LOVER! ok… i am not even a law major😭i’m a data science & business marketing major! it’s a req for business cores… worst class ever. college tips from a silly junior under the cut :3
1. when enrolling into classes, ALWAYS check rate my professor.com and previous student evaluations of professors!!! the former has helped me several times (tho one time it failed me… more so, a great prof but not my teaching style)
2. pls pls pls, make a connection with your academic advisor. i genuinely think this has helped me SO much with navigating classes and literally my major. i didn’t realize i could do a double major while still (hopefully) graduating on time, but she helped me so much. also, a great person to write a letter of recc towards internships/jobs!
3. figure out your studying style! some ppl like flash cards, some like quizzing websites, and some outlining! (i like outlining hehe)
4. go to office hours. literally everybody your first week is gonna tell you this and it’s only this year that i actually started going. great way to make connections in terms of future internships, and again, letters of recc! i’m talking w one of my current prof’s for an internship under his other job for next summer!
5. if you’re a commuter like me, this is so so hard to do and i promise it is 110% okay to not be apart of them, but clubs! i’ve never been to a campus where there isn’t a MILLION clubs. clubs in uni are sooooo chill and laid back (well… most lol)
6. ermmm idk hahaha, these are ones i can think of off the top of my head. try not to burn yourself out, tho it’s very hard to do and realize you’re doing it. make time for you and for things you enjoy doing. uni feels like hell and the best times ever at the same time, but no matter the fact, it’s temporary! life will exist so much past uni so don’t beat yourself up, and don’t worry baby!!! you got this >:)

The Original Doll -- Caretaker Series ICARUS.

A species of a man-made greed, lust and wrath. Frederick created something he shouldn't have, but it didn't stop his desires of science from reaching its pinnacle. Those with the darkest secrets, the vilest of taboos - fed his research, gave him endless credits and money to pursue his curiosities of the human body, the power of science and overall, depravity. It probably doesn't sound like such a vile thing to get a Doll for care taking - however it wasn't just a butler made of synthetic materials and data in its smooth brain. It was a creation of monsters without ethics. A being born into this world under microscopes and in tubes filled with concoctions that would rattle the world.
But - the mattered not. It wasn't like it was human.
It wasn't a real child. It wasn't a real teenager. It wasn't a real adult. It was a thing.
And nothing but a thing to be used, abused and exploited to their owner's consent.
After all, when one has a dirty secret, keeping it locked behind closed doors is the best method of keeping the pupil away from it. Crime rates in the streets lowered by 80% Crime rates in general lowered by 40%
He was named ICARUS. A warning for the Scientists under Frederick's order to never get too close to the sun. Icarus remembers little and vague pieces of his life the moment his brainstem was placed into his body - he remembers the warmth of a bosom and the blinding lights of a sterile room. He never remembers anything else after closing his eyes. Another time was when he was standing on his own two feet, and said feet as impaled with pins and needles scattered on the floor. He doesn't remember much else besides staring into a pool of his own neon blue blood. It was pretty. Dreams like this happened over and over, memories of a fragmented growth period, but it never really stuck out to him as memories. More like vague dreams that he occasionally thinks back on when a moments silence allows him such.
The only memory he holds onto though, was meeting her, for the first time. She, like him - wasn't a human. They could tell each other apart easily… It was a strange existence, and they befriended each other very quickly. Hand in hand, much to the humans dislike, but it was research nonetheless. Even the banter Icarus learned, the conversational elements of his life, the violence of throwing punches and tackling bigger beings to the ground after classes. It was always a vivid memory with her, for her.
Then she fell ill, collapsing and clutching at her broken heart. Defective. Useless. A waste of time. A failure.
He never liked those words for Her, she never gave up and in turn - the time and love he held for her like he's read so many times in a book, he stood and turned to his caretakers, offering his heart as a replacement. He was big and strong, his pumped heavily and without pain. Unbroken and with their growing smiles, they allowed him to rest besides her in those sterile rooms, to have his heart removed and replaced with her defected one. Broken it was, but his body monitoring kept it alive. It was mended and fixed - a healthy heart but still too large for his body. After all, he hadn't grown as fast as she did, if anything - he never did grow.
Another blankness in his memory --- the last time he remembers a vivid memory of his life.
He grew to her age now, his body stiff and new, but her heart beats with every breath with him and for him. He holds a piece of her that can never be given to anyone else. For her, with her, laid his own.
Though he was sold and used, thrown aside and returned for years on end. She was always there to pick him back up, to mend his skin and tears, to break his bones for that fix of pleasure - to mend him back to new when it was time for another owner for his throat. The last memory he held after that night was whispering a goodbye - watching her leave with another group and within the year, he was granted his wish of being decommissioned.
So he slept.
In that time, he did not know his fellow Dolls grew vast and strong, devouring their masters and slaughtering their abusers. He did not know his creator was slaughtered by the devoted lunatic Yomi - a doll of his own series and self but with a mind ten times more demented after the loss of his One and Only Master.
He did not know Yomi, in his obsession took over Frederick's company - made it crash and burn once, but picked it right back up. Making it better, faster, newer and five times more successful. Frederick was never known for his connections on his own terms, always a recommended dirty secret - but Yomi didn't allow that to stay.
That reputation was ruined, his creator's name smeared into the dirt like trod on dog shit. Yomi, fought for them - in his own insanity to remake his Human as one of their own, but it was never possible. After all, he was a perfectionist, nothing would ever be as clean and beautiful as his memories.
So, that when in the depression of never being able to make his one and only return to him, he sent out a message. And in return, Sailor was once more on his doorstep. Then in their hands, did they hold the brain of one of their closet and oldest friends. . .
ICARUS 2.0.
Reborn, remade, recalibrated and rejoiced --- floating in a sea of bath bomb glitter, chemicals and fluids that would render any creature to death from suffocation, only filled his chosen organs. A heart held in its highest order, Sailor's old heart. His skin blended in their choices, his eyes and teeth - his tongue, nails and toes. Every part of him was refurbished. Every hour, every month, every year that passed - did they take their time for Icarus to be remade.
So, when his eyes opened for the first time since three years ago - - - Icarus, could only add to his memories - the face of his Sailor and newest family member, Yomi.
Now it was time to try and be a Doll once again.

“Stocks closed higher today amid brisk trading…” On the radio, television, in print and online, news outlets regularly report trivial daily changes in stock market indices, providing a distinctly slanted perspective on what matters in the economy. Except when they shift suddenly and by a large margin, the daily vagaries of the market are not particularly informative about the overall health of the economy. They are certainly not an example of news most people can use. Only about a third of Americans own stock outside of their retirement accounts and about one in five engage in stock trading on a regular basis. And yet the stock market’s minor fluctuations make up a standard part of economic news coverage.
But what if journalists reported facts more attuned to the lives of everyday Americans? For instance, facts like “in one month, the richest 25,000 Americans saw their wealth grow by an average of nearly $10 million each, compared to just $200 dollars apiece for the bottom 50% of households”? Thanks to innovative new research strategies from leading economists, we now have access to inequality data in much closer to real time. Reporters should be making use of it.
The outsized attention to the Dow Jones and Nasdaq fits with part of a larger issue: class bias in media coverage of the economy. A 2004 analysis of economic coverage in the Los Angeles Times found that journalists “depicted events and problems affecting corporations and investors instead of the general workforce.” While the media landscape has shifted since 2004, with labor becoming a “hot news beat,” this shift alone seems unlikely to correct the media’s bias. This is because, as an influential political science study found, biased reporting comes from the media’s focus on aggregates in a system where growth is not distributed equally; when most gains go to the rich, overall growth is a good indicator of how the wealthy are doing, but a poor indicator of how the non-rich are doing.
In other words, news is shaped by the data on hand. Stock prices are minute-by-minute information. Other economic data, especially about inequality, are less readily available. The Bureau of Labor Statistics releases data on job growth once a month, and that often requires major corrections. Data on inflation also become available on a monthly basis. Academic studies on inequality use data from the Census Bureau or the Internal Revenue Service, which means information is months or even years out of date before it reaches the public.
But the landscape of economic data is changing. Economists have developed new tools that can track inequality in near real-time:
From U.C. Berkeley, Realtime Inequality provides monthly statistics and even daily projections of income and wealth inequality — all with a fun interactive interface. You can see the latest data and also parse long-term trends. For instance, over the past 20 years, the top .01% percent of earners have seen their real income nearly double, while the bottom 50% of Americans have seen their real income decline.
The State of U.S. Wealth Inequality from the St. Louis Fed provides quarterly data on racial, generational, and educational wealth inequality. The Fed data reminds us, for example, that Black families own about 25 cents for every $1 of white family wealth.
While these sources do not update at the speed of a stock ticker, they represent a massive step forward in the access to more timely, accurate, and complete understanding of economic conditions.
Would more reporting on inequality change public attitudes? That is an open question. A few decades ago, political scientists found intriguing correlations between media coverage and voters’ economic assessments, but more recent analyses suggest that media coverage “does not systematically precede public perceptions of the economy.” Nonetheless, especially given the vast disparities in economic fortune that have developed in recent decades, it is the responsibility of reporters to present data that gives an accurate and informative picture of the economy as it is experienced by most people, not just by those at the top.
And these data matter for all kinds of political judgments, not just public perspectives on the economy. When Americans are considering the Supreme Court’s recent decision on affirmative action, for example, it is useful to know how persistent racial disparities remain in American society; white high school dropouts have a greater median net worth than Black and Hispanic college graduates. Generational, racial, and educational inequality structure the American economy. It’s past time that the media’s coverage reflects that reality, rather than waste Americans’ time on economic trivia of the day.

With Picard season 3 ending very soon, let's review the endings to modern Trek, and see the chances of it ending well. Or rather, you read what I think.
Discovery S1: Flat as a pancake end to the Klingon war, following epic and satisfying ends to the Klingon sarcophagus ship and Lorca's mutiny storylines. Massive backstage unheavel meant the end and beginning had very different creative direction. 1/5.
Discovery S2: I loved it, a massive epic space battle, a big emotional farewell between Spock and Michael (argubly the first time Discovery paused a massive crisis for a therapeutic chitchat, which would go on to become a tiresome cliche) and great time travel scenes even though the Red Angel did things Michael never could have (like disable the Ba'ul technology as if by magic) so it doesn't work if you look closely. Still, more creative upheaval and rumours of a massive change in creative direction mid-season, supposedly dropping a faith vs science plotline which would have featured a religious Captain Pike butting heads with Michael for the fun but cliche Control/Skynet story. Set up Section 31, Strange New Worlds spin-offs and Discovery's jump to the 32nd century. 5/5 despite flaws I was buzzing afterwards.
Picard S1: A flat ending to the synth storyline, a weird choice to kill Picard and make him a synth (perhaps a fix job for an originally planned sacrifice they had to work around when they decided to carry the show on?) and with some solid gold scenes with Picard and Data in the weird synth computer simulation afterlife. 2/5.
Discovery S3: A fun end with big fist fights in an impossible hammerspace between Discovery's decks. 3/5.
Picard S2. The final scenes between Q and Picard were solid gold. The rest was runny shite. 1/5.
Discovery S4. Big alien aliens. Deus ex machina brings Book back from the dead. Book gets community service for terrorist activities. Peace is made with the floaty giant aliens. Flat again, as was the whole season IMHO. 2/5.
Lower Decks S1. I don't remember. 3/5 it was always fun and watchable.
Strange New Worlds S1: The Ghost of Christmas Future and a reboot of Balance of Terror. Iffy Jim Kirk casting. 4/5.
Lower Decks S2. I remember Carol's arrest. 3/5.
Prodigy S1. Amazing season, amazing finale. Every emotional beat was earned. 5/5 the best of modern Trek, watch it if you haven't.
Lower Decks S3. Loved the race between Cerritos and the Texas-class. But holy shit Starfleet needs to stop with letting AI control anything important. The end with the Cali-class saving the say was ace. 4/5.
Don't fuck it up, Picard S3 people. Your season has been an amazing, contrived, fanwank explosion clusterfuck that somehow works really well so far. Don't ruin it.
