LDR & other artist song pairs
Daddy Issues (The Neighbourhood) + Ride
Lana takes on the role of the other woman, the drifter, someone unsettled. She seeks love in the arms of the men she meets and is desperate for solace in her troubled mind. In opposition, Daddy Issues is a comforting, understanding song, seductive and understanding. While Lana isn’t necessarily singing about daddy issues in Ride, she still has a lot going on in her head that can be understood by those who have struggled without a father figure. The songs are about acceptance, understanding and to an extent love (Lana’s love for herself and her lovers, The NBHD’s love for the woman in question and their own self).
Starboy (The Weeknd) + Stargirl Interlude
This is a natural pairing - starboy and stargirl. The Weeknd has said they sing to each other in their songs, and this is the clearest example of that. They both embrace their own (sexual) prowess and exude confidence, though they are yin and yang. Starboy is about self-glory whilst Stargirl brings them together with quiet understanding and love. She breathes for him, much like in Party Monster where she softly comforted him in his paranoia.
Riverside (Barrie-James O’Neill) + Unidentified Flying Bill
They sing together in both songs, and both are quiet and beautiful. Their voices are perfect with one another, and it’s easy to see how they truly inspired each other’s music. Riverside tugs on your heart strings whilst UFB is a warm and cosy song, but both are gentle with clear emotion and make you imagine being in another world entirely
Style (Taylor Swift) + Blue Jeans
There are definitely other songs from these two artists that match well together (and I could search into it), but the mention of James Dean, the pretty lyrical aesthetic and the doomed romance are vague similarities. While Style is a burst of pop and willing to ride out the difficult love story, Blue Jeans is the aftermath of a darker tale and taking the heartbreak much harder. It’s almost as if this James Dean figure could be the same person that connects the two stories (at least in surface level).
Teen Idle (Marina and the Diamonds) + Carmen
There are plenty of similar songs (from Electra Heart, from Born To Die) that could pair together in terms of the young and wild woman with an ego, beauty and desire for everything, but these two worked well the best. Teen Idle is bitter and looks back on regret, whilst Carmen shows that not everything is rosy when being beautiful and famous. They are two sides of the coin, thoughtful and sad, but have an upbeat feel that keeps it from being too melancholic. Carmen is who Marina (as Electra Heart) wished she could be, but Carmen knows that it is anything but desirable.

Elsabela: Perfect Song
CW: Drugs, Ice, Lana Del Rey, Plants
Good morning, afternoon, or evening to anyone reading my post! Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post.
While I was doing my homework, I was listening to Lana Del Rey. I would not consider myself a Lana stan, but I do enjoy quite a few of her songs, especially ones from her Ultraviolence album.
While I was listening to Lana Del Rey's 2014 song "Brooklyn Baby", I thought that it would be the perfect song for an Elsabela fanfiction. For textual evidence, I have quoted some lyrics below:
First, "They think I don't understand The freedom land of the seventies"
Both Elsa and Isabela wear costumes inspired by 1970s fashion movement, specifically punk and boho.
Tumblr media
In addition, both of them crave freedom and self-expression.
Tumblr media
Next, "I think I'm too cool to know ya You say I'm like the ice, I freeze"
Yes, I am stating the obvious.
Tumblr media
Third, "They judge me like a picture book By the colors, like they forgot to read"
As they sing about in "Let it Go", "Show Yourself", and "What Else Can I Do", people have seen them solely as beautiful, perfect "proper ladies", when they are actually more than perfect princesses.
Tumblr media
Fourth, "But I'm free, ooh-ooh I'm free"
Similar to my third point, both ladies crave freedom.
Tumblr media
Fifth, "I'm talking about my generation Talking about that newer nation"
Both of them at least influence major social change in their respective hometowns.
Tumblr media
Sixth, "And if you don't like it, you can beat it Beat it, baby You never liked the way I said it If you don't get it, then forget it 'Cause I don't have to f*ck*n' explain it"
While I don't think either of them would be that rude to someone, they both have dealt with people, especially parents/grandparents not understanding them or allowing them to express their true selves.
Tumblr media
Second to last, "I've got [flowers] in my hair I get h*gh on hydroponic w**d"
After "What Else Can I Do", Isabela realizes that she can make more than decorative flowers, likely including "medicinal herbs". In addition, I am sure she is interested in learning new gardening techniques.
Tumblr media
Last, "Yeah, my [girl]friend's pretty cool But [she]'s not as cool as me"(Lana Del Rey, Barrie-James O'Neill)
They are both cool ladies, especially in the eyes of their younger sisters.
Tumblr media
Ironically, according to Matthew Jacobs for Huffington Post, Lana Del Rey's song "Brooklyn Baby" is a piece of satire about 2010s-era New York City hipsters and hipster culture. (Jacobs). To state the obvious, Isabela and Elsa are not 2010s-era NYC hipsters, at least in canon and the majority of fanfictions, as their stories are set in small towns in the 19th/20th century, and they are not pretentious or elitist about their personal tastes, which people think of hipsters being.
Overall, the song encapsulates their relationship and personal lives well.
Thank you for taking the time out of your day or night to read my post. Have a good day or night!

[TW: depression, drug abuse, mention of suicide]
Tumblr media
Another rambling post. I think Lana's "Terrence Loves You" might be one of her best but probably the most heartbreaking songs as well and I wanted to provide some context 'cause I've seen people online being confused about the title. The song is about her ex, Barrie James O'Neil (they collaborated on many songs and it seems like 1/3 of Lana's discography is about him including songs like Black Beauty, Say Yes To Heaven, Cruel World, Flipside, California, The Next Best American Record etc.). Also, the nickname "Lanita" originates from their relationship and has been like an inside joke in the fandom for a long time now because apparently he has a thing for Spanish/latino women and Lana was sent by her mother to a boarding school in Spain when she was a teenager + the nickname sounds sounds similar to "Lolita" and she referenced both the book and Kubrick's movie adaptation a lot on BTD (in songs like Off to the Races, Carmen, Diet Mountain Dew and ofc the song simply titled Lolita). They allegedly broke up because they were both struggling with depression and drug abuse at the time.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Tumblr media
She's referencing the character "Major Tom" from Bowie's songs who was basically a drug-addicted astronaut. David Bowie's brother was Terrence "Terry" Jones. He was diagnosed with paranoid schizophrenia and died by suicide. Although "Terrence" was Barrie's nickname - don't ask me how I know this (I'm nosy lol) - I personally think that she alludes to her own depression in the title and in this instance "Terrence" is her. I mean, it's pretty apparent when you listen to her demos from the time they were together that she wasn't mentally in a good place either ("I don't really wanna die, I just want the pain to be over" or "she wants to die and she should fucking try"...).

norman fucking rockwell by lana del rey, august 30th, 2019.

Currently reading: I haven't been able to read all that much lately, I've mostly been listening to podcasts. Though I am about to start Tiamat's Wrath by James S.A. Corey as an audiobook (finally)
Last series: Moon Knight, still on it, actually.
Last song: Blue Monday by HEALTH
Last movie: Hmmm, I THINK Choose or Die? It … wasn't great.
Coffee or tea: Coffee. I'm sadly cursed with being able to taste tannins.
Sweet, spicy or savory: Savoury all the way.
Three ships: Leonard Snart/Barry Allen, Tony Stark/Steve Rogers, Logan/Kurt Wagner/Ororo Munroe
Currently working on: A digital ink piece of Moon Knight, a prelim sketch for the absolutely AMAZING @zemkzone (go read her ColdFlash fic When Lightning Hits Ice, I PROMISE you won't be disappointed) and some character sketches.
First ever ship: Oh man, I … actually don't remember. I wanna say Jadzia Dax and Worf from DS9 or Jack O'Neill and Daniel Jackson from Stargate.
Favorite piece of clothing: Hands down my STAR Labs sweater.
Comfort food: Crisps, definitely.
Favorite time of the year: Spring or autumn, anything where it isn't too hot or too cold (only because cold ain't your friend when you've got arthritis).
Anyone who sees this and wants to share!
