Baby Griffon for Merrill

Merrill: If you could do anything - just anything at all - what would you do? Bethany: That's easy. Be normal. No magic, just... normal. Merrill: Really? You wouldn't fly across Thedas or eat a cake the size of Kirkwall? Keep a baby griffon for a pet? Bethany: Well, now that you say it, the griffon might not be so bad. Merrill: I'd name mine Feathers.

Bethany: You're a cute couple. Do you have pet names? Hawke: What, like Little Griffon and Baby Dragon? Merrill: Oh, definitely Griffon! You can't really pet a dragon, can you? They're all scaly. Bethany: I'm kind of sorry for asking.

Merrill: Do your stories ever have griffons in them? Varric: Kind of tricky because they're extinct. You can work a griffon attack into a town but it takes skill. Merrill: I was thinking more like... heroic griffons. The sort that swoop in and save the day. Varric: Daisy, haven't you heard? Swooping is bad. Merrill: Oh. Varric: I could do heroic charging, though. You want me to call him Feathers? Merrill: Yes! And make him extra fluffy!

Merrill: If you weren't a pirate, what do you think you would've been? Isabela: I haven't given it much thought. Maybe a poet? (Laughs) Merrill: You would've made a great griffon-wrangler. Isabela: I'm sorry... what? Merrill: You're so quick and clever. You'd be perfect. And you'd get a baby griffon for me, wouldn't you? Isabela: Kitten, if griffons existed, and if I was a... griffon-wrangler and not a pirate, yes. I would find you a baby griffon. Merrill: Thanks. I've always wanted a baby griffon called Feathers.

Merrill: You know, Fenris, you should get a pet! Fenris: I'm afraid to ask what brought this on. Merrill: On the way here, I saw a noblewomen in a gown made completely out of fur! I thought she was a bear at first! Fenris: So I should keep an Orlesian noblewoman as a pet? Merrill: Orlesians would make terrible pets! They'd complain all the time! No, I was thinking of a griffon. Fenris: Somehow, I should have expected that.

Wip Wednesday

So, with the cookbook now with an actual date I think I'll carry the high I've had over that announcement for October 17, 2023 and share the project I've been yelling in my tags about.

I’ve been working in the Foods of Thedas cook book/blurb collection project. I started it when I amassed all the foods in Thedas in a post on my old blog (I am working on a new version in time for da4). Since I tripped down that rabbit hole, and fell face first into researching historical foods I've managed to write a couple novels worth of blurbs, recipes, headcanons, and just hyperfixation.

I'm really excited for this and see if there is any new lore from the recipe book that can be added. Though I don't know if the official cookbook will be written in the voice of being in world. I hope just because I'd find that more fun but I digress.

The layouts for the cookery I've been working on:

Enjoy the muppet of a baby griffon acting as a placeholder. It is from my Bestiary of Thedas project, so no…no consuming baby griffons. I got three versions:

1) Working Recipe format (no griffon chick)

2) Non-working Recipe (muppet baby to distract)

3) Working Recipe Spread - for the recipes I decided to make super involved.

To think the interest in even collecting all the food in Thedas started out with my Herbalist Handbook project (which I am still working on) and I just spiraled too deep into the world building.

I've put in a lot of research and wanted to make this something fun to add flavor text to world building/headcanons or fun recipes you could try yourself. This project got a lot bigger than I originally planned haha.
