Long-Tailed Mouse (Pseudomys higginsi)
Family: Typical Mouse Family (Muridae)
IUCN Conservation Status: Least Concern
Found only on Tasmania but widely distributed across its home island, the Long-Tailed Mouse is one of relatively few non-marsupial mammals native to Australia (with its ancestors having likely drifted from southern Asia on beds of vegetation around 6-8 million years ago.) While members of this species can inhabit a wide range of habitats they are most abundant in wet, humid forests, and are largely nocturnal (spending the day in a burrow dug in soft, damp soil, although in areas where predators are scarce they may become increasingly active during the day.) Long-Tailed Mice feed on insects, fruits, ferns, mosses and other forms of damp vegetation (often taking in so much water when eating that they do not need to drink,) and dig networks of tunnels across the forest floor near their home den to allow them to forage without being detected by predators such as Australian Masked Owls, Eastern Quolls and invasive Domestic Cats with which their natural predators are forced to compete. Adults of this species breed mainly between November and April (although mating may occur at any time of year following heavy rainfall, with the population of this species often exploding in size following rainy periods,) and it is typical for a single female to produce two litters of 2-4 young in each breeding season. Newborn Long-Tailed Mice are furry but unable to move, see or eat, and remain in their mother’s den where they are protected and fed on milk until they are around 40 days old. Although a mother Long-Tailed Mouse will typically leave her young in their den when she goes out to forage, she is able to carry them away from the den and to safety in the event of an attack by having them cling to her underside using specialized blunt, inwards-facing incisors with which they are born.

Finally got the pearlescentmoon design done!
She’s an Australian masked owl.
I was going to go with the lesser sooty owl but i had a hard time with the wing shape and thought the masks owl went well with the color pallet of her MC skin.
Please tell me how the quality of the picture is.

Hello! So for a while I've been wanting to make Pearlecentmoon a hybrid with an Australian species of owl, but there's so many different owls in Australia. In your opinion what type of owl should I base her design on? I hope you don't mind me asking, Thank you!
You have absolutely come to the right person, as I adore our owls!
Here are a few options for you!
The Lesser Sooty Owl is found in rainforests and eucalypt forests, the females are bigger than the males and its range of habitat is pretty small, found mainly in Far North Queensland. However, the bird slaps with beautiful wings and a pretty mesmerising call.
Tumblr media
The Australian Masked Owl is also a really beautiful owl. It's a species of barn owl which lives around the coast of Australia, avoiding the inland deserts and some of the deserts that connect to the western coast. Fun fact, but this is the bird that the main characters of Legend of the Guardians: The Owls of Ga'Hoole are based on! They've got beautiful golden brown feathers and are some of my favourite owls!
Tumblr media
The Tawny Frogmouth isn't actually an owl, but it is a close relative of nightjars! I have always considered it an honorary owl, as it is a nocturnal bird that looks relatively like an owl. So I guess this could be a wildcard for you! Their found all across Australia, including in deserts, and have mottled plumage to help them camouflage, as it looks like dead tree branches. Fun fact, but when I was a kid they would sleep on the veranda and I would watch them through my bedroom window! They look really dumb, but I want more people to love these big dumb looser birds! Also, they have red eyes.
Tumblr media
I hope these help, please tag me in whatever design you decide to go for!

Sniper tickle headcanons? I love tf2, I love him, and he deserves all the tickles in the world🥺
Guess what, hun? I love him too, in fact I agree with all three points you made! And I'm so happy you sent me this ask because it gave me an excuse to talk about this gorgeous Australian marksman <3
Tumblr media
I do not simp this man, I do not simp this man, I DO NOT SIMP THIS MAN, I D-- oh no, I'm a fangirl
As a ler:
I disagree with the common fan interpretation that Sniper is this very serious, no-nonsense dude. Yes, he prides himself on his professionalism while on the job, but we're talking about a guy who's absolutely having the time of his life when he's bewitched with an owl head and who seemed to be at least somewhat amused by Scout's prank drawings in Expiration Date. I'd even question his professionalism as he's just as prone to silly antics as his colleagues :'D So I think he's actually quite a bit of a ler.
Sniper's ler side is probably reserved only to a romantic partner. But whoever that person may be they'd better be prepared for frequent tickle attacks. ;) You two are cuddling in public? A hand snakes under your shirt while you try not to make a scene. He was kissing your neck and noticed you scrunch up ever so little? He breaks into an evil grin, then pins you down to unleash a relentless tickly neck kiss attack. Sniper is a dangerous ler, be warned: quite the same way he does his job with utmost efficiency, he finds the lee's most sensitive spots with scary accuracy and just goes in for the kill with quite aggressive tickles, almost like a wild animal bouncing on its prey.
Also, I hope your ears aren't ticklish. Because if they are, through the whole duration of his attack you will also have to endure teasing taunts whispered right into your sensitive ear.
As a lee:
Oh Sneeps. <3 A prime example of the character trope "I'm not ticklish. >:| (yes, he totally is)".
I think he can take rougher tickles fine or at least not be too incapacitated to fight back. However... a softer touch, especially by small feminine hands or manicured nails will do him in veeery quickly. Of course he tries to hold in his reactions - he's got a manly reputation to protect - but the small twitches, shallower breathing etc. give him away. ;) He even tries to mask his laughter as displeased grunts at first but when the dam breaks, his ticklish laughter sounds either like whiny chuckles or loud, higher-pitched crys of laughter not unlike his Scream Fortress shrieks, depending on the intensity of the tickles.
Sniper is a bit sensitive all over but his major tickle spots are his stomach (that cute little pudge), ribs (just think how long nails gliding along them feel) and feet (he's not used to being touched there by anyone really). He generally dislikes being tickled because he isn't that fond of the sensation itself and finds it kinda humiliating; however, to a romantic partner/interest he'll allow it. He denies hard he secretly enjoys the intimacy but shh, you didn't hear anything from me.

(From @worldsandmuses)
It might have been a strange sight seeing an Australian masked owl stretching his wings beside a sparsely feathered crow chick, but fae never really followed animal rules unless they wanted to. And for some of them, like Oliver, their animal forms were a preference rather than a requirement.
"Alright, now spread our wings like this," Oliver said, lifting his broad, dual-colored wings. "And flap like this."
He demonstrated, leaning forward as he slowly demonstrated how to properly flap one's wings. He knew Theodore wasn't quite old enough for branching yet, as he would need plenty of wing strength to glide down. But if he could teach him the basics, then perhaps they could chance a few short glides to the ground.
The boy's mother had told him that a special surprise was coming, and he had been full of a manic energy for weeks afterward. When it was closer to the day, Mom had said it was a birthday surprise for him turning ten. Then she had said the surprise was a visitor. And when the day finally arrived and they were at the docks, little Theo had been overjoyed to meet his Uncle Oliver for the first time!
It had taken several more days to calm the boy again. Nobody else in his family was a fey, they all had a little bit of fey in them, but nobody was truly a fey like he and his uncle where. Nobody else could fly! And Theo so badly wanted to learn how to fly!
He was standing atop the short set of steps that led to their front door. There were three steps, Theo's father had made them himself. The little crow fledge stretched his wings out to his sides, he stood taller on his tiny legs and tried to catch the small breeze that came down the street from the docks. With eyes closed the tiny bird breathed in the salt air with a sigh, imagining being up with the terns that swept gracefully around the mouth of the river.
The crow fledgling lept lightly from the top step and tried to flap. Just as before with the ladder he tumbled down to the ground and lay there in a heap. He blinked bright blue eyes up at the owl's masked face. "Like that?"

100 Dollars, old (1996-2017) and new (2020-), Australia
Denomination: Australian dollar (in circulation)
Composition: polymer
Despite being similar on first glance, the change in the new(ish) Australian $100 banknotes are vast and interesting. My favourite change being (of course) the new security window, with the masked owl replacing the lyrebird as the featured creature.
There is also the addition of braille at the base of the note, and microprint with excerpts from Dame Nellie Melba's autobiography and a letter from Sir John Monash.

If you were an owl what owl would you be
Uhhh.
I briefly discussed this yesterday when I was discussing my favourite owls, but Tyto novaehollandiae kimberli (Northern Australian masked owl). They're native to Kakadu and I see them often at night. Also they scream and it's terrifying--T. novaehollandiae is the largest Tyto species in the world!
They're sexually dimorphic, with females being larger and darker than males. Considering I'm short because I'm biologically female, I'd assume that that would be reversed and that I'd be a very large owl. However I'd like to think that cuz of the intersex thing I'd also be very light-coloured compared to a female.
I think I'd have less of the female brown pattern and more of the male grey, and I'd also have the whiter face of the males (see bottom image in this cluster).
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Cuz females normally have darker faces, and honestly I very much like the contrast of the male's dark body and white face. These are females below. Females are darker than males overall.
