Are Trans Women welcome?

Yes. They are Women.

Do I need to lose weight before I train in Martial Arts?

Many people have either directly or indirectly asked me variations of this. You can start training in Martial Arts at any age and weight is not a factor in if you can Start.

Am I too old to start?

Age is not a factor in starting Martial Arts.

Do I need to get fit before I start training Martial Arts?

Fitness is not a factor in starting Martial Arts training. Just go to the beginner classes.

What Martial Arts should I do?

Go to a few trial classes from different styles and with different groups and pick the one with which you feel the most connected. Compare prices, teachers, students, and cleanliness of the training area.

Make sure there are some more advanced students as this means people have stayed with the organization and progressed in their training or they moved to the area and chose this organization to train. Make sure the organization does not guarantee any level of a belt after a specific period of time-rough estimates are okay but any kind of guarantee sends up red flags that this place is in it for the money since everyone progresses at different rates. Also make sure that their belt system complies with the overall belt system for that Martial Arts style and doesn’t have added levels in between belts (BJJ does have levels in between belts, but not every Martial Art style is like that).

You should do the Martial Arts with which you feel the most connection. Try out the different styles available in your area. Make sure you feel comfortable around the teachers and other students and that the money rates are something that work for you. Make sure the organization is not a McDojo.

If you have any mental/physical limits then speak to the teacher beforehand and quietly sit out if there is something you cannot do.

If you have parents that disapprove because you are a girl or they are worried about it, try ‘gentler’ Martial Arts like Aikido, Women’s self defense, or Tai Chi-they are just as effective but don’t look as scary/aggressive as other styles.

How do you motivate yourself/how do I stay motivated?

I set aside time on multiple days during the week to exercise and train. Everyone’s motivation is different, so figure out what motivates you and make that your goal. My motivation is to master different Martial Arts disciplines, because I find most other exercises boring after a while or when I reach a certain physical strength/endurance level, because there is nowhere to go except to add another set or do more reps. In Martial Arts, it’s a learning process because you can do more advanced moves when you master more basic moves or simpler versions of advanced moves in order to be able to do the advanced form of a move or technique.

I have limited income but I still want to learn Martial Arts!

Lots of people on my blog have suggested/found success with talking to the Martial Arts instructor about prices. You can also check with any colleges in your area for student clubs that meet to train.

It’s difficult to get to training/I don’t have time to go/how do I learn Martial Arts all by myself with no formal training?

If it’s difficult to get to training you could go less often and practice what you learned in class until you can go to class again. If you want to learn Martial Arts then make the time for it. You can’t learn any Martial Arts without an instructor in the discipline, you will injure yourself, you will “learn” the moves incorrectly as well as bad habits, you won’t get feedback on what you’re doing wrong and what you’re doing well/correctly. I can’t go to the gym for xyz reason! What do I do?

Exercise at home. You can buy weights or resistance bands and do bodyweight exercises, yoga, or aerobic exercises. You can also exercise outside if possible.

I want to start working out! What do I do?

Experiment with different types of exercise to see what you do and don’t like doing. You should also try going to Martial Arts beginner classes to see which ones you like, as those will get you into shape while teaching you valuable self defense and life lessons.

Why do my muscles hurt?

Your muscles burn during exercise because of a build up of lactic acid-during exercise your body uses oxygen to break down glucose for energy. When there is not enough oxygen available your body produces lactate which can be broken down for energy without oxygen-this causes lactic acid. It is best to take a break and focus on breathing when this happens until the burning sensation subsides.

After exercising, it is believed there are microscopic tears in your muscles that cause muscle soreness while they heal. It is best to take rest days to allow these muscles to recover and heal from the exercise.

Why is this submitted post tagged NSFW?

I do not know why the submitter of the post tagged it NSFW. I do not edit the tags of the posts submitted to my blog, the only thing I change about submitted posts is to @ the person that submitted it if they did not do so. I would appreciate it if people would stop antagonizing me and the submitters over it, as in the past the submitters have felt the need to apologize to ME for “causing” the trouble, when really the people who should be apologizing are the ones causing the fuss.

15 Nov – Applications close. 22 Nov – Santas assigned. 27 Nov – Santas confirm assignments. 25 Dec to 31 Dec – Post the gifts! 5 Jan 2020 – Tell me if you didn’t get your gift. 9 Jan 2020 – Backup santas notified. 31 Jan 2020 – Backup santa gifts posted!

The close of each day is 11:59pm HKT (GMT + 8h). Please note that my timezone is ahead of most countries.

How do I join?

To enter, you must read the rules and complete the application form linked on the rules page.

You must send in the application form before 15th NOVEMBER 2019 at 11:59pm HKT (GMT+8h).

If you apply, please commit to creating and giving a gift.

What’s this password thing you have in the application? What password?

If you don’t know the password, please read the entire rules page carefully from top to bottom. For easy reference, here’s a link to the rules and the mobile-friendly rules.

Applications with an incorrect password will be rejected during santa/ giftee assignments, even if applicants received the response email.

Oh no! I made a mistake in my application form/ I got the password wrong/ I left out something. What do I do?

You can edit your application anytime before applications close on 15 November 2019 (2359h HKT). You should have received a response email with the edit link.

I made a typo on my password. Will I be rejected/ do I need to edit my application?

Nah, that’s fine, I’m willing to accept typos. Your application will get denied if the answer clearly shows that you don’t know the password.

Who sees the information I put in my application?

The middle section with your preferences will be copy-pasted and sent word-for-word to your santa. Your santa will also get your tumblr URL/ username. If you addressed any comments to your santa in your miscellaneous comment section, I’ll pass those along too.

Only the mods will see your email and other details. For now, that’s only me (@codedredalert) and @narramin. Since the volume of work got overwhelming, I got her on board as a mod.

She’s a close friend I trust, and while I don’t think we’ll have anyone else joining us as a moderator, If you’re very concerned about other people finding out about your email address and other application details, maybe give this event a miss.

What do I have to do when I post my gift?

Mention the name of your giftee in the post (like this: @url). Also mention @opsecretsanta2019 in the post.

Tag #opsecretsanta2019 and any appropriate compulsory warning tags (#n/sfw, #graphic violence, #major character death, #noncon or dubcon, #underage , #chose not to use warnings , #no warnings apply).

Consider writing a nice message to the giftee to go along with the gift, if you like.

How do you select Secret Santas?

I sort participants by naughty and nice into a SFW group and a NSFW group. After that, both groups are separately put through a random generator. Once giftees are drawn from the generator, I will manually check to make sure santas/ giftees share at least one mutual interest.

You should not be giving to the same person you’re receiving from.

What does it mean if I’m in the NSFW group?

If you choose NSFW, it means you are okay with making or receiving NSFW content AND are at least 21 years of age.

You do not have to create a NSFW gift if you don’t feel like it. You may or may not receive a NSFW gift.

Can I make/ receive NSFW?

To potentially receive or send NSFW material, you must be 21 years or older when applications close on 15 November 2019 2359h.

If you make something NSFW for your giftee, please put it under a read more and tag it appropriately. If your NSFW gift is/ could be flagged, please post it on another site and provide a link in a tumblr post.

Why must I be 21+ to receive/ give NSFW? I’m an adult in my country.

I don’t want drama/ legal issues about adults sending NSFW to minors. 21 is the highest age of majority as far as I’m aware, so that’s what I set it as to cover everyone. Sorry, kiddo.

I’m not 21+ yet but I will be by the time applications close. Can I still say I’m 21+?

What is considered NSFW?

NSFW components for the purposes of this event (loosely based on the R rating guidelines of the Motion Picture Association of America):

(1) Violence: Canon-typical depictions of violence are generally SFW (eg. brawls, blood, stabbing). However, violence that is detailed, realistic, extreme or persistent would make a work NSFW.

(2) Language/ Profanity / Swearing: Generally, swearing is SFW, but you’re encouraged to keep it mild. You have a maximum of one (1) singular “fuck” to give in a SFW work. Use it wisely. Excessive or extremely graphic swearing would make a work NSFW.

(3) Drugs/ Substance Abuse:

Canon-typical depiction of smoking is SFW (eg. chain smoking or smoking several cigarettes/cigars at once is SFW). However, smoking/ nicotine addiction that is detailed, realistic, extreme or persistent would make a work NSFW.

Canon-typical drinking of large amounts of alcohol is SFW. However, alcoholism/ alcohol addiction that is detailed, realistic, extreme or persistent would make a work NSFW.

Mention of drugs used in a medical context is SFW. Otherwise, any drug use or mention of drug use would make a work NSFW.

(4) Nudity and sexual content:

Nudity that is depicted visually (eg. art) is NSFW, regardless of whether it is sexual or not. Please post a censored/ partial preview of the art and link the full piece on another site. (Tumblr might flag it otherwise lol.)

Non-visual nudity (eg. writing) is NSFW if it is sexually-oriented. Please ensure that it is under a read-more.

All sexual content is NSFW regardless of medium.

Hugs, kisses and cuddling are SFW.

Can I opt to be in the NSFW list, but still say I don’t want to receive/ create a certain type of NSFW (eg. specifically not sexual content, or drug abuse)?

Yup! Generally, giving more information in your application is better. It’s good to be clear and upfront about your likes and dislikes. It helps me a lot in deciding if I need to re-roll when I double-check your random match. It helps your santa know what not to give you too.

Is ____ pairing/ content/ gen allowed?

As long as they’re canon One Piece characters, yes. This event aims to be as inclusive as possible. Just make sure you tag appropriately.

Are OCs/ self-insert/ Y/N fic allowed?

Sorry, nope. I’m sure you and your OCs are lovely, however, this is a One Piece event, so please only feature canon One Piece characters.

You CAN sneak in a little extra cameo if you really want. Eg. a random person in the background/ a random shopkeeper in your fic. But the focus must be on canon One Piece characters.

I personally consider ____ content problematic. Will you allow it?

The compulsory warning tags (following those on Ao3) generally cover a wide range of potentially offensive content. Please be responsible for your own content regulation by blacklisting the necessary tags. I cannot be responsible for everyone’s content consumption.

I’m personally triggered by _____. Can you tag it?

Your personal triggers will already be accounted for in the application form and the information sent to your santa. So, this shouldn’t be a problem for your gift. Also, there are the compulsory warning tags for you to blacklist if necessary.

If you think there is still a very high chance that other people’s gifts will have your trigger, send me an ask off-anon proposing (1) a feasible identification system and (2) a tag name. We’ll see if we can work something out.

I promise to hear you out. However, I will exercise my discretion as to whether it is feasible for me to impose your request on every post on this blog. If your request requires a moral judgment or a lot of work on my part, I am less likely to impose your request.

It’s not possible for me to please everyone. I’ve done my best to cover the generally-accepted warnings. Thanks in advance for your understanding.

What kinds of gifts are allowed?

Anything digital as long as you personally created it for your giftee!

SUGGESTED minimum guidelines for different types of content are below (feel free to go above and beyond if your heart desires):

– Art – 1 artwork, sketches are okay as long as characters are recognisable

– AMVs – 30 seconds. Please use only official art/ anime/ movies as your base.

– Animations – 3 seconds, sketches are okay as long as characters are recognisable

– Animatics – 30 seconds, sketches are okay as long as characters are recognisable

– Edits – 2 edits of good image quality. Please use only official art as your base.

– Fanfiction – 100 words (prose), 20 words (poetry)

– GIFsets – 2 gifs of good image quality. Please use only official art/ anime/ movies as your base.

– Music cover – 1 minute. Please cover only official One Piece songs/ motifs.

– Playlist – 10 songs. Please try to find out about your giftee’s music taste and cater to that if possible.

– Podfic/ audio reading – You MUST get permission in writing from the fic author before making the recording. In your recording, you MUST clearly state the original author, the title of the original fic, and the website where the original fic can be found. In your post, you MUST give LINKED credit to both the original author AND the original fic.

Do I need to meet a minimum for my gift?

There are suggested minimum guidelines for different types of content, but there are no strict minimums. The gift creation for this event is intended to be very achievable, stress-free, and accessible even to first-time creators.

Do I have to follow a winter theme in the gift?

Nope. Anything goes! Just try to do something you think your giftee would like according to the information you were given.

Can I send something in the mail?

Sorry, please don’t. This exchange is digital-only.

If you applied on time, but did not receive a giftee assignment, please contact me.

When should I send my gift to my Secret Santa?

Any time on or between 25 December 2019 and 31 December 2019.

Can I let my giftee know who I am?

Only once you post your gift. In other words, yes but not earlier than 25 December 2019.

Can I contact my giftee to clarify things about the gift?

Yes but you cannot reveal your identity before you post your gift (eg. use anon asks). If you can’t contact your giftee via tumblr, just do your best with the information you have.

What if my giftee doesn’t have anon asks on/ doesn’t respond?

If you can’t contact your giftee anonymously via tumblr, just do your best with the information you have. Most people wrote detailed applications, so this should be workable.

If giftees are feeling up to it, consider keeping anon asks open for the duration of this event so santas can make clarifications if they need to. It might mean that the gift turns out more to your personal taste.

Can the mods contact my giftee to ask things for me?

We’d love to but we can’t afford to take on the extra workload of being the go-between for everyone’s giftee questions.

You will get your giftee’s tumblr URL. Feel free to check out your giftee’s tumblr and see if they accept anon asks. Please respect their personal rules on interacting if you send asks.

Oops! Something has come up and I can’t participate!

If you have to drop out, please do it before 15 November 2019 if possible. I want to make sure every participant receives a gift.

If you have to drop out after 15 November 2019, please send me an ask. I will assign backup santas.

Yup! As long as you communicate and post according to the timelines, it’s okay.

How many mods are there?

Two. The older posts like this one use mostly “I”, since I started this event alone, but beacuse of the number of participants and the workload I got another person on board.

My art/ writing/ main is @codedredalert, and the second mod’s writing/ cursed/ main is @narramin.

Have you, the mods, ever run an event like this before?

Nope. I, Red, have participated in maybe two. Take that as you will.

Suggestions and advice from experienced people are welcome! I may not be able to use/ implement them in this event, but the learning is appreciated.

Are you, the mods, going to be participating as a giftee/ santa? I want a chance to get content from you/ give you things.

The process might differ slightly depending on your device. For instance, if you are using a Macbook, you’ll need to click the “Surfshark” tab and go to “preferences” to access the kill switch.

Another way of solving the “error connecting to server” message is by clearing your DNS cache. These files hoard a lot of information, some of which may be outdated and responsible for your connectivity issues.

Additionally, Omegle might utilize your previous DNS entries to block your VPN from accessing the service.

Step 1: Run Command Prompt as an administrator.

Step 2: Type and enter the following commands one after the other:

ipconfig /flushdns

ipconfig /registerdns

ipconfig /release

ipconfig /renew

netsh winsock reset Cmake makefile.

Step 3: Exit CMD and restart your device.

From my experience, simply trying different servers should help you fix the issue. I also had success using combing Surfshark with a new browser.

But if none of the above solutions work for you, I suggest you contact customer support. They may be able to help you pick a good performing server that isn’t blacklisted.

While using a VPN with Omegle will improve your anonymity and secure your chats, other dangers exist, including predation, nudity, and social catfish.

Omegle is blocked in several countries, including China, Pakistan, Qatar, and the UAE. Still, you can circumvent government geo-restrictions and access Omegle using an obfuscated VPN.

Fix 1: Clear your browser cache

Web browsers use cache and cookies to store information necessary to load a website, so that it effectively reduces the loading time. But the problem is, sometimes the information may be outdated or otherwise incorrect, causing the page not opening error (in this case, Omegle not connecting). So you should clear your browser cache to see if it fixes the issue.

Here’s how to clear cache on Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox and Mac Safari:

How to clear cache on Google Chrome

On your Google Chrome browser, press the Ctrl, Shift and Delete keys on your keyboard at the same time.

Choose a time range that you want to clear the cache, then check the Cache images and files box and click Clear data.

Now with all your cached data on your Google Chrome browser removed, reload Omegle and see if the connecting to the server error has been resolved. If yes, then congrats! If the issue persists, please jump toFix 2.

How to clear cache on Mozilla Firefox

In Firefox, click the menu icon and click Options.

Click Privacy & Security > Clear Data….

Now with all your cached data on your Firefox browser removed, reload Omegle and see if the connecting to the server error has been resolved. If yes, then congrats! If the issue persists, please move on to Fix 2.

How to clear cache on Mac

In Safari, click Safari > Preferences.

Click Privacy > Manage Website Data….

Click Remove All. Then click Remove Now once the confirmation window pops up. Finally, click Done.

Now with all your cached data on Safari removed, reload Omegle and see if the connecting to the server error has been resolved. If yes, then congrats! If the issue persists, please move on to Fix 2, below.

Fix 2: Flush DNS and renew your IP

Overtime, your computer will automatically cache IP address and other domain name system results. This is usually fine because it helps speed up subsequent requests to the same domain. But sometimes the results may have gone incorrect or outdated, hence the connection error. So you should flush your DNS and reset your IP to make sure your computer communicates with the hosts correctly.

To flush your DNS:

On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo Key and type cmd. Then right-click Command Prompt when it comes up as a result and select Run as administrator.

When prompted for permission, click Yes to run Command Prompt.

Type ipconfig /flushdns and press Enter on your keyboard.

To renew your IP:

On your keyboard, press the Windows Logo Key and type cmd. Then right-click Command Prompt when it comes up as a result and select Run as administrator.

When prompted for permission, click Yes to run Command Prompt.

Type ipconfig /release and press Enter on your keyboard.

Type ipconfig /renew and press Enter on your keyboard.

Refresh Omegle and see if it connects properly. If yes, then congrats! If it’s still not working, please move on to Fix 3, below.

Fix 3: Restart your network

The Omegle not connecting to the server issue may be a glitch caused by your router. So you can restart your network to see if it fixes the issue.

Here is how to do it:

Unplug your modem (and your wireless router, if it’s a separate device) from the power socket.

Wait 60 seconds for your modem (and your wireless router) to cool off.

Plug the network devices back in again and wait until the indicator lights are back to the normal state.

Check Omegle to see if it opens properly. If yes, then you’ve solved the issue. If it still doesn’t help, please try Fix 4, below.

Fix 4: Use a VPN

Sometimes the Omegle not connecting to the server issue happens because the network you’re connected to is restricted in your region. In this case, you can use a VPN to work around this problem.

A VPN (Virtual Private Network) is a service that re-routes your Internet data through a dedicated server, hides your real IP address and tricks your ISP and Omegle into thinking that you’re browsing from a different location (hence bypassing the ban).

Hello, I'm jewish and I consider myself an atheist but open minded to other religions and if I do this become a Lokean it's a big deal for me and I swear I think Loki is sending me messages, and there's a part of me that wants to become a Lokean because I want to be closer to him. So my question is, is there a process I must go through?

Welcome!

Pre-Christian Norse religion didn’t really have any kind of conversion process as far as we know. The baseline assumption was that there were a bunch of different gods that different peoples worshiped, and so adding more was less of a big deal than it is in a monotheistic religion. If you wanted to start worshiping another, you just added them to your prayers and household shrine and continued going about your business.

We even have accounts of families adding Jesus right alongside their Old Gods, as much as that kind of misses the point of orthodox Christianity.

Today, there’s not really any widespread formal process either. Partly because of the historical mentality, and partly because our religion is really decentralized. There’s no single organization that runs all of Heathenry. Some groups do require an initiation of some kind, but that tends to be very specific to the individual group. And it often deals more with your relationship to that set of people than your relationship to the religion as a whole.

So it’s mostly down to you and satisfying your individual spiritual and intellectual needs. Our reading list, particularly the “General Heathenry and Norse Myth” section, links to a bunch of suggestions for solid books and articles where you shouldn’t have to deal with any white nationalist garbage. And our FAQ walks you through some spiritual stuff you could consider experimenting with if you feel you’re ready for that. (You’ll need to be on desktop to open those links.)

Heathenry doesn’t demand belief in the gods as real personal beings. There are a significant number of Heathens who treat the gods as personifications of natural forces or as Jungian archetypes. I’d probably even label myself as agnostic if pressed to spell out my beliefs. So no one’s going to come after you for experimenting with ritual without 100% believing in the gods you’re calling upon.

You could also search for a local group to help walk you through things. Social media, Witchvox, Meetup,and your local UU church are all useful places to look. But due to the aforementioned white nationalist problem and widespread anti-Loki sentiment, it’s not really something I’d recommend that a Lokean or a Jewish person try before feeling pretty confident about what red flags to look for. For safety’s sake, always vet the group’s website and/or social media page, and try to meet in a public place when meeting them for the first time.

What’s a Lokean?

A Lokean is someone who honors Loki as their primary deity (or at least one of their primary deities if they have multiple) and chooses to identify as Lokean. Beyond that, there are no special requirements.

What’s the purpose of this blog? Why does it exist?

I would give you kids a dramatic backstory, but in full honesty I just thought it would be useful if new Lokeans had resources I (Mod R) didn't have when I was new to the community. Plus, there's a little bit of stigma around Lokeans, and it's good to have a space of our own, yeah?

We’re here to welcome you guys and help you with your beginner work! We’re like the Lokean Professor Oak.

How cool is the Lokean Welcoming Committee?

Moderate-to-severely cool.

You worship Loki? Isn’t Loki evil?

Nope. He’s not evil. He’s also not the God of evil. The Norse didn’t really have the same concept of absolute good and evil as we do now. Loki is far more complex than you might have realized. Most modern devotees view him as a vital agent of change.

Important note: Lokeans do not believe that everyone needs to worship Loki. Most Lokeans are polytheists, which means that respect for a wide variety of worldviews and a wide variety of gods is built into our belief system. Not a fan of Loki? That’s fine! The vast majority of us just want to do our own thing in peace.

How do I start this Lokean business?

Weeell, first of all, you need to read up on Norse myths so you know all about what you’re getting into. If watching/reading Marvel comics and movies inspired you to look into this and you haven’t done your reading yet, just know that Norse mythology is vastly different from its depiction in the Marvel comics. Lucky for you kids, we have a reading list! We recommend that you start with all that stuff. You don’t have to be an expert on Norse mythology, you just have to have the basics down. You can learn more as you go!

Once you’re done with the reading, I recommend doing some of this stuff to start off:

Find ways to incorporate Loki into your everyday life

Pray. Tell him why you think he’s awesome and why you want to worship him. Or tell him what brought you to him. Or just tell him whatever’s on your mind. Make sure to take time to listen as well. You may or may not “hear back” from him, but spending time in contemplation is important and can lead to valuable insights. If prayer and connecting with the divine are new or difficult for you, these links on communication and discernment might help.

Make offerings. Mead and ale were traditional, if you’re of age and can get them, but even water or coffee will do. And there are a bunch of other options. They don’t even have to be food. If you’re most comfortable doing a scripted formal ritual, you can find posts on how to hold a blót here, here, and here. You can also check out our offerings tag for ideas.

Set up a shrine or altar. The Norse didn’t really have altars in the sense that modern pagans do, but nonetheless, a lot of devotees find it helpful to have a designated space for worship in their home. Here’s our introductory post on altars. We also have an altar tag with lots of tips and pictures of altars to draw inspiration from.

Talk to other devotees. Connecting with other people who share your beliefs is helpful and fulfilling in a lot of ways! But be careful, since Heathen spaces also tend to have neonazis lurking around. the @valkyriesquad has a list of non-folkish bloggers. @anothersusurrus maintains a list of Norse god devotees which includes a Loki category.

Keep exploring. You’ll grow as a person over time. Your life will go through a lot of changes. Inevitably, so will your practice. Don’t be afraid to try new things, or to abandon something that just isn’t working for you anymore. This post offers some suggestions along those lines.

What does “work with” mean?

People often say “work with” instead of worship/honor/etc.! Don't know why, but I say it because it sounds more casual!

An altar? Offerings? Why? What does that do?

Everyone enjoys gifts, but gifts were reaalllyyy important to the Norse. The gods already provide us gifts by helping to keep the world running, so we, as devotees, give offerings in return to acknowledge the gods’ hard work and affirm our continuing relationship with them. And altars serve as a place to leave those offerings as well as being a visible reminder of the gods. They also give people who don’t have access to a public temple or natural area a place to worship.

How do I leave offerings?

Put them somewhere. Leave them out for as long as you want (make sure you pick it up before it spoils or something). You can leave it out for minutes, hours, or days. Whatever you feel comfortable with. It isn’t required to be super formal and ritualistic. However, if you’re more comfortable with being formal and would like to perform a blót rite, then you can find a few different heathens explaining the basics of how they do theirs here, here, and here.

When you feel like it’s the right time to get rid of the item, dispose of it in one of the following ways:

throw it away

burn it (stay safe, y’all)

bury it

eat/drink it

throw it outside (in a place where it won’t kill anything or harm creatures)

whatever else you can think of that you feel comfortable with

What sort of offerings does Loki like?

From what I’ve gathered, he likes:

cinnamon

sweet things/candy

coffee (I think I’ve heard of him liking mocha as well)

just food in general, man

cake

alcohol ("When in doubt, Mead it out.")

plants associated with him

crystals associated with him

Seriously though, pretty much anything is fine

What if I can’t leave offerings due to (reasons)?

You don’t have to give offerings. It's your own practice, make it as you like/can. Just don’t be rude about it. (i.e. “I’m not leaving offerings because I think the Gods are beneath me” <- don’t say anything like that)

How do I set up an altar?

Take random items that you think the God/spirit the altar is for will enjoy. Arrange them in a decorative way somewhere. Bam, you’re done. You don’t have to have specific items. You don’t have to arrange things in a specific way. It’s not that particular. It’s your practice, you do what you are comfortable with.

Where do I put my altar?

Anywhere! On a table or window sill! In a drawer! In a basket! In a box! On the floor! On a dresser! Wherever you want/Wherever you can!

What if I can’t have an altar due to (reasons)?

You don’t have to have an altar, just like you don’t have to give offerings.

How do I talk to Loki?

There’s no single correct way to pray to Loki. Some individuals and kindreds might choose to follow a particular format every time. However, there’s no kind of universal mandate on how it should work anywhere in the surviving texts, and it’s not like we have an unbroken tradition to work from the way some other religions do. Basically, as long as you’re respectful, you’re good!

But a lot of people who ask us this question are actually wondering how you might hear Loki communicating with you. In which case, you have a few options.

Talking directly to gods/spirits is generally referred to as "having a godphone." But you don’t need a "godphone" to communicate. Some use divination, like tarot or runes. Some people hear back in dreams or through omens. Everyone’s different!

And really, you don’t need to hear anything back at all in order to worship Loki or call yourself a Lokean. Loki can still hear you just fine. Not hearing anything back doesn’t mean that you’re a lesser person or that you’re doing it wrong.

I heard some Lokeans practice magic! Will worshiping Loki grant me special powers?

It’s true that some Lokeans practice magic in a variety of different traditions. However, real witchcraft works nothing like it does in most popular movies or fictional stories. If casting the right spell or praying to the right god could grant you Hollywood-style superpowers, then society as a whole would be taking advantage of that, and our world would run very differently.

This isn’t to say you can’t practice magic if that’s something you’re interested in. Regardless of whether it actually works or not, it is a real thing that people do, and have done throughout human history. Just be aware that you’re not going to be able to recreate the stuff in Harry Potter.

Do Lokeans have to practice magic?

Nope. A lot of Lokeans don’t practice magic. Some don’t even believe magic works. Your practice is equally valid regardless.

Is (book) a good book to read?

Many books on Norse mythology generally make Loki out to be the god of evil and stuff like that.

If it says “Loki, the God of Evil and Chaos” when introducing Loki, it’s prooobably not gonna be a fantastic read. However, there are exceptions to the rule, and one of the mods will be glad to point you in the right direction should you ask!

(Here’s a list of books you should definitely avoid, though.)

I keep hearing something about "godspouses"? What's that about?

A godspouse is a person who has ritually married a deity. They can be any gender or orientation, as can the deity in question. Some godspouses function more or less like Christian nuns and treat the commitment as symbolic of their lifelong devotion. Others believe they have a romantic or sexual relationship with the deity in question.

Becoming a godspouse isn't required or expected in order to be a Lokean, nor does it make you better or more devoted than other devotees. It's simply one of many ways to define a personal relationship with Loki.

What does (weird term) mean?

Just like any other community, Pagan Tumblr has developed some of its own vocabulary. Plus, Heathenry has a bunch of weird words that come from Old Norse. Here are some common things we’ve seen newbies get tripped up on:

Blót - A Heathen ritual sacrifice. Don’t worry. It’s not, like, humans or anything these days. Most people use booze or blood from a butcher shop.

Blood Brothers - Loki and Odin as a pair, referring to the pact mentioned in Lokasenna. Also affectionately known as the “two man con” or, by particularly exasperated devotees, sometimes just “Them.”

Folkish - An adjective used to describe the belief that only people of Nordic descent should be allowed to worship the Norse gods. However, historical and archaeological evidence reveals that this wasn’t true back in the Viking Age. Many folkish Heathens are white supremacists, so you should approach anyone who identifies as such with extreme caution.

Fulltrúi - The Heathen equivalent of a neo-Wiccan “patron deity”, although they don’t function in quite the same way. Basically, it’s the primary god you worship, if you choose to focus on one god. (Many don’t.) The word translates roughly to “fully trusted one.”

GLE - Grumpy Lokean Elder. His blog has some awesome, scholarly resources.

Godphone - The ability to communicate with deities without divination or physical signs. Despite the name, it doesn’t usually work like an actual phone. See this post for more info.

Godspouse - A person who has “married” a deity. Some of them function more or less like Christian nuns. Others believe they have a romantic or sexual relationship with the deity in question.

Lore - The mythology, sagas, and other various historical and pseudo-historical writings about Norse religion.

Nokean - A silly person who is against the worship of Loki. They generally don’t know what they’re talking about and are just looking for reasons to exclude people (especially minorities.) Pay them no heed.

UPG - Unverified Personal Gnosis. Knowledge you’ve gained about a deity that isn’t (and perhaps can’t be) verified by the lore. If more than one person has the same UPG, it becomes SPG, Shared Personal Gnosis. Since UPG isn’t verified, it’s important not to treat it as hard facts.

This weird thing happened to me! Is it a sign from Loki?

Only you can determine whether to treat something as a sign or not. You know the context of the situation and your own personal symbolism way better than any stranger on the internet. Odds are, you also have slightly different criteria for what counts as sufficient proof than our mods. And that's okay.

Regardless, remember that you don't actually need a sign or a "calling" in order to worship Loki. If it's something you want to try, that's justification enough. By the same token, you're allowed to say no even if a god is calling you. It's your existence, and you get to decide who or what you're devoted to.
