One of the most powerful ideas I came across this year came from The Courage to Be Disliked by Kishimi and Koga, a book rooted in Adlerian psychology.
It challenges the belief that our past determines our present. Instead, it suggests that our actions are shaped by the goals we pursue—often unconsciously—in the present moment.
For example, staying in a job that feels wrong may not be about past trauma. It might be about a current goal, like avoiding change or protecting self-image. Even procrastination can be purposeful—perhaps a way to avoid failure, criticism, or uncomfortable growth.

The Moral Cognition Lab is Hiring a Lab Manager/Research Assistant
The Moral Cognition Lab along with the Moral Psychology Research Lab in the Department of Psychology at Harvard University jointly seek a full-time (35 hours a week) Lab Manager. The selected candidate will work closely with Principal Investigators (PI) Joshua Greene and Fiery Cushman as well as with the members of their labs. Responsibilities will include providing administrative support through managing lab finances, maintaining IRBs, scheduling lab meetings, and assisting with lab coordination. The selected candidate will also be responsible for assisting in recruiting subjects, collecting data, and performing statistical analysis. Ideal candidates will have a Bachelor's degree in psychology and possess excellent organizational and communication skills with a demonstrable ability to work well independently. Knowledge of and experience with programming (R or MATLAB) will be a plus. The candidate will have the opportunity to engage in independent research and attend seminars, colloquia, and other training that would prepare the candidate for graduate school in psychology or a related field. This is an initial one year position with renewal dependent upon the candidate and the PIs.

UCLA’s new Ph.D. in Behavioral Decision Research is now accepting online applications for Fall 2017 admission until January 6, 2017. This interdisciplinary Ph.D. program will include coursework in judgment and decision making, behavioral economics, choice architecture, research and statistical methods.
