paracetamol - bbh
Tumblr media
Characters: Baekhyun x Reader
Genre: Romance, slight angst and fluff
Au!s: Single dad au, best friends au
Sypnosys: Baekhyun, a bright, kind and beautiful person inside out, had always found himself strong enough to carry everything on his own sturdy shoulders. But as his daughter one day finds him in the middle of a breakdown, he admits that perhaps, he's not completely fine- and not as strong as he thought. Baekhyun, a twenty-eight-year-old single dad that finds himself struggling to raise his daughter, gets a  proposal from his bestfriend to finally start letting in new people in his life, meeting women on dates you had set him up with. But just as things fall into place- they fall apart on the other side.
Making him realize that he had been trying to build the wrong puzzle all along.
Making you realize that the puzzle you were making him build was one you wouldn't be a piece of. One you couldn't help him build anymore.
If you took two paracetamol pills from 500mg, would it be the same as 1000mg? Would they ever be enough to ease the ache in your chest?
"Beware of butterflies, they'll break your heart."
Was it the extremely lonely moon that had smitten him with its melancholy? Or perhaps the gentle rain tapping onto the window, inducing him to feel just as small, just as vulnerable. The tears welling up in Baekhyun's eyes were small but full of sorrow. A sorrow that controlled his voice into subtle cries that he so wanted to swallow back down his throat, a sorrow that made his body tremble.
Baekhyun was someone that always smiled, for the people around him, for himself, for his daughter. As bright as the sun, he was. Cheerful like the summer, he was. He was organized and had everything under control.
But for tonight, he couldn't control his emotions. As much as he wanted to stop crying and be stronger, the sudden wave of overwhelming feelings had unexpectedly come crashing down upon him. Until now, Baekhyun had always done his best to be the greatest version of himself, so that he could give his only daughter the best life, even without a mother. In fact, he had to say, things had gone surprisingly well and nothing like what he had imagined when his lover had suddenly left him and their daughter without notice, without explanations. It would've been a lie if he said he hadn't gone through a harsh period where he'd constantly be tested by depression, loneliness, and hopelessness. But he had had his sources of light. His daughter that day by day grew so quickly yet beautifully, had always been was what drove him forward, what prevented him from giving up so many times. And then there had been you. You and your endless will to help him with his needs as a single dad, your strengthening friendship, and your comforting smiles.
Despite the hardships he had faced, Baekhyun always considered himself extremely blessed, for he had a beautiful daughter that he truly, loved with his whole being- a daughter that solely could bring him so much happiness to last for an eternity. A loving family and precious friends that took care of him, and he took care of them. With all of these things, he would never allow himself to feel sad, broken, or lonely. It felt extremely wrong and ungrateful. Baekhyun could just not accept the fact that he too, was not endlessly strong. Just like everybody else, he had a breaking point. Now, he had finally reached it.
The twenty-nine-year-old man did not hear the little girl silently pushing his door that had been ajar, open. There would be times where his daughter wouldn't be able to sleep and seek for her dad, and she was so tiny, so he would purposely never close the door completely so that she could come in without hinders. Standing on her tippy toes, she took tiny steps to the king-sized bed that really, wasn't too big, but looked immense in her tired eyes. A little clumsily, she climbed onto the bed and plopped down next to Baekhyun, tugging gently at the sleeve of his pajamas while rubbing her eye with the other hand. Shocked to be caught in such a vulnerable moment, Baekhyun almost jumped away from the child but visibly relaxed when he saw her.
"S-sweetheart, what are you doing here?" His trembling voice gave him away, but he didn't think that his daughter would catch on it. He was wrong, for before she could even think about answering, she had already noticed the salty stains of his tears reflecting in the moonlight. The little girl almost tripped when standing up, but stubbornly caught her balance again before walking to stand in front of her father.
"Why is daddy crying?" Came her small voice, full of concern, "Did you have a nightmare?" Her arms were stretched towards him, she obviously wanted to throw them around his neck, but they were too short. The sight melted Baekhyun's heart instantly and without making her wait, he pulled her onto his lap. She hadn't been too far from right when she mentioned a nightmare, although he had been awake, the painful feelings chasing his sleep away certainly felt like one.
"Dad is okay, don't worry, hmm?" Baekhyun made sure to sound the sweetest so that he wouldn't worry her, but sometimes he underestimated the maturity of his daughter. Sure, she was still incredibly young, but every day she showed him how intelligent she was, understanding many things right away. A confused frown made its way on his face when all she did was puff her rosy cheeks with air, a bit annoyed, for that matter.
"Daddy, you not so good at lying, you know?" Once again, he was to be astonished by his own daughter. The incredulous expression on her soft features alone was able to make him forget about his anxieties. He had no idea how to respond to that, much less to the way she had started looking at him so intently. He felt slightly awkward when her chocolate brown eyes that resembled his moved all over his face for a good minute. Soon enough though, a hint of hesitation began polling within them as she started fidgeting nervously with her tiny, chubby fingers.
"Are you missing mommy?" Her voice had been so small, almost inaudible when asking the question, always afraid that the topic would sadden Baekhyun further. Early in her life, she had learned that she was slightly different from the other children because she did not have a mother. At first, it had been hard to digest the fact that everybody she knew had a mother except for her...But it did not last long, she had immensely shocked Baekhyun when she with her slightly broken language told him that she didn't mind after all, since he had always been there and it was enough.
Baekhyun vigorously shook his head at the question. What happened had by now taken place a long time ago and you could say that Baekhyun had learned to accept the way his story with the mother of his daughter had ended. He taught himself that it would never be worth it to hurt for someone who after all, did not love them enough to stay. The feelings of sorrow and heartbreak in her regards had with time morphed into something a loving person like Baekhyun would not usually carry in his heart. Rage. In fact, there would be moments when in his thoughts, he'd go back to all the good times lived together until he reached the abrupt end, and despite himself, he couldn't help but feel so angered, so disappointed. Wondering whether he had never been enough to her? And their daughter? Hadn't she meant anything for her to leave like that? What hurt the most was knowing that none of these questions were ever going to be answered. Though maybe, it was better that way. He had let it go, so there was no reason for him to reminisce about it. Sometimes though, he couldn't help it.
He brought a hand to brush the wild locks of his daughter away from her face, adoringly cupping her soft, soft cheek. "Do you? Are you sad?" He murmured, searching for an answer in her demeanor, but it was not needed because just like he had, she shook her head fervently.
"No, daddy is all I need." Sparkling adoration reflected on her face while from Baekhyun's eyes dripped honey as his lips curled in the happiest smile. A certain feeling bloomed within his chest, as if there were two hearts swelling next to each other, a kind of love and adoration that would steal his breath away. Swiftly, he put two hands underneath each of her armpits and lifted her up slightly, bringing her closer. Excited gurgles were echoing in the walls at the sudden move. He pressed a chaste kiss to her tiny lips and hugged the child to his chest, to which she happily snuggled into.
"You're my angel. Dad is so lucky to have you, you know that right?" She could only nod on his chest, her tiny fingers tightened around his shirt.
"Can I sleep here with dad?" Her head tilted upward to steal a glance at the male. Despite the sleep threatening to take over, for her, he pulled the brightest smile he could muster. Placing another kiss on the crown of her hair, he whispered a gentle; "Of course honey."
---
The clock was nearing noon when you got a text from Baekhyun asking you to pick up his daughter from kindergarten since he would be late. A smile instantly crossed your lips upon seeing the name of his contact, but also because you couldn't wait to see the baby girl again. She was the brightest ray of sun and her smile would always succeed to melt you into a puddle, not to mention the affection she held for you, it made you feel so extremely blessed to have the trust of such a gleeful child. The excitement was buzzing through your veins and you were hurrying to the destination, impatient to see what Sarang's reaction would be upon having you surprising her. She didn't know that it would be you to pick her up, and any time you had done it this way, her happy shrieks had always filled the playground.
It wasn't much different this time either. When Sarang saw you walking through the gates of her kindergarten, your name had been shrieked from the top of her lungs and before you had even known it, her short arms were circling your leg for a hug. You neither could help the endeared chuckles leaving your lips as you crouched down to her level so that you could bring her into your arms. "And how is my princess doing?" You cooed excitedly while the two of you went to get her things.
"Good!" She exclaimed, though the bright smile soon died down and was replaced by a frown on her lips. "But daddy has been a bit sad," Sarang revealed, the concern for her father was extremely obvious on her soft features.
"Yeah? What has happened to dad, hm?" You were to be disappointed when the girl only shrugged her small shoulders. Usually, you would know better than to worry over things children would say, though Sarang, was extremely mature for her age. Something truly wasn't right if it worried her. "Will you help him?"She suddenly said, begging you with her glossy eyes that prompted you to plant a reassuring kiss on her head. "Of course," You said, "Best friend on a mission!" You formed your hand into a fist and brought it forward as if you were superman, sprinting the way to your car, happy to hear Sarang giggling at the thrilling feeling of the wind against her face.
You had only started parking when Sarang had already begun begging you to let her unlock the door herself since she found it so incredibly fun and fascinating to insert the key into the lock and twist it. With a grin on your face, you fished out the extra pair of keys to their home that Baekhyun had given you from the very start and handed them to her. The metallic gadgets noisily dangled from her fingers while she skipped her way to the front door, bouncing excitedly on her feet when waiting for you so that you could lift her up, she wasn't tall enough after all.
By now, you had spent so much time with Baekhyun and Sarang that you had basically seen her grow, and that meant that you also knew what her routines were every day. Grabbing the sweet flavored yogurt from the fridge together with some fruits, you made her an afternoon snack that would later do its magic on sending her into napping mode. Half an hour later, the little girl was falling into a peaceful slumber, scrambled on the couch while her favorite cartoon played in the background. You couldn't help the smile crossing your lips. She was utterly adorable. With the soft sneers leaving her pouty lips and her long eyelashes casting a long shadow down her rosy cheeks. Ever so carefully, you picked her up in your embrace and almost melted when she automatically nuzzled her face into your neck, fisting your shirt with her little hand. You wouldn't have minded having her nap huddled in your embrace like that, but you found it better for Sarang to sleep on an actual, comfortable bed. So that was where you brought her; to her bedroom, tucked safely in the comfort of her fluffy pink sheets.
An hour had finally passed, and somehow it had felt way slower than it should've, but you figured that it was probably because you had spent it doing absolutely nothing, in a house that wasn't yours. To your relief though, you heard the lock to the door click open and shuffling footsteps entered the apartment. There was no doubt of who it was, without exaggerations, you would always know when it was him. Even the pattern of his footsteps was recognizable to you.
You left the couch to greet him and as soon as you were visible, he discarded the exhausted look from his face, just so that he could warm you up with his smile. The action tugged a tiny part of your chest, he was back from an extremely long day at work and the dark circles underneath his eyes were revealing it all. But nonetheless, he found it more important to make you comfortable with a smile rather than letting you see his exhaustion. In all honestly, you weren't sure whether to find that admirable or scold him because he was putting too much pressure on himself all the time.
"Com' here," You chimed knowingly, gesturing for him to follow you. The man trailed with small footsteps behind you as if a puppy, silently obeying when you gestured for him to sit on the couch while you walked around it. A thankful sigh pushed past his lips when your fingers gently dug into his shoulders, melting the tensing knots underneath his skin that had built during the day.
"How are you?" You murmured, genuinely wanting to know about his day, about his feelings. Whenever you'd ask him this, it would never be out of courtesy. There was just something about Baekhyun's soft, soothing voice telling you about his adventures that made you want to listen to every single word he had to say. But today, your motive was different. As your hands massaged his shoulders, Sarang's words echoed in your head, making you wonder whether Baekhyun would ever feel comfortable enough to talk about it with you. The question was answered by the defeated sigh he let out when throwing his head back against the couch, the crown of his head coming to contact with your abdomen. The gel that had been brushed through his locks was now worn off, barely holding together the wildness of his hair, which only made your fingers painfully long to thread through those chocolate strands of his. Baekhyun's eyes were shut close in exhaustion as he forced himself to speak through the tiredness.
"Sarang caught me in the middle of a breakdown." He confirmed what the little girl had told you earlier, and although the tone in his voice was merely a breathy whisper, you still caught onto the disappointment he felt towards himself. Knowing the man, he was probably considering himself a failure for letting his daughter see him in such a vulnerable state.
"A father is supposed to be a strong figure in their child's eyes, someone who can be strong enough to support them whenever someone who is wise. And yet here I am, failing miserably." Dejection coated his words as he let out the burdens weighing down on his heart. His gentle and fragile heart that had been wounded so deeply. "What do I even do?" He exasperated, "I want to give her everything. I want her to feel safe. I want to give her the mother she has a right to, the peaceful and happy childhood she deserves. But things are just so damn complicated, I-" His breath got caught in his lungs when feeling a familiar overwhelmedness of emotions threatening to crush him.
"How am I going to handle all of that?" It physically pained you to see Baekhyun in such a despaired state. Solely the way he was leaning his elbows onto his knees, stressfully hiding his face in his palm radiated such an amount of anxiousness that could've made you fall into the same pit of darkness just by looking at him. Baekhyun had been there for you every time you had needed him. You were not going to let him down.
Not a second was wasted and by the time he blinked, you were already there next to him. Fingertips running soothingly through his hair while your other hand guided his head to rest on your soft chest, to which he complied immediately. A content yet trembling whimper left his lips at the warmth and comfort of your embrace, his nose traced its way to the crook of your neck where he could inhale the sweetness of your perfume mixed with fabric softener.
"I don't want to be so vulnerable. I'm sorry you're always here to witness me being so weak." Again, Baekhyun couldn't help but resent himself for his overflowing flaws and imperfections he couldn't get a hold of no matter what. "No, don't say that Baekhyun. I'm thankful to be able to be the one helping you in any kind of situation." Perhaps you had let on too much? But this was what you felt. As his best friend, just the thoughts of him being comforted by someone else would spark some kind of jealousy within you, because you wanted to be the one to anchor him at any time.
"Maybe it's time that you start letting new people into your life again?" You pondered out loud while your fingers twirled around Baekhyun's satin-like curly brown locks, earning nothing but a frustrated groan. "Minseok's been saying that for weeks, to try dating and all that." By the irritated undertone in his voice, you could tell that he was indeed not keen on letting new females in his life yet.
"I've been considering it, but I don't want this to turn into Sarang feeling neglected either," Baekhyun expressed his worries while lifting his head from your chest so that he could look at you instead, letting you view the worry swimming in his dark pools.
"It doesn't have to turn out like that, I'll be with Sarang whenever it's needed," You suggested, giving his cheek a gentle caress. With a sigh, he leaned into your touch. "You shouldn't have to do that as often as you already do, she's my responsibility, not yours."
"Baek, you also deserve to find your happiness." At that, all he did was bit his lips, the war in his head visible from his troubled orbs. "Everything will be okay," You assured, "I'll find some impeccable dates for you and we'll start simply, hm? How does that sound?"The male contemplated your proposal with a skeptical look on his face which made you roll your eyes dramatically.
"Oh stop it, you can trust me!"
"Fine, fine."
***
"Wow! Daddy so handsom!!" Came Sarang's high pitched gurgle at the view of her father. You had to second her on that. With his curls resting on his forehead in such a youthful way, the light jeans and the collar of a button-up peeking from the sweater made him look absolutely irresistible. With a chuckle, baekhyun kneeled down to pick the girl up, resting her comfortably on his hip and placing the sweetest kiss on her temple, making you almost squeal out loudly at the view. "Really?" he chimed sweetly, earning a few excited nods, to which he laughed.
"Thank you, princess." Although the fondness in his voice as he spoke to his daughter, the nervousness and distress were limpidly reflecting in his orbs, and you found yourself softening before him, you found absolutely no reason for him to feel all the worry he was feeling.
"Be confident Baekhyun," You said once he'd put Sarang down, letting her run off to play. "You're such a handsome and charming man, with beautiful qualities. You have it all." You murmured with so much adoration and sincerity, maybe even too much because your heart had started swelling in your chest upon speaking such words. The fact that you would always know what he was feeling before him saying it first would never stop astonishing him. Relief washed over his features and he allowed himself to step a little closer. For a second, you thought you had forgotten how to breathe, when his lips had caressed ever so gently to your cheek, pressing one or two kisses before leaning back and eyeing you with a  heartbreaking smile that neither you could run away unaffected from, while breathing the sweetest "Thank you," you had ever had directed towards yourself.
After one last brief goodbye, which was the thirteenth as well, he finally left the apartment, leaving you to sigh heavily and praying in your mind that everything could go well. That he wouldn't close himself if the first tries wouldn't work out. You knew that Baekhyun could turn out to be very sensitive after what had happened to him. While keeping him in your mind, you called out of Sarang, and the little girl appeared soon, giggling and smiling she jumped in your arms. "Shall we start our ladies' night!?" You cooed excitedly, prompting her to squeal and gesticulate enthusiastically, her happy antics would never fail to put your worries at bay, spreading nothing but warmth in your chest. The Barbie movie she adored so much had just started playing when she suddenly turned in her embrace, curiosity shining in her droopy eyes that were just like his. You quirked a questioning eyebrow and Sarang let out a small giggle, "Is daddy going to fall in love?" the thought of her dad going out to 'fall in love' as her sweet innocence made her see it, seemed to excite her a lot. A soft smile fell on your lips as a hand caressed her soft tresses gently. "Hopefully," You replied, only thinking that it would be beautiful if he could fall in love, it would be amazing if love didn't come with pain.
It really would be. And you hoped that for Baekhyun who deserved it more than anyone else.
30 minutes into the third movie was when you finally felt your eyes getting droopy. Initially, you had tried making the baby girl go to sleep already after the second movie, but she had insisted to stay awake until her daddy came back and wouldn't take a no for an answer. Until a few moments ago, she had been bouncing like an energetic bunny and you couldn't understand how she had all of that energy when you hadn't even given her any sweets yet. Though now, it seemed as if her body was slowly giving in to the tiredness, but obviously enough, she fought it as hard as she could to finish watching the romantic animated film. You suppressed the laugh at her funny expression, flushed chubby cheeks and brows arched into a frown, her eyes glaring really intensely at the huge TV screen as if it would chase her sleepiness away.
But you ended up being no better as you had ended up falling asleep with her on the couch. Her little body in a fetal position as she had in her sleep snuggled into your laying body. Sarang's head rested on your chest while her tiny fists grabbed onto the hoody enveloping your body, its scent was bound to make her lean closer into it. In fact, it wasn't even yours,  you hadn't been able to find a darn blanket in the whole house, and Sarang had been of no help either, but you couldn't blame the girl for not knowing where her dad hid things. And that was why you had stolen one from his closet, choosing the biggest out of them all, knowing that Baekhyun would probably not mind you doing that.
You did not know for how long you had been asleep when you were suddenly woken up by feeling Sarang being lifted from next to you. A loud gasp left your lips as you sat up abruptly, looking around frantically, your mind still numb because of the sleep.
"Hey, shh, it's me," Came a hushed whisper to which you recognized the voice. A gentle hand placed itself on your cheek, turning you to look in their direction. Your eyes were still wide with shock as you eyed the Baekhyun who was currently pressing his lips into a thin line so that he wouldn't let out the laugh in his throat and wake up Sarang. The mischievousness was a permanent glint in his eyes as he then patted down your wild locks.
"Go back to sleep, it's okay," He said with a smirk on his face although his voice was nothing but soothing and gentle. When he saw that you still wouldn't budge from your current position, he shifted the sleeping Sarang slightly in his embrace, reaching out with his hand to your shoulder, pushing you gently to lay back down. "Sleep," He murmured one last time while his hand had traveled from your shoulder to give your cheek that was by now, flushed by the hot temperature, a soft caress that induced your heavy eyelids to droop back close. All you could really decipher at that moment was the question swirling in your head, wondering whether you were going to remember these few interactions tomorrow morning.
***
The sound of your name being called by an angel-like voice reached your ears, though, you were pretty sure it was part of the beautiful dream you were having while basking in the warmth of the sun-rays peeking from the curtains, but most of all, completely immersed in a familiar scent, a homely and ridiculously good one. It wasn't yours, and at the moment you had no idea who it might've belonged to but you knew, in your state of sleepiness that you didn't want to get out of it. Eventually, you were forced out of your sleep when you were shaken awake. You had difficulty opening your heavy eyes but it soon passed when the first thing you saw was his almond-shaped, droopy eyes gazing down at you.  It was when a soft smile crept on his lips that you finally realized how you weren't in your own bed, nor the couch you had fallen asleep on yesterday. Mainly, that the sweet, comforting scent you had been engulfed in this time not only derived from the oversized hoody you were wearing but from the fluffy white sheets surrounding you on the king-sized bed you could've only wished you could ever afford.
"Baek," You sleepily whined with disbelief while rubbing the sleep out of your eyes. "You gave me your bed again." You stated. "Why did you move me from the couch? You should've used the bed instead!" First thing in the morning, you found yourself scolding Baekhyun for being overly selfless. You had felt how tense his back had been with knotted muscles just a few days ago, and there he was, giving away a well-needed sleep so that you could've been more comfortable. As much as this could be considered a good quality, you couldn't help but sometimes feel that Baekhyun was way too generous for his own good. The male sitting on the free space next to you on the bed did not even comment on what you had just said, letting your words fade into thin air.
"Did you sleep well?" He questioned instead, blinking his puppy eyes ever so innocently and you could only groan out loudly. "Nggh, I can't handle you," You lamented into the fabric of his hoody. "Don't be like that, you know I like doing these things." Baekhyun insisted.
"Yes, but it shouldn't cost you your health, Baekhyun!" You almost hissed, rasping your dry throat in the process. The slight harshness in your tone managed to quieten Baekhyun who only looked down in his laps.
"But you were so deeply asleep, I couldn't bring myself to wake you up or to let you be uncomfortable on the sofa!" Baekhyun continued to argue after a small moment of silence, his pouty lips tilting into a sulky frown. "Plus...You were starting to drool and that couch isn't exactly cheap, you know," he eventually admitted what might have been his main reason, leaving you to flush deep red with embarrassment, finding no other solution than to hide your face in his pillow. "Why did you tell me that, gosh." you groaned while suppressing the bubbling urge to scream into the pillow as well, but you decided that you had embarrassed yourself enough to do that too.
Baekhyun only giggled in response, muttering a quick: "Just kidding," To which you reacted faster than he'd expected when you threw your pillow at him, earning a girly yell from the almost thirty-year-old man. Suddenly, as if lightning had struck you, you calmed immediately down.
"How did the date go?!" You exclaimed excitedly as you crawled closer to him. Baekhyun seemed startled by your sudden mood swings for a moment but got over it quickly. You understood that something was off when Baekhyun gave you an uncertain cringe in response.
"It went well until I mentioned Sarang," He confessed, finally letting go of his usual worry-free facade and allowing the defeated look he'd been holding back take over his features, shoulders slumping together and eyebrows bent with frustration, forming a crease on his forehead. His pink lips pouty and begging for comfort, but you immediately took your eyes elsewhere to keep your thoughts about Baekhyun's lips at bay. And that, ladies and gentlemen, was the main struggle of having an attractive best friend, but that was a story for another time.
"Oh," You cooed, "Baekhyun, it's not your fault, please don't beat yourself up about it." You tried to console him but to no avail. Truthfully, there wasn't much you could do if women were scared away by the fact that he already had a child. But you still tried to ease his worries. Letting out a soft breath, you mustered a smile that you hoped could relieve him, your hand gently rubbing his arm.
"I believe that maybe, you should wait for a few dates in before speaking up about your family, so that the girl can get to know you for you, without any prejudices they may come up with beforehand. Hm?" The suggestion didn't sound illogical as Baekhyun contemplated it, eventually nodding hastily, "You're right," He agreed with a smile.
"Good, then I'll set a date with your next candidate later on today."

Every challenge in life was bound to be a bumpy road that would cause one to stumble, and even fall on the way. But never would it be impossible to go through. You had experienced that and strongly stood by that statement. Though, even you felt the tiniest hint of hope slip through your fingers when Baekhyun had one night returned from his date with a second match that you had found him, rather defeated. The girl had right after their first meeting rejected the idea of getting to know him further, and to your relief this time it hadn't been because of Sarang. Somehow, you found yourself appreciating the girl's honesty and confidence, she knew what she wanted and when she didn't find it in Baekhyun (which left you quite baffled because he was perfect) she ended things before they could go too far. It had taken a few tries to convince Baekhyun to not give up, trying to make him understand that sometimes it could take longer to find a great match. The whole blind date situation though slowly started to become less appealing to him. He had sighed heavily when saying that he didn't like to hurry and force such processes in his life that were supposed to take its time to come.
It was because of that when he entered the apartment with a wide grin on his face, you hadn't known better than to excitedly squeal and jump in his arms. You could feel his smile on your skin as he tightened his arms around you.
"Did you get a second date?" You questioned, loosening the hug ever so slightly so that you could take in the joyful expression on his face. The male gave you a dreamy grin and nodded with a childish innocence that made your heart swell with warmth. Something poked into your thoughts,  something you couldn't put a finger on. It didn't feel positive, so you waved it away and concentrated on the happiness that hadn't taken place on his face for a long time now.
"I'm so happy for you Baek," You smiled, caressing his arm affectionately, "How was she?" You wondered curiously and his smile seemed to widen at the mention of the amazing girl he had just gone on a date with. You were happy to see this kind of expression display so mindlessly on his beautiful features. He truly deserved to be happy.
"She's beautiful and easygoing, which was such a relief. I felt comfortable right away. All in all, it was like a breath of fresh air. Obviously, I can't either of us have feelings yet, but I think there's a potential between us." Baekhyun explained, and you found a part of his sentence rather relieving- for a reason to you unknown but you decided not to dwell on it.
"I'm glad you liked her, I'm rooting for you!" You cheered with the most delightful expression you could muster, you wanted him to know that whatever he would do, that you would be there to support him. You wanted to see him smile, like this, every day. And if this girl would be the reason for it, then so be it. Thankfulness and adoration swam in his oceans as he took in the bright smile on your face, his expression almost having a sad twinge to it, but perhaps you were just seeing things wrong. Without a warning, he pulled you into another embrace- a silent one and yet so incredibly emotional as he pressed you to his chest, making you wonder where the butterflies fluttering in your belly came from- you had never had them before.
"Thank you." He breathed out, and his long eyelashes caressed the surface of your neck, "I appreciate everything you're doing for me. I want to give you just as much back, I promise that I'll do it."
"Baekhyun." His name tasted as always, just so sweet on your tongue, but as you had a slightly warning tone in your voice, today it felt also a bit sour. "You don't have to do anything. I'm doing this as your best friend because I want to. It's not something you'll owe me later. Okay? Please don't feel that way when you're with me. Whatever I give, just take, take. Please." You could only beg him, for once you wanted to be one to be unconditionally giving to him- it was an urge, a sensation that surged from the deepest part of your heart. Something you had to fulfill.
Tickling. An intense tickling took place in your tummy once again when the male tightened his arms that were laced around your waist, making it possible for you to feel his heartbeat against your raging one. Soon, they melted together into one unstable melody as your heart was beating so incredibly fast- crashing and rebelling against your thoughts, without your permission skipping exciting beats. This hug had by long surpassed the line between friendly and something more.
"No." Baekhyun murmured soothingly into your ear and unwillingly sent shivers thundering down your spine when the tips of his lips brushed ever so slightly against the shell of your ear, leaving no space for interjections.
Why was he like this?
Why was your heart like this? Beating at a speed of a thousand, you couldn't keep up, you felt out of breath.
You couldn't keep up.

The third girl you had set up with Baekhyun was just a few years younger than him. The two seemed to have clicked just perfectly as one date had turned into two- and two into three, into regular meets almost every day. Often, you found yourself babysitting the little Sarang, these days barely getting to see the man as he'd be out by the time you'd reach his house. You should've been happy for him, that finally, he had someone who wanted to commit themselves to him, that there was someone who loved making him feel like he mattered, but why was it that there was not even a crumb of happiness in his regards? It drove you to despise yourself, never had you thought that you could've been so cruel, so cold at heart, and for what exactly? For what reason? You missed him, sure, but you didn't believe that explained the clenching fingers clawing at your chest whenever you'd enter his damned house. The joy of babysitting the ray of sunshine had dissipated into nothingness and you had no idea how to make yourself grasp at any kind of motivation to keep going. But a part of you still fought, at least for the little Sarang who deserved anything she could get, truly. You could see it in her now saddened doll-eyes, that she too felt unusually lonely.
The moments where you'd babysit Sarang had morphed into the most dreaded hours of the day. It was as if a part of your conscious insisted for you to fight against the longing toward Baekhyun, a sensation that begged you to stay in your home, telling you that if you refused to help him out- you wouldn't have to deal with that throbbing loneliness and darn pain suffocating your every other emotion. And yet, you couldn't find it in yourself to say no, not to Baekhyun who counted on you so much. After all, you wanted him to feel like he could count on you always, you wanted him to reach out to you like he always did. You wanted him to continue doing that, and then maybe... at some point, he'd remember you were there too.
Pathetic, weren't you after all? So much for denying when it was so clear.
Everything was so clear.
That you wanted him all to yourself. Baekhyun, Baekhyun, Baekhyun. You longed to have his chocolate eyes swarming with warmth directed to you again, you wanted his radiant smile to melt your heart and cover your skin with goosebumps. You wanted his voice calling out to you for more than just a brief greeting. A long, never-ending conversation with just the two of you, on the sofa. That was what you longed for. To simply have back the time the two of you used to spend together. To be that constant in his life.
You fucking missed him, and that was okay, wasn't it? You were best friends after all. Didn't he miss you even a little bit? Now that he'd been distant for so long, didn't he think of his best friend the slightest bit? You felt your heart crack the slightest.
He was just your best friend, but why did it hurt so damn much? When the fuck did things start crumbling above of you?
If you took two paracetamol pills from 500mg, would it be the same as 1000mg? Would they ever be enough to ease the ache in your chest?
Your train of thoughts was interrupted when the screen of your phone suddenly lit up, almost startling you out of your current position on the couch. Currently, you were in the comfort of your home. The device vibrated with an incoming call and a sigh tumbled from your already parted lips.
Speaking of the devil, you thought as you hesitantly picked the phone up, for a moment you considered not answering the call. To let it ring until it would hit the hotline. Would that keep you in his thoughts?- A frown creased your brows as you realized what in the world you were thinking and before you could even evaluate your choice, you had already swiped the green button, answering the call.
It was just a call anyway. Just Baekhyun, it wasn't like something had changed after all.
You had to take a deep breath to steady your unusually nervous heartbeat. "Hello?" You spoke expectantly, finally realizing that it had been a while since he actually called you instead of sending brief texts. "Hey," His voice sounded darker over the phone, you couldn't help but remark, longing for more, the grip on your phone tightened- fingertips turning white.
"I- I know I've been asking you to come very often lately, I know you're probably resting right now and I'm sorry, but I truly need your help- I don't know what to do," Baekhyun sounded so extremely frustrated and distressed as he rambled on insecure words to which you could only frown to as you barely caught a thing he said.
"Baekhyun, calm down," You called soothingly, your voice a mere hushed tone as you knew that if you kept a calm manner, he would too. In fact, not even a second later, you heard the man draw a long breath, and almost, almost, you could see him and his chest deflate slowly as air would escape his pretty lips before you. "Now, tell me what's the matter."
"Sarang is throwing a fit! I-" Baekhyun did not know where to start, his hand gesticulating although you were not there to see him. Disbelief cascaded on his words the more he spoke, you could tell that he was absolutely desperate. "She's in her room and won't talk to me, I don't know what I have done wrong." He sighed defeatedly, "I really don't know." A moment of silence took place before his voice that had shrunken into a small, breakable whisper reached your ears again.
"Please...I really need you..." Your throat went absolutely dry at the plea in his hushed, husky voice and you swallowed whatever was left of moisture in your mouth, but to no avail, as everything was parched. Only a defeated sigh passed through your parted lips as you knew, that you were going to lose yourself in that sensation again. The one that empowered your resistance against him. You felt so lost as your lips parted and spoke on their own, you were drowning. Your lungs completely suffocating when surrounded by the longing for him that was enveloping you like violent waves in a rainstorm.
"I'll be there." The reassuring words had rolled off your tongue without your consent, but a part of you told you that it had been the right thing to do when you heard the relieved hum coming from Baekhyun on the other side. The smile spoke volumes in his voice as he thanked you hundreds of times.
***
Your gaze traveled along the pink door leading to Sarang's room. On its surface hung countless colorful drawings, to which each and all of them sparkled with childish happiness, a youth that manifested in the odd yet fantasy-filled representation of her little self holding Baekhyun's hand. In some drawings, you would even find yourself being present as well, which would never cease to provide you a lovely warmth in your chest.
Teeth dug into your lip while you contemplated your next actions. Baekhyun was standing just a few meters away with a worried frown permanently creasing his soft features while his eyes were unwavering from your figure and you could feel his gaze burning on your back. For some reason, his presence felt ever so slightly unnerving,  you were sure that it was because it had been a while since the two of you finally seen each other ever since he started frequenting the girl.
Deciding to not waste any more time, you shot your shot and brought your fist to the door, knocking gently, calmly calling out to the child. "Sarang, It's me, unnie." You started after a few knocks, "Will you let me in?" Your question lingered in the air thickly for a few moments until it completely dissipated. Your lips pressed into a thin line, a bit discouraged. But nonetheless, you insisted. "Why are you sad, baby? Don't you wanna tell unnie?" Coo found its way in your voice, sweet and understanding, inducing the angry child from the other side of the wall to give in. Relief washed over you when the pink door slowly creaked open. Quickly, you sent a glance in Baekhyun's direction from over your shoulder, only to see him smiling softly at the sight of you entering his daughter's room. It was a knowing smile, like he had known exactly what had been needed when Sarang had refused him. A sweet warmth crawled in your chest, eventually spreading lovingly into every inch of your body and you found yourself smiling despite the situation.
The child had her back facing you and her small shoulders slumped downwards while her tiny fists tightened next to her sides, fingers gripping onto her puffy dress. You felt the previous warmth in your chest immediately get replaced by a cold, heartbreaking pain clenching at your heart. Oh, how you despised to see the ray of sunshine burn out like this. If something had managed to take that toothy smile from her features then it meant something, or, someone had truly hurt her feelings.
With your legs crossed on the floor, you reached out of her fist and gently untangled her fingers from the tight hold. "Sweetie," You cooed, "Who made you sad? Who should I scold, hm?" Your voice was only a mere whisper as Sarang let her herself be guided to your chest, eventually nuzzling into it once enveloped by your arms, and your heart was to be broken when she burst into subtle sniffles, indicating that she was shedding tears. "Oh honey," You soothed while running your hands through her slightly knotted tresses, her little body shook in your arms and you could only bring her closer to your chest. "What's wrong honey, please tell me or unnie will cry too." The words seemed to convince her because when you leaned away to cup her chubby cheeks with your warm palms, she let you. Her droopy puppy eyes were puffy and red with tears as she sadly blinked her long, wet lashes at you. Her flushed cheeks crystalized by the salty water.
"D-daddy," She started but struggled to speak as the hiccups bubbling in her throat were strong and overpowering, shaking her small body. "Daddy don't play with Sarang no more, he dun love Sarang no more." Upon speaking the last sentence Sarang broke into tears again, letting out ugly cries filled with heartbreak and sadness.
"Sweetheart! Why are you talking like that, you know daddy loves you. He always will." You assured but deep inside you couldn't help but wonder what this whole situation was all about, you knew that Sarang wouldn't even utter such words if it wasn't for a valid reason.
She shook her head furiously, her eyebrows bending into a sulky frown, her lips pouty and pointing downward. "Dad only talks with other unnie, he forgets about Sarang." The tears were still pooling in her eyes and slowly trailing down her kissable cheeks. It pained you to listen to what she was saying, although you knew that she was innocently exaggerating some details. It didn't take a genius to realize it, children had strong emotions and experienced things very animatedly.
"I don't want daddy to fall in love anymore." A great portion of your conscious was screaming that this was your fault after all. It was only because of you if Baekhyun had met new people, leading him to spend lesser time with his daughter. But even if you apologized to the child, she wouldn't completely understand the connections, so you settled with caressing her cheeks, with your thumb, and brushed away the tear stains.
"Sarang," A soft smile blossomed on your lips as you thought about how much Baekhyun adored Sarang. "Daddy loves you so much, more than anyone else.  But sometimes he too can get caught with other people. It's normal, do you understand that?" She nodded hesitantly. "Since daddy is forgetful, and a bit dumb too," You playfully whispered the last part, prompting her to let out a giggle although her glossy eyes. "He needs someone like Sarang to remind him whenever too much, is too much. Would you do that for him, Sarang?" This time, the little girl seemed far brighter as he bobbed her head up and down, soon a smile taking place on her lips. "Then go tell daddy why you are angry now, go scold him. Grr!" You growled playfully and formed your hands into claws, to which she imitated gleefully, repeating the sound of a little tigress.
When her happy gurgles had died down, Sarang crossed her arms on her chest in a fierce demeanor and pouted angrily. You raised an amused brow and had to press your lips together so that you wouldn't laugh. "Do I look scary?" She whispered secretly, curiosity and question marks sparkled within her orbs and you nodded enthusiastically, ushering her to step outside where Baekhyun had been waiting all this time, probably nerve-wracked.
The man's face brightened like the sun when Sarang stepped out of her room with you following close behind. Without wasting a single second, he crouched on the floor and opened his arms for her to step inside them, but was caught off guard when Sarang intimidatingly crossed her arms over her chest just like she had done with you two minutes ago. " I am angry at daddy!" She spouted right in his face, not bothering to put it into a nicer way. Baekhyun was shocked, almost scandalized for that matter and you had to drill your teeth into your lip to not burst into laughter.
"B-baby- what?" He stammered, clearly taken aback. His arms that had been inviting her into a hug slowly fell limp next to his sides.
"Daddy, you always go out and forget about Sarang." The child pointed out to the father whose eyes widened with realization, regret slowly but surely taking over every inch of his being.
"I feel like daddy don't care about me no more," The anguish burst through the tough behavior that she had tried to pull off in the begging, the playfulness by now long gone and both you and Baekhyun saw how her already swollen eyes had started to water again. Baekhyun felt like her heart had broken right in his hands and he felt so angry at himself, disappointed. So much for being a better father, only for it to hurt the most important person in his life.
"Oh sweetheart, I-" Even he choked on the lump in the throat, tears immediately reached his waterline to blurry out his view. You felt like you weren't supposed to stand right there and witness such a scene, but it wasn't like you could leave either.
"I am so sorry," He gasped and desperately reached out for Sarang who thankfully did not move away and instead let her father embrace her. His face was nuzzled into her little shoulder while his beautiful hand was in a constant caressing motion at the back of her head, whispering sorrowful apologies to her ears.
"I- I just wanted you to be happier, I wanted to find someone so that you could have a mommy again. But instead, I hurt you, and daddy is so sorry, will you forgive him?" Baekhyun explained to his girl while rocking their bodies slowly from side to side, his voice by now weak and threatening to break at any second. Sarang abruptly leaned away from his chest, wearing a disbelieved frown on her face.
"But Sarang don't need a mommy! Sarang has daddy and unnie, is enough!" She scolded her own dad for not knowing any better although she had made it clear to him that having a mother wasn't a necessity at this point, yet not truly understanding that Baekhyun needed someone to love him that way. She was indeed, still too young for that conversation. However, the male tried to put it in a simpler way.
Ever so gently, he tucked a few strands of her hair behind her ear, a tender, an extremely sweet smile blossomed on his lips, and even just seeing him making that face was enough for the butterflies to wildly flutter their wings against the walls of your tummy.  You wanted to look away but you simply couldn't, he was like the sun, and like its flower, you kept yourself gazing at him.
"Sarang, sweetheart." He initiated calmly, "I know that is how you feel, and dad is happy that you are content." His voice was soothing, a mere feather running along with your ears as he pronounced each and every word slowly so that he was sure that she could understand all of it. Not so subtly, he looked up at you and met your magnetic gaze before continuing. "However, even people like daddy and unnie need someone who loves them as a mother and father does to each other," Baekhyun concluded and guided his eyes towards his daughter again, who seemed to get a hold of the concept he was. Although not completely happy with the answer, she nodded understandingly, looking down at her feet and in the process cast a faint shadow of her lashes down her apple round cheeks.
"Thank you for understanding, Sarang. I love you, baby." Baekhyun sincerely said before trapping the little girl in his embrace again, extremely joyful about the fact that she had wrapped her short arms around his neck back. She had forgiven him.
"What do you think about a movie night? Every day for the next week?" He then suggested enthusiastically, approving the thought of canceling a couple of dates with the girl. After all, he had every right to spend time with his daughter. It was about time that he started setting his priorities straight again. Little Sarang let out an excited squeal that made Baekhyun flinch back and painfully hold his ear while he cringed at the bouncing girl in his arms. Relief settled onto your heart while watching the forgive each other, not stopping the soft smile from crawling on your lips.
With a satisfied sigh, you excused yourself. "Well then, I'll take my leave." You announced briefly and readied yourself to reach the front door. Baekhyun and Sarang stopped playing with each other and unintentionally whined at the same time, in the same way, making you crack up the slightest. Baekhyun scrambled to his feet and hurried to stand in front of you, a shy look crossing his delicate face, making you want to just- cup his cheeks so bad and just shower them with lov- No. Contain yourself.
"No, don't leave."
"Huh?
"Stay. After all, it is thanks to you that we solved this matter." Baekhyun proposed with a proud smile on his lip, one that you couldn't reciprocate. You shook your head in disagreement.
"No, Baekhyun. It's my fault that this happened." You said dejectedly, finding a sudden interest in your shoes, missing the disapproving frown that Baekhyun had upon hearing your words.
"Hey," He had beckoned lowly, ever so slightly warningly as his gentle fingers had to your surprise, clasped around your chin, tilting your face upwards so that you could meet his sincere orbs. They were pooling with such raw emotions that overwhelmed you, crashed upon you even though you couldn't figure out a single one of them. The warmth from his delicate fingertips seeped into your skin and yet, that sudden proximity still managed to send shooting starts down your spine.
"That is absolutely not true." Baekhyun murmured, "Please don't feel that way." You had no idea if it had been your eyes playing hallucinating, but at one point, his dark, droopy gaze had fallen from your eyes to the south of your face. The action was subtle, perhaps could've been seen as innocuous, but it set your heart on fire, it went crashing against your ribs- rebelling against your thoughts and begging to burst through your chest. He was too close and you found yourself completely unable to get a hold of your emotions. You had felt how the tongue had tied itself into a knot in your mouth, cold sweat prickling at your skin. Why he was having such a dramatic effect on your body, you couldn't tell and it frustrated you so much- to not function properly in his proximity. Since when had things become this way?
"Just stay and watch a few movies with us, it's been a while anyways. We... I miss having you around." The pleading in his voice was genuine and it didn't fail to squeeze your heart longingly, you felt so damn wanted at that moment that despite your hesitant self, you still found yourself nodding at his request. You had waited for the moment he'd ask you to spend time with him again, where it could just be you, him, and the little Sarang. Maybe, he hadn't completely forgotten about you completely after all.  A relieved and thankful smile bloomed on Baekhyun's pretty lips as you agreed, his hands immediately reached for yours like it was all they had ever longed for, taking you to the living room.
The title of the movie appeared proudly on the Tv screen as you and Sarang entered the living room. Baekhyun had dragged you there right away, but you had insisted to get Sarang in her pajama before doing anything else. The man was already sprawled on the couch in his light blue pajama, its slight oversize made his portions shrink in the silky fabric, nonetheless looked immaculate. With his brown hair looking absolutely soft and caressive and a soft hue spreading on his shiny cheeks, a color that made your eager fingers twitch in the urge to reach out and touch them. His skin that always looked so flawless no matter from where you gazed,  you wondered if it was as soft as it seemed, or if it also was surrounded by a gentle scent of lotion-like his pretty hands often were. You knew because your skin was now bearing a certain fragrance that he had transmitted to you when holding your hand in his. For some reason, you couldn't stop concentrating on the flowery scent now emanating from your hands.
If you'd smell it from close- you'd probably get drunk on it. On him.
Had you just admitted that?
Sarang was radiating excitement as she ran to the couch, jumping on it like the bunny she was and snuggled immediately next to Baekhyun who wordlessly brought her closer, placing an affectionate kiss on her crown. Teeth were drilled in your lip as you took a seat, for your own sanity keeping a distance that usually wouldn't be there. Sitting by the end of the couch, you earned two confused looks from both Baekhyun and Sarang.
Baekhyun looked you up and down with an incredulous look, almost mockingly as he chuckled out loud. "What are you doing," He deadpanned, leaning across the couch to grip your arm. "You're acting weird today," Baekhyun pointed out, " just come here." He chimed as he with a gentle force dragged you next to him, throwing an arm around your shoulders so that you wouldn't escape. "There we go," He hummed contently, tightening his hold around you and Sarang who was in your same position but on the opposite side. For a moment you went completely frozen in your spot, the parts of your body that brushed his was all you could concentrate on. How scorching hot his skin was on yours, scalding you. As if you were the fuel, it took Baekhyun only a single touch for you to turn into a fire. It was as if the air in your lungs had been sucked out within a mere second, leaving you to gasp for oxygen. He- Baekhyun was so close, too close. He really shouldn't be so forward with you, putting his hand on your hip and gripping it casually, you wished you could tell him to take it easy on you, that you couldn't handle it if he did that kind of things. Your heart was weak, so extremely weak and already beating at such a speed, you feared it'd combust. You feared that he would feel it drumming and vibrating like a bass through your shaking body. And yet, you couldn't bring yourself to move away.
You couldn't bring yourself to even articulate a single word, there was a whole dance school going on in your belly.
You were melting in his embrace, and you wanted to.
"My princesses," Baekhyun cooed, his voice sounded as if it was dripping with honey and affection when he pressed another kiss to Sarang's head, and to your utter, beautiful disbelief, on yours too. Baekhyun's lips that you had never expected to ever have anywhere near your skin were now tenderly pressing a fond kiss to your temple. When he leaned slightly away, his candy scented breath melted into your skin before he closed the gap once again and pecked you once more, making you straight out tremble. Baekhyun's nape was right next to your nose as you had allowed yourself  (despite your nervous body) to cuddle into him like he had wanted you to, and you had to fight the urge to lean in and run your nose down his neck and breathe in the dazing scent coming from his fresh skin. There wasn't a single second where your whole being hadn't craved to drift even closer to him that night.
After a while, Sarang finally fell into a deep slumber in the arms of her father. It had been predictable that she wasn't going to last much longer, all that crying had for sure drained her energies. Baekhyun got up to put her to sleep, but soon returned and sat back on his spot. Not forgetting to make sure he could have his body in contact with yours, and so the two of you continued to watch movies until the late night.
***
As slumber was slowly leaving your body, all you could subconsciously remark was that you hadn't slept this well in a long time. A few parts of your body were aching due to the awkward position that you weren't completely aware of yet. A content, lazy smile was on your lips when your body became conscious of the comforting warmth provided, it was combining with your own and crawling soothingly to reassure every inch of your body. But the more you slipped into awakeness, although your eyes were still closed shut with sleep, you realized that it wasn't really a blanket keeping you warm as you had believed just a few moments ago. Frowning groggily, you slowly allowed your eyes to flutter open, meeting one of the most breathtaking scenes you had ever taken part of. For a moment all you could think was that there was an angel lying next to you, an angel was holding you in his arms and he looked beautiful as if he had stepped out of a painting and blessed you with his presence.
In the span of a few seconds, your heartbeat had sped up, only to sooner calm down, its excitement morphing into a warmth that allowed flowers to bloom in your tummy. Their petals were tickling you and their roots were carving the beautiful letters of his name into your heart. His wavy hair was messily scattered over his forehead, on his crown it stuck into every direction but nonetheless- beautiful. A beautiful mess. Baekhyun's lips were slightly parted as soft sneers tumbled out of them. The eyelashes were glittering in the golden rays of the sun peeking through the blinders, like small diamonds adorning a ring. Their length reached the flushed apples of his cheeks, kissing them and casting a sweet shadow. You smiled fondly at the innocent view, at the warm blush that traveled from his left cheek, up the bridge of his nose and onto the right cheek, a soft hue that made him look so gorgeously young. His face completely free of any frown, indicating that he was having a peaceful sleep. Like he wasn't carrying so many struggles on his own, he looked like a carefree kid having his afternoon nap.
You felt yourself melting before him, Baekhyun's limbs were hugging your hips close to himself and his hands lazily claimed your waist while his fingertips teased the exposed skin of your back. The organ in your chest swelled, filling itself with so much affection and raw emotions, it swelled and swelled until you felt it pounding against your ribs. As if it was begging to break free and intertwine itself with Baekhyun's. Your eyes traced his tender features as he slept, so peaceful and mild, you wished the world could stop in this instant so that you could forever share this warmth with him. So that you could forever be embraced by his strong arms, protected, loved. So that you could forever bask in his scent that was sweet and soapy, mixed with the freshness of wood.
Another smile found its way on your lips as you pondered.
Indeed, loving Baekhyun was as easy as hating the cops.
Indeed-
Loving...
Loving Baekhyun.
The realization hit you like an ice-cold waterfall cutting through your body, air hitching inside of your throat as your eyes widened like saucers. Suddenly the flowers blooming in your chest felt like thorns scratching and cutting your insides. No, oh fuck no.
You should've known that the butterflies had been a red flag all along. With your chest heaving for oxygen, you re scrambled from your laying position, making Baekhyun stir awake at the sudden violent movements.
You liked him... No, you fucking loved him. You loved Baekhyun so much and it was so fucked up that you were helping him get together with someone else instead of making your feelings clear for him.
You had no idea why you felt so unnerved all of a sudden, but your thoughts were swirling all over your the place into a jumbled mess, making you breathless and utterly confused, all you knew was that you needed to leave the house and just getaway. Get away from him.
The heart jumped all the way to your throat when his voice suddenly ringed through the walls. Husky and tired, it called your name questioningly, making you freeze in your steps as you saw him entering the hallway you were standing in.
"What's going on?" He yawned, "Where are you going?"He pouted, which you really couldn't handle at the moment. Even in your panicked state, your brain found a way to remark how unfairly adorable Baekhyun was at the moment, rubbing the sleep out of his eye, the paw of his hand peeking from the oversized sleeve while standing there like a confused puppy. In his question lingered an unspoken request for you to stay longer, but at the moment all you really needed was some alone time to accept this new realization.
"I..." You had no idea what to say for yourself and you hoped he wouldn't dig too deep. "I have to go to work! Oh my God, I am actually very late- shit!" The words that left your trembling lips were completely random and made no sense as you started wearing your shoes and picked up your bag. Movements were extremely messy and rushed. Stupid! You cursed yourself, it was a freaking Sunday and there was no way Baekhyun was going to believe that. Despite the confused (and adorable) frown causing a tiny crease on his forehead, he didn't question it. It seemed like your hasty behavior had been enough to fool his groggy self.
"Will you come by next week?" Baekhyun then asked before you could curl your hand against the handle. Suddenly it felt like the lump in your throat had grown inches- and kept on expanding as another realization dawned on you.
He had told you just last night how he would be having another date next week since he had postponed the one from yesterday to focus more on his daughter. And you had, with a smile, agreed.
You would be going to his house, only for him to exit it, to meet another woman, and this fact that hadn't given you more than a little twinge in your chest yesterday was now devastating you.
Baekhyun was already entering another relationship- and although you had known that, until today, it had never meant anything to you. But now all of a sudden, you did bother because you knew that you so much wanted to be that girl he would be smiling at- and perhaps even kissing every day. Gosh, you wanted him all for yourself but wishing was so fucking useless at the moment. You had already thrown away your chance and Baekhyun already belonged to someone. And that someone was not you.
Nothing had been established and yet it still felt like your heart was breaking. Even so, why was it so damn painful? Why did it need to feel like someone was ripping it to shreds, clenching it with no mercy? Perhaps, because as beautiful as love could seem, be and feel, it was bound to hurt you just as much when gone wrong.
Be aware of butterflies, they had said, because they'll break your heart.
To pieces.
It had always sounded ridiculous to you, but there you were experiencing the exact thing. Your heart was crumbling, falling in the pit of your stomach as your teeth drew blood from your lips to stop them from trembling. All you could offer the man was a nod before escaping behind the door because the last thing you could trust at that point was your voice.
Although now outside, the fresh air did not help your suffocating lungs as you gasped out the sob that you had been holding in for the entire time in there. Tears blurred your view but you furiously dried them with your sleeve as you hurried over to your car. The fabric of your jacket rubbing against your eyes hurt more than what you had thought and you found yourself cursing under your breath, cursing everything you had done and everything that came into your view. It did not make you feel better at all. What were you supposed to do when everything you had was crumbling upon you?
A weight had laid itself upon your chest from the very moment you had opened that door of his, and you knew, that it was going to be with you for a while.
***
The week was rushing by and although you had done nothing but immerse yourself in your job to forget and concentrate on other things that weren't the pain in your chest and the desperate longing for his presence, you still felt as if nothing had changed. It still felt like that Sunday where you had left Baekhyun's property with tears in your eyes had yet to come to an end. Indeed, the week passed by and you followed your routine, but no matter where your body would go during the days, your mind wouldn't budge from that one morning where for a few moments, everything had been so perfect and ever so ethereal, only for it to be like a window busted by a rock.
You were frustrated with yourself because you couldn't wrap your head around it and let it go. It was all you wanted at the moment, to just accept things as they were and end this pain. But your heart was stubborn like you had never asked it to be. So loyal to that boxy and toothy smile of his. Friday was nearing and your heart could just race anxiously at the reminder of babysitting Sarang. You were nowhere ready to face him again, the part of you who was a coward secretly hoped that Baekhyun would be out by the time you'd arrive so that you could indulge solely in Sarang's warm smile. It'd be just helpful if you could forget his at some point, that would hurt a lot less, wouldn't it?
What hurt even more, was how you knew, that he was clueless about all of this pain he was causing you, and you couldn't put a single blame on him.
It had been you, after all.

Friday, a little over 6 pm. Perhaps you had come a bit late on purpose, but you wouldn't admit that to yourself as you stood in right before his front door and swung nervously on the balls of your feet. Conflicted between knocking or just entering casually as you normally would. If you knocked, it wasn't like the little Sarang would be tall enough to open the door, but what if Baekhyun would supposedly still be at home for whatever reason when you went in? That would feel even more awkward and-
Your hand twitched and before you knew it, you had already swung the door open, as if your body was fed up with your overthinking and took matters into its own hands. Quite literally. Well, no turning back now, you encouraged yourself and walked in while muttering a small I'm here. It was odd to not have a bubbly Sarang running with all her might to latch her arms around your legs and give you the happiest greeting. Instead, you were met with deafening silence, though you knew that you weren't alone in the house as it had been unlocked. The more you walked your way inside, the clearer the noise of glasses clinking against each other became. Rounding the corner, you were met with the last thing you had expected to see. A defeated Baekhyun arranging liquors and alcoholic drinks on the table, a few shot glasses stood unused by the bottles and you supposed that he hadn't even gotten started yet. You completely forgot about the worries that had been eating you up just a few seconds ago and walked over to him, grabbing his wrist before he could pour himself the string liquid you knew he couldn't handle.
"What are you doing?" You regretted how accusing your question had come out, but soon your cleared your throat and spoke again, "Why are you here at home, what about Sarang?" This time you spoke softly and allowed your gaze to lock with his confused one that within a matter of seconds filled with realization. A groan left his lips as he buried his face into his palms.
"Sorry, I forgot to tell you, I dropped her at my mother's,  you actually didn't need to come." Baekhyun seemed incredibly apologetic and regretful as he explained himself, but you couldn't bring yourself to concentrate on those emotions when his droopy orbs were swirling with something far more sorrowful. His eyes were dark, and deep like oceans and anyone else wouldn't have been able to read him at this moment. But you had dived into those eyes of his so many times before, you knew better than to believe that those lines of lack of sleep tracing his features were merely because of his exhausting job. Worry crawled into you and you took a seat in front of him, hesitantly brushing your fingertips against his only to feel the urge to flinch because they weren't as warm as they'd usually be when holding onto you.
"Baekhyun, what's wrong?" The question on its own managed to crack the facade he often wore to not worry anyone around him and to make himself believe he was fine when in reality he was anything but that. His eyebrows bent in sorrow and his eyes turned ever so slightly glossy, making a lump grow in your throat.
"I messed up," He confessed under his breath, his whisper breaking in the middle of his sentence. Baekhyun's hands were frustrated as they gripped at his hair, pulling slightly as he puffed out a desperate breath. "It's over. " A small tear escaped his eye and he growled frustratedly, drying it harshly.  "As soon as she knew about Sarang she cut the ties. What am I going to do at this point?!" He was on the verge of shouting, "I am not good enough for anyone, I'm so fucking done." You could see his adam's apple bobbing, reasonably attempting to swallow down the sob threatening to spill from his lips because he didn't need another person to witness him being weak for the millionth time.
No, please, don't ever say that. You wanted to tell him so bad, but you were such a coward, it was like your lips were sealed. When another tear traveled down his cheek, you finally found it in yourself to scramble out of your seat and sit next to him instead, taking his face into your trembling hands and shaking your head with disagreement.
"That is so not true, Baekhyun." You murmured brokenly. The fact that he would even for a second believe such a lie made you want to burst into tears. He was so beautiful, he was anything that someone could want in a person and more. It was so unfair that he didn't know. Baekhyun's expression was indecipherable even to you as he stared into your eyes with such seriousness, eventually tracing your features and you could feel his eyes dance all over your face.
Baekhyun cleared his throat after what seemed to have been five whole minutes, but really, had been a lot less. His hands gently pried yours from his cheeks and placed them back in your lap, eyeing the things he had set on the table before you had come. With a sigh, he uttered:
"Shall we have a couple of drinks?" The question was so out of the blue and yet managed to crack you up, and he smiled slightly too when he saw you doing it. You nodded.
Why not? He wasn't the only emotional one, and you had no idea what would be the outcome if the two of you got drunk together, but at the moment you couldn't care less. It finally felt as if that weight was slowly lifting itself from your chest, so all you could do was continue on this road you had ended upon.
***
Laughter and giggling were filling the once quiet walls of his home, Baekhhyun had just sputtered one of his stupid jokes that really, shouldn't have been as funny as it had seemed now that you were influenced by alcohol. Yet, you found yourself laughing intensely enough to have tears spring in your eyes. The man wore a proud grin on his face upon having you laugh so freely because of something he said. You weren't completely drunk just yet- but tipsy enough to have that warm hue crawl along your face, giving both of you a shy look, but that shy look secretly hid a sudden braveness that only came with the strong drink. One that made you feel the bravest you've ever been, at the same time as an enhanced version of yourself, possibly, a little out of yourself too. But it didn't matter anymore.
Your loud voices eventually died down and Baekhyun leaned his head onto the table when hit by a sudden wave of sleepiness and dizziness. His cheek squashed against its surface and in the process hid his eye as he faced you in his position. He looked at you and you gazed back, leaning onto your palm to take in his every detail, only to feel a sudden sense of unfairness surge within you, anger sparked in your chest as you picked up your beer bottled and swung it in the air while gesticulating.
"I don't understand!" Your loud voice made the sleepy male flinch back awake, he eyed you with big eyes and question marks popping above of his head. "You!" You pointed an accusatory finger in his direction and the confused male winced once again, not knowing what to expect from you, whether he'll feel offended or confused by the possible nonsense about to leave your mouth. But that wasn't really it.
"You're so beautiful." The statement was nothing like what he had expected you to say and the shock was evident on his flushed face. The more you looked at his pink cheeks, the more you wanted to squish his them together and press your lips to his plump ones that currently looked like your favorite lollipop flavor. "And I do not understand how three women in a row rejected all this good that you are! Like can't they see?!" You slurred and pointed at him once more. "
"Byun Baekhyun, if I was them, I would've already been your girlfriend, loving both you and Sarang. They are dumb. They are dumb, you hear me?!" Your voice was slightly high-pitched as you spoke, the words you were uttering were making your heart beat faster because you knew that you were basically confessing, but the sudden braveness was clouding your senses. All you could think about was that you wanted him to know.
"You are perfect- Byun Baekhyun," Your head dropped gently on the table right in front of his and the table felt cool on your cheek which made you feel more awake. Not enough to back away though. "Repeat after me," You ordered, without realizing the meaningful look that Baekhyun was manifesting in his starry eyes while following your every movement.
"I am perfect-" You felt yourself freeze when suddenly consciousness was knocked into you with the simple caress of Baekhyun's strawberry breath on your cheeks. Without a warning, he had scooted closer to you, his hand reached out for your own and thunders seemed to spark from his fingertips as they met yours, gently tracing your palm and intertwining your fingers with his beautiful ones. From a little more than tipsy to completely sober in the span of a few seconds, it was absolutely odd but even so, you couldn't find it in yourself to willingly move away. Because you didn't want to.
Butterflies fluttered in your belly- and the sensation brought you to fear, however,  Baekhyun's familiar scent fell on you like the warmest, most comforting blanket, and you soon forgot about anything that wasn't him. His face from this close was like the most precious treasure, you loved how you could count his lashes from this nearness, being able to see the texture of his skin or stare at your own reflection in his sparkling, adoring mirrors.
As much as those features of his were mesmerizing, nothing could even remotely come close to those pink lips of his that glistened under the dim kitchen lights has he darted a slow, and careful tongue across them, and the action made a foreign heat gather in your core. Unconsciously, your legs pressed together. You wanted them on yours so bad. His breath on your mouth was teasing and making you impatient. Teeth dug into your lip as you held back the urge to close the distance, Baekhyun was just taking his time studying yours as if he had to find the perfect way to kiss them with, eyes hooded with desire. A wave of disappointment washed over you when you felt his hand untangle from yours, but it didn't last long as he soon enough had already cupped your cheek with it. He wasted no time in bringing his thumb to your caged lips and released them from the hold of your teeth, letting them fall apart and vulnerable. They were pulsing eagerly, longing for his to devour them.
His thumb still held the fine edge of your lower lip as he inched closer, expanding it and feeling its soft texture with his pad. You watched his eyelids fall over his orbs as he gently licked the part of your lips that he was pulling and the gasp you let out at the sensation melted on his caressing tongue. His wet pillows stuck to yours like sticky glue as he finally pressed them against yours. A trembling sigh left your lips when you finally got what you wanted. He shifted from the table without parting your lips, keeping you engaged in the hungry kiss. You hadn't even noticed how he had dragged you up to your feet only so that he could press you against the nearest wall and press his scorching body against yours. Baekhyun's teeth dug softly into your lip before soothing it with a suck, later dragging his lips down your jaw, your neck, and painted your skin with his tickling kisses. The heat in your core could only grow as his hands traced every inch of your body, thumbs pushing the fabric of your shirt so that they could draw circles on your hips.
He panted against your collarbone at the pleasant feeling of your lips on his ear and your heart swelled when his arms hugged your waist instead of touching it sensually as he had done a few seconds ago. Without a warning, he kissed you square on the lips once again, but you complied joyfully. "Jump, please," He muffled against your swelling lips, and you did, lacing your legs around his torso. His hand traced the lower part of your thighs, coming to rest on your bum. Although your clothes were separating you, his touch still felt like it burned on your skin. It made you feel alive as it traveled underneath your shirt, spreading on your back. Taking its time to feel every pattern of your flesh, bones. Like you were the most beautiful canvas and his fingers' the brushed itching to paint it.
Everything that was happened felt slow, but at the same time like a blur. Your head was spinning around as you suddenly found yourself in his bedroom, shakily unbuttoning his shirt. Your fingers were trembling uncontrollably, barely pushing the buttons out of the hole. Warmth crept on your cheeks because you were taking so long, but you couldn't help the excitement buzzing so violently through your body. You thought Baekhyun had gotten enough of your incapability when he suddenly grabbed your hands, stopping you from continuing. But Baekhyun had always been full of surprises. Your heart squirmed affectionately when he brought your hands to his face. "It's okay," He had murmured ever so gently as he pressed feathery kisses on your fingertips, lips enveloping your digits.
"I- I'm sorry," You stuttered, completely out of yourself as you resumed unbuttoning, this time successful, "It just feels like I'm unwrapping a gift I've been waiting for my whole life." You admitted quietly, hesitantly placing your hands on his sturdy shoulders, slowly pushing down his shirt, stripping him of it. His body was warm and tense underneath your touch, muscles hard and strong.
A sweet chuckle resonated through the walls and you wished you could've replayed it a thousand times again. The sun had set hours ago, leaving the bright full moon to paint his features in its silver, glittering linings. He looked even more mesmerizing than this morning, he just never stopped growing beautiful.
Baekhyun found it impossible not to kiss your flushed cheeks at your nervous antics. Pressing his forehead against yours, he let your hands go, just so that he could trace his finger along your protruding collarbone, eventually hooking around your spaghetti strap. "Can I?" He asked carefully, and you thought he never would've. You nodded and he wasted no time, face nuzzling into the crook of your neck, he lifted the hem of your shirt. A kiss was pressed to your shoulders before he leaned away so that you could lift your arms, helping him.
"My beautiful," He breathed out at the view of your naked torso, eyes brimming with adoration and affection like you truly were the most wonderful person he had ever seen, "Beautiful darling."
You had no idea how a moment could be such a blur but at the same time feel like the while you've been more alive than ever. From when his hands had explored your naked body, bosom swelling in his tender palms, giving him the chance to feel your beating heart pulsating against his fingers. His lips whispering the sweetest nothing's into your ear as he made sure you knew that you were beautiful. The moment you had been able to do just the same with him, giving him sensations to remember and treasure. Sensations that only you and he could ignite from each other.  Becoming one important thing together, one wonderful thing.
One.
***
It was late in the morning, but you felt like you could sleep for another ten hours. You felt completely exhausted as you stirred awake, stretching your limbs ever so slightly, only to wince at the sore sensation taking place in the lower parts of your body. Of course, you remembered. Although you had been under the influence of alcohol, there would've never been a chance that you would forget such a moment. Hence, you were happy, so happy that you felt tingles crawling through your body, shooting stars flying down your spine. Your whole being was like a starry night as you woke up to Baekhyun eyeing you with those droopy eyelids hooding lazily over his orbs. His arm was hugging your bare waist and he was staying in the position that he had woken up in, that alone should've been to answer your every question, but still, you felt the need to hear it from him. Though, before you could even open your mouth, Baekhyun had already beat you to it.
"I have to apologize."
What? Your heart fell to the pit of your stomach and you felt how the anxiety was crawling at every edge it could grip.
"I, I apologize for making love to you when I wasn't sober- I"
Making love.
Not sex. Love.
"Baekhyun. I love you." It was like his voice had been sucked back into his throat as you interrupted him with the words.  "Do you regret what we did?" You continued, and Baekhyun looked taken aback, to say the least, but he recovered quickly and shook his head with a soft smile blossoming on his lips.
"As I was saying, " He chuckled, "It's hard for me to wrap my head around the way everything happened. But I don't regret a single thing I said, neither anything I did." What he was saying settled a blissful relief in your chest and your eyes couldn't find something to settle on his beautiful face. Whether to gaze into his endless oceans or watch his swollen lips speak, or maybe the tiny moles scattered all over his face.
"I've been feeling it for a while. That I was just fooling myself, and those women I went out with. Because as amazing as they were, I realized that there isn't anyone else I'd like to spend my days apart from you." Honey dripped from his lips, indeed his words were too sweet, but they were directed towards you, and that solely felt like you were stepping onto could nine.
"Nobody knows me like you do," He murmured as he pressed a palm to your flushed cheek, the pad of his thumb drawing lazy circles on it. "Nobody loves Sarang like you do,"
"How could there ever be someone else when you're here, loving everything I am including my flaws, probably knowing me better than I do myself." He chuckled with disbelief as if he couldn't believe that he had actually tried to chase other women when the only one for him had been next to him all along.
"And as I've realized that I...That I love you, I won't apologize that our first time wasn't when I was completely aware and sober." Baekhyun pleaded for forgiveness, shifting so that he could hover over you, the blanket slipped down his naked body, exposing him slightly. But the truth was that you weren't angry at all.
"And I hope you'll let me do it again, but this time I'll do it right." He dipped his head down to murmur against your lips.
"Will you let me?" His hand had caressed along the lines of your body, fingers gently prying the cover from your bodies. In his eyes shone so much love, so much desire to show it all to you, how much you meant to him.
"You don't have to ask," You replied sweetly, already welcoming the petals dancing in your tummy, loving the traces of warmth his hands left on you, how he took his time to explore every inch of you so that he could know you like no one else did. So that he could love you like no one else did.
"Daddy!!!" Sarang's high pitched giggle cut through the thick tension that had built up between the two of you, prompting Baekhyun to look down at you with a terrified expression taking over his face.
"Daddy I'm home! Let's play!"
"You should go," You teased while laughing at him, to which he gave you a playful glare, a bit disappointed to postpone things.
"Daadddyyyy! Are you hiding?" Sarang insisted from wherever she was wandering, and you couldn't help but think to yourself, that you were ready. Ready to indulge into this relationship, ready to take Sarang in your arms as if she was your family. You were ready to face it all.
A sudden affectionate swelling took place in your heart and you couldn't stop yourself when you grabbed Baekhyun's cheeks in your hands and pulled him down for a gentle, lingering kiss.
"You should go before she sees us like this." You ushered him to hurry and he nodded in agreement, stealing another set of eager kisses. "Will do, my love" He whispered in your ear teasingly before rolling over the other side and getting ready to greet his impatient daughter.
It felt like it was only you and me in the world.
I fell in love with your smile. After that, I just love everything about you.
I think of you every day,
Stupid in love.
Fin.

Bloodsuckers I
Part 1 | Part 2 | Part 3 | | Part 4 | Part 5 | Part 6 | Part 7 | Part 8
Genre: Supernatural AU, angst?
Pairing: Vampire!Baekhyun x Reader
Word Count: 2404
A/N: This gets kinda graphic with the descriptions of violence so proceed with caution.
It’s 7 PM. The sun set 15 minutes ago and the sky is still full of dim blue light. It’s my fourth round around the area. I’m getting impatient but I try my best to keep my features trained to innocence. It is just as I’m turning a corner to start my fifth round that I sense the first movement behind me. The excitement almost makes me falter, but I maintain my pace. I head in the direction of my rental place.
I don’t hear another sound, not even the soft footfalls for a solid 10 minutes. Had I imagined the sound before? Had this stupid circling made me crack so now I was making things up? What could I do though? If I circled back around and he was following me, he would get suspicious. Even if someone was following me, there was no guarantee it was him. I had tried my best to be alluring yet subtle. Little cuts over my legs and upper arms - just enough to get the scent of blood out in the air, but not make it too obvious.
If my research had been right, he would wait until I’m home to attack. He liked to leave his victims’ dead bodies in their own homes. I quicken my pace a little bit. It was out of excitement for hopefully it would read as nerves at being out late.
I reach the door and pretend to fumble around for my keys in my bag. I feel his presence behind me a second before he reaches to grab me. I duck instantly. Not expecting me to be prepared, he falters for a moment in surprise. One moment is all I need. I twist around and kick at his legs, making him fall right against the main door. He screams a little at the unexpected contact. The steel plate I had placed there before leaving had done its job. I smile internally as I reach for the blade I had attached at my thigh. I am up and my hand his gripping the back of neck before he has even moved away from the door.
“Wai-“ he starts, but I am faster than him. I have stabbed him through the heart before he completes his sentence. He falls to the floor. The blade wasn’t steel so eventually, he would heal but it would still take a while. I pull another blade, this one steel, and stab his leg, deep, to make sure he won’t be going anywhere for a while. Then, I head inside.
I have the set up ready already. I grab the steel chain and wrap it around his neck, dragging him inside. I lift him to the chair and continue to wrap the chain around his body. It’s only after I am done that I look up at his face. For a second, I am taken aback. Half his face is an angry red color from where it hit the steel, but he is beautiful. I shake my head to clear it. This was some evolution thing. He was beautiful so he could attract victims. He was no more than a predator.
But tonight, he would be my prey. He is breathing hard. He looks to be in actual pain. Good, I think, pulling out the steel blade from where I had stuck it in his thigh. I had other blades of course, but I’ve learned there’s something about seeing their own blood covering a weapon that gets people talking a lot faster.
I take a step back and lean against the counter facing him.
“Byun Baekhyun.” I say, a smile playing at my lips. “The elusive vampire they call the Ghost.” I stop playing with the knife and raise a brow. In a flash, the blade is flying out of my hands and embedding into the wood above his shoulder. A drop of blood rolls down his shoulder from where the knife has grazed his grazed lightly. “You seem pretty corporeal to me.” He doesn’t say anything. He doesn’t look at me. He doesn’t even fight his bonds.
“Oh, come on now, don’t be like that. Aren’t you curious why you’re here? In this…predicament?” He keeps his mouth shut. I get off the counter and start walking around him.
“See, Baekhyun, I need you.” I pull the blade out from the chair. “Well, I need a vampire, but once I got to know about you. Ooooo” I run my blade against his jaw, leaving a red line in its wake. “I just couldn’t resist the challenge. Though I have to admit, catching you was a lot easier than expected. But breaking you? Hmm. That might yet provide some fun.”
I complete my circle around him and face him once again. “So what do you say Baekhyun? Are we doing this the easy way? Or the fun way?”
“What do you want?” He grits out.
“So he does talk.” I pause again. “I want to be a vampire,” I say. I expect to laugh, to realize that he holds the cards here and just deny me outright, or quickly agree to do what I want so we can both get out of here quickly. But his reaction is so surprising I actually break character for a second. His eyes go wide and he shakes his head furiously, I can see the chain around his neck rubbing his burnt skin open at the action but he doesn’t stop. “No, you can’t.” He looks almost scared.
I pull myself out of the shock at his reaction and get back into character. “Oh, I’m sorry, baby. But you aren’t calling the shots here.” I grab his hair and pull his head back, my other hand placing the blade at the exposed area of his throat. “So, tell me, how does it work?” I had researched this too of course. I knew it had something to do with his bite. Most probably something in his saliva. But there was a lot of theories about the actual process, and I had no idea which to trust.
“You don’t understand.” He hisses at me, his eyes are full of fire. “You don’t want to end up like this. It’s not worth it.”
What the hell was wrong with him? Was seriously warning me against the being a vampire?
“You don’t know my life. Maybe it is worth it for me.” Something flashes in his eyes, but it is gone before I can process it and he says after a careful pause. “Whatever it is, I promise you, it’s not worth it.”
“Just tell me how,” I say, digging the blade deeper in his skin. He flinches from the pain but doesn’t speak. “HOW?” I ask again, but it seems like he’s gone back to his strategy of muteness.
I get off him and head to a side table where some of the more interesting weapons lay. Tonight was gonna be a long night, I think, before picking up a saw and turning back around.
I’ve been going at him for nearly two hours, and am considering taking a break and letting him stew in his wounds for a while when he speaks, “It takes days of pain, okay?” His voice is gruff from what I can only assume is holding back his screams of pain. “Endless, unfathomable pain. And the survival rate is minuscule. Everything needs to be perfect for it to work. And even if you survive, you end up like this. Pathetic, half-dead, and other. It’s not worth it, no matter what you think.”
“None of that is what I asked. I want to know how to do it. The rest is my problem, not yours.” But he doesn’t respond again. I sign internally. How the fuck had I found the most uncooperative vampire on this fucking planet?
It takes about an hour more before he starts talking again. I am breaking his fourth finger, having already wrecked the first three beyond repair. Or at least, beyond repair for the time being. He would heal soon enough. “You have to kill yourself!” I pause my action, the tiny hammer raised high.
“What?” I ask. I’m a little concerned I’ve literally imagined him speaking.
“To complete the process. That’s why it's so hard! After- after I bite you, my saliva-or whatever is in it that makes the process possible- it needs to spread throughout your body. And then you kill yourself. If you kill yourself too early, or too late, after your system has already started processing it out, that’s it. You just stay dead. You have to find the exact perfect time in order to turn.” He says it all through gritted teeth like he doesn’t want to tell me any of this.
I stare at him blankly. He is drenched in sweat, his hair is sticking to his forehead. His shirt and pants are in tatters from where I’ve cut him over and over again. He is breathing hard and his eyes almost look like he is pleading with me. But I’ve hit the gold mine. So that’s how it worked.
“Bite me,” I say. It comes out in a soft whisper, the threatening act forgotten at the prospect of finally getting what I want. His eyes go wide. It seems like he’d only given up that information to finally convince me to give up. “No-” “Bite me,” I say, more firm this time. I had injected enough people with enough shit to know how fast things spread in the body. Considering the consistency of his saliva, I could make a rough guess at when to kill myself so it worked. Of course, it could all go wrong and I could just simply end up dead. But I was willing to take that risk.
He sets his jaw. “No.” He says. I was getting irritated now. I was so close, so close. But this stupid vampire would rather get tortured than just bite me and make this easier on both of us. I am much more vicious and a lot less calculated with my strikes now. “For. Fuck’s. Sake. Just. BITE. ME.” I say, slashing at his chest with each strike. But he doesn’t budge so easily.
After 20 mins, I bring out the electrocution equipment. I’ve been going for so long that I’m actually exhausted. But each time he passes me a nugget of information, I get more invested and the thought of giving up evaporates from my mind.
It takes two shocks before he starts screaming. Three more until his fangs pop out. I don’t even think he has control over them anymore. I am too fast for him to retract them tho. I slash my wrist and shove it in his mouth. He is depleted. He’s been losing blood for hours. He can help but suck. One bite is all I need. Almost as soon as his fang sink into my flesh, I rip my arm out of his mouth. It tears my skin but I don’t care. I wasn’t going to lose any more blood than necessary.
I walk away from him to look for some piece of cloth to wrap around my wrist. Now it was only a matter of time. I am trying to do some quick math in my head to figure out when to end my life when I hear his pleas.
“Stop, Y/N, please stop.” He sounds broken, destroyed. But that is not what makes me freeze.
“How do you know my name?” I say in a low voice. This was not part of the plan. If he knew my name, he probably knew I was coming for him beforehand. For all I know, a whole squadron of vampires is about to come and once they saw what I had done to Baekhyun….Panic starts to flare in my chest and I try desperately to calm it down. I grab the steel blade from the floor where I had dropped it and press it right over his heart. If I pushed in, that was it. He would be dead and I would be fresh out of options for being turned. But I would have to do it if I was at risk here. “I asked you how you know my name?” I bite out.
“I-I’ve known about for a while.” I dig my blade in deeper and a fresh drop of blood sprouts out of his chest. “How?“
“Did you really think someone with your skills will not stick out on the streets of this tiny ass town?” My eyes narrow at him, and he continues, “When you moved here, and started stirring up trouble poking your head in places it didn’t belong, I had to look into you.” He averts his eyes. “I know about your parents. Your brother. The whole cover up.”
I grind my teeth, and move back from him. My mind was reeling. He knew too much. “Did you know I’d be coming?”
“Of course not.” He spits out. “Do I look like an idiot? Why would I follow you if I knew you were you?” His voice grows softer again. “I’m serious. Don’t turn. There are other ways to get what you want. Don’t condemn yourself to this life. You’ll regret it. I promise you, you will.”
“What do you care?!” I snarl at him. Vaguely, I realize time is passing. If he stalls me for long enough, I’m going to miss my window of opportunity. I quickly glance at the clock. I had about a minute more. Or at least I hoped I did.
His voice is hard when he replies. “Don’t you understand, you fool. I am a vampire. I know what the cost is.”
I narrow my eyes at him. It sounded plausible but I didn’t buy it. Anyway, I was out of time for chit chat. I go to grab the blade again.
“Wait! Wait!” Baekhyun sounds urgent now. “Before you do this, you should know- the sire bond between a new vampire and a sire, it’s intense. It will mess with your head. It will-“ But I am not listening anymore. If he was doing this to stall me, he would fail.
I take the blade and stab it straight through my heart. Baekhyun’s shocked scream is the last thing I hear before I fall. And then there is only pain.

i am good ! i hope you are good and healthy too 🖤ooo this is not confusing, i hope i can write it to your liking :’) thank you so much :D
Here for You - Baekhyun
Warnings: angst!
Tumblr media
When you first found out your ex cheated on you, you were a mess. It was hard to eat, hard to sleep, and hard to live your usual life. You spent a long time in your room, cocooned under the sheets. Never one to miss a lot of classes, your ex’s terrible actions had ruined you. Suddenly you were never at class and rarely left the house.
Baekhyun was your hero. He was your saviour and best friend, there with you through it all. He was the only one who checked up on you, who sent you lecture notes you missed. He wasn’t angry at you for locking yourself away, like everyone else was, but he was there for you, always asking if you wanted him to stop by and bring food.
He was the only person you spoke to for those few weeks when you were feeling so low. He patiently waited for you to heal. Somehow, his kind heart helped you get through it, and you tried to attend classes again.
Since your ex was in the same program as you and Baekhyun, it was hard to not run into them. They were always in the lecture hall, somewhere on campus. Every time their eyes met yours, they would give you a sad smile, as if they were the victim. It made you so angry that Baekhyun would always have to help you calm down.
“It’s okay, don’t look at them. Let’s go get your favourite drink, okay?”
You always felt so nervous seeing them and couldn’t go anywhere on campus alone. Baekhyun was there for you. He always asked you what time you would be on campus so he could meet you when you arrived, and he walked everywhere with you. If he ever saw your ex before you, he would make sure to distract you so you wouldn’t see them.
“[y/n],” he’d say while gently pulling your arm. “I’m craving donuts; let’s go find some!”
But if you ever saw your ex before Baekhyun did, which happened a lot, he would let you hold his arm and bury your face into his chest.
“It’s okay, [y/n],” he’d say while rubbing your back. “Let’s get out of here.”
Sometimes your ex had tried to approach you, but Baekhyun never let that happen. He would always drag you out of the room to go somewhere else.
All of Baekhyun’s kindness made you feel bad. He was doing do much for you, and you didn’t know how to thank him. When you told Baekhyun this, he smiled at you warmly, looking at his hands underneath the table that the two of you were sitting at.
“Don’t say that, [y/n]. I’m your friend, this is what we do. I know you’d do the same; I know how kind you are. I’m here for you, okay?”

An Uncomfortable Christmas
Pairing: Byun Baekhyun x female reader
Genre: exes to lovers au / angst / fluff ending / christmas au
Warnings: emotional angst, swearing, one bed trope, major miscommunication, mention of cheating
Prompt: “Lie still.” - #21 of Idea Starters
Word count: 3148
Tumblr media
The laugh that left you sounded quite hysterical in your ears. Which, given your predicament, made sense. Of course, this was your luck this Christmas.
Baekhyun moved into the cabin ahead of you and lowered the bag over his shoulder onto the bed. He had the uncharacteristic sense to not say anything to you as you continued to stare at the room in front of you.
You’d read way too many romances to know exactly what happened with the one bed trope.
You just hadn’t expected that to ever happen to you. And if it had to, well, you wished for it to be with anyone but Byun Baekhyun.
“This is a mistake,” you concluded, taking a step backwards. Baekhyun glanced over his shoulder at you in confusion. “I’ll uh, I’ll go take this up with—”
“Don’t be stupid, Y/N. It’s not a big deal.”
“No, it’s bigger than a big deal. The biggest of big deals. We can’t do this.”
“We did for four years,” he pointed out, and you took another hasty step backwards, feeling your boots slip on a bit of ice. Your processing was detached, however, and you were too late to find your balance, your feet coming up from under you and your butt hit the frozen deck with a thud.
Great. Now the universe had the audacity to add an injury to insult.
“Shit. Are you… well at least it was your butt you landed on. Well-cushioned,” Baekhyun attempted to say, poorly stifling back his laughter.
“I swear, if a snort so much as leaves you, you’re dead meat.”
“I can assure you that I’m much too mature to laugh at your misfortunes,” Baekhyun responded, and you gave him an incredulous glare. He sheepishly shrugged his shoulders, a bemused smile spreading out his lips as he held out a hand. “Want some help?”
“From you? Never again,” you grunted, attempting to get up yourself. A whimper exhaled from you sharply, and you hissed when you tried again. You looked up at Baekhyun’s concerned expression. “Of course, I break my ass when I’m in your company. What else could possibly go wrong?!”
“Now, now, Y/N. Don’t go giving the fates any room to think of something else,” he offered as he easily pulled you to your feet, slipping an arm around you securely, your weight leaning into his.
You tried to think of all the reasons why this shouldn’t feel natural right now.
Assisting you into the room, Baekhyun eased you onto the corner of the bed, another hiss leaving you as your butt connected with the bedding. You glared up at him, and Baekhyun sighed. “Yes, alright. This is all my fault. Blame me.”
“I wasn’t going to blame my clumsiness on you.”
“Being lumped with me is painful enough for you, though,” he pointed out, and you couldn’t quite bring yourself to answer.
The reality was you hadn’t spent time with Baekhyun since you broke up a couple of years ago. You hadn’t wished to ever see him again after what happened. However, his family was your family’s closest friends, and for your mother’s fiftieth birthday, she had requested a Christmas vacation together.
You should have expected your mothers, who both admonished you and Baekhyun whenever you were home for the holidays about breaking up with the other, would be playing matchmaker.
They, too, must be reading an awful lot of romance novels.
“I’ll kill them as soon as I can walk without pain,” you decided, huffing out a low breath.
Baekhyun nodded distractedly. “Yes, kill all you like, but only when you’re better, Y/N.”
“I don’t need your permission.”
He stared at you. “I wasn’t saying that you did.”
“Good, because you don’t control my life anymore,” you reminded, and Baekhyun cursed under his breath.
“I never controlled it before. If I had, this wouldn’t be how we are now,” he admitted darkly before storming to the front door of the cabin. You watched him carefully, and he threw a flippant look over his shoulder. “Not that you care, but I’ll just go and see if I can find some ice or something for your bruised ego – I mean, ass.”
“Look out that door, and you’ll find the ice I slipped on,” you remarked through gritted teeth, a glare back on your face.
“I’m sure you’d love it if I just collected a bunch of ice from the ground for you to sit on,” he spat before grumbling something else under his breath, slamming the door shut once he was out of it.
You slumped, only to let out a small cry with the pain radiating over your backside.
This was already the worst Christmas vacation ever.
Tumblr media
“Lie still.”
You thumped a hand on the bedding next to you as you angled your head over a shoulder. “I am still, Baekhyun!”
“Really? Because every time I apply this ice pack, your butt suddenly moves away.”
“It’s cold.”
“My goodness. Really?! I had no clue,” he replied sardonically, pressing the ice to your injury again. You flinched at the instant chill and sighed slowly.
“Okay, so I moved. I’m sorry.”
“Wow, you really aren’t feeling well if you’re saying I’m sorry with that much ease. Where is the real Y/N, and what have you done with her?”
“How I ever was stupid enough to date you is beyond me. You’re infuriating.”
“The feeling’s mutual, buttercup.”
You blinked at the nickname, your mind flooding with memories where he’d used that before. In all of them, you were smiling instead of scowling.
Baekhyun cleared his throat noisily. “You’ve stopped squirming. Good.”
“Yeah,” you murmured before burying your head into the blankets, trying to bury the happy times you had together along with it. They were stubbornly prevalent all the way to dinner, especially since Baekhyun had assisted you from the cabin to the main lodgings. His grip on you was firm, protective.
You were flailing to remember the time when he hadn’t protected you, and your heart had crumbled.
“Here they are!” your mother cried out, leaping up out of her chair to embrace you both. Baekhyun stopped her approach, holding out an arm in front of you.
“I wouldn’t if I were you. Someone’s butthurt right now,” he announced to the entire gathering, and your eyes snapped to his face.
Well, that sure helped dislodge any remaining confusion. Shooting a baleful look at him, you shifted out of Baekhyun’s grip. “I’m fine. I just slipped on some ice.”
“What?! How?”
“Attempting to escape your son,” you replied to Baekhyun’s mother’s questioning. You tacked on a bright smile that only he would find the layer of sarcasm that was laced within it and hugged her gently before moving along to hug the next family member until you found an empty seat.
Of course, the only other left was across from yours.
You chose to ignore slipping into any conversation with Baekhyun over dinner, and thankfully, he held the same decision. And on your way back to your cabin, you remained silent, accepting his help only when it came to climbing the gentle slope that led to your accommodation. Once inside, you were reminded of your shared quarters and the intimacy that came with that.
The bathroom wasn’t big enough for you both to have ample space as you brushed your teeth and washed your faces. Still, you refused to allow the other to feel satisfied in pushing one out, and you managed to get ready for bed quicker than you needed to be.
It was only eight in the evening, after all.
But you were tired. It had been a long drive up here and an even longer afternoon after your ‘one bed and sharing a small cabin space with your ex’ discovery. Your butt was killing you, and you wanted to fall asleep and forget about everything.
Of course, that wasn’t how your night would fare.
Settling under the blankets at the same time, you turned to look at Baekhyun incredulously. “Are you serious?”
“You expected me to sleep on the floor?!”
You rolled your eyes. “Don’t be stupid. There’s a loveseat over there.”
“Have you forgotten how tall I am?” Baekhyun pointed at the aforementioned piece of furniture. “There’s no chance I’d fit on that. You’d have better luck in doing so.”
“There’s no way I’m sleeping on a couch, Baek. I’m injured, for one.”
“Doesn’t give you the automatic occupancy of the bed, Y/N.”
“Fine. We can share. You stay on your side and don’t touch me.”
Baekhyun smiled dryly. “I hope you’re telling that to yourself. I distinctively remember what it’s like to sleep with you and how little space I end up with when you choose to throw yourself over me.”
“Throw myself?!” you echoed, aghast. “It was your arm that you held out in invitation every night! You encouraged my koala-ness!”
“Well, I won’t be inviting you tonight.”
“Thank the Lord for that,” you replied with a huff of air, both settling down under the blankets quietly for several moments.
The silence was still supercharged, and you were on tenterhooks waiting for what else he’d bring up. This was your first time together since the breakup and you knew there were so many unsaid things between you that needed to come to the surface.
You just didn’t want them to.
Baekhyun eventually sighed. “Why are we like this?”
“You should ask yourself.”
“I have. For two whole years,” he answered, and you turned to look at him, noticing the deflated look within his expression. He wasn’t trying to wind you up anymore.
You weren’t ready to admit defeat either. “After all this time, you’re not sure?”
“You walked out on me, or have you forgotten that?”
You huffed indignantly. “Baekhyun, I saw you!”
“Saw me what?”
“Don’t make me spell it out,” you whispered and felt the man beside you twist onto his side. He was enclosing in on your side of the bed, and you didn’t appreciate how easily the large bed seemed to shrink under his stare.
“What did you see?”
“Really? You’re going with the innocent act? Still? After all this time?!”
“I am innocent. What… what are you claiming I’ve done? I came home to find your stuff gone. I didn’t know where you were for an entire month. Your phone was off. You wouldn’t tell your parents what had supposedly happened, and when I finally found you at your cousin’s house, you refused to see me! I’ve spent the last two years completely baffled about what I supposedly did to your heart for the love of my life to walk out on me.”
Baekhyun’s outburst left him heaving in shaky breaths whilst it had effectively stolen all of yours away. You stared at him, wondering what type of parallel universe you had stepped into where Baekhyun hadn’t cheated on you or was inflicted with some type of amnesia that made him look at you with such desperation. His eyes searched yours, sincerity and hurt laced within them.
“You… I saw you.”
“Saw me doing what?!” he asked exasperatedly, shaking a little with his question.
Your mind slipped back to the office that fateful day, your naïve little bounce in your step leading you to Baekhyun’s floor. You wanted to surprise him with lunch, knowing how hard he had been working lately. Picnic basket in hand, you all but skipped into his department, smiling at the familiar faces.
But just as you were about to enter his office, you saw him and her. Passionately pressed against a wall, the sliver of a window in the door allowing you to see the shadowed embrace, a muffled moan slipping under the door.
You had loved Baekhyun since you were six. You had told him so a year later, and he had promised that when you were adults, you would marry one another. Sure, as adolescence arrived, you both explored other options, along with one another. He was your first in everything.
First kiss.
First lover.
First heartbreak.
Diverting away from his pleading stare, you shook your head.
“You have to tell me. I’ve gone insane not knowing, Y/N. What did I do so wrong to you that you had to leave me without even a single goodbye?”
“I’m sure you had plenty of hellos to give to her,” you mentioned quietly, and the silence that followed your sentence was overbearing. You could feel his stare boring into you, but you didn’t dare look over.
“What… who?”
“Seriously? I saw—”
“For fuck’s sake, if you say that one more time without explaining yourself, so help me God, I might just lose it!” he bellowed, and you flinched at his tone before turning to face the situation you couldn’t ignore any longer.
“Your mouth on hers. Pressed against the wall. Her moans. I saw and heard it all!”
Baekhyun’s forehead creased up with perfectly concealed recognition. He was always a good actor, you thought. If you didn’t know him enough, you’d think he was genuinely clueless right now.
… Was he?
“Y/N,” he growled, shaking his head, and rubbing an agitated hand down his face. “I have no fucking clue what you’re talking about.”
“That day. I came to your office to surprise you with lunch,” you explained, and all the colour drained from his face.
“I wasn’t in the office that day. I was in a conference with Sehun from nine until five. I came home right after, and that’s when my world fell apart.”
“What?” You blinked several times. “But it was your office!”
“It wasn’t me. I can even show you the conference notes if I have to. I’ve got my computer here to do work over the vacation. I keep everything. You know I do.” Baekhyun was up and out of that bed before you could track his movement in the dizziness of the situation.
You couldn’t believe this. You had seen him.
Well, the back of him.
Or a man.
Realisation dawned on you. It could have been Jongdae and his wife at the time instead. They were secretly dating, and you found out through mutual friends they had gotten married, so HR couldn’t stop them from having a workplace romance. Why hadn’t you connected this back then? You were so convinced that it was Baekhyun all this time.
Baekhyun returned with the device, tapping keys and opening files. You reached out for his forearm to stop him, shaking from head to toe. “I… I thought it was you.”
“Well, it wasn’t. See. Here are my notes. Check the date, Y/N. It’s right there in front of you.”
The words blurred after you saw the date, your world falling into despair for the second time over this man. All this time, you had hated Baekhyun for doing the one thing you couldn’t forgive any person doing to another. Except he hadn’t, and you had left before giving the situation any further thought. Your heart completely shattered by a moan coming out of Baekhyun’s office.
You should have opened the door that day. Seen the couple with your own two eyes and not jumped to conclusions.
But you had. And two years of blaming Baekhyun had gone by.
“It might have been Jongdae,” you whispered guiltily, and for a moment, Baekhyun was silent.
And then he let out a strangled laugh. “All this time, you’ve thought I would cheat on you. And all I’ve done is wonder what I did so wrong. When I did nothing. You jumped to conclusions.”
“In all fairness, it was your office.”
“So that must have made it me in there, lusting over someone else when all I’ve ever had is eyes for you,” he answered, running another hand through his hair. “I never once thought you’d think this lowly of me, Y/N.”
That sentence crushed you completely. Because it was true. “I’m… I’m sorry I ruin us.”
Baekhyun closed his eyes and threw his head back onto the pillow. “Yeah. Me too.”
Tumblr media
You couldn’t believe it was the same room. Staring in at the bed that had caused so much despair last year, you eyed it warily.
Baekhyun nudged you inside the cabin. “Oh no, Y/N. It’s still only got one bed in here.”
“I hate that bed,” you admitted, backing away to the exit again. “Maybe we can ask for a room change.”
“On Christmas Eve? I don’t think that’s going to be plausible,” he answered, shaking his head at you.
When you took another step back, Baekhyun dived towards you and laced his fingers with yours, tugging you inside and shutting the door behind you. He grinned. “I’m not having your butt ruin this holiday again.”
“In all fairness, it wasn’t my butt that did that last year,” you grumbled, though a small smile graced your lips.
It had been quite the year leading up to this Christmas. After the confessions last year, Christmas had quite frankly sucked. Somehow, Baekhyun had managed to find another room for the duration of your stay, and you had spent far too much time crying and overanalysing instead of socialising with your family. You’d seen Baekhyun only two more times over the vacation, each time with him looking just as destroyed as you felt.
You had assumed there was no hope for anything to be rekindled.
But by his birthday, you were on speaking terms again. By yours, it wasn’t so difficult to be in his company. And when your parents insisted on returning to the same mountain top lodge to spend Christmas with his family, well, you were quite excited.
Because this year, it didn’t matter if there was only one bed in here. You had no need to find an alternative sleeping arrangement.
Well, if you could have a different room that didn’t have the past lingering from that night, you’d be happier.
Having Baekhyun back in your arms was all you needed this Christmas.
“I have different plans for your mouth this year,” Baekhyun announced, leaning in to kiss you softly. What started as a soft, tender embrace soon grew heated with passion. You didn’t pull away until you were breathless.
“I can tell this year’s going to be different from last,” you agreed, stretching to peck his lips once more.
Baekhyun rested his forehead on yours. “You know, I’m sure our parents expect us to leave our room more than we did last time.”
“They probably have a whole itinerary for us to follow.”
“Mm,” he hummed into your mouth, pushing you blindly back towards the bed. This time when you hissed upon contact with the blanketing, it was from the delicious weight of the man you loved climbing on top with you. “I don’t think they’ll see us much. After all, we have to follow the one-bed trope through accurately, don’t we?”

Tell me what is love (Ch 17)
Chapter 17
What would have been a delightful morning for Hye hee, only brought anxiety as the rays of the sun warmed her skin. Her droopy lids struggled to open, and her head drowned her in flashbacks of last night.
Hye hee sighed in embarrassment. Why would she behave so recklessly in front of him? She shook her head in disappointment.
The house was quiet, and all she could hear was the sound of birds frequently visiting the balcony that held food and water for them. Baekhyun had helped Sarang build birdhouses to help the birdies during the summer heat. Recalling the time he visited her in her little dingy apartment, she had served him poorly whipped salad and pesto.
“I was up all night googling how to build that thing. She wouldn't have it any other way. Her daycare teacher told her that we need to make things ‘earth-friendly’ for animals.”, he explained with gusto.
“Whoa. she’s a bright kid..”
“So, I was collecting twigs, clay, and other things to build a house for them….”
“You do know you can buy them, right?”, hye hee asked, pausing for him to respond mid bites.
“Yes.”, he smiled sadly. A smile that didn't reach his eyes.
“What is it?” hye hee so well knew his look that it didn't take her a second to recognise that look of misery.
“Sarang…. She’s always at home, you know. While her parents rush out at odd hours every day. We both hate her garnering interest from the media, so we take her out to places where she will not be swarmed by the paparazzi. She’s still too young for that. Regardless, she is still a child left home alone most of the time. It hurt me the day she told me about her bird friends who visit her every day because no one ever does.” his voice dropped as he choked on his tears.
Hye hee handed him tissues. Wiping away those tears of helplessness, he continued,” Tae’s family lives far away, and my mum isn't very fond of Tae, though she does try to meet Sarang once a while.” trying to hold his composure, he sighed.
“You do realise you’re doing well, right? It is also your first time being a parent. Cut yourself some slack.”, she tried to console.
A tiny smile flashed on his face, again, not reaching his eyes.
Byun Baekhyun.
The class clown.
Her Baekhyun, who could always make everyone laugh regardless of how their day was going.
Her Baekhyun, who would always hold Hye hee’s hand every time she went up on stage in school.
It hurt to watch him crumble like that. Even though she hated him for destroying them like that. He was still that young boy, and he was breaking. And there was nothing she could do to stop it.
Hye hee held his hand as he sat coping with grief.
“Sometimes, I feel bad for having done this at all. But, on the other hand, I love my little girl. I never knew I would feel this for a child until she came along….”
“Stop it. Sarang would hate it if she ever knew that her father was so broken all the while. She is the light you were so desperately looking for, baekhyun. Embrace it.”
He looked up at her as she walked toward him, hugging him to let him know he was alright.
Embrace it, she said.
And he did.
Baekhyun felt like his old self again. The young boy who would return to his girl every night, beaten from auditions, later beaten from training. He would spend days thinking about her and when he would be allowed to step out so that he could hold her hand again.
Kiss her again.
“Kiss her…” chanted his brain.
And he felt himself reaching out for her again. His lighthouse.
“It's late.” Hye hee said, unravelling herself from his hold. “Your daughter and wife…. Would be waiting.”
Baekhyun left ashamed. He left without another word and didn't contact her for a long time.
So much time had passed since then. The birds only reminded her of every tiny detail between them all these years.
She woke up and showered before walking downstairs to grab an apple. She wasn't starving, so she decided to work a little in the room.
A few hours later, she heard a chuckle in the quiet house. It seemed like they were back.
Hyehee closed her laptop and got under the covers, hoping he would think she was still asleep and leave.
Soon, she heard a knock on her door.
“hyehee?” he knocked. “You up?”
When she didn't answer, he opened the door slightly to peep, she felt a draft of cool air touch her feet as he walked in.
“Are you still asleep? It’s 10 in the morning, though, unlike you to sleep in.”
He sat by her, fingers stroking her head, “hye hee?”
Squirming, she woke, pretending to have just woken up.
“Hey. you alright? You look like you didn't sleep at all. Were you up all night.”, he said, brushing her hair from her face.
Please, Baekhyun. Don't make me hopeful for us.
“Hmm? Is something wrong?” he asked worriedly.
“No. I’m just tired. You guys should go ahead and have breakfast. I don't think I can make it.”
“Let me cook you something, then. How about some porridge if you feel weak….”
“It is alright! I’ll just have some fruit.”
“You already had fruit, though.”
“Huh?”
He pointed at the apple core leftovers on her nightstand.
Fuck. Evidence.
“Why did you go back to sleep? Are you feeling sick?” he moved closer to check her forehead.
She could get used to this. Baekhyun being by her every day, so close.
“That's it. Congee for you today. Not surprising, you always had a weak stomach. And you went through quite some storm yesterday.”
“Thank you.”
He smiled. His palm on her cheek, thumb stroking her face.
“Wake up slowly; I’ll cook.”
------------------------------------------------------------------------------
“Why? Daddy! No. I want to go to auntie Sohee’s place for her stew.”
“Sarang. Hye hee’s unwell. We can't just leave her now, can we?”, Baekhyun tried to soothe his pouty daughter in the kitchen as he looked for congee ingredients.
“Let's go. I can have porridge out too.”, Hye hee suddenly chimed behind them.
“But, hye hee, you were weak this morning.”
“It's alright. You're with me. I’ll be okay.”
Sarang didn't like that one bit. Her face grew graver by the minute. Her father was hers. Who was this woman trying to butt in? It was supposed to be a play day with her father, and now, a woman would be tagging along.
“Umm. okay. Yeah, I will.” he awkwardly smiled, glancing at Sarang.
The drive was quiet. hye hee felt very out of place, especially now with Sarang, who clearly did not seem to enjoy her company at all.
Just breakfast. Eat, leave, tell them you’ve got to work. Excuse yourself and leave. Look for an apartment and move.
It did not last very long. Baekhyun knew the way to his daughter’s heart well, and he had her giggling in no time.
It warmed her heart to see him with her. He was indeed a great father.
By the time they finished, Sarang was in Baekhyun’s arms, fast asleep.
“I can drive if you want.”, Hye hee offered.
“Would you? Thanks.” he carefully handed over the keys to her.
Reaching home, he quickly put her to sleep in his room. Looking around for her, he realised she was in the shower. He was just about to leave when the constant pings on her phone attracted his attention.
Stop. Baekhyun. He told himself. ‘This is not right.’
He peeped in.
Jaebeom ❤️: Hey…
Jaebeom ❤️: I cannot apologize for yesterday enough.
Jaebeom ❤️: If possible, I would like to see you once more. Jane will be…
Jaebeom ❤️: Hye hee. Please talk to me. I’m sorry.
Jaebeom ❤️: forgive me, please.
He couldn't believe his eyes. The audacity to text her again after hurting her like that.
The phone rang as he reread the texts.
The phone flashed Jaebeom ❤️  on the screen. Baekhyun felt rage build inside him.
“Hye hee. Thank you for answering. I am sorry about my behaviour yesterday. I’m mad at myself too. I know these excuses mean nothing.”
“How dare you call her?” Baekhyun growled into the phone.
“Baekhyun? Look, man, I have no reason to speak to you….”
“Well, you have to. Because what concerns Hye hee concerns me right now….”
The phone was snatched from him at this moment. Hye hee, wrapped in her bathing robe, was shocked to find baekhyun snarling into the receiver. She hung up and turned to him.
“What do you think you're doing?” she sighed, annoyed.
“He called you.”
“That does not allow you to answer my calls.”
“Sorry if I am protective of you.”
“Why? What am I in your life?”
“You are not asking me that question….”
“Everyone in your life hates me, baekhyun. Despite trying to avoid that thought, I cannot ignore that everyone we meet is just going to villainise me from now on.”
“Who? I don't care about anyone. I know the truth, and that is what is important.” he raged as he said, “If I start being affected by all the hatred and noise outside, I can never live, Hyehee. Now you have to make your decision here. This noise and despise will be a part of my baggage. I cannot get rid of it. If you think you can love me enough to stay, I will never ever leave your side. This, I promise you.”
She looked at him with disbelief. Wanting to trust him with every cell in her body, she still couldn't. It happened once. What if she is left stranded again?
“.... and about that jerk. Whether you decide to stay or leave, I will not allow anyone to hurt you like that. You are my friend first and always will remain to be.”
He slammed the door again.
The house was quiet. For the most part, she only heard noises from his bedroom, which seemed to be of Sarang playing. He had knocked once in the afternoon, which Hyehee did not answer, only to discover later he had left kimbap in front of her door. She had been starving, and they were delectable.
Sarang left with Taeyeon later that evening. She heard Baekhyun walk past her door and into his bedroom without a pause.
Ugh. What a sulky kid, she thought to herself.
Baekhyun was annoyed.
This is why they said that two headstrong people shouldn't date each other.
None of them would back down easy. Both of them would usually drop hints to resolve any arguments before the smiles seeped through their tough demeanour again.
He was blankly watching tv in his room when he heard someone shuffling outside. Opening the door, he met Hyehee’s startled face.
“What do you want now?” he blankly asked.
Hyehee stood awkwardly as she tried to conjure the answer that did not exist in her brain, “um. Nothing. Just. I…”
“Can you talk in full sentences?”
“Aish. Are you going to be like this all the while? I didn't know what was happening in your life. I get it now, okay? I will keep it in mind.”
“Thanks, pal.”, he uttered sarcastically, walking past her downstairs into the kitchen.
“Yah! I apologized, right! Also, I have another thing to say.” her voice became smaller in the end.
He looked at her suspiciously, “what again? What is it?”
“Jaebeom and Jane want to meet me. So…. so, I told them I’ll come if you come along, and I’d tell them later.”
“Why? Why would I? Wait, weren't you the one you just asked me what significance you had in my life? Um, yes, you were.” he strutted around, making food for the both of them again.
“Don't be mad, Baekhyun. I’ll make you dinner! They’ll meet us in Minseok’s cafe if you like that.”
When he didn't answer, she finally opened up, “Jane and I have been friends for the longest time, Hyun. I’m sure this is very stressful for her too. And I miss my best friend…. If this Jaebeom thing doesn't solve, She and I will have a deranged friendship forever…. Please, Hyun?”
Hyun. She had stopped calling him that. It made his heart beat crazy hearing her say it so casually again.
“Alright.” he sighed.
“Really? Yay!” she yelled and jumped in joy, flashing the biggest smile at him. She was dialling Jane’s number when Baekhyun stopped her.
“Oi. Where do you think you're going? Make dinner. It eas part of the deal.” he grinned, sticking out his tongue at her, taking off his apron and putting it around her neck.
“Get to work, Madame!” he whistled, settling in front of the TV.
She settled on Kimchi stew and quickly made it from scratch. Baekhyun cooked rice, and the two finished the dishes together pretty quickly.
“Why did you feel unimportant? I thought I made it pretty clear from last night that my intentions weren't exactly platonic,” he asked her, sipping his chilled beer up on the rooftop.
“Sarang….”
“Is a child. She is coloured by her parents actions right now. This will not matter in a few more years, Hyehee.”
“But she is important to you. And I don't want to upset a child over my feelings.”
“She is not upset, Hyehee. She just hates the attention you get from me. A young child who craves her father is what she is. Nothing else matters to her. As long as I’m next to her, she would not bother thinking about you or anyone else. She has always been like that. A clingy little one I’ve got.” he chuckled.
“Really?” she wondered.
He nodded in assurance. “Trust me. She has my traits when it comes to jealousy.”
“But you were never the jealous type….”
“Or, I hid that type from you well.”, he cockily added.
The night deepened with the two charted numerous times Baekhyun would magically appear if plans with other boys from the class were involved. They laughed, thinking about their innocent childhood spent with each other.
“I feel him still.” he looked into her eyes, “that young boy madly in love with this fantastic girl. Whom he always thought to be a nerd. The girl who beat him in his video games. The girl who would argue till the end of the night without breaking a sweat…. He exists still. Caged. But, present.”
“Then set him free.”, she whispered, her eyes glistening with longing.
Their lips met under the starry night, a gentle breeze cooling their skin. All the feelings unpacking itself that beautiful night. Nothing else mattered then.
He deepened the kiss, his lips tracing her face, taking in her scent.
How it ignited him. Like old doors reopen to cherish. He picked her up once again. This time, with finesse. Their lips never leave as he walks downstairs with her in his arms.

chapter 20
You nibbled on your straw as you nervously watched him play on the field.
You've just arrived ten minutes ago right after your Wednesday class ended. Since you didn't have a work shift today, which Baekhyun knew as he already memorized your working schedule, you were dragged here to watch him practice. Although you preferred to study at home, you couldn't say no to that guy.
Not after indirectly accepting his confession yesterday.
Your cheeks automatically blushed at the thought of what transpired at the hallway yesterday. You looked down at the lemonade drink he bought for you earlier, a smile getting to your lips as you remembered his words.
"Here, baby. You just sit there prettily, and watch me. I'll get back to you whenever we take a break." Baekhyun grinned as he gently placed the plastic cup of a well-known café in your hand. Before you could even utter a word, he leaned on your face and pecked your forehead. "I'll take you home later, okay?"
And like a weak chick you are, you responded with a nod as if in a trance.
"Hmm, 'kay."
"I was wondering why Byun is in such a good mood and is basically smashing the game big time." You grunted as you saw your best friend walking towards your seat. "And the reason is right over here." She bowed at you as if greeting a higher-up, making you attempt to kick her shin.
"I forgot you're practicing here as well, Jiwon-ah."
"How heartless, Jin-ah. How could you forget?" Jiwon pouted as she sat beside you, slumping on the bench like a lifeless being. "So, I'm guessing you chose the latter."
You stared at her for a while, seeing how her eyes drifted towards the field. Her lips curled up into a smile as she looked back at you. Grabbing your other hand, she squeezed it in assurance. You don't know why, but your heart felt so relieved.
"I might always sound like I don't want you to be with Byun, but I'm your best friend." She mumbled as she looked down at your hand. "I want you to know that I've got your back, always. I just don't want you getting hurt because of love, may it be for friendship or something else. Not again."
Jiwon has always been there. Although we only became friends almost a year after the incident, she didn't get swayed by others' words or the rumors about me. She was the only one who believed me.
With these thoughts occupying your mind, you gave her the widest smile you could ever give to someone. Her eyes slightly widened at your expression, one that she has not witnessed in the past years of being with you.
"I'm happy to have you, Jiwon-ah. I'm very grateful." You said as you squeezed her hand too, cheeks trembling with your smile. You wanted to cry right now. "I'm sorry if I did nothing but to make you worry about me. I-I swear I won't be reckless—"
"Oh shut up, Lee Saejin. It's my duty as your best friend to worry about you, and yours to me as well! S-Stop making that pitiful expression." She tsked as she pinched your cheek, making you groan.
"Jiwon-ah! We'll start in a few!" You recognized one of her friends in the higher year called her from a distance. They were warming up for their practice near the grandstand.
"Oof, that's my cue then." Jiwon huffed as she stood up. "Byun will take you home, right?"
Your cheeks reddened at the mention of his name.
"Y-Yeah. You can come with us—"
"I might as well die trying to get in between your lovey-dovey time. No thanks." She chuckled while patting your head. "I'll get home by dinner, so cook for us, okay? I'll be looking forward to it!"
"Alright."
"Oh! And help me pack my things for the break later, please?"
You smiled as you watched her run back to her group, easily blending in to the outgoing atmosphere. You wondered why she chose to befriend a loner like you. That goes for Baekhyun as well though.
You almost forgot that the winter break is getting nearer, specifically two weeks from now. Right after the last football game of the year, the break will start. You remembered that Jiwon will be going to her boyfriend's hometown since he's finally back from the States after a year.
What should I do for the holidays then? Should I just work at the café for the entire holiday season? That will be tiring, but money is the best.
You chuckled at your thought as you shook your head. It is true, but maybe, you can rest for a week or two without doing anything at home. Just reading, eating, watching, and writing.
"I guess the rumors are true. Baekhyun oppa really brought her here!"
"How'd she manage to seduce him?! This is unacceptable."
"From Lisa to a garbage? I'm sure oppa has been cursed."
"Our poor Baekhyun oppa!"
Your mood got spoiled as your hearing sensed the bees trying to sting you at your back. With how loud their voices were, you knew that they intended to let you hear them just to irritate you. Unfortunately for them, you were immune to such harsh commentaries. No thank you for the past few years of hearing shit, huh?
Just in time as you glanced back at the field, you saw Baekhyun trudging back at you with a frown. Your furrowed your eyebrows in confusion. Did he do bad in practice? He was playing with so much vigor earlier while casually looking back at you. Why is he—
"You're not paying attention to me, Saejin-ah." He spoke as he stood right in front of you. You were actually seated at the front bench, where they left their water jugs and towels, thus, you get all the glares from the audience at the back. Baekhyun said he wants you near his sight, so he placed you at their bench.
This is why I can't seem to look around freely.
"I am! I was just talking to Jiwon for a while." You exclaimed as you looked up at his sweaty figure. You gulped at the sight. "I-Is it your break already?"
Who looks good while they're sweating and... breathless? This guy.
"No." Baekhyun said as he sat closely beside you. His jersey touching your shoulders gave you an unexpected sense of comfort. You moved a bit away from him before turning your head to him because for your heart's sake, you wouldn't be able to breathe being too close to him.
"What? Junmyeon sunbae will surely get mad at me!" You exclaimed, instantly glancing back at the field where the boys were. They are still practicing with the captain shouting as he pointed to their positions. "He's been glaring at me for sometime now."
"Eh, I'll be back after I recharge."
"Recharge?" You mumbled incredulously as he turned to you, leaning his upper body on the bench behind him. Your gaze drifted to his jug that was just beside you, and realized that he must be thirsty from the practice. "Oh."
Taking the towel that has a small BBH initials at the ends from the other side, you faced him again with a determined expression. He tilted his head in wonder as you placed the jug in his slender hand.
"Drink." You said while patting his wet cheeks with the towel in your hand. "You're so sweaty. No wonder why you stink so much." You stifled a laugh as his lips frowned more, giving you enough confidence to help him recharge.
With your serious eyes wandering from his forehead down to his neck, Baekhyun felt too comfortable that he was already feeling hot from your stare. His tongue clicked as you were too busy dabbing his towel on his face, unconscious of how you were affecting him right now. He can't even bring his jug up to his mouth without staring at yours.
"Why aren't you drinking? Do you want the lemonade instead?" You asked with an eyebrow raised. You stopped wiping his sweat off and let the towel rest on his shoulder. "Wait, I'll buy—"
"I don't need a drink."
His voice was deep and hoarse. You would have argued that he sounded like he really needs a drink right now, but his gaze was too... intense. He placed his jug back at his side, sliding a bit closer to you as if noticing the distance you've managed to build between the two of you.
"But you said you wanted to recharge?"
"It's a hassle to take off this jersey, so I can't hug you. It's dirty too, so no." Baekhyun huffed as he patted his chest. His uniform is indeed brownish already since he kept on rolling on the ground and running. "A pat on the head will do."
"Pat on the head?" You incredulously asked, a smile creeping up your face. You suddenly figured out what recharging meant to him. "I-Is that suppose to be your way of recharging?"
Baekhyun just slightly bowed his head near you, shaking it like a dog wanting to be pet. You consciously looked around with trembling lips. You wanted to chuckle so bad, but this guy is seriously asking for a pat on the head.
When you saw that most of the people around you were watching the practice or minding their own businesses, you reached your hand out to Baekhyun's head. He smiled as your palm rubbed his grayish hair gently.
"Is this enough?" You mumbled while combing your fingers through his hair. He hummed, and suddenly leaned his face closer to yours. You cleared your throat as your eyes glanced at the bleachers behind you, where a group of girls were watching. Fortunately, they weren't focused on you despite Baekhyun's presence.
I wonder why they tend to avoid my eyes when he's here.
"Can I ask for more?"
"Hmm?" You looked back at the man in front of you, and widened your eyes at the little distance between the two of you. "B-Baek."
He pouted his lips as if to elaborate his request, his eyes twinkling in anticipation. You could already hear Junmyeon's call from the field, making your heart thump in panic. You tapped Baekhyun's chest as you glanced at the boys he left practicing.
"Captain's calling you—"
"I won't go until you kiss me. Just once!"
"Byun Baekhyun, go. We're in a public place—"
"The hallways are public places too!" He argued with the most childish voice you have ever heard in your life. You stifled a snort as the blush spread across your cheeks, remembering the outrageous act you have done yesterday with him.
W-Well, that's right.
"T-That was—"
"LEE SAEJIN, IF YOU DON'T BRING THAT BASTARD BACK HERE, I'M SUING YOU!" Junmyeon's loud voice rang through the air, making you cringe at the threatening tone. The other boys just laughed loudly as they teased the said boy.
"Come on, Jin-ah. They're waiting." Baekhyun's lips curled into a smirk, eyes now full of mischief and seduction. "Just a peck, please. Pretty pweaseee?"
You sighed in defeat as you playfully slapped both of your hands on his cheeks, earning a grunt from him.
"Okay, just a peck and you run back there, alright?"
"Deal."
After squishing his cheeks for a bit, you leaned towards his face and closed your eyes. The second your lips touched his, Baekhyun moaned in delight as if his thirst was finally quenched. You chuckled as he tried to bite your lower lip in an attempt to deepen the kiss. He was frustrated that he couldn't touch you fully as much as he wanted because he was dirty, and the last thing he desired is getting the dirt to your white shirt.
Before pulling away, you intentionally glided your tongue on his, not knowing it would spark something inside of him. With a triumphant smile, you patted his chest once again to remind him of the deal. His expression cannot be read, but he was totally at the edge of frustration.
"Run, Byun." You pointed at the field as you heard the boys cheered and shouted for Baekhyun. "They're waiting."
Baekhyun incredulously stared back at you, lips plump and parted.
"I don't think I can practice now. I got a hard—"
"Just go! Junmyeon's going to sue me!" You pushed him off of his seat, forcefully making him stand. "If you don't go there now, I'm going to be mad. Big time."
He scratched the back of his head, glancing at his team before gazing back at you longingly. You smiled at his soft gaze. You reached for his hand and squeezed it.
"I'll be right here."
He nodded with a grin, looking at your small hand grasping his longer ones. Baekhyun took your words as his motivation to go. Finally, taking a step forward.
Not before stealing another kiss from your lips though.
"WOOH! BYUN FOR THE WIN!" Kai shouted as he pumped his fist to the air, earning laughs and cheers from the other boys. They were all waiting for his return, probably using the time as their break. Junmyeon was even laughing along with them.
Your whole face was on fire as you watched Baekhyun run back to the field energetically, as if he really recharged while being with you. You didn't even want to look at your best friend's reaction from the corner. Sitting back up straight, you gripped on Baekhyun's towel on your lap.
How will you get used to this, Lee Saejin?
"Where's your boyfriend? I don't see him around." Jisoo asked as she looked around the cafè. You stopped on your tracks, hearing the 'b' word.
"I-I don't have a boyfriend, unnie. He's..." You slowly put down the plates on the tray, waiting for Rocky to serve the order. "...my suitor?"
"You sure about that?" Jisoo chuckled as your eyebrows scrunched in wonder.
"W-Well, we haven't really talked about it. I mean, how do you start a conversation about it?" You bit your lower lip, tapping on the counter impatiently.
You were actually thinking about your official relationship status with Baekhyun these past few days, but you cannot get an answer without an agreement from him, right? He's probably in the suitor stage.
But is he still up for courtship? Will anyone keep a Byun Baekhyun in the waiting area?
"One iced americano, please."
You instinctively bowed at the customer, moving away from the counter to prepare whatever he was about to order. Jisoo hummed in delight as she tugged you towards the cashier area.
"What—"
When you looked up at the customer, you realized why Jisoo placed you here instead. She cleared her throat as she smiled at him. Somi, who was by the coffee machine, formed her lips to an 'o' as if getting what was happening. You inwardly facepalmed at the situation.
"Ehm, one iced americano..." Your fingers tingle as you tapped on the screen in front of you, feeling his gaze piercing through you. "Anything else?"
"Hmm, two slices of strawberry cheesecake and..." He hummed as he looked through the display glass. "... what else do you want, baby?"
You shivered at the endearment as you stopped sliding your finger against the screen. Looking back up, he was alone, and obviously that question was for you. He raised his eyebrows up as you met his eyes, waiting for your answer.
"B-Baekhyun, I'm working." You lowered your voice, hearing Jisoo's laugh nearby. "You'll be eating by yourself—"
"I'll save it for you later then." He jutted his lower lip out as he blinked his eyes rapidly.
Why does he have to be so cute and annoying?
"One iced americano, two slices of strawberry cheesecake..." You looked into his expectant eyes as you spoke. "... and two honey glazed bagels."
That did it. Baekhyun paid the bill with a grin, squeezing your hand in the process. He winked before sitting on the nearest available seat. You're not sure if you can focus on work like this. Him within your sight range? No.
"Jisoo unnie, please take the wheel. I'll just go back in helping Woobin oppa at the kitchen." You quickly went to the back, welcoming Woobin's commands with a smile.
"Oh, Saejin-ah." Mingyu, who finally got back in duty, called out. You waved at him as he was on the other side of the room, getting new paper cups from the boxes. "Hyunjin went to clean the men's bathrooms. Can you help here instead?"
"Okay!"
After two hours of being swept with several customers, your mind drifted to Baekhyun. The last time you got to glance back at him was an hour ago when he was still sipping on his americano while scrolling on his phone.
He wouldn't wait for another three hours, right?
"Saejin!" Hearing the familiar voice of Aunt Jinah, you instantly looked back. She was placing her wet umbrella on the stand beside the entrance. You took that opportunity to glance at the seat where Baekhyun should be in, but he wasn't there. "You're still here? I thought you're leaving by 6?"
"Aunt Jinah, let me get that coat for you." You smiled at her, helping her take off the coat. "Me? Why would I leave by 6? My shift ends at 8:30 though?"
"Y-You must have forgotten you asked me before." She nervously laughed as she patted your hand. "Go pack up. Your boyfriend's waiting outside."
Why do they keep on saying that?
"He's not—"
"Rocky, Somi, and Mingyu are on the clock now anyway. You can go." Aunt Jinah smiled as she pointed at the three employees. She meant that the crew can handle the work efficiently now that they were present. You couldn't deny that the past weeks without all of them were kind of unstable, so having them here was a relief. "Enjoy, alright?"
"You can rest easy, Saejin unnie. There's not many customers by this time anyway." Somi grinned while ringing the bell, placing down the cup of coffee on the tray. Rocky instantly went to get the order and smoothly trudged through the tables.
"You've worked hard."
You weren't certain if you really just forgot about asking for an early leave, or some external force was intentionally dragging you out. You watched as Aunt Jinah greeted the whole crew, casually reminding them their tasks and noticing various things around.
You scratched the back of your head in confusion as everyone was already back to their work. You walked back to the locker room to get your things. It was the first time that you'd be the first one to leave, and you were wondering what can be the occasion today that will make you ask for an early leave.
"I'll be leaving then." You slightly bowed at Aunt Jinah, who just waved at you with an encouraging smile. Jisoo gave you a thumbs up while Somi grinned.
As you left the café, you heard a horn from the side. You instantly recognized the black Mustang on the first row of cars. Seeing Baekhyun waving from the window, you walked towards it instead with your lips tingling.
"Did you get too bored?" You asked him as soon as you got in the passenger's seat. You instantly saw the paper bag with your bagels.
"No, I didn't. I heard from your boss that you have an early leave today, so I was excitedly waiting for you." He answered with a grin as he cooly reversed the vehicle with ease. You watched as he seriously gazed at the side mirror outside while turning the steering wheel. Your gaze dropped at his hands that are gripping the wheel, his veins protruding a bit with the force he is using towards it.
His hands are really pretty, but at the same time, really really seductive.
Bothered with your thoughts, your eyebrows knitted as you observed his hands.
How can his hands be pretty and sexy at the same time? Is that possible? No wonder people compliments not only his piano skills, but his hands too. Mine looks like an old lady's.
"What are you thinking about?" Baekhyun noticed your silence as he drove through the street. Glancing at your side, he saw that you were intensely looking at his hands.
"Your hands."
"Hmm, my hands?" He said with amusement while spreading his hands on the wheel.
"Pretty." You mumbled a compliment as you looked at your own hands. Your left pinky was wrapped with a band-aid as you got a small cut from the kitchen earlier. Your fingers look exhausted and sad.
Baekhyun gazed at your hands and smoothly slipped his right on your left. You were surprised that he was also looking at you, his eyes gentle and attentive.
"Y-You're driving! Eyes on the road!" You mumbled in panic as he intertwined his fingers with yours. You looked away from him, taking the opportunity to hide your reddening cheeks by gazing down your lap. Now you could clearly see how pretty his hand is.
"Yes, ma'am!" Baekhyun said in a firm tone, a smile playing on his lips as he looked back at the front.
"Where are we going anyway?" You suddenly asked.
"Somewhere."
The mall.
You forgot when was the last time you've gone to the mall. You almost gasped at the bright lights when you got inside with Baekhyun. He still has your hand in his, keeping you close while you walk side by side.
The car was actually parked by the valet employee, so you could enter the mall through the front entrance easily. You wondered if this mall was a high-class one.
"What are we doing at the mall?"
"Shopping? Date?" He mumbled his answers as he looked at you, who was curiously looking around with twinkling eyes. "Ah, I actually have an appointment today."
"Hmm? Where?"
Without answering your question, he just led you both to his destination where his appointment was. Baekhyun was being stared at as usual, women of different age were ogling at him without restraint. But fortunately, they weren't bold enough to come up to him.
Why does he have to be so popular? I'm gonna break these women's necks!
"What are we going to do here? It's already quarter to 7 pm."
"We're here."
When you looked at the front, you saw a beautifully decorated salon. The color theme was white and gold, making a surreal aesthetic visual of the place. From the outside, you can see expensive looking velvet couches and high chairs. The lights weren't too blinding, but pleasing enough to see with. The mirrors in front of each revolving salon chair have their own vanity lights—
"Welcome, Mr. Byun! We've been waiting." You didn't even notice the employees lined up at the entrance. Your lips parted in awe and shock. "I'll lead you inside then."
"B-Baek, what's this? Why does it seem like they're welcoming the president or a royalty here?" You whispered at him as he walked with you inside, passing the bowing employees quietly. You were too scared to speak louder because hell, the place was empty except for the presence of the employees and you two. "Did you just rent this whole place out?"
"I don't need to rent it out, baby." Baekhyun chuckled as he watched you look around cautiously. He looked at the employee that greeted you both, who seems like the manager of the salon. His playful eyes turned back to serious. "The usual—ah, not the usual. Give me a cut, and black."
"What—"
"What do you want, hmm? Tell me." Baekhyun's voice was gentle as he spoke to you, in contrast to how he spoke to the personnel. You awkwardly looked around. His fingers twirled around your hair.
I don't think I could have my hair cut here.
"I just want to watch you then." You lifted your eyes to him, watching how he admired your hair.
"Hmm, okay." Baekhyun smiled.
When Baekhyun sat on the black revolving chair, you were led to the nearest couch. You could clearly see and watch him from here. His eyes easily caught yours, turning into crescent moons as soon as they did. You waved a magazine at him to assure him you were comfortable there.
The salon was sensible enough to play some music throughout the place. Most of the employees went back to their respective stations, making you feel at ease because you cannot stay any longer under their curious gazes.
I didn't know Baekhyun was very highly respected, even here. His family is really no joke, huh?
"Would you like some tea, Ms. Lee?" You almost slipped off of your seat when a female employee came up to you. "It wouldn't take more than an hour for Mr. Byun's haircut, but we would like to see you comfortable enough as you wait."
"Uhm, no thanks—"
"We insist." She smiled.
"W-Water then."
"Alright, I'll be back."
After less than an hour, you were in the middle of reading the fifth fashion magazine when you heard Baekhyun's voice. Figuring that he must be done already, you placed back everything to the stack of reading materials on the side.
"Thank you for your patronage, Mr. Byun. It was nice to have you again."
"Saejin-ah, let's go." Baekhyun reached for your hand as soon as he got close enough to you. It was like the most casual thing you've been doing with him these past few weeks.
Were we acting like lovers before without being conscious about it?!
"Sorry, you must be so bored—"
"No, it was fun—"
You forgot to even look at him closely.
His hair is now dyed black, undercut and parted in the middle with his bangs loosely framing his pretty face. Although it still looks fluffy, he looks more intimidating in this hairstyle and haircut. You couldn't help but to reach out and touch it.
"Wow." — the only word you could come up with at the moment.
Baekhyun smiled at you, eyes mesmerized with the way you are looking at him right now. He bowed his head lower to let you touch his hair more, which you gladly welcomed. He can feel your breathing on his neck, making him feel things.
"Handsome." You giggled as you carefully scratched the sides of his head, feeling the roughness of the newly shaved part. "It looks good on you."
"Did you fall for me now?" He mumbled quietly as he held your waist closer. "I told you, you will when I dye my hair black." He chuckled, hands freely caressing you.
Hmm? I think I remember that conversation.
"I wonder if black hair suits you better."
"Any color suits me, love."
"Oh really."
"You'd probably fall for me when I dye my hair black."
You stifled a laugh, patting his cheeks as you remembered. Baekhyun pouted his lips, thinking that you were mocking him instead.
"You're hurting my feelings."
"Pss. You don't even have to dye your hair black."
When he heard your reply, his eyes turned into their usual crescent moon shapes as he happily gazed at you. Your cheeks flamed when you realized what you just said. In front of the many employees waiting around you—
"O-Oh, we should go." You bowed at the employees as you tugged Baekhyun out of the salon.
That was embarrassing! Did we seriously just flirt inside of a salon with several eyes and ears— ah shit.
"I think I'm getting too aggressive and bold like you, Baekhyun-ah." You unconsciously said as you breathed out when you got outside.
"I like it."
"Aish, this guy."
Baekhyun stopped right in front of you with a smile that almost blinded you for the nth time. His black hair can kill, damn it. His hands covered your flushing cheeks, making you feel warm. When he leaned in, you knew what was coming.
*smooch *smooch *smooch
His cute mouth made sounds as he pecked your lips repeatedly without any shame. Your eyes remained open, still not conscious enough to respond. Feeling the one-sided act, Baekhyun bit your lower lip carefully. His perfect teeth dug a small dent on your mouth, letting him earn a moan from you.
When you had the chance to peel him off of your lips, you placed your weak hands on his chest.
"I-I don't think we should be doing this here."
"'Cause it's a public place?" Baekhyun said with a smirk, his arms now dangling around your waist. His lips lingered over your cheek, letting you breathe and speak.
"N-Not just that, because it's inappropriate!"
"Car then?"
"Shut up!" You hit his broad chest as he laughed.
"Baekhyun?"
His laugh subsided and your breathing got stable when you suddenly heard a female voice. It was full, firm, and stern. You pushed Baekhyun away as he hesitantly took a step back to turn to the one who called him. A smile was still on his face until he recognized the woman in front of him.
She is in a wheelchair.
There are two body guards behind her, excluding the woman pushing her wheelchair. Her clothes were classy; her jewelries exude elegance; and her hair pinned in a neat bun. Her presence was intimidating but graceful enough for you to take a second glance.
You didn't know who she was, but you kind of got the hint that she was someone powerful and important as Baekhyun bowed his head in respect. You just slightly bowed your head, following him.
You wouldn't have heard his voice if not for the close distance between the two of you.
"Mom."

𝟐𝟎:𝟏𝟗, 𝐎𝐒𝐇 — “you’re such a brat.” the pout on your face is serious, despite the childish manner. your arms folded across your chest angrily and your eyebrows scrunched into a frown. “i take you out for a nice meal and now you want bubble tea?”
boyfriend!sehun doesn’t respond with words however, mirroring your pout but pairing it with a set of puppy eyes instead. his hands pulling yours away from your chest and into his palms as he shuffles his feet closer towards you. “i thought you were supposed to be the loaded one,” you continue nonetheless. sehun had used those puppy eyes on you so many times that you knew you were eventually going to cave, all you could hope was that you argue the expression of his face before you did. “plus, what happened to the oldest always pays? i thought that was a rule you lived by!”
your boyfriend seems almost offended by your frankly all too valid reasonings, lips parting, mouth hanging agape. the puppy eyes were gone — success!
“hmph,” you pull away, arms folding once again, “what about that, lover boy?” your words are smug, almost proud as you stood up for yourself and your wallet.
it wasn’t that you expected to sehun to always pay — of course not. it’s just that you had already surprised him with a far too overpriced meal and getting a bubble tea from one of the boujee cafes that dotted the clearly rich area of seoul just didn’t seem worth it. “fine.” he huffs out, gripping your hand and continuing down the street. “i can’t believe you used the excuse that i was loaded though.” he mumbles, a small smile spreading across your lips, one that you hide from sehun. “why wouldn’t i? it is why i’m dating you after all.” you hold back the giggle threatening to ruin your serious facade.
sehun pauses in his tracks at your comment, swivelling to look at you with an astonished and almost saddened expression on his face. “really?” he sounds more defeated than you had expected and you can’t help but feel a twinge of guilt tugging at your heart.
“of course not, se!” you break all too quickly, hands cupping his cheeks, lips planting a peck on the tip of nose. “i was joking you dummy” sehun looks almost relieved and it make you smile, “i’m dating you because you’re my best friend, and you make me smile even when i don’t want to, and you’re goofy and kind and laugh at my stupid jokes.” a smile begins to pry the corners of your boyfriend’s lips back up, your hand moving to hold his.
“i think you owe me bubble tea for that.” sehun teases but you know all too well that he secretly means it.

String - Part V
Tumblr media
Prologue | Part I | Part II | Part III | Part IV | Part V | Part VI
Genre: angst, fluff, suggestive themes
Pairing: Baekhyun x Female Reader FT. SEHUN
Word Count: 3.6k
Summary: You find yourself in a friends-with-benefits situation with your best friend. You have no business falling for him, but your heart begs to differ.
If you had to list the emotions you felt after that night, you could fill a notebook with words and phrases and maybe even some sentences. You’d start with words like anger, despair and hopelessness. You could also write words like idiot and stupid and failure. You could fill it with curses in English and in Spanish because Evie taught you how to curse like her uncle in Puerto Rico.  You could write how much you hated Baekhyun and how he was a stupid asshole who pulled you along on a string for weeks and about how selfish he was for not telling you how he felt. You could write about yourself and how everytime something good came into your life it was pulled away from you like candy from a baby. And how unfair life had been to you, that you couldn’t believe that you liked someone for the first time in a while and you seemed so close to having the perfect relationship with Baekhyun.
“Just casual sex between two people when we needed to get off, mutual entertainment!”
“You deserve someone whose heart skips a beat when you smile...like yours used to do to me...”
You’d never felt more defeated or stupid in your life. You weren’t the luckiest person in the world and you’d experienced a few heartbreaks in your life but this had to be the worst. And the worst part of this heartbreak in particular was that you weren’t even together yet this one hurt the most.
You’d poured your heart, with all its energy, into this idea of being with Baekhyun. Even though you got confirmation that Baekhyun had chosen someone else you had questions about who that person was. Who was she and where the fuck did she come from and what did she have over you? Whoever she was didn’t matter. No matter what, you hated her. Even if she was an angel sent down from the heavens above you didn’t care; you still hated her.
* Baekhyun hated himself. He never meant to hurt you or lead you on. It wasn’t an excuse, it just...happened. Things just ended up like that and he knew that everything that had happened up until this point was his own fault. He made this mess. Your feelings spilled all over the floor and he wasn’t sure how to clean it up.
As you walked away, he wanted to stop you. He wanted to apologize, to say something to you. He knew that he hurt you and he knew there were a few things in that confrontation that he could’ve left out… Like the part where he said, “You deserve someone whose heart skips a beat when you smile...like yours used to do to me…” That was stupid. Why did he say that? He was feeling attacked and, honestly he felt hurt even though he had no right to be, he took out his frustrations on you. In the moment, he wanted to hurt you like you were hurting him.
He fucked up and he knew that there was no way you’d ever forgive him. He was drunk and he knew it was no excuse for how he behaved or the things he said that he couldn’t take back but he regretted it all.
He dragged himself back to that bar, mostly just to get his wallet from the table. Part of him wondered if you’d go back to the bar and drink more but he knew that you wouldn’t. When you needed space, you walked around. And he knew that you probably never wanted to see his face again. So he knew that when he got there you wouldn’t be.
As he walked into the bar, you were nowhere in sight. His friends were at the table and looked up as he approached.
“Where’s Y/N?” asked Evie.
“We had a fight and now she hates me,” Baekhyun said, putting his wallet in his pocket.
“Jesus, Baekhyun,” she said, standing up and grabbing her phone. “If you didn’t want to be her boyfriend, fine, but the least you could’ve done was be her fucking friend!”
Evie stormed off, leaving a very angry and uncomfortable aura, Sadie running behind her. Baekhyun sat down next to Daren and Drew quietly. “Well now Evie hates me, too.” Baekhyun picked up the beer that Evie didn’t finish and took a gulp from it. “Cheers.”
Drew watched with confused brows. “What the hell just happened?” * Baekhyun woke up without a hangover thanks to his friends encouraging him to drink water instead of buying another drink to deal with his problems. He told them everything that happened, sometimes giving a little too much information, from when the time Baekhyun first had sex with you up to meeting Kira again to the argument he’d had with you. There was a point where he even cried a little. They didn’t judge him too much but they did tell him that he should’ve told you sooner, when he started having doubts. But he already knew that.
He woke up and reached for his phone. He checked desperately for a message from you but he didn’t find it. His friends tried to stop him from calling and texting you and he supposed it was a good idea. If anything, the conversation might go a little better if you were sober.
He sighed and went into the kitchen for some water. Last night’s events replayed in his head, making him feel even worse than he already did as he poured water into a glass. He took a huge gulp in the hopes that he’d wash those negative feelings away. Unfortunately, it didn’t. He couldn’t take last night back and he was still an asshole.
He retreated back into his room and plopped on the bed, looking up at the ceiling. He had a million things he wanted to say to you but he didn’t know how angry at him you were. His phone vibrated and he picked it up to find a text from Kira but not you.
Kira [11:03AM] : Good morning! Hope you slept okay. How was boys’ night?
[11:03AM] : Morning! No hangover, so that’s good :)
He picked up his phone again, clicking on your contact name to call you. The phone rang and rang. He called two more times but you didn’t answer. The third time, he decided to text you instead. Maybe you’d respond to a text instead of a phone call. He’d rather you at least read what he had to say, if anything, even if you didn’t respond.
[11:11AM] : Y/N, I’m sorry. It was never my intention to hurt you. I know that I can’t take back the things I said last night but some of it, I didn’t mean. I was getting upset and I said all the wrong things. I just want to talk to you when we’re sober. Can we please talk things over? * Even two weeks later, you still found your thoughts being invaded by Baekhyun. You’d ignored his texts, opting to read the previews instead. He left you a voicemail the other day that you hadn’t listened to because you didn’t want anything to do with him. You wanted him to be erased from your life. What was worse is that you still liked him. Your heart still dropped every time you got a notification from him and you couldn’t stand him unknowingly having this much power over you.
You spent the past two weeks avoiding Baekhyun like the plague. Thankfully you didn’t have classes with him this semester so the chances of running into him on campus was low. To further prevent any run-ins with him, you avoided the cafeteria and the library and the campus bookstore. Most importantly, you avoided the pool because you knew that Baekhyun liked to use the pool and you avoided the gym just in case he’d decide to go there.
You even avoided your friends a little, always careful to confirm whether or not Baekhyun would be there. And when you decided to hangout with the girls, you made sure it was away from campus or at your apartment.
The last time you saw them Evie said, “He’s really sorry, Y/N. I’m not saying this because I’m taking sides. I’m just saying that maybe you should at least hear what he has to say…”
And you ignored her because you didn’t want to. Hell, you didn’t need Baekhyun, period. You didn’t care what he had to say. Or maybe that was just what you had decided to convince yourself for the time being.
You didn’t feel like spending another Saturday alone with your thoughts. You didn’t want to hang out with your friends from school so you started thinking about other people you could hang out with. For a second, you thought of Sehun. You shook your head, pushing the thought of him away. It had been a month, if not more, since you met him. Would he even remember you? Would he text you back if you texted him right now? What if he was busy? You picked your phone up, deciding that it was worth a shot.
[4:26PM] : Hey, it’s Y/N. Are you free today?
Upon sending it, you almost wished you hadn’t. There was no way he’d respond. It had been so long since you even saw him last. You put the phone down, deciding to do something else instead of stressing out over a text you probably wouldn’t get. You decided to make a cup of tea to ease your mind. You waited for the water in the kettle to boil, staring at the kitchen counter mindlessly. Your thoughts shifted back to Baekhyun but you decided that you spent enough time thinking about him when he was clearly seeing someone else. You sighed and poured the boiled water into your black tea. Enough was enough, you decided, putting your mug on your nightstand.
You glanced at your phone for a few seconds before you looked away, toward your TV. A moment later, you looked at the phone again. You had a staring contest with your phone until you couldn’t take it anymore and gave into temptation, picking up the phone. What you didn’t expect to see was a text message from Sehun.
Sehun [4:29PM] : Only if you’re kind of single ;)
You chuckled at his reply. He was so petty.
[4:35PM] : Definitely single now lol.
Sehun [4:37PM] : You’re in Brooklyn, right? How quickly can you get ready?
* You found yourself walking down a colorful Williamsburg street to meet Sehun. You felt nervous and excited at the same time. You felt bad for taking this long to contact him and you were honestly surprised that he even wrote you back at all. When you texted him, you didn’t even expect a text back. Sehun must’ve been very interested in you to put up with something like that. Because if it had been you, the feeling wouldn’t have been the same.
You were excited because you had finally stopped moping around about Baekhyun. You’d be lying to yourself if you said that you still weren’t upset. But enough was enough. There was no reason for you to stay in this Saturday being bored and miserable by yourself. Why not spend time with a man who had shown initiative and appreciated your company.
You found Sehun on a bench outside the bar. He wasn’t paying attention when you were crossing the street, so you saw him before he saw you. He was scrolling on his phone, his leg crossed over the other. As you approached him, he looked up. Seeing you, he smiled.
“Hey,” you said.
He stood up. “Hey...I thought we could grab a drink and talk a little before dinner. There’s this place around the corner I heard is really good.”
You smiled. “Lead the way.”
And with that, he opened the door for the bar. For a Saturday, the bar wasn’t as crowded as it could be. Sehun took a seat at the bar and you sat down next to him. Sehun grabbed the drink menu and handed it to you.
He said, “What kind of drinks do you like?”
With a hum, you replied, “Something a little sweet but not too sweet. What about you?”
“Something strong.”
“That sounds about right.”
The bartender came over with two glasses of water. “Right now, we have a special deal going on. It’s buy one, get one free for select drinks on this menu.” He put a small piece of paper between you, listing all the drinks that were eligible for the deal.
“Will we get drunk?” you asked, glancing at the drinks.
The bartender winked. “I make a pretty strong mojito…” * You felt like a bird being freed from its cage, finally able to set your wings to fly toward a more achievable future. The dreams you’d had of Baekhyun seemed more like a far off memory. Was this what you needed all along? To just forget about him and to focus on yourself? You felt better than you had in weeks. And even though you were on your second drink, you didn’t feel like it mattered.
Sehun didn’t ask about why you didn’t call or text him before. He could’ve asked about it but he chose not to. Maybe he didn’t care. Maybe he was happy that you’d even texted him before. If you’d been in his shoes, you would’ve been upset about it. You would’ve wondered what you did wrong and if he was even interested in the first place or worse, you would’ve thought that he was playing with you like a video game hooked up to his TV. But no, Sehun kept it simple and you appreciated it.
The more you talked to Sehun, the more you realized you had in common. It was just like the first time you met him in the bar where you talked about any and everything. You noticed small things about him the more you spoke. He nodded often when you were talking and he folded his hands together on the table in between the sips of his mojito. He was the type of person who got distracted easily, glancing every time someone walked in or out of the bar.
You learned that he graduated from Pratt Institute with a degree in video production. He loved cameras and all the things that they could do. He could see the beauty in a photo, in a video, that others couldn’t. Sehun showed you some of the pictures and videos he’d taken. You thought it was amazing that he was so passionate about it and that he talked with such enthusiasm.
Sehun smiled at you. “You know, I had to force myself to go talk to you that day…” He chuckled. “I felt like I was fighting with myself. I thought to myself ‘You have nothing to lose, go talk to her!’ And eventually I did.”
You returned his smile. “What made you want to talk to me?”
“You just looked like you weren’t having a good time...You know, one of those nights where your friends drag you out with them when, in reality, you’d rather be at home watching Netflix. You looked like that. You were frowning like this.” He imitated you, poking his lips out in a pout.
“I don’t pout like that!” you said nudging him.
He laughed and, a second later, so did you. “I’m actually pretty shy...but I don’t know, I feel like I don’t have to be shy around you.”
You felt your stomach grumble. The two of you had been so caught up in the drinks and conversation that you’d completely forgotten about eating. “Not to cut you off but are you starting to get hungry?”
His eyes widened. “Shit, I’m sorry. Yeah, let’s get food.”
Sehun quickly paid the bill and it wasn’t long before you were leaving the bar. Sehun lead the way. “There’s this pizza place that’s not too far away but it’s much better than those dollar slices, I promise.”
“So basically fancy pizza?”
“Pretty much.” * The pizza was amazing and so was Sehun. You hadn’t felt this connected to someone in a while. Sehun wasn’t as loud or outgoing as Baekhyun but you liked that about him. The two of you seemed to balance each other out. But the best part was that the conversation never got boring and you never felt the need to escape as you had with other guys you’d tried dating before. It was refreshing to go out with him. It felt new and spontaneous.
You’d just gotten off of the train. Sehun insisted that he take you home. He said, “There are a lot of strange people outside. I want to make sure you get home safe.” So, here he was. You were a couple blocks away from your building.
You said, “I had a really good time tonight…”
“Me too,” he said. “I’m glad you texted me. I didn’t think you would.”
“I know. I’m sorry. Things were complicated back then,” you said. Then, you let out a sigh. “You probably think I’m an asshole.”
“I don’t think you’re an asshole. When you gave me your number, I knew things were complicated,” he replied. “Did you figure everything out?”
You nodded. “I think so.”
“That’s good,” he said, looking both ways before crossing the street. There was a moment of silence; the only thing you could hear were your shoes hitting the pavement.
“What’s your intention?” you asked, with your eyebrows raised. Though Sehun was a nice guy you wanted to know what he was trying to do with you. Before you got too invested, it was better to ask now rather than later. It was a valid question, right?
Sehun stopped on the corner. “I’m not trying to go with you up to your apartment if that’s what you’re asking me...I wanna take things slow, get to know you first. If it works out between us, I would want to date. I’m more of a relationship person. I don’t like sleeping around.” You nodded, mulling it over. No one had ever approached you like this. Men either definitely wanted to fuck or definitely wanted to date. And Sehun seemed to be closer to wanting to date. “Besides, I think you deserve way more than just some guy who only wants to fuck you.”
The last thing he said stuck with you. It seemed like that sentence would remain with you, sticking to you like glue. Sehun always seemed to say something that made you question yourself and wonder what the hell you were doing. It almost seemed as if Sehun knew about your situation with Baekhyun, though it was obviously just a coincidence.
You approached your building and came to a stop at the door. “Thank you for taking me home.”
Sehun nodded. “It’s one in the morning. You shouldn’t be alone. This street is too dark.”
You smiled, a nervous feeling bubbling up in your core. “We should hang out again.”
“Are you free this week?”
“Yeah. I don’t have anything planned on Friday.”
The corners of his mouth went up into a grin. “Sounds good.”
“Goodnight, Sehun.”
“Goodnight, Y/N.”
Sehun waved as you walked into your building, disappearing through the front door. He hoped that this worked out because, like you, he hadn’t felt like this about someone in a long time. And he had a good feeling about you.
You took a shower when you got upstairs, washing away the sweat and dirt from a pretty hot day. When you got out, you laid on the bed in your towel. You picked up and found that Baekhyun had replied to your Instagram story photo that you’d taken of the pizza. At the time, you felt like being petty so you made sure you got Sehun’s watch in the shot. You wanted him to know that you were moving on, that you were capable of having a love life. He commented with heart eye emojis and you knew it was his way of making his presence know, of trying to slide back into your life somehow.
You sighed, annoyed that you’d come home from such a good date and then Baekhyun had to ruin it. You hadn’t really thought about him tonight, aside from when you posted on Instagram, and he popped in to remind you that there were still some unresolved issues. You knew that you couldn’t run from him forever. Your friends understood that you were upset but they thought you should hear him out, at least, to get closure and move on.
You decided to listen to the voicemail Baekhyun left you. Maybe it would give you the closure you needed.
“Y/N...I know you’re ignoring me so I figured this is the best way to talk to you. First of all, I wanted to say that I’m sorry...for the things I said to you that night. I was harsh and I was being a coward, waiting until I was drunk to tell you the truth. It was something only an asshole would do so, uh, I guess that makes me an asshole. I’m sorry for leading you on for all this time. I just want you to know—and I don’t know if you’ll believe this or not—that I had every intention of dating you officially when I came back from Korea. It’s just recently I realized that I have feelings for someone else. And I’m sorry that I avoided talking about it and that it hurt you. Most importantly, I’m sorry for hurting you. I consider you a close friend and I ruined things between us. I’m sorry, Y/N. You don’t have to forgive me and we don’t have to talk if you don’t want to. I just hope that one day we can at least be friends. Um, take care, Y/N…”
If anything, this voicemail made your feelings more complicated.

One of a Kind (Baekhyun)
Tumblr media
Genre: Fluff
Note: I wrote this without any thought of who this should be about so I asked @certainhappiness to help me decide and we chose Baekhyun!
. . . . . . .
The plan was to surprise Baekhyun with all his favorite snacks since he invited you over to spend some time together. It was a pretty solid plan, to begin with, so when you strolled into the supermarket, you were feeling pretty good about yourself. Thoughts of how he would react to your little surprise flooded your mind, and it brought a smile to your face. Without thinking, you walked up and down the familiar aisles and put all his preferred foods into your hand-held basket.
Everything was smooth until you turned the corner to head into an aisle. The guy in the aisle caught your gaze but only for a quick second before turning on his heels and dashing the other way. Something was familiar about him. Maybe it was his face shape or the fact that he had the same bed hair as Baekhyun, or perhaps it was the same hoodie you had bought him for his birthday. With a quirked eyebrow, you followed in the same direction.
The drink aisle was pretty packed, and everyone looked in place, but there was a sore thumb in the bunch—the guy wearing the same hoodie as Baekhyun. The strings were pulled tight and tied under his chin to conceal his hair. He was against a shelf with his head down, trying to read the back label of a Kombucha drink.  As you got closer, you examined the contents of his basket and found all of your favorite snacks.
"Baekhyun?" You pulled the hood off his head, accepting the consequences if it wasn't him.
"Hi, Y/n." He said in a small voice with a pout.
You giggled at his expression. "What're you doing here? You said you were cleaning up for me to come over?"
Tilting his head to look at you, he confessed.
"I wanted to surprise you with all your favorite food, but it looks like I've been caught."
Your body lurched forward to bump your head on his bicep as you chuckled. "We've both been caught."
You raised your basket up to show him the content. Baekhyun let out a small gasp and dug his hand in it only to pull out a bag of chips.
"Where did you find these? I've been looking for these EVERYWHERE!" His voice was going up in volume. You were slightly taken back but recovered quickly.
"Over by the flavored milk."
He took your hand and pulled you out of the aisle and in the direction of the milk.
"Of course, they would be by the banana milk; I heard they go well together."
You couldn't help but laugh at his commentary; it was amusing. His hand slipped from yours as the chips were spotted. Baekhyun used his whole arm to swipe the majority of the bags into his basket.
"I have to have all of them!"
"Baekhyun! Leave some for everyone else!" You playfully scolded him, but he shrugged, making his way back over to you.
"You snooze, you lose." He held your hand once again and pulled you close to his side.
"You're something else; you know that?" You side-eyed him with a grin. He matched your gaze and winked.
"That just means I'm one of a kind."

Starry Night
Genre: Angst
Pairing: Byun Baekhyun x Reader
Tumblr media
(Moodboard by @baekbuns)
“Y-you said what?” Baekhyun’s eyebrows raise, a small crinkle forming in his forehead.
You break into a short giggle at his surprise and he looks at you intently, blinking multiple times to clarify his sight. “I said yes.” You say, voice louder than the cars running by under you.
You stare back down at the broken city lights and buffering street lamps. Baekhyun’s blinking slows, as if his mind had finally registered your words and filed them into the correct space. “Baekhyun, I love him.”
There were no slurs this time, instead, your confession breaks his breath. Somehow, with a slowly beating heart, Baekhyun manages to stare into the sky. Specks of stars begin appearing, the moon as full as it could ever be. But even that beautiful sky began to feel empty.
“He means the world to me.” You murmur, a little under your breath, but just loud enough for your soft tone to tighten Baekhyun’s throat. His hair ruffles in the wind, and though every inch of him knew how lovely you looked under the moonlight, he doesn’t look at you, not yet.
He waits for a lonely star to shoot across the sky so he could wish for a change of your heart.
With a small snack and enough soju to drown the entirety of Seoul, you both watched over the city, it’s night life springing to life. And in a place so crowded, sitting up here on the rooftop with the wind in your hair felt safe, only because Baekhyun was next to you.
Soon, it became a habit. When the world around started to fall apart, all you needed was a few moments with your best friend, and time itself would stand still so that even those spare seconds felt like forever.
But for him, forever wasn’t enough.
“What about me?” Baekhyun asks, sight never faltering from the dimly light sky. A gust of wind pushes back your hair, and you watch as moonlight trickles down onto the features of his soft face.
That same face which pulled hilarious faces in the most serious situations. You catch the flutter of his eyelashes, perhaps he was tired.
Your heart warms, being around Baekhyun felt like carrying the sun in your pocket. He brightened your world by always making you crack a smile, even if it cracked his heart.
Yawning, you reach out to poke his face playfully and feel the apple of his cheek plush under your finger. “I love you.” You speak, steadying your voice as the alcohol fiddled with your vision.
Baekhyun began glitching like a hologram. His eyes blurred, and his burnt blonde hair began fading into the depths of the night. The alcohol was definitely too high in your system.
The city lights fade and cars die down. Echoes of sirens and laughter runs in the distance. Seemingly, the wind runs over you like a blanket and your world begins spinning faster on your special axis.
But even in all this chaos, there weren’t any shooting stars, and Baekhyun lets out a wavering sigh. He knew you loved him, he just wished you loved him a little more.
“I love you more.” He murmurs back, finally staring into your glassy eyes.
Maybe it was the alcohol burning your mind, or perhaps the chills of the wind, but for a second you caught the mischief in his eyes disappear and fill with something else that you couldn’t understand.
Baekhyun knew it wasn’t possible, to you, he was only your best friend. But he still watches you with whatever broken faith the alcohol left in him.
You smile, soft lips lifting at their corners, eyes glinting with more stars than the night sky would ever hold.
He watches you stand, placing your bottle of soju on the table. You look down, only to flash him a gentle smile and then turn to walk back inside, all while Baekhyun looks over his shoulder with a clenched heart.
And all he could do is watch because he loves you, more than you’ll ever know.

baekhyun stood there with his mouth immediately closing after what he just said.
you knew that she was just a co-worker but you couldn’t help the little flame of jealousy blossoming inside of you. i mean, why flirt with a man that you know is already taken? and why would baekhyun flirt back like it was nothing?
you have to admit, you didn’t have to be so bitter over it. it wasn’t normal for you to be like this, but something about the smug look on the other girl’s just made you snap.
“fuck, i didn’t mean that.” baekhyun quickly said after he witnessed your hurt expression. he stepped forward to touch you, but you swerved around him, instead reaching for your phone that was on the table. “y/n–”
“i need some air.” you muttered before you walked to the entrance of the apartment and left.
the icy wind nipped at your face as you stepped outside into the winter. you considered coming back up for a jacket, but you didn’t want to face baekhyun again. so, you trekked down the street in your sweater, and into the local park. you liked to spend time there with baekhyun and mongryong, his dog.
you sat down on a bench, despite the feeling the cold through your sweatpants. “i’m so stupid.” you murmured as you rubbed your arms.
you didn’t know how long you sat there until you suddenly felt a vibration in your pocket. you took out your phone to reveal 16 messages and 3 missed calls. pulling up the messages app, you noticed that it was baekhyun who sent them. you scrolled back down to the most recent ones, which were sent five minutes ago.
baekyunnie
i’m so sorry. i shouldn’t have said that to you. you didn’t deserve it.
baekhyunnie
god please answer me. i love you.
baekhyunnie
i need to know if you’re ok.
baekhyunnie
you’re breaking my heart, babe.
you pursed your lips. you were probably taking this too far. you stood up when you felt a tap on your shoulder. you whirled around to see baekhyun in front of you. he draped your long-forgotten coat on your shoulders, giving you no time to react. immediately after, he pulled you in an embrace.
“idiot,” he breathed out. “why didn’t you bring your coat?”
you laughed softly as you nuzzled your face into the crook of his neck. “i’m sorry. i was stupid.”
baekhyun shook his head after he pulled away. “me too. i shouldn’t have done what i did and said that. please forgive me.”
you gave a teasing smile. “i don’t know… that really hurt me.”
baekhyun pouted. “but, i said i love you.”
“i was kidding,” you said as you flicked his head, earning an ‘ow’ from him. “come on, let’s go home. i’m freezing my ass over here.”

EXO REACTION
finding out you have a daddy kink
XIUMIN
When xiumin heard you talking on the phone with your best friend over your huge daddy kink, he'd immediately be turned on and would make you end the call with her so he could try this new kink out with you asap.
Tumblr media
SUHO
The exact moment suho found out, he'd instantly push you up against the nearest wall, teasing you at every single chance he'd get just to get to hear the word daddy escape your lips once again.
Tumblr media
LAY
Whenever lay found out you had a daddy kink, you'd be done for. This man would seriously use this kink to his advantage at every single chance he'd get.
Tumblr media
BAEKHYUN
Tbh baekhyun would've known all along you had this kink, but was simply waiting for you to admit it yourself. The moment you did, he'd stop whatever he was doing and would take you up against the nearest surface with the biggest smirk planted on his face.
Tumblr media
CHEN
“Is that so babygirl? I can't wait to hear the word daddy coming out of those beautiful lips tonight while I fuck you sweetheart. You'll be a good girl for daddy hm?”
Tumblr media
CHANYEOL
Chanyeol had found out about this kink of yours recently. However you weren't supposed to know he knew, so he'd try his hardest at trying to make you call him daddy yourself, and when you did, you can rest assured you weren't going to be able to walk the next day.
Tumblr media
D.O
He'd be mad at you for not telling him sooner as he would've liked you to be straightforward with him on your kinks. Nonetheless he'd make sure that next time you'd tell him what was on your mind, after he was done with you.
Tumblr media
KAI
I think out of all the members kai would be the most turned on by this, the moment he found out about your hidden kink, he'd be sure to explore it and make up for all the times he wasn't able to use it.
Tumblr media
SEHUN
“Did you just say daddy? Listen, I want you on our bed undressed right now baby, I'm going to make you regret not letting me in on this little kink of yours sooner”
