Widely believed to be a descendant of the extinct Tesem, the Azawakh originates from Burkina Faso, Mali, and Niger. This sighthound is mostly utilised as a guardian, and a gazelle hunter (hunting in packs). This breed wasn't seen outside of Africa until the 1970s, but now that it's available in the US, the breed also excels in lure coursing.

The Azawakh is an ancient sighthound dog breed from West Africa. It is raised throughout the Sahelian zone of Mali, Niger, and Burkina Faso. This region includes the Azawagh Valley for which the breed is named.
The Azawakh is a multipurpose breed and is used mainly for hunting, as a livestock guardian and as a general guard dog. Unlike a lot of guardian breeds, the Azawakh is highly social and thrives in a pack with a complex social hierarchy. They are very protective of their owners and wary of strangers.
Our first NPC attached to a character, Azawakh the Shifter Conjuration Wizard (Pronounced eh-zah-walk). He’s an arch wizard in the Sihiri Institute, an experimental wizarding school in which he was a founding member. He’s a grumpy guy who usually prefers to work alone, but made an interesting exception for Vita. They’ve been Vita’s mentor for the better part of a decade now.
