religious life. It was a different experience for everyone. Although it was not my intention (I was just so focused on listening), I went last. I had my words formulated at the beginning of the gathering but I had forgotten them by the end. I had a few words: joy, clarity, and peace.

After our sharing, the sisters instructed us to come closer together and leave some room behind us enough for someone to pass by. We did but as soon as we got together, we realized that the sisters were going to give us blessings. Sister Krista said “So now, we would like to give you a gift. A gift of prayer. We will give you each a blessing like this *puts hands on someone’s shoulders* and will whisper to you things that we noticed about you and words God would like to say to you.” We all scooted closer together and passed around the box of tissues. We already knew that we might cry. We closed our eyes and waited.

It took some time before someone came to me as I was the furthest from the sides of the room. For each person that prayed over me, I knew who it was as soon as their hands touched my shoulders: Sister Ono, Mother Superior, Sister Ka, Sister Krista, and Sister Anastasia. Not all the sisters were available (some had left the previous night to lead a retreat and others had to prepare the next meal). I didn’t cry during the laying of hands but I did right after. They had prepared some gifts for each of us: baby Jesus (Sister Krista said “the greatest gift of all!”), a card saying that they had included us in their Christmas novena (I’m so glad they did), and a glass jar of succulents from the garden (again, we’re all plants in God’s garden).

By this time, my parents had arrived (I found out they had been welcomed to the Coventry by Mother Superior). It was 1630 on the dot. We all hugged each other and shed a few tears before we let go. Princess started a group hug for me before I left. Ran upstairs to grab my things and to the chapel to grab my phone. Took a few pictures. Our faces showed that we had been crying. Got most of their numbers and we promised to keep in touch.

And that was the last day.

How Long Should a Blog Post Be? The Data-Driven Guide

I’m sure you’ve heard at least one of these figures before:

People now have attention spans of less than 8 seconds (which is apparently worse than a goldfish)

People read on average 25% of your articles.

People stay on the page within 10-20 seconds unless you offer a clear value proposition within the first 10 seconds.

These make you wonder whether shorter blog posts are better to keep your reader’s attention, right?

And with conflicting information out there about whether shorter or longer content works better, you just want to know…

How long should my blog posts be, anyway?

I’ve got you. This is the most thorough guide to ideal article length on the internet. I’ll answer that burning question once and for all, using data, proof, and examples of what performs better (and better yet, why).

How Long Do My Articles Need to be To Get Traffic?

I recently presented two sessions at SumoCon 2017 about content marketing.

In my presentation, I went over the six commandments of content that converts. One of those commandments is that content needs to be comprehensive.

The “best content on the internet”, in fact.

And everyone wanted to know how long their articles need to be. “Ballpark”. “Average”. This guide will give you that. But here’s the rub:

You can’t just read a few words, get a “ballpark” number and aim for it.

You have to know two things:

The goal of your content

Your audience.

Is your goal to crank out as many posts as possible or blog about your life as a sort of journal? The magic answer is 4.

Is your goal to get more search engine traffic, more social shares, or more emails, or more sales? Read on.

The Ideal Article Word Count for Search Engine Optimization

Tl;Dr: Aim for ~2,000 words of value to rank better on Google.

Backlinko analyzed 1,000,000 search engine results and found that on average, the results on the first page for any given keyword clocked in at around 1900 words.

In light of all those stats I mentioned above, how is it that long form articles perform better than shorter articles?

There are three theories behind this:

Long form content keeps people on the page for longer. Most SEO authorities acknowledge that “dwell time” matters to Google (and other search engines).

Long form content is more valuable content. Google wants to show the result their users want.

Long form content gets far more social shares (which I’ll show you in the next section). This is unconfirmed by Google, but there’s a strong correlation between social shares and ranking.

Not into creating long form content? You probably will be after reading the rest of this guide, but if I still can’t convince you, know that some sources say that Google doesn’t rank anything fewer than 300 words.

Word Count for Social Shares

Tl;Dr: Aim for ~2,000 words of value to get more social shares.

After analyzing 100 million articles, BuzzSumo found that articles with more than 2,000 words were shared far more than articles with fewer than 2,000 words.

This makes sense considering people share articles they view as valuable.

My most shared articles on Unsettle have on average a 2,000 word count.

On Sumo, we’re looking at over 4,000 words.

Create Long Form Content

Okay, so we know long form blog posts perform better on social media, search engines, and to sell your product.

Check.

“So what’s the magic word count?”.

I know what you’re thinking. And I can’t answer that right now.

But what I will tell you is going to help you get your content backlinks, social shares, traffic, emails, and even sales.

Ready?

Your articles need to be long enough to make the content the best on the internet on the topic.

Nobody wants to link to, share, or buy from the second best, or third best resource on the internet. You need to create linkable assets. A linkable asset is an article that … surprise! People want to link to.

“But What About the 8-Second Attention Span?”

Apparently, humans (read: your readers) have attention spans worse than a goldfish.

But think about it for a second. We have 8 second attention spans for things that aren’t interesting to us.

Anybody who has watched a movie (IT, anyone?) or even a 45 minute episode of Game of Thrones on Netflix knows that their attention spans can actually be quite long if they’re interested.

But nobody (and I mean nobody) wants to read a textbook style block of text like this.

That’s enough to shorten your attention span to a split second and make you bounce.

What you need to know about your reader’s attention spans is this: People don’t read your content, they scan it.

So if you’re engaging in long form content, you need to make it navigable.

That means:

No fat paragraphs.

Narrow content width (between 480 and 600 pixels), according to Derek Halpern.

Use images, gifs, charts, graphs, and quotes to break up the text. Eye-tracking studies show that people spend longer looking at images in content than reading the content itself.

Include a table of contents to help the reader navigate the article:

Help the reader scan your articles (because rarely will they read them).

So Wait… if People Don’t Read it, Why Should I Write Long Content?

Good question.

Here’s why:

Longer content has a higher perceived value.

If they see your articles as a high perceived value, they’re more likely to follow through on your calls to action (sign up for your email list, leave a comment, share your article). Did you know that 59% of people will share an article on social media without even reading it?

True story. They’re sharing it based on the perceived value. Even if they don’t read the article, they get a sense of the perceived value based on:

The headline

The length/depth

A quick scan of the content that proves that it’s worth sharing

Then, they’ll share it if it meets their self identity (if I share this blog post, then I look good/knowledgable in front of my friends).

So longer articles lead to more social shares, and more social shares lead to more traffic.

And what can you do with that traffic? You can grow your email list. Because even if people don’t read the content you have on the page because it’s too long, you can still collect massive emails.

You just have to get your calls to action to sign up for your email list above the average read rate (which you can find out through Content Analytics):

But… I Don’t Want to Give My Best Stuff Away for Free!

If you just had a “lifestyle blog” and didn’t care about making this blog thing a business, then you wouldn’t be reading this article.

You’re blogging for a reason. Maybe you already have a product, or maybe you want to create a product. And maybe that product will be an ebook, online program or course.

How do you know what to give away for free vs. sell in your ebook or course?

And how do you create content that’s both long form and valuable but doesn't give away all your best stuff?

Here’s the first thing:

You know you’re doing something right if somebody tells you that your article is so good it shouldn’t be free.

Have you ever read the $100 Startup by Chris Guillebeau? A lot of it can be found on his blog for free.

Just like most online courses and digital products can be found on the creators blogs, podcasts, or YouTube channels. They’re just organized in an actionable way.

You need to give people a reason to pay you. In a world where information is free, you need to prove yourself. And you do that through content.

You want people to think…

Your Blog Posts Should Be As Long as They Need to Be To Add Massive Value

Writing long articles doesn’t mean cramming all the words into your post.

Make each section pull it’s weight.

In 2015 I wrote an article called “How to Write Shit People Actually Want to Read”.

It was about 1300 words. But recently, I realized it’s not the best resource on how to write good blog articles. So I refreshed it. I added actionable strategies, examples, and data. Now it’s over 6,000 words and I’ve recieved several emails from readers who loved it.

On the flip side, we recently refreshed the WordPress plugins article I wrote in 2016 for Sumo. I shaved off over 3,000 words. Yup, you read that right.

That made it roughly 100x better.

So it’s not as simple as adding words or taking words away. It’s about making the piece stronger.

When you have a “pretty good” article: Ask yourself “how can I make this article 10x better/stronger? What do I need to include to make it the best of the best?”

When you’ve packed as much value as possible into your article: Ask yourself: how can I make this shorter while still maintaining the same amount of value?

There’s no magic number. Take at the top 10 sales-driving articles on Sumo in 2016. The word counts range from 13,100 words to just under 2,300.

Ideal Blog Post Length Depends on Your Niche & Specific Blog

I found in my study of the top most popular posts of Sumo’s top customers (we’re talking huge media publications) that the articles could be shorter:

They have social proof on their sides, and people already visited the sites to browse.

But you’re probably not the Huffington Post or Entrepreneur.com. So you can use BuzzSumo or EpicBeat to find out what the average word count is for the most shared articles with your keyword/topic.

First, log into your account (you need a Pro account for this). Then, type in a popular blog in your niche:

Export results to a CSV:

In the Num_Words column, create a formula to calculate the average:

Voila! You know the average word count of that blog.

I saw them frantically taking notes when I mentioned that Sumo’s most popular content was 6,000 words to 13,000 words.

Here’s the problem:

Just because a 13,000 word article worked for Sumo to generate massive sales, that doesn’t mean it’ll work for you.

Just because my most popular posts are 1,000-3,000 words long, that doesn’t mean it’ll work for you.

Unless you’re creating Sumo or Unsettle v.2 (please don’t), your blog is your blog.

The variation even between popular sites in the same industry (health, for example) is shocking.

Here’s why…

Reader’s expectations for each site is different. Both Sumo and Hubspot create marketing content. Yet Hubspot’s sweet spot is 1000-2000 words, whereas Sumo’s is 10,000+. What do your readers expect from you?

Different audiences have different circumstances. Under what circumstances is your target audience reading your articles? Mother.ly is so popular probably because people are reading articles on their phones while they’re waiting for their kid to finish karate or nursing their newborns. They prefer shorter, more emotional content. Physiqonomics has a science-based, research driven audience who need the most comprehensive information on the topic.

“Oh, my target audience is busy. They’re . They don’t have time to read long articles, so I’ll just create 800 word posts”.

Stop being lazy.

Here’s how to actually find your content length target:

3 Steps to Find Out Your Audience’s Word-Count Sweet Spot

Take a look at your most popular articles on Google Analytics. You can find them under Behaviour > Site Content > All Pages. Filter for the last 3-6 months:

This will usually show you what your highest traffic pages are from SEO been during the timeframe you specified.

But you also need to know what’s performed best when it comes to social shares. Pull your most popular content in BuzzSumo over the past year:

Take a look at how long and in depth the most popular content is, and now you’ve found what has worked for your audience.

Shortcut: If you have a BuzzSumo pro account, click on Content Analysis, and scroll down to find average shares by content length: You should still do the manual labor with search engine data via Google Analytics, but this reduces the time spent significantly with BuzzSumo.

If you haven’t published more than 20-30 articles, this won’t give you a good view of what works. Instead, analyze the popular blogs in your industry.

There’s No One-Size Fits All Answer to Blog Post Length

If you’re looking for a quick win, that’s the bad news. The good news?

One-size fits all rarely fits well. You don’t want an ill-fitting word-count solution any more than you want an ill-fitting suit.

I’ve just given you exactly what you need to know to figure out how long your articles need to be.

Let’s try something different..

Like, live blogging. Blogging on the spot. Right now it’s August 29, 2017, 1:08AM. I’m charging my Fitbit Blaze, drinking coffee and working.. or not. There’s no queue right now which is why I can write down my thoughts. I’m a customer service representative, and all I can say is that it totally changed the way I think about cashiers, waiters, etc. If I was nice before, I’m positively angelic towards them now, specially to those who does their work right. If not, well I give them a piece of my mind. I’ve learned that it’s not just about providing what the customer wants, but how you say it as well. I’m not saying that I’m all compassionate and understanding and peaceful whatever now, but I’ve improved. I still have my privileged Catholic school girl provinciana attitude though.

I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I actually miss brewed coffee. The coffee that Papa brews back when we still lived together. If I remember correctly, it’s a mix of Arabica and Dark Roast.. I can drink that without sweetener or anything. The coffee I brew at home tastes horrendous even with sweetener and creamers so I just stopped drinking it altogether. I now get my coffee fix from either McDonald’s when I’m in school or the coffee vendo machine here at work.

1:31AM – I logged a 30-minute break to stretch my legs and get my second cup of coffee. I use this tumbler from Starbucks which hold 473 ml.. Which means 3 servings from the coffee vendo machine. Yep, I’m that addicted to caffeine. I love how it’s all foamy like a store bought latte, but that’s what happens when you boil milk and pour it with a slow steady stream. I also took the time to play my favorite mobile game of the month, Bloons TD. I used to play this when I was a kid, when y8.com was all the rage. It’s same game, but it’s better. Even my boyfriend’s hooked!

2:30AM – Now I’m planning my to-do list for later. Here’s what’s on my list right now;

I plan to stay at the office for the rest of the week so that I can make use of the gym. I miss going to gym. I miss the times when I’m able to micro manage myself.. I really really want to bring that back.

3:25AM – I just realized that my outfit consists of a hoodie, jogging pants and well worn rubber shoes. You can either say this is a super fitness or super slob. I’ve had these jogging pants from Sassa and they are so comfortable I’d wear them everyday if I can.

3:34AM – As per my MFP logs, I have now consumed 2/3 of my allocated daily calorie intake just by coffee alone. If I could just drink black coffee, that would surely go down considerably. You know what’s funny? I think something is really wrong with me. Like, inside me. I think I have an eating disorder.. I think this started when I started college. According to my grandmother, I was never a picky eater, I was always eating but I never gained any weight. Then when I got diagnosed hyperthyroidism and was treated as with hypothyroidism, a shift in me happened and I started being super self conscious. I literally shrunk before their eyes in college and checking back I look really tiny in college. I gained weight when I started going out with my current boyfriend.. and I think I can eat with no problem at all, but when I start eating I don’t know how to stop. And when I stop I don’t know how to start again. I can’t rest either when I don’t know what’s my current weight or how many calories I currently have. I’ve looked up eating disorders but I can’t place myself in any category. I think it would be best if I see someone, but I’m scared of the stigma of going to psychiatrists here in the Philippines. Like when I had my first OB visit, it’s like the doctor was expecting me to blurt out that I’m pregnant or something and she was giving me stink eye. Then when I said I was there for UTI issues, she condescendingly asked if I was doing the deed. I’m not, but but if I was, is it wrong? You can say that I never went back to her. Currently looking for non-judgmental doctors covered by my health card.

Anyway, I want to start a fitness routine soon. Exercise, food, sleep, water.. all that. I’ll keep you posted. I’m so inspired by the blogs I’ve been reading lately which is why I want to try it out for myself. I’ll start on September 1st.

4AM – I’ve been checking out possible diets and I found the Oatmeal diet. Here’s how to do it according to diet-blog.com

Phase One

Dieters eat nothing but oatmeal for the first week.

You can eat ½ cup of oatmeal for each meal, which may be combined with a ½ cup of skim milk if desired.

Only whole oatmeal is allowed, not instant oatmeal.

Instant oatmeal and granola bars should be avoided for the first seven days.

Calorie consumption for the first seven days should be between 900-1200 calories per day.

Phase Two

For the next 30 days, dieters continue having ½ cup of oatmeal three times a day in addition to their regular diet.

Instant oatmeal is now permitted.

Calories may now be increased slightly to 1000-1300 per day.

A morning snack of a ½ cup of fruit and an afternoon snack of ½ cup raw vegetables are allowed.

This is probably the friendliest diet I can manage for now, so I’ll try it and see how it goes. I’ll also go back to the gym.

Am I looking to lose weight? Not really. More like lower my body fat percentage. I don’t like being thin and flabby. Yes, I didn’t know that was possible until I saw myself in the mirror.

6AM – So my hunch was right. There is something bad that’s going to happen. I’m basically looking at a 4-day suspension which may or may not jeopardize my schooling. I can’t deny it, there’s no way that I can say I didn’t do it to myself, because I did and the records show it. I know my fault, and I know what to do to avoid that fault.

Confusing? Let’s back track.

I made the same mistake thrice. In real life, that’s okay. There’s forgiveness, and there’s unlimited options for change and improvement. In the corporate world, not so much. Everything is put on paper and forgiveness is measured by a set period of time and hierarchy. Right now I have nine months to achieve forgiveness.

I can’t help but think.. is this God’s way of telling me that I have too much on my plate and that I’m spreading myself too thin? I mean, if this pushes through, I will get suspended, and in turn cut off my TIU privileges. Which would free up time and money for me.. Which can help me achieve two major goals that I have (being debt-free and growing my blog and Youtube channel).. But my status as a working student is what I believe to be my edge among others. It’s what makes me special.

I don’t want to lose that edge. Right now that’s what’s grounding me and making feel that I’m doing something with my life instead of just being a millenial zombie who works to survive because I thought I was strong enough to cut myself off from my parents.

So why did I let it go to waste?

I started with dropping a course and then being truant altogether. Now it will be taken away from me totally.

I don’t want that to happen. I feel like I have adjusted myself and done what I can.. but I guess it isn’t enough and I didn’t try hard enough and now I’m paying the price. I have fixed my attendance, my satisfaction, my efficiency, all the other factors. I was flying high until two days ago. I feel like I’ve shot down. I was already celebrating and praising myself and thinking of how I’ll reward myself and now this. Distraught would be a light term to describe what I’m feeling right now.

I thought I was finally reaping the benefits of positive thinking for my goal of passing my metrics.. but then it’s not? I would blog about this, but I don’t have access right now so please forgive my ramblings. I just don’t know how to proceed at this point.

Although I have my Plan B’s ready.. I would much rather go with Plan A.

Plan A consists of the Law of Attraction. I will focus on not getting a suspension. Not getting my TIU privileges taken away. Not committing any similar mistake. Instead, I will focus on being debt-free with a deadline — before my 22nd birthday. I will focus on getting 5,000 blog followers and Youtube subscribers by August 2018. I will focus on getting a Baleen pay-out every month starting August 2017. I will focus on passing all my classes and being on top of the class. I will use the power of the universe to achieve my goals. If it requires that I micro manage myself, make sure that I know where I am every minute of every day and record it, I will. If it requires that I start right at this very moment, I will.

I will start with envisioning myself a year from now. Where do I see myself by August 29, 2018?

8:45AM – My shift’s almost done, and I’m packing up. I’ve been listening to various motivational speeches and I’ll full of positivity right now. I sincerely believe that I can make my goal changes in my life. That alone is enough for me right now.
