please please tell me your thoughts in the reblogs or tags!!! i love hearing other people’s critiques. this is the one time the woso community can all come together and complain about the same thing!

1.Liverpool

potentially a controversial opinion but this is Nice As Hell! i know a lot of people said the collars are ugly but like idk it’s kinda giving if you ask me. it’s bold, it’s a statement. i love retro. this is just a good kit. it’s doing bits without doing too much. simple, tasteful, plus a little subtle pizzazz with those jaunty ass stripes - werk it ladies!

plus this kit is made from recycled plastic bottles, nice job! save those turtles liverpool!

apparently the pattern spells out ynwa, which i’m totally Not seeing (maybe i misunderstood this). i’m getting a Y, and then like an H in there maybe? and then i’m just lost, so not sure you hit the mark with that one, but love you for trying! it’s a cool pattern regardless, so i’d maybe just ditch the whole symbolism jargon and stick with that. overall nice job guys - 9/10

bonus points for that prematch shirt, love the detailing on it very sexy top marks

2. Arsenal

sorry arsenal fans, this shit is ugly as fuckkkkk - i’m not even being biased or trying to start fights (for once) it’s just like so hideous. i didn’t really like last season’s but compared to this that was a masterpiece. it’s so PLAIN! the weird red splodge is like not flattering at all and the blue? what’s that all about? also i fucking hate the back it looks like a used period pad, so hopefully the numbers fix that.

praying for your sakes you get a nice third kit or something bc this is ass.

also i’m a HATER for minimalist badge designs. this cannon logo makes the shirt look like a uniform for a museum volunteer. don’t get me wrong - arsenal is not the only culprit. what has a good old crest ever done to you? why do we hate maximalism? why do we hate fun? - 4/10

3. Manchester City

now this is fine. it’s just fine. it’s objectively nice, but it’s also objectively boring! as! fuck! the solid blue is clean but a little too flat. something looks off. it’s missing something. idk it’s nice ig, but it also seems identical to last season? if i saw these pics with no context i’d literally think it was from this year, but that’s the case with most top tier clubs it seems. have some fun guys! push the boat out! where’s the whimsy? but yeah anyway it’s alright.

at least they tried with the sleeves. allegedly they have the manchester dialling code 0161 on them but i mean - do they? do they really? because it looks like a bus seat to me. city fans decide for yourself i guess, because i for one won’t be getting close enough to a city shirt to look

it’s also made from recycled waste textiles so yay again! probably made from all the city shirts people threw out after they all but fucked the title 🤭 - 7/10

4. Tottenham Hotspur

wow spurs this is nice. it’s just so clean, so crisp. my normal issue with spurs kits is their absolute undying commitment to being plain as fuck. they picked one colour, white - arguably the most boring colour of all, arguably even the total absence of colour - and stuck to it. this however? it’s simplicity done well. it’s still plain and simple, but in a gorgeous sexy way. those navy retro colourblock sleeves? stunning! the crispest white you’ve ever seen? stunning! the tiniest of sleeve embellishments? stunning! simplicity done well. it’s just so crispy. pleases my eye.

also huge respect to them for not jumping of the band wagon with the whole ‘every shirt must have ugly details with symbolic meaning we grasped at straws to come up with in order to do something new and edgy’. spurs said no! they said ‘oh this? yeah this is a football shirt. what does it mean? it means football shirt.’ thanks spurs, good job - 9.5/10

5. Crystal Palace

ummmm. now. hmm. uhh. what? this is, um, what? give me a second to get my thoughts in order. i don’t know what is happening here and i’m at a loss for words.

right. crystal palace. inaugural season in the wsl. making a statement. making a splash. right. here’s the thing. i’m always saying wsl kits are too boring. i’m always saying we want fun patterns and whimsy. i’m looking at this in genuine confusion because i actually do not know what is going on here. do i like it? not sure? do i hate it? also not sure?

i think i kind of like it? but i also kind of hate it? it’s insanely busy, it’s probably the most garish kit i’ve ever seen in my life. i think part of the problem is that the club doesn’t have a great colour palette to work from. it’s very bright. i do love the pattern of the eagle crest in the blue, that’s a huge win from me. it’s just those spray paint red splatters that’s throwing me off. it looks like they spent ages making a lovely blue eagle pattern and then remembered they needed red in there so just used the funky spray tools on microsoft paint to draw over the top. it’s giving shit cgi blood splatter in a low budget zombie film. it’s like the barcelona shirts if they were designed by a gcse art student on an acid trip.

the more i’m looking at it however, i’m kind of loving it? kinda camp i guess. this one could be a grower. i’m still confused. at least they’ll make a splash in the wsl - 6/10

6. Manchester United

you’d think by now that i would have learnt to not get my hopes up with this club. remember the long long list of disappointments from yanited this season that i never shut up about? yeah, add this kit to that list.

listen it’s not awful. it’s not ugly, it’s not an eyesore. at the very least, it’s classic united. but it’s just so! bloody! dull! i’m literally falling asleep looking at it. it’s a t-shirt. its literally just a t-shirt. the problem is they set the bar too high last year, with that beautiful pattern and beautiful shade of red. and now, in proper united style, we’re straight back to mediocrity.

let’s talk details. oh wait, they aren’t ANY. there is nothing to say about this kit because there is nothing going ON with this kit. i like the white stripes. that’s it. theres the ombré red at the bottom, which is like- it’s okay. problem is - there’s like four too many shades of red on this shirt, and none of them are that nice. it needs a pattern or something! a pop! a little pizzazz! not a fan of the curved back panel, but it does look a whole lot better than arsenal’s at least.

this is absolutely nothing groundbreaking but it’s fine. it’s just so fucking plain. i know my girls will still serve in it, but i hoped for more. of course, in true united fashion: it’s the hope that kills you - 6/10

7. Chelsea

the tagline for this release is 'we burn blue', because 'the hottest part of the flame burns blue'. congrats on passing year seven chemistry guys. anyway, with that in mind, this kit is, naturally of course, patterned with a mystery blue LIQUID. im not seeing flames in any part of this kit. literally how is this meant to look like fire. this tagline is pure bollocks. it literally could not look more like water if it tried. aka, the opposite of fire.

the kit itself, i'm honestly struggling to form an opinion. i dont think i hate it, but i dont love it either. it may have been easier to figure out if i could actually SEE the kit in any of the release photos, instead of some stupid fucking slow motion blur effect. this pic makes mayra look like she's undergoing mitosis. poor girl's been through enough. it says a lot that in your official kit release you're actively preventing me from looking at the kit.

its not awful? i'm not a fan of these kind of realistic graphics on kits, just makes it look fake and cheap, but like, idk its kinda cool ig. the more i look the more i'm down with it. the colours are nice. its shiny. i'm glad we've gone for originality at least. patterns are fun. - 7.5/10

8. Brighton

i missed this release bc i saw the pictures and genuinely did not realise it was a different kit oops. i do feel bad for clubs who have committed to a striped kit because honestly there’s not really many ways you can play with that. but also that’s kind of their own fault. there’s really not much you can say about this. the sleeves are white this time… okay… there’s a faint pinstripe down each stripe… okayyy… yep that’s kind of it really.

it’s clean, it’s classic brighton, it’s a decent kit. there’s just genuinely nothing new about this. it’s fine. they just clearly couldn’t be bothered and i respect that. - 6/10

9. West Ham

okay we’re doing turtlenecks now apparently!! interesting choice!! i think it kinda looks fuckass silly but also i kind of like it actually. bit of fun innit. good stripes.

the rest of the kit is pretty mid. plainer than a toast sandwich. except for the sleeves! because this year, not only are they bringing in turtlenecks, west ham have decided to also bring in milkmaid sleeves! why is it like that? like is it just a weird bad fit or have they put a fucking elasticated band on? who’s idea was that? what is going on! also am i having a stroke or has the badge changed colour. because it looks fucking hideous. what did they do that for.

i do love the fact they did this shoot in a pub though. very funny. and the kit isn’t too bad. i like the stripes - 6/10

10. Leicester

this is the plainest most boring kit i have ever seen with my own two eyes. that is literally all i can say about this. boring. much like the city of leicester itself.

however - the women have a different kit sponsor to the men and i respect that so you can have one bonus point - 4/10

11. Everton

i’ll be totally honest - i wasn’t expecting everton to give me like the best kit of the bunch. this is the kit for me. i like this one a lot. castore may be mega shit quality but at least they don’t just copy paste all their kits.

i fucking love the pattern here. it’s subtle but it’s nice! and it’s different! we’re not doing any mad shit like chelsea, we’re not doing absolutely nothing at all like leicester. the perfect middle ground of the blue kits. the sponsor is hideous but i’m ignoring that. this is just lovely to look at. stylish, sleek. it’s giving high quality bus seats. this is no stagecoach, this is private hire only. i just love it. and then to top it all off, just the perfect amount of collar detailing. i would be a happy toffee if i was wearing this. gorgeous. loses half a point because the badge fell off during the game which is hysterical.- 9.5/10

12. Aston Villa

this is just the west ham kit if west ham were normal. it’s nothing to write home about, but i do like it. i like the block sleeves and the stripe colour. i like the subtle stripes down the side. i like the simplicity. i like the collar stripes. i even like the flat badge. also i’m assuming this is a betting sponsor which sucks but i do have to say that the sponsor looks great with this kit. it blends in, which is rare. this is a clean, classic kit, and i’m glad that at least one team could be normal. i don’t like that there’s pretty much nothing i can make fun of here. unfortunate for me, good for villa. good job - 8/10

note - all this was written as soon as each club released their kit, so some of my opinions have changed, and a lot have grown on me (looking at you united), but i’ve left the review untouched so you can get purely my honest first impression.

Jordan looked at the multiple missed messages and calls from Leah. It surprised her, to be fair. She’d never seen Leah so persistent. She felt bad for not replying, of course, but it had only been a day, and tomorrow was game day. She needed to sleep, so put her phone on her beside table and laid down, drifting off due to stress more than anything else.

*Dream*

“Jordan!”

Jordan’s head turned towards the noise in the other room.

“My apartment is not that big so she should be able to hear me. Jordan!”

Jordan wandered towards the noise. “Yeah?”

She stuck her head in the room to see Leah in front of her phone, on her live with Alex Scott. They bantered a little between the two before Leah turned to Jordan and grinned as she entered the room. “You’re getting a lot of requests.”

“Get Jordan in the live stream!” Alex said through the phone.

Jordan was hesitant, nervous of live videos as they were just that. Live. Leah shuffled over as she saw Jordan approaching, giving her a look that was amused at her obvious nerves.

“Here she is, here she is!” Alex gushed excitedly and Jordan gave an excuse as she ducked down into view of the camera. She smiled and could feel the red in her cheeks.

She gave an awkward wave to the camera. “Hello! Give us a chair then.” The last part was directed at Leah who stood and gave her chair to her, finding another one elsewhere.

“You know, sometimes you need to like, have a break from your work and then you’ll go back fresh.”

“This is the first time ever I’m trying to do work.”

Leah chuckled at that and sat down, deliberately sitting so close that their arms were against each other. It was Leah’s way of supporting Jordan knowing just how nervous she was. As the conversation went on, Jordan became more aware of just how many people were watching and tried to control those nerves. Below the camera’s view, Leah’s hand found her thigh, which immediately stopped her leg unconsciously bouncing, and her thumb stroked her slowly which calmed her. She leant more into Leah.

Jordan had a few dreams that night. All of Leah. Car rides, dates, nights at home, their little arguments that they had for fun. Training together, living together, cooking together, sharing a life and planning for the future. Blu chasing Leah around their apartment. Leah always being the first at her side when she fell on the pitch. Leah’s lips…

*Dream*

“Is this okay?” Leah whispered, a little breathless.

Jordan nodded and responded just as breathless. “Yeah…”

Leah’s lips met hers for the first time and Jordan couldn’t help but give a little whimper at how soft and gentle they were. Leah’s hand cupped her cheek and Jordan had no clue what hers were doing as the only thing she could think of were Leah’s lips and how they moved against her own. They moved together, explored together, heads tilting and breathing into each other. When their tongues touched, a shiver ran up her spine to her neck and creeped around into a blush.

‘I love you.’ She remembered thinking. ‘I love you. I love you. I love you.’ Jordan hadn’t said it to her right then, but she’d known it for a while and that kiss solidified it for her. She hadn’t said it until weeks after Leah had for the first time. Leah had taken initiative for a lot of their relationship, to be fair, and although Jordan was sleeping, those memories made that hole in her heart feel so much emptier.

“No Jordan.” She mumbled to herself. “Don’t you remember what she did…?”

*Dream*

“W…Why?” Jordan sobbed, tears down her face.

“We’re both adults Jordan, I think we’ve known this was coming for a while.” Leah was stoic and her face unchanged. It was so unlike her.

Jordan hadn’t felt that at all. “I didn’t know…” she whispered, her tissue dabbing at her eyes dejectedly. She knew Leah had been under stress, but she thought they were happy.

“If this is about me being on the bench-”

“-it’s not.” She cut off harshly. She closed her eyes and Jordan wondered what she was thinking. When she opened her eyes, they were glazed over and she spoke as if reciting a speech. “We aren’t in love with each other anymore. This is all just habit. We both knew this was going to be hard, but we need to just rip the bandage off.”

Leah spoke for the both of them as if trying to convince Jordan of what she said. But it wasn’t true.

“But I am still in love with you…” she whispered, unsure how she was able to get the words out between sobs.

Leah’s eyes flashed to hers and her demeanour broke, her body swaying back and forth as she fought her emotions. Her eyes were red as she fought her tears.

“Don’t do this, Leah.”

“I don’t have a choice.”

Jordan could see in her eyes that she actually believed that, but she took it the wrong way. She assumed she meant that she didn’t love her anymore, that she was breaking her heart because she’d been so unhappy for so long and Jordan hadn’t known. So Jordan sobbed and nodded, accepting that Leah didn’t want her anymore. Blu in one arm and her last duffle over her shoulder, she walked out of Leah’s apartment.

“Take care of yourself Leah.”

If only Jordan knew the actual reason Leah had lied..

Jordan bolted upright in her bed, realising she’d been crying in her sleep. Why wouldn’t the memories just disappear? She looked at the time. 2am. Jordan didn’t dream much at all, so she was dazed and confused for a little before she forced herself out of bed. She padded out to the kitchen for some water. Blu walked over sleepily, confused because Jordan was out of bed.

“It’s okay little man, I’ll be okay.”

She picked him up and they settled on the couch together, Blu wrapped up in her arms as she pulled a blanket over them and they drifted to sleep again.

*Dream*

“All I’ve ever known of Arsenal is Jordan since I’ve been here.” Leah said. It was the last time Jordan and Leah had seen each other besides from a distance in Jordan’s last days at Arsenal. They hadn’t spoken since, and now it seemed like the final goodbye. Jordan’s decision to leave Arsenal had come after their break-up and although she’d made the decision alone, she had seen Leah’s regretful eyes boring into her from afar every day since she’d announced it. “Along with a few others, Jordan is one of the reasons that we are still at the top level today and the reason that we’re still competing for trophies. Without her staying when a lot of other people didn’t, this club would have…would have been very different today and I just think it’s important as players and as fellow teammates but also just professionally to recognise what Jordan has actually done for us. She’s literally given heart and soul for Arsenal from minute one until the end and I just think if I had a legacy like that to leave behind then I’d be very proud of it, but also just to be respected from my teammates and I know how much and I want to say on behalf of everybody because we all respect you so much and to lose you…yeah… feels like a bit of Arsenal is leaving as well so I just think I want to say on behalf of everybody, but from me as well, that you’re obviously a legend.”

Leah spoke fast, to avoid breaking down as she spoke. Jordan heard the emotion coming through as her voice wavered. Leah was never emotional when she spoke, so it hit harder than usual. Her words were so kind and final, it really did feel like the end. Jordan was continuously wiping her never-ending tears away with the cuff of her jumper as she listened. Katie rubbed her arm beside her as she wiped her own tears away.

For most of her speech, Leah wasn’t looking at Jordan, her eyes only flickering her way sometimes. Right now, however, her full attention was on her.

“I’m actually getting upset which is hard.” She admitted, her hand over her heart and a soft laugh to cover her pain.

They all clapped as Jordan stood teary eyed and accepted the bouquet of flowers that was almost the size of her. She felt movement behind her and turned towards Leah who gripped an arm around her shoulders tightly, pulling her close.

“I’m going to miss you.” She said just soft enough for Jordan to hear. “I’ll always be proud of you.”

Her head dipped down and Jordan was unsure if her lips touched her shoulder, but she didn't care in that moment. All she felt was loss and pain. Her partner, and now her club. Leah backed away and Jordan knew she had to speak then.

“Um…I did think I was going to leave by just saying hi, bye and grabbing my bags,” she joked as she put down the flowers. “…so I have absolutely no words. Um…obviously Arsenal’s just been like not just football but my home for twelve years and I think I’ve met some of the best people in my life at this club.” She barely managed to get the words out, stumbling over the last as she fought a sob, Katie’s expression pushing her over that edge. “Sorry..” Her head fell forwards to stare at the ground in an attempt to ground herself while her hands nervously played with her clothes.

“You can do it.” One of the girls supported.

“Come on.”

She took a deep breath. “I just couldn’t have done it without all of the girls over the years but I think this team have been…like the best team I’ve ever been with. I’ve met best friends for life and wearing that Arsenal shirt is the proudest moment of your life and it’s such a big club that…um you know obviously I’m gutted that I…I won’t been wearing it anymore but…I just love you’s all and I want you to win the league and go smash it…but yeah. Today’s a tough day and I’m sorry that I’m blubbering everywhere.”

She wiped her emotions away again and nodded. Twelve years of her life at Arsenal. Seven years with Leah. That was the end of that.

The doorbell ringing woke Jordan with a start, which in turn woke Blu who began barking.

“It’s okay, mate. We just slept in a little.” She comforted as she scrambled to her bedroom for a hoody as a shirt with no bra didn’t feel like enough. She grabbed her phone on the way out and looked at the multiple messages, missed calls and notifications that lit up her phone. It was a little more than usual, as Leah was still being persistent. She groaned, feeling like she’d had the worst sleep with her ceaseless dreams of memories. The doorbell rang again with knocking this time.

“Coming!!”

She opened the one text message she wanted to on her way to the front door.

YFN: Boarding now. I’ll call you when I land about 11:30am. Love you!

She smiled at that and pocketed her phone as she opened the door. “God, I’m so sorry…” she trailed off as she tried to see who she was talking to, but she couldn't behind the colours.

“Flower delivery, can I come in?”

“Uh…sure…”

Jordan stepped aside as three men in uniforms entered the house with so many different flowers, she didn’t know where to look. She was happy she’d grabbed a hoodie. Blu looked a little distressed at the intrusion, so she picked him up and patted him until he calmed a little. She was unsure who was calming who more.

The delivery men set the flowers up along the kitchen counter, two on the dining table and one on the coffee table.

They smiled as the exited, the last man handing her an envelope on the way out with a smile that said he was happy for her. She followed him to the door and closed it behind him, returning to the now very colourful apartment of hers.

“Well at least the peace lily isn’t alone anymore…” she murmured as she put Blu back down.

She had an idea of who the flowers were from, but the card inside the envelope confirmed it.

Jord,

I made a mistake on Friday night. I knew better, I was just so desperate to have you close again.

That was my fault, and the last fault I’ll make.

I’ll earn your trust and love back, I promise.

I’ll go slow from now on. No more mistakes.

I’m not going anywhere, ever again, unless you ask for it.

I love you. I always have, I always will.

lfg! sorry this took ages everyone blame aston villa.

1. Crystal Palace

this kit's called eagle yellow, because, that’s famously what colour eagles are. duh. but its not too bad. i like the pattern. is it a bird? is it a plane? oh wait no, it is a bird! nice one- 6/10

2. Arsenal

sorry, WHY am i seeing people everywhere hating this? this is fucking nice??? hello??? are all arsenal fans blind?? (answer yes they are)

this colour scheme eats. stop calling it lynx africa. if you prefer that stella mccartney pastel baby shower monstrosity over this, literally do not talk to me - 7.5/10

(side note; this would be the perfect opportunity for me to bring up how heinous it is that arsenal women is so white, which sits even less well in the context of this shirt, but i'll save that for another post)

3. Manchester United

did it just get chilly in here? because this shit is COLD. united just dropped the sickest chelsea kit of all time. (joke)

just obsessed. manchester is blue but only when we say it is. silver details, retro collar, a huge M all over the shirt. M for More Please! nothing else to say except that this is going directly in my basket. adidas you ate - 10/10

4. Manchester City

absolutely fucking disgusting that- 2/10

5. West Ham

it’s black so it’s automatically good. absolutely love love love the pattern of the buildings. an architect's dream - 8/10

6. Leicester City

love the colour scheme, but somethings falling a bit flat. looks like someone spilled bleach on it - 4/10

7. Tottenham Hotspur

two words: gorge and us. city wishes they had this kit. beach towel eleganza. god it’s just so nice. it’s giving corduroy. - 10/10

8. Aston Villa

wow! this was worth the wait! (seriously villa speed it up i've been waiting on this for months) - genuinely looks clean as fuck, love how well its goes with the home too. very girlypop - 7/10

9. Brighton and Hove Albion

it’s the best out of the yellow kits i’ll give them that. looks like a cartoon notepad. i wanna write my shopping list on it - 6/10

10. Chelsea

no chelsea, putting ‘guava ice orange’ on this shirt won’t change the fact that it’s literally just the england kit. that being said i do like the england kit so - 6/10

11. Liverpool

what a lovely wetsuit. clean though. scuba diver core - 5/10

12. Everton

black kits really are in this season huh? big fan of this one. sexy pattern. black and yellow always eats. barry b. benson would love this. - 7/10
