Is Bechloe week happening?
I really want it too and will be sad if it doesn’t. I know the fandom is getting smaller and smaller but for the ones still here I think we should keep going.

bechloe week day 1: sneaking around
Words: 1846
Notes: It’s bechloe week! I think I mentioned before that I didn’t think I’d be writing every prompt this year, and yeah that’s going to be the case. I have an idea for a couple that I’d like to write (plus this one) but I won’t be doing all of them.
Anyway, enjoy day 1!
Read on AO3
Beca tried not to glance over her shoulder for a third time as she made her way across campus, past the grand building which contained her father’s office, and towards the auditorium where Bellas’ rehearsals were held.
Normally there’d be nothing suspicious about Beca leaving her dorm and making the short walk to the auditorium, but it was close to 10 pm on a Sunday night, so it would be hard to convince anyone she ran into that she was simply heading to a rehearsal.
She tried to remind herself that no one was likely to ask. Nobody cared why she was sneaking around the campus at night. Nobody would even give her a second glance.
It still didn’t stop her from tugging her hood up over her head and turning away as she passed by her father’s building, just on the off chance that he would be working late. On a Sunday.
She felt ridiculous, but she did it anyway, hands pushing deeper into her pockets as she quickened her pace.
As she reached the auditorium, she caught sight of the person who made all this sneaking around worth it. She felt the knot of anxiety in her stomach loosen and her shoulders started to relax.
Chloe, who had been talking on the phone, spotted her approaching and smiled.
“I gotta go ‘Bree, speak to you later,” Chloe said, grinning at Beca as she ended the call and slipped her phone back into her pocket. “Hi,” she said.
“Hi,” Beca replied, smiling, feeling the calm relief that only Chloe could make her feel. “Have you been waiting long?”
Chloe shook her head, turning to unlock the door of the auditorium. “Aubrey always makes me call her when I’m heading out. She doesn’t like me walking around by myself this late.”
Beca felt a familiar pang of guilt in her stomach as she followed Chloe through the door.
“That wasn’t a dig, by the way,” Chloe said, taking hold of Beca’s hand now that the outside world couldn’t see them.
“I know,” Beca said. If there was one thing she knew about Chloe, it was that she was a well of patience and understanding.
“And I haven’t told her about us,” Chloe said, taking hold of Beca’s other hand, walking backwards as she pulled her away from the door and further into the darkness of the auditorium. “I haven’t told anyone.”
“I know,” Beca said again. Add that to the list of things she knew about Chloe Beale. Patient, understanding, trustworthy.
“Then why does your face look like that?” Chloe asked, stopping, smiling as she felt Beca bump into her. There was just enough moonlight peaking through the high-up windows that Chloe could make out Beca’s expression.
“Like what?”
“Like you’re worried,” Chloe said, kissing one cheek, then the other, then her lips. “Like you’re thinking too much.”
“I just… I hate that we have to do this,” Beca said. “I hate that I have to keep you a secret.”
“Bec, it’s okay,” Chloe replied, her hands squeezing Beca’s before moving to rest on her hips. “You aren’t ready yet. I’m happy to wait until you are.”
“I… I want to be ready,” Beca said. “It’s just… My Dad works here…”
“I know,” Chloe said. “Believe me, I get it, you don’t have to explain yourself. Coming out is a big thing and you shouldn’t rush it.”
Beca smiled and felt the tension she’d been carrying begin to fall away. “How’d I get so lucky with you?” She asked, her eyes falling shut as Chloe closed the gap between them.
“I’m the lucky one,” Chloe said, her forehead resting against Beca’s once their lips separated. “I’m the only one who gets to see you like this.” She pulled Beca further into the room, towards the beat-up sofa in the far corner. The one Chloe always made sure was full of junk during rehearsals, so no one ever sat on it. “One day, the world will see you for the amazing person you are. One day, you’ll outshine the sun. But tonight, I get you all to myself.”
“I bet you say that to all your secret girlfriends,” Beca said, trying to hide the way her heart beat faster, glad Chloe couldn’t see her cheeks darken. She dumped her bag on the ground and shrugged out of her jacket, dropping it on one side of the sofa as Chloe took a seat on the other.
“Only the ones as special as you,” Chloe said, pulling Beca onto her lap. Her hands toyed with the end of Beca’s shirt. “Are you gonna keep this on?”
-
“How long will you wait?” Beca asked a little while later, her head on Chloe’s chest as they lay on the sofa. The cold air of the auditorium bit at her exposed shoulder, and she pulled the blanket she’d brought with her up so it covered them better.
“As long as it takes,” Chloe said, as patient as ever. “There’s no time limit.”
“What if I can’t ever do it?” Beca asked, shivering slightly, causing Chloe to hold her tighter. She didn’t want to admit she was cold. She didn’t want to leave this bubble they had.
“Then you don’t do it,” Chloe said. “Baby, I don’t want you to push yourself into doing something before you’re ready, just because you think it would make me happy.”
“You deserve to be with someone who isn’t afraid to be themselves,” Beca said. “Who isn’t afraid of people finding out that you’re together.”
Chloe let out a soft sigh as she ran her hand through Beca’s hair.
“Have you ever wondered why I never mention my parents?” She asked. She felt Beca shift on top of her, adjusting her position so she could see her better. Chloe kept her gaze on the particles of dust that floated through the shaft of moonlight. “Didn’t you think it was odd that I didn’t go home for Christmas?”
“I, uh, I never wanted to ask,” Beca said, feeling new waves of guilt hit her now. “I’m sorry, I should have. I didn’t know if it was a sensitive subject or not.”
“It’s okay,” Chloe said. “I’m kinda glad you didn’t, I don’t really like talking about them.”
“What happened?” Beca asked, assuming it was okay to ask now since Chloe had been the one to bring them up.
“We… We had a really good relationship when I was growing up. They were always kind, loving and supportive. They’re religious, but not like… They weren’t the kind to go protest outside Planned Parenthood, or turn up at Pride with a bullhorn, you know? They had their beliefs, but they were sort of the live and let live types. Or, I thought they were, anyway.”
Beca shifted her position again so could see Chloe better. She could just about make out the tears in her eyes, and it broke her heart because she knew where this story was going.
“I came out to them when I was sixteen,” Chloe said. “I didn’t think it would be a big deal. I knew the church had opinions about gay people, but I didn’t think my parents shared them. I didn’t think they were that kind of religious.” Chloe swallowed, and Beca pressed a kiss to the closest bit of her skin she could reach. “They told me either we could all just pretend I’d never said anything, or I could leave. Forever. So, for two years I pretended to be a different person. We never talked about it again, but they never looked at me in the same way. They never had the same… warmth when they spoke to me. And it destroyed me. It nearly killed me.”
Beca felt tears sting her eyes as Chloe spoke aloud the deep-seated fear she’d always had about what would happen if she ever came out to her own family.
“Before I went to college I spoke to them again. I told them nothing had changed, and they could either accept me for who I was or they could lose me,” Chloe said, clearing her throat. “I haven’t seen them in about three years now.”
“Chlo’, I’m so sorry,” Beca said. “You don’t deserve that. They don’t deserve you.”
“I know,” Chloe said. “So I know why you’re scared, and it’s why I would never rush you. Having your parents reject you like that… It changes you. It breaks something inside of you and I don’t know how you fix it. So believe me when I say you don’t need to come out until you’re ready.”
“Thank you for telling me all of that,” Beca said. “I had no idea. You always seemed so… you’re so confident and happy and I… I wouldn’t ever have known.”
“It was a conscious decision. I spent two years being ashamed of who I was,” Chloe said. “Being so desperately unhappy and feeling like I’d never be loved. When I came out again I decided I wasn’t going back to that. I lost the relationship with my parents, but I gained one with my aunt and her partner. I found a community and support and more real friends than I’d ever had before. I don’t regret it.”
“You’re amazing,” Beca said. She opened her mouth to say something else but was cut off by the sound of Chloe’s phone ringing.
Beca moved so Chloe could answer it.
“Hey ‘Bree,” Chloe said, rolling her eyes playfully at Beca. “I’m fine, I’ll be coming home soon. Yeah, I’ll call you when I’m on my way.”
She ended the call and looked at Beca with a sad smile. “Same time tomorrow?” She asked as she started pulling on her shirt.
Beca felt something in her chest tighten as she got dressed. She didn’t want to sneak around anymore. She didn’t want to watch as their friends teased Chloe about her secret partner that she refused to tell them about.
She felt like she was treating Chloe like some dirty secret that she would only meet up with at night to screw, and she hated herself for it. Even if Chloe insisted she was fine with it, Beca wasn’t. Not anymore.
She wanted to date Chloe for real. She wanted to hold her hand as they went out for dinner and kiss her goodnight on the doorstep. She wanted to really be her girlfriend, and she wanted to be able to tell people about her. To brag about her. She wanted to be able to share her like she was good news, and not hide her like she was a shameful secret.
“Bec?”
“Can… Can I come back with you?”
Chloe’s eyebrows raised in surprise.
“I’m not quite ready to tell my parents, but… Maybe we could tell Aubrey?”
Chloe’s eyes seemed to sparkle in the moonlight as she smiled. “Are you sure?”
“I’m sure,” Beca said. “I don’t wanna hide anymore. I just… I need to start small.”
Chloe held out her hand for Beca to take. “I’m really proud of you.”

i think (s)he knows
pairing: bechloe
rating: t
word count: 857
summary:
The Starbucks espresso machine broke again and Chloe is supposed to be taking care of everything, but the mechanic who showed up to fix it is making her job more difficult than it already was.
author’s note:
so like i was not going to post this at all seeing as how i did not finish it by the end of bechloe week day 6, but @maddiedrawz convinced me to post what i had already written as part one so here i am!! i don't know if or when i'll get to part two lmao but i hope you enjoy
-----
If there is one thing that Chloe Beale has learned from working five months as a Starbucks barista, it is that she needs to be susceptible to change.
Things break. For a company as large as Starbucks who charges just about ten dollars for a freaking latte, necessities such as refrigerators and sinks and espresso machines give out easily like a children’s toy, and Chloe along with the rest of her coworkers for that day would just sigh and rearrange their routine while the manager calls for their extensive list of troubleshooting contacts.
Everybody is pretty much used to it. Someone always jokes that the machinery people probably get paid more than the actual coffee makers, and that they all should just quit so that nobody would have to come in and break something again.

BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 6
Prompt: “Ma’am, this is Starbucks.”
Twenty-five-year-old pop singing sensation, Beca Mitchell, stumbled out of the bar with her best friend, Stacie Conrad. It was two a.m., and the pair had just spent the last four hours drinking and dancing the night away. They weren’t totally drunk, but they were just tipsy enough that they were better off not driving.
“I shouldn’t drive,” Beca said. “I’ll call Jason and have him pick us up.”
“Tell him we’ll be at the Starbucks across the street while we wait for him,” Stacie said.
“Are they open?” Beca asked.
“The sign says they are open twenty-four hours,” Stacie said. “We can wait there, and I could have a coffee and a muffin. That should sober me up some.”
Beca called her driver and when she was finished with the call, she looked at Stacie. “I woke him up, so he’ll be here in about thirty to forty-five minutes.”
“Perfect,” Stacie said, making her way to the Starbucks across from the club.
Beca followed and entered the Starbucks behind Stacie. They looked around but didn’t see anyone.
“Are you sure they’re open?” Beca asked.
“Hello?!” Stacie called out. “Is anyone here?”
A blonde woman came from the back and looked at the girls.
“Hello,” the blonde said. “May I help you?”
“We want coffee,” Stacie said, smirking at the blonde. “But, there might be something else I want as well.”
The blonde, whose name tag said, Aubrey, blushed and Stacie winked at her.
“What would you like?” Aubrey croaked out, her face beet red.
“Well, Aubrey,” Stacie said, looked at the blonde’s name tag, and smirked. “I’d like a Grande mocha frappuccino, no whipped, and your phone number.”
Aubrey blushed more as she rang up the order. “Your name, please?”
“Stacie.”
“That will be five twenty-nine,” Aubrey said.
“I’d like to add a blueberry muffin to that,” Stacie said. “Thank you.”
Stacie pulled out a bill and held it out toward Aubrey.
Aubrey started to reach for it, staring at Stacie the entire time. Stacie smirked and raised an eyebrow at Aubrey.
“Could I get a Big Mac and fries with a coffee, please?” Beca asked Aubrey, causing her and Stacie to break their stare.
“Ma’am, this is Starbucks,” Aubrey said. “We don’t serve Big Macs.”
“Did you seriously just ma’am me?” Beca asked, smirking with one eyebrow raised.
“Beca,” Stacie hissed. “Be nice.”
“I am being nice,” Beca hissed back. “And, now that I have your attention, Aubrey. May I have a banana muffin and a large coffee?”
“I’ll get that for you, Miss Mitchell,” a redhead said from behind the counter.
Beca looked up and her eyes caught sight of the most beautiful blue eyes she had ever seen.
“Wow, you’re hot,” Beca said, looking at Chloe. She blushed when she realized she had said the words out loud.
“Thanks,” Chloe said, shooting Beca a wink.
Chloe and Aubrey went to prepare Beca and Stacie’s coffee orders.
“Brey, why didn’t you tell me we had customers and that one of them was Beca Mitchell?” the redhead whispered.
“Sorry, Chloe,” Aubrey said. “I was too busy trying to keep my cool in front of Stacie. I mean look at her, she’s gorgeous. And she was flirting with me!”
Chloe barked out a laugh causing the girls to look at her and Aubrey. Chloe blushed at her outburst and went to get Beca’s muffin from the display case.
“Is everything okay back there?” Beca asked, watching Chloe move away from Aubrey.
“Yes, ma’am,” Chloe said, grimacing when Beca smirked and raised her eyebrow. “Everything’s fine.”
“You just ma’amed me,” Beca said. “What is with everyone calling me ma’am tonight? Do I look old or something?”
“Um, I’m sorry, ma-,” Chloe started to say and stopped. “Miss Mitchell. It’s a sign of respect and has nothing to do with your age.”
Chloe smiled at Beca and Beca found herself smiling back at Chloe.
“Can I buy you a cup of coffee?” Beca asked. “We have to wait a while for our car and Stacie seems to be enamored with your friend, so maybe you two can take a break and have coffee with us…Or not…It’s just a suggestion…One you can totally ignore if you want…Am I rambling? It’s me, of course, I’m rambling…I’m sorry for, um, rambling…I’m just going to shut up now.”
Chloe’s smile grew wider. It fell when Beca suddenly turned and hurried over to sit at a table away from the counter.
Beca slumped her shoulders, put her elbows on the table, and held her head in her hands. She started mumbling to herself whilst staring down at the table.
“Don’t mind her,” Stacie told Chloe. “She just gets nervous around pretty women.”
“Oh,” Chloe said, her smile back in place. “Aubrey, I’m taking my break now.”
Chloe poured herself a cup of coffee and placed it on a small tray with Beca’s coffee and muffin. She picked up the tray and walked over to where Beca was sitting, still staring down at the table.
“Excuse me,” Chloe said, causing Beca’s head to pop up. “It’s a bit, um, busy, and there aren’t any empty seats available. Would you mind if I sat here with you?”
Beca looked around, confused; the coffee shop was empty. She returned her gaze to Chloe, only to see her smiling at her. Beca mouthed a silent “oh.”
“Of course,” Beca croaked. She cleared her throat. “I mean, I’d love it if you sat here. With me.”
Stacie watched the interaction and smiled when Chloe set the tray on the table and then sat next to Beca. She turned to Aubrey.
“Would you like to join us as well?” she asked.
“Yes, I’d like that,” Aubrey said. “I’ll bring your order over to the table.”
“Don’t be too long,” Stacie said, winking at Aubrey.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 6 ~
One year later, Beca and Stacie were working together to plan a special evening for their girlfriends. After their initial meeting, the four women became friends and after a short time, couples.
“On Saturday, it will be one year since we met Chloe and Aubrey,” Beca told Stacie. “I want to do something special for Chloe and thought you and Aubrey would like to join us.”
“What are you going to do?”
“I’m taking her out to dinner and then to a club for some dancing and drinking,” Beca said. “And after we’ll make a trip to the Starbucks where we met. Once we get there, I’m going to, um, I’m going to ask Chloe to marry me.”
“Oh, my god, Beca!” Stacie squealed. “I should ask Aubrey, too.”
“No!” Beca said. “Come up with your own idea; this one is mine.”
“Come on, Beca,” Stacie pleaded. “We met them both at the same time on the same date and have been hanging out and doing stuff together ever since. It stands to reason that we’d propose at the same time.”
“No,” Beca said. “It’s got to be a special day for Chloe.”
“Being proposed to on the same day as her best friend, will be special for Chloe,” Stacie said. “And for Aubrey.”
Beca sighed and ran a hand through her hair. “I’m sorry I told you my plan.”
“It’s a good plan,” Stacie said. “I’ve been thinking about asking Aubrey for a couple of months now. I just couldn’t come up with an idea on how to do it. Your idea is perfect. You know how Chloe is; she’ll want to celebrate the anniversary of the day you two met, AND the day you proposed. You’ll only have to remember one date and can combine the celebrations into one.”
Beca sat thinking for a moment.
“That’s quite a convoluted explanation on why we should do it,” Beca said. “But, it also makes some sense.” She inhaled through her nose and exhaled. “Fine. We can propose together.”
Stacie squealed and grabbed Beca in a hug. “Thank you!”
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 6 ~
Saturday morning, Beca woke and reached for Chloe, only to feel cool sheets beneath her hands. She sat up and looked around before climbing out of bed and going in search of her girlfriend.
Beca heard singing coming from the kitchen and smiled as she walked in to see Chloe placing two plates on the counter. The food smelled amazing and Beca let out a small, throaty moan at the aroma.
Chloe spun around and yelped when she heard Beca moan.
“What are you doing up?” Chloe asked. “I wanted to surprise you with an anniversary breakfast.”
“I’m sorry,” Beca said. “I woke up and reached for you but you weren’t there, so I came looking for you.”
Beca pulled Chloe to her and kissed her. “Happy Anniversary!”
“Happy Anniversary,” Chloe said, leaning in for another kiss. She stepped back and threw up her arms. “Surprise!”
“You’re such a nerd,” Beca said, pulling Chloe back to her for another kiss. “I love you.”
“I love you, too,” Chloe said. “Now sit so we can eat before it gets cold.”
“Yes, ma’am,” Beca said, moving to take a seat at the counter.
“Did you just ma’am me?” Chloe asked with a teasing grin.
“Sorry,” Beca said smirking. “I did it out of respect. You know since you are older than I am.”
Chloe gave Beca a squinty-eyed glare.
“Just eat your breakfast.”
“It all looks delicious,” Beca said as she picked up her fork and started eating. “Mmm, this is delicious.”
“Um, yeah, thanks,” Chloe said, somewhat distracted.
“Everything okay, babe?” Beca asked, placing her hand on top of Chloe’s.
“Everything’s fine,” Chloe said, moving her hand away from Beca. “Would you like some coffee?”
“That’s okay,” Beca said, standing. I can get it.”
Beca walked behind Chloe and went to the coffee pot. She grabbed a cup from the cupboard and poured coffee into it. She picked the cup up and turned to go back to her seat; she immediately dropped the cup. It crashed to the ground, and coffee was spilled across the floor.
Chloe stayed where she was as Beca looked down at her.
“Chloe? What are you doing?”
“Beca,” Chloe said and cleared her throat. “I love you. I can’t think of anyone I’d rather be with than you. And I know I want to be with you for the rest of my life. Will you marry me?”
Beca gingerly stepped over the broken cup and spilled coffee. When she was in front of Chloe, she reached down, placed her hands on Chloe’s face, and bent down to connect their lips.
The kiss was quick, and Beca was mumbling, “Yes!” as she pulled back from the kiss.
Chloe squealed and jumped up, pulling Beca into a hug. “I love you so much!”
“I love you, too,” Beca said. “I guess Stacie’s on her own tonight.”
“What?” Chloe said, pulling back to look at Beca.
“Stacie and I were going to proposed to you and Aubrey tonight at the Starbucks where we all met.”
“You were?” Chloe asked.
“Yep,” Beca said. “I should call Stacie and let her know.”
“That won’t be necessary,” Chloe said, grinning. “I think by now she already knows.”
At Beca’s perplexed look, Chloe chuckled and said, “Aubrey and I planned to propose to you guys this morning.”
Beca‘s phone rang.
“That’s probably Stacie calling to tell you the news,” Chloe said.
Beca put her phone on speaker and answered the call. “Um, I know,” was how Beca answered the call. “Congratulations!”
“Congratulations to you two as well,” Stacie said.
“Congratulations, Chloe,” Aubrey said as well. “You, too, Beca.”
“Thanks,” Beca said.
“Ooo,” Chloe said. “Double proposal, double wedding?”
“NO!” Beca and Stacie yelled simultaneously as Chloe and Aubrey laughed.
“I told you the wouldn’t go for it,” Aubrey said.
“We have plenty of time to discuss it,” Chloe said.
“I’m going to hang up now,” Beca said. “So, I can show my fiance how much I love her.”
There was no teasing comment from Stacie, and Beca looked at her phone to see if the call was still going. Her eyes widened and she tossed the phone to Chloe when heavy breathing and kissing noises sounded through the speaker.
“Ew,” Beca said. “I so did not need to hear that.”
Chloe laughed at Beca as she pressed the end call button. She set the phone on the counter and walked over to Beca; she wrapped her arms around Beca’s shoulders.
“I thought we were going upstairs so you could show me how much you love me,” Chloe whispered in Beca’s ear.
Beca shivered and grabbed Chloe’s hand, pulling her out of the kitchen. Chloe giggled as she let Beca lead her upstairs.
Later that evening, Beca and Stacie decided to stick to their plan. The both dropped to one knee in front of their loves in the middle of the empty twenty-four hour Stabucks and asked the question they had both been asked that morning.
Two yeses were squealed out simultaneously. Beca and Stacie jumped up and grabbed their respective fiances and kissed them. The kisses quickly became heated, and they only pulled apart when they heard one of the baristas clear their throat.
“Ma’ams, this is Starbucks.”

the cream in my coffee
Summary: Beca never expected to find love waiting in line at Starbucks, and yet that is exactly what happens.
It's a coffee shop au about two girls crushing on each other. That's it that's the fic.
Words: 4,659

Notes: Happy bechloe week! Here is my silly little contribution, brought to you by scattered thoughts and coffee research!
Beca isn’t always proud of her actions.
Could she purchase her own coffee machine? Sure. Could she set apart five minutes of her morning to brew her own coffee? Absolutely. Or even, could she take the long way to work and stop by the cute little coffee shop that’s owned by the nice old lady who lives three floors down from Beca? Definitely.
She could do all those things very easily. Unfortunately, Beca tends to run late in the mornings as it is, which allows her little time to dally. And since Beca has a mild case of insomnia and a touch of a caffeine addiction, she contributes every weekday (and sometimes weekends) to the all-pervading abyss known as capitalism by stopping at Starbucks on her way to work.
What Mrs. Gomez doesn’t know won’t hurt her.

Basically I'm indecisive but these are some of my favorite works and series. Choosing one feels like choosing a favorite child, you just don't do that.

For bechloe week day five, prompt: single parent
“Maybe I believed in that happy life so much that I tempted fate”.
Beca felt the bitterness from those words on her own lips; and it seeped straight to her heart as she remembered times past, and a girl that knew nothing and yet believed that the smile in her mother’s eyes would last for a lifetime.
A girl that believed.
“What’s your name?” she asked, sheathing her knife back into her belt and heading for the teapot.
“Chloe”.
She repeated the name quietly, testing it out as her eyes caught the first glimpse of the rising sun over the woods.
“I’m Beca”.

“Hey Chlo’? Can you come over? Please?”
Over the sounds of a screaming baby, Chloe could just about hear the frayed edges of Beca’s voice on the phone. She could hear the strain. Feel the effort it was taking for her to keep herself together.
“I’m on my way,” Chloe replied, ignoring how late it was and how tired she felt.
She’d promised Beca she’d help her, that she’d be there for her. She wasn’t about to break that promise.
She threw a hoodie over her pyjamas and drove over to Beca’s still in her slippers.
Chloe could hear Maddy’s screaming before she’d even made it into Beca’s apartment, and when she pushed the door open she felt like the wall of sound was going to knock her over.
Beca was pacing the living room, the screaming baby in her arms was fighting and wriggling as much as a 9-month-old was able to.
Beca’s eyes met hers in a silent plea for help.
At least Chloe assumed it was silent. She wasn’t sure she’d have been able to hear Beca even if she’d spoken.
Her eyes were bloodshot and full of unshed tears and her hair was unwashed and piled in a messy bun on top of her head.
“What do you need?” Chloe asked. “How can I help?”
“Can you take her? Please?” Beca replied.
Chloe wasted no time in taking the baby from Beca’s arms into her own.
Maddy was usually all smiles for her Aunt Chloe, but not tonight. She screamed even louder as she was taken out of her Mom’s arms and she wriggled around, chubby arms outstretched in Beca’s direction for her to take her back.
Beca looked on the verge of falling apart. As if each cry out of Maddy’s mouth was breaking something inside her.
“I’ve got her Bec, go do what you need to do,” Chloe said, gently bouncing Maddy on her hip, shushing her softly.
Beca hesitated but Chloe gave her a reassuring nod and smile, and Beca hurried out of the room, shutting her bedroom door behind her.
Maddy’s cries got even more desperate, and Chloe began pacing the room with her. She felt a little out of her depth, to be honest. She was used to seeing Maddy during the day when she was giggly and playful, she didn’t have much experience with babies when they were like this.
“You’re really giving your Mama a hard time, huh?” Chloe said, wishing she knew how to help. “I know, it must be really hard when you’re upset and you can’t explain why.”
Maddy continued to sob, her hands pushing against Chloe’s chest as she tried to wriggle free.
Chloe glanced at the bedroom door, wondering what Beca was doing and if she should check on her. She couldn’t imagine how hard this must be on her. How difficult it must be when you have to do everything yourself.
Chloe helped out when she could, and she hoped she was able to make things even a little bit easier for Beca, but she knew it wasn’t really enough. Beca was still doing all the really hard stuff by herself.
Beca’s bedroom door opened and the brunette stepped out, looking a little sheepish. Chloe could tell that the tears that had been in her eyes when she’d first arrived had now been shed.
At the sight of her Mom, Maddy wriggled harder, her arms stretching towards Beca again.
“I’m here baby,” Beca said softly, taking Maddy back into her arms, and placing a kiss on the top of her head.
It seemed that being back in her Mom’s arms again made Maddy temporarily forget what had been making her so distraught before, and her cries began to quieten down as she lay her head on Beca’s chest.
Beca paced a little more as Maddy slowly stopped fussing, her tiny fist gripping the fabric of Beca’s shirt as her sobs subsided and she fell asleep.
“Thank you for coming over,” Beca said, her voice quiet as she carefully sat down on the sofa, Maddy still in her arms.
“Of course, Bec. I promised you that I’d be here if you needed me, and I meant it,” Chloe said.
“I think she’s teething or something. She’s been screaming like that all night, and nothing I was doing was working and I just… I needed a break. It kills me when she cries like that. I feel so useless. She’s so upset and I can’t do anything to help her. I can’t… I can’t do this Chlo’. I don’t know what I’m doing.” Beca’s voice broke slightly as tears filled her eyes again.
“Hey,” Chloe said, softly. “You’re doing great, Beca. She’s a happy healthy baby and she loves you.”
Beca let out a huff of a laugh and wiped her eyes with the hand that wasn’t holding Maddy against her chest.
“I didn’t… I didn’t think it would be this hard. When Jesse left I thought… I really thought I could do it on my own, not that I had a choice. I don’t think I can do it on my own anymore.”
Maddy stirred in her arms and Beca fell silent, freezing in place to see if she would wake up and start screaming again.
“I’m gonna go put her to bed,” Beca said when Maddy settled again.
Chloe watched as Beca carefully stood up and carried her into the bedroom, only to hear the sounds of Maddy crying again almost immediately.
“Okay,” she heard Beca say, resignation in her voice. “Okay, I’m here. I’ve got you.”
Beca returned a few minutes later, Maddy still held in her arms, a tiny fist clutching her shirt, her sobs beginning to die out again.
“I guess she’s not going back in the crib yet,” Beca said, sitting back down.
“She clearly loves her Mama so much that she doesn’t want to be away from her,” Chloe said, feeling that same warmth in her chest that she got every time she saw her best friend be a parent.
“I wish she could express that in a quieter, less soul-destroying way,” Beca said, closing her eyes briefly as she let her cheek rest against the top of Maddy’s head. “I love her so much. I was trying to think if there was anything I wouldn’t do for her, and there isn’t. It makes me wonder… Did my Mom feel this way about me? And if she did, when did she stop? And what if I stop feeling it for Maddy?”
“You aren’t your Mom,” Chloe said. “You are going to love and protect that little girl until you physically can’t do it anymore.”
“How do you know that?” Beca asked. Her voice was quieter and the fear in it was so much clearer. “What if one day I do something or say something, and it hurts her so bad that she’ll carry it with her forever? What if I do that again, and again until she’s… What if I make her like me?”
“Beca, you aren’t your Mom,” Chloe said again, her heart breaking at the fear in Beca’s voice.
“But it’s a cycle, isn’t it? My Grandma treated my Mom badly, so she treated me badly,” Beca said. “What if it’s all just inevitable?”
“Bullshit,” Chloe said, frowning. “Bec, you aren’t going to turn out like her, it isn’t inevitable. You’re aware of the cycle, so you can break it. You will break it.”
Beca sniffed and nodded, letting a few tears slip down her cheeks. “I wanna be a good Mom,” she said, her voice breaking again.
“You already are,” Chloe said.
“It’s,” Beca swallowed down the lump in her throat, “it’s so hard. I’m so tired all of the time, and I feel like I’m just making it up as I go along.” She wiped her eyes and shook her head. “I’m sorry. I called you up in the middle of the night to come and listen to my kid scream and me cry. You don’t have to stay, it’s late.”
“You can call me any time, you know that,” Chloe said. She swallowed and looked at the tired and defeated expression on her best friend’s face, and at the beautiful sleeping baby held protectively against her chest. It made something in her own chest ache, and then she felt a sudden flare of anger at Jesse.
Didn’t he realise what he’d run away from? What he’d given up?
“Beca, what if… What if I came to stay for a little while?”
“What do you mean?”
“Like… What if I moved in? I could help you with Maddy and then you wouldn’t have to do it all alone,” Chloe said. She gave a small shrug. “My lease is almost up on my apartment, and yours is closer to the veterinary clinic. Plus you already know I’m a good roommate.”
Beca smiled but still looked doubtful. “Why would you want to do that? You realise you’d never get another good night’s sleep again, right? Your life would suddenly become all about diapers, and crying, and… PAW Patrol.”
Chloe laughed softly. “That sounds like a pretty good life, you know?”
“Are you sure you want to do this?”
“100%,” Chloe said. “I’m not saying that you need help, because I think you’re doing an amazing job, but maybe you’d like some help? And if you do, I want to be the one to help you. Just because you’re a single Mom it doesn’t mean you have to do this all on your own.”
Beca smiled again, and her free hand found Chloe’s and squeezed.
“Thank you,” she said.
Chloe shook her head. “You don’t need to thank me. I think maybe I need this too. It can get kinda lonely in that apartment by myself.”
“I think Maddy and I can solve that for you,” Beca said, laughing as she kept her hand on Chloe’s. “You won’t get another moment to yourself for the foreseeable future.”
“I can’t wait.”

BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5
Prompt: Single Parent
Two years ago, Beca Mitchell was twenty-five years old and had the world at her feet. She was an award-winning singer/songwriter/ producer. And up until about eighteen months ago, she couldn't think of anything that she would change. Shortly after that, she decided she wanted to make her dream of being a mom a reality.
Beca had come out as bi to her parents when she was just fourteen; even though she had a stronger preference for girls, she never came out as totally gay.
Beca wasn't into guys enough to want to have sex with one just to get pregnant, nor was she going to have sex with a stranger just to get pregnant. So, since most guys were out, Beca did the next best thing and went the IVF route. She was lucky and fell pregnant on the first try.
Now, six months after giving birth, she decided it was time to get into the studio. The studio was only a four-block walk, so she strapped Dylan in his fold-up stroller and made her way to work.
Once they arrived at the building that housed the studio, Beca decided to remove Dylan from the stroller so she wouldn't have to worry about others on the elevator bumping into the stroller or Dylan. She was struggling to fold the stroller with one hand and stood back from the doors to allow others to enter and exit without them bumping into her or her bumping into them.
"Jesus Christ," Beca mumbled. "How fucking hard can this be?"
She grimaced when she looked down at the chubby face of 6-month-old Dylan.
"Sorry, dude," Beca muttered. "I shouldn't be saying that kind of word around you. It's just this dam-darned stroller doesn't want to cooperate."
Dylan cooed and giggled as Beca continued to struggle with closing the stroller with one hand.
"Oh, you think that's funny, huh?" Beca said, smiling. "It's a good thing you're that cute."
"Do you need a hand?" a voice suddenly asked.
"Oh, um, thank you," Beca said, looking into the kind eyes of a male stranger.
"These things are tricky," the man said, taking the stroller. "My wife and I both had trouble with closing one of these without the other's help. We have three kids now, and we've mastered doing some things on our own. Closing a supposedly easy folding stroller is one of them."
"They sure don't make things easy for someone on their own with a 6-month-old," Beca said, chuckling.
"They sure don't," the man said.
The man pushed the stroller by the handles, closing it. "Ah, there we go," he said, holding it toward Beca.
Beca shifted Dylan on her hip and took the stroller. "Thank you," Beca said. "It was very kind of you to help."
"My pleasure," the man said. "You two have a great day."
"You as well," Beca said as the man walked away.
"Now, let's go in and see if your mama can get some work done," Beca said as she sighed and kissed Dylan on the forehead.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
Beca didn't get much work done with Dylan there. Everyone just had to stop by her office to see Dylan since she had been working from home since he was born.
"Beca!" Emily Junk said as she entered Beca's office. She came to a sudden stop when she saw Dylan in Beca's arms. "I heard Dylan was here and had to come to see him for myself. Oh, my word, he's even more adorable than the last time I saw him. Can I hold him?"
Before Beca could answer, Dylan was reaching for Emily. Beca wasn't the least bit surprised that he went to Emily without any fuss. With her rather surly demeanor, she's not sure how he was becoming such a friendly kid.
"Who's a handsome boy?" Emily cooed, grabbing Dylan's hand and kissing his cheek. "You are, that's who."
Emily then held Dylan up and blew raspberries on his stomach. Dylan laughed and tried to push Emily away.
"Did you come in here for something, Em? Or are you just here to steal my kid?"
"What?" Emily asked, bringing Dylan back down to her hip. "Oh, sorry. I'm working on a song, and I thought you might have some time to help me."
"Um, I'll have to find someone to look after Dylan," Beca said. "He'll be nothing but a distraction if I keep him in here while we're working."
"Why don't you take him to the studio's daycare?" Emily said.
"The studio has a daycare?" Beca asked. "Why is this the first I've heard of it?"
"It just opened up like three months ago," Emily said. "And, it's free to any child of a studio employee."
"Wow," Beca said. "You'd think someone would have mentioned this new development to me since I, you know, have a kid now."
"Oops. I'm sorry," Emily said. "I was afraid if I told you, you'd come back sooner, and you said you wanted six months at home with Dylan before coming back to work in person."
Beca sighed and ran a hand through her hair. "I did say that, didn't I?"
"Yes, you did," Emily said. "Now come with me, and I'll introduce you to Chloe. She owns and operates the daycare. You'll like her; she's really nice. And she's great with the kids, too."
"Fine," Beca huffed, taking Dylan. "Let's go."
Beca settled Dylan on her hip, then grabbed his diaper bag, hooking it over her shoulder.
Seeing the frown on Beca's face, Emily turned to her, saying, "Stop frowning, Beca. Chloe will take good care of Dylan. You'll have nothing to worry about as long as he's with her."
"I'm sure she's great," Beca said. "It's just, I haven't let anyone I don't know watch Dylan because I don't trust people easily."
"He'll be fine," Emily said. "And I hate to keep repeating myself, but you have nothing to worry about regarding Chloe."
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
Beca stood outside the daycare, staring in through a huge glass window. She could see a couple of kids running around.
"Wait, is that Stacie's little girl, Bella?" Beca asked Emily, pointing out the young toddler.
"Yep," Emily said. "Stacie brings her here because Chloe charges reasonable rates, and it's only two blocks from her yoga studio."
"Hmm," Beca hummed. "I wonder why she didn't tell me about the daycare opening up here."
"She probably figured someone else told you," Emily said. "And, again, I'm sorry I didn't tell you."
"Maybe we should go in," Beca said. "That redhead is staring at me like I'm some kind of creep."
Emily looked through the window and waved to the redhead. The redhead smiled and waved back at Emily.
"That's Chloe," Emily said, opening the door and holding it for Beca. "Come on."
Beca entered and waited for Emily to step inside next to her.
"Hello, Emily," the redhead said. "Who do we have here?"
"Beca works for the studio and wants to leave Dylan with you while we get some work done," Emily said. "Is that okay?"
"That's perfectly fine," Chloe said, looking at Emily and then moving her gaze to Beca.
"Oh, where are my manners?" Emily said. "Let me introduce you two. Beca, this is Chloe Beale. She owns and runs the daycare. Chloe, this is Beca Mitchell, a Senior Music Producer, and songwriter. She's the one that helped me with my song Flashlight."
"Oh, I remember you telling me about that," Chloe said. "It's a pleasure to finally meet you, Miss Mitchell."
"It's, uh, it's nice to meet you, too," Beca said, looking around. "How exactly does this work?"
Chloe went over and picked up a clipboard from a nearby desk.
"Well," Chloe said. "I'll need you to fill out this form. Please be thorough in your responses; it helps me learn about your child, so there aren't any surprises later."
"Oh, um, okay," Beca said, turning to Emily. "Em, could you hold Dylan while I fill out the forms?"
"I'd love to," Emily said, taking Dylan.
Chloe handed the clipboard and a pen to Beca. "I'll also need the contact information for your husband. Especially if he'll be picking Dylan up or dropping him off."
"Beca doesn't have a husband," Emily said as she tickled Dylan's side. "She's single."
Beca glared at Emily. Emily didn't notice since she was focused on Dylan.
"Oh," Chloe said. "Will you be having someone else picking up Dylan? If so, I'll need their contact info as well."
"Um, I don't know," Beca said. "I suppose I will, I just don't know who it might be. Can I get that info to you later?"
"That's fine," Chloe said. "We are open from six a.m. to six p.m., Monday through Friday. If you think you'll be later than six, just call, and I can make arrangements to stay a little later."
"Doesn't that bother your husband?" Beca asked. "I mean not knowing what time you'll be coming home."
"Chloe's single, too," Emily said. "I've invited her to come to some of our girls' nights, but she's said no every time. You should start going out with us again, Beca. It's not the same without you."
"Kind of hard to do when anyone I'd trust to watch Dylan will be out with you," Beca said.
"Maybe we can plan a night in at your place," Emily suggested. "You've got the biggest place of all of us."
"I'll think about it," Beca said.
"And Chloe could come, too," Emily said. "You'd come, wouldn't you, Chloe?"
"I don't know, Emily," Chloe said. "I don't really know anyone but you."
"You know Stacie," Emily said. "And, now you know Beca. Live a little. Come hang out at Beca's with us."
"I haven't said yes, Em," Beca said.
"You will," Emily said. "If not, you know Stacie will let Fat Amy unleash the Kraken on you."
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
Two weeks later, Beca had agreed to have everyone over for a girl's night in, and Emily had convinced Chloe to accept the invite to attend.
It was the day before the get-together, and Beca was dropping Dylan at daycare. Beca was getting Dylan settled, and Chloe asked to speak with her before she left.
Dylan was settled in the crib. Beca saw that Chloe was sitting at her desk, so Beca walked over to her.
"What's up?" Beca asked.
"I was wondering if I could bring a friend to your place for girl's night?" Chloe asked.
"You want to bring a date?"
"Not a date," Chloe said quickly. "I forgot I had made plans with my best friend Aubrey, and I really want to come to your, uh, to the girl's night thing, so I thought I'd invite her to come with me. If that's okay with you."
"You're adorable," Beca muttered, then blushed and cleared her throat. "Um, sure. I don't see any problem with you bringing your friend."
Chloe squealed and jumped up, grabbing Beca in a hug. "Thank you."
Beca awkwardly patted Chloe on the back before slightly pulling away. She looked at Chloe, and Chloe looked at her. Beca looked down at Chloe's lips, and Beca could swear Chloe looked down at hers.
"Um," Beca said, clearing her throat. "I should get to work."
"Oh, right," Chloe said, stepping away from Beca. "I'll, um, see you later."
Beca walked over to the crib where Dylan was lying and picked him up. She kissed his cheek.
"See you later, little dude."
Dylan cooed and waved his arms as Beca smiled at him. She put him back in the crib and turned to Chloe.
"I'll see you later, too," Beca said before walking out the door.
Once Beca was out of sight, Chloe fanned her face and plopped down in her desk chair.
"Oh, my god, she is so hot," Chloe mumbled.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
A few hours later, Beca was working in the studio with Emily.
"How was that?" Emily asked from the booth.
Beca didn't respond or look up. Emily sighed and came out of the booth and stood in front of Beca. She put her hands on her hips and cleared her throat, getting Beca's attention.
"What?" Beca asked, lifting her head to look up at Emily.
"What is wrong with you today?" Emily asked. "You seem distracted. Are you okay?"
"I think I like Chloe," Beca blurted out and then covered her mouth. "Forget I just said that."
"Oh, my gosh," Emily squealed. "That's so great. I think she likes you, too."
"I doubt that," Beca scoffed.
"I'm serious, Beca," Emily said. "I've seen the way she looks at you. I think you should ask her out. You two would be so good together."
"How do you know she's not seeing someone?" Beca asked. "Or that she's into women?"
"I don't," Emily said. "But, I'm sure if you asked her out and she is seeing someone or isn't into women, she'd let you down gently. I'm also sure she's interested in you and will say yes."
"But, how can you be so sure she'd say yes?"
"Oh, my God! Do I have to call Stacie and Fat Amy in on this?"
"No! Don't call them or tell them," Beca said, running a hand through her hair. She sighed and added, "I'll ask her."
"Yay!" Emily said, clapping her hands and bouncing up and down.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
It was almost six, and Chloe was getting Dylan ready for Beca.
"There we go, cutie," Chloe said, smiling as she picked Dylan up. "Your mama should be here any minute."
There was a soft knock on the door, and Emily poked her head in.
"Hey, Chloe," Emily said. "Beca's tied up with something and asked me to pick up Dylan, so you don't have to stay late."
"Oh," Chloe said, trying not to sound too disappointed. "Well, he's all ready to go."
"Thanks," Emily said, noticing Chloe's disappointment. "Are you okay?"
"What?" Chloe said. "Oh, I'm fine. I was hoping I'd see Beca. There was something I wanted to ask her."
Emily smiled. "I have an idea."
Chloe furrowed her brow as Emily started telling Chloe her idea. She was smiling by the time Emily was done.
"I'm in," Chloe said, hugging Emily.
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
Beca finished the track she was working on and saved her work. She looked toward the door when she heard a soft knock.
"Come on in, Em," Beca called out.
"Sorry," Chloe said as she entered Beca's office with Dylan on her hip. "Emily had to leave, so I thought I'd bring Dylan to you and save you the trip downstairs."
Beca smiled as she stood and walked over to Chloe, taking Dylan from her.
"You do know I practically have to walk by the daycare to get out of the building, right?"
"Oh, really?" Chloe said. "I guess I wasn't thinking straight."
"It's okay," Beca said. "I was hoping to see and talk to you before tomorrow."
"I was hoping to talk to you, too," Chloe said.
"Would you like to go out with me?" Beca and Chloe both blurted out.
"I'd love to," came the response from both, causing them to laugh.
"Let me," Beca said, raising her hand to stop Chloe from speaking again. "I know it's short notice, but would you like to go to dinner with Dylan and me tonight?"
Chloe looked at Dylan and asked, "What do you think, Dylan? Should I join you and your mama for dinner?"
Dylan giggled and started waving his arms.
"I'll take that as a yes," Chloe giggled and grinned as she looked at Beca. "It looks like I'll be joining you two for dinner."
~ BeChloe Week 2022 - Day 5 ~
Six months later, just after Dylan's first birthday, Beca and Chloe were still going strong. Their friends were so used to seeing the three of them together that they all thought Chloe had moved in with Beca.
The girls were surprised when, during their next girl's night at Beca's, Chloe broke the news.
"I'm moving in with Beca and Dylan," Chloe told the group.
"I thought you already lived here," Stacie said, furrowing her brows.
"We all thought you had already moved in," Emily said. "We hardly see one of you without the other."
"If I hadn't been to your place so much and seen you," Aubrey said, "I would have thought you already lived here as well."
"Yeah, well, now it's official," Beca said. "And Chloe will be moving in next Saturday. So, you're all invited over for a welcome home party for her."
"A welcome come home party?" Fat Amy asked.
"Yeah," Beca said. "It feels more like a home when Chloe's here, so a welcome home party is in order."
"I love you," Chloe said, kissing Beca. "Thank you."
"I love you, too," Beca said, pulling Chloe back for another kiss.
Dylan started babbling in Emily's arms.
"Get used to it, Dyl," Emily said, rocking Dylan back and forth. "I have a feeling your mama and Chloe are going to be doing that a lot around here."
Dylan giggled and put his fist in his mouth.
