Shanks:
I don't think I completely understood the meaning of a DILF until this man showed up. He is physically amazing and I 100% believe he would respect anyone he shares a bunk with. The way he took to Luffy and became his paternal roll model is beautiful. That shows that it's not always about the amount of time you spend with the kid, but the quality of it which is important. He is not a confirmed biological dad, but he is Luffy's (as just stated) and it is a popular theory that he is the father of Makino's child. (plus Uta)
Guys, I want to have his baby--and I don't even know if I want kids.

Gigabash character overview: Thundatross
A genre often in close association with the kaiju genre is the mech genre, and indeed it’s common for a kaiju setting to have at least one titan hunting mech. Passion Republic Games felt the same when making Gigabash, and so they made Thundatross!
Thundatross is the tank of the roster, being super slow but hitting hard and most of his attacks have superarmor. He also has one move to close distance and a long range move. Skilled Thundatross players are the bane of my existence.
Design
Thundatross takes pretty heavy inspiration from mecha anime, so things like Getter Robo, Megazord, Big O and whatnot.
The primary reference is apparently Mazinger Z.
Unfortunately I can’t really find any concept art of Thundatross, just these snippets from their “behind the scenes” video.
As a personal aside, the only thing I really dislike about the design is the simple ball joints. Over six months of playing nothing but Armored Core 6 has spoiled me. But aside from that I’m a huge fan of Thundatross’s design.
Lore
Thundatross is the long term project of OtamaTEC, a megacorperation that began as a start up in 1991 by scientific genius and entrepreneur Dr. Otama Kazuo and later aided by Dr. Reiner (mentioned in Pipijuras’s overview) who eventually became second in command. The company was founded on the idea of the Gigatron Reactor I mentioned in Woolley’s overview, and their main goal is Giga Energy research and anti-kaiju defense, which resulted in many deals with the Global Titan Defense Initiative, primarily in Titan Containment Energy Barriers. The same barriers in the first level of Gorogong’s story! Despite this, a big source of the company’s income actually comes from the numerous high quality household electronics and computer parts they manufacture.
Their various findings on Giga Energy are covered in Thundatross’s profile documents, which also show that the project that created Thundatross is called the Tactical Reactor-Operated Security System.
Giga Energy can be free flowing; just hanging around in the air. But it can also come in a solid form, or at least be contained in a solid object: Giga Crystals. Giga Crystals are so densely packed with mass and energy that one that can fit in the palm of your hand can weigh up to 30 pounds and provide more energy than a full sized nuclear reactor. Giga Energy can also alter the atomic bonds and chemical structures of objects, and has very noticeable effects on organic life. A half eaten pear regrew some of its eaten parts and grew in size after a few hours of exposure to a Giga Crystal, but this seems to not be consistent as this doesn’t happen to any humans. It’s almost like Giga Energy is selective. It’s also hypothesized that the kaiju in Gigabash’s world use this process to transform into an S-class.
At some point during this time Dr. Otama Kazuo would get married to a woman named Megumi, and almost 2 decades after would have a kid: a boy named Yuuki. But by 2013 it seems like Megumi died somehow.
As Dr. Reiner helped with project T.R.O.S.S. things went along exceptionally well, and the mech outperformed initial expectations. Its system power output alone outperformed initial estimates by 543.85%, which just goes to show how powerful Giga Energy can be. However, as this project neared fruition, Kazuo began to grow worried. He was essentially creating a superweapon, and if someone were to use it for evil then the results could be disastrous. Another concern was Dr. Reiner, who was hellbent on destroying all kaiju and wanted to sell the blueprints to the GTDI even though they were too corrupt to use them responsibly.
Ultimately Kazuo installed an AI and security and identification system to the mech, and after troubling himself for years on how to find a pilot who could use Thundatross responsibly, he ultimately decided that he and any descendants should be the ones to pilot the machine, and so the mech will not start unless he or a descent is in the cockpit. He also had Yuuki name the mech Thundatross as a bit of family bonding. He really does try to be a good dad.
Dr. Otama Kazuo would never get to pilot Thundatross however. In the beginning of Thundatross’s story mode, which begins in the hell year of 2020, right after the completion of Thundatross, Rohanna would attack the Kimura district. The place of OtamaTEC HQ. Falling debris would fall onto Kazuo and paralyze him from the waist down, so Yuuki ended up taking the mantle. And for an entire year afterward this would actually go quite well! Yuuki is a good kid, if a bit impatient at times, so he was perfectly happy to lend a helping hand.
Without Kazuo to run the company, Dr. Reiner took charge, and he took advantage of this. He secretly constructed a second Thundatross and kept the second half of Pipijuras’s teleporter. When Yuuki retrieves Gorogong’s giant Giga Crystal that OtamaTEC commissioned the GTDI to retrieve with the help of Gigaman (who I’ll eventually cover), he hooks it up to the teleporter and opens up a portal to the hollow earth. He then gets into his “Unit 02” and goes through. However, Dr. Reiner wasn’t able to build his mech without Kazuo’s security system, so to get around this he basically kidnaps Yuuki’s dad and straps him into the cockpit.
The rest of the story mode is Yuuki and Gigaman finding a way into the hollow earth to find Reiner, stop him, and rescue Kazuo. They confront him at the Giga Core where he tells him that he plans to use both mechs to drain the Giga Core of its Giga Energy and starve all kaiju on the planet, which Gigaman points out would destabilize it and potentially blow up the planet. Dr. Reiner however, is so hellbent on kaiju elimination that he doesn’t care if he’d destroy the world, and to stop him Yuuki and Thundatross have to fight him in an epic climactic battle, with Gigaman giving Yuuki one last extra push to succeed and save his dad. The whole thing is very anime, it’s great.
Afterwards they kinda just leave Dr. Reiner in the wreck of his mech to starve to death in the hollow earth, which is kinda fucked up??
Also the devs confirmed that this story mode is the closest to a “canon” one.
In summary, Thundatross is an excellently executed anime mech with a cool story mode, and it’s a great addition to Gigabash. It also reveals many interesting things about Giga Energy.

thoughts on the ironhide storyline?
Knights of the Golden Circle: the Atomic Robo arc so peak that it's singled out in the site preview blurb.
Well, I'm assuming you mean that, and there isn't an Ironhide RSA I missed. (I'd read it! I prefer the spinoff genre characters to the real-person teams, which may defeat the purpose of the title Real Science Adventures, but whatever.)
"Thoughts." That's vague. Well, I love the bonkers set-up. There are other arcs that can absolutely only be done once (Ghost of Station X, Savage Sword of Dr. Dinosaur, Vengeful Dead), but only this one has the quality of Brian + Scott leaning in like "Okay. We know. We swore that causality is sacred and there will be NO time shenanigans, and that's STILL true. But just this once we're going to bend our own rule slightly, because we really, really, really want our robot to get to be a cowboy. Thanks for understanding."
The art's fantastic. I'm glad this one made it under the wire for the era of pencil-lined Robo volumes because the subtle textures really complete the grungy dusty look. The colors, too. Robo's electric blue and vril's crystalline pink stand out like alien intrusions in the sepia-toned world. Mwah.
My first time reading, I felt like it was a cop-out on the stable time loop to make Ironhide real in his own right. But since then my opinion has reversed! It cultivates a real air of Old West legend for Robo to be preceded by whispers of a reputation so shrouded in mystery that he doesn't even know it. I now actually think it should've taken Robo until maybe his dozenth public superhuman feat to realize I May Be Contributing To The Legend Somewhat.
Robo's initial interest in Ironhide strikes me as a riff on kids latching onto representation in comics. Especially when characters "like you" are stereotyped or absent, so you imprint on someone who isn't supposed to be like you, but represents your personal experience way more. But I'm probably projecting there.
Paradoxically to my RSA opinions, I like historical cameos in Robo proper. Holliday + Reeves + Robo are a really fun trio. Helsie is a fine "final boss", but I'm glad more time was spent on Caldwell's gang to get our fill of saloon shootouts and train chases first.
As an aside—pulps have a tendency to pick a villain from an "anti-American" political group with little thought put toward their underlying ideologies. (Which is how you get "our blonde superhuman can out-punch the Nazi ubermensch, so there" and incoherent Soviet/Nazi team-ups.) I point this out to say that the writing in Robo is generally better than that. It may tiptoe around historical politics a little (Helsingard is a Nazi collaborator, the Knights used to be Confederates), but the pulpy cyborg plot keeps at least one throughline: these were people in the human trafficking business for power and profit. And of the legends of the old west, Bass Reeves would have some very strong convictions about that.
Honestly a weakness here is that the story gives you a lot of hints in place of explanations and just trusts you'll work it out. Like the FIFTEEN YEAR timeskip. I only NOW, writing this, realized that the dates on the wall (which make no sense as "where am I in history?" guesses) are probably reactor lifespan calculations.
It's a better problem to have than agonizing infodumps or actual plot holes, but in some cases I liked my initial assumptions better than the real answers! Like, I first thought he was using his own heart to power his gadgets, and that's what was killing him so fast. Would've been metal if true. (I guess he did rebuild himself to make that possible later.)
Well, even minus that. It's a tasty cowboy trope for the protagonist to know they're already dying (or I've just listened to Streets of Laredo too many times) and a great time travel trope for the ending to be a foregone conclusion and our protagonist to still fight like hell to the bitter end. Yesssss.
In a way, this is already how readers experience the historical stories, trying to piece together the cost for this preordained victory with scraps of historical knowledge and faith that it will all make sense eventually. But this time Robo's in on it, too.
#atomic robo#But enough about me anon. What do YOU think#no really. I have like 1.5 friends who know this comic. Every time I reread it I'm mostly just grinning maniacally to myself

Sega Mega Drive - Atomic Robo Kid
Title: Atomic Robo Kid / アトミック・ロボキッド
Developer: UPL / Khaos
Publisher: Treco
Release date: 14 December 1990
Catalogue No.: T-24013
Genre: Horizontal Shooting Action
Do you like your shooters tough? If you do, then this could be the game for you. Unlike most shooters where the screen automatically scrolls, in Atomic Robo Kid the screen scrolls with you pretty much like a platform game would do. This makes for a very nice “my pace” game or so it would seem. I say “so it would seem” because you can’t actually hang about in one given area due to the oncoming swarms of enemies. So, it’s always in your best interest to keep moving. This really does add to the pace of the game. One thing I don’t like though is the re-spawning. You only have to move away from the screen you were just on to find everything that you had just killed re-appear a few seconds later. I hate stuff like this however I can sort of live with it in Atomic Robo Kid since Atomic Robo Kid wouldn’t be much of a challenge without it.
Graphically the game is quite nice, especially for such an early Mega Drive title. Nice big beefy sprites and decent backgrounds really do give this game an arcade feel. The audio is pretty decent as well thanks to some nice sound effects and fitting tunes.
Atomic Robo Kid is quite a nice change from the normal type of shooters that’s well worth checking out.

again its ok for the Justice League to stop dictatorships on other planets or third world countries but not to stop any other countries doing wrong again Dr. Soos fixed Booster's shredded suit b4. The robo suit that Ted made is of lesser quality that Dr. Soos' work and was unnecessary
unless folks just wanted to change Booster's hero costume
so people do tours of the Justice League headquarters given they're public government back figures and people want to know more about them. But like… superheroes get attacked all the time why bring kids to the Justice League head quarters? Fire is clearly bitter about shit, which having emotions about things is fine but if she can't be professional around these kids she shouldnt be part of the tour
and Booster is casually sexist about her having feelings and expressing them in the wrong time and place where these impressionable kids can hear him
and Bea calls him out on his fucking sexism which she should, but Booster brushes it off and changes the subject
and then he apologizes but like that's annoying that he brushed her off in the first place
also again, Booster could have just gone back to Dr. Soos to get his costume fixed a lot better than Ted managed in this series. Like, Booster didnt mention something having happened to the man in this series so I have to assume the writer forgot Dr. Soos exists even tho it was the same writer from Booster's solo also good on Ted for not going with trying to recreate the accident that gave Bea her powers b/c that would be too fucking dangerous and might not even work. Nice to see the ooc version of Ted in this series has at least one ethic
meanwhile there's political strife and family drama happening with Ice in her homeland and interesting that her evil brother dresses like a slut
man said the only things his armor needs to protect in their ice kingdom is his groin and kneecaps also he's a dick
there being sexism in Tora's culture would explain her kind of slutshaming of Bea on a frequent basis
and Guy just constantly sexually harasses his female coworkers constantly regardless of whether or not he's still trying to be a couple with Ice/thinks of her as his girl
i dont think Booster actually tested out this new suit b4 deciding to take it into the field. He's been shown to be impatient about getting back into heroing
also these fishpeople space cops seem very professional. Too bad for them they look a lot less human than the alien criminals (at lest one of which is a rapist) they're chasing and we all know how superheroes just jump into shit without listening to people and assault the least human looking fuckers there
it bothers me that this is one of those situations that Superman tried to force Booster to understand with people claiming to be the victims actually being the bad guys.
eh like, more that shit with Superman and Booster annoys me than there being situations where fuckers just lie to superheroes at the very least yall should probably talk to someone who knows both intergalactic law and about the aliens yer dealing with
of course the Usono government coming in willing to use force to get the Justice League to turn folks over to be extradited doesnt help. Mostly just cause how fucking fight happy superheroes are instead of talking shit through. Just go along with folks and ask for proof of the space cops' claims
again yall could just go to the UN with folks, and ask for proof instead of getting yer feelings in a twist and fighting the soldiers of one of teh countries providing yer funding
superheroes really just like settling things with violence huh
wow Booster its almost like you should have tested that armor thoroughly before going out into the field with it where yer life would be in danger
Guy also sexually harasses female enemies constantly
just why cant we fire Guy? He's unprofessional, an asshole, and active danger to his teammates and the public
Captain Atom, not being interested in fighting for fightings sake, decides to call it quits and let his higher ups talk to the people in charge of the League
for people who live in an ice kingdom yall like exposed skin. I'm gonna have to assume being ice gods with ice powers the cold doesnt bother them.
you never know with DC, they just had Wonder Woman and Maxima in Alaska with no protective gear and I cant be certain that they'd be unaffected by the cold so Ice's brother killed their dad to stop him from appointing Ice as his heir
Booster just hasn't been able to move since his new costume got shorted out and that is a major safety concern
Booster just gets left there on the table
and the editor didnt catch the errors on Wonder Woman's speech bubble
i dont even know which president that is. But the League is being ordered to turn over the alien criminals
the government probably should rethink having the sanctioned Justice League full of people who are just fucking vigilantes with not really any loyalty to the governing bodies or the law
yall could just be making soldiers into metas and having them in the sanctioned superhero league if you want someone who'd actually follow orders and be less likely to cause international incidents as this bunch of loose canons Wonder Woman, where's yer proof that those two alien criminals are telling the truth? They respond to most things with violence and attempted lethal force thus far and were vague about what they're wanted for. They could have been lying or downplaying shit
and man I hate that thing with Superman going "you can't just be helping people" being in my mind while reading this cause Superman was on some conservative bs in a poorly written story and very blatantly just didn't like Booster Gold
why did you approach their ship while openly carrying very big guns
and are surprised that teh space cops fired a warming shot?
the warning shot accidentally was too close to one of the military guys approaching. But the superheroes are just raring to fight without talking to fuckers
not the space cops going 'this isnt worth their time, the earthers can deal with these fuckers'
huh, Fire's doing research on alien law
also damn this man couldn't even wait for the space cops to leave b4 trying to rape Fire
and also going after one of the ladies in the group currently sheltering you from teh cops, like at least leave to find a victim
at least they;ve got proof now that these guys are criminals
Bea is not helpless without her powers. Apparently she used to be a member of the Brazilian equivalent of the CIA
the man's partner knocks Bea out unfortunately after she started asking questions. Thankfully for her his partner stops him from assaulting her while she's out cause they have more pressing business
also apparently the fish people space cops are a lot more responsible than Earth cops, apparently they wouldnt just rough up civilians to get to the criminals they're after so Ice's people can be effected by the cold if its cold enough. Why the fuck are yall dresssing so sluttily in snow then?
Wonder Woman just hand the fucker over good lords
so folks are actually having a meeting and talking
Wonder Woman admits to part of teh reason she refused to hand the prisoners over was just her being speciesist towards the fish aliens for their looks. Also WW that's not how the law works, last I remember in teh USA if a criminal from another country who did their crimes in a different country tried to hide in teh USA the USA would turn the fuckers over to the country they did the crimes in for the law there to handle them?
Guy apparently flips his shit about people telling him to keep calm and let the rest of them talk shit through and kills one of the criminals and flies off.

pluto 2
ch39: "you would know wouldn't you" is darius talking to geischt or to the us teddy bear super computer. There's several panels of a surveillance camera so it could be both. The field of flowers both darius and robo pluto were trying to draw it.
40: pluto the tulip that survived when all other wilted to dust. is the manga implying this tulip cannibalized the others and thats why its prohibited from being planted in the ground?
Abra dead and revived with robotics? Or abra dead dead and thats an imposter. Wait nothing ever grew where the pluto tulip was ever again?
Ahh sahad is pluto or more accurately was made into pluto the whole stronger body thing
47. Did they just kill off the main character. Chad move
48. Damn. 3 robots struggling to keep track of the names. Wow the un + us really did burn persia to the ground. Ok so abra was developing giant war robot bora. Tenma shoved the personas of 6 billion ppl into a goji and it went comatose. Idk how much the 2 collaborated here. Abra dies in bombing but digitized a part of his brain. Tenma uploads it to to goji and the strong emotions awaken them learning hatred, rage, sorrow so now goji's going by the name abra and is consumed with revenge. They then shove sahad's ai into bora creating pluto and instilling in them a revenge quest. I don't know what was up with pluto's body hopping. And now tenma is uploading geischt's data onto atom. I don't get why they donct have atom's mind data to use
Epsilon's totally dead
51. Who are the 2 sorrows? Still weird uran and teddy bear arent considered part of the greatest ais
55. Back to atom. Reread a section and dr tenma's repairs fixed him physically but like goji he's stuck in infinite simulation. Geischt's last emotion was strong hatred. But the moment before new atom opened their eyes is when epsilon was killed and they and pluto rained the world with sorrow. I dont know what up with that thracia crack but something up
56. Us thracia really the big bad here
Turning indigenous ppl into a tourist attraction. Yeah.
58. Why does that elevator not have guard rails. Oh woops did i get goji confused with someone else? Ok so goji is the persian scientist who made the incomplete giant bora that roboabra is telepathically controlling. Ok yeah he was goji tenna's greatest ai and scientist goji never existed. Huh i thought the cockroaches were controlled by abra /pluto were they thracia this whole time??
59. Hmm did atom and geischt hivemind? "Robots dont lie" his says as he blatantly lies
60. Oh split personality i qas giving robo abra more credit than he actually deserved
61. The author is blowing up yosemite and causing volcanic winter. Thats so good (plot wise). Well we finally have teddy bear's agenda: robots take over the world.
62. Tenma might have made the greatest ai but ochanomizu made the most emotional robot
After 65 chapters we finally have the reveal that uh... criminal dude killed geischts kid and thats why ge lost it and murderer him.
In atom we see the possibility to overcome hatred or to feel hatred but choose not to destroy. There's strong themes of creation vs destruction here. "Nothing will be born from hatred" and creation being tied to plants with bora originally being a forestation robot reprogrammed into a world ending bomb, and sahad originally trying to un-dessert persia and fill it with flowers. Hoji is overwhelmed by hatred and does nothing but destroy. Thracia uses says the forestation robots are weapons if mass destruction as rational to destroy persia.
Of course there's the "what makes a human" question repeatedly discussed. A human is imperfect so a perfect robot is imperfect it hates, it kills, it lies. There's many times where robots are difficult to tell from humans like geischt, uran, atom, and goji (so much he thought he was human.
Really good story overall, i do love plot. This series is some of the best I've seen at narrative tension which I suppose is expected from a thriller author.
