Alex was born in San Diego, California, the second son and third child of immigrant parents. While his mom worked tirelessly in whatever jobs she could get, barely able to get by in a place dominated by a language she barely spoke, his dad tried less conventional methods of supporting a family, winding up in jail for a long time as the fall guy in a burglary that went bad. Thankfully, no one was killed. But it sowed a seed of discontent in young Alex that would never be entirely plucked away.

His older brother took up the charge, following in dad's footsteps to some extent. But with related drug charges and different circumstances, his brother floated in and out of jail well into adulthood. He could be out now, but Alex wouldn't know.

Escapism came in the form of a neighbor who let Alex do chores for pocket money (that he would hide from his brother because he wasn't an idiot). To this day, his 'Aunt Nan' is one of his favorite people. She encouraged him to just keep his head down and work hard, to refuse becoming like his brother or his father.

Another form of refuge for him was the gym around the corner from his family's small apartment. He was there enough that, by the time he was in high school, they gave him a job. He quickly learned he would need a college degree to advance very far, much to his disappointment. Though he'd done fine in high school, graduating with no one present in spite of all the obvious roadblocks. he hadn't ever had the bandwidth to consider college.

Witnessing the struggle of Nan's son to gain US citizenship influenced him to consider more schooling in order to become an immigration attorney, though saving for it proved a little daunting. He eventually worked his way up to being a personal trainer, no degree required, which made a little more money to help him toward his goal.

His mom died shortly before he finished high school, a combination of way too young and, to him, too old considering her struggles and heartbreak. Though Nan had been his support system, by virtue of being around, he loved his mom. She was the only other constant in his life and the loss absolutely floored him.

While he did qualify for some assistance during his undergraduate education, he continued to work in a gym near his college in order to pay his way without student loans as much as he could. It was a stalling effort, because there were a few times living expenses got the better of him and he had to sit out a semester, but eventually he made it to law school under his own steam.

While in law school, he met Andi Ramsay and she basically made his blood boil with a competitive fire he hadn't entirely realized he had, pushing him to work harder than ever before (which, he felt, was saying something.)

Eventually, they would marry and begin planning a family together, something he hadn't known he'd wanted at all until he and Andi really began negotiating in earnest.

Andi's brother, and moreso Andi's drive to help her brother out of sticky situations, drove a wedge between them and led directly to first, their plans being put on hold indefinitely and eventually to their divorce. It wasn't the kind of failure Alex really knew how to cope with. Rather than face it head-on, he's been wallowing and never filed their final paperwork. They have a total of five years until their petition expires so he could file it, but something is still holding him back.

Between the time Andi left to really focus on her brother and now, Alex's Aunt Nan passed away after a brief illness. It's possible this has led to his reluctance to finalize their divorce because Nan adored the girl and encouraged him to do everything for the person who really woke him up and helped him learn so much about himself.

Bastien paused, sighing as he pulled his phone from his pocket. He needed to speak to Everly, let her know what Liam had said, the fact that he knew everything, but he couldn’t face her, not now, not when he was barely calm himself. He needed to pull himself together first or it would only make things worse when he told her.

Bastien- There’s something I have to do. Just stay in my room, I’ll be back soon.

His heart clenched at the lie, he couldn’t tell her the truth, not yet, she deserved a few more minutes thinking that Liam was still in the dark. He knew he should probably go to her now, explain to her, he knew telling her to stay in his room was risky, but he couldn’t speak to her when he was barely containing his own rage.

Everly- I wasn’t planning on going back to the apartment.

He sighed in relief at her words. He knew it would only complicate things more, but he worried about how far Liam would go to ensure she didn’t have his child. He typed out, then deleted his response. Fuck it.

Bastien- I love you.

Liam already knew about their relationship, knew that she was carrying his child, so why stop himself from sharing his feelings now? He was done being careful, he needed to get her free, and that couldn’t be done if he wasn’t willing to take risks.

Everly- I love you too.

The corners of his mouth twitched upward in an almost smile at her reply. He could never get tired of telling her, or having her say it back to him. Soon, we’ll be free soon. He would get her out, they would be able to stop hiding. He shoved his phone back into his pocket, his feet blindly leading him out of the palace and to the gardens. As he walked the familiar path through the hedge maze his mind replayed all the memories of their time spent there over the social season. He knew there was only one way he would be able to get her out now, he had realized it a few days prior, but he had trouble coming to terms what it would mean. He saw now that Liam would do whatever necessary to keep her tied to this life, he needed to be ready to do the same to free her.

The world had gone black, the only relief from darkness the moon shining bright and the many stars littering the night sky by the time Bastien returned to his room. He finally felt more at peace with what had to be done to guarantee her freedom. As he entered the mostly dark room he steeled himself for breaking her bubble of happiness. Learning what Liam wanted to do to ensure the stability of a country she never wanted to lead would surely break her, send her spiraling into a panic and tears once more. He hated the idea of telling her nearly as much as he hated the thought of keeping the truth from her any longer. A small smile crept on his lips at the sight of her small frame curled up on his bed, clad in one of his t-shirts, her body bathed in the glow of the moon. He watched the gentle rise and fall of her chest as she slept, her body and mind at peace.

Bastien stripped down to his boxer briefs, not bothering with throwing on pajama bottoms. He slid into bed behind her, pulling her close to him, his large hand resting on her bump. I’ve got you little bird. We will all be free soon.

Everly woke at the subtle shift in the bed, she smiled softly as he enveloped her in his arms. “You’re back.” She said rolling to face him. “I missed you.”

“I missed you too.” His lips met hers in a gentle caress. “Go back to sleep, we’ll talk in the morning.”

She pulled back, her eyes tracing the contours of his face, taking in his tired expression. “He knows doesn’t he?”

Bastien sighed, she deserved a few more hours of peace, he wasn’t looking forward to telling her, but he really didn’t want to tell her now. “Evie, we’ll talk in the morning.”

“What did he say?” Her voice broke as tears pricked at her eyes. She could read him as well as he could read her, and his unwillingness to tell her now told her she was right, Liam knew exactly who fathered her little bird.

“Evie…” he brushed a strand of hair back, tucking it behind her ear.

“Bas, please, just tell me.” Her grass green eyes pleading. She could tell it was bad, but she knew she needed to hear it. “Did he fire you?” Is that why he was stalling?

“No.”

“Then what’s wrong? Please talk to me Bas.”

Bastien sighed rolling to his back. He stared up at the plain white ceiling, steeling himself to shatter her completely. He turned his head, locking eyes with hers. “He told me we needed to end things for good.”

“I don’t understand.” Everly stared at him stunned. “You told me to stay put.”

“Liam said that our relationship had to end to maintain your relationship with him.” He paused, how did he tell her Liam wanted to kill their child without completely destroying her? “He plans to spin that you had the baby too early.”

“What?! No!” She jolted upright shaking her head in disbelief, her hand protectively covering her bump.

Bastien sat up, his hand gently cupping her cheek, thumb wiping away the freshly fallen tears. “Evie, I told him we would never let him. I told you to stay put because he’s a determined man, but so am I.”

“We have to leave.” She moved to get up, stopped by Bastien’s arms wrapping around her waist.

“Evie, we can’t leave, not yet. If we leave now he will send someone after us and he will charge me with your kidnapping to keep us apart.”

Everly sadly nodded in agreement. She knew he was right, they couldn’t leave, not when she was still legally married to Liam. “How do we get me out then?”

Bastien looked down at her, he’d known the truth of what it would take, but the thought of saying it out loud, of telling her the truth made his heart break in two. “We have to make him let you go.”

Everly looked at him, confusion etched upon her features, her eyes going wide as understanding set it, her heart sinking. He was thinking Liam had been cheating on her. “You think he was with someone else when he was away don’t you?” The more she found out about the lie that was her marriage the more it hurt, like a million needles jabbing into her heart at once.

Bastien sighed looking down, unable to look her in the eye as he broke her further. “Evie—”

“That’s it, isn’t it? You think he’s been cheating and that’s my way out. Bas—”

“Evie.” He sighed shaking his head. “You don’t know how much I struggled with this myself, I need you to trust me, please.”

She gently cupped his cheek, the soft hair tickling her palm. “I do trust you Bas, I just don’t want you to do anything you’ll regret for me.”

“Evie, I made you a promise, and I’ve made peace with what I have to do. Just trust me.”

“Bas, I do trust you, you’re my knight.” She shook her head. “But how does thinking he cheated help me get obtain my freedom?”

“I thought it was odd how little he kept in touch, particularly when you were in the hospital. I know I shouldn’t have but I had an old friend follow him.” He took a deep breath, could she handle hearing the truth? “I have what we need. I just needed to come to terms with using it. I struggled with the thought of blackmailing him, but I meant what I said, I will get you out no matter what it takes.” He shook his head, still hardly able to wrap his brain around how far he was willing to go for her, for them. “What he expects you to do makes this a lot easier for me.”

“Tomorrow.” She couldn’t wait any longer, not if Liam knew, not if he was determined to do whatever necessary to keep her chained to this life.

“My Queen, there you are. With your absence in our home last night I half expected that you ran.” Liam greeted, his warm chestnut eyes cold and hard, his mellow voice harsh and unteasing. He looked to Bastien, his hand protectively resting at the small of Everly’s back, Liam’s mouth curved into a disapproving frown. “I thought I was clear, this relationship is over.”

Bastien’s jaw clenched, the urge to lash out overwhelming. “I believe I was adamant that we would be unwilling to sacrifice our child.” Crown or no crown, duty or no duty, what Liam was demanding was cruel and unacceptable, all because he was trying to save his own image with the people.

“As I told you last night, you don’t have a say and my wife will do whatever it takes to ensure the stability of our country.” Liam growled through gritted teeth.

Everly tensed at the way Liam was speaking as if she wasn’t present, making decisions for her, her hand moved to protectively rest on her bump. “No!” Liam’s eyes narrowed at her exclamation, his frown deepening. “You’ve taken enough from me, I never asked for any of this and if you had listened to me you would have known that. I will not be giving up my child!” Her voice wavered slightly, tinged with anger, sadness and fear. “I love Bastien and you will not take him from me again.”

Liam scoffed. “I’m afraid you have no choice in the matter my dear.”

A small smile crept on her lips. “I have every choice here. You want me to give up my child to keep your image intact, what if I went forward to the press?” Bastien’s hand brushed her back giving her the courage she needed to continue. “If the press, the people were to find out that this child is not your heir as you claim, you would have no say.”

“You wouldn’t.”

“I will do whatever it takes to protect my child!” She took a step forward, her thumb rubbing over the top of her bump. This is for you little bird. “Even if it meant I had to reveal what you were really up to when you were away working, how although you were under the impression that little bird was yours you ignored your queen when she was hospitalized while you cavorted in another country.”

“They would never believe such lies.”

“Maybe if it was in fact a lie they wouldn’t believe me, you could spin me as an hysterical pregnant woman who wanted to play victim after she cheated and lied, however you seem to be forgetting that you had zero contact with me and very little contact with your head guard who was caring for your pregnant queen. There are records that will back me up, no calls, no texts to your queen and precious few to the man you entrusted her safety to. What would your people think of you then?”

Liam’s hands curled into fists, anger coursing through his veins. “You obviously haven’t thought this through.”

“Oh but I have.” Lies. This is not how this was supposed to go! “What is it you think I’ve forgotten?” Make him show his hand first, then demand the divorce.

“You’ve clearly forgotten that I wouldn’t be the only one with a tarnished image.”

“You seem to be forgetting that I don’t care about my image.”

“Is that so?”

“Yes.” Her heart clenched with fear, would this work? Should she have allowed her anger to take over? Should she have allowed Bastien to handle this?

“Very well then, what is it that you do care about? What is it that you want?”

There it was, her chance, her one chance at freedom. She raised her head, she was so close and she would not leave here without her freedom, she’d do whatever it took. Bastien gently caressed her back, her eyes flicked down to her stomach, this was for them, they could finally be the family they’d dreamed, she just needed to say it. “I want a divorce.”

“No.”

“What?” Her voice cracked, she was so close, she couldn’t fail now.

“You’re pregnant, you can’t just leave. How would it look if I allowed the pregnant queen to leave with the heir.”

But she isn’t yours. She felt all hope and possibility slip from her fingers. She couldn’t allow it to end, not like this. She couldn’t lose him, couldn’t lose their child. “Tell them she’s not yours.”

“Evie…” Bastien whispered at her side, she felt his body tense, this was so far from what they’d discussed. He was supposed to hold the cards, they were trying to save her name, but none of that mattered if she had to stay chained to her gilded cage.

“You don’t mean that.” Liam challenged.

Everly swallowed thickly, it was too late to back down now. “Say whatever you have to about me, drag my name through the mud, I don’t care, but Bastien stays out of it. You let him retire, you let us both leave. Give me a divorce and you can say whatever you want about me, as long as you don’t mention him.” Please. She fought the urge to squeeze her eyes shut at the familiar sting of oncoming tears. This had to work, if it didn’t she had no other way to regain her freedom.

Liam clenched his jaw, he clearly hadn’t expected her to fight back. Her heart raced as she watched him, waiting for his answer. “Fine, if that’s what you truly want.”

“It is.” She couldn’t believe she did it, she was free. “But Liam, if you ever mention him in relation to me I will tell the press what you were doing when I was hospitalized.” She turned, rushing from the study, not waiting for his reply. Her hands clutched at her stomach as she doubled over, she felt like she could finally breathe once more. She stood, genuine smile adorning her lips, she was free. Her eyes locked on Bastien, his face etched with concern, eyes filled with shock. “I’m fine Bas, I just can’t believe it I’m free, we’re free.” She shook her head in disbelief. “I know it’s not what we discussed, but I couldn’t listen to him speak about me, about her like that.”

“I understand Evie, I just hate that you’re going to be drug through the mud.”

She gently cupped his bearded cheek. “Bas, I meant it, I don’t care what he says about me, I did it for us, for our little bird.” She was free, and Bastien didn’t have to cross a line he may live to regret, they would finally be together, they didn’t have to reveal all they knew, Liam thought they were still in the dark, if only he knew. Her only worry now was years down the line, some day she’d have to explain to her child that everything she did, she did for her.

Jay x Evie moments in Escape from the Isle

Here is the final installment of my book analysis on the Isle of the Lost franchise. As usual, this is just a post for fun because we, Jayvie shippers, are most of the time starving for content so it’s always good to know that there is some, if you dig deep enough. Now this one is a bit shorter than the last because as time went by and the author paired both our characters with others (I won’t comment on this in this post), the moments between Jay and Evie are rarer. However, you can always count on me and my team of faithful shippers to find them ;) Read if you want, like, reblog and share if you enjoy it, because there is never too many of us!

Let’s do this one last time!

At the beginning of the book, the VK go back to the Isle and do a presentation at Dragon’s Hall to promote the Auradon program for the VK. Unfortunately, only a few students show up and during Evie’s presentation, they all fall asleep, which is a bummer to our blue princess. But Jay is always there to try and cheer her up and in this instance we also have a precious physical touch.

Then comes our customary “I stand by you” moment between these two, always so supportive of the other, we love our best team. Friendly reminder that the extension of the VK integration program comes from Evie, who asked at the end of D2 if they could bring some more VK to the kingdom. Another reason why Jay wants this to work (plus, he’s aware of the luck they had and want the other VK to have the same chance too, just like his best friend).

In this moments, it’s the other way around, Evie comforting Jay after Mal somehow left without them noticing. You can tell in this one how much Jay sees himself as the father figure of the group, the protector and how guilty he feels about it. But Evie, as the good mother hen, immediately reassures and calms him down. It is probably the strongest moment referring to Jay and Evie as the parents of their little group and how only the one of them can comprehend how responsible the other probably feels at the moment. They’d do anything for their little family and take responsibility right away when something affects any of them.

The Ultimate Protector Jay™ can be seen in this moment. Evie took the lead to go and get Mal and instead of preventing her to get into any danger, he supports her. That’s another thing that I love about this pairing: how respectful they are of the other. Jay’s first instinct would probably have been to go and get Mal himself but he knows better and Evie was actually the best person to get their friend back in this situation. So instead of getting in the way, he lets her know he’s there if she needs him.

Now these are the only worthy interactions from this book. Once again I apologise for the shortness and I really hope we can get some more moments with them in other books, may it be the manga version that @brokengem often gifts us glimpses of, or other publications from this universe.

If you asked him, Fred would say his happiest day was the day he married you. Watching you walk up the aisle in your white dress, pretty smile on your face, was a sight engrained into Fred’s memory forever.

He was irrevocably in love with you, this he knew, and that day just made him fall for you even more - his heart had beat so fast when he saw you walking towards him, looking like an angel.

He didn’t think his life could get any better.

That was until the day he held his little baby girl in his arms for the first time. He felt an overwhelming feeling of adoration for the tiny infant whose whole hand could only just clasp around his finger. This little baby who depended on him so fully, his little bundle of joy wrapped in a pastel purple blanket, knitted by Molly.

He was wrapped around her finger from day one. She was a complete daddy’s girl, only settling to sleep when in her father’s arms, immediately stopping crying when being held by him. Often, he’d fall asleep with his baby girl laying on his chest, his hand holding her in place as she snuggled into his sweater.

He’d take her to his shop, holding her as he spoke to customers, whilst he served them at the tills, enjoying when they asked him questions about her - about his beautiful little baby who could barely open her eyes yet, but who owned his heart completely.

By the time she was a few months old, Fred insisted they were best friends, spending as much time as he could with her, looking after her whilst you went back to work. He was almost besotted - she was his soft spot, possibly the only person besides you who could get him to do whatever they wanted.

“Say dada! Come on, Evie! Say dada! Dada!” Fred stood in front of his little girl, who was sat in her high chair, giggling at the funny faces he was pulling at her.

She’d been making sounds for the last couple of weeks and you were both sure she was going to start speaking soon - something you were both excited about. Fred was determined that her first word would be dada, her being so fond of him and all, and couldn’t wait until she finally said it.

“Ba!” The baby announced excitedly, kicking her little legs in the chair. Fred grinned at her, “Yes darling, ba! But please say dada! Dada!”

At the silence, he sighed, “Fine, what about mama? Can you say mama?”

“Mmm?” The baby pursed her lips and blew a spit bubble at him.

“Are you trying to get her to speak again?”

Fred looked up at George, who entered the kitchen, and sighed again, “She’s gonna do it! I swear! She’ll say dada!”

George stepped into the baby’s eyeline and she began squirming in her seat, letting out a loud, happy squeal and banging on the tray in front of her.

She tried to point at the younger twin, who grinned at his niece and poked her cheek, making her giggle, “Hello darling! Someone’s happy to see me, aren’t they?”

She opened her mouth and Fred held his breath, hoping she would speak, before shaking his head fondly as she simply hiccuped, uninterested in saying anything at all.

“These things take time, she’ll say it eventually, you can’t rush it,” George reminded his twin, who leant against the fridge, not taking his eyes off the baby.

“I know,” he glanced up at George, “I just... I can’t for her to say-“

“Dada!”

Fred’s eyes widened, George nearly dropping the glass he’d gotten down from the cupboard.

“Did she just-“

“She did! My baby girl said- Oh Evie, my amazing, beautiful, smart little girl!” Fred lifted her from the chair and cradled her into his arms, “Did you say ‘Dada’?”

“Dada!” She cheered again.

“Y/n is gonna kill you for getting her to speak whilst she’s not here,” George said, amused.

But the words didn’t register to Fred, who was too busy lifting the baby up into the air and back down again as she squealed.

As she started getting closer to being able to walk, Fred made it his mission to baby-proof your home, ensuring she couldn’t hurt herself on anything. She was currently shuffling everywhere on her bottom, with the occasional attempt at holding the couch to help her stand up.

Every time she did this, you both encouraged her to try and move towards you, most of the time receiving blank stares or the occasional laugh.

This time, however, your little girl seemed more determined to move around by herself.

“Come on, come to dada!” Fred called to her with a reassuring smile. He glanced over at you, winking before his attention settled back on his daughter.

“Dada!” The infant babbled, grinning at Fred, who was crouching with his arms out around a metre distance away. Her wide eyes beamed at him as she let go of the couch and made a couple of wobbly steps towards Fred, her own little arms reaching out for him, before losing her balance and falling onto her bottom just in front of her dad.

“Evie, princess! Did my clever little girl just walk?” He cooed, clapping his hands together as the baby smiled at him. He scooped his daughter up and she clapped her little fists together copying his previous actions, before letting out a giggle - Fred swore he’d never heard something so adorable.

“You’re so smart, aren’t you baby girl?” You smiled, taking the baby as she held her arms out to you.

“Mama!”

Once she mastered walking, you found that you couldn’t get her to sit still for anything. A ball of energy just like her father, she happily ran around the place all day, especially enjoying when Fred would take her into work with him.

“We need to leave, come on Evie!” Fred held out her coat, watching as she crossed her arms over her chest and shook her head, “No! Don’ wanna!”

Fred sat beside her, “We’re going to daddy’s work though! Don’t you want to come?”

Her resolve relaxed a little as she raised her eyebrows, staring up at him, “Daddy wor’?”

“Yes princess, daddy’s work. And if you’re good, we could get you some ice cream before we go?”

She immediately stopped pouting, peering up at him through her dark lashes in excitement, and bouncing around in her seat, “Ice ‘eam?”

“Yes, ice cream!” Fred agreed, “Should we go?”

She nodded immediately and stood up, allowing him to put her shoes and coat on whilst she happily babbled out a story to him.

She grabbed his hand as they walked to Diagon Alley, stopping off for ice cream as promised, before she noticed the familiar orange building in the distance and suddenly let go of his hand, darting off through a couple of crowds of people.

“Wait, Evie, come back!” Fred called out, dodging people, running after his toddler, who was surprisingly fast when she wanted to be.

She ran through the doors of the joke shop and found George quickly, the latter busy restocking some shelves near the entrance, a box in his hands. At the sound of the door opening, he looked over and smiled softly at the little girl who had entered.

“Unca Geowge, I got ice ‘eam!” She announced happily to him, holding out the ice cream cone to him and ignoring the fact that ice cream was now running down her fist.

“Oh Merlin, you’ve got ice cream?” He faked his shock before noticing it was everywhere but in the actual cone, “Well you’ve definitely got it all over you haven’t you, darling?” He left the stock where it was, placing the box he was holding on the floor, grabbing the handkerchief out of his jacket pocket and crouching down to wipe her hands and cheeks.

“There we go, much better,” George nodded at her and she offered him a toothy grin.

“Tank you, Unca Geowge.”

He laughed as he watched an out-of-breath Fred nearly fall through the shop door, “No problem, sweetheart.”

“What did I say about running off, Evie?” Fred scolded her, though thankful that she had found the way to George without getting lost - he didn’t want to have to explain that he lost your daughter to you.

The little girl turned to her dad and dropped her head, pouting, “No’ to dwo it.”

Fred lifted her up and went to tell her off again, but stopped as he looked in her eyes, his face softening, “It’s okay baby, just don’t do it again, alright?”

She nodded, “I won’t.” Then, she turned away in his arms and dropped her ice cream cone onto the floor, before looking back up at her dad innocently, “I done wiv ice ‘eam now.”

“Evie,” he sighed, before placing her down on the floor and letting her run off towards George, who hid a laugh as Fred cleaned up the floor.

“You know what Mum would say,” George grinned, watching his brother pick up the cone and drop it into the bin beside the till counter.

Fred opened his mouth to answer, when suddenly there was a loud crash and the twins turned to where the noise came from, a stand of vials having fallen over.

Evie’s mouth was open as she pointed to the vials rolling across the floor, “Oopsie!”

“Karma,” Fred groaned, before moving off to clean up again after his daughter.

Wrapped around her finger, you always said. He’d do anything and everything his little girl asked of him, never being able to tell her ‘no’ without going back on his word once he saw her trembling bottom lip or puppy eyes.

You kicked off your heels as you entered your home, glad to finally be back after a long day.

“Hello?” You called out, rifling through the post that had been left on the table. You frowned when you didn’t receive a response, but the sound of giggling came from upstairs and you dropped the letters back where they were, going off to find your husband and daughter.

“What’s going on here?” You asked as you pushed the door to Evie’s room open, placing your bag down in the hallway and entering in. Fred looked up, and you stifled a laugh, noticing that your little girl had roped him into letting her do his makeup - if the lipstick on the cheeks and bright blue eyeshadow were anything to go by - a pink feather boa hanging round his neck, along with some costume jewellery clip-on earrings, a tiara and, your favourite, a way-too-small hot pink tutu around his waist as he sat at the little table in her room.

“Can’t you see, mummy?” Your daughter blinked up at you pointedly, “We’re having a tea party! I made daddy into a princess like in the stories you read to me!”

“He makes a very pretty princess, doesn’t he sweetie?” You grinned at Fred - who winked dramatically at you - before pressing a kiss to your daughter’s head as she nodded in agreement with you.

“Tea, daddy?” She asked, lifting her teapot and pouring her ‘tea’ into his cup without waiting for his answer. He raised the cup to his lips and stuck his pinky out, showing off the plastic rings he was also wearing.

“Delicious,” he confirmed as he placed the cup back down.

After spending nearly all their time together, Fred found it extremely difficult to say goodbye to his daughter on her first day at Hogwarts, not wanting to part from his little girl who he adored so much.

You walked along the platform, reminiscing about your own Hogwarts days, and hoping your daughter would make just as many happy memories as you watched families say goodbye to each other and friends reunite. Fred was holding her trunk, and she clutched your hand tightly.

“I’m scared,” you daughter admitted to you, looking around at all the Hogwarts students running around, laughing and boarding the train.

You lifted up the hand you were holding and pressed a kiss to her knuckles, “You’re going to be just fine, baby. You’re gonna have an amazing time, and probably won’t even want to come home!”

She laughed, “I’ll always come home, Mum.”

You pulled her into a hug, “We’re only an owl away, you know that.” Evie nodded, “I know.”

“Gonna miss you sweetheart. Who am I supposed to prank your Mum with now? I’ve lost my partner in crime!” Fred grinned, laughing as Evie ran into his arms.

“You’ve got Uncle George,” she nodded over to where said younger twin was stood, saying goodbye to his eldest.

“Don’t tell him, but I prefer you.”

Evie giggled, before grabbing her trunk from Fred and bidding you both goodbye. She took a few steps towards the train, before turning back around, dropping her trunk and running back over to you, giving you another hug, before moving back into her dad’s arms.

“I love you both so much,” she mumbled, before heading to re-pick her trunk up.

“We love you too, princess,” Fred replied, watching as she headed towards the train. She settled into a compartment after a minute or so, and waved at you both through the window. You waved back, offering her a reassuring smile.

“Is it too late to have another one?” Fred joked, his hand snaking around your waist and sliding into your back pocket.

You slapped his arm playfully and let out a laugh, shaking your head at him. You watched the train leave, smiling sadly and waving again, before glancing at him, “What are we gonna do with an empty house?”

Fred winked as you began to head off the platform, “Oh I have a few ideas in mind.”

The goodbyes didn’t get easier each year, but the time apart was helped by the letters Evie sent to you, always keeping in touch where she could. You kept each of her letters, reading them when you missed her most.

Her latest letter held news you’d been waiting for since you’d sent her off, rushing to write her back as soon as you’d received it, and before Fred got home from work to help with the response.

“Did you read her letter? She’s going on a date!” He called through to you in the kitchen. The shock in his voice amused you, though you were expecting some kind of resistance to this new development in your daughter’s life.

“I know!” You replied cheerfully, stirring the food on the stove, “The boy sounds so lovely!”

“Y/n, love, I don’t think you understand,” Fred frowned as he entered the kitchen, heading over to press a kiss to your lips before continuing, “Our baby girl is going on a date with some pathetic thirteen year old boy. I was a thirteen year old boy once! I know how they think!”

“He sounds really nice! And Evie seems to really like him,” you wrapped your arms around his neck and pressed another kiss to his lips, one he returned immediately, “Besides, you asked me on a date when we were thirteen, look how we’ve ended up!”

“That’s different.”

“How is that any different?” You laughed, shaking your head as you turned to stir the food again.

Fred pouted, wrapping his arms around your waist from behind and leaning his chin on your shoulder, “Because that’s my baby girl.”

“Your baby girl who is going on her first date. It’s exciting!” You insisted, “And anyway, I may or may not have already written back to her saying you approve...”

Fred’s eyes widened, his mouth dropping comically, “You did what?!”

Fred was always going to be apprehensive about any boy Evie mentioned she was dating - you assumed that much - and the day she came home for Christmas, completely upset, did not help this matter.

“I’m gonna kill him,” Fred growled, his first clenching as he thought about the no-good boyfriend - well, ex boyfriend - of his little girl, who had thought it was a good idea to break up with her just before Christmas.

“Fred, no-“

“I’m gonna kill him with my bare hands.”

“Fred-“ You tried to calm him down, knowing that though his anger was justified, it wouldn’t make Evie feel any better.

“Look at our little girl! Look what he did to her!” His face softened as he glanced into the living room at his daughter, who was curled up in the corner of the sofa, eyes closed, tears staining her cheeks.

“Look, I’m angry too. But what she needs right now is a lot of chocolate, cuddles, and her parents’ support. She doesn’t need you yelling about the boy, okay?” You looked at him pointedly, waiting for him to nod at you. When he does, you smile at him and gesture towards the teen girl, “Go see if you can cheer her up, eh?”

“It’s what I’m best at.”

Eventually, much to yours and Fred’s delight, Evie found a man she ended up falling for completely after she graduated from Hogwarts.

He was kind, smart, definitely charming, and you took a liking to him immediately. Fred took a little while longer, however he eventually admitted he really liked the guy, and loved how happy he made Evie.

The day he came to you both asking for Evie’s hand in marriage, you agreed without hesitation, and when your daughter came to you to show you her ring, you’d screamed in happiness and starting talking weddings immediately, bringing out catalogues and deciding on a dress together.

“You’ll do my hair and makeup, right Mum?” She had asked.

“Of course I will baby!”

You sat her on your bed on the morning of the wedding, humming as you twirled her hair into an intricate style and applied her last minute makeup touches.

“You look beautiful, sweetheart,” you whispered, pressing your lips together as a few tears escaped your eyes.

She leaned over and wiped the tears away, pulling you into a hug, “Thank you, Mum.”

She stayed with you whilst you got yourself ready, laughing about old memories, and talking about the future, about memories you were yet to make.

You’d just finished getting dressed when Fred knocked on the door, bringing in your daughter’s wedding dress that Molly had been so kind as to alter for her.

He placed the dress down on the bed carefully, turning to look you up and down and whistling as you shook your head at him, before he turned to Evie, who was smiling up at him.

“When did my baby girl get so gorgeous, huh?” He grinned, leaning down to hug her.

She returned the hug with a laugh, “Dad, come on, stop it! You’re gonna make me cry, and Mum just finished helping me do my makeup.”

“I can’t help it. I look at you and I still see my little girl. But you’re all grown up now, I guess you’re not so little, huh?”

Evie smiled, pulling away from the hug to look at him, “I’ll always be your little girl, Dad.”

You finally ushered Fred out as you helped your daughter into her dress, adding last minute touches where needed.

“Where did the time go, eh?” You asked her, looking at her in the mirror, “I feel like you were a baby just yesterday.”

She smiled at your reflection, “Time flies when you’re having fun, right?”

When Fred saw his daughter in her wedding dress, he swallowed, feeling how he did when he had to say goodbye to her on Platform 9 3/4 every year - it was bittersweet, knowing she was leaving, but also just knowing she was going off to live her life, and make her own happy memories, made it all worth it.

“Ready to give me away?”

And as he looked down at his daughter, her excitement evident and barely fighting the grin that spread from ear to ear, he swallowed and couldn’t help but smile back at her.

He nodded, “Yeah, I’m ready.”

He felt her cling onto his arm and smiled to himself softly.

No matter what, no matter where life took her, she would always be his little girl.

It had been a long school day for the Frye children.

Filled with tests, arithmetic, literacy and cursive writing to name the few things they had to do that day.

Lunch time was a nice break from the school room and their strict school master Mr baileys.

��Hurry up Emmett mum is making jam sandwiches for lunch!” Amelia announced anxiously as she waited for her little brother to stop chatting with a few of the other boys.

“Hey smelly melly!” A shrill voice rang out right near the poor girls ear.

As she turned there was more giggles, it was Elizabeth, Olivia and Anna-Beth...

“What do you want?” Amelia asked trying not to look nervous as the girls stood over her, which wasn’t hard for them being three years older.

“We just wanted to know where you got this dress” Elizabeth asked with a condescending smirk as she pulled at the blue Cotton.

“M-My mum made it..”

“Really? We thought you pulled it out of the garbage” Anna-Beth answered causing the others to giggle.

“Yeah it’s disgusting and ugly just like you” Olivia added as the two other girls voiced their agreement.

Poor Amelia couldn’t help but shrink, feeling her eyes well up with tears...

“Oh why are we wasting our time on her Lizzy, she’s just an ugly waste of space!” Anne-Beth huffed.

“Yeah! Bye smelly melly!” They giggled before turning and running away.

Amelia sniffled and wiped her eyes,

‘I can’t cry...I have to be tough’ she thought as Emmett finally made his way over.

“Sorry Milly let’s go I’m hungry!” The boy laughed, clearly not seeing the redness of her sisters eyes.

The children quickly walked home....Amelia mind reeling with many terrible thoughts.

Soon they made it to their home and walked in to the kitchen to find their father sitting at the kitchen table in the middle of the day eating a sandwich!

“Daddy you’re home!” Emmett announced excitedly before bounding up to his father and giving him a large hug, it was a rare occasion.

“Hey my little rooks!” Jacob laughed as he pulled and arm around his son and patted him on the back, Amelia stood by the kitchen door watching everything unfold.

“Where’s mum?” Amelia asked softly.

“She’s out the back doing the washing” Jacob answered with a chuckle as he looked up to see his daughter...her eyes were red....she looked upset...

“What’s wrong princess?” He asked with a slight frown.

“Trouble with that teacher of yours?”

“No daddy...”

Oh no...Amelia only called him that when she was sick or well and truly upset...

Carefully Jacob put down his sandwich and let go of Emmett before motioning his little girl to come over.

Reluctantly she did...

“Now come on...tell your old man what’s wrong” he asked with a small smile, trying to bring as much positivity to the situation as possible...

“D-Daddy....Am I ugly?” Amelia asked in a whimper as tears finally welled up in her hazel eyes and her throat felt tight.

Jacob felt as if his heart was going to shatter, who put such an idea in to his baby’s head!?

“Oh sweetheart no...” he cooed softly and pulled her in to a hug, feeling now as her small body started to wrack with sobs.

“You are so so beautiful, whoever said you weren’t is a dirty lying ba-“ Jacob had to stop himself before he said some things he’d regret.

Emmett stood to the side bewildered, why would his big sister think this?

“B-But I’m smelly...and ugly..” Amelia sniffled as she tried to stop crying in to her fathers emerald green vest.

“No, you’re not my princess...who told you that?” The gangster asked while stroking her long brown hair, he wanted names! He didn’t care if they were children! No one made his child feel so miserable and get away with it unscaved!

“Elizabeth camber....Anna-Beth stokes....Olivia bennet...” she finally answered sniffling and wiping the tears from her eyes, now finally starting to calm down.

“P-Please don’t do anything dad you’ll just make it worse..”

“Sorry princess no one bullies my baby and gets away with it” Jacob added as he started to pull on his coat and hat before leaving out the back door.

He was angry!

Luckily though Rebekah stopped him before he reached the street, and could whip the asses of three eleven year old girls and their fathers!

Soon an agreement was reached, Emmett and Amelia would stay home for the rest of the day and in the morning Jacob would go “talk” to the headmaster.

And what a talk it was! When Amelia finally went back the three girls were sat at the front of the class, you could easily tell they had gotten in trouble by the indication of their reddened faces and how uncomfortable they looked in their seats.

She couldn’t help but smile a little bit to herself...she knew she definitely had the best father in the world....

You turned to it, seeing a tall male, red scarlet jacket, fluffy curly black hair, ocean blue eyes lined with kohl, diamond-cut jaw, and..and a hook in his left hand.

The male tensed slightly still taunting Ben but seeming to have another conversation in his head.

So you talked, about what was going to happen, and what was going on tomorrow, and what would happen after.

You hummed stopping your pacing, looking down at Harry sitting on his bed.

Harry shuffled his feet, playing with his hook, and biting his lip.

You paused, staring at him, he looked up at you, shy and unsure, you bit your lip, sitting down on the bed next to him.

“yes” you whispered, Harry didn’t waste a second, leaning in and passionately pressing his lips to yours.

You moaned in response as he pushed you down onto the bed, wrapping his arms around your waist, you curl your fingers into his hair. He nipped your lip as you pulled his black curled locks

The next morning, you woke up in Harry's arms (completely clothed btw you nastys~ ;p) you groaned as you uncurled yourself from harry, sitting up from the bed, you stretched.

You heard harry sniff as he sat up, laying his head between your shoulder blades.

You had ended up tied with ben, to give the illusion that you weren’t apart of the plan. Ben apologized to you, saying that he was sorry you had never had the chance to meet your soulmate.

You tried to rush to the tunnel with the others, but Uma snapped the “wand” and order for the crew to take you down.

Muchas veces en nuestros proyectos web necesitamos que los usuarios puedan obtener un archivo, el problema es cuando este pesa en GB, por esta razón hoy veremos cómo descargar archivos grandes en PHP mediante una sencilla función.

Hace tiempo necesitaba implementar la descarga de archivos con PHP.

El problema es que eran archivos muy pesados, de gigas.

Cualquera que haya trabajado con archivos grandes sabe que suele ser un dolor de cabeza.

Wentz Turner Memorial ödüllü piyanist Jerfi Aji tarafından oluşturulan bu topluluk, oda müziğinin herkesçe bilinen şaheserlerinden Beethoven’ın Archduke Trio’su ve Dvořák’ın Dumky Trio’sunu ve ayrıca Kamran İnce’nin festivalimiz için özel olarak bestelediği Dede Remix’i seslendirecekler.

Olgu Kızılay 1988 yılında keman eğitimine Dokuz Eylül Üniversitesi İzmir Devlet Konservatuvarında Prof. Hazar ALAPINAR ile başladı. 1994-1998 yılları arasında Fransa’da kurulan Akdeniz Gençlik Orkestrasına kabul edildi. On yıllık eğitimini 1998 yılında dereceyle tamamladı. Aynı yıl Fransa’da Strazburg Ulusal Devlet Konservatuvarı’nın Yüksek Lisans programını Prof. Joshua EPSTEİN ile okumaya hak kazandı ve eğitimi süresince okul orkestrası ve oda orkestrasının başkemancılığını sürdürdü. 2000 yılında Master programında birincilik ve aynı yıl oda müziğinden Altın Madalya alarak mezun oldu.1999-2002 konser sezonlarında Strazburg Filarmoni Orkestrası, Mulhouse Senfoni Orkestrası ve Bas-Rhin Operasında sanatçı olarak görev aldı. 2001’de Fransa Konservatuvarlar Arası Özel Jurisi’nin yapmış olduğu sınavda Konsertist Diplomasını aldı. 2003 yılında da Strazburg Ulusal Devlet Konservatuvarı’nın Doktora Programından birincilikle mezun olan sanatçı, Fransa’daki eğitimi boyunca birçok oda müziği konserleri ve çağdaş bestecilerin CD kayıtlarını yapmıştır.2005–2010 yılları arasında Borusan İstanbul Filarmoni Orkestrası’nda 2. keman grup şefliği yaptı. 2005-2018 yılları arasında Borusan Quartet üyesi olarak Rheingau, Schleswig-Holstein, Merano, Mozart, Napfilon, Bodensee, West Cork, Europalia, Mersin, Bodrum, İstanbul ve Ankara müzik festivallerine katıldı. 2010 yılında New York’taki Carnegie Hall’da finali gerçekleşen 2010 ICMEC Uluslararası Oda Müziği Topluluğu Yarışması’nda 1. olarak altın madalyanın sahibi oldu. Tonhalle (Zürih), Carnegie Hall (New York), Concertgebauw (Amsterdam), Philharmonie de Paris (Paris), Le Corum (Montpellier), Schloss Elmau (Münih), Megaron (Atina) L’arsenal (Metz), G. Verdi Hall (Milano) ve Musikverein (Viyana) gibi seçkin salonlarda konserler verdi. Olgu Kızılay, 1874 yılı Jean Baptiste Vuillaume yapımı kemanla çalmaktadır.

Dorukhan Doruk X. Witold Lutoslawski Uluslararası Viyolonsel Yarışması’nın da aralarında bulunduğu birçok uluslararası yarışmada ödüller kazanan genç çellist Dorukhan Doruk, genç yaşına rağmen Wiener Konzerthaus, Zürih Tonhalle, Cenevre Victoria Hall, gibi Avrupa’nın en önemli salonlarında solo ve oda müziği konserleri vermiş, 42. İstanbul Müzik Festivali’nin açılışını yapmış olmasının yanısıra, Verbier Festivali, Schleswig-Holstein Müzik Festivali, Bodensee Festivali, Ozawa-Matsumoto Festivali gibi saygın festivallerde solist olarak sahne almıştır.Polonya’da X. Witold Lutoslawski Uluslararası Viyolonsel Yarışması’nda 2.lik ve 2 özel ödül, Belçika’da “Lions Avrupa Müzik Yarışması’nda” 1.lik, Hırvatistan’da “8. Antonio Janigro Viyolonsel Yarışması’nda” 1.lik ödülüne ek olarak 5 ayrı özel ödül, Avusturya’da “Liezen Viyolonsel Yarışması’nda” 1.lik, Almanya’da “Bodensee Musikwettbewerb” yarışmasında 3.lük ödülüne ve daha birçok ödüle layık görülmüştür.Orkestra ile ilk konserini 13 yaşında veren sanatçı Varşova Filarmoni, Zagreb Solistleri, Württembergisches Kammerorchester, Budapeşte Yaylı Sazlar Orkestrası, Kurpfälzisches Kammerorchester, Junge Philharmonie Köln, Les Symphonistes Européens, Seongnam Filarmoni Orkestrası , Slovak Sinfonietta, Borusan İstanbul Filarmoni Orkestrası, Cumhurbaşkanlığı Senfoni Orkestrası gibi orkestralar eşliğinde viyolonsel repertuvarının zorlu eserlerini seslendirmiş olmasının yanısıra Fazıl Say ile kendisinin “Dört Şehir” Sonatını seslendirdikleri bir Türkiye turnesi gerçekleştirmiş, Avusturya ve İsviçre’de resitaller vermiştir.Yo-Yo Ma, Gary Hoffman, David Geringas, Steven Isserlis, Ralph Kirshbaum, Jens Peter Maintz, Torleif Thédeen, Antonio Meneses gibi dünyaca ünlü viyolonselcilerle çeşitli uzmanlık kurslarında çalışmıştır.Almanya’daki 4 yıllık öğrenimi boyunca DAAD bursuna layık görülen sanatçı, 2016-2018 yılları arasında Mariss Jansons yönetimindeki Bavyera Radyo Senfoni Orkestrası’nda çalmıştır. Güher&Süher Pekinel “Dünya Sahnelerinde Genç Müzisyenler” projesi çerçevesinde 2010-2017 yılları arasında enstrüman ve yaşam bursuyla desteklenmiş olan Doruk, eğitimine Universität der Künste Berlin’de Prof. Jens Peter Maintz’in sınıfında doktora öğrencisi olarak devam etmekte ve kendisine “Deutsche Stiftung Musikleben” Vakfı’nın enstrüman fonundan temin edilen “Paolo Antonio Testore” yapımı bir çelloyla çalmaktadır.

Jerfi Aji 1976 İstanbul doğumlu Jerfi Aji, lisans eğitimini İTÜ Makina Fakültesi Tekstil Mühendisliği bölümünde, yüksek lisansını Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Endüstri Mühendisliği bölümünde tamamladı. Piyanoya 5 yaşında Zeynep Aksoy Eğilmez’den aldığı özel derslerle başlayan Aji, çalışmalarına Hülya Ardıç ile devam etti. İTÜ-MİAM’da piyano çalışmalarını Devlet Sanatçısı Ayşegül Sarıca ile sürdürdü. 2006 yılında Johns Hopkins Üniversitesi Peabody Konservatuarı’na kabul edilen Aji, piyano alanında doktora çalışmalarını Marian Hahn ile tamamlayarak 2011 yılında mezun oldu. Bu kurumda öğrenciliği sırasında Opera Eşlikçiliği (Korrepetisyon) alanında çalışma bursu kazandı.Leon Fleisher, Murray Perahia ve Jerome Rose’un ustalık sınıflarında çalan sanatçı, aralarında Thomas Hecht, Dimitry Rachmanov, Angela Cheng ve Ali Darmar’ın da bulunduğu birçok ünlü piyanist ve pedagog ile çalışma fırsatı buldu. 2005 yılında New York’ta düzenlenen “International Keyboard Institute and Festival”e ve Muncie, Indiana’da düzenlenen ARIA Uluslararası Yaz Akademisi’ne katıldı. Jerfi Aji, yurtiçinde Süreyya Operası, Boğaziçi Üniversitesi Albert Long Hall, Ahmed Adnan Saygun Sanat Merkezi, Erimtan Müzesi, Akbank Sanat, Borusan Müzik Evi ve Fulya Sanat gibi salonlarda ve ABD’de çeşitli kültür merkezlerinde verdiği solo ve oda müziği konserlerinin yanısıra, James Buswell, Amit Peled, Carol Ou, Ellen Jewett, Michael Berkovsky, Hüseyin Sermet ve Cihat Aşkın gibi önemli sanatçılar ile birlikte konser vermiştir. Jerfi Aji, Ocak 2019’da İtalya’nın Catania şehrinde düzenlenen ve jüri başkanlığını Avustralyalı duayen piyanist Leslie Howard’ın yaptığı Sicilya Uluslararası Piyano Yarışması’nda ödül kazanan üç finalistten biri olmuştur. 2011 yılında Peabody Konservatuarı tarafından piyano alanında verilen Frances M. Wentz Turner Anma Ödülü’ne layık görülen sanatçı 2014 yılında Doçent ünvanına hak kazanmıştır ve İTÜ-MİAM’da ders vermektedir.

Down Will Come Baby- When Fairytales Break chapter 8

Pairing: Liam x MC; Bastien x MC

Word count: 2,267

Warnings: angst, talks of abortion

Summary: Liam awaits information and Bastien comforts Everly.

A/N: This might be a tad confusing, lots to address and jumping around. As always if Everly is present it will be her POV. Thanks to @stopforamoment for talking this out with me and giving me the courage to go to this place.

Liam sat at his desk, flipping through the medical records searching for any clue that might point him to who Everly had tested. He racked his brain for anyone that showed even the slightest bit of interest in her that he may have missed before, only to continually come up empty. He needed to know who was the father of the child that was supposed to be his heir. He felt like he’d been played a fool by her, how could she?! It was as if he’d blocked out all parts of the conversation where she told him she had tried to speak to him about not wanting this life, in his mind it was he the one who had been wronged. A tentative tap came on his door. “Come in.” He called out, not looking up from the documents, anxious for one visitor only.

“Uh—sir, I ummm have that information you asked for.” The nervous voice made him look up.

“Ah, yes.” Liam sat back in his chair folding his hands over his chest. “You followed her?”

“Y—yes sir.”

“Where did she go?”

The guard nervously shifted from one foot to the other. “Mister Lykel’s room sir.”

“Did she say anything?” He tensed, anger filling his veins, his head guard?

“I couldn’t get close enough to hear them sir.” The guard swallowed nervously, he was going against his boss. “But she was very upset, and he seemed very worried.”

“So it was Bastien and I just left them together, I’m sure they were very happy about that.” He said more to himself as he shook his head. “I need you to find out anything you can about their…. relationship.” The last word spat from his mouth like bile.

“Sir?” The guard swallowed thickly.

“Is there a problem?” His eyebrow raised in question.

“It’s just, he’s the head guard—”

“And I’m the king, and I’m ordering you to look into Bastien Lykel’s relationship with Queen Everly.”

“Y—yes sir.”

“I expect frequent updates.” Liam turned back to his desk, his jaw clenching in anger. “You may go now.” He dismissed the guard with a wave of his hand.

“O—of course sir.” The guard bowed and quickly shuffled from the room.

Liam leaned forward, palms pressing against the desktop, his head guard, he never would have expected him. How could he have been so blind, they had been able to hide a complete relationship from him. He began to question every interaction between the two, every moment he had with her since she came to Cordonia. How long? Did it really end or did she just say that to appease me? The timing added up, things could have ended before they were married, he needed to know everything about their relationship, he needed to find a way to save his own name.

“Evie, it’s alright, I’m here and I’m not going anywhere. I’ve got you and our little bird.” Bastien said holding her in a comforting embrace, seated on his bed. Our little bird, the word made his heart swell with love and pride.

Everly nodded sniffling, her sobs only recently subsiding. Her tear filled eyes raised to meet his. “I’m sorry.”

“Why Evie?” He gently tucked a strand of hair behind her ear.

“He found out, it’s all my fault.” She shook her head. “If I had just waited.”

“Evie, stop, it’s not your fault. He would have found out no matter what.”

“But—”

“But nothing, I promised you that I’d get you free and I meant it.”

“How?”

Bastien paused in thought, Everly’s heart raced with fear at his hesitation. “I’m not entirely sure yet Evie, but I promise, I will get you free.” He pressed a gently kiss to her temple.

Everly looked down, growing quite. “What’s wrong Evie?” Bastien took her hand, his thumb rubbing across her knuckles.

She drew her eyes upwards, grass green shining with fresh tears. “He’s going to know it’s you.” Her voice barely above a whisper. As much as she feared the idea of being confined to this life for the rest of hers, she dreaded Bastien being punished, his name being drug through the mud more than her own captivity. Whatever come to her she could handle but she couldn’t bear to see him lose everything simply because he loved her.

Bastien sighed softly, he didn’t want to worry her more. “I’m sure he already knows.”

“How?” She sat up, her eyes wide with fear.

“If he’s anything like his father he would have sent someone to follow you.”

Everly’s throat tightened, everything was exposed, and she was the only one to blame. Her need to know now allowed Liam to gain the knowledge that her little bird wasn’t his, her pain at the thought of losing Bastien lead Liam directly to him. Everything she needed was in this room, but now thanks to her their happiness would surely be threatened. My journal! She racked her brain, trying to remember if she put it away, she could only imagine Liam’s reaction if he were to find and read it. She let out a slow steady breath as she remembered that she put back in her drawer before heading to see Liam. She was thankful in that moment that she had noticed it sitting out in the living room. “I’m so sorry Bas.”

“Evie, you did nothing wrong. You were upset and worried and I’m glad you came to me.” His phone vibrated in pocket. He pulled it out, his body tensing as he read the text.

“What is it?”

“It’s Liam, he wants to see me… now.”

Oh god! He knows! “I’m coming with you.”

“Evie, I promise everything will be alright. Just stay here please.”

She couldn’t lose him, maybe if she was there she could finally convince Liam of what she had tried to explain since the second week of the social season. “Bas—”

Bastien stood, he turned, taking both her hands in his own. “Evie, we aren’t even sure that’s why he wants to see me.” She nodded softly, and he knew she wasn’t buying it. “I love you.” He kissed her forehead. “I will come back.” He placed a lingering kiss to her lips before heading out the door.

Everly watched him with tearfilled eyes, and fear in her heart. Please be right that it has nothing to do with us. She reached for his pillow, clutching it to her chest, she took a deep breath in allowing his scent to calm her. Oh little bird I hope we can gain our freedom.

Bastien sat across from Liam, his face calm showing no emotion as his heart hammered in his chest. He had his suspicions as to why Liam requested to see him, but he refused to show his nerves. He would not show his hand, he needed to help free her from her cage, to achieve it he needed to remain calm.

“So I hear you and Queen Everly enjoyed your time together when I was away working.”

We both know you weren’t really working or you would have checked on her. “Sir?” Bastien asked, his body tensing imperceptibly.

Liam stood, walking to look out the window at his mother’s gardens. “I came home early because I received interesting results from Everly’s stay at the hospital.” He paused seemingly in thought. “To say that I was surprised that she had our child’s paternity tested would be an understatement….I was even more surprised to find out that the child she carries is not my heir as it should be.”

Bastien’s jaw clenched, even having been told by Evie about the invasion of her privacy, hearing it from Liam made his blood boil. “What does that have to do with me sir?” He wouldn’t give him more than necessary, if he didn’t know he wouldn’t be the one to tell him, not yet.

Liam let out a short, sarcastic laugh. “You can drop the act Bastien, I’m aware the child she carries is yours.”

Bastien stayed silent unsure how to respond. How does one acknowledge a relationship with the woman you’re meant to be protecting?

“How long?” Liam questioned turning from the window. “How long has your relationship been going on under my nose?”

Bastien had to bite back the bitter laugh threatening to cross his lips. They had every intention of revealing their relationship at the end of the social season, they would have had Liam not chosen her and forced her into the life that broke her spirit, tore her down until he could barely recognize the woman who captured his heart. “We didn’t hide it.” Bastien ignored Liam’s forced laugh. “Everly pulled back from the social season early on, we started seeing each other during the first weeks. She hated the spectacle’s, she hid in your mother’s gardens. I happened upon her by accident, I listened to her, we grew closer. She would have dropped from the social season but she didn’t want to embarrass you… We were going to reveal our relationship at the end of the social season, except you picked her. She tried on multiple occasions to explain to you, Regina, your father, anyone that she wasn’t cut out to be Queen but everyone brushed it off as jitters or cold feet.” Bastien paused, unsure how much to share. Should he tell Liam that Everly all but begged him to run away with her? He cleared his throat. “We ended it the night before she married you and became Queen.”

Liam’s eyes narrowed, his hand flexing, as his jaw clenched, of course he would try to put this on me! “That does not explain the past two weeks. If things truly ended—”

“Until you left her in my care while you went off to work, I had kept my distance. I intended to keep her at arms length, and then she needed to be rushed to the hospital, you barely checked on her.” He paused, Liam’s eyes flashing with anger. “Evie told me then that she may be mine.” Liam’s eyebrow raised, Bastien realized then that Liam had no idea that Everly was carrying a girl. He fought the urge to jump from his seat and deck him, this man cared so little for her or her child, he barely paid her attention after forcing her into a marriage she never wanted. “She was so alone and broken, I barely recognized her anymore, something in me broke, it was after she was released that we reconnected.”

Liam gave a curt nod, turning back towards the window. “Well that doesn’t matter, the relationship ends for good now.”

“Excuse me?” Surely he misheard.

“The relationship. ends. now. If Everly and I are to move forward then you can no longer be involved with her. Of course first we will have to fix the mistake you two made.

Bastien felt like the anger may consume him, there was no way that Liam truly believed that Everly would stay in this unwanted marriage. Handle the mistake? Was he proposing what he thought? “Surely taking care of it wouldn’t be in the best interest of the crown, if word got out—”

Liam spun back around. “If word got out she was having another man’s child it would be far worse.” He crossed back to his desk. “There is only one way out of this mess, and that’s to handle the unwanted child.”

Unwanted? Bastien’s eyes hardened, Liam couldn’t be further from the truth if he tried. “And how would you possibly explain aborting, killing the child.” Maybe if he called it what it was it would bring Liam some sense of how horrible what he was suggesting truly was.

“Early labor, unable to be helped, the loss devastating.” The words, the lies rolled easily off of Liam’s tongue. “She’s already been hospitalized for cramping, it’s easy enough to frame in a favorable light.”

Bastien’s hands curled around the armrests of the chair, his grip so tight his knuckles whitened. “Evie would never agree, I would never agree!”

“You don't get a say.”

“I’m the father!” It took everything in him to remain seated and not commit treason on the spot.

“And I’m her husband.” Liam growled, his palms coming down heavily on the desktop. “She will get rid of the child, for the stability of the country.”

Bastien’s blood boiled in his veins so hot he was sure he was smoking from his ears. “Everly doesn’t care about the country, she never wanted to be Queen! She loves this child and she would never get rid of it.” I refuse to give you the chance to! He pushing up from the chair so quickly, the force knocked the chair backwards.

“Well she is Queen and it’s her duty to serve Cordonia. You of all people should understand that.” His patronizing smirk lacked all warmth.

The force of Liam’s words left him winded, he needed to free her no matter what it took. He’d known what it would take, now he saw he had no choice. He saw there was no reasoning with Liam, not in that moment, he needed to regroup and make sure he had exactly what he needed to ensure Everly’s freedom once more. He moved swiftly towards the door, his pulse thundering in his ears. He yanked the door open, slamming it hard enough to shake the frame behind him. He wouldn’t allow her to be caged any longer, he wouldn’t allow their little bird, their child to become collateral damage.
