so ilaria vann (they/she), my darling ilaria, is my first vtm character! they're a lamia, embraced by their sire evelyn a few years ago when they were in their late 30s.

evelyn had had her eye on ilaria for a while, apparently, as she was their mother-in-law for several years prior. evelyn's adoptive son durante was actually a ghoul trying to prove himself, like your isaiah was! except he was at it for 70 years and didn't manage to not be pathetic. I mentioned in the tags that ilaria was a dom, it's exactly why the spineless idiot didn't get embraced and his mortal wife did. she's just too powerful.

them being a dom wasn't the only reason ilaria was embraced, though! they were actually working in histopathology, and were morbidly interested in the dead and dying even before gaining the hecata compulsion. evelyn thought ilaria's work would be useful for the research some of the hecata in new york were doing on the blood plague.

after the embrace and a decent length of fledgelinghood that involved some hecata family events (where she met her coterie mate holiday!), evelyn sent her to new york for the research, and that's what she does now!

her coworkers hate her and refuse to give her advice or help outside of the job. they don't like daysleeping at their own apartment, so they couchsurf within their polycule of subs, which is fine because they've been pretending to be a vampire since age 6. she can barely drive, and holiday makes fun of her for catching the bus. they have a 0 in etiquette and don't care for politics.

they have a very high intelligence, high medicine, and specialties to do with diseases. she's quite strong, which means she's great at manhandling and physically hurting people. she's creepy and intimidating, meaning people often do what she wants. they can see ghosts, and have been asked by cammy princes to help out with necromancy on at least two separate occasions. they're also very funny (:

My running theory for why it’s taking so long to get updates on the next tgcf donghua seasons is that they’re desperately trying to figure out how to adapt the fetus spirit and Black Water arcs in a not-gay way but it’s not working bc Hualian’s go-to strategy for solving their problems is just by making out repeatedly for two books straight

the dynamic of demigods thinking which other demigod is the most powerful is always amusing to me because. like, we know the big 3 kids are all the most powerful. That's just a fact of their universe. And then we know nearly every character views Percy as the strongest demigod, and most people are very rightfully intimidated by him.

and you look at the powers of the Big 3 kids and there's Percy, but then you realize Nico is just kind of objectively more powerful than him but simply chooses to hang out in Percy's shadow like he's Percy's scary dog privileges. Like, the two of them are pretty equally capable of causing multiple different apocalypses. Nico just also has like four different instakill powers and it's not like he doesn't use them. He very much uses them! Not infrequently, even! And they don't seem to take a significant amount of energy from him! And other demigods are pretty intimidated by both of them! But Nico makes a conscious point to keep his cards close to his chest and not let on exactly how dangerous and scary he can be if he wants to. People are already scared enough of him without knowing anything about him and he doesn't like that. Percy doesn't think about that nearly as much, and so usually just goes in guns blazing and that's part of why he's considered a wildcard. And then Nico himself puts Percy on a pedestal, so those who do know more about Nico's abilities then presume Nico knows something they don't about Percy that implies Percy is even stronger than him.

And even on a meta level Nico's narrative role requires him to be functionally more powerful than Percy, because he very often serves the purpose of getting Percy out of situations he can't handle on his own. That's just part of his function as a character! But also narratively he can't overshadow Percy so he just takes a backseat of his own accord and that's very amusing to me.

so i used to love jk stuff growing up but in last 15-ish years this whole franchise is a constant source of series of disappointment and bitter pain that I'm doing my best to avoid LOL 🤧 I really wanted to draw and write my OCs in a wizard world AU so.. I made my own!!!!

Did some readings the other day bc my stomach slightly felt off and had the worst pains ever in my lower back and hips for like 30 minutes and apparently i ended up giving birth to one of my twin girls very early but then again who knows spirit pregnancys are abnormal as hell. Thankfully nothing is wrong with my little goddess girl but it was a scare nonetheless. I'm so so happy she's here, Dylan been attached to the entire time like he was with Cassian 😭🖤

So, a while ago I made a post theorizing that Rez and the anti-astrals real world equivalent might be antimatter and the astrals real world equivalent would be strange matter. Since we're talking about sentient magical star people, it's kinda hard to find an EXACT real world equivalent, but that's the closest thing I could think of.

Anyways, that got me thinking. Imagine the impact that would have on the astrals relationships with the antimatter entities. When antimatter and normal or strange matter touch, they instantly annihilate each other.

Maybe that's why Cetus and Rez want destruction so much. When our universe (and I assume the TSAMS universe) formed, the big bang should have created equal amounts of matter and antimatter. If there were equal amounts, our world probably never would have formed at all. For anything to exist in the world, one would have to come out on top, and matter won. However, it's theorized (not proven) that an antimatter universe could exist and nothing would really change. If alternate universes exist, there could be worlds where everyone and everything is antimatter, where that's the normal.

All that to say, do they really have a choice? Or were they forced into evil? What else was there to do? Born into a universe that wasn't made for them, the astrals wouldn't want to interact with beings that would instantly explode them upon contact, and it's not like they could make friends with humans or planetary beings. Maybe infection is the only way. Maybe Rez thinks infection is so tantalizing not because they're evil, but because they want to be normal. They want to be loved and appreciated and they don't know how else to achieve that. That's why they serve Cetus, that's why they work against the astrals, because what else is there to do?

And maybe that's why their whole body is practically covered. Rez has on a big cloak and hood and I think gloves as well, maybe not because they're trying to be ominous, but because they have to protect themselves from interacting with matter.

And of course, I have to bring up shipping. Imagine if Rez did fall in love. With Lunar, Gemini, whoever you ship them with. What if they did fall in love and there was nothing they could do? Can you imagine? Falling in love with somebody who will only ever view you as a disgrace. Falling in love with someone so out of your league you can't even touch them. It doesn't have to be romantic either, I can imagine that they'd really look up to the astrals. Imagine wanting to be someone's friend but you can't because you will literally explode each other, that would be awful! Maybe that's why they serve Cetus so loyally, because Cetus is all they have.

It's clear that they hold Lunar in high regard from the way they creepily praise him, what if they like Lunar so much because deep down they want to be like him? They want to become an astral too. And if they can't have that, why should he? Maybe that's why they try to corrupt him.

While I was rewatching the first Zexal episodes, I noticed something interesting: aside from stuttering his name the first time they met, Yuma never referred to Astral by his name until episode 6. He only referred to Astral as “ghost”, “spirit”, or “this guy”, or simply “you” when talking directly to him. At the beginning of episode 5 Yuma is saying to Kotori and Testuo that Astral had repeatedly told him the day before to call him Astral. Furthermore, since Kotori and Tetsuo didn't have any idea that Astral had a name, shows that Yuma had never said his name while they were around.

I don't think that being called like that was a bother to Astral initially, (he wasn't even sure that Astral was his name when he crashed on Earth), but, probably, after knowing the name of the place he was from (and that he had a mission to fulfill), he started to have a more strong sense of himself and wanted Yuma (who was the only person who could see him) to call him by his name (and also wanting Yuma's friends to use his name and not calling him “ghost”).

In this scene, Yuma says Astral's name, but he is just repeating what Astral had said to him.

The first time Yuma calls Astral by name properly and directly to him is during episode 6, after Tokunosuke took control of Leviathan Dragon and Astral's condition worsened. And after that, he calls Astral's name two more times, trying to get him to answer.

Astral, instead, tries to use Yuma's name from the start... with poor results.

But in the next episode, when talking to himself, he refers to Yuma with his correct name (while Yuma calls Astral a ghost or similar even when he was talking to himself).

Astral calls Yuma with his correct name for the first time during episode 3, when he tells Yuma to duel against Mr. Ukyo because he has a Number.

It's kind of ironic that it took more than one episode to make Yuma and Astral say the other's name, seeing how the more the show progresses, the more these two end up screaming each other's name.
