In September I posted about it being Stanley Kubrick Filmography Marathon time again, whenever I got around to them...well, I eventually got around to them all & my order of least to most favorite of his 13 films has changed some again: 13) Fear and Desire [first film, hadn't hit his stride yet, but still had recognizable qualities] 12)Lolita [still a weird & uncomfortable film, well made & all, but not particularly enjoyable for me] 11) Eyes Wide Shut [his last film was again, well made & certainly visually impressive, but also not particularly enjoyable for me to watch] 10) Killer's Kiss [his 2nd film, still a bit rough, but definitely establishing visual style & other signs of genius to come] 9) Spartacus [it's well made, but probably the film with the most outside interference] 8) Barry Lyndon [a visual masterpiece, crafted with a masterful hand, possible drawback being, it's a bit of a miserable story] 7) A Clockwork Orange [a very unique, shocking, well crafted, futuristic for-its-time, film on violence, among other things] 6) Full Metal Jacket [one of multiple anti-war war films, & like A Clockwork Orange, one of his more visceral films] 5) Paths of Glory [his best anti-war war film, depending how one classifies, and the better of the two films with Kirk Douglas, and a masterpiece of its genre] 4) The Killing [only his 3rd film, already a masterpiece of the noir genre, it's continued to grow on me] 3) 2001: A Space Odyssey [yeah, that's right it's not my favorite or even 2nd, so what, it's still an undeniable masterpiece] 2) Dr. Strangelove [another masterpiece, the black comedy of black comedies, I love this film] & number 1) The Shining [this is still my favorite. Natural perfumery that’s not boring. I’ve been wearing these two by @mariacandidagentile for the past couple of weeks. I have Cinabre and Barry Lyndon. Barry Lyndon is an aromatic scent that feature artemisia, the same herb that gives absinthe its distinctive flavor. Cinabre is more me, it’s all zingy spiciness and resins coating an ancient rose. I can’t get enough of it. Maria Candida is also known for her use of incense. I didn’t get any of the perfumes that had incense since I only wanted these little travel sizes and these are the ones that @shopindiescents had in stock at the time, but I’ll be looking for those the next time. This is a brand out of Italy, so the perfumes might be easier to sample and smell if you’re outside Canada. Ryan O'Neal was a captivating actor and absurdly handsome movie star who became an instant star in the hit film "Love Story," the highest-grossing film 🎬 of 1970 died on Friday. He was 82. 💔

Ryan O’Neal had made the entirety of American womanhood fall devastatingly in love with him with his breakthrough performance in Arthur Hiller’s Love Story in 1970, the heart-wrenching date-movie weepie, in which he was the entitled Harvard rich kid falling for the smart, tough girl from the wrong side of the tracks: played by the formidable Ali MacGraw, who is to become terminally ill.

Their romantic dynamic had something to do with her being stronger and more assertive than O’Neal’s character, who had been so browbeaten by his wealthy father – but he achieves a kind of nobility and hard-won maturity through her sacrifice for him.

"Love means never having to say you're sorry" is a catchphrase based on a line from the Erich Segal novel Love Story and was popularised by its 1970 film adaptation starring Ali MacGraw and Ryan O'Neal.

Love Story was nominated for seven Academy Awards, including Best Picture; Directing (Arthur Hiller); Actor (Ryan O'Neal); Actress (Ali MacGraw); Actor in a Supporting Role (John Marley); and Writing (Story and Screenplay—based on factual material or material not previously published or produced) (Erich Segal), and Best Original Music Score.

But he was later known as much for his personal life, and health problems as for his acting. Ryan was also known for his high-profile relationship with Charlie's Angels actress Farrah Fawcett which lasted decades; The couple never married.

O'Neal was a familiar face on both big and small screens for a half-century. But he was never as famous as he was in the immediate aftermath of "Love Story."

He also starred in comedies, including "Paper Moon" with his daughter, Tatum O'Neal. Ryan worked with some of the top female stars of his day such as Barbra Streisand on What's Up, Doc, and The Main Event, and Marisa Berenson on Barry Lyndon.

He maintained a high profile throughout the 1970s, appearing in films like "Barry Lyndon” a 1975 historical drama film written, directed, and produced by Stanley Kubrick, based on the 1844 novel The Luck of Barry Lyndon a picaresque novel by English author William Makepeace Thackeray.

Barry Lyndon received seven nominations at the 48th Academy Awards, including Best Picture, winning four for Best Scoring: Original Song Score and Adaptation or Scoring: Adaptation, Best Cinematography, Best Art Direction, and Best Costume Design.

His son Patrick O'Neal confirmed the death in a post on Instagram. It did not give the cause or say where he died.

He will be remembered. 1941-2023 💔
