severance poses the question of "is the ethical/moral obligation that we have towards ourselves equivalent to and on par with the ethical/moral obligation we have towards one another" which in itself is so interesting. and then it seems to have an incredibly resolute yes as an answer so far, which i find to also be so fucking sick. the innie/outie consent issues, to me, fall into such stark clarity when you consider it not as two individuals, but as two intrinsically connected individual parts of the same whole. the creation of the innie is in itself a violation of the self's integrity— because their existence is one of forced alienation. but the problem isn't actually held just in the fact that they both exist. the problem is that they cannot work together. the problem is that they are denied the wholeness.

something that has interested me for years is the ways in which mysticism within religions allows for a kind of heretical or non-orthodox thought, and particularly within the context of christianity i find a lot of that heretical mysticism stumbles into the same epiphanies and ontologies that are found within south/east/asian religions as well as among contemporary medieval mystics studying kabbalah and sufi thought. i'm particularly fond of when christian mystics would stumble into nondualist belief, and how often nondualism is positioned as deeply unorthodox when it's possible to find mystics across time and space and culture who have arrived to similar conclusions, and the degree of spiritual and almost scientific honesty expressed by them within that belief. how much of their words still ring true, even with all we know now about the universe, because of their willingness to face the unknowable and the immense and sit with it simply because they understand it is sometimes all we can do

a hero is just any person that a legendary decides to ask to solve problems for them, while a Protagonist��️ is a person that has generally been created BY a legendary Pokemon for [a] specific task[s],

usually through means of matter and/or energy manipulation,,, and/or asking the Unown/Arceus/whatever force necessary to physically "code" the person into their designated world 😳

Does the character have other characters connected to them? Do you have a family tree and "offscreen" connections made up for them or do they exist in a vacuum purely for the purpose of the story?

Noah, Gabriel, Ana-Dimitri, and Adrian all claim direct lineage from Ny'arlat/Atom/You-Know-Who. Their interactions are a tangled web of timey-wimey bullshit nonsense, which is to be expected when you're dealing with, well, eldritch bullshit nonsense.

Noah and Gabriel meet each other on the Wasteland level of the Tower; Noah and Adrian meet each other on the Normandy; Ana-Dimitri and Noah do not physically meet each other because they exist in two different iterations of the Imperium but each is aware of their "shadow" (sometimes Noah feels Anadima's heretical impulses like intrusive thoughts; sometimes Anadima feels Noah's empathetic impulses in the same way). Adrian was supposed to be Ana-Dimitri and he only knows that once he reaches apotheosis and becomes unstuck from time and learns about the Imperium whose collapse gave way to the creation of his Milky Way. There is, so far, only one Gabriel, but I'm sure at some point I will find out otherwise. He just got sidelined from Atom's funky web of trickery because he was a contingency plan that turned out not to be needed.

It is logical to think of these four as siblings, being that they all come from the same father. We don't really do typical familial bonds here, though, so they don't necessarily act like siblings. Like, Noah and Adrian fuck each other. They're not the only ones, I'm sure.

The fifth member of this Atom bomb party is Samantha Toren, who is necessarily exempt from my happily incestuous rules of engagement because she belongs to the person sending me this ask, who is the expert on what it's like to have Proper Normal Siblings. Sam and Noah meet each other in pre-War America, before it is the Wasteland; she meets Gabriel later. Her daughter, Izzy Marie, is in yet another iteration of the Imperium, and I don't know if she is aware of Anadima or Noah (or vice versa). And that's all I know so far.

I'm sure there are more Atom Bomb Babies, tbh. Ny'arlat just loves his little genetic experiments (and he also loves fucking human/humanoid women to the point of insanity, like, let's just be real here). In the interest of thoroughness, I must also point to Slaanesh, who may be of an entirely different class of entity, but also... not really, considering what Sam, Adrian, and Ana-Dimitri can do/end up becoming. She's mostly a different class of entity because of how she was created. That was a fun and inspired experiment, for sure.
