Shout out to my main man Roy Dotrice, no one can pronounce Brienne as many ways as you can.

Thank you to everyone who recommended the DavidreadsASoIaF channel on youtube! Far, far better than the audiobooks with Roy Dotrice’s awful garbled reading making characters sound like they are a hundred years old.
Currently listening to AFfC on my morning walks and yeah, there’s a reason this is the one asoiaf book in the series that I have not reread. Nothing plot significant is happening so far. It’s so noticeable that my mind wandered and when I rejoined listening in I realized that I didn’t miss much 😂. Definitely the weakest book of the series.

the arryn line has died out so many times they always have a backup line ready to be the next arryn, these bitches are just sooooo bad at living. everyone’s always picking on the starks for getting nearly wiped out but damn ned & cat really hunkered down and repopulated the hell out of the family tree, like the starklings aren’t doing that bad, meanwhile you just like, sneeze too hard in the direction of the eyrie and the whole arryn line is on the brink of extinction, but it’s okay, they follow strict osha guidelines in the vale and they have a protocol for this very common scenario

Lord Wisdom Hallyne of the Pyromancers Guild
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
"Wildfire is but one of the dread secrets of our ancient order."
Another Alchemist, this one with his wildfire slightly more interestingly positioned to play with lighting effects. I really like how it looks on his chest, and the spooky "hold a flashlight under your chin to tell ghost stories" style shadows on his face.
I mentioned in my previous post that the pyromancers aren't the best integrated element of the asoiaf world, and I could see that when searching for a Hallyne quote - about 25 mentions in aCoK, then a handful for the burning of the hands tower outside of that. That said, the almost certain fate of the overripe fruits under Kings Landing mean the pyromancers will have at least one more blaze (sorry) of glory.

Really wanting to break into the audiobook scene sometime soon; the A Song of Ice and Fire series is my absolute favourite story and I have immense respect for Roy Dotrice. I fall asleep to the audiobooks almost every night! I'm sad that he will not be here to give us the next installment but I've been using the preview chapters for Winds to get used to ACX formatting and recording technique for audiobooks. I hope y'all enjoy as much as I enjoyed reading it!

Listening to ACoK from the ASoIaF audiobooks while getting my daily quota of exercise in and ugh, I think I dislike how Roy Dotrice does it. He makes Tyrion sound like an old man and I am finding it hard to understand Varys talking like he has marbles in his mouth. Does Dotrice really need to do these different voices?
The WOT audiobooks with Kramer and Reading is far better IMO.

I really should have looked these audiobooks up a long time ago!  🤦
If I had, I would have learned an important fact a lot earlier--all of these "nobles" act as though they know a lot more about the Others than the common folk do, when in reality, all of the folk knowledge about how to deal with such creatures should have been acknowledged and used, if not also RESPECTED, by these same "upper classes".
Instead, we got Waymar Royce being a jerk to the point of hastening his own death by his own arrogance...
