Headcanons for Langdon & Garcia Friendship

Frank and Yolanda first met in undergrad. She was on the pre-med track, and he was just a biology major at the time because he was playing baseball and college sports love to dictate your life

They immediately become enemies. They are competing with each other for the top grade in the class. They refuse to partner with each other on the first group project. They partner up for the second because no one else in their class is as smart or understands their humor

Yolanda introduces Abby to Frank at a party in the spring semester of freshman year. Those two hit it off, but Frank forgets to get Abby's number before heading out for the night. Yolanda listens to both of them whine separately for a week before she arranges for them to meet again because they are so pathetic

Yolanda convinces Frank to apply for the pre-med track. They are each other's designated study buddies because Frank has baseball practice and games to study around and Yolanda has her shifts at Applebees

Yolanda and Frank live together their Junior and Senior years of undergrad

They go to the same med school together

Yolanda is the best woman at Frank and Abby's wedding. Her speech was almost entirely about how Yolanda is the reason that they are together.

Yolanda is the first person whom Frank tells that Abby is pregnant and asks her to be the baby's godmother.

When covid starts showing up in ERs, Frank moves in with Yolanda to protect Abby and the baby. He continues to live with her for the first part of residency until after Abby is fully vaccinated.

After four years of undergrad and med school together, they only apply to one hospital's residency program together...PTMC

The first week Yolanda and Frank work together at PTMC resulted in their attendings having to speak to both of them about appropriate workplace behavior and insulting other doctors. Yolanda and Frank interpret that to mean that they just can't curse at each other, so they get more creative with their insults.

Yolanda counts every year of Langdon's marriage, number of children, and ages of said children as favors that Frank owes her because she deserves it

Yolanda was there every step of the way for the Langdon family through Frank's rehab. She helped with childcare, prepped meals, gave Abby breaks, and she was the first non-related person to visit Frank in rehab. She works pretty much the same schedule as him for the first two months that he's back at work.

There's also something to be said about Roxy's designs from when Fiona was designing her, to when Fazbear owned her. Roxy, when she was a puppet and when she was a cowboy, was cool and somewhat androgynous. She was a pirate, specifically the one behind the wheel of the ship, and she was the one with a shooting gallery and a shotgun.

Fazbear Entertainment clearly looked at her and said "she's not feminine enough" and gave her Sharpay's salon so she could be all about being pretty, and more in-line with the "sexy woman mechanic" stereotype, to make her more appealing to 'tomboys.' It's actually wild how plain to see this is to me.

She's the annoying "she's a tomboy, she likes racing go-karts and is aggressive, but see how she's still clearly a girl because she loves fashion and hair and make-up because all girls no matter what always love fashion, hair and make-up?" thing that companies do all the time and it's just solidified by the fact she's primarily purple. Because the standard trope is that the most feminine girl is always pink, and the tomboy girl is always purple. Every time. It's exhausting.

I love that we actually got to see what she was like before Fazbear hit her with the "not feminine enough" beam though. Roxy having been in several, not stereotypically fem roles in the past adds a lot more to her I think. It makes me wonder if her self image issues are directly caused by Fazbear twisting her character around like this. Does she remember what she was? Does this sudden requirement to be 'beautiful' being imposed so heavily on her cause her self esteem to crumble? It didn't matter before because she could always fall back on something else, but now half of her life is supposed to be centred around her appearance and there's not much she can fall back on any more.

She's supposed to be a girl that does girl things, not shoot targets and go on adventures across the seven seas. But this isn't what she was made to do or what she's always been before and these contradictions are a one way trip to an identity crisis. Racing might just be her only break from this, and now she can't even do that because she has to keep the Raceway closed to keep Mimic secure. Maybe she thought by keeping the salon closed too, it would save her from the expectations of beauty she can't ever seem to reach, but if anything, looking cool and beautiful is now probably seen as her only selling point.

There's just. So much to be said here. She deserves so much better than this.
