i owe everyone a smol collection and commentary to wips/scraps i did before, during and after the fime i went into ur average cliche hollywood cringe emo phase

^^ THIS. oh my god, where do i even start about this.

MY GOSH this was like, the last thing i did b4 i fully succumbed to burn out as a whole LMAO

i made this becoz i got inspired by marc brunet doing yoneyama mai’s style vid that passed by my feed as i scrolled through hoards wanting even a single dose of motivation to prevent what i knew was an upcoming artblock.

and y’know me, i HEART yoneyama sm. so seeing that was my absolutely yumyum cup of tea—temporarily 😭

u see, EVERYTHING WAS GOING SO WELL⁉️ until i reached my limit at (unsurprisingly) hair shading.

needless to say, this was scrapped becaz—sure, the idea was overall wonderful—but the way i did the blue moon weed flower and the lighting was just NOT it for me at all. nuh uh (i essentially went through a major sob story era after this BUT i convinced myself it was just a phase—and guess what? IT WAS!! showed myself i own me n i do me 🗣️ WHOS THE ALPHA⁉️😈)

^basically, after struggling to find myself for a while, i soon fortunately managed to get back to it in the slightest!;) andddd so, recently, i alas decided to do something just for me.

no more frieren fridays(+apothecary dairies) were honestly hella extra upsetting when it happened during an existential crisis moment. but hey, i got to finally draw some characs i rlly love!

these are some 30 min warmups to both challenge and to have fun myself considering its been quite some time since ive picked up my pencil and done smth worth my while.

personally content with this. moreover, it genuinely helped a lot for me to start drawing stuff again;)

Do you have any advice for drawing backgrounds? I want to start drawing them more but they intimate me and perspective seems really difficult

I can try! I kinda suck at givin advice, but here we go

When drawin backgrounds, you almost wanna think of them as their own characters with the details you add n put into them. Rooms n homes are the best ways to express this bcuz you can add details like decor that represents those who live there n shit. You can draw the wear n tear on things, the aging, etc. Of course, a lot homes aren't gonna be as maximalist as I like to draw lol but that doesn't mean they don't have their own charm. Even when it comes to drawin the outside, there's so many little details that make the whole piece. Even a vast open desert has rocks, cracks, heat waves n alla that. Now that's just talkin about details, if perspective is what you need to work on, there's a few exersizes for that I guess.

You wanna focus on depth. Now not every scene has to have a lot bcuz sometimes that's just not the perspective or location, but depth is kinda important. Think of what's in the foreground (closest), middle ground, and the WAY way background. The two best ways to really capture this depth can be 1) Forest/nature scenes, and 2) Lookin through a window.

Practice by drawin the things you see. Like wherever you're sittin, draw your perspective from right there (includin things close to you in the foreground). This can help gain a better understanding of shots n scenes in different locations n understandin the perspective. These drawings don't have to be the most beautiful thing, just take in the depth n perspective. Take a very impressionistic style if you wanna.

I think the best advice I can give ya is to REALLY take in your surroundings. Every now n then, just take a moment to take in all of the little details in a room, in public, outside, on transit, etc. Look for the things that everyone sees but it's such commonplace that no one really notices. The beauty of backgrounds is that they can say a lot about a character, a places history, etc. Backgrounds tell their own mfin story.

But yeah, perspective can be kinda tricky, so imma go back to those two depth practices I recommended. Gonna do some quick lil shitty sketches to show you what I mean on like gettin that shit in. (Sorry for the crumply paper, my cat sat his wet ass on it). These are just to get an idea of what the practices can look like! They're not te end all be all. Spend as much or as little time as you want. It's all about learnin, man

I don't know how helpful this was. Sorry about that, dude. The best advice I can give is to just keep practicin. Everythin seems intimidating at first. Ya just gotta take the stride forward and keep tryin. It doesn't matter where you are with backgrounds now, bcuz with an effort made you'll see improvement each n every time. I've seen some of your stuff, man, I know you got this shit. Good luck!

pokesona, the stars are falling (not posted, will be posted with this years redraw), jewel's house, sleeping jewel, jewel's bedroom (also an extra bcuz i really like it but couldn't find the compressed file to put here: be back soon screen)

i have a lot of fun drawing my pokesona, it was drawn completely using vector lines which was unbelievably enlightening

the stars are falling was first drawn back in 2020 and has become a way for me to compare how my art has developed over the years. 2020 only featured Jason (he/him), 2021 only had Zero (ey/em), and 2022 includes the former two plus Cleo (she/her, but shes bigender and also goes by Liam he/him), 2023 will include Jason and Ambe (she/her). its a way for me to basically do a benchmark test on my composition and anatomy and colours and shading. i always have a lot of fun drawing it and sometimes making whole new brushes. important note: this one was actually submitted to an art contest, sadly i lost but it was actually my first time since elementary putting my art out with the intent to be judged.

jewel's house was my first time drawing and designing a house and finding different places to incorporate hearts was literally so much fun.

sleeping jewel is just super cute and jewel's bunny hoodie is my favourite thing ever. i have it on my phone and could stare at it for hours.

jewel's bedroom is ALSO a redraw. i enjoyed trying to fit so many things in it, i enjoyed sketching, i enjoyed lining, i enjoyed colouring. though this is actually my least fav of the 5 bcuz i fully believe the idea that your art is only as good as its weakest point. that's not to say its bad or that everyone will approach it as critically as possible. not even to say that everything needs to be perfect. but when i was rendering it, i didn't want to shade. so i took a funky brush and just rushed thru shading. in fact you can see that when watching the speedpaint, i just kinda scribbled the shading. HOWEVER that doesnt take away from the fact i think the rest of it is really well done. i think i did well on the bed in particular and the fact that i stylized a real bed that we own and my actual childhood bed that i would die to get back (we owned two, mine was lost when mum and dad had to abandon my childhood home bcuz of shitty roommates and a shitty landlord) i enjoyed drawing my actual stuffed animals and my actual lolita dress. it like actually has sentimental value bcuz of all of that i just wish i did it better.

uhhhh so like i dont usually recieve comments on my work aside from my family's "wow i could never do that" soooo well go with the comment you left on my bunny hoodie design bcuz as far as i can remember iirc it was the first time id gotten a nice comment about my fashion designs and i was really happy someone liked it bcuz im like super nervous about my silly fashion doodles :)

18. do you have any larger projects you'd like to pursue? like comics, shortfilm, a series, etc?

yes! id like House Of Misfits to be a cartoon, tho the show would probably be lighter than the short stories bcuz i don't imagine i could explore Amber's backstory on screen. im making a proof-of-concept website which is technically online and more than 70% unfinished.

i also have a coming-of-age novel i need to do research for called Saftey Blanket about a hijabi girl named Aminah in her senior year of highschool (if i made it a series wed get to see her twin siblings realize they're trans which would be fun but rn they are but lil babbies), id like to make a children's cartoon and a visual novel but i don't currently have any ideas for either.

btw despite the fact that i am an animator, i don't want to animate a show. i want to run a show. i don't actually enjoy animations longer than maybe 10 seconds.

i have a side project based around the album A Constant State Of Ohio by Lincoln that would be a very personal project around self image while having multiple personality disorders (and other problems), but i cannot for the life of me make an animatic. there's lots of ideas like this jostling in my brain, like a stop-motion animation of Through The Roof n Underground by Gogol Bordello, where i just simply cannot which i am fine with.

then theres the fact i do actually want to sew my fashion designs, at least that bunny hoodie if nothing else, and i cannot get my hands on any fabric despite owning a sewing machine

like heaven in the game is presented as p sketch, so im sure a diagnosis up there would be frowned upon (and also simeon has learned to mask like a pro bcuz of that <\3)

as for diavolo and barbatos like? they kinda dont really *need/want* it if that makes sense? like diavolo for example, he's a prince, so any accommodation he wants/needs would just be given to him because royalty. barbatos probably knows with like, his future sight or something, but hes someone who strikes me as an extremely private person (nd thing maybe? i mean it kinda resonates with me at least) so he possibly just didnt tell dia.

solomon? idk maybe a mix of all the above or something?

Yeah the celestial realm/simeon thing would make sense. Even in the game they seemed to want all angels to fit into an extremely specific box (as seen in the angel event)

Yeah, the barbatos and dia thing makes sense too, even though Diavolo isn't extremely private the way Barbatos is he still keeps a lot of things about himself hidden

The brothers, even at their worst moments have had each other.

Simeon had Lucifer at some point and even though things seem bad with Michael & Raphael, the game shows that they all seem to share good and bad moments/memories with each other

Diavolo & Barbatos had each other

Solomon, who has been alive for almost as long as them says he hasn't had proper friends or family for a long time and until he met MC he saw the demons he had pacts with as his pawns. So what if...what if he just never realised it? What if thought that's what it's like for everyone? Cause like:

Ranking the Avatar seasons

this is purely for fun, and also bcuz ik a lot of this is gonna b controversial and yall know how i LOVE stirring shit up. also id love to hear yalls opinions. (worst to best)

7) Legend of Korra Book 2: Spirits

ok this one isnt controversial lmao. everyone knows this season is ass. it’s especially bad bcuz i feel like it gives this series a bad rep when really it’s just this season thats so bad. obviously i know that it’s only this terrible bcuz the series was supposed to end with season 1, and i am glad overall that the series didnt end with season 1, but this season did not help it’s case. awful things included the lore retcon, the re-introduction of the stupid love triangle that nobody wanted, erasing everyones character growth from season 1, and everything they did with bolin. there are good things tho. like what they did with kya, tenzin, and bumi. and overall, i appreciate the decision to leave the spirit portals open because that’s a really bold move and shows how korra is willing to listen to her villains and consider their point of view. and it’s a great setup for season 3

6) Legend of Korra Book 4: Balance

this one is miles ahead of season 2, but overall it’s nothing special. the ideas are good, and i was super into this season before they brought in the giant robots bcuz giant robots is never a good idea, but ya. kuvira was cool. i liked korras character arc. i think prince wu was hilarious. and the ending ended up being perfect for the show. korrassami walked so that modern lgbt characters in kids cartoons could run

5) Avatar the Last Airbender Book 1: Water

ok listen. i appreciate what this season did for the series, and all the setup and character introductions were necessary, but other than a few standout episodes like The Storm and The Blue Spirit and The Siege of the North, it’s not super enjoyable. when im binging the series with my friends or family, season 1 is always just something we have to get through to get to the real good stuff. it’s very monster-of-the-week kiddie-cartoon style, which can be great and is something that the show perfects in seasons 2 and 3, but ya. basically i like everything in this season that everyone else likes, and there are no real glaring problems, but its just not as enjoyable as the seasons higher on this list

4) Legend of Korra Book 1: Air

yes this one has lots of problems. namely the love triangle and the fact that the characters are just... not great, but i feel like its existence is justified and it’s really fun to watch and super engaging. the moment water bending was a thing, every viewer who’s taken 3rd grade biology was like “so can you bend... people?” then they do one episode about blood bending and just kind of forget about it. it was cool to get to explore blood bending in this season, especially through tarlok, who i liked a LOT. he was super cool. amon was cool too but being able to take away someones bending with blood bending is difficult to get behind. and the bender vs non-bender issue is something that in a a universe like this, kind of had to get brought up, but i just wish they had done it better. (side note: i liked the flashbacks to adult gaang). overall, fun season. also, the fights all looked incredible

3) Avatar the Last Airbender Book 2: Earth

this season is so good. the only reason it isn’t higher than season 3 is because it still feels like a lot of setup for season 3 but its still incredible. i love the aesthetic, i love everything they do with the characters. azula is a great villain. toph is such a great new character. ba sing se is an awesome setting (i love how creepy and sketch it is). Zuko Alone, Tales of Ba Sing Se, Crossroads of Destiny, etc etc are some of the best episodes in the series. issues: i didn’t really like the episodes set in the dessert, and the finale kinda seems like it comes out of no where when you’re watching.

2) Avatar the Last Airbender Book 3: Fire

ok this season is basically perfect. is what i would say if the first half of the season didn’t exist. other than just “the first half is boring”, there isn’t much criticism i can say about this season. ig energy bending was kind of an asspull? but that’s basically it. from day of the black sun onward, everything comes together so nicely and it’s so so enjoyable and fun and incredible and i love it. the characters arcs are all perfect (though zuko is really the star of the season), the story progresses in such a satisfying way, and everything just... makes sense. best television finale ever (ok tcw also has the best finale ever but thats not the point). its impossible not to love this season

1) Legend of Korra Book 3: Change

LETS GOOOOO this season is HYPE AF. SO BADASS. SO FUN. ALL THE WAY THROUGH. i love this season so much. i wudnt give a single fuck about this show is not for this season. since im ranking the seasons individually, this is at the top, though i don’t think lok is better than atla (even though i LIKE IT better. but thats a conversation for another time). it took the good things from season 2 of lok and expanded on it, while fixing all the issues it had. the love triangle is FINALLY gone, we get some great character development, we FINALLY leave republic city and do some good-old-fashioned traveling the world with the avatar, and the villains are incredible. (side note: this season shudve been the air season bcuz its where we actually get to learn about the element of air). this season also introduced lava bending into the avatar universe, which is just SO COOL. and it makes SO MUCH sense. like if water benders can shift between the solid and liquid forms of ice, than of COURSE a really powerful earth bender can do the same with rocks. again, every single battle is awesome and badass as fuck and they’re all different from one another, too. oh and zuko is awesome in this season. he’s awesome in every season, but i love what they did with him here. no, i don’t think its pandering. i just think it’s cool.

omg ok so 2 years back, we hav this notice board compitition sort of thing and I made portraits of my principal and the founder of our school (surprisingly it turned out good!) everyone liked it except one girl of different sec and she said she'll fix it (and I an absolute idiot gave it to her🤡) so not only she ruined my sketch COMPLETELY she also showed it to principal and messed up the whole surprise and later on give it back to me with THAT. smile, atm I was holding a two meter long celo-fine roll(a kind of thin plastic) and I was so angry that I smashed it into her head obv nothing happens more than the plastic wrap getting getting into pieces 🙂 Idk why I did that bcuz I never ever do smth like that but she deserved it sooooo💀
