Thank you to all who signed up to our Assistance Dogs Information on Friday. There were some great questions asked and we had a wonderful time. It was insightful hearing from Yvonne of Busimann’s Dog Training about how she supports her clients during assistance dog training, the benefits of assistance dogs, and available pathways for procuring and accrediting an assistance dog. 🐕‍🦺🌈🐾🧡🐶 For those who couldn’t make it for the session, we are pleased to share that we will be re-running this information session in several months’ time. This was a lovely project for a gal in one of the Service Dog groups on Facebook. She needed help in designing a flyer for her campus with information on how to interact with a Service Dog including pictures of her dog. Turned out rather nice!

Training postponed

Hello!

   Yesterday I was so supposed to start training, but it got postponed.  I don't know what date it is yet, but I will be sure to let you all know when it is.  Can’t  wait to finally start!  This job is a very important one that will help so many people in so many situations, I can't think of anything I would rather do.

I am pleased to share that I will be presenting at @animaltherapies ‘ 2022 “National Animals Helping Humans Month” I will be discussing my journey with animals, including past and current supports, how AAT has fostered a positive Autistic identity, and the importance of Neurodiversity-affirming practices. Fellow Autistic advocate @autistic_perspectives is also presenting on her “Chickens to Love” program which I am excited to be attending.  Hello! August is fast approaching, which is when my training really gets going.  I already started on the basic sit, down, off, and come, but I will need to learn so much more for my career.  I hope you're as excited as I am for me to help people in all kinds of situations, people in nursing homes, hospitals, people with disabilities or people who just need a friend or a little inspiration.  I’m not there yet, but that is the goal of my training to be able to help all those people find joy, hope, and inspiration for tomorrow.  It’s a long road for a small puppy, but with all the good it will do, it’s well worth the walking.

Untold’s Ishani

Allow me to introduce myself.  My name is Ishani.  I am a Pembroke Welsh Corgi hailing from Washington state.  I arrived at my new home in Kentucky on July 10th to join my new family and embark on an incredible journey, a journey to become a companion/assistance animal for my family and a visiting animal for others in hospitals, nursing homes or struggling with disabilities.  Quite a career path for a little dog, but I am very excited.  As I see it, my job will not be about illness, disability or hardship, but rather learning to live life to its fullest and find joy despite all these things.   My official education starting with puppy class begins on Aug 1st.  I will have a long way to go, but I will share my journey with you and sincerely hope all of you out there walking the same road will share your stories and adventures with me.  Together we can overcome obstacles, celebrate victories and help each other and embrace life while forming friendships and connections through common experiences affirming a simple but often forgotten truth; we are not alone no matter what struggles in life we face.

Another very important part of my job will be the companionship and emotional support I will provide.  Sometimes just being there for someone, giving them someone to talk to, share time with, go on an adventure to a park with, watch a movie, read a book, simply being a part of their day is all it takes to lift them out of a dark place to find joy and hope in their rough situation.
