Did you know of/listen to FOB/Pete before reading Gray or did the book come first?
I knew about FOB because everyone did in 2013 but I wasnt really like A Fan until I read Pete’s book. Anyway this is my origin story
In February 2013 I was in 8th grade. And I was in marching band. So as you can imagine the biggest thing in the world was FOB getting back together and MCR breaking up. My songs know what you did in the dark was also on the radio 24/7.
Anyway, I was already on Tumblr to post about Supernatural. And the average 14yo used to be able to download massive zip files of whatever music was cool off Tumblr to their iPod. I remember loving Where Did The Party Go and listening to it on the bus. But to me this was just Popular Music like The 1975 or Bastille.
And there was also a website called 8tracks where everyone would make playlists about fandoms and you could download those too, and I remember Just One Yesterday was on every Supernatural fan mix because its about angels.
Anyway there was also something happening at the same time called YouTube Could Be On The TV Now and only one girl at my lunch table had this kind of TV so after school groups of people would go watch youtube videos like charlie the unicorn at her house and someone showed the Youngblood Chronicles because it was like the most edgy dark fucked up thing any 14 year old had ever seen.
I was a little excessively sheltered so it was too scary for me but I did think it was cool, however I distinctly remember being absolutely crushed when Pete came onscreen because they hyped him up as the sexy one and then I thought he was ugly as hell and had no interest in him. Sorry. I did understand Patrick was good looking but I didn’t like, care. It is difficult to comprehend this now but in 2013 FOB was an inescapable cultural phenomenon Happening At School.
Anyway because I was in marching band we went on a Band Trip and you had to use the buddy system but nobody wanted to be my buddy. So the band director made me and another unpopular girl named Jennifer be buddies, and we immediately ended up BFFs for all of high school. She was extremely obsessed with bands like MCR, Pierce the Veil, Slipknot, Sleeping with Sirens etc that were a little beyond Fall Out Boy in terms of edginess.
Anyway I started hanging out with her friend group which was like the emo lunch table. Out of all those bands I only could tolerate MCR. My mom also did not want me hanging out with these people because they all smoked cigarettes and had lip piercings and dyed their hair and had like a million stepdads.
Anyway pretty soon after this happened a bunch of girls in this friend group got tickets to see The Used and we wanted to be FRONT ROW so we slept over at Jennifer’s house.
At this sleepover we like made matching tshirts and listened to the Three Cheers CD and smoked tea rolled in printer paper (very cool) and double-pierced my ears because I didn’t have as many piercings. I screamed the entire time and everyone like permanently bent the toilet seat while this was happening and it was all very dramatic.
Anyway everyone had brought books and homework because we were going to get to the venue at the crack of dawn. Which was NOT necessary. NOBODY was camping for this concert. And one girl had brought Pete’s book and I ended up with it pretty quickly after getting there.
Once I started reading it, I couldn’t stop and was ignoring my friends and basically everything happening around me because it is the best book ever and I needed to finish it.
I read the entire thing in basically one sitting and when we had to go into the venue I had just a handful of pages left so I finished it between doors and the show starting and made my friend’s annoyed mom put it in her purse. Then we immediately saw The Used center barricade which was a very intense early concert experience. Bert is a really great live performer and was growling in our faces a lot and like biting wires and writhing around and there was the wall of death and a mosh pit and everything.
So as you can imagine this was all a permanently psyche altering experience for me but especially the book. Part of why I became so obsessed with it as a teen was I was really frustrated and upset everyone on Tumblr and every adult in my life hadn’t even read it but was so insistent it was a garbage book and it shouldn’t be my favorite. I brought it in for an assignment like 2 months after I first read it and got into an argument with my English teacher, who had actually been my favorite teacher ever up until that, and she was really condescending about it.
She gave me a B that was definitely not justified and probably the only time I’d ever gotten a B on an English assignment so I was extremely mad and like Needed To Be Right.
She was mad it was glorifying sex and drugs and mental illness or whatever and I was like arguing it was good and it was satire and she was like “this is absolutely not satire and its rotting your impressionable brain.”
Anyway I remember even on my first reading picking up on some of the Freud stuff and the use of racial terms which kind of clued me into the fact it was not being played completely straight and there was more going on. And I literally was right and it is the best book ever.
I read it over and over and took it to school and slept with it under my pillow from ages 14-17 until I discovered Green Day. Which is like a normal experience a lot of 14 year olds have with a book, but usually it’s like the catcher in the rye or whatever.
But anyway during this period I got super into Pete and Fall out boy lore and reading Chris’ journals because Pete is very cute and fall out boy are very good also

honestly the fact that smfs is getting average to above-average scores from the wide array of music critics is validating enough for me, considering pop punk as a genre as it exists now is hated by most of that crowd (ironically for the same reasons that fob fans love and connect to their music. amusing how art works like that). 20 yrs in and theyve still got it, bitch!

the recent, weird fatphobia nonsense bt mcr+fob fans has shed a lot of clarity on the fact that we are some goddamn bullies. objectively, there is no way to argue that fob fans aren't approx. 100x kinder on average than mcr fans. we literally have a reputation in other spaces as a collective of assholes and it is increasingly clear that is for good reason.
being old as fucking dirt, i've been around for both the advent of accessible internet and the my chem explosion after bullets. i took a years long break after the split and only came back around to online fan spaces within the past 2-3 years and it's so gross around here these days! lj didn't get down like this!
and yes, something something bad apples ruin bunches + assholes are the loudest voices in any room, and that's absolutely the gospel truth but! the prevalence of nerds-cum-bullies (don't) in my chem spaces is way higher than in other fandoms. we accidentally found ourselves on the come up and used it to perpetuate cycles of harm from the other side. that was never the fucking point.

Sanderson Unboxing
03 - Cytoverse March 2023
Well, this was a vast improvement on the first box. But that isn't exactly saying much - it's still a huge waste of money.
This was the theme I was most looking forward to, because Skyward is my favourite series. I had some really high hopes before I received my first monthly box, but obviously I have since lowered my expectations.
The last box was just a handful of assorted logo-ed office supplies. This box actually contains the sort of things I would expect to find in a book subscription. But... only three.
Considering that this costs more than your average subscription box, and DOESN'T come with a book, I really would expect a minimum of six or seven items of this quality.
The first item is a silicone mould. This, apparently, can be used for ice, chocolate, wax, resin, etc etc etc. It's in the shape of Doomslug, and I'll have a go at making something. My speciality is wax melts, but from experience I really doubt the fine details would come out in anything soft. For resin it would probably work, though.
The next item is a deck of playing cards. It's billed as a "Go Fish" deck, but it's literally a standard deck of cards. Each suit features a different type of slug, and the different denominations feature different foods. These are actually really cute, and the first item I've liked from this subscription so far.
The last item is a diecast replica of M-Bot, the ship Spensa flies in the Skyward series. In my post about my hopes for this subscription, the one thing I said I didn't want was figurines - I'm including figures of non-human beings and objects in this classification. They're so not my style, I just don't want them lying around my house. That said, I can't deny that this is good quality, and there's a lot of Sanderson fans who will lose it over this.
The character pin in this box is of Steris, from Era 2 of Mistborn. I'm really peeved that they're trying to pass these off as box "items"... they were included because a set of 12 character pins was one of the Kickstarter "thank you" gifts. These were not originally planned for the boxes, they were meant to be an extra. To include them in the "value" of the box is not justified - it's not a gift if you're paying for it. Also, I really hate these chibi-esque cheap pins - they're such bad quality and they're just really... dorky?
Honestly, I feel so ripped off by this whole scheme.
The boxes are not even close to being worth the price that was charged for them, and they charged international shipping at three times the rate it should actually have cost for such a small package. I can only assume they're pocketing the rest.
And January's item - the first book - still hasn't even shipped.
This actually just feels like a huge con, one that Brandon Sanderson and his team have made millions on. He's been one of my favourite authors for over a decade, and now I've just completely lost faith. To make such an offer to your fans, to ask them to buy into a project like this, to pay hundreds of pounds up front - and then not to deliver? To just fob them off with, frankly, an embarrassment of a product? It's a betrayal of trust.

Character Development “Hard Mode” Meme: ask for Mistii:
5. On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets?
16. Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success?
19. What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?
44. How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?
Character Development “Hard Mode” Meme: ask for Mistii:
On an average day, what can be found in your character’s pockets? Let's see what's in here. You really weren't ready for this one, I have so many pockets, and they are big too! Look, I can stick my hand in them all the way past my wrist! One thing I always carry is my comm device, couldn't live without it. Chapstick, pain relief. Ah, you'll laugh at this one but it's a fur toy I picked up at the cashier when I was buying Pazaak snacks. It just feels so nice in the hand you know? Tiny jar of ointment, works for itches, getting rid of bad smells, muscle sprains, getting out of weird situations by sticking some on my finger and pretending I just dug it out of my nose. Everything, really! Treats for Pazaak. Reading glasses. Fob for my ship, fob for my speeder. Mints! Let's look in one of the leg pockets, oh! Look at this cool rock I found! When I was a kid, my pockets were always full of random stones and junk. Tissue, small fan for when I get overheated, bandana. Last but not least, uh, pocket lint and an old piece of candy.
16 Which does your character idealize most: happiness or success? Success is just something you show off. It can be stripped from you. Once you're no longer the hot new thing or your money gets taken away, what are you? Happiness though? You ever seen someone who is happy? Doesn't matter what they have or don't have. That's what I want. 19 What is your character’s biggest relationship flaw? Has this flaw destroyed relationships for them before?
I, ah, have a tendency to shut down sometimes. Get too hard on myself. Yeah, it's cost me friends before. Never been in a romantic relationship, kinda too scared to do it.
44 How easy or difficult is it for your character to say “I love you?” Can they say it without meaning it?
Sugar, I tell my friends I love them every time I talk to them, and I never say it if I don't mean it.

My thoughts on Halo Infinite!
Not spoiler free!
Ok so I’m just gonna preface this just in case, with that this is MY OWN OPINION! These are MY thoughts on the game, playing through the story once, on Normal difficulty, without 100% completing the game. And I’m going to organize this by a few categories- The Story, Setting, Characters, Gameplay, & Final thoughts.
THE STORY-
I’m going to be blunt about this, I find the main story to be kind of average. It’s a fix-it plot bandaid for Halo 5 that relies mostly on the mystery of both original Cortana and Atriox. Nothing about it really had me on the edge of my seat, the Banished felt very tonally different than how I remember them in Halo Wars 2, and the new leader never had me invested. Several major plot points felt rushed and then forgotten extremely quickly- especially the one about The Weapons deletion. She’s mad at Chief for about 5 minutes and a boss fight before you both stumble upon the memory of original Cortana destroying the Brute home-world, then the Weapon thinks she’s as bad as Cortana? For some reason? And then that never gets brought back up, from what I can remember. Once you figure out the mystery, and get to the marvel style end-of-credits scene with the reveal of Atriox still being alive (somehow), I feel like a lot of the intrigue in the story dies, and that’s when the confusion starts to set in more. How is master chief fine after 6 MONTHS of no food or water? What was The Weapon doing all those 6 months, especially if she doesn’t know anything about Cortana or the Banished? How in the ever loving fuck did Atriox survive? How is Echo-216 able to walk and pilot a pelican so soon after excruciating torture? Why did both the Weapon AND Chief ignore the Weapon being scanned? Why are we just ignoring everything about the Created and the many, many implications that come with them? We even see some of the guardians! So we know they’re still there!! What’s going on!? How did that teleport at the end of the story use 3 days of their time? I get that some of these are probably going to be mysteries for DLC or whatever they plan to do for Halo Infinite to continue the story but it’s still frustrating, obvious sequel bait is never fun.
I did have a friend point out something to me about the story I thought was quite interesting though, he said that the subplot of Halo Infinite could be Master Chief realizing his action’s consequences on other people, and that was an angle I hadn’t really considered but as I got further in the story I agreed more and more. Through Chief’s actions, Echo-216 gets captured and tortured, and The Weapon is forced to start what the Harbinger wants. But also through his actions countless marines are saved, FOBs are reclaimed as miniature safe havens, big banished outposts and their productions are stopped, and Banished communication hubs are destroyed. A great and subtle way the game shows this is through the grunt on the Banished Comms. As you beat bosses, reclaim FOBS, and destroy outposts, the grunt notices and will have really funny lines about bosses being moved to another location and totally not dead, or that all the high ranking mini-bosses are all dead and that the Banished should be worried.
The Setting-
Zeta Halo is beautiful, no bones about it. I think this was a perfect way to integrate open world concepts with what Halo fans know and love. I really like all that’s packed into the areas, it does eventually start to feel extremely tedious and mindless but grapple-shotting up a mountain to see the view feels rewarding enough for me, the variety is greatly appreciated and I think really helps with keeping exploration fresh. I do like the fragmentation and blocking off of portions of the ring, even if it doesn’t follow reasoning from the books which were set on the same ring (which I do find disappointing). It lets you have good gradual opening of the map, and if you want to explore and find everything in one single area, you can do that by simply not progressing the story and finding all the secrets there. The UI also keeping track of your collection progress in each fragmented area is very useful. However, later in the game, once you unlock the aerial vehicles, especially the WASP with it’s on demand availability, I find that exploration for the sake of collectables like the Spartan Cores, Banished communication towers, or Multiplayer unlocks essentially becomes trivial, unless the game places the item underground in a cave.
I really enjoy the Forerunner architecture, it feels like a perfect combination of all of what we saw through the original trilogy and is consistent throughout the game and story. Going through the dark, ambient, and cramped spaces reminds me of levels like The Library and Sacred Icon. Even the infamous Halo 2 gondolas and chutes returned, that put a little bit of a smile on my face. I think they did a good job of showing the fragmentation of the ring internally in some of the Forerunner levels and areas, using them to change the pace and have some platforming instead of shooting. I do miss some of the unique and high-tech look of Halo 4 Forerunner architecture and technologies, but I think at this point including them would stand out even more if they tried to go back from going back.
The Characters-
I think the dynamic between Chief, Echo-216, and The Weapon to be interesting. You’ve essentially got: someone who has very little regard for himself outside of fighting, a regular schmuck who wants to go home, and a 5 year old who’s a genius. But outside of that dynamic, and the same interaction of: Chief goes off to fight and is a grizzled old man, Echo-216 freaks out and yells, and The Weapon acts naive and/or selfless, their relationship feels shallow. I know you could chalk it up to them knowing each other for a short amount of time, but with how this game focuses it’s major emotional moments between these 3 character, I can’t buy that excuse. I really want them to actually seem like actual friends, since they spend a good amount of time together either on a pelican or talking on comms.
I do enjoy the overall characterization of Chief in this game. He seems slightly more friendly, but not too much it would seem out of character. And I do like that they have actually acknowledged his indoctrination in the games, having him mention that fighting is “his programming” . But beyond those few mentions in dialogue that’s all there is to it, which is both disappointing and understandable. On one hand I am getting tired of Halo trying to act like it’s core has always been deep emotional storytelling, when it’s truly been badass characters and cool combat, and I know they can’t go full force on topics like these, but I still find it frustrating they only tease the concept of him trying to acknowledge his indoctrination and wanting change. His relationship with the Weapon beyond “he cares but is still scared” rings pretty hollow, all they really have is Chief acting like a semi-distant uncle to the Weapon. Caring when something seems to go wrong, but otherwise quiet and letting her do all the talking with his occasional sarcastic or witty remark. And , they can only reuse infamous Cortana lines such as “they’ll pair you with another AI” so many times before we get tired of it, especially when they don’t actually explore the ramifications of lines like those beyond “Chief doesn’t want a second rampant Cortana”.
I think a majority of the bosses and enemies to be lackluster at best. The new leader of the Banished, Escharum, is especially disappointing. To me, he rings out as another “Your humanity make you weak and stupid but I am strong” type villain, which I frankly find boring and done to death, and they don’t execute it well enough to have him play off of Chief as a parallel, which I think they were trying to do right after you killed him. The other main baddie, The Harbinger, honestly just confused me. The whole time she was showing up I was just thinking what she even was. She was preachy and annoying and I just really wanted her to shut up about how evil the Forerunners were and how the Endless are so good and cool and need to come back. I think setting up some species of alien that we never heard of and that were so bad they were sealed, to be a really cheap move just to set up a sequel to show us what the Endless actually are.
The Gameplay-
The gameplay is fun! It really shines in the open world when you’re doing something like reclaiming an FOB or fighting your way to a collectible. But once you get inside cramped areas like Forerunner levels I think it starts to show it’s backside a little bit, being inside really hampers your ability to move around, which is what really was the best part of open world combat. Being able to grapple to advantage points or pull fusion coils towards me made me feel like I am much more in control of the battle than the battle has control over me, but narrow Forerunner hallways and cramped Banished corridors really kill your maneuverability. I really didn’t ever feel the need to change away from the grappleshot though, even if it was harder to use in narrow spaces. Once I upgraded it with the shock capabilities I would just throw myself at enemies and then melee them, I never used abilities like boost or drop wall, and can only think of twice when I used the sensor.
But the guns feel really good to use! I think the sound design is spot on and makes you feel powerful, especially when you’re using the special unbound weapons that you get off of mini-bosses on the open world. I think being able to pick up energy similar to ammunition was actually a really good change, and certainly saved my behind in several sticky situations. The new ammo type of shock was also an interesting addition, I like the concept of it, but I honestly didn’t find much use of it in practice, except to try and pick off groups of skimmers or grunts.
I think the bosses are the lowest point of the whole game, but especially gameplay wise. They kill any flow you had, since they usually have or appear right after a cutscene. You barely have any time to prepare, the only boss I was able to have a weapon on hand to deal with was bassus (by accident) since I had gotten the arcane sentinel beam at a FOB to beat his level with. But they just, aren’t fun. They usually can kill you in a few good hits, even on normal, there’s usually not a lot of space to move around or cover to hide behind, and they’re very cookie cutter. You’ve got great bosses like, a brute with a hammer, a brute with a chopper, a brute with a ravaged, the sub-monitor..twice, elites who go invisible. Bosses like the sub-monitor and Harbinger were especially frustrating to me, having to stop what I’m doing to deal with the waves of enemies they summon, or their special places you have to hit. It still baffles me they decided to bring back bosses AGAIN, after being one of the most controversial parts of the games they were in (besides the whole story of 5), and I seriously wish they’d just get the hint at this point. They’re not fun! Especially on the higher difficulties, they just seem to become impossible without doing some glitches.
Final Thoughts-
I think Halo Infinite has really high highs and really low lows. Grappling across beautiful lakes and mountains? Really good! Fighting that fucking sub-monitor again? Bad! Annoying! I really wish Infinite was more consistent, but I do still enjoy it. I know I’m going to do a second or third play-through to make sure I get everything like the skulls and audio logs, but part of that is more out of obligation for the achievements than genuine desire to scour the levels and the world at this point. The game is honestly kind of confusing and feels like two separate games at points, but I suppose it’s a step in the right direction, sorta. I won’t be staying up at night wondering what the next story on Zeta Halo is gonna be, but I’ll keep an eye out.

Ok I’m going to give you 9, 12 & 16 for the prompts I’m curious how you’d answer these. 😁
It took me ages to reply to this – sorry! But thank you very much for your questions! :) I really enjoyed answering them.
9 (share a flat with Queenie and Tina or Newt and Theseus): I truly love Newt (I might even say I’m in love), and I also like Theseus a lot. The problem is, no matter how much these two love each other (they do), I am convinced that it would be an absolute disaster if they were forced to share a flat. And I don’t want to be caught in the middle of that. So it’s the Goldsteins for me! I wouldn’t be too happy with Queenie reading my mind, but since she does that every day with random strangers, she is probably used to a lot of weirdness and human abysses. Let’s hope I’m just an average strange person. :D (Should this really be my goal? Idk.) But I imagine I would get along with Tina very well. We would need some time to get accustomed to each other I suppose since we are both not the most outgoing people but I believe Tina is a true friend to those who win her heart. I admire her dedication, courage and strength. – And also, if I lived with the Goldsteins, I would never have to worry about the cooking again. The food with Tina and Queenie will definitely be better than with Newt and Theseus. :D
12 (a special memory connected to FB): To watch the premiere or CoG, I needed to take the train to another city (because the cinema in my town wouldn’t show it on the release date but it was clear I couldn’t wait any longer). The film started at midnight and when it was, I had missed the last train back home. So I stayed with a friend and went to bed at half past three, only to get up again at six to take the train back and be on time for my lecture! (Spoiler: It wasn’t worth it. The lecture, I mean. Taking the train to go to the premiere is something I would totally do again! If they would do us the favour and release the third part in a future that is near enough that mankind still uses trains to get from A to B…)
16 (favourite fan theory): Probably the one saying that Credence’s Obscurus is somehow connected to Ariana’s. I think it’s a rather elegant way to solve the problem of Credence being “a Dumbledore” because I don’t believe he is actually related to the Dumbledores. But it would be so very unsatisfying if Grindelwald’s great reveal had been nothing but a lie. The whole second film was practically concerned with the question “Who is Credence?”. They can’t just fob us off with an outright lie, there has to some truth in it! (At least that’s what I hope…)

I think going off of MANIA and people saying it’s a bad album I think they kinda knew people wouldn’t “get” it… and that’s why they put Wilson (Expensive Mistakes) on there and like. “if I could get my shit together I’m gonna run away and never see any of you again” and “I became such a strange shape from trying to fit in” and in the music video they are literally SELLING themselves (out) like!!! Their brains I can’t
But I think that song has a lot of similarities to Thriller like “crowds are won and lost and won again but our hearts beat for the die hards” —> “There’s nothing more cruel to be loved by everybody but you” kinda feels connected to me in a way I can’t exactly explain. Idk. I feel like Wilson is also a hodgepodge of a lot of different stuff so it’s difficult to glean a meaning from it but I do feel like it’s trying to do what Thriller (and also The Take Over, Breaks Over tbh) was doing, a “fuck you, I’m changing my sound AGAIN, you all make me want to run away bc you can’t handle change for one second, life is chaos ANYWAY, let me be chaotic to help me deal” and idk. I feel like it’s the natural progression from those IOH songs, like “at this point I’m done with this shit, I’m too old to care, I’m not staying the same for your comfort”. I think that’s SUCH an important song on the album tho for that reason when they did like a full 180 from SRAR and AB/AP which were more similar than they were different in that they were both more mainstream pop rock albums for the most part. Like if FOB was just trying to cash in on trends lmao they would’ve done the EDM thing a lottt earlier since it was a lot bigger at the time they were doing the pop rock shtick in like 2013-2016. Which idk. I guess they’re still fundamentally pop rock but u know what I mean, they bent genre a lot for MANIA In ways they didn’t for the prior two albums.
Also I hope you are feeling better :)
1) im not quite better yet as you may be able to tell from my still being up at almost 2am but getting there
2) idk what to say except rt^ like id say fall out boy is, on average, alt rock, just because they pull from so many different genres that it feels limiting to pick any one prefix but ultimately fall out boy is fall out boy. they do what they want when they want and if their fans want to come along for the ride were welcome to. were also welcome to express dissatisfaction (iirc once a fan told patrick she was personally disappointed with his ep and he paid her back right then and there) so when they said "crowds are won and lost and won again but our hearts beat for the diehards" they really meant it.
i think youre right in saying mania is a more mature version of ioh, i feel like they both approach fame and mental illness, but they put emphasis in different places. ioh focuses on fame, because when youre young youre kind of a mirror and what people think of you matters a lot no matter what. but mania focuses on mental health because fame is just a part of life now, and when you get older you (should) learn that other people arent you, and you dont Have to take their opinion into account.

if ppl start acting like the musicians on petes label are actually good....
What I'm about to say is about C/arr only but I did not enjoy her set. I had no opinions about her going into the concert at all so I had zero expectations. I have massively enjoyed almost all of FOB's other openers over the years I've seen so I expected to enjoy this too. I also would not be posting this or saying anything and I would have kept my opinion to myself if it were not for the blow-up dolls.
And I want to preface this by saying the mix was also not good which was probably not her fault, and maybe I would have a different opinion of the set if the mix was better. It was very difficult to hear the vocal line at all and it was difficult to pick out anything except a word here or there. So because of that, I just had to focus on the other elements of the show.
But anyway, to start off with. I'm pretty sure this was during C/arr's set but it applies to Royal's backing band too. As clarification, I think Royal is a great performer, I enjoy her music, her feature on that Demi Lovato song is amazing, and I thought the costumes during her performance at the Cincinnati show and the way they worked with her set were impressively well-thought out.
But the guys in the backing band, especially C/arr's backing band, were overacting to the point where it was very distracting and it was clear they were doing stuff that looked cool in photos but did not match the caliber of what they were performing or what was actually being played. I know I said I couldn't hear WELL, but I could hear plenty enough to know it was weird.
I'm not a kid or stupid so I know this is a performance and that's showbiz. But the thing that pushed it over the line from cringy into "unpleasant to watch" was that whenever the photographers came out, one of the guys would start really obviously lip syncing to words that were not even close to what was actually being sung to get a better shot. Like she wouldn't be singing anything and he wouldn't be near the microphone but if a photographer got close he would start passionately mouthing words. I also was under the impression the instrument stuff equally overacted, but I am not a musician or like a professional or anything.
In any case, I found it unsettling and it made me feel gross and skeeved out that I had paid so much money to see Pete Wentz when he was trying to sell this crap and it was embarrassing to watch, but I already knew that about him so whatever.
But the blow-up dolls elevated Ca/rr's performance from "whatever opener with bad sound quality I'd forget in a week" to "One of the worst sets I've ever sat through" The blow-up dolls were way too heavy, I got hit directly in the head with one, it really hurt, and it knocked my tiara off. Granted, I am wimpier than the average person but they legitimately fucking hurt to get hit with, no one was responding well to them, and one of my mutuals who attended a different show and is like a bigger dude also complained to me unprompted about how much it hurt to get hit with them.
I also was not a fan of the whole "shirt that said daddy on it plus a tutu" thing that was going on, I get that music/aesthetic can be cool and fun and it's part of artistic expression and everyone has their own style and I like plenty of artists who have explicit lyrics or wear costumes, like I love Emo Boy by Ayesha Erotica or and Bathroom Bitch by Holychild. I am not trying to moralize here. There are just good costumes and good sets and good sound and good backing bands and good props then then are bad ones. Also, I'm not going to pretend that Pete didn't wear that one Halloween costume that one time.
I'm unsure if she was acting or not and if it was intended to be part of the performance but her attitude was kind of unpleasant and at my show she seemed mad the audience was not responding well and it made the blow up doll thing feel more vindictive than something intended to be entertaining that backfired, but again, she may have been acting as part of the performance or upset about the sound quality.
I get why they could think stuff like the blow up dolls are cool because Hey Chris would throw blow-up sex dolls into the audience and stuff like that is like in videos of early FOB sets or whatever. And I get Pete has always thought that it's funny to throw things at people and he legitimately has always been very into like certain reality TV stuff or whatever so I can get why he would think stuff like this would go over well but I did not think this was an enjoyable set to watch and I feel confident in saying everyone around me felt the same way.
You are not Hey Chris, and this isn't a $5 Arma Angelus concert at a bowling alley, this is a concert that cost $1k and a good chunk of PTO to see, which, if you live the kind of the life where you "never had any goals of being a singer" but still "get introduced" to celebrities anyway, that probably doesn't mean anything.
But if I wanted to have people throw heavy objects at my head on purpose I would go back to high school gym class. I would not ever want to experience that at a show like this.
To clarify, I understand shit happens at concerts and you can get hit or hurt or whatever but I have attended over 60 and seen Fall Out Boy 5 other times, including many where inflatables were used or there was stuff like crowdsurfing/wall of death/moshing. I've participated in all of that and always really enjoyed it, and I've also been more seriously injured at shows and been fine with it because it certain expectations were set in advance.
I've seen other really bad shows too, but the blow up dolls were maybe in the top 3 worst concert elements I've experienced ever. Fall Out Boy used inflatables during their set as well but they weighed probably less than a third of what the blow up dolls did and were also fully inflated. I did not feel how heavy the blow up dolls were was situationally appropriate for this kind of show. The pit was also the smallest arena pit I've ever been in so there was nowhere for them to go.
BTW, as comparison-- Bring Me The Horizon also performed that night. I had no opinion of them going into it and hadn't heard any of their songs either but I have nothing but amazing things to say about their performance. It sounds like their shows are usually a lot heavier with moshing and the Wall of Death and stuff. It was clear they knew what the expectations that had been set for this tour were, and they put a lot of thought and care into modifying their usual set and aesthetic into something that Fall Out Boy's fans were going to love.
It was phenomenal, I enjoyed the whole thing, and I was so impressed with how much they clearly cared about and respected FOB's fans that I will always have a soft spot for the band now. Fall Out Boy have always had openers from lots of different genres and they normally do great, but the first opener was not it.

@alwaysanoriginal thank u sm for the tag Char!!! And it’s technically after midnight so Ik it’s not ur bday anymore but happy bday again <3 sorry I took like 2 weeks to get to this lmao
RULES: Answer 30 questions and tag 20 blogs you are contractually obligated to know better.
(^ clearly I do not follow the rules because oh my God I am not tagging 20 people but I copy and pasted the rules anyway)
^^keeping what Char said however I have no shame and absolutely will tag 20 people. Don’t feel like you have to do it tho!
Name/Nickname: Cherish, I generally don’t go by nicknames but I have had friends call me Cheroosh, Cherie, and once upon a time this douchebag in middle school tried to be way too chummy and said “cherbear.” Unfortunately I actually think this is cute but he was annoying so if anyone wants to reclaim that for me be my guest <3
Gender: female, she/her
Star sign: Taurus (I don’t follow astrology stuff but I am happy w/ this in a vague sense)
Height: 5′8″ / 172.72 cm
Time: right now?? 12:18 AM baybeee
Birthday: April 26th! It is fast approaching and I shall be 21
Favorite bands: this will be hard and far from a comprehensive list. Muse. Saint Motel. FOB. AJR. Florence and the Machine. Green Day. The Hot Sardines. Queen. The Regrettes. Uhh, this feels like a unique thing to mention here so I also still like and listen to some songs by Chameleon Circuit, a band that made music inspired by Doctor Who.
Favorite solo artists: seconding what I said before but here we go: MIKA, Lizzo, Mitski, Hozier, Janelle Monáe, Watsky, uh Daft Punk is technically a duo but they’re not a band and I gotta mention them
Song stuck in my head: I’ll give you two. At the time of being tagged it was "Runs in the Family” by Amanda Palmer because of this amv and currently it is “What the Hell,” by Avril Lavigne because of this one
Last movie: Space Sweepers with my friend Cindy :))) It’s space found family and has a really cool universal translator thing b/c sci-fi that has sooo many languages in the film including Nigerian Pidgin!!!
Last show: in full? Wandavision. in part? I watched the first episode of the new pacrim anime :/
When did I create this blog: 2014...yes I’ll admit it I was once superwholock.
What I post: whatever I want catered to an audience of me 😌 currently that consists of predominantly SPN renaissance posting, some more recent occasional personal sharing, the old guard, writing and poetry I like, memes, etc
Last thing googled: not counting the cm thing so “was this song used in a movie” (trying to find if there was a site for that sort of thing)
Other blogs: I have some saved URLs but honestly I don’t have the energy to maintain multiple blogs. it’s all on main baybee!
Do I get asks: rarely but sometimes! ty to those who sent me desticule asks yesterday  <3 Ily
Why I chose my url: as I admitted before I joined in superwholock era (tho admittedly I began spn after starting my blog im pretty sure) and I couldn’t decide upon a URL that mashed together all the things I cared about so that-one-fandom-chick was born because it was an umbrella thing
Following: uhhhhh...1695....I’ve been meaning to go through and clear this out b/c some are def defunct and I followed a bunch of new ones in the aforementioned spn renaissance
Followers: 788. I’m a relatively small blog in my corner of the internet I think? Plus tbh  like 200 of these have been since Nov 5th lmao when I turned full spn blog
Average hours of sleep: according to my Fitbit, currently 7h 8min. would prefer 8+
Lucky number: big fan of the first few multiples of 7, in particular 7, 14, and 21. I like 64 quite a bit, and thanks to my sister, also 11
Instruments: :/// I wish. I have a keyboard and took like a month of lessons as a child and have tried and failed to teach myself at least 3x. It taunts me. I will try again one day. For now I can kinda play Charlie Brown theme one hand at a time, still memorized from early childhood.
What am I wearing: My comfy pair of pants that look like a bowling alley floor, fuzzy socks, a periodic table pun t-shirt, and a purple Comfy aka this thing for the uninitiated
Dream trip: keeping the diff versions from Char: 1. also a road trip with friends across America (preferably with a playlist including Fragments of Time - Daft Punk) 2. One of my childhood history obsessions was Pompeii. I would like to see it. 3. Literally almost anywhere outside of the US. I have not left it except for a few trips to Canada since I’m right at the border.
Favorite food: I have very simple tastes. I love my mom’s holiday baked mac & chz w/ bacon <3
Nationality: American
Favorite song: no ♥️ (also keeping this from Char lmao) One that I always love the vibe of tho is So it Goes by Hi-Lo Jack
Last book read: :(((( this makes me sad b/c I read a lot but I’m actually in a reading drought rn b/c I got stuck on a book and I’m a completionist. Technically still reading The Immortalists by Chloe Benjamin, but soon to begin a book club with Neuromancer by William Gibson
Top three fictional universes I’d like to live in: Star Trek PLEASE. One where magic is real, maybe the Graceling universe? Gimme a special ability and heterochromia. Tbh I haven’t thought about this much but I want space and magic so whatever gives me that. Since I’m very into superheroes and the prior statement I will also say maybe Marvel.
Favorite color: Yellow 💛
If you actually read this all, hi ily <3 say hi :) this was an excellent way to stay up much later than I should’ve!
