The hurt bicyclist in episode 2x04 of the Bear is a microcosm of the show’s themes in the best and most agonizing way. He’s bloody and injured, pinned down by the fence and unable to move until Marcus helps him up, and then in order to overcome the symbolic language barrier they share a tender hug of gratitude. In that moment I found myself hoping everything would be okay, even as the ominous music told me it wouldn’t be. Because then the man immediately gets back on the bike as if it is inevitable. As if returning to the thing that hurt him is his only option. And although Marcus says “after you sure you want to get back on the bike?” the man doesn’t respond because he lacks the ability to discuss his safety/feelings with Marcus. He just rides away.

Watching the "Quiet On Set" documentary with my boyfriend reminded me of meme rap Joji wrote right before he became Joji (i.e., when he was still Filthy Frank). A song my bf showed me ages ago that references everything mentioned in the documentary.

I think some people forget how drastically the #MeToo movement changed our social norms in regard to workplace harassment. It's becoming harder and harder for abusive assholes to get away with shit. All the groups they'd usually leverage sociopolitical power against before (primarily anyone who wasn't a white cishet landowning man) now has backup and receipts and solidarity. And it's scaring them because they're getting more and more sneaky.

Don't let them be sneaky.

hey guys I just connected some dots and when I say to you that we owe every 5sos gf since 2011 so much better treatment that doesn’t even cover half of it. it’s one thing to empathise over the internet sure but when it’s a real person less than 2 degrees of separation from you it feels so much more like. this is a human who deserves to be adored and celebrated just as much as a man she’s associated with and it’s like. I know I can’t gift anyone else the experience of empathy in like being a local or whatever but when I tell you that this fandom has inadvertently done so much damage to not only women who happened to know the boys but also to their professional careers and music and things they choose to share with us (or stop sharing with us) please believe me and please join the conversation around the fact that yes we’ve done a really shitty job in the past. but we’re growing up and we can do better I believe that 100%
