Yoongi says people who knew him told him he'd changed a lot since they debuted. Between 2018-2019, he said he finally came to understand what position they were in (status of stardom) . He had a chance to look back and see where he could enjoy the process more and then he started making music again.

They were on somewhat of a break at the beginning of 2018 as Bang PD had suggested they take.

They had a chance to pause long enough and spend time with each other as friends and laugh a lot. Though they’d worked themselves to the brink, they were still committed to their bond with each other.

Hobi says it allowed their bond to become stronger, their mental capacity to increase, it was one of the most important moments that allowed the team to grow.

Here is where Tae says “regardless of the relationship with the agency, I signed my contract to see them smile.”

Personally, from what I’ve read him say in the book and what I hear from the members, he meant, tantamount to the success he was experiencing with his agency he also wanted to see the happiness of the other members because they had become his brothers, his family. The last thing he wanted was for any of it to end and for anyone to be unhappy.

We see scenes of them on trips.

Jimin says they had a chance to say to each other their thoughts on why they do what they do. Their conclusion was it was because of us. They never had time before to contemplate how far they’ve come or what they’ve achieved and whether any of that success was worth something to them. What WAS valuable to them was us, the fans who stood up for them in ways they never imagined a fandom would step up and do.

We see scenes of them interacting with Army at concerts.

They finally had a tangible reason they could see and feel when they began to question why they were doing what they were doing and why they were putting themselves through challenges when they didn’t have to. The faces of Army in front of them during concerts was their reason for existing.

They were all on the same page in that respect.

Again, the footage from different points in time illustrate what the members speak about. Different shots of BBMAs underscore Jimin’s thoughts about the response they get from overseas. He thinks it is fascinating, and even recently during this interview for this documentary from early 2022, he’s contemplating about why overseas fans like them so much. They were in awe, they were trying to figure it all out. He said he thought just being at the BBMAs, just being able to perform in front of all these other famous artists, would make Army proud of them. Jimin wants to be the artist that the fans are proud of.

Jimin says things changed so much (from the Wings Tour to the Love Yourself/Speak Yourself Tour), they were flying private jets, they had more security guards, the size of the venues was huge and they were treated differently.

The Love Yourself/Speak Yourself tour took them to sold out stadiums all over the world. This was their biggest tour. Hindsight now, it was their last true world tour.

Namjoon nailed it when he said it’s their sincerity that nationality, race, age, gender should not hinder anything, should not be a roadblock to happiness, success, love. Just speak yourself. They are the perfect example of all of that.

Their positive message is what resonates with fans, some who have admitted its changed their lives. It is a unifying message when there is so much divisiveness in the world.

At the end of 2018 they were spreading this message everywhere.

On Sept. 25 they addressed the UN in New York. The next day they are at a photoshoot for their first cover of TIME magazine.

At the end of October they received the Korean Popular Culture award: The Fifth Order of Cultural Merit.

They attended the AMAs and the Grammys for the first time.

Tae said though they learned how to face difficult situations, they were missing something. They had no personal lives. Touring was hard. Concerts, performing, being recognized and awarded were all thrilling and exciting. But traveling, the grueling schedules, living in hotels with nothing to do was grinding on their mental state.

And they were all feeling different ways about it. Namjoon felt like work was the only thing satisfying at that time. Yoongi says it felt like all he did was work.

Bang PD says the bigger you are the more risks you have and the more you have to lose, the more success you have, the more worries you have. The team was experiencing growing pains. It was a natural process.

The second half of the tour, the Speak Yourself half, is when they began hitting stadium after stadium. Previous venues so far on the tour were mostly arena-sized. It was in May 2019 when they performed for the first time in the Rose Bowl stadium.

This is when Namjoon says it won't be easy for another Korean artist to sell out stadiums of those sizes all over the world again.

They knew they were making history as Koreans, as Asian artists.

The aerial shots of the stadiums is amazing.

At the end of the LY/SY World Tour, October 2019, they have overcome their reticence to continue. They've renegotiated their contract. They had to have an idea of what they were going to do next. They know why they do what they do and they are grateful to be able to do it for Army.

looking back, my experience in this fandom was mostly based on shipping jikook, reading conspiracy theory blogs, and mostly watching their moments, all of that was first for me, and BTS as a whole was secondary. I could say that jikook always kept me in this fandom, and I was waiting for concerts or other content with their "moments". I think that bts' popularity is partly based on the shipping community, just the fact that I knew bts members from wattpad fanfics long long before I joined the fandom

Yeah, that's something that just happens in kpop. 70% of the kpop experience is the content that's not related to music. There are so many groups that would sell only a couple of thousands albums if they were as inactive as Jimin... but I wholeheartedly believe that they sell that much because of their "close relationship" to fans.

The more time passes, the more of these groups exist. I genuinely can't believe anyone listens to stray kidz or NCT and enjoys it😭 but that's another topic. I'm sorry if anyone reading is a fan, but I just can't. They don't really perform well on charts, but still loyal fans will buy millions of their albums just to "support" them, and collect pretty pictures. It's not really about the music, and almost everything is about the fans liking the idols as people or entertainers, more than musicians.

Part of BTS popularity is definitely thanks to ships, and to the "ot7" agenda. The same as it is for literally every other kpop group on earth. After BTS blew up after winning their first bbma social award, they doubled down on the "we're a family we're so close" stuff. I'm not saying it was fake, but it was also a tool. The way two famous people dating will mean pr moves for both of them in spite of how genuine their love might be, BTS started putting their relationship as a group on the forefront of what being BTS meant, and it was also a pr move.

Bighit made a survey for fans in late 2017.

It was a study market but most of the questions weren't about music. There were a couple that were something like "what do you like about BTS" and relationship between members was one of the options.

I don't know if you were around, but here's a link where you can see the questions, since I can't find screenshots of the survey itself.

A moment that stuck with me was in 2018 when news said that Jungkook had bought his own apartment. Before that, there had been news about Jin, Yoongi, Hoseok and Taehyung buying their own places. Silence from the company. But when JK bought trimage, bighit immediately issued an statement denying it. Even though Jungkook did have his own place there 😭 but him being the youngest was sort of the glue that was supposed to keep the family together. Half of BTS lore is how Jungkook was raised by all the other six members. He couldn't possibly be independent.

A lot of that obviously goes under the radar because BTS music is actually good, or at least they had some outstanding stuff.

The 2020 - 2022 period was particularly "worse" in that sense... All there was to be enjoy was ships, and the members interactions or their "relationship" with fans. The music was bad, no tour, no performances in general, and the behind the scenes content was lacking too. The whole "we didn't want to do solo songs we wanted to sing all together 🫶" they pulled for their last concerts.. it was all about the same narrative of "being together". The LA and Las Vegas concerts were a whole other level of fanservice.

BTS Jin, Top 9 Most Influential Influencers in the U.S.

BTS' Jin gained popularity by taking the top spot among Asian males in 'America's Most Influential Influencer'.

On March 12, Jin was ranked 9th in the 'Top 1000 Most Influential Influencers in America' announced by the influencer marketing platform HypeAuditor. This is the highest ranking among Asian men and the second highest ranking among men worldwide.

On the same chart, Jin also took first place in Asia for 24 consecutive days from March 22 last year and 107 consecutive days from October 3 of last year. Despite her military white flag, she also wrote a great record with a strong influence in the United States.

Jin, the only BTS member ranked in the TOP 50, showed off his hot popularity along with the most famous artists and celebrities Miley Cyrus, Shakira, and Adele.

Rising Afrobeats Star Oxlade Unveils New Track & Music Video "Arabambi"

Today, rising Afropop star Oxlade returns with a new track and music video “Arabambi". Over the lush, airy instrumental, Oxlade wields his blend of Afrobeats, R&B, and pop as he yearns for his lover to stay by his side and give him her love forever. This track marks the final phase before his debut album Oxlade From Africa which is set be released this fall.

About the track, Oxlade says “Arabambi means “the child of the people,” “the community gave birth to this child”, “the one.” It’s also the nickname of K1 De Ultimate, an iconic Nigerian Fuji musician. The melody is inspired by the American singer Miguel and the way he uses his vocals. It’s a love song but it's still me in my braggadocious elements. It is the original song I was meant to perform for COLORSxSTUDIOS before I swapped it for ‘Ku Lo Sa.’”  The track comes together with a music video which radiates heat, both in its visual appeal and the palpable energy it exudes, encapsulating the essence of the track's hot, vibrant celebration of rhythm. The picturesque video finds Oxlade and his lady traveling to the tropics to bask in each other’s presence among the stunning scenery.

“Arabambi” is the latest release from Oxlade From Africa, Oxlade's upcoming debut album, following "Intoxycated", the red hot collaboration with UK rap star Dave as well as his two-pack single KATIGORI/PIANO. A smooth single that dissects the modern language of love, “Intoxycated” reached the Top 50 of the UK official charts, garnered coverage in The New York Times, and earned Hottest Record distinction from BBC Radio 1. The album continues the momentum from Oxlade's massive 2022 hit, "Ku Lo Sa", which racked up over 541 million global streams.

Oxlade’s rise to mainstream recognition has continued in full force last year with a nomination for Best Afrobeats Song at the 2023 Billboard Music Awards. Oxlade’s BBMA nomination followed a strong showing at the 2023 Headie Awards, where he received four nominations including Best Song Of The Year and Best Recording Of The Year. Last summer, Oxlade raised his profile with incredible live performances, including a performance with Usher at the Global Citizen Festival in Ghana, and a performance alongside Wizkid at the Accor Arena in France.
