Excited to get these on the “shelves” of my shop @ raquellejacqueline.com ! In other news, I’ve been working hard on my book- I’m finally scratching my way out of this rut. I think we all are, as we all collectively feel the impending release from pandemic strife. Fingers crossed everything will go according to plan!!!! I’ve been exploring San Diego a little bit more and I’ve been feeling a lot better about moving here. It’s an f-ing BEAUTIFUL part of the world!! And there are some nice dirty places that feel comfortable. My complaint before was that it feels so sanitized, but that’s not ALL of San Diego. And I’m figuring that out! Anyway ENJOY! OMG! Thanks to everybody who came out to the North Park Book Fair here in hot as f San Diego!! And thanks especially to @burn_all_books for inviting me to guest star at their tent for a few hours!! Also thank you to @inscriptu for their INCREDIBLE work printing like 95% of my stuff :,) y’all are amazing. It was so great to be a part of another event! It’s always so life-affirming and exhilarating, especially when I’m asked to sign my work 😭😭😭. Can’t wait to schedule more events like this one and meet even more new friends and fans!! •• P.S. In some of these photos, the colors seem a little weird because i was under a green tent (WHICH I THANK GOD FOR BECAUSE HOLY CRAP THIS CALIFORNIA SUN IS BRUTAL) but it sort of shaded all the pics with this green filter haha, which was a little difficult to edit out, but I did my best <3!! I’m absolutely not complaining tho because I’m too white to be outside in the high noon sun without having some shade to hide under lolol. I still applied sunscreen every hour though lol. I have many parts from this comic that I love (as well as many MANY parts that make me wanna melt from embarrassment... which imo is the mark of a good comic)... I’ve been told that people need to gasp for air when they read it because it’s so INTENSE lol... which is something I aim to do :,). Aline Kominsky-Crumb and Phoebe Gloeckner’s comics are definitely gasp-ers. And they are goddesses to me. (Old concept) Ughhhhhhh I wish I could control who I’m attracted to... i have the weirdest taste in men. Idk I have a lot to figure out about what romance will look like in my life. I need to figure out what I need. Right now I’m in this place where I can’t imagine having a partner... I don’t even know what that would look like in my life rn. It makes me so tense to think about. I’ve tried to go on the dating apps but honestly words can not describe the infinitesimally small amount of enthusiasm I have for going on dates and “putting myself out there” in that way. But at the same time I yearn for some kind of storybook romance. Something disgusting where it’s perfect and we’re co-pilots and I’m a BRIDE... But then I think about the reality of falling in love and it feels like a hand tightening around my neck and I think of my parents and how my DNA is theirs and then I feel sick and think I should just leave well enough alone. It’s hard not to get ahead of myself I guess. Like whenever I’m on a date I’m like “what’s the end game of this, huh? Throwing dishes at eachother and driving eachother crazy- swerving into incoming traffic as one of us yanks the wheel with the kids in the back seat?” Ugh and then my skin crawls BLEH. Not looking for advice. Just complaining and being angsty and dumping my emotions on here :,). I just need to figure out how love should fit in my life. It doesn’t have to be conventional... if I’m worried about the impending trajectory of mutually assured destruction then maybe I oughtta approach dating in a more casual way.
