there’s this guy on deviantart called “A-Jaller” and he made this cursed image
Tumblr media
He also made this image…
Tumblr media
(Idk what the Russian says, but I’m too scared to find out.)
The first image was part 3 in a series of images that this A-Jaller fellow made where Jaller is bribed by Takua into eating a Krana. (Like wouldn’t that give you barf seizures?) Takua is then bribed in this image to LITERALLY EAT THE AVOHKII!!!
If you wanna’ see some weird bionicle art, I recommend checking him out for yourself.

My Avohkii collection has gained another Kanohi! I need to build more Takanuvas to wear them. 😃

This is a gold Shadow Avohkii, made by Buryu's Forge!

I shrunk my model of the Great Kenohi Avohkii to keychain size. I printed a bunch, think I should hand these out at RICC with my Turaga Vakama cosplay?

The other end of the spectrum from yesterday: the LAST Bionicle set of my "childhood."
Tumblr media
"Childhood" in quotes, because I was, like, 23.
My Dark Age arrived with a long slide starting around 2004 but it was pretty much official when I moved from Canada to the States for grad school, and I sold off something like half to two-thirds of my sets to my little brothers.
Takanuva was the only Bionicle set I bought new after that, an impulse buy helped by him being on sale and me being somewhat sad, even in my Dark Age, that Bionicle had ended. I never had the original Takanuva (let alone the 08 titan), even though 2003 was the zenith of my fandom, so it was a bittersweet "well, at least I've got one now" moment for me, living abroad with a sharp break from my past.
I've never done much with him: he's always been on the edge, a canister opened once or twice a year, fiddles with, and put back--even since my Bionicle renaissance began. He's kind of comforting: a little candle who kept the fandom flame lit.

AU where immediately after grabbing the Kanohi Avohkii out of the lava Takua promptly fumbles, drops it again, trips while trying to catch it, and then proceeds to face plant directly onto the mask.
Search for the seventh Toa speedrun complete :P
“But I can still compete in the kolhii match, right?” he asks, causing Jaller and Vakama to both just immediately facepalm themselves. Vakama resigns himself to substituting Kapura in his place; he either takes the entire match to move a single step or he does his quick travel thing and wins in under ten seconds.
Either way, Vakama is completely exasperated by the day’s events and 10000000% done.

While the rest of the Toa Nuva were created as Toa, Takanuva had to become a Toa. Originally he was a Matoran named Takua the Chronicer an adventurous little wanderer who traveled the lands of Mata Nui seeking stories and never thought he would be the subject of one. However Takua was not just any matoran, he was the First Matoran ever created and an Av-Matoran (Light element) to boot, though he would not remember this fact having had his memories wiped and being a frequent amnesiac.
Av-Matorans are the precursors to other matoran, one of the major differences is that to a limited degree Av-Matorans have some small access to their elemental powers such as the ability to manipulate light in order to change colors and blend in among any Matoran tribe. This particular trick came in handy suddenly when in order to try to prevent there from ever being a Toa of Light The Makuta tried to genocide the Av-Matoran since as beings of Shadow their natural weakness would be a being of Light, so as a protective measure the Av-Matorans minds were wiped and were hidden.
Though theoretically wiser, braver, and more responsible Takanuva still retains many of the same traits he had as Takua; Adventurous, Curious, and one of most chaotic, trouble making and thrill seeking Toa in the Matoran Universe. Takanuva was also notorious for not being able to keep secrets, and actively refused to heed the Turaga when they asked him to keep knowledge of Mata Nui’s failing health a secret from the Matoran.
The Kanohi Avohkii the Mask of Light is one of the few Elemental Masks giving its wearer Light Element powers (if they are not already a light element being), gave them the power to bring understanding, and allows its user to sense moral light in others.

Every Bionicle mask-power summarised.
Hau: Everything-proof shield
Kaukau: "Hey, wanna see how long I can hold my breath underwater?"
Miru: Somewhat balanced flight powers (can't take off from a standstill; horizontal movement at least somewhat controlled by wind)
Kakama: Wheeeeeeeee!
Pakari: Kinda like the Berserk Pack from Doom
Akaku: X-ray specs
Huna: Stealth mode
Rau: Google Translate
Mahiki: Illusions, but also just full-on shapeshifting for some reason?
Komau: Hypnotism kink
Ruru: "Night vision", which canonically manifests as a torch-like beam projected from the mask's front, and gives the wearer actual night-vision, and yet more x-ray stuff
Matatu: Gmod Physgun Telekinesis Addon 2004 No Virus
Calix: Basically X-Cell from Fallout 4 but without the intelligence boost
Elda: Thing finder, for finding things
Suletu: Telepathy and also psychic torture
Sanok: Aimbot
Kadin: Very unbalanced flight powers (literally the only downside is that the user can't hover in place)
Iden: Out of body from morning to night/Dance floor packed and I'm feeling alright
Arthron: *Whale noises*
Faxon: "Hey, wanna see my animal impressions?"
Zatth: Kinda like if going "pspsps" had an equal chance of attracting a cat, a bear or a car-sized land-octopus
Garai: Gravity-y-y-y-y-y, on me/Never let me down, gent-ly damn, two Gorillaz references in one post; I'll try to use another band next time
Volitak: Same as the Huna but worse
Tryna: Wise fwom your gwave!
Jutlin: Rust-vision
Avsa: *Vampire noises*
Felnas: Messes up your abilities, but only through touch for some reason?
Mohtrek: I have no idea how I'd condense this mask's timeline-fuckery into a single se- where did all these scars come from?
Shelek: ‍
Crast: Pushes others away
Mask of Mutation: Guess.
Mask of Scavenging/Vulture: Like the Avsa, but it only works on the recently-deceased
Pehkui: Makes you tiny
Mask of Clairvoyance: The last word of this post will be "diversity"
Kualsi: Nightcrawler powers
Mask of Emulation: "Hey, wanna see my non-animal impressions?"
Mask of Growth: Makes you big
Mask of Rahi Control: Gives you all the powers of a zookeeper
Avohkii: Let there be light!
Kraahkan: Actually I changed my mind; there should darkness
Mask of Psychometry: Ever wondered where your favourite shirt came from?
Rode: Mask of Seeing Through Your Shit
Olmak: Now you're thinking with portals
Mask of Charisma: Actually functions more like brainwashing
Olisi: Isn't it weird how Bionicle's most notable use of the "mad oracle" trope is A. unreliable and B. a giant Frankenstein-man who commits body-horror on random people?
Kiril: Basically the opposite of the Jutlin
Mask of Intangibility: *Ghost noises*
Mask of Possibilities: Essentially the Improbability Drive from Madness Combat, but on a smaller scale
Mask of Elemental Energy: who cares about this one like seriously it barely appears outside the games
Mask of Adaptation: Turns you into an environment-specific action figure
Mask of Aging: The mask that makes you old
Mask of Biomechanics: Essentially the Gmod ragdoll-mover addon
Mask of Conjuring: I'm just going to copy what Biosector says, since it's really convoluted and complex; "The Mask of Conjuring is a Kanohi that allows its user to verbally program a limited power into the mask for a brief period of time. The user must describe in detail the power desired and at least one weakness. If the phrasing is spoken wrong, it causes intense psychic backlash in the user's mind. The user can use a programmed power for fifteen minutes (with a Great version), and after the time is out, the user must wait thirty seconds to activate the mask again. The Noble version will only work for five minutes. Another weakness is because it requires time and speech, any enemies nearby can hear in detail what power to expect and what its weakness is. Because of this, the usage of the mask is more commonly done alone. It is also capable of being programmed with the powers of other masks, such as the Kanohi Hau."
Mask of Freezing: What do you think it does
Mask of Fusion: Combines things • Mask of Healing: Heals stuff
Mask of Incomprehension: 👁️🧠🫵🥫🚹🇮🇹📤
Mask of Rebounding: Something something rubber glue etc.
Mask of Reconstitution: Literally just another Mask of Mutation, but slightly worse
Mask of Sensory Aptitude: 'Cause I've got one two three four five/Senses working o-ver-ti-ime!
Mask of Undeath: I live... again!
Mask of Weather Control: /weather clear 18000
Mask of Weight Increase: Literally just a Garai that can't make things lighter
Ignika: Do-anything MacGuffin that turned into a guy once and also became God's hat for a bit
Vahi: Time isn't holding up/Time isn't after us/Same as it ever was/Same as it ever was...
Mask of Creation: Just kinda lets you make stuff, while also celebrating the Matoran Universe's cultural diversity!

Syntrivi, Toa of Glass and infamous thief.
She was tricky but fun to build. This MOC is based on an older character of mine that I wanted to rebuild since I bought a glitter-clear Avohkii. I wanted to give her a rough, almost "leftover parts" kind of aesthetic, like a forgotten project of some Great Being. She's tribeless, friendless, and has never heard of the Toa code, but still approaches every day with a smile.

Toa Kraakoru the first Toa of Shadow (he/him)
Kraakoru was chosen out of the Kratoran to be the first Toa of shadow for serving on Iron Wolf attacked when working on the GSR. Being one of the early Toran he was made with a full mind so it was believed his mind will be more accepting of the change. The Great Being Anima Textoris, The Soul Weaver, Had Toa Orde give the newly forged Kraahkan and Avohkii with a Toa stone charges. Some of the newer built Toran helped Anima in his Lab in bunker the ruins city of Tanjun. According to the only survivor, a stone worker unit named Po-V311-KA, Kraakoru went mad tearing everyone apart the moment he changed into a Toa. Helryx and Orde hearing the sounds for the lab, quickly came in and ended Kraakoru.
The Kraahkan was taken to Artakha to be re-forged to be given to the Makuta. The Potoran was was deemed functional and sent to work in the GSR. The Great Beings ordered no more Toa of Shadow to be made, Helryx ordered for the Toa round them up and wipe them all out. Most Toa did not agreed with her orders, but began to gather the Kratoran. Toa Nazza asked for some time to try and find a different way to solve the problem. Helryx told Nazza that ze will have the time find a different option. Nazza left with a small group of Kratoran and some of the Toa. When the group returned with the Kratoran that went with them now Avtoran they fond that Helryx gave the order to kill all the Kra right after Nazza and the other left. Helryx created the Toa code for all the Toa that will come after this time to follow, so that a different way, other then death, could be found; but if it can not be found the ancient already tainted with death can step in and end the enemy.

But nothing happened.
I did my best to limp over to Takua, kneeling down to meet his face.
“It won’t work, Takua. There’s… there’s no such thing as Destiny. But it's okay. I’ll slow them down and you get… somewhere safe. That is my duty- as the Historian.” I said, trying to make sure he heard me- truly heard me- and took what I was saying to heart. So that he didn't blame himself, no matter what happened.
 “...And as your friend.”
He stopped, looking down for a brief moment, then back up, surveying the Rahkshi skulking beyond the barrier with fresh eyes. He rose from his kneeling position, and for the briefest of moments, I thought- I hoped- he would run before they found us.
But he turned to sit down in front of the barrier, flipping the Mask of Light around to face him, and folded his legs like we did at the meeting-fire. And with a soft, gentle voice, he began to tell a story.
“...In the time before time, the Great Spirit Mata Nui descended from the heavens, carrying us, the ones who inhabit this world.” “We were separate, weak, and without purpose. So the Great Spirit gifted us with the virtues he and his brothers embodied; Unity, Duty, Destiny.” “Now Unified, the people of this world became whole, forming communities and friendships.” “With Duty we became strong, growing better in the crafts and skills we needed for the day-to-day.” “With Destiny, we had purpose and potential.” “But even with these gifts, dangers and disasters still befell us.” “And so Mata Nui gave us another gift: The Six Spirit Toa, who guarded us for many years, until a few Matoran rose up to aid them in saving others." "Seeing that despite their small stature, the Matoran could do great things, Mata Nui blessed the Matoran and  instructed the Toa to give a piece of their power to the six that aided them. And then a wondrous thing happened- the Matoran gifted the power of the Spirit Toa became Toa themselves!” “But the new and old Toa did not have a long time to celebrate this miracle. With their duty fulfilled, and a new generation of Toa set to protect the people of this world, the Spirit Toa were called back to Mata Nui, returning to the heavens and bidding farewell to their friends on this world, promising to return if they were needed again.” “In time, these new Toa went their separate ways to protect other lands, and inspired other Matoran, each of whom themselves were given a part of this power and became Toa, and in turn inspired more Matoran, sharing this power with more and more with each passing generation.” “Many Toa died in the line of duty, and others couldn’t pass the spark along, as the power had grown weak, or perhaps spread too thin over the generations.” “Only one Toa yet remained where I came from- a Toa of Fire. He was… brave. Straight-laced, and stern at times, but he was friendly, and he protected all of us in Karda Nui for a long, long time.” “But Mata Nui died, suddenly and violently, and that Toa was one of the only ones able to attempt to try and bring the Great Spirit back to life.”
“I’m… I’m not sure what happened next, but Mata Nui, my friend, and his Toa Team all died- but they saved the rest of the world, they made it so that, even with the Great Spirit dead, the rest of the world could live on.”
“But Karda Nui would not. My homeland, too, had to die for the rest of the world to survive.”
“I was pushed into an evacuation pod, which forced me into hibernation before I could do… anything. As it put me deeper and deeper into sleep, I wondered… I dreamt… what I could have done to save my friends, if I could have saved the Toa who gave his life for us.”
“Even if it goes against some great plan, or it isn’t some ordained Destiny… all I want is the chance to help others, like my friends, and the Toa before them. Grant me the power to be who I want to be.”
Takua placed the mask once again on his face, gentler this time.
And the Avohkii shattered in a bright flash, like lightning called down from the heavens, engulfing Takua in the blinding aura.
