Another headcanon or fic idea:

When Arthur comes back, he thinks Merlin has prophecy powers like Morgana does since Merlin just keeps predicting the future so well and he has literally no idea how magic works.

Merlin in fact cannot see the future. He's just lived through enough of history to notice the patterns that emerge and knows that history is bound to repeat itself so he's just really good at noticing when something is about to happen.

Added hilarity if Leon is also immortal and can do the same thing Merlin can.

Arthur: Is magic contagious?

Merlin: Of fucking course not.

Arthur: Then explain this *Points at Leon explaining to the group how the battle is going to play out perfectly*

Merlin: ????

Arthur: is he not... looking into the future?

Merlin: ????!!!!

Arthur: ARE YOU NOT LOOKING INTO THE FUTURE?

Merlin: no????

Arthur: You were able to predict the exact political upheaval we just fought against

Merlin: Yeah, and what about it?

AU where Arthur finds out about the prophecy and pieces together that "his closest ally Emrys" must be Merlin because who else would it be, but incorrectly assumes that Merlin doesn't know and therefore has never practiced magic before.

Even better if he finds out early season 1 so He's just so devastated the entire time and he's just like "I can't believe this, this prophecy is going to turn my best friend into a sorcerer, and it's all my fault for being the once and future king" and Merlin's in the back just murdering a sidhe

sometimes I wake up In a cold sweat thinking about the idea that kilgharrah was just using merlin to get the outcome he wanted which was to end the pendragon bloodline. That he knew how it would end and that without merlin it wouldnt all occur, so he convinces him that all his decisions will help save arthur knowing damn well where it leads them.

It would be funny if after finally becoming a dragonlord Merlin kept finding dragon eggs and just goes to Arthur and be like "Hold this for a minute, I'll be back" then runs off to do chores or fight off another sorcerer attack with Arthur just standing there with a "wtf? Why am I holding this giant egg?! Is this a dragon egg!!?"

Then Merlin returns and thanks Arthur with a quick kiss on the cheek (my boy don't realise he did it) before running off with his egg to find a safe place to store them; this goes on for a while, Arthur wants to question Merlin but if he does would Merlin stop giving him kisses on the cheek? Because he might not admit it out loud, he likes it and looks forward to it everytime Merlin unconsciously does it which is whenever he holds those giant eggs or when he does something unexpectedly nice for his manservant.
