I was just thinking about the Red Raids and my mind went to the ages of Erend, Ersa, and Avad.

So, when we meet Erend in Mother’s Heart before the Proving, we are told abt the Raids. He also says that he can’t remember life before the Red Raids. Erend’s age is unspecified but we do know that he’s in his early to mid 20s. When we first meet him, he seems to be around 22-23ish. We learn that the Raids had ended 2 years prior and they lasted for about 12 years. So, by the end of the Raids, he’s about 20-21ish. Take 12 years away from that and that must put Erend at around 8-9 years old when the Red Raids first started, this explains his inability to remember his life, due to not remembering things as a child. And the wiki page tells us that Avad starts to rally the Oseram about a decade into the Raids which would make Erend about 18-19 when he became a Freebooter.

Fuck, he was really young when the Red Raids started.

Now, what about Ersa and Avad.

Well, the two are said to be around the same age from what I’ve read. Avad is said to be no older than his late 20s, I’d say that he’s around 28-29 when we meet him in Zero Dawn. I think Ersa is about a year-ish younger than him so I’d say about 27-28 give or take. That would make Avad around 26-27 when he took up the crown and Ersa would be 25-26 at the end of the Raids. Going by the same theory of the 12 year Red Raids, Avad would be about 14-15 when the Raids started, with Ersa being 13-14. And again, a decade into the Raids, Avad rallied the Freebooters when he was around 24-25. This would make Ersa about 23-24 when she took up arms alongside Avad and her brother.

Good Gods… They were so young when Jiran started his horrible plans.

They deserve so much better man.

Anyways, this makes me want to cry, this wasn’t even that much of a lore deep dive. What the fuck man.

avad excited to finally ditch the crown to join aloy and leave the sundom, arriving at her mysterious base for his first adventure just to be greeted by a glowing machine that immediately knows his name and entire history, his missing vanguard captain and missing sunhawk, a tenakth marshal from the clan that nearly jeopardized his embassy, the first utaru brave enough to fight the carja in the red raids, and a bizarre person from an advanced imperialist nation across the world all sitting in a lounge archiving apollo and blasting jackson five while aloy is in the corner playing space invaders with one hand and coding hephaestus with the other next to her apparent fucking twin and the asshole who founded the eclipse threat that kept his brother prisoner and nearly ended the world

Thinking about younger Erend, Ersa, and Avad again.

Because, at the height of the Red Raids, Avad came to two Oseram people who could care less about the Carja, especially the Carja Prince, he was helpless and hurt because of Jiran. They could’ve turned away from him, but they didn’t. Instead, they helped him because they realized that even though he was Jiran’s son he also felt that his father’s actions were wrong. Ersa and Erend have seen some of the most sacred parts of Avad. They’ve seen him as a King, Prince, and something much less. They have seen him as a helpless man who had no power to his name. And that is what makes me happy about the three of them. Avad was willing to show complete strangers his weaknesses, and in doing so he trusted them wholeheartedly. And in turn, Erend and Ersa stayed by his side in those times. Because they knew that if the Carja Prince trusted them with this, he genuinely believed that his father needed to be overthrown.

The relationship between the three of them just makes me so happy.

These three are invading my brain, so expect a lot of posts about them. Sorry not sorry.

He did what he knew had to be done. He was the one to do it, nobody else.

Avad knew that 𝙝𝙚 had to be the one to do it. Everything in his life had led up to that moment.

For him to be able to do that and take up the throne with courage is something only 𝙝𝙚 could do. Sure, he may have had the Oseram but nobody could do what he did.

And now he’s learned much as a King, he’s also been learning from Jiran’s mistakes. He has become infinitely better than his father.

You’re going to have to pry this man and his past from my cold dead hands. I am NOT giving him up.

avad killed jiran. with his own hands.

you can't take that away from him; it is fundamental to his character.

it is the thing he did that defines him as a ruler who wants to be good and kind, but understands that ruthlessness is a necessary evil. sometimes, you have to be ruthless to do good.

it is a stain on his honor that he carries and wears. it is the burden of his guilt that he bears with the crown. it is essential to his character to be someone who killed his father in order to save his city.

you can't take that away from avad.
