I thought I would share this here while I still work on Toriel and Asgore character sheets. Let me say, thos art was out of my comfort zone so it was a good experiance to learn some new things about perspective and shading PLUS I love Avatar the Last Airbender so why wouldn't I do this?

Something that I love about Zuko’s journey is that, prior to him joining the Gaang to overthrow his father, he experiences these light-bulb moments that open his eyes to the horrors committed by the Fire Nation and erode his previous perception of the Fire Nation as this shining example for the rest of the world. One of these moments is the realization that he himself has been hurt by the Fire Nation.
In ‘The Cave of Two Lovers’, the village healer notices Zuko’s scar and affirms “the Fire Nation has hurt you.” After Zuko evades her inquiring touch, the healer lifts her pant leg to expose the burn inflicted by a Fire Nation soldier. I can’t even begin to imagine how reassuring it must have been to hear an outsider validate the fact that, despite his privileged position as heir to the throne, Zuko had been hurt by his family. It is also important to mention that, up until that point, Zuko still blames himself for his banishment.
Then, in ‘The Crossroads of Destiny’, Katara confronts Zuko and blames his horribleness on the fact that he is the Fire Lord’s son. “Spreading war and violence and hatred is in your blood,” she concludes. When Zuko retorts “You don’t know what you’re talking about”, Katara brings up the greatest loss she suffered in the war — her mother’s death at the Fire Nation’s hands.
Zuko’s response makes this one of my favourite scenes in the entire show.

Sometimes, the realization that it is your own who have hurt you the most is the hardest to come to terms with.

Day 24- Blush
Heav'n has no Rage, like Love to Hatred turn'd, Nor Hell a Fury, like a Woman scorn'd
It can be argued to the end of time and back whether or not Katara and Zuko ever actually showed romantic interest in each other during the show. Naysayers would say that Zutara shippers are desperate and grasping at straws, but yet  we can see many times in show that there were indeed writers, and not just fans, who were invested in this pairing.
Katara is not a person who forgives easily after she feels slighted and especially when she feels slighted by someone she has feelings for. This is evident in her reactions to seeing both Jet and Zuko after she trusted and opened her heart to them. Yes part of her anger at Zuko was due to how Aang got hurt by Zuko’s betrayal, but a larger part (as we later see in Southern Raiders) was down to Zuko’s betrayal after they both shared a bonding moment. The bonding moment in the crystal catacombs was something that Katara didn’t forget right away. In fact it was something that she thought about long after the encounter happened...
This is just like when we were in prison together at Ba Sing Se. He starts talking about his mother and making it seem like he's an actual human being with feelings.
Oh, everyone trusts you now! I was the first person to trust you! [Places her left hand on her heart.] Remember, back in Ba Sing Se. [Points to the ocean.] And you turned around and betrayed me, betrayed all of us!
Both the attacks on Jet and Zuko were personal and I have no doubts whatsoever that had Katara not developed feelings for Zuko she wouldn’t have been as angry. After all the opposite of love is not hate it’s apathy, and we can see by Katara’s reaction that she very much still cared.

Antarctica is Earth's southernmost and least-populated continent. Situated almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle and surrounded by the Southern Ocean, it contains the geographic South Pole, first reached in 1911 by Norwegian explorers. Antarctica is, on average, the coldest, driest, and windiest of the continents. It is mainly a polar desert, though hey do you hear me? Can you go get me a bag of chips or something to drink? I am so hungry.

even if the protestors aren't being antisemitic (they are) what the fuck kind of self-respecting "activist" says with their whole chest "people accusing you of racism and bigotry aren't being serious so you don't have to listen to them". again the double-standards applied to antisemitism cause people to abandon every one of their supposedly deeply-held beliefs

“You did well, Little Dragon” by malistaticy
Submission for The Spirit Tale of Fire Lord Ozai Art Contest.
The inspiration is from chapter 13, the scene where Zu-Ozai tugs on lil’ baby Azula’s bangs. So cute. I was trying to ape the style of the show, can’t say I totally succeeded. Had an enormous amount of fun though. Spot the turtleducks!

guys with good vibes early entry poll!
this poll is NOT part of the tournament. the purpose of this poll is to determine which character that inspired this poll will get an automatic entry into the tournament. if your character does not win, you can still make a submission for them (and any other character you think of) here! these are also examples of people who count as “guys with good vibes”

The symbolism in ATLA is unspeakably beautiful, and the scene where Zuko cuts his hair with the dagger that bears the inscription 'never give up without a fight' is just so. Zuko and Uncle Iroh effectively become fugitives after escaping Azula’s attempt to capture them on the Fire Lord’s orders. At this point, Zuko gives up all hope to restore his honor and win his father’s acceptance. This shift is punctuated by Zuko cutting his hair and, by extension, his connection to his past (at least until 'The Crossroads of Destiny'). What’s interesting is that the dagger, which marks the beginning of his growth and redemption, hails from the Earth Kingdom, the catalyst of much of Zuko’s internal change. It’s a subtle detail, but with an incredible effect.

the most (only) important post-canon arc for mai is her learning to let herself be vulnerable. learning that she does not have to spend the rest of her life suppressing both the good and the bad - she is allowed to be sad and angry, and she is also allowed to be happy and loved. mai spent her entire life perfecting an apathetic demeanor, perfecting a persona that does not care about anything. and, therefore, turning herself into someone who not only bottles up the negative emotions but also shuts out the positive ones. at boiling rock, she finally makes a move that puts her true feelings on display, and that paves the way for her to open herself back up to all of the feelings she has spent her entire life ignoring.
post-canon, mai's arc is not only about learning she's allowed to be sad, she's allowed to be angry, she's allowed to react to the trauma she went through. it is also about her learning that she is allowed to have good things. she doesn't have to punish herself for craving affection and love. she is allowed to want, and she is allowed to want whoever she wants. she does not have to hide her feelings for ty lee, does not have to suppress her attraction to women, does not have to assume that whatever marriage she is forced into will feel like a chore at best and a life of torture at worst.
mai has gone her entire life not receiving affection. even her relationship with zuko was stilted and forced, neither of them quite sure how to show that they cared for the other because they didn't care for each other in a romantic way. it was awkward and messy, and while mai might hate zuko for running, she's also grateful because she hated it too. so when, post-canon, she and ty lee end up together, it takes mai a while to understand how to accept ty lee's affection. it takes mai time to be used to someone who kisses her cheeks, her forehead, her hands spontaneously; someone who calls her lovely and starlight; someone who will hug her whenever she needs it and also whenever she wants it. it takes mai a long time to accept all of the love ty lee has for her - to realize that she doesn't have to earn every hug, she doesn't have to be on the verge of a breakdown for ty lee to kiss her forehead, she doesn't have to spend her life trying to be worthy of affection. this affection is hers to have and to keep and to cherish and ty lee is freely offering it to her, no strings attached.
mai's arc is about learning to be vulnerable, learning to be loved, and learning to be held. it is about falling asleep next to the girl she loves and not tensing up when ty lee pulls her close. it is about mai learning to open herself up and trust ty lee. it is about ty lee's arm over mai's torso, mai's back pressed to her chest, finally, finally letting herself be held. finally letting herself be loved. finally letting herself be at peace. it is about the fact that she no longer shies away from affection, no longer fighting with the voices in her mind that tell her to break free from ty lee's arms because she does not deserve this love. for mai, vulnerability is not only crying and being angry and breaking down - it is embracing the (physical) affection that her friends and girlfriend want to give her. it is falling asleep in ty lee's arms, sleeping soundly through the night, and waking up to mid-morning sunlight, all without doubting how worthy she is to call this happiness hers.
