hello i am not a hater tell me about them

(context: this ask is referencing my “the haters dont know about my glasses men who are bad at maintaining roller coasters” post)

i actually wasn’t anticipating anyone being interested enough in these guys to send asks omg thank you!! the “glasses guys” in question are three generations of showmen from the same family who either previously ran or currently run the Wonderville carnival in this convoluted fan backstory a couple of my friends and i have for rtc. george was the first one, and there’s luckily plenty of info about him on my blog under my “#morten lore” tag. the other two are his son, louis, and his grandson, edward, respectively. louis made the weird (but not unprecedented irl) move to take over george’s original Famously Dangerous park after george’s bizarre and untimely death, and edward is the current owner of it on account of louis now being old as fuck and a lowkey alcoholic.

all of them are EXTREMELY flawed people and have left some generational scars on each other, their other family members, and the very town they’re supposedly bringing Family Fun At Prairie Prices™ to.

all three of them also wear glasses because genetically their eyesight just sucks, but the glasses are also a character design choice and symbol for their shortsightedness and poor ability to consider the beeds of others beyond themselves.

i have many issues with the last ep but from a Mogami stan pov wow. they really did it to him.

shoutout to the anime making Mogami seem... dare i say.. valid? idk i just noticed a shift in fandom mentality where Mogami is less evil and more an anti-hero antagonist..? maybe i’m just not on tumblr as much.

regardless, that archetype was all there in the manga (tragic backstory, The Nihilism™, evil for good, skewed morality, etc) but i noticed the anime really brought out the anti-hero.

Shigeo’s time in Mogamiland was kinda glanced over and Mogami’s “I will show you how treat people who would manipulate you and treat you as lesser” shown through. in the light of comments Dimple and Reigen were making about using Shigeo, Mogami‘s motives were tbh more pure at heart. whack.

also, as far as i remember, in the manga Mogami killed other psychic assassins who came after him while still alive and didn’t really go into his post-morten endeavors. the anime did, at least a little bit in the sequence ending in a blood splatter on a wall. he said he possessed Minori to punish these psychics, not to punish Minori (which was my understanding of his motive in the manga). interesting.

either way that was a very Mogami-centric arc and a very different approach than the manga.

I have a group of vampires living together too, although there's not much of an actual story going on, besides their backstories, as I really play it out more like.. a sitcom?? A vampire sitcom. Yeah. I just kinda do whatever. They're like, my weird immortal kids. I might draw them a lot.

Morten, and Bat. Mort was just a very naive kid who thought their talking bat was nothing more than just that, and then it bit them. And then they turned undead. Whoops. They're also by far the youngest one of the bunch; only 20 years old. Really likes hats and florals, really hates the idea of drinking blood from innocent people.  Bat was that talking bat. It turns out he was a vampire all along; one whose feeding methods usually consisted of flying into random houses, hiding there as a bat during daytime, and preying upon the inhabitants at night. It worked pretty well until Morten found out he could talk. So he accidentally made a friend, and it all went downhill from there.

Then there's Einarr, ancient thousand year old viking who turned Bat like two hundred years ago. Though he may look terrifying at times, he's actually really nice and fatherly... at least to his fellow vampires. The other guy is Rune, who was born this way due to a curse, and grew up in a (mostly) human family. He's also not very old; born in the 70s, so really, he's just approaching fifty. He also accidentally slept for twenty of those years. It's very unfortunate.

never fit into regular clothes when he started gettin real tall so his mum started making his clothes

then he learned from her and honed his skills to be. the best

he’s naive but he ain’t no babby and would like to not be treated as such

her dad taught her how to aim and made her the girl she is today but that don’t mean she much cared for him or agreed with him when he was alive

adopted her Aesthetic to overcompensate for people’s initial impressions of her being the ultimate marksman

has no impulse control over her mouth like if she thinks it she can and will say it

look at me about to call my boy out over his cool dude facade

the shades he wears are a lie he’s not cool

he’s only able to act that way bc the shades put a major damper on his anxiety

he’s a stuttering shaky mess talking to anyone face to face without em

the beanie and scarf are extra precautions so he can hide away

Welcome to the tumblr home of my vampire comics!

I make these for fun, so I don't really put too much pressure on myself to keep up with deadlines and such.

It's chill. It's chaotic. It's not written in the correct order. It's... well...

Low Stakes is my rather light-hearted comic about my queer vampires - I don't really try to restrict myself to any genre, so anything is possible really. Friends have described it as a supernatural slice-of-life, which probably isn't too far off.

Essentially, this is just me thinking about my OCs and documenting it on paper. Bits and pieces of their undead lives.

It all started with an unwanted turning, and it just kinda snowballed from there! :D

For now, the full comic is found mainly on Toyhou.se, but this tumblr will catch up soon enough.
