A bucket list item of mine was to try Palestinian food, and today I did that. My family and I went to a restaurant called Ayat NYC. We went to their Staten Island location. And they don't shy away from being political. They have "down with the occupation" and "from the river to the sea" written on their menus. The host was wearing a kiffiyeh around his shoulders. The art was beautiful. The wood burning oven was shaped like Al Aqsa Mosque.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
As for the food, I think I copped out to the inner white girl in my head and had a pasta dish called Hebron Harvest Rigatoni. But the menu assures it's made Palestinian style with Palestinian ingredients. I had a mocktail called Hebron Hibiscus Spritz. They gave us complimentary baklava at the end.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
It was a full house when we went. I'm coming on 11 years living in Staten Island and I had no idea so many Arabs lived here. I thought they were all in Brooklyn and Queens. Speaking of, Ayat NYC has two other locations in Brooklyn. One in Sunset Park and one in Bay Ridge.
No, I'm not getting paid for this post. Seeing Palestinians thrive is it's own reward.

A Palestinian restaurant in NYC recently opened to some bad reviews – and it's all because of its antisemitic menu.
"Ayat" eatery – which had three locations in the Big Apple -- opened a fourth last week in the largely Jewish Bay Ridge section of Brooklyn, upsetting many of the patrons with the offensive language on the menu.
Tumblr media
The phrases "from the river to the sea" and "down with the occupation" were scrawled across the menus handed out to fuming customers, who later went on Facebook to blast Ayat's owners for being "openly genocidal."
Tumblr media
Of course, everyone knows the slogan "from the river to the sea" has been used as a rallying cry to wipe out Israel. The anti-Defamation League has even labeled the phrase antisemitic.
But, Ayat's owners – Abdul Elenani and his wife, Masoud – chalked it off to a misunderstanding, saying they have "no ill will" toward Jewish people.
Tumblr media
In a Facebook post, Abdul wrote that "our interpretation on it is just simply freedom and rights to the Palestinian people between the Jordan River and Mediterranean Sea." He added, "We're just against the Zionist mentality of, like, eliminate or flatten now."

This is stupid. What has Masoud ever done to these reviewers? It would be one thing if he were passing out the baklawa to celebrate Hamas war crimes, but he’s just operating a restaurant. Why drag him down for that?
In fact, go there. Support and enjoy Palestinian food, culture, entrepreneurship that has nothing to do with ethnic, religious, or territorial conflict. Be a human being to him, just as he is a human being.

Sang Kolektor - Tadabbur Al-Kahf 7
Huwa khayrun mimmaa yajma’uun (QS Yunus 10:58).
Grahame Fowler mengoleksi lebih dari 60 arloji. Sebagian besarnya adalah Rolex. Masing-masingnya punya cerita. Punya nilai sejarah. Bahkan pria asal New York City ini berkomentar, “They speak to you spiritually.”
Anne Huntington juga tinggal di NYC. Kolektor juga? Ya.  Seni fotografi kontemporer. Dia mengaku bahwa dia tidak pernah berhenti mengoleksi. (more…)

I don't really follow anyone because I'm weird and I like a clean dashboard and because I enjoy "discovering" by obsessively going through blogs and reblogging material. It’s really a compulsive clean dashboard thing. I will always check up on a blog personally if I like it. This outstandingly beautiful handcrafted Moroccan Hamsa with free hanging center panel has a hand-engraved inscription of Ayat al-Kursi, or the Throne Verse from Surah al-Baqarah of the Qur'an (2:255). The Throne Verse is believed by many Muslims to provide great spiritual benefit to the reciter, as well as protection from both physical and supernatural dangers. #hamsa #moroccanhamsa #handmadehamsa #islamichamsa #islamic #ayatalkursi #throneverse #rarehamsa #handoffatima #surahalbaqarah #quran #prayer #islamicjewelry #islam #muslim #morocco #moroccanjewelry #rare #uniquehamsa #shop #nyc #unionsquare #beadsofparadise (at Beads of Paradise NYC) https://www.instagram.com/p/BvFkQEygzwD/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1c4xunmh1m23v

I had the privilege and honor of meeting Her Majesty, @queenrania of Jordan again…this time in Amman. It is amazing to see the full extent of support that the Kingdom of Jordan has provided during the ongoing Syrian refugee crises. The numbers are staggering and overwhelming but the good work continues day after day. Queen Rania is a true inspiration. Her tireless efforts to help those in need comes straight from the heart and has always been consistent.. as a UNICEF Eminent Advocate for Children, she leads by example as is so evident by the countless programmes for children that she is involved in. She does this all with such grace and calm. The meeting and our discussions, further reiterated my commitment to to help children the world over… because every child matters, no matter where they come from. I'm looking forward to meeting her again at the United Nations General Assembly in NYC next week which we both will be speaking at. Thank you Jordan for the hospitality and I will see you again.. This is Ammar(5), Ayat(8), Sulaiman (5 months) Wardshan(9) and they have an elder brother Saleh(10) who works at a grocery store to help supplement the family income, for only 2 Jordanian Dinar (that's less than $3 USD.) Their father is a day laborer. Sulaiman needs a 2nd surgery because he has a clot in his nose. The family moved from Syria to Jordan 5 years ago. When I asked their mother what would be her wish…considering the war hasn't ended, she said "if we can't go home all I want is for my kids to get an education so they can fend for themselves when they are older and help rebuild Syria. We are blessed, we have enough to survive…others have much less." They didn't even have furniture in their home. The largesse of heart and compassion she had through her tears moved me to pieces. PLS GO TO www.unicef.org and DONATE whatever you can… let's make this a collective #MissionForChildren #ChildrenUprooted #PCInJordan #ChildrenOfSyria @unicef

Say hello to Omaima 16, Seba 17, Shaimaa 14, Hanin 15, Maria 15, Wafa 13, Ayat 16, and Maram 15. These are 16-17 yr olds in a school in the Za'atari Refugee Camp. Omaima couldn't carry much when she and her family fled Syria…so she decided to carry soil and rocks from her garden to remember her country. Seba said they have all prepared themselves for when they go back to Syria after the war is over…knowing it will be almost unrecognizable. That's the reason they go to school everyday, so that they can rebuild Syria again. Their determination for education, however much they can get, is incredible and truly overwhelming. These girls don't have much at all, but yet Seba and Omaima took their bracelet and ring off to give me so I will always remember them. I'll always remember you…I promise. It's kids like this that will build a better world tomorrow. Please swipe left for more. @unicef #TheyAreUs #ChildrenUprooted #pcinjordan

Excuse the bad cartwheel and lame attempt at a Rugby toss… This is a Makani 'Drop In' Center for underage boys who work, they are referred to as "Child Laborers." Most of the boys are between 10 and 18 years old, work 6-12 hours per day, and literally drop in after work to play and receive an informal education, as well as learn life skills. Many of the boys you see in these pictures have only just started to learn how to read and write, since the priority for most of these boys is to provide sustenance for their families. The teachers here work 3 shifts each day to accommodate the influx of kids to give them a chance to work and study. We must do our bit. This is what WAR looks like. Consequence of Conflict. At Za'atari, I'm proud to have had the opportunity to visit the home of Seba and her whole family – Mohammed, 19; Seba, 17; Haya 14; Hiba, 12; Omar, 6; Hala, 4. In spite of their circumstances, their makeshift home, and very little to call their own, we were the recipients of the full Syrian hospitality and love. Her mother, Isdihaar, a dignified and happy spirit was so open about her earlier life, and all that they do now to survive. They had a full life in Syria, with a home and everything they could ask for, and now…sitting in their sparse living room, all I got was a resolve to hold on until they could return to their home and rebuild their life. Without her husband there, she's taking care of her 6 children by working at an innovation lab, finding innovative solutions for everyday problems…like the neo-natal air conditioner created by just using a fan, ice cubes and box with holes. As I was leaving, Seba removed her bracelet and gave it to me and said it was so I'd never forget her. I will never forget her and the amazing people I've met, and it is because of them that my resolve to keep working by bringing attention to their situation has just grown stronger. Hoping that somehow we, the citizens of the world, will find it in our hearts to contribute to ease the largest humanitarian crisis since the end of World War II. To donate please go to UNICEF.com or visit link in bio. @unicef #MissionForChildren #ChildrenUprooted #ChildrenOfSyria #PCInJordan

From fulfilling her professional commitments to helping in the education of underprivileged kids, our cover girl Priyanka Chopra is officially taking over the world. After joining the UNICEF family as its Global Goodwill Ambassador, the actor has been actively working with the organisation on various social issues. This week, actor travelled to Jordan to meet the children displaced due to the war in Syria. During the course of her trip, Chopra visited the government schools and various refugee camps in Za’atari and Amman to spend time with the underprivileged kids.
Given the nature of the trip, the actor has kept her travel wardrobe very simple. Yesterday, for her meeting with Queen Rania of Jordan, the actor forego designer wear for a simple midi floral dress from Zara (buy it here). The floral number with a high neck lent a polished, feminine touch to her ensemble. Minimal make-up with sleek hair were the perfect complement to Chopra’s day look.
Check out the slideshow for a closer look at the stars outfit and her trip to Jordan.
