A Barbie Movie Thought:

(Spoilers ahead)

So I just watched Barbie for the third time (girl help I’m obsessed) and I noticed something:

Stereotypical Ken is not friends with the other Kens. Or at least he is not looking in the other Kens for emotional support, not like the Barbies do for each other. His only relationship with another Ken is with Pompadour Ken, but that is a rivalry.

He doesn’t play “guess what bird I’m thinking of” with the other Kens, or talk with the other Barbies when they are not talking to him first. Hell, ALLAN, HIS BEST FRIEND, HIS BUDDY, who spends half of his few moments in the movie worried about Ken and his well being is not even an after thought for Ken.

His only relationship is with Stereotypical Barbie. And when that turns out to not be the kind of emotional fulfillment he wants (he wants romance, she wants friendship) he has no other emotional net to fall back too.

And I don’t know about you guys, but that sounds a hell of a lot like those men that think they found their dream woman and that they connect so well and they are meant to be… when in reality he is just experiencing his very first open emotional connection with another human being, because that kind of emotional vulnerability was not nurtured between him and other men in his life.

And when this “perfect dream girl” reveals that she only sees him as a friend… well it’s easier to turn her house in a Mojo Dojo Casa House™️ then go to therapy

Ken literally needed a whole ass musical number with the other Kens to emotionally connect with them, so by the end they are uplifting each other (just like the Barbies always did for each other with the exception of the Weird Barbies and Kens who they are now learning to accept) instead of beaching each other on broad day light
