"Quiet." He demanded "The other boys hear you they'll come looking and if they see you like this then they'll want a piece too. Hello and welcome to part 2 of: It's 2022 and this girl is watching the bbc Merlin show for the first time!

The section in which I sell my soul to yet another terrible show that ended years ago and share my comments and thoughts with you so that you can see my falling and have a laugh. (And sharing your best fics.)

• Second season is in. I'm not too happy about the new let's treat Merlin badly as if we hadn't fallen in love a whole season back.

• Does Merlin realise that an entire village of druids was slaughtered because of him or is he just going to shrug it off?

• A couple of episodes ago Morgana and Gwen were fighting off Odin's men and now they can't pick up a sword for their lifes what is going on here

•"She is more than just my maid" scene 🏳️‍🌈 season two is currently a downfall for merthur and Morgwen taking their place

• The scene where Arthur asks Merlin advice on dating girls... That bit was gayest thing I've seen. If I were to watch that without context, I would absolutely read it as 2 gays in the closet. It even removed the bisexuality of them.

• The change in Merlin's eyes from "Maybe my father was wrong about magic-You really believe that?" to "All sorcerers are evil thank you for remining me" breakes my heart into little pieces.

• Freya 😶 why didn't she fly away earlier tho? AnD ARTHUR COMFORTING MERLIN IN THE END THAT WAS SO CUTE.

• Several times already Arthur has gotten Merlin out of trouble without even knowing what he was being acused for, and not caring even he were to be guilty. He just wants him save and well 🥺

• Honestly my girls were onto something. They were about to take the kingdom with 0 death counts-except maybe some knights- (bc the ppl were just asleep) and free the kingdom from the magic prosecution. Why are they being antagonized like this.

• No but all of this is actually sad bc Morgana actually has no idea what is happening she just has a vague guess

• Morgwen divorce. The worst plot of the show. Unfair. Homophobic.

ABOUT JESSICA’S UNCERTAIN FUTURE IN THE MERCHANT OF VENICE

So, i hear some people say that in Shakespeare’s The Merchant of Venice, prejudice against jews is only in the religious sense, and not in the ethnycal sense.

After re-reading the play and watching the BBC 1981 production of the full text, i saw myself disagreeing with this interpretation. And it is all due to this exchange of dialogue between Jessica, Shylock’s daughter and a jewess converted to Christianity by marriage, and the servant character of Launcelot Gobbo, in Act III, Scene V:

Launcelot Gobbo - Yes, truly; for, look you, the sins of the father are to be laid upon the children: therefore, I promise ye, I fear you. I was always plain with you, and so now I speak my agitation of the matter: therefore be of good cheer, for truly I think you are damned. There is but one hope in it that can do you any good; and that is but a kind of bastard hope neither.

Jessica - And what hope is that, I pray thee?

Launcelot Gobbo - Marry, you may partly hope that your father got you not, that you are not the Jew's daughter.

Jessica - That were a kind of bastard hope, indeed: so the sins of my mother should be visited upon me.

Launcelot Gobbo - Truly then I fear you are damned both by father and mother: thus when I shun Scylla, your father, I fall into Charybdis, your mother: well, you are gone both ways.

Jessica - I shall be saved by my husband; he hath made me a Christian.

Launcelot Gobbo - Truly, the more to blame he: we were Christians enow before; e'en as many as could well live, one by another. This making Christians will raise the price of hogs: if we grow all to be pork-eaters, we shall not shortly have a rasher on the coals for money.

In the historical context of the Renaissance, a lot of jewish people converted to Christianity as a way to avoid persecution and receive some acceptance and prestige from society. They were known as ‘The New Christians’. But the Inquisition, that was installed on countries like Italy, Portugal and Spain, would still always verify their genealogical trees, and send spies to search for small sign that would justify a ‘return to the old ways’ acusation, trial and execution, and other civilian, considered ‘Old Christian’ families, would give the side eyes at those converted jews, and spread words in favour of their elimination.

And in this exchange on the play, the character of Launcelot Gobbo, who is supposed to be a friend and ally to Jessica (if as a friend ha talks things like that, imagine if he was an enemy, i don’t understand why Jessica and Lorenzo keep him around) clearly personifies that side eye menthality: “We don’t care if you are baptized and always take the comunion with us. You are not one of us. You’re father is a jew, and as such you will never be christian enough, and your soul will go to hell”.

As such, Jessica is one of the Shakespeare characters whose ending i have more doubts to be truly happy. Sure, she has the joy of Lorenzo’s intense love for her, but as a woman of jewish origin in a very anti-semitic society like Renaissance Venice, even if converted to the majoritary, accepted as right religion, she still will be marginalized, and her future children may suffrer persecution and extermination, even if those children don’t have any idea of their jewish heritage.

As Redes Sociais como palanque eleitoral

Com o avanço das Fake News, às eleições se tornam um assunto de discussão de como a tecnologia pode ajudar e também quais seriam suas consequências.

No ano de 2020, o uso das redes sociais para impulsionar campanhas eleitorais foram cada vez mais utilizadas, com a redução do horário político na TV aberta, muitos partidos ficaram de fora, e usam da internet como uma forma de divulgar suas propostas e atrair eleitores.

Um dos exemplos de quem soube explorar as redes sociais para atrair eleitores foi o candidato a prefeitura de São Paulo pelo PSOL, Guilherme Boulos. Com baixa verba para campanha eleitoral e apenas 17 segundos no horário eleitoral obrigatório de TV e rádio, Boulos abusou das redes sociais para se popularizar e arrecadar mais votos.

Boulos explorou em todas as redes uma campanha que tinha como objetivo fazer as pessoas conhecerem verdadeiramente o candidato, com uma linguagem despojada e com humor, propícia para os meios digitais.

#CaféComBoulos, memes, lives e entrevistas, foi o suficiente para Boulos conseguir mobilizar a juventude que ocupa a maior faixa etária de consumidores das redes sociais. Boulos investiu no diálogo e se mostrou muito acessível aos eleitores, concedeu entrevistas para canais variados voltados para população mais jovens, como o rap, falando (96 mil inscritos) Podpah (594 mil inscritos) e o No Flow (1,79 milhões de inscritos) além de participar de uma live onde jogava Among Us com o youtuber Felipe Neto (40,7 milhões de inscritos).

Boulos foi o candidato com mais popularidade e engajamento nas redes sociais durante toda a eleição, segundo o ranking feito pela consultoria quaest a pedido do jornal Folha de São Paulo e foi o mais aceito entre os mais jovens, segundo o Datafolha (25 de novembro) Boulos tinha a maioria dos votos da população entre 16 e 44 anos.

A campanha do Boulos demonstra nova forma de fazer política, com a força dos meios digitais é cada vez mais necessário pensar em uma campanha voltada para as redes, com bastante transparência e diálogos com linguagem adequada para cada plataforma, atingindo assim, cada vez mais pessoas.

Fake News

Com a facilidade que as tecnologias trouxeram, atualmente é muito prático compartilhar informações nas redes sociais, com apenas um smartphone qualquer pessoa pode ser uma criadora de conteúdo, deixando de ser exclusivo dos veículos tradicionais de mídia. A consequência dessa liberdade é que abriu margem para a criação de notícias falsas, sem nenhuma ética e apuração profissional, mentiras são compartilhadas de má fé com intuito de prejudicar algo ou alguém.

Nas últimas eleições tivemos uma enxurrada de fake News sendo disseminadas pelas redes sociais, principalmente através de grupos no WhatsApp, prejudicando as campanhas eleitorais e mexendo com a opinião pública. Com atual polarização que estamos passando no país, as notícias falsas servem como o estopim para discussões e ataques pessoais para enfraquecer candidaturas populares.

O Jornalismo tradicional já vem a alguns anos criando plataformas para desmentir e tentar frear as notícias falsas que são espalhadas na internet, como a Agência Lupa, Aos Fatos, Fato ou Fake do portal G1, Uol Confere entre outras. Elas têm como objetivo apurar as informações e repassar a informação correta à população.

Neste ano, o Tribunal Superior Eleitoral (TSE) na tentativa de acabar com o grande número de notícias falsas nas eleições municipais, criou uma parceria com nove agências jornalísticas de checagem, todas as respostas foram postadas na página “Fato ou boato” no site da justiça eleitoral. Para o cientista político e professor da Faculdade de Comunicação Social da Uerj Fábio Vasconcellos, o sistema do TSE ainda é novo, mas importante: “Não sei dizer se é ou não eficiente. Mas é importante que a Justiça Eleitoral esteja mais atenta ao fenômeno.”

O Twitter vem sendo bastante usado nos últimos anos para discutir política, um canal aberto entre os candidatos (e já eleitos) com a população. O ex-presidente Trump e o presidente Bolsonaro como exemplo, usam seu perfil como plataforma oficial de pronunciamento.

Esse ambiente da rede vem sendo contaminado com mais uma forma de disseminar notícias falsas, usando a tecnologia da inteligência artificial, são criados bots (robôs que administram contas falsas) para postar mensagens pré-definidas de forma excessiva a favor ou contra determinado político. Eles respondem e começam discussões que envolvam palavras na qual ele foi programado. Fazem isso repetidas vezes, conseguindo que determinados assuntos cheguem nos assuntos mais comentados da rede, parando assim, em outras plataformas.

Para tentar diminuir os tweets de conteúdo falso na rede a plataforma fez algumas mudanças recentemente, como criar um aviso quando algum perfil com grande número de seguidores poste algo que seja entendido pelas diretrizes da rede como falso e um lembrete de na hora que o usuário for compartilhar uma reportagem, aparece um questionamento para não repassar apenas a notícia depois de ter lido só a manchete.

A tecnologia no pleito americano

Embora os Estados Unidos tenha um sistema eleitoral completamente diferente do Brasil, os meios tecnológicos e principalmente as redes sociais são fortes na disputa, a Politics 2.0 é um termo utilizado para campanhas que são feitas em sites e redes sociais. Uma das campanhas mais conhecidas a usar as Politics, foi o então candidato à presidência dos Estados Unidos Barack Obama,que em 2008 usou a internet para divulgar sua campanha. Obama usou principalmente o Twitter e o Facebook para engajar seus eleitores a votar, o vídeo Yes, We Can, em que transformou um dos discursos de Obama em música e foi interpretada por vários artistas que apoiavam o candidato.

Em 2016, o Governo Americano e o Google desenvolveram um mecanismo de pesquisa que facilita o voto dos americanos. O serviço disponibiliza a legislação eleitoral de cada estado, as regras específicas e orientações. O Google informou que é um serviço público e apartidário.

Já em 2020, a disputa para a Casa Branca entre Joe Biden e Donald Trump, foi datada por acusações do candidato Republicano, algumas postagens do atual presidente foram sinalizadas pelo Twitter por ‘conteúdo fraudulento’. Trump também acusou o Facebook e o Twitter de bloquear o compartilhamento de uma notícia do The York Post que criticava Joe Biden. Embora as redes sociais tenham consertado o erro, para os apoiadores de Donald Trump, esse bloqueio foi uma evidência que as redes sociais não são totalmente imparciais.

Durante a apuração, Trump acusa várias vezes o sistema eleitoral americano de fraude, pedindo a paralisação da contagem e até mesmo se declarando vitorioso na disputa mesmo estando numericamente atrás de Joe Biden.

Essa contestação do atual presidente fez aumentar a incidência de Fake News, algumas sendo divulgadas por Trump e sua equipe de campanha, que questionaram a integridade da votação sem levantar provas concretas. Os apoiadores do candidato republicano alegam que houveram votos de pessoas mortos sendo contabilizados e uma falha no software do computador que computava os votos, eles dizem que os votos que eram para ir pra Trump foram para Joe Biden, os supostos casos aconteceram no estado do Michigan, que é considerado um estado decisivo nas disputas presidenciais. A BBC fez a checagem de ambas as informações que foram consideradas falsas.

O Brasil também esteve presente na disseminação de Fake News sobre as eleições americanas, a plataforma Bot Sentinel, que monitora atividades de robôs no twitter, alertou que mais de 10 mil contas brasileiras estavam disseminando notícias falsas sobre as eleições americanas, em entrevista ao portal G1, o criador da plataforma, Christopher Bouzy, classificou a atividade como ‘bizarra’: "O curioso e bizarro é que não estão tentando esconder seu país de origem. A maioria dos atores estrangeiros que estão disseminando desinformação tenta se disfarçar como alguém dos Estados Unidos. Mas esses [brasileiros] estão fazendo isso à vista de todos".

O presidente Jair Bolsonaro que é aliado de Trump, afirma que houve fraude nas eleições americanas, ele afirma que há ‘fontes’ que comprovam que a eleição nos Estados Unidos foi roubada, apesar de nunca ter apresentado nenhuma evidência de fraude. A maioria dos estados americanos já certificou a vitória de Joe Biden, Trump já recorreu à Suprema Corte a reversão dos resultados, mas perdeu em estados como Arizona, Geórgia, Michigan e Nevada.

Para o professor Fábio Vasconcellos, quando o candidato é derrotado, ele acaba criando especulações e acaba alegando fraude: “Todo derrotado precisa encontrar respostas para a derrota. Sem provas, ficam apenas especulações dos derrotados. Talvez isso ocorra porque a derrota tenha ocorrido por algo mais simples: os eleitores votaram para mudar.”

A guerra comercial China-EUA está longe do fim: qual o impacto para o Brasil?

 Apesar do apelo da maioria dos líderes reunidos na cúpula do G20 na Argentina, segue baixa a expectativa de que Estados Unidos e China possam chegar a um acordo para encerrar a guerra comercial entre as duas maiores economias do mundo. O temor é que a continuidade do aumento das medidas protecionistas possa provocar uma nova desaceleração mundial, da qual o Brasil não sairia ileso.

Os dois presidentes - Donald Trump (EUA) e Xi Jimping (China) - terão um jantar de trabalho neste sábado, após o encerramento da cúpula. É o primeiro encontro desde que o governo americano elevou tarifas sobre mais de US$ 200 bilhões em importações chinesas em julho. Por enquanto, a promessa de Trump é que aumentará ainda mais as barreiras comerciais contra o rival asiático a partir de janeiro. A China, por sua vez, respondeu também com mais taxação contra produtos vindos dos EUA, que somam mais de US$ 100 bilhões.

Como fica o Brasil no meio dessa briga de gigantes? As estatísticas de comércio exterior brasileiro indicam que o país se beneficiou inicialmente, com a China aumentando a compra de commodities brasileiras, em especial soja e barris de petróleo. Mas analistas da área ouvidos pela reportagem acreditam que a continuidade do conflito trará impactos negativos para a economia global, afetando também o Brasil.

Segundo o ministro da Fazenda, Eduardo Guardia, cálculos feitos por sua equipe técnica indicam que, fora impactos de curto prazo, os ganhos mais prolongados para o comércio brasileiros no mercado chinês por causa das tarifas sobre concorrentes americanos seria da ordem de US$ 2 bilhões, um valor que não considera "relevante" dentro do total das exportações brasileiras (US$ 169 bilhões no acumulado do ano até outubro).

"Independente de qualquer ganho de curto prazo, o movimento (de guerra comercial) é negativo, tira dinamismo da economia internacional, afeta crescimento, e é tudo que nós não queremos", respondeu Guardia à BBC News Brasil, no intervalo das reuniões do G20.

Já o presidente Michel Temer defendeu, em discurso durante a cúpula, a OMC (Organização Mundial do Comércio) como o melhor fórum para resolver disputas entre os países. "A alternativa traz o risco de espiral protecionista em que alguns podem até ganhar no primeiro momento, mas em que todos perdem ao final", argumentou.

 China aumenta compras do Brasil

Os números oficiais mostram que, num momento inicial, as vendas brasileiras para China foram impulsionadas pelo novo contexto tarifário, somando US$ 53 bilhões de janeiro a outubro, uma alta de 29% ante o mesmo período de 2017. O crescimento ficou bem acima da expansão total das exportações brasileiras no mesmo período (8,5%) e do aumento das vendas para os Estados Unidos (7%).

Com isso, quase 27% das vendas brasileiras neste ano foram para a China, nosso maior comprador. Já os EUA, segundo maior destino dos produtos brasileiros, ficaram com 12% das nossas exportações.

As compras chinesas dispararam justamente no segundo semestre, quando foram elevadas as barreiras comerciais entre os dois países. De julho a outubro, as exportações brasileiras para o parceiro asiático subiram 62%.

A adoção de uma taxa de 25% sobre a soja americana pelos chineses abriu espaço para o Brasil, que caminha para fechar o ano com recorde de exportação do produto. Até outubro, as vendas estavam em US$ 24 bilhões, alta de mais de 27% ante 2017.

Já a venda de óleo bruto disparou e soma US$ 11,5 bilhões - 85% acima do acumulado de janeiro a outubro de 2017. Ao invés de sobretaxar o produto, a China simplesmente cortou totalmente a compra de barris de petróleo americanos em agosto e setembro. Segundo a imprensa especializada, o país havia importado dos EUA 28 milhões de barris nos dois meses anteriores.

 Riscos

O temor de economistas ao redor do mundo é que essa disputa entre Estados Unidos e China acabe reduzindo as exportações e a produção nas duas maiores economias do mundo, causando uma desaceleração global. Os efeitos globais sobre as taxas de câmbio e preços - seja pelo encarecimento de produtos sobretaxados, como também pela desvalorização de commodities devido à expectativa de menor demanda - são imprevisíveis.

O FMI (Fundo Monetário Internacional) reviu em outubro a projeção para o crescimento do PIB mundial tanto em 2018 e em 2019 de 3,9% para 3,7%. No caso do Brasil, a previsão para expansão do PIB caiu de 1,8% para 1,4% neste ano e Segundo a coordenadora de relações internacionais da CNA (Confederação da Agricultura e Pecuária do Brasil) Camila Sande, a cotação da soja já tem recuado neste ano e teme-se que a guerra comercial derrube ainda mais o valor do produto.

"Essa queda já é um impacto (do conflito entre EUA e China). A instabilidade não é algo positivo. O melhor é que o fluxo comercial esteja harmonizado", disse Sande à BBC News Brasil.

A avaliação é a mesma de José Augusto de Castro, presidente da Associação de Comércio Exterior do Brasil (AEB). Ele manifesta preocupação, também, com o enfraquecimento da OMC (Organização Mundial do Comércio). Os Estados Unidos têm bloqueado a nomeação de novos juízes para o órgão de apelação, espécie de corte suprema dos conflitos comerciais, e ameaça deixar a organização.

"A OMC está inoperante no momento. É um problema grave, os mais fortes, China e Estados Unidos, fazem o que querem (sem a mediação da organização)", lamenta Castro.

 Alinhamento entre Bolsonaro e Trump

Em meio ao conflito com a China, o governo Trump tenta atrair aliados. Antes da abertura da cúpula do G20 na sexta-feira, o presidente americano teve um café da manhã com o presidente argentino, Mauricio Macri, que acabou gerando uma saia justa com os chineses. A porta-voz da Casa Branca, Sarah Huckabee Sanders, divulgou após o encontro que ambos os presidentes haviam reiterado "seu compromisso compartilhado de enfrentar desafios regionais, como a Venezuela e a atividade econômica predatória da China".

A diplomacia argentina correu para negar que Macri tenha usado o termo "predatório". A China também é importante parceiro comercial da Argentina, e Xi Jinping permanece no país após a cúpula para uma visita de Estado.de 2,5% para 2,4% no próximo.

Já o conselheiro de Segurança Nacional americano, John Bolton, fez uma escala no Rio de Janeiro antes de chegar a Buenos Aires para visitar na quinta-feira o presidente eleito Jair Bolsonaro no Rio de Janeiro. A relação comercial com a China foi um dos temas da conversa, que incluiu também um convite oficial para encontro com Trump nos Estados Unidos após a posse.

Bolsonaro tem feito constantes elogios aos Estados Unidos, ao mesmo tempo em que acusou a China de estar "comprando" o Brasil com seus investimentos. Essa postura tem levantado preocupação nos exportadores brasileiros, que preferem que o Brasil se mantenha neutro na briga entres os dois países.

"Os chineses não são vilões. Não precisa deixar de ser parceiro da China para ser parceiro dos Estados Unidos", afirmou à reportagem o presidente da Câmara Chinesa de Comércio do Brasil (CCB), Daniel Manucci.

"Guerra comercial não beneficia ninguém. Não é bom para o Brasil se envolver", concorda Camila Sande, da CNA.

O ex-jornalista da BBC, Martin Bashir, mentiu para conseguir a entrevista de 1995 em que a Princesa Diana revelou detalhes íntimos do seu casamento fracassado com o Príncipe Charles. As conclusões foram divulgadas nesta quinta-feira, 20, por uma investigação independente liderada pelo ex-juíz da Suprema Corte John Dyson. O inquérito confirmou que Bashir mostrou extratos bancários falsos para o irmão de Lady Di para provar que funcionários da a falar sobre sua vida  realeza eram pagos por jornais britânicos para espionar a Princesa. Isso convenceu Diana a dar a entrevista em que expressa os seus sentimentos sobre o caso que o Príncipe Charles mantinha com Camilla Parker-Bowles, admite que ela mesma estava mantendo um relacionamento extraconjugal e revela ter sofrido com bulimia e automutilação. Pouco depois da reportagem ser assistida por mais de 20 milhões de pessoas, a Rainha Elizabeth II recomendou que o casal se divorciasse.

A investigação concluiu que Martin Bashir, hoje com 58 anos, usou métodos antiéticos para obter a entrevista e violou as regras editoriais da emissora britânica BBC. Após a grande repercussão de sua reportagem com a Princesa Diana, o jornalista continuou sua carreira nos Estados Unidos e mais tarde voltou ao Reino Unido para cobrir temas de religião para a BBC. Ele deixou a emissora em 2016 por motivos de saúde. Em 2013, ele entrevistou Michael Jackson para um documentário da ITV e posteriormente foi alvo de uma queixa ao órgão regulador do setor audiovisual britânico. O astro pop acusou o jornalista de ter transmitido uma imagem distorcida do seu comportamento como pai.

I sat in bed playing my game for a while when I felt my phone go off against my covers so I grabbed it seeing I had a text

Immediately I blushed thinking she had thought of me for such a task and double excited thinking of... The costumes she could have worn and I was going to get to see them!
