What is in emergency first aid?
Emergency first aid refers to the initial care provided to someone who has been injured or is experiencing a sudden illness. The primary goals of basic first aid are to preserve life, prevent the condition from worsening, and promote recovery. While not a substitute for professional medical care, CRP first aid can make a significant difference in the outcome of an emergency situation. Here are some common elements of emergency first aid:
1. Assessment:
Ensure your safety and the safety of others.
Assess the situation and identify any potential hazards.
Check the person's responsiveness and breathing.
2. Activation of Emergency Medical Services (EMS):
Call for professional medical help by dialing the emergency number.
3. CPR (Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation):
If the person is not breathing or has no pulse, CPR may be necessary. This involves chest compressions and rescue breaths.
4. AED (Automated External Defibrillator):
Use an AED if available. AEDs can deliver an electric shock to the heart to restore a normal rhythm in cases of sudden cardiac arrest.
5. Control of Bleeding:
Apply direct pressure to wounds to control bleeding.
Elevate the injured limb if possible.
Use a tourniquet as a last resort if bleeding cannot be controlled by other means.
6. Treatment of Shock:
Keep the person warm.
Have them lie down with their legs elevated (unless it causes further injury).
7. Treatment of Burns:
Cool the burn with running water for at least 10 minutes.
Cover the burn with a clean, non-stick bandage.
8. Treatment of Fractures and Sprains:
Immobilize the injured area.
Use a splint if available.
9. Choking Maneuver:
Perform the Heimlich maneuver for a conscious choking victim.
10. Seizure Management:
Protect the person from injury by moving nearby objects.
Place the person on their side after the seizure to maintain an open airway.
11. Assisting with Medications:
Assist the person in taking any prescribed medications if necessary.
12. Providing Comfort and Reassurance:
Keep the person calm and reassured.
Offer comfort and support.
It's important to note that first aid techniques may vary based on the specific situation and the resources available. Additionally, receiving formal first aid training from certified organizations can enhance your ability to respond effectively in emergency situations.

Okay I’ve been putting off doing this first aid course right up until the deadline (tonight at midnight) because ugh how dreary and also my studies have been my priority
Actually this is my anxiety’s worst nightmare now I’m worrying about how many people DON’T know important first aid
Most of it is logical but stuff like “do not roll a heavily pregnant woman to her left side as this could block major arteries” IS NOT one I knew and I’m glad I do now
Also realising as the concussion section plays that yeah I really did get concussion from horse riding that time I got yeeted like a sack of potato
Alhamdulilah I didn’t have any severe brain damage or anything, I mean aside from the basic stuff I have from yk, trauma
Not gonna be that stupid again Insha’Allah
Also I’m low key annoyed that I have energy after work and it was bright and sunny but I had to spend it on this course because I can’t risk putting it off and potentially missing the deadline or it’ll screw up the course for everyone I think

Sword Spirit AU - Xiu Ya (pt.1)
Hello hello! This is going to be a very very casual AU with the first half being dedicated to Xiu Ya(jiuyuan) and the other Xin Mo(bingyuan), so sit tight, relax, and maybe put on some Soul Eater in the background, because this is basically it.
This post is going to be VERY LONG, so sorry in advance ^^;;
Tumblr media
It's finally time for Shen Jiu to go to Wan Jian Peak and get his spiritual sword, one of the final steps for his Shizun to finally, oficially, name him Head Disciple, even if the rest of Qing Jing will most likely fight Shizun in her decision.
It would be no surprise, ever since SJ stepped foot there, rumors have been spreading about him, usually about how he only got in so late due to Yue Qi's influence, or how he paid his way in as a young master (as if the rest of the disciples hadn't done exactly that) and thinks he's better than everyone, or how he never fights fair and uses underhanded methods during spars. All rumors don't hold a drop of truth in them of course, but SJ has better things to do than trying to clean his image to a bunch of spoiled brats.
It's not like any of them would believe him, anyways.
In all honesty, he'd rather not be Head Disciple at all, but this is the best way at getting to a secure enough spot that he won't have to worry as much about his safety, even if he will be forced to look after a bunch of children he couldn't care less about. Anyways, SJ's only hope now for something to go marginally right his way is for him to get a good sword.
He gets to the sword wall and, as luck would have it, he feels a pull, calling him to a beautiful sword: elegant, refined and everything SJ desperately hopes he can be.
SJ carefully pulls the sword out of the wall and immediatelly he can feel a connection forming, his slugish qi rushing into the blade and in exchange, a flash of bright, almost refreshing qi runs through him. For a moment his muscles relax as he feels the sword gently humming in his hand.
He walks away from the wall, a few of the other disciples that also had come to retrieve their spiritual sword already holding their own blades, but the only person that SJ cares to show his own sword stands a bit further away. His ever aloof Shizun and... Yue Qi, who was not invited, but decided to come anyways. Great.
YQ wastes no time in praising his sword and how it's a perfect fit for 'Xiao-Jiu' (which only earns him a nasty side-eye), but SJ controls his urge to bite the other boy and focuses on his Shizun. She merely send the sword a glance, unimpressed, and instead says "Disciple Shen has now a spiritual blade of his own. He will get to know his blade, which will aid him with his... cultivation problems, but also raise his cultivation to new heights."
SJ grinds his teeth, not wanting to be reminded about his shitty cultivation, but thankfully, Shizun doesn't dwell on the topic. "When Disciple Shen fully becomes one with his sword, the blade will reward him and show it's true self. It is only then that Disciple Shen will become a truly honorable cultivator."
True... Self? With a subtle glance, SJ confirms even YQ looks a bit surprised, apparently also never haven heard about a swords 'true self', but Shizun doesn't ellaborate any further on it, instead moving on as if she hadn't said anything special, and turning to head back to Qing Jing, uncaring if any other disciples weren't done getting their swords yet.
She unsheathes her own spiritual sword, intending on letting her disciples walk all the way back, but before setting off, she turns towards SJ. "Disciple Shen, the name of your sword."
SJ huffs but brings his sword closer, and reads the engraving on the base of the blade. "...Xiu Ya."
Just as SJ finishes reading the name out loud, the sword starts violently vibrating, catching SJ and his Shizun off guard, and it flings itself off of SJ's hands, flying a short distance before it stabbed the ground.
SJ's hands are left hanging in the air where he once held the sword, frozen stiff in his shock. It certainly doesn't help that is Shizun, who is never phased and now looks visibly shocked, mutters to herself: "I... didn't know a sword could do that."
.........Great.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
A week after the whole... situation on Wan Jian, SJ is now convinced his spiritual sword hates him.
It just... doesn't do anything he wants it to do! If his Shizun orders him to spar with another disciple with it, Xiu Ya could randomly just fling itself out of his hand, or physically pull him in another direction when he is speaking with another disciple, and no matter how Shizun instructs him to send his qi to the blade, to 'connect' with it, Xiu Ya refuses to cooperate, one day even straight up denying his qi.
Unbeknownst to SJ, his sword is no longer a regular spiritual blade, and actually a host for a recently deceased Shen Yuan, who woke up from his sleep to his new owner pulling him out of the wall and promptly panicked when he heard his name be declared Xiu Ya, which could only mean his new owner was none other than the scum villain himself, SQQ.
It was then and there that SY decided it would be now his life's mission to stop any evil wrongdoings a teenage SQQ must get up to. (It translated to him flinging himself out of SJ's hand any time he felt himself getting too close to another disciple's skin, or vibrating angrily when SJ started to insult someone.)
SJ takes Xiu Ya to his Shizun, and even to Wan Jian's Peak Lord, to check if there's something wrong with his sword, or if he had done soemthing wrong, but both reassure him that the sword is fine, and it must be testing him, urging him to 'clear his heart' to better connect with it.
SJ, feeling like his chance at being Head Disciple is slipping through his fingers the longer he can't get a hold of his own sword, it's supposed to obey him, tends more often than not to... argue with it. It, of course, only creates more rumours about him and his 'cursed sword', but he doesn't have time for this, and he won't let a piece of metal ruin his chances at rising up the ranks.
Tumblr media
Everything starts to change one fateful day where everything just seems to go wrong all at once for SJ: His Shizun goes away in a three-day long mission, which leaves him the responsability to look after the peak, and none of the other disciples are willing to make it easy for him, constantly getting in his way, purposefully waisting his time and straight up insulting him to his face.
Yue Qi even tries to grace SJ with his presence, but it takes him no longer than 5 minutes before he manages to say the wrong thing, and it takes even less for it to snowball into SJ expelling him from the peak unless the whole Sect is set on fire. It gets so bad even SY, usually happy to mostly daydream where he sits sheathed at SJ's waist, takes note of it, and gets a bit concerned for the boy.
SY already notices SJ's spiritual veins where all sorts of messed up, but it only becomes relevant when he notices his qi heading straight towards a qi deviation, and no matter how SY tries to vibrate and wiggle, it only seems to upset SJ even further and by the end of the day, as SY suspected, SJ hides away at the bamboo house and falls to the floor, gasping through a qi deviation.
He'd usually just tough his qi deviations out, or pass them at the Warm Red Pavillion, but now he isn't even afforded the mercy of being to suffer alone, as some disciple might come looking for his 'help', and he'd be damned if someone snitched on him to Shizun for not doing his duty as (unnoficial) Head Disciple.
SY, as much as he doesn't really like SJ, for once understands SJ's constant state of frustration when the moment the Peak Lord leaves, his peers treat him like this, and no matter how shitty SJ is- or, rather, may become in the future, SY can't stand being idle as he watches the boy shaking on the floor, gasping in pain.
It's a bit awkward but SY manages to make himself float over towards SJ's trembling body, trying his best to project his own energy outward and reach towards SJ. It's there for only a second, but SY manages to feel a similar connection to when SJ first picked him up, and SY can feel, in a weird flash, the mix of emotions swirling in SJ's soul: his anger, his frustration, but most importantly his deeply rooted sadness, and fear.
It's not really an explanation for why SJ acts the way he does, but SY can understand when a child lashes out in fear when that's all they know. He reaches into SJ's qi, carefully patting it down and soothing it until SJ finally stops trembling and slumps onto the ground, knocked out.
Maybe... Maybe Shen Yuan was in the wrong, and Shen Jiu deserves a second chance.

Confidence in Crisis: How a First Aid Course Makes a Difference
Emergencies and accidents are a part of life, and they can happen when we least expect them. In such moments of crisis, knowing what to do can make all the difference between life and death. This is where a first aid course comes into play. Beyond just learning the technical aspects of first aid, these courses instill confidence in individuals, empowering them to take immediate action in times of crisis. In this blog post, we'll explore how a first aid course can be a game-changer, providing the confidence needed to navigate emergencies effectively.
Tumblr media
Knowledge is Empowerment
First and foremost, a first aid course equips individuals with valuable knowledge about how to respond to various emergencies. Participants learn how to assess injuries, provide initial care, and take appropriate steps while waiting for professional help. This knowledge alone can significantly boost confidence during crisis situations.
Hands-On Practice
While theoretical knowledge is crucial, practical experience is equally essential. A good first aid course includes hands-on practice, allowing participants to apply what they've learned. This hands-on experience builds confidence by familiarizing individuals with the techniques and tools they may need to use in real-life situations.
Quick and Effective Response
Confidence in crisis situations often translates to a quicker and more effective response. Trained individuals are less likely to hesitate when someone requires help. They know how to assess the situation, call for assistance, and provide immediate care, ultimately improving the chances of a positive outcome.
Reducing Panic and Anxiety
In an emergency, panic and anxiety can exacerbate the situation. A first aid course helps individuals remain calm and composed, even in high-pressure scenarios. This emotional resilience is a valuable aspect of confidence and can make a significant difference in how effectively they respond to an emergency.
Applying Skills in Everyday Life
First aid skills aren't limited to major accidents; they can be applied in everyday life. Knowing how to handle minor injuries, choking incidents, or someone in distress at home or in public spaces can boost confidence in one's ability to assist others in various situations.
Empowering Communities
When individuals in a community are trained in first aid, it creates a network of support. Knowing that there are trained individuals nearby can empower others to take action and seek help when needed. This collective confidence can lead to faster and more effective responses to emergencies within a community.
Prevention and Awareness
Part of first aid training is understanding how to prevent accidents and injuries. By recognizing potential hazards and taking proactive measures, individuals can reduce the likelihood of emergencies occurring in the first place. This prevention aspect of first aid training also contributes to overall confidence in maintaining a safe environment.
Conclusion
Confidence in crisis situations is not innate; it's a skill that can be cultivated through proper training and practice. A first aid course is a powerful tool for building this confidence. It equips individuals with the knowledge, skills, and emotional resilience needed to navigate emergencies effectively.
Ultimately, confidence in crisis can make a significant difference in outcomes. It means being a proactive first responder instead of a passive bystander. It means having the ability and self-assurance to step in when someone's life depends on it. By taking a first aid course, individuals not only enhance their own confidence but also contribute to a safer and more resilient society where everyone is empowered to make a difference when it matters most.

The last thing on Steve's mind was Eddie Munson. Even when he was all Dustin could talk about. He barely spared the guy a thought when they were in school together to begin with. Eddie occupied precisely zero percent of his brain space.
So it was kind of jarring to have him suddenly take up all the space he had. Steve had come to the school to pick up Dustin, Mike, and Lucas only to see them crowding around Eddie, who was holding one of the nurse's trusty ice packs to his face.
Steve usually just honked his horn to get them to run up and get in, but there was no separating them right now. And the moment Steve walked over, there was a cacophony of voices, shouting over each other. He had to shout even louder to get them to stop and Eddie's wince didn't go unnoticed.
Once it was quiet, Steve only asked. "Who?"
"Jason and his cronies", Mike spat out.
"All of you, car. Now."
"But-!"
"Now!", Steve ordered. The three of them shifted and Steve realized he needed to be specific because obviously they weren't going to leave Eddie behind. And leaving him wasn't a part of Steve's plan either.
"All of you. Munson, you get to ride shotgun."
He didn't wait long enough to see Eddie's expression before turning to get in his car. There was a mad scramble and once again they continued to shout at each other, trying to tell the story. Steve didn't even bother trying to quiet them then, settling for having to piece together the story.
He knew Lucas had tried out for basketball. Between Steve and Mr. Sinclair, he'd gone from hopeless to hopeful. Steve even warned Lucas that sometimes the team did a little hazing for the new recruits. Apparently the hazing went too far in Lucas' case and Eddie stepped in.
Steve never would have expected Eddie to care. To actually step between Lucas and danger when he'd gone out for sports instead of his weird nerd club. Steve found it easy to relate. When they got to his house, he didn't mean to, but basically manhandled Eddie to the bathroom where the first aid kit was.
"Umm-"
"Don't talk", Steve said. Both because he needed to work on his face and also because he wasn't sure what Eddie would say. This was weird, of course it was. But it was the right thing to do. Steve wondered when the right thing would start to feel less weird. After patching Eddie up, he sent him to the living room. Dustin had already turned the tv to something, taking advantage of the Harrington's sound system. And Mike and Lucas were already raiding the fridge.
"Don't get too comfortable", Steve said, hands on his hips. He sighed before heading up to his room. The nail bat was still in his trunk, but he wouldn't need a weapon that rough. When he came back downstairs, bat hanging over his shoulder, Eddie's non-swollen eye got wide.
"Where are you going with that?"
"Taking care of some business", Steve said. "If I'm not back in an hour, order some pizza. Eddie and only Eddie is allowed to drink the beers in the fridge."
There was a trio of groans, but Eddie was still to gobsmacked to speak.
"What the hell is he about to do?", he finally found the words once Steve was out the door.
"Probably gonna bust some kneecaps on Lucas' behalf", Mike said before crunching on a handful of potato chips.
Eddie looked to Dustin for confirmation. There was no way, right? But Dustin only grinned.
"I told you. Bad. Ass."
Eddie still didn't believe it even when Steve returned, a bit sweaty and hair slightly mussed, the beginning of a bruise on his cheek but otherwise unscathed.
He had to believe it when he found out Jason and a few other players suddenly had broken hands or legs.

IT STARTED WITH THE CAT DISTRIBUTION SYSTEM
Previous Part 9. (Current)
Note: I struggle writing this part since i never had any pet in my life so I just asked around what do vets do during visits and did some research here and there and ultimately just write i think what would happen 🤷‍♀️ Also, the some scenes are inspired by those vet meme hehehe it’s funnier in my head trust🤓
Cat distribution system featuring Phainon.
In which• The Deliverer of Amphoreus is suddenly transported to your home as a cat
Holding each pet carrier on your arms, you walked inside the clinic. You roamed your eyes around and noticed that there wasn’t that many people waiting at the lobby.
How fortunate, you cheered inwardly.
You remembered setting this appointment around 4:30pm in hopes that there aren’t many people in the clinic around this time. You just didn’t want to wait on a long queue.
You walked towards the desk and saw the familiar staff who you asked to set the schedule for today.
“Hello,” you greeted her, smiling. “I’m here for the appointment I scheduled yesterday.”
“Hi.” she greeted back. “Of course! Can I get the name who made the appointment?”
You said your name and gestured to the bags you’re holding. “I scheduled a checkup for both of them. Princess,” you gestured towards the pink bag, “ and Blue.” You introduced.
“This will be their first checkup so I am quite excited.”
“Hello there cuties, nice to meet you both.” She greeted and took a peek at the bag. “A Pomeranian and a Ragdoll, what a pretty little fluffballs.”
She then clicked few keys on the keyboard before taking few papers out. “Since you had said that this is their first checkup, we’ll do some bloodwork together.”
“What about vaccines? Do they get to have them?” You asked.
“Well, that depends on their age. Can you tell me how old are they?”
“About that– I just recently had them. A family friend can’t take care of them anymore so I volunteered to take them in and didn’t bother to ask more questions.”
Yeah, that’s the brightest lie you can think of. You just can’t tell them you found Blue on a box and Princess was just a stray who followed Blue back home during his escapade either, that’s hella suspicious.
“Oh, that’s ok. We’ll just bring that up to the doctor.” She took a pen out. “I just need to ask you some questions about Princess and Blue before we can bring them in for checkup.”
As you answered her questions, Phainon and Mydei began to piece the bits of information on the situation they found themselves in.
Vet appointment is basically a checkup you planned for them. Albeit they felt happy for your concern, there’s just this nagging feeling that makes their fur stand.
Was it the atmosphere of this place? Phainon wandered his eyes to see as much as he could. No that’s not it– this place feels oddly cozy.
The people perhaps? Mydei remembered how welcoming the person behind the desk. Also not it.
There’s just something wrong with the situation. Something they haven’t foreseen perhaps?
But come to think of it, this world doesn’t possess powers like those back in Amphoreus. Phainon remembered Hyacine, a well-known healer from the Twilight Courtyard. She possessed an ability that aids her in nursing people back to health which is clearly something this world lacks.
Then, how on Amphoreus Nikador’s left but cheek would they perform this check up?
Deep in thought, they didn’t noticed that you had already stopped talking nor they did felt the bag was being lifted, transporting them to the room where the vet and other staffs are waiting.
You were greeted by the smell of disinfectants as you entered the room.
Inside, there are staffs that are currently attending to other animals. Two of which are besides the vet who you’ve already met.
You saw them took the bags from Ms. Andie–the desk receptionist from earlier– towards the clean silver table in the middle.
“So for today, what we’ll be doing is a checkup for these two–Princess Ginger and Mr. Blue Balls?” The vet asked as he slowly opened both bags.
You made a sound of agreement and leaned closer to the table. You saw how Blue widened his eyes and hissed when he felt himself being lifted by one of the staff while Princess kept wiggling like a worm on the hands of the other.
You laughed at them. “This is their first vet visit Doc, so they might feel anxious.”
Anxious is one word to put it.
Mydei never felt this kind of want to bite some hands off until now. So stop grabbing him before he do!
Phainon and Mydei had themselves lowered to the table, hands still firm around their bodies as it held them down, although also trying to ease them at the same time.
Everything started to feel scary now. Why does it feel like they are some fish on a chopping board? That eerie light from the ceiling didn’t even comfort them a bit.
The vet smiled. “It’s alright. It’s actually quite a common occurrence– be it first or returning patients for annual visits.”
Phainon and Mydei felt their bodies being positioned. One of their front legs was held out.
They saw the vet took something. It was a sharp, silver needle. “So let’s start with blood labs before taking the vitals and other assessments. We’ll do the vaccination last.”
They could only watch themselves helplessly getting pinned, agony painted their eyes.
No matter how Phainon tried to wiggle and meowed sharply, he just can’t. He felt a sharp poke on his leg, and saw how his blood was drawn.
It doesn’t hurt as much he thought it was but it was uncomfortable. He looked at Mydei to see how he was faring. And, well-he did try to show them the might of a Kremnoan.
The effort was deeply appreciated my friend, Mydeimos.
You’d lie if you say you didn’t feel bad. And you’d also lie if you say you didn’t find it funny too. At best, you can try to calm them down and ease them a little.
“It’s ok Blue, Princess. You guys are strong and it’ll be over soon.” They whimpered. Welp, you tried.
Next was the vitals and assessment, as what Mydei heard the vet said earlier. This shouldn’t be that alarming right? It doesn’t sound ominous like blood lab is. Just probably checking if he’s healthy whatnot?
Look at him human. Do your worst and let’s get over it!
He saw the vet took some kind of item–a bit shorter than that before, pointed but not sharp.
…what’s that? Where’s that supposed to go-
Mydei watched in horror as the assistant who held the Deliverer lifted his tail to give the vet an easier access to insert the item in one swift motion to his ass.
Phainon immediately wailed– loud. Ear piercing meow and even trembled, paws extended outwards.
Something cold was just inserted in his– down their! Take it outtttt!!! HELPP!
From then on, everything felt blur for Phainon. Like a fallen warrior who lost to life, he let them prod him. No he’s just being dramatic but that’s justified– oh no the horrors.
Fortunately there was nothing worse than that rectal temperature, others was just a breeze from then on. He just laid there, defeated and still when he felt his nape being pinched before feeling another sharp sting similar to that blood taking apparatus.
For Mydei? Well, we can’t underestimate this man. The moment he saw what happened to his rival–now defeated, he wiggled from that grasp of those who held him. With a rabid look, he bit. Well– tried to.
Respect to the effort the Prince had given. In the end, both warriors had laid flat in the table defeated.
You saw everything and managed to record everything too. A win for you. It was way funnier in person seeing them panicked and all.
“Ok! That wraps everything.” The vet said, finishing the last vaccine shot on Princess. “You quite have an interesting pets here. I don’t see those reactions often.”
“Hehe yes they are.” You replied. “So when do we need to schedule the next visit Doc?”
…Next visit? Their ears twitch. There’s still next time?!
“We’ll do few more before just annually.” He replied. “Just to finish the vaccine doses.”
“Ah- that’s alright.” Another expenses but you can handle that. You hoped. Never thought pets can be this expensive.
“I would also like to ask if you have any plans to get them neutered?” The vet asked. “According to their assessments earlier, they turned out to be an adult Ragdoll and Pomeranian.”
“Neutered as in getting their balls cutoff right?”
Mydei barked alarmed, so did Phainon. What do you mean by that neutered? Do you plan to castrate them?!
Phainon felt something shifted inside– wanting to come out, wanting to defend. Crawling from his chest, wanted to be released from the shackles that repressed it’s primal–
“I don’t think they like that suggestion Doc.” You continued, and unknowingly prevented a catastrophe.
After some formalities, you saw them–the assistants– returned holding the bags you used to carry Princess and Blue.
Giving Princess a last pet, the one who held him laughed, “You’re quite a tough Princess, aren’t you?” Before gently placing him inside despite the growls Princess gave.
Phainon didn’t let anyone touching him anymore and simply zoomed right inside the bag.
They are not staying at this place any longer and neither are they coming back. Again.
“Snowy? Thank the Titans you’re ok!” Voices chorused inside the bag. Phainon was just too shocked to react.

But the other images I had was like a mass refugee camp. So basically at that point in time, two months ago, about 20,000 people had sought refuge both in the hospital and outside the hospital. And these weren’t tents. They’re still not tents. They’re makeshift shelters with bed sheets or plastic bag sheets. The ones outside sleep on the floor. They’re lucky [if] they get a carpet or a mat. There was one bathroom at the time for about 200 people that they have to share. And inside, the hallways of the hospital were also made into shelters. There was hardly any room to walk, and there’s children running around everywhere. It’s important to remember all these people were not homeless. They all had homes that were destroyed. They’re all displaced people that took shelter in the hospital.
So that’s the kind of mass chaos that I encountered initially, and then I was told that every time there’s a bomb, give it about 15 minutes and the mass casualties come. That was the other thing that at the time shocked me: What we’d been seeing livestreamed on Instagram, on social media or whatever, I actually saw myself and it was worse than I can imagine. I saw scenes that were horrific that I’d never witnessed before and I never want to see again. You have a mother walking in holding her 8, 9-year-old, skinny — because they’re all starving — boy who’s dead, he’s cold and dead and [the mother is] screaming, asking for someone to check his pulse and everybody’s busy in the mass chaos. So that was kind of my initial welcoming scene when I entered Khan Younis the first time.
{...}
What I saw — I’m an eye surgeon, an eye plastic surgeon, and so I saw the classic, what I penned “the Gaza shrapnel face,” because in an explosive scenario, you don’t know what’s coming. When there’s an explosion, you don’t go like this [cover your face], you kind of actually, in fact, open your eyes. And so shrapnel’s everywhere. It’s a well-known fact that the Israeli forces are experimenting [with] weapons in Gaza to boost their weapon manufacturing industry. Because if a weapon is battle-tested, it’s more valuable, isn’t it? It’s got a higher value. So basically they’re using these weapons, these missiles that purposely, intently create these large shrapnel fragments that go everywhere. And they cause amputations that are unusual.
Most amputations occur at the weak points, the elbow or the knee, and so they’re better tolerated. But these [shrapnel fragments] are causing mid-thigh, mid-arm amputations that are more difficult, more challenging, and also the rehabilitation afterward is also more challenging. Also these shrapnels [are] unlike a bullet wound. A bullet wound goes in and out; there’s an entry and exit point. Shrapnel stays there. So you gotta take it out. So the injuries I saw were — I mean, I saw people with their eyes blown apart. And when I was there, and this is my experience, I treated all children when I was there the first time. It was kids that [were aged] 2, 6, 9, 10, 13, 15, and 16, and 17 were the ones that I treated. And their eyes unfortunately had to be removed. They had shrapnel in their eye sockets that I had to remove and, of course, remove the eye. There’s many patients, many children who had shrapnel in both their eyes. And you can only do so much because right now, because of the aid blockade and because of the destruction of most of Gaza, there’s no equipment available to take shrapnel that’s in the eye out. And so we just leave them alone and they eventually go blind.
{...}
I was on the ground, I toured the refugee camps, I went around Rafah, I saw, and if there’s an Israeli invasion, I can’t emphasize enough how catastrophic it’s going to be. It’ll be mass killing, mass destruction, because all these figures come in, 50 dead, 100 wounded. But what people don’t realize is, being wounded is a death sentence. Being wounded in this environment with no health care system, completely collapsed, is a death sentence. And the wounded often will lose everybody, like all family members, so they have no supports, especially children, have nobody left to take care of them, not even aunts and uncles. It will be catastrophic. I don’t know what to say to the world to stop an impending invasion. You’ve got to rein this prime minister of Israel in. You got to do something to stop this stupid invasion that he still wants to do, because it’ll be catastrophic.
{...}
I had one young man, about 25 years old, he lost one eye that I took out myself. He spent about five, six, or seven years, basically spent thousands and thousands of dollars in IVF treatment because he got married young and they wanted to have a child and they couldn’t have one. So he spent years on IVF treatment and finally had a baby that was 3 months old. And there was a missile attack by Israel at his home. He lost his entire family, including his baby and his wife and his parents and family. He’s by himself, single guy. I took his one eye out, and he has nobody in this world. He just kind of walks around the tent structures, just kind of walking around with no home and trying to sleep wherever he can.

In case of emergency | Ona Batlle x Paramedic!Reader
5k celebration prompt: "That's a lot of blood."
Woso masterlist | Words: 1.6k
-----
Today you would be giving a first aid training session at the Joan Gamper training ground, the staff of FC Barcelona had requested a course on the basics for some of their new employees. For the club it was very important that everyone knew the basics, even while they have trained medical professionals on their team.
As your partner started on setting up the CRP dummies that had been delivered earlier by some of your coworkers, you let the station know you’d be on location giving a training session. While this was a planned session, it was during work hours, so the possibility of being called to an emergency was always possible. You didn’t expect it for today since the schedule today was jam packed with personnel, but still you clipped your radio to your belt as you stepped out of the ambulance.
“All set up, Pedro?” You asked your partner as you watched him check something off on the clipboard. “Yeah, all ready to go.” He gave you the clipboard for a quick double check. “Looks good, let’s open the doors and get started.” You said after looking at the list. The two of you had given many training sessions, so the division of tasks came naturally for you by now.
A group of ten people was waiting out in the hall as you opened the door, “Come on in.” You told them with a smile. They walked in and took their seats. Pedro started on some basics, he taught the theory, while you focused on the practical teaching.
You listened to him teach from the sidelines, as you heard the door next to you open quietly. When you looked over your shoulder you saw someone who didn’t look like the rest of the people in the training. They were all office personnel, but she looked to be one of Barcelona’s players. Wearing a sleeveless training top, training shorts, and by the looks of it some quickly thrown on trainers.
“Sorry I’m late.” She whispered. “Training ran a little long.” Confirming that she was one of the players. “It’s okay, happy you still wanted to join. Take a seat.” You said with a smile. Usually the players didn’t attend the first aid training sessions, so you were intrigued to see her wanting to be part of today’s session. You let your eyes linger on her a little longer as she quietly took a seat in the back row. Instantly listening to Pedro, while quickly tying her shoe laces.
“Now that you know those basics, I think it’s time we put your knowledge to practice. For that, my coworker will take over.” You stepped up, and asked them to follow you to the dummies.
“If you could all sit down at a dummy in pairs, I will show you here up front how CPR works.” The group filled out over the floor, you watched as they each sat down next to a dummy with the person standing next to them. The football player looked around, realising everyone was partnered up. “Over here, you can be my partner.” You said with a smile, gesturing for her to come to the front with you.
You quickly unclip your radio from your jacket and reclip it to your shirt, as you take off your jacket and lay it down in the corner. Once you’ve laid it down, you turn back to the class and kneel down next to your dummy.
As you sit down besides the footballer, you send her a soft smile. “Thank you for joining, it doesn't happen often that players come to a session.” The footballer nodded her head with a smile, “Yeah, you never know when you might need it.”
“Smart thinking. You would be surprised how many people wait to learn until it’s too late.” Her joining voluntarily instead of having been signed up by the club impressed you. The more people knew CPR the better people could be taken care of. “Would you mind helping me show the class?” She agreed instantly and you turned to the rest of the group.
“Alright, let’s get into the basics of CPR. It is the best tool to use when someone is not breathing and has no pulse. This is how you can keep someone alive long enough until help arrives.” The group listens to you intensely, nodding along as you show them how you can check for a pulse, and some tricks to check if someone is breathing. Then you show them the proper way to intertwine your fingers and the position you should be in to give CPR.
“In this position you will start giving compressions. Your elbows should be locked, that way you’re using your upper body and not your arms.” You watch as they all copy the position. “Yes, exactly like that.” You say as you look around the group. “Now, Pedro will sing us a song. It’s called Staying Alive" by the Bee Gees, the song ironically has the exact right amount of beats per minute to follow the rhythm to do CPR to.”
The group chuckled at Pedro singing, and you smiled at his commitment to the bit. “Alright everyone, I will show you how to do it properly, and then you can follow my lead.” You started doing compressions to the beat that Pedro was singing, before telling Ona to take over and try.
“Like this?” She says as she positions herself above the dummy. “Yeah, perfect. Now just use your upper body to push hard on the dummy's chest.” You watched her do five perfect compressions in a row. “You’re a natural, keep it up.” She smiled at you as you got up to walk around the group. You stopped by everyone to give bits of advice and tips.
“Alright, next up I want to show you all how you can switch with a partner.” You looked at her realising you never asked for her name, so you quickly asked her. “To show you how this is done, Ona will start doing compression and I will take over.”
“Sometimes when compressions need to be done for an extensive amount of time, it is best to switch, since CPR is heavy work. So, Ona, could you start the compressions again? Pedro will continue humming the song, and I will count the compressions. Once you’re at thirty, I will take over.”
She nodded and started the compressions back up, softly humming the song along with Pedro. You smiled at the way she was picking it up so quickly. Under your breath you counted, “-twenty eight, twenty nine,” you positioned yourself on the opposite side of the dummy. “Switch compressions.” You said and continued where Ona left off. As you counted to thirty again, you saw Ona getting ready to take over again. You watched with pride as she copied what you did before, “-twenty eight, twenty nine, switch compressions.”
You let Ona take over again as you addressed the group on the rotation of compressions and how it would benefit both the patient and yourself. As you were about to tell Ona that she could stop your radio beeped.
"Ambulance 4866, Ambulance 4866, respond priority one to Avenida de Cornellà. Multi vehicle collision. fire department requesting an extra ambulance.” The dispatcher called out. "Control, this is Ambulance 4866. Responding priority one to Avenida de Cornellà.”
Pedro was already telling the group that you needed to respond to the emergency and that you’d be in contact for the continuation of the training another day. “Sorry, we have to leave.” You yell as you run outside to where you had parked the ambulance.
The call was a tough one. An arterial bleed in the field was never easy. Your hands, arms, and shirt were covered in blood, but you hadn’t taken a second to look at that. You got the patient to the hospital alive, that’s all that mattered.
Pedro drove the ambulance back to the station, what you didn’t expect to see once you got out of the ambulance, was to see a familiar face from the CPR training earlier. “Ona?” You call out to the brunette standing to the side with one of your coworkers.
The footballer turned around with a smile but her smile faltered when she saw you. “That's a lot of blood.” She said with eyes widened. “Don’t worry, it’s not mine. And the patients whose blood it is, made it.” She sighed in relief for both statements. “That’s good to hear.”
“Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see you again, but what are you doing here?” She opened her bag and pulled out your work jacket. “You left your jacket, I thought you might need it.” You smiled at her kindness and thoughtfulness. “You’re a lifesaver, thank you.” She chuckles, “I think that quite literally is you and not me.”
“Let me know if this is overstepping, but could I get you a coffee or dinner as a thank you?” You asked her nervously. “I don’t need a thank you.” She said, and you let your head fall slightly, thinking you did overstep. “But I would love to have dinner with you.” You lift your head back up and smile.
“I’m done with my shift if you want to go now?” You look down at your clothes again, “Well, after a quick shower of course.” Ona looked down at her own clothes, still her Barcelona training gear. “How about I pick you up in an hour? Then we can both take a shower and get changed.” You smiled, “Yeah, that sounds like a good plan.”
You exchanged numbers and texted her your address. Who would’ve thought that a CPR training interrupted by a call would have turned into a date? Definitely not you when you stepped out of bed this morning, but you were excited to meet up with her.

CPR Blog Humor
💥 “Stayin’ Alive” Isn’t Just a Song — It’s a CPR Anthem 💃🫀
Let’s be real — no one wakes up in the morning thinking, “Today’s the day I’ll become a life-saving legend.” But here you are, reading a blog about CPR training, and that’s basically the same thing. 🎯
So, let’s talk CPR — also known as “Calmly Perform Resuscitation… and totally freak out on the inside.” Don’t worry, we’ll fix that last part.
Why Take a CPR Class?
Well, unless you plan on yelling “Somebody do something!” while everyone else stares at each other, learning CPR is kind of a big deal. You could save:
A stranger at the gym 🏋️
Your Aunt Linda at Thanksgiving (after she deep-dives into that stuffing) 🍗
Or even yourself, through the power of preparation and main character energy 💪
But Isn’t CPR Complicated?
Not really. It’s 30 compressions, 2 breaths, and 1 incredibly awkward moment if you mess up the tempo.
Pro tip: If you're doing compressions to the beat of Stayin’ Alive by the Bee Gees, you're doing it right. 🎶 (Yes, it’s literally the song they teach in class. No, you don't have to wear bell bottoms.)
What You’ll Learn
At MyCPRclass, we teach you how to:
✅ Perform CPR on adults, children, and infants ✅ Use an AED without mistaking it for a defibrillator from a sci-fi movie ✅ Stay calm in high-pressure moments (or at least fake it like a pro) ✅ Look like an absolute hero while saving lives — cape not included
We’re Open 24/7 — Because Emergencies Don’t Take Naps 😴
Middle of the night? Early morning? Lunch break? We got you. Because nothing says “I’m responsible” like scheduling CPR training at 3AM after binge-watching medical dramas.
Final Thought:
CPR isn’t just for doctors and lifeguards. It’s for anyone with a heartbeat and a desire to keep other heartbeats beating. ❤️
So sign up today — because knowing what to do before 911 shows up makes you the real MVP.
Book your CPR class today with MyCPRclass — where saving lives is serious business… but we still have fun doing it. 😄
