betty may sound put-together in cardigan as an adult looking back but i know in my heart she was screaming better than revenge in her room the night after she heard the rumors from inez

i know that forever winter is supposedly about jeff lang, and i don’t mean to diminish that in any way, but does any one else think that forever winter fits augustine’s perspective of james so well?
“i’d fall to pieces on the floor / if you weren’t around / too young to know it gets better / i’ll be summer sun for you forever” is very “so much for summer love and sayin’ us / cause you weren’t mine to lose”
“he says he doesn’t believe anything much he hears these days” is very “you heard the rumors from inez / you can’t believe a word she says”
“he spends most of his nights wishing it was how it used to be” = “nights spent next to her, but / i dreamt of you all summer long”

august is the month for girls who have never made it to the top in the list of priorities. girls who've always only been an option. girls who don't know what it feels like to be someone's first. girls who know too well how it feels to be the shoulder for someone to cry upon, but never the eyes for someone to see their future in. girls who dream of eternal love, even when the world has given them a million reasons to not believe in such a phenomenon. girls who've never experienced the joys of being loved unconditionally. girls who never stop chasing the sunlight, only for the sun to still disappear behind the horizon at the end of the day. girls who still don't give up on hope, because hope is the only thing that's ever been theirs.
