Enjoy (;
You stepped into the SVU squad room, looking around at the major bustling and chaos of the room. You fidgeted with the hem of your shirt anxiously, biting your lips and nails as well. You were frozen. You couldn’t process it all. Your eyes then landed on a person who you knew could help.
Casey.
Casey had been the one to call you. She hadn’t told you much, only that you need to come to svu immediately. You had dropped work for this. Left straightaway. It all made you extremely anxious. Why would they need you…? Unless…
You shook the terrible thoughts coming up out of your mind, instead springing into action. You walked up to Casey in the middle of the chaos.
“Hey Case!” You called to the redhead who was swiftly fluttering through pages.
Casey jumped at her name and her eyes shot up to you. Suddenly her gaze softened and she looked at you with concern.
“Y/N’s here!!” Casey shot across the room, and everyone practically stopped in their tracks and looked at you.
You gulped and looked around anxiously, pulling your bag closer to you defensively.
“Case… what’s going on…?” You stammered.
Casey couldn’t meet your gaze. Olivia suddenly came out of the Captain’s office and walked through the squad room, followed by Cragen peeking out of his office, telling everyone to get back to work. The shuffling and bustling immediately picked back up again. The noise wasn’t helping you one bit.
You suddenly felt a hand on your back shoulder, and you jumped slightly. You turned around, relaxing a bit to see it was only Olivia with a warm and caring smile.
“Y/N, let’s go into Cragen’s office, yeah…?” The brunette gently suggested.
After you slowly nodded with parted lips of confusion, Olivia led you by her hand on your back to the Captain’s office. She opened the door for you and closed it behind the two of you. Both SVU members looked tense and concerned.
“What exactly… is going on…?” You tensed out through partially gritted teeth, frustration now hitting you in waves.
Olivia guided you to sit down with her, before she but her lip and explained,
“Y/N… Alex didn’t show up for court a couple of hours ago… We… don’t know where she is. She’s not answering her phone, we can’t track it, it’s dead.”
Your heart sunk. And there was now a limp in your throat. Your heart only raced faster and you suddenly felt dizzy.
Olivia could tell that this was a lot to take in, so she gently held you on both sides of your arms.
“That’s not all…” Cragen sighed.
You looked up at the Captain with glossy eyes and a trembling lip.
“W-what…?” You stammered, bringing your arms into your chest and holding yourself.
“We think Alex was… taken.” He explained slowly.
“W-why would you think that…??” You exclaimed, the anger in you now swelling.
Cragen and Olive exchanged looks. Cragen nodded and relented into the brunettes insistence.
“Come on, let me show you something.” Olivia softly spoke.
She led you outside to the squad room and the media corner. Next to all the screens there was a board. A board of at least 100 photographs. And they were all of Alex. Alex and all the people she interacted with. You were on there, and so was Olivia, and Casey, and Rita, and Liz, and Amanda, and so on.
The pictures were practically Alex’s entire life since she’d been with you. This was years of photos. Some of them looked like they could have been snapped by a news reporter outside the courts. But others, much more intimate pictures of the two of you, could have only been captured by active camera surveillance.
You gasped, bringing your hand to your mouth, as you let out a choked sob that you couldn’t contain anymore. Your stomache sunk. You proceeded to collapse on the floor, and were lucky that Amanda was right by you. The Southern blonde was quick to scoop you up and guide you to take a seat in her desk chair.
She then tried to talk to you, but your mind was spiraling. Suddenly a big boom of stacks of paperwork falling across the squad room brought you back to reality with a jolt.
“Y/N? Y/N, there you are, ‘hun. Hey. Heyyy. It’s going to be okay, alright…?” Amanda reassured you.
“But h-how… do you know that…?” You choked out, the tears continuing to pour out.
At that, Amari and Fin walked into the squad room.
“It’s out lucky day! Perp’s blood was at the scene, that girl put up a fight…!” Amara exclaimed, not having realized that you were there.
You immediately stood up and turned to face Amaro. Nick’s eyes went wide and his face struggled to give away the fact that he knew he had fucked up.
“What scene? What…?? What happened??” You exclaimed with a gasp, frustration and anger running through your veins once more.
Amanda pulled you towards her and into her embrace. Her touch calmed you a little, but right now, you really needed it to be Alex’s touch. After a minute, her hug actually and surprisingly helped.
“Thanks…” you muttered.
Amanda shrugged and smiled lightly, as if it was nothing.
“Learned that in Atlanta, had a partner who had anxiety attacks.” The blonde told you, “It’s a grounding thing.”
You listened and nodded along. But your mind quickly started to wander back to Alex again.
“Wait what scene? Do you know where she was taken…??” You asked.
Amanda sighed and stood up, telling you to wait here. She checked in with Cragen in his office, before coming back to you and grabbing her keys.
“Come on, let’s go for a ride.” Amanda told you, indicating for you to follow her.
You gulped and nodded, silently following the Southern blonde with your wobbly legs. You two got into her patrol car, and she began driving. The ride was silent. You had now become numb, your feelings too much to bear. You didn’t want to go down the rabbit hole of what could go wrong… So you stayed in the ignorance of feeling numb.
After about 15-20 minutes, Amanda pulled up to you and Alex’s shared brownstone. You gulped as your eyes widened as it began to click for you.
“This is…” you stammered, trying to find the words.
“Come on, Darling. I’ll explain inside.” Amanda gently reassured you, squeezing your left hand caringly, before getting out of the car.
You followed the blonde detective up the steps of your brownstone and inside. No one was here anymore. But it was a mess, all taped up with crime scene tape and marked with evidence markers and such. It made your stomache flip upside down when you saw blood on the kitchen doorway.
“What Amaro said, that asshole… was that Alex didn’t go down without a fight…” Amanda explained, taking your hand in reassurance as you walked through the torn apart apartment.
“Alex managed to make her kidnapper bleed.” Amanda breathed out.
At that you looked at the woman with wide eyes.
“So you can find out who they are?” You immediately asked.
Amanda bit her inner cheek and looked way slightly.
“Yeaaa ideally yes… but we already ran it, and he’s not in the system…” she explained.
Any and all hope that you had just gained was lost all over again. Amanda squeezed your hand again in reassurance.
“So what’s next…? What can I do?” You asked, desperate to do anything, to get her back, to see her again.
“First, we are going to walk through your place and go through the events, at least what we know. See if any of it jogs your memory of like someone who would want to harm Alex…” Amanda breathed out.
You shuttered and nodded slowly.
“Then when Olivia and Cragen give the go ahead, I’ll take you back to svu and Olivia will properly interview you…”
You gulped, yet nodded again.
“Ok, let’s do it…” you breathed out.
Amanda nodded and guided you by your hand, walking you through the scene. All your feelings came crashing back as the blonde detective walked you through the theory SVU had of what happened.
Alex hadn’t even left for the office yet, having not needed to go in as early that day… You and already left for work, when someone had come to the door. Alex must have known the person, because she let them in (or they had a gun). The main struggle was in the kitchen. SVU assumed that Alex had most likely tried to reason with whomever the perp was, but it went south in the kitchen. Alex’s blood was on the counter, in a circular mark that upheld that the assailant had violently cracked Alex’s head down upon the counter. There were also blood splatters of Alex’s going from the kitchen and out the door, by the amount and pattern of the blood, it was assumed that the assailant had shot Alex somewhere in the leg, but hadn’t hit a major artery or vein. Luckily, on the kitchen doorway, there was Alex’s bloody partial print, but there blood wasn’t hers. The theory was that before the shooter had incapacitated her, she got a swing or two in, and then when he dragged her out, she made one last attempt to grasp the doorway, leaving the perps blood.
Your heart was pounding in your ears three times as fast as earlier. Tears were pouring down your face and you hadn’t even realized it. Amanda squeezed your hand tighter, as she asked you if it sounded like someone you knew or if it triggered any memories.
“N-no… Mm sorry…” you gasped out in between sobs.
The Southern blonde now came in front of you and took both of your hands.
“Don’t be, you did so good, Y/N.” Amanda comforted you, before receiving a ding on her phone and checking her notifications.
It was Olivia telling Amanda to bring you back. You spent the car ride opposite of the last, filled with all the emotions. You were distraught, and sad, and afraid, and angry, and infuriated, and so much more. Your head was swimming, no drowning it it all. You just wanted a break. You wanted Alex safe in your arms.
Amanda led you back into the squad room, passing you off to Olivia with a reassuring smile. Olivia took you into the family interview room, one that was less jarring than the brick and mortar perp interview/confession rooms. She had you sit on the couch next to her.
“Y/N, Amanda told me that you couldn’t think of anything at the crime scene…”
“Don’t… call it that…” you sputtered, having cried yourself out in the car and now hicupping instead.
Olivia sighed, “Of course, I’m sorry— At your and Alex’s home…”
You had your hands clasped in your lap and you were rocking back and forth anxiously. The brunette detective reached for your hands with her hands and tried to physically comfort you, but you jerked in response, starting to hyperventilate. The brunette detective was quick to retract and stick with her interview questions.
“Besides what you didn’t think of at the crim— your and Alex’s place— Can you think of anyone who would want to hurt you…?” Olivia prodded gently.
You shook your head and then hiccuped. Alex had her hair share of criminals who didn’t like her, but nothing she ever found concerning enough to share with you.
“Alright, what about anyone following you recently…? Notice any reoccurring faces…?” She asked.
You thought about it, going through your last months, if not years in your mind.
“I… don’t think so, no…” you stammered, with two more hiccups.
“Alright… Can I get you some water?”
“Yes please…” you whispered, not being able to handle the eye contact, so you simply shut your eyes.
Olivia muttered something with a hum, letting go of your hands, and leaving the room with the door ajar. You just sat there, with your eyes closed and shaking in your boots. You could hear the noisy clamor of the squad room from the ajar door. It was still just as chaotic, if not more. Tensions were high, and fuses were short.
Before Olivia could come back with your water, a familiar voice boomed while entering the squad room.
“Who the hell didn’t inform me about Alex going missing, and why the fuck did I need to find out like this?!”
You immediately stood up with a jolt, scrambling into the squad room to see Rita standing furiously in the middle of the room, while holding up a manila envelope with her name on it. Calhoun’s determined scowl faltered as she noticed you in the corner. She immediately lowered her mask of defense lawyer and rushed over to you.
Her hands were all of over you, checking to see if you were okay. They landed on each side of your face, as her concerned gaze looked at you.
“Hey Baby… How are you holding up…?” She asked, her eyes still scanning you up and down, before landing on your gaze when she expected an answer.
But all she got was a choked sob from you, your tears now back in full swing. The older woman immediately pulled you in for a hug, which you happily accepted. She hugged you tight and with fierce love, you could feel every fiber of her being that cared through the embrace. When Rita let you go, you wheezed and little and whipped your tears away.
Olivia had by now gotten your water and caught wind of the commotion, now coming up to you and Rita. Rita sent daggers to the brunette detective, making Olivia stop a couple feet away from you.
“What’s in the envelope…?” Olivia quipped, before extending her hand with your water in it.
Rita took the water, examined it, then gave it to you, instructing you to drink, before she considered answering Olivia. When she did, her eyes went sad. The main SVU members had surrounded the two of you, all curious as to what Rita had brought. She opened the envelope and pulled out a hard drive.
“Aha! My area of expertise…!” Munch exclaimed, taking the hard drive from Rita and going over to the media corner to open whatever files were contained within the stick.
You went to follow the rest do the team to see what was on the file, but Rita grabbed you by your arm before you could get too far. You turned back to Rita and looked at the woman who had been your mentor, aunt, mom, practically everything with confusion and glossy eyes.
“ ‘Hun, you may not want to see that…” Rita sighed with deep sadness in her eyes.
She had already seen it.
Your eyes hardened and you frowned. You quickly pulled your hand out of Rita’s grasp.
“Like hell I won’t…” you exclaimed, then turning around and walking up behind the team who were all gathered around Munch who was about to click play on a video file.
Rita came up behind you, her eyes staying on you the entire time as the video played. She watched your face whiten, watched your face wash over in horror, then a wave of anger. She watched your shock, then followed by uncontrollable sadness and tears.
Alex was in the centre of the screen, tied up and hanging by her wrists around a rusty metal bar running along the wall. Her head was hanging low. Her hair frazzled and tired. Her clothing was dirty, torn, and bloody. There was a light sway of her body as it hung from the beam. Her shoes had been discarded. The bottom half of her her stomache was on display, as her shirt was being strained from the position. Her left lower leg was bleeding, presumably from the gunshot from the struggle at the brownstone. Her forehead was all bloody from the blow to the counter.
Suddenly, a person stepped into the frame. They were wearing all black and had their face and voice masked. He had some kind of black colored weapon, almost baton looking in his hand. He laughed wickedly into the camera, before turning his attention to Alex.
“As I can’t torture all of you, unfortunately… One will have to do…” The man tilted his head as he turned on the stick and plunged it against Alex’s exposed side stomache with a cackle.
Alex’s body convulsed and jolted uncontrollably as she was she was hit with volts and volts of burning electricity. She let out a desperate groan, which turned into a silent scream as tears poured down her face, as she fought against her restraints and against the volts. After a couple solid seconds of this, the man finally retracted the insane taser torture. As he moved the torture device back, Alex’s freshly burned skin could be seen, a fresh branded circle on the side of her stomache. The man proceeded to repeat this process for multiple rounds. And the whole time, Alex fought and screamed and convulsed, as tears ran down her face and shirt. Finally, after five burning rounds, Alex passed out. And the man stopped, looking to the camera with a grin.
“No point if the bitch isn’t awake…” He chuckled wickedly, “And that was only Act 1… Dedicated to Detective Olivia Benson…”
Rage was quick to take over your enter being, all the sadness quickly forgotten. You nearly assaulted Olivia right then and there. But Rita saw this coming, and she was quick to hold you back as you attempted to pounce on the brunette detective across from you.
You scowled and fought back, the team all taking a step back from you, all of them just as shocked as you were. But Rita held you firm.
“Shhhh, Baby, it’s okay… Calm down…” Rita cooed into the shell of your ear, “It’s going to be okay, it’s not Olivia’s fault…”
After a couple seconds, Rita managed to get you to promise to not punch the older brunette detective in the face. So she let you go. You huffed and didn’t know what to do. You were hit with another wave of sudden sadness.
As you were having your life crisis, the team began speculating and conversating about what they could learn from the video and how they could find Alex. You weren’t able to focus on them or anything anymore, everything started to just fade away into black.
When you woke up, you were in Rita’s lap, back in the family interview room. For a split second, you felt at peace’s and then reality smacked you back in the face. Rita was beginning to tell you that you had passed out when you began to freak out.
“Hey, Hey. It’s okay, sweetheart. You’re safe, it’s okay.” Rita comforted you, as you sat up startled and distraught.
“N-no it’s n-not… Alex my Lex she’s… she’s…” you choked out, hyperventilating.
Rita was quick to take you into her arms on the couch and comfort you. She ran her fingers through your hair, she rubbed your arms and hands and side, calming you as best as you could.
“Hey. We are going to find this sycko who did this… ok? The team is on it…” Rita insisted and ensured you, “Take some deep breaths for me, Baby…”
You nodded shakily, your entire body shaking in Rita’s arms, as you took some deep breaths. You began to doze off in the woman’s arms, Rita was quick to encourage you to not fight it. And so you dozed off…
You awoke startled once more by a shriek echoing through the squad room and into where you and Rita were. You practically fell off the couch and scrambled out to the squad. Rita was swift behind you. Your eyes fell on Casey, who now had a Manila envelope in her hand with her name on it.
“Where did you get that??” Olivia questioned the redhead.
“I… a junior officer dropped it off… I don’t know, sorry” Casey stammered, handing it off to Olivia who opened it.
“Fin, Amanda, go find that junior officer, maybe he can give us a lead on this guy.” Cragen told his team.
Fin and Amanda nodded and left the room at once. Olivia had found another hard drive, having passed it to Munch to analyze. Rita’s eyes widened as Munch went to press play, and she tried to pull you away once more, but you only pulled away from her and to the screen with more ferocity. With a click from Munch, the video began…
Alex was still in the same position. She was awake again. But barely. Drool was coming from the sides of her mouth as her head lolled down. Her breathing was heavy and labored, affecting her entire body as it hung from the rope attached to her wrists and around the beam.
The man then came back into the camera screen. He held a knife in his hand this time. After taunting the camera, he stalked up to Alex, his free hand roughly grabbing and wrenching her blouse open. The buttons clattered to the floor as the perp moved the torn blouse aside, showing off Alex’s black bra and exposed chest and stomache.
Alex seemed to barely register anything until the knife began slicing her chest. She let out a howl at the pain, deep enough to hurt, but not deep enough to kill. He continued these slices, along her stomache, along her clothed arms as well, and all the way up to her shoulders and neck. He seemed to only be egged on by Alex’s groans and cries, which very quickly turned into begging and pleading for him to stop. Once the man reached her neck, he held the knife firmly along her throat, before speaking. The dozens of cuts all bleed into one another, practically covering Alex’s entire upper body in blood.
“Act 2 is not as bad, because you just sucked at your job…” The man sneered, “But trust me, the next one… I’d be surprised if the bitch doesn’t die… Dedicated to Rita Calhoun.”
Your knees buckled and you collapsed on the floor as Alex let out a particular blood curteling scream in the video. Tears streamed down your face as you couldn’t bring yourself to watch the rest of the video, the audio already taunting you enough. You felt your body go limp and you began to slouch and fall from your knees to the ground completely.
“Turn it off! Off!!” Rita yelled enraged, before dropping to the ground with you and comforting you.
Munch turned the video off, but not before the man was able to dedicate the video to Rita. Rita’s eyes widened and her throat went dry. The whole team stared at the two of you. Rita was dumbfounded at what this had to do with her, but she was quick to spring into action over it.
“Novak. Take Y/N to the diner down the street. She probably hasn’t eaten all day.” Rita commanded the room.
Casey’s eyes widened, and she immediately nodded in understanding.
“Of course, Rita.” Casey said, hurriedly coming over to the two of you.
You tried to protest as Rita handed you over to Casey, but Rita was stern and quickly silenced you, not that you could say anything right now with how overwhelmed you were. Casey was quick to file you out of the room.
You didn’t even remember leaving SVU or getting to the diner, all you remember is suddenly sitting with Casey looking at the late lunch menu. You were shaking and fidgeting like crazy.
Casey reached her hand across the table and squeezed your balled up fist reassuringly. You looked up to the redhead with your stained and now completely dried out eyes, having cried it all out for the second time today.
“Hey. Let’s get you some food, huh…?” Casey hummed.
You nodded slowly. The waitress came, but you couldn’t hear a thing. Casey looked at you with care and understanding, ordering for the both of you. Then once the waitress had left, her attention was on you once more.
“C-Casey…?” You whispered.
Casey leaned in and softly spoke,
“Yes…?”
“How… how are you okay…?” You whispered, a single tear rolling down your cheek as you blinked, “She’s… she’s like your best friend and you hers…”
Casey sighed and squeezed your hand again.
“Y/N, look at me.” Casey hummed, her tone breaking in a falter.
You finally looked at Casey again, and took in her appearance. You suddenly noticed the tear stains on her face and how crazy her long, normally well curled hair was.
“I am not okay. I just… suck at showing my emotions…” Casey explained gently, her own eyes beginning to gloss over as she became more vulnerable.
Your lips pressed together and you smiled lightly, nodding in understanding. You gasped slightly as you felt your phone vibrate once in your pocket. You then felt another vibration. Then one last final third vibrating. You pulled your hands into your lap, away from Casey. The redhead looked at you concerningly.
“Everything okay…?” Casey asked.
“Mm yea… just… need the restroom…” you muttered, before getting out of the diner booth and going to the back where the bathroom was.
Casey nodded, watching you leave, before getting on her phone and updating the team, as well as getting updated by what they had figured out. She let the team know that you were doing okay and that she was about to feed you. She sighed and let out a light groan, trying to process the weight of what was happening, while reading the update from the group chat.
Munch had analyzed the background of the video, having figured out that Alex was being kept in some warehouse. Which one, they had no clue.
Fin and Amanda had gotten no leads from the junior officer, apparently the envelope had been given to him by a homeless looking guy who disappeared as soon as he dropped off the package at the precinct.
Rita, Olivia, and Nick had been spending their time looking over old case files and anything that connected Olivia and Rita along with possibly Alex, in hope to find a perp or bad guy who got away somehow and wanted revenge.
When Casey was done being caught up, the food had come. But you were still in the bathroom… The redhead grew suspicious, getting up from the table and walking to the back of the diner to the bathroom. She knocked on the door, but received no answer. Quickly, she tried your cell. Straight to voicemail.
~~
As you stepped into the bathroom, you couldn’t shake the terrible feeling about the texts, so you locked the door and immediately opened your phone. The texts were all from one unknown number.
Y/N L/N.
Then a video link.
Act 3. Elizabeth Donnelly
You didn’t even click or see the video. Not yet. You saw Liz’s name and couldn’t think of anything else. Liz would know what to do. She always knew what to do.
You carefully escaped from Casey’s gaze and hold out of the back of the diner, rushing to catch a cab to the DA’s office where Liz would most likely be. The ride wasn’t too long, but you still couldn’t bring yourself to press play on that video. Liz would know what to do. She always did.
Once your reached Liz’s office, you didn’t even knock, simply barging in. Liz was talking with a few DA’s, and she was about to dig into whoever interrupted them, but then she saw your state.
“Leave. All of you, now!” Liz ordered, shooing the attorneys away.
You quickly shut and locked the door behind you. Liz looked you up and down.
“Y/N, what is going on…?” The older woman spoke firmly.
You were hyperventilating again. You could sit, you were pacing. But you had to tell her something. And you tried, but you couldn’t bring yourself to explain. Liz stood up, recognizing the signs of an anxiety attack, and coming over to you in concern. She guided you to sit with her on her office couch, asking you again, more softly this time,
“Honey, what’s the matter…?”
You let out a choked sob, bringing out your phone and clicking the video. That was the only thing you could think of. Liz watched your every movement. You pressed play.
Alex was hanging as in the last video, but her blouse was completely gone. Her breathing was shallow and barely there, but she was still alive.
The man showed back up, coming up to the camera to say hello, before quickly turning his attention to Alex once more with the same knife as before in his hands. He grabbed Alex’s chin and pulled her face to meet his gaze. Alex tried to growl and fight back, but the exhaustion on her face was evident. He had probably drugged her up real good so that she didn’t stand a chance… While the man held her face rough with one hand, his other with the knife sliced her bra into pieces. He then let her face go with a smack! before tearing the bra off her body. The vulnerable whimper that Alex let out was distinct. And it only fed into the man’s fantasies. He then bent down to her bottom half and ran the knife down her side, followed by his hands ripping her skirt open. He wrenched that off her as well, throwing it aside. Alex was now left only in her panties. She closed her eyes and went limp, as the man trailed the knife in between her legs and up against her clothed core. He then moved to her thigh and ripped her underwear off with a snap! until she was fully nude, hanging for everyone to see. Another hopeless whimper left Alex as the man suddenly smacked her ass.
Before the video could finish, Liz slammed the phone down onto the ground, effectively pausing it. Your eyes went wide and you looked at the older woman with an open mouth. She looked horrified. But Rage was quick to replace the shock.
“What?! Liz wait—!!” You exclaimed as the blonde stood up and shook her white knuckle fists.
Liz turned back to you, looking you directly in the eyes.
“What in the actual fuck is going on, Y/N?!Why in the hell are you making me watch my daughter be tortured by some psycho???” Liz shrilled.
“Lower your voice!!” You harshly whispered, swiftly standing up and getting in her face, and effectively shutting Liz up for a second with how stern you and suddenly become.
“Then you better goddamn tell me what is going on…” Liz growled.
“OK—” you exclaimed, placing your hand on your forehead and sighing.
You say down again as the overwhelming sadness hit you once more.
“Lex… was taken… didn’t show up in court…” you stammered, “Guy’s been sending… videos…” you choked up.
Liz then picked up the phone from the floor, sitting back down next to you in silence for a moment.
“How many?”
You were jolted out of your grief by her words.
“W-what…?” You stammered.
“How many videos… did he send…?” Liz spoke, trying to sound in control but her own tone faltering and cracking a little.
“This is the third. He usually talks about it in the video…” you said quietly.
This made Liz look at you and then back to the phone. She turned it on and clicked play again. You both sat in anticipation as the video continued.
Alex’s bloody, bruised, and now completely exposed body came back on screen, right where it had left off. Alex flinched as the man smacked her ass a second time.
“Shut up Bitch!! Take it, We all know you want it!!!” The man jeered, before smacking her ass a third time and then grabbing and fondling her tits.
Alex tried to pull away from his touch, she tried to yell or cry or shout, but she found that her body was not taking orders from her mind anymore. Her body had gone limp. But she could feel everything. She could see everything in her line of sight. She could hear everything.
When she went completely silent, unable to protest anymore, the man cackled again, louder and more taunting than ever. He then proceeded to come up to the camera.
“Now, I’m not gonna show you this next bit… I’m going to save that for when you find her dead body… But Act 3 is dedicated to that bitch judge, Elizabeth Donnelly…” the man jeered.
The video then went static for a second. Then the camera came back on and showed an unconscious Alex Cabot, swaying lightly back and forth. Where her body wasn’t sliced and cut, it was bruised. Where her body wasn’t bloody, it was covered in dirt, like it had been thrown at her. The faint and small outlines of cigarette burns were trailed across both of her arms and thighs. Her mouth was filled with an oozing her own blood, as if 100 fists had hit her. And her right tit was branded with a symbol, difficult to make out. All of this and so much worse would be discovered had been done to her…
The video ended and silence took the room. Suddenly you heard crying. You looked over and Liz was hunched over and crying in her lap. You weren’t sure what to do, haven’t ever seen the powerful, older woman so vulnerable before. You just instinctively wrapped an arm around her and pulled her close.
“I… I’m sorry. I didn’t… didn’t know what to do… I thought if I came to you…” you rambled, now feeling guilty for having brought this to Liz.
“Hush… none of that… ssnot your fault.” Liz breathed out in sniffles, accepting your embrace and pressing into you even more, “I know she’s not… my real daughter but if anything happens to her… I… I don’t know what I’d do…”
You two sobbed in each other’s arms for a while. It was only when someone came banging on Liz’s office door with no sudden warning that the two of you jumped apart and off the couch. You went to unlock the door and storming in came a furious Rita.
Rita wouldn’t even hear it from you. She took your phone immediately. All the way back to the squad room, the car was silent between the three of you.
Casey had figured out that you had run away, and she had immediately called SVU. They had divided and conquered all the places they thought you’d go. And the second Liz wasn’t answering her own phone, Casey knew that was where you had gone.
Back in the squad room, Munch began analyzing your phone. You sat in one of the detectives chairs, fidgeting and bouncing your leg, under Rita’s intense gaze. She had made you tell the team everything that had happened. She was not going to let you slip away again. Over her dead body.
Liz immediately threw a fit and started ordering people around. After looking at the files that Olivia and Amara had compiled, it took her five minutes to put it together. Liz found a perp who had escaped jail, whom Olivia had interrogated, Rita had represented and lost, She had judged, and Alex had prosecuted and won.
The second the team had their perp, they began canvassing possible areas. The man leased a piece of warehouse property near the river as it was discovered, so that’s where everyone rushed to go to.
Everyone was on edge.
“I’m gonna go!” You exclaimed to Rita.
“No you are not!!” She shrieked back.
“Why not?!! She’s the love of my life!!!” You yelled, tears running down your face as you screamed.
“Because she might be dead, Y/N!!!!”
Practically the entire squad room went silent at this. They all stared at you and Rita. But quickly, they all began their work again, and the team ran out to the location to find Alex. Both Rita and Liz held you back as you fought to get outside and in a squad car. But they held the upper hand. You collapsed in both of their arms, desperate and exhausted, completely out of energy.
~~
The team did indeed find Alex, although she was barely breathing. They immediately sent her to Mercy’s, where Rita and Liz already had you there waiting. You sat in the waiting room, in between the two woman, shaking and fidgeting restlessly.
Hours went by with no update. Eventually, it was all too much for you. You leaned against Rita’s shoulder for some comfort and before you could stop yourself, you were falling asleep.
~~
“Y/N, love, wake up…” Liz gently woke you, making you snort lightly as you came back to reality.
She was offering you a hand, which you eagerly took to stand up. The nurse came up to you.
“You may see her now. One at a time please.” The nurse told the group of you.
Everyone looked at you and pretty much all agreed in unison and with mere looks that you would be the person going in to see her first.
You entered the hospital room, and immediately came up to Alex’s bedside. You felt relief wash over you that she was here with you and that she was okay. You held one of her hands as she came to.
“Mmm heyyyy…” Alex said in an extremely scratchy and hoarse voice, her head turning slowly towards you.
Tears of joy began to spill out and down your cheeks. You squeezed your wife’s hand lovingly.
“Hi Lex…” you whispered, “How are you feeling…?”
“Like someone pumped an entire pharmacy through me…” Alex groaned lightly, “mm pretty sure I was drugged… most of the time I couldn’t move or speak…” her tone got sad and overwhelmed, as tears started to form on her sapphire eyes.
“Hey hey, it’s okay.” You comforted Alex, who met your gaze again, smiling at the sight of you, “You’re safe with me now, that’s all that matters…”
Alex lightly squeezed your hand now as she smiled. It would be a long road to recovery, but the important thing is that you would be with her every step of the way.
Her squeeze on your hand faded, which you just attributed to the blonde being tired. But then her eyes closed… and then you couldn’t hear her breathing. You jolted when the heart rate monitor started going off.
Suddenly, there were 4-5 hospital staff members in the room, pushing you aside. You stood in the corner of the room, with your hands over your mouth, silent tears flooding down your face. You heard the designated coding sound come from the machine, and you collapsed onto the floor. Everything went numb.
You could vaguely hear a nurse giving you her condolences. You didn’t even reliaze that you were walking out of the room until you stood in front of the group that loved Alex the most. You were violently shaking, you felt like you couldn’t breathe.
Liz was the first own to come up to you, to see what was wrong. And Liz was the first one to understand… You fell to your knees and cried into your hands, not caring anymore. You’d lost the love of your life, your wife, your everything.
Liz looked more emotional and out of control than she’d ever been. She kept stammering that it couldn’t be true, but once a doctor came out and told the entire group the news, Liz let out a distraught wail, covering her face in her hands as she sobbed. Casey immediately buried herself in Liz’s embrace which Liz of course accepted. The last thing you remember about that day was Rita coming up to you and embracing you on the floor…

Unexpected
Author: @crowleysgirl67
Word Count: 3250
Parings/Characters: BAU Team, Reader x Hotch, Alexandra (OFC), Jack Hotchner,
Warnings: Show warnings, nondescript case, idk
A/N: Song is Older by isabel larosa the sped up version.
A woman jogging alone on a forest jogging path in the early morning mist. She trips on what she assumes is a tree root. After hitting the ground she rolls onto her side to see what she has tripped over. A scream echoes through the forest as the woman sees she has tripped over a body barely off the jogging path. The feet of the dead woman sticking out on the path just enough to trip the jogger.
***
“Locals have asked for our help with this case.” JJ said handing Spencer his paper file as the rest of you use the tablets to look at information. “Three young women ranging from eighteen to twenty-four have been murdered in the last six months. All have had their vocal cords cut from their bodies.”
“The latest victim Kendra Montgomery was found early yesterday morning by a jogger.” Garcia adds.
“Two of the three girls were white while the other was of Asian descent. So that kinda rules out a preferential reason. Or at least race isn’t a determining factor of how the victims are picked.” you state looking through the pictures.
“We can deliberate on the plane. Wheels up in twenty.” Hotch stands up.
Everyone disperses to grab their bags, leaving you and Hotch as the last ones to leave the room. Your heels click on the floor as you go around putting chairs back into place. You could feel him watching you as you did. Hotch and you had met about a year and a half earlier and had a one-night stand. Which was highly unusual for him but enough alcohol and loneliness can influence anyone. You hadn’t spoken to him since, until you transferred into his unit. He was shocked, but you both agreed to be professional.
“See you on the plane.” you said softly. He nodded in response and left to presumably go call his son.
“The time between his kills is getting shorter. Kills victim one, Andrea Kemp, six months ago. Then victim two, Mei Vuong, last month. Less than a full month between Mei and Kendra.” Emily points out.
“Doesn’t seem like he’s concerned with forensics. Plenty of fibers and things found with the bodies.” you say, looking over the forensic reports.
“No hits in any database so he’s not offended before or hasn’t been caught offending.” Reid muses.
“Let’s interview the families. Reid go over the girls records to see if you find anything. Dave, Morgan start with the crime scene and then go see Andreas' family. Prentiss, JJ take Meis' family. (Y/N) with me we’ll see the most recent victim, Kendras family.” Hotch divvies out what needs to be done.
***
“How sure are we that Nathan Benson is going to strike again so soon?” you ask
“He’s devolving. He needs to.” Reid replies
“So why are we waiting for him to take an innocent person? Why not give him what he wants?” you question.
“He already knows Prentiss and I are FBI.” JJ says.
“He doesn’t know me. I was never in the bar or did any interviews with him. I can go in, get his attention.”
“Have you done undercover before?” Morgan asks.
“Guys I get I’m new and you're skeptical but I got this.” you pulled out a bag and touched up your makeup, putting on some bright red lipstick. You took your hair out of the ponytail and messed it up to give it a stressed sex look. Tugging  your skirt up to mid thigh, you set your badge and gun down. “There’s an alley about a block away. I can walk by that, it’s the perfect place for him to want to kill. One of you can hide out there.” you said as you un tucked your blouse and tied it up exposing your midriff. You popped a button at the top exposing more cleavage. “Who hasn’t had interactions with him beside me?”
“I haven’t and neither has Hotch.” Morgan answers.
“Ok. Give it five and one of you can follow me in. And for heaven's sake if it’s you Hotch lose the ‘I’m an agent look’ yeah? Just a regular guy in a bar.” you hopped out the back of the surveillance van.
Morgan stifled a snicker, “We’ll see you in five.”
You gave a thumbs up and sauntered on in. You walked up to the bar and leaned over whispering in the bartender's ear to give you coke on the rocks, before surveying the establishment. You spotted Nathan back by the door to the kitchen. You made yourself comfy on the stool closest to him before striking up a conversation.
“I hear you have a nice karaoke thing going on here.” you smiled as you accepted the drink from the bartender. “Is that like a local thing? Or can out of towners join.” you purr, sipping your drink and batting your lashes at him.
“Anyone can join.” he smiled charmingly. “You like to sing?”
“Been doing it since I was little. How’s the selection?”
“Why don’t I show you?” he pushed away from the wall and showed you the music available.
You debated music as you flirted with him before finally choosing a song.
You went up to the mic as the music began, “Think I need someone older. Just a little bit colder. Takes the weight off your shoulders. Think I need someone older.”
You made eye contact with Hotch as he walked in. “Baby, am I your little secret? 18, I'm old enough to keep it.”
You finished the song, avoiding looking at Hotch again. He’d shed his suit coat and tie and had his sleeve rolled up to his elbows. Looking at him again would just prove to be a distraction.
‘Focus (Y/N). Now is not the time to be thinking about your baby daddy boss.’ you thought as you shifted your thoughts back to the task at hand.
You pretended to be more and more intoxicated as the night wore on before ‘stumbling’ out of the bar and headed in the direction of the alley. You teetered about as you walked, to keep up the appearance of being intoxicated. When you got to the alley you stopped and bent down putting your hands on your thighs, appearing as if you were about to vomit.
Nathan grabbed you then and dragged you into the alley. He brandished a knife and got a swipe in before you kicked him back and Morgan jumped from the shadows gun drawn.
“Drop it Nathan. It’s over.” he ordered as Hotch rounded the corner with the others.
“(Y/N) are you alright?” Hotch glanced at you holding your bloodied arm.
“Tis’ but a flesh wound. I’ll be fine.” you waved him off as you walked out of the alley. Your arm was the least of your concerns. You leaked through your padding and you didn’t need the embarrassment nor questions about your now wet shirt. It’d been a few hours since you’d been able to slip away to pump and you really should have done it sooner, but with everything going on it’d slipped your mind.
You made it back to the cars and grabbed your bag. Hopefully you could manage to cover up at least until you could get a moment to fix the issue.
“(Y/N).” JJs soft voice and hand on your shoulder startled you. You hadn’t heard her approach as you grabbed a sweater from your bag.
“Geez JJ.” you pulled the sweater to your chest.
“How old is your baby?” she asks, getting straight to the point.
Well so much for getting away unseen. “She’s six months old.” you replied softly to avoid being overheard.
“Do what ya gotta. I’ll cover for you.” she smiled softly but you knew she’d be asking you about it more later.
“Thank you, I just need ten minutes.” you climbed in the back of the SVU. JJ shut the door and stood outside it waiting.
“Where’s (Y/N)? The medics are here. I want her to get checked out.” Hotch asked, approaching the car.
“She’ll be out in a minute. She’s changing her shirt.” JJ answered.
Luckily you were just finished pumping. You put everything away quickly and tossed on the clean sweater leaving your hurt arm exposed for easy access, and climbed out of the car. You gave JJs shoulder a gentle squeeze in thanks.
Hotch escorted you over to the medics. “You’re lucky it wasn't worse.”
“I know. But it’s not like I did this alone. You guys were backing me up.” you winced at the alcohol put on the wound to clean it as the medic patched you up. A couple of steri strips and a bandage was all it took. “See? I didn’t even need stitches.”
“Still.” he narrowed his eyes. “I don’t like it.” he said so softly you almost missed it.
“Aaron..” you trailed off as Rossi came over.
“Good job kid. How ya feeling?” he asked
“Stings a little but I’m alright.” you tuck your newly bandaged arm into the sleeve of your sweater.
Everyone went back to the hotel to gather things and meet on the plane. JJ met you by your room with her bag.
“Why didn’t you tell us you had a kid?” she asked, following you in as you started packing.
“It’s in my file.” you shrug.
“Only Hotch and Rossi can read those.”
“Oh well that’s good to know.” you finish packing.
“What's her name?”
“Alexandra.” you smiled softly and showed JJ some pictures on your phone.
“She’s adorable.” JJ smiles.
“Thanks. She’s getting so big.”
“If you don’t mind me asking; where’s her dad?”
“He doesn’t know about her. She was a result of a drunken night.” you followed her out of the room.
“Oh. Well if you have a name we could always help you find him.” She offered.
“That’s sweet of you to offer but I’ll tell him.”
“You know who he is?” she asked, surprised.
“I’ve seen him again recently.”
“Seen who?” Reid asks as you meet most of the others in the lobby.
‘Well, might as well drop this bombshell’ you thought as you didn’t see Hotch. “My daughters father.”
“You have a kid?” Morgan asked.
“Why is that surprising to everyone?” you chuckle “Do I not look old enough for a kid or somethin?”
“Just you don’t talk about having a kid.” Emily pipes in.
“Hotch doesn’t talk about his kid much either.” you point out.
“That’s different, at least we know about Jack. You’ve never mentioned your kid before.”
“Touche.” you concede to her point.
“So tell us about her.” Morgan encouraged.
“Alexandra is six months old. Full head of black curls.” you smiled and pulled her pictures up to show the rest of them. You let them pass your phone around to look at her pictures.
“Wow you weren’t kidding about that head of hair.” Morgan chuckled.
“Look at those big beautiful brown eyes.” Emily gushed.
You smiled, it was cute watching them fawn over her pictures.
“What’s going on over here?” Rossi asked as he approached, with Hotch.
“(Y/N) is showing off pictures of her daughter, Alexandra.” Emily passed him the phone.
You avoided looking back, you could feel Aarons stare burning a hole in the back of your head.
“Cute kid.” Rossi chuckled while showing Hotch. “How old?”
“She's six months old.” you replied, finally turning to face them. You watched Hotch take the phone for a better look. He was keeping a neutral face but you could tell he was calculating her age and factoring in your encounter. The phone shrilled in his hand and he gave it back.
“Pardon me.” you took it and answered walking a few paces off.
The others chatted amongst themselves, but Dave looked between the two of you. “You wanna tell me what that’s about?” he asked softly, careful to not be heard by the others.
“I’ll tell you later.” Hotch replied.
**
Hotch cornered you by your car after arriving back in DC. “We need to talk.”
“Great, get in the car. You can talk while I drive.” you tossed your bag in the back seat of your car. “Alex has a fever and I need to get home.”
His brow furrowed, “Fine. But I’m driving. Give me your keys.”
At this point you were too tired and stressed to argue so you tossed him your keys. He helped you into the passenger side before climbing in himself. “Directions?”
You gave him the way to your house and sat back waiting for his barrage of questions.
“Is she mine?” he asked after several minutes in silence.
“Yes. You were the first person I’ve slept with in awhile. I didn’t sleep with anyone after either so she’s definitely yours. We can get a DNA test if you want.”
He glanced over, “I believe you.”
Nothing else was said as he pulled into your drive. Danika, your nanny, was waiting on the porch with a screaming Alex. You hopped out of the car before he had it in park and jogged up the steps.
“Danika, how long has she been screaming like this?” you took Alex from her.
“About ten minutes Miss. Her fever is down to 99.3 from the 100.5 it was earlier. I gave her a dose of tylenol about 4 hours ago. I was gonna give her another but I wanted to wait for you.” she replied.
“Ok. Thank you. I've got it from here. I’ll see you in the morning.” you rocked Alex. “It’s ok baby. Mamas here.” you soothed her and took her inside Hotch on your heels.
“May I?” he asked.
“Of course She’s your daughter too.” You passed her to him and went to get her some medicine. When you got back she wasn’t screaming. She had stopped and gone down to a small fuss. “I’ve got her meds.” you held them up.
He looked up, “See? Mamas got the feel good stuff. You’re ok.”
You tried to ignore the feeling running through you at him calling you mama, and walked over. “Do you want to give it to her?”
“Sure.” he smiled and took the meds from you. He gave her the meds as you watched him with her. He was so soft and gentle, it was a sweet surprise. Complete contrast to his usual behavior.
“What’s her full name?” he asks as he rocks her.
“Alexandra Haley Hotchner. I did remember your name.” you said softly.
He swallowed and looked back down at Alex. “Why did you choose Haley as her middle name?”
“A feeling I guess. I can’t really describe it. The name just kept floating around in my head for weeks.”
“Hailey was my wifes name. Jack's mother.” he said softly.
“I’m sorry Aaron. She’s young enough, we can always change it if it hurts too much.”
“No. No, it's perfect.” he smiled as she held his finger.
“I guess it was meant to be then.” you smiled softly.
He stayed up with you talking about Alex. How you were going to coparent. How to explain this to everyone and how to introduce Jack to Alex. It was really late by the time you finished.
“Do you want to spend the night? It’s late and we took my car here.”
“That’d be great. Thank you. I’ll let Jess know I’ll be home later.”
You showed him to the guest room before taking Alex and putting her in her nursery. You checked her temperature, which thankfully had gone down again. After making sure the baby monitor was on you left the room. You checked on Aaron one more time before going to bed.
**
It took a few weeks but you eventually introduced Jack to Alex. You’d be meeting Aaron at his house so it would be comfortable for Jack.
“Does this mean you’re gonna get married?” Jack asked Hotch as he waited by the window.
“Uh.. no bud. (Y/N) and I aren’t going to get married.” he answered. He wasn’t about to explain the complicatedness of this whole situation to a child. Jack was too young to understand.
“They’re here!” Jack shouts excitedly.
“Alright. Remember your sister is still a baby and so you need to be gentle and not so loud ok?”
“I know dad.” Jack hops down from the couch by the window.
He chuckled as he opened the door to greet you. “Hey (Y/N) come on in.”
“Hey.” you smiled and stepped inside.
“(Y/N) this is Jack. Jack this is (Y/N).”
You passed Alex to Hotch and knelt down to greet Jack. “Hi Jack.” you held out your hand.
Jack glanced up at his dad, who gave him a slight nod. He shook your hand, “Hi.”
“You’ve got a good handshake there bud. Did your dad teach you?”
Jack nods enthusiastically and you smile. “Are you ready to meet Alex?”
“Yes!”
“Well go on then.” you nod to Aaron who's gone and sat on the couch with her.
He ran over and stood in front of them. You smiled watching Aaron introduce them. Alex cooed and squirmed in his arms as Jack giggled.
Over the next few weeks you spent a lot of time with Aaron and Jack letting them get to spend time with Alex.
“(Y/N)?” Jack looked up at you from the floor where he was playing by Alex.
“Yeah bud?” you looked up from your book.
“If Alex is my sister, does that make you my new mommy?”
“Come here bud.” you put your book down and picked him up and set him on the couch. “Your mommy will always be your mommy. Just like I will always be Alex’s mommy. I am not here to replace her. I’m not your new mommy but I would like to be your friend.”
“Do you want to be my mommy? You can marry daddy.” he looked up at you.
“Oh sweetheart.” your heart ached for him. “Your daddy and I aren’t getting married. We aren’t even dating.”
“Do you want to date my daddy?”
“I like your dad very much. Sometimes adult stuff is complicated. You don’t need to worry about those things, ok?”
“Ok.” he nodded and hopped back off the couch to continue playing.
You racked a hand through your hair, and turned when you heard a sound. Aaron was leaning in the doorway, coffee mug in hand. You got up and went over to him.
“Are you alright?”
He ignored the question, “So you really like me huh?”
“You heard that? Yes I like you.” you answered. “We wouldn't have a baby if I didn't like you.”
He’d been in the middle of a sip when you said that and choked a little on his drink. You covered your mouth to stifle your giggle. He had a little coffee dribble so you took the baby rag from your shoulder and dabbed the corner of his mouth to clean it up.
“I need to put this down.” he rasped and went to the kitchen, you followed, still snickering. He set the cup down and gripped the edge of the counter to compose himself.
“What do we do now?” you asked.
He took a breath and turned to face you, “I’d like to give us a try. Jack likes you, I like you. You like me. So (Y/N) would you go on a date with me?”
You smiled, “I’d love too. We skipped that the last time.”

The precinct room was tense. Nobody was moving a muscle. Everyone frozen. You stood right under the doorway. Everyone’s eyes were on her, on Casey.
It was crazy how wrong this had gone so quickly. The perp was holding Casey in front of him with a knife to the ADA’s throat. Her eyes were bulging in fear and you could see her body shaking.
You had walked into the situation, unintentionally, showing up to surprise your wife for lunch. And you had walked in to the precinct to find everyone with their hands up and staring at Case.
Your heart was racing and your breath was bated. Your mind started to spiral, as Elliot started to try and talk the perp down.
The man’s words blurred in and out of your understanding, you were too busy relieving your entire life with Casey. It was too fleeting. It wasn’t enough. This couldn’t be it. You and her had barely had anytime together.
The perp started to get more agitated. It seemed that anything Elliot was saying was only making it worse…
Before you knew it, you heard a sudden slice followed by a squelched scream… and blood splattering across the room…
your heart dropped. Then another slice, no scream this time. Your eyes fluttered heavily, you started to feel dizzy…
Your legs collapsed on themselves and you feel tumbling to the floor. Nothing made sense. How did it all go so wrong, so quickly…?
Tears started to flow from your eyes. You looked up toward the bloody scene, your vision was blurred and hazy. EMTs were rushing to the two bodies that lies laying on the floor.
Everything began to muffle, the sounds fading into the background. You got the sudden urge to throw up, and you couldn’t stop it, vomiting across the precinct floor in front of you.
You jolted as you felt someone’s hand on your back. You looked up to your left with sobbing eyes to see Olivia trying to talk to you. But you couldn’t hear her.
She tried to pick you up and turn you away from Casey, but you fought back. You fought with your life and soul to get to Casey. Olivia’s hold tightened, not letting you move, so in desperation, you began to scream.
“No! God please no!” as you collapse to ground again and scream in agony.
She picked you up from the floor again and quickly filed you out of the main room and into a separate office. You fought and fought but you just didn’t have it in you anymore. She sat you down, sitting next to you, still trying to tell you something.
This was when you noticed how much you were shaking. You couldn’t stop it. Your breathing was shallow and you felt like you were being blocked from the air in your lungs. This realization only brought more tears. Shock and adrenaline were now in full course and running rampant in your system, and you were really starting to feel the overwhelming effect.
Your eyes started to feel heavy and it all became too much. The last thing you remember is leaning against Olivia’s shoulder before shutting your eyes indefinitely.
~~
When you woke up, you were in Olivia’s apartment. You jolted upright with wide eyes.
Olivia was in her kitchen, but as soon as she heard your gasped breathing, she came into the living room where you laid on her couch. She immediately sat down next to you, bringing her hand behind your back.
“Hey, hey… sweetheart, it’s okay. You’re at my apartment. I didn’t think… it would be appropriate to go to yours…” Olivia explained softly.
For a moment, for a nanosecond, you felt at peace. And then it all hit you.
Her dead body, the life leaving her eyes as blood spilt everywhere, her twitching hand as she bleed out, her mouth which you swore was whispering I love you…
You started shaking again, and your breathing went shallow and spiked. Tears flowed freely and violently as you rocked back and forth on Liv’s couch.
“Oh god Oh God Oh God…” you choked out, your lip trembling as you tried to stifle your violent sobs.
“It’s okay, let it all out…” Liv comforted you.
You suddenly felt the rage in your body kick in. You swatted Liv’s hand away and stood up, filled with anger.
“Y/N?” The brunette asked.
“I… I need to go…” you mumbled, “W-where’s my stuff?”
“At the precinct still… Wait Y/N?!”
Before Liv could say another word, you were out the door.
~~~
You walked into the SVU precinct for the second time in twenty four hours that day. The first thing you saw was the blood stain straight in front of you as you walked in. You gulped.
More feelings came bubbling up but you shoved them down.
You marched into the Captain’s office and demanded your things. Cragen looked at you sympathetically and asked if you were alright.
“I’m fine…” you grumbled, “now please give me my shit back.”
Cragen obliged and you were quick your things and leave. You made it all the way home and to your apartment hallway.
But then you saw your apartment. The one you and Casey had gotten together. The one you had planned to raise kids together in.
You shakily placed a hand over your mouth before letting out more uncontrollable sobs. Your legs were threatening to give out on you, but you managed to stumble your way to the bedroom, collapsing on the bed and losing consciousness again.
~~
You couldn’t get out of bed for the next couple of days. You were in and out of either feeling completely numb or being it with all the grief at once. You were questioning reality.
Was this even fucking real…? How could this have happened…? What the fuck were you going to do…??
Throughout those days, you heard many people knocking, coming and going. Not much on your phone anymore, because you had let its battery run out, but when it was on, everyone on the team was calling and texting.
You knew they only wanted what’s best for you and that they wanted to make sure you were okay… But you couldn’t face them. If you faced them, that would mean it was real. And you couldn’t risk that. That would break you. More than you are already, it would shatter you into the abyss.
~~
Months had passed and you had gone from your bed to your couch. Nowadays, it was mostly the numb feeling. You’d gotten rid or moved any and all reminders of your late past wife.
You spent your days sleeping and crying. People always said it got better, but your pain when you felt it, was like the day you lost her. People were bullshit. You didn’t want anyone ever again. You didn’t want this. Didn’t want life.
On a good day, you had just enough energy to make it to the bathroom. Today, you had been in the bath for hours, already having refilled it twice. You had your head laid back as your line of sight hit a bottle of pills on your counter. Your gut tugged at you.
You could be with Casey again…
You leaned far with your arm and grabbed the pill bottle. You spun it in your hands and thought about it all.
She’s gone… never coming back… why not just skip the torture and be with her again…?
~~
“Alex…” Olivia breathed out with a light smile as the blonde ADA strutted down the street and towards the brunette detective with her signature smirk.
Liv, Elliott, and Alex then walked the crime scene and got themselves familiarized with this new case. And when they had a second at the precinct, she pulled Liv aside.
“Hey Liv, I heard about Casey Novak, Y/N’s wife… How is Y/N…?” Alex asked with light concern.
You and Alex went to law school together. You had been really close. Until she went into Witness Protection. Since then neither of you had heard from each other.
“I… Alex…” Liv sighed, rubbing her temples, “I haven’t heard from Y/N in months…”
Alex’s jaw nearly dropped.
“What…??” She exclaimed, “Liv that’s… that’s…”
“I know, I know… I just got caught up in cases and I thought she didn’t want me there by the way it went down and—” Liv rambled.
“No Liv…! It’s— Where does she live…??” Alex said in a panicked and concerned tone.
Liv quickly gave Alex the address, Alex stopped by Cragen’s office to let him know she’d be gone for some time, before the blonde practically ran out of the precinct.
Olivia was quick to follow, having trouble keeping up with how fast Alex was going. But she got to the blonde in the parking garage, stepping in front of Lex’s car before she could drive away.
“Alex! What is happening…??” Liv exclaimed.
“Get in the car!!” Alex called out.
Liv quickly got in the passenger seat and sped away.
“Lex… talk to me please…” Liv softly spoke, interlocking her left hand with her girlfriend’s right hand.
Alex took a deep breath as she sped down the roads to your place.
“Liv… When Y/N and I were in school, she got really close to a professor, she was like a mentor to Y/N… In our last year… that professor died…” Alex breathed out.
“Oh… I’m sorry…” Liv gently said.
“No Liv that’s not it. What’s it is what happened afterwards… Y/N started behaving oddly, becoming more reclusive and anti social… and then…” Alex gulped, and flinched a little at recalling these harsh memories, “Liv, she tried to kill herself.”
Liv’s whole demeanor changed, her eyes going wide. She felt guilt wracking her body.
How could she have been so stupid…? How could she have left you alone for so long…? What if..??
The car screeched to a halt just outside the apartment, and the two women rushed into the building. They ran up the stairs and Olivia had absolutely no hesitation in barging down the door. The women rushed into the room and looked around frantically.
Alex listened for you, and she faintly heard the sound of water running. Her eyes widened and she exclaimed,
“Bathroom, Liv, bathroom!!!!” Alex cried out.
Alex stumbled the bathroom door open and stepped into the overflowing water from the bath that was everywhere. She yelped desperately in distress. Tears started to run down Alex’s cheeks, as she placed a hand over her mouth, the other hand still on the doorknob.
Liv came rushing behind Alex and was just as horrified at the sight as Alex was.
The overflowing water… the empty pill body… your lifeless body..
“We-we need a bus…” Liv stammered into her radio, taking ahold of Alex.
Hell knows they both needed the support…
“It’s not your fault, Liv. Not your fault…” Alex whispered.
“Like hell it isn’t…” Liv breathed out.
Second Circle, Ch. 1
Pairing: Elizabeth Donnelly x f!reader, shades of Alex Cabot x Olivia Benson Warnings: Smut, violence, references to alcoholism Summary: “We are each our own devil, and we make this world our hell.” Based on a request for Liz/f!reader's first time, and my own desire to write a series about Liz navigating romance amidst chaos. Loosely inspired by the events of 2x21 'Scourge' and a few details from 10x8 'Persona'.
---
Although the wind rattled against the windows of the banquet hall and the pinprick lighting of the chandeliers overhead flickered, the murmur of the gala continued on.
The air vibrated, alive with the weight of the tension that had wracked the city in the past few weeks and no doubt fueled by the media machine cranking out headline after headline, each more sordid and gruesome than the last.
Melinda's grip tightened on your elbow as another group approached. Your heart quickened at the sight of short, gelled back blonde hair and the heady perfume that wafted over. Anxiety tore at your stomach with molten claws.
"Doc Warner, glad to see you've made it," a bloodhound of a man said, leading the pack. He gestured towards you with his whiskey glass. "Elliot and Olivia give you enough time to make friends outside the morgue? I must not be pushing them hard enough."
Melinda patted your back. Heavily lined brown eyes scoured you from behind the bloodhound, appraising the manner in which Melinda had touched you. A cold bead of sweat slid down the back of your neck.
"Always glad to see you on the right side of the concrete, Captain," The medical examiner teased. "Especially these days. But yes, believe it or not, I do have time to run in other circles." A man with a voice as calm as the creek that ran beside your childhood home piped up. "Pleased to finally get the chance to meet you," he said with an easy smile and a tip of the head. This man carried himself with a centeredness that was hard to come by, even across the crowd of New York City's top professionals that had congregated that evening. "I've heard about your efforts at Mercy General. I can't imagine what you've had to deal with as of late." It was a line you'd heard plenty of variations of recently, but his sincerity seemed completely genuine. Although his eyes were warm, inviting pools of black ink, you couldn't shake the feeling that somehow he knew. Melinda turned to you with a smile, oblivious. "As you can probably tell, Dr. Huang is our resident psychiatrist," she said. "And a fed, at that," came that harsh, staccato voice you had become attuned to. You bit at the inside of your cheek. The psychiatrist-fed's gentle smirk grew. Thankfully, a pasty, bird boned blonde intruded, reaching out past Huang. "Alexandra Cabot, assistant district attorney," she said, wasting no time.
You shook her hand, surprised at the strength of her grip. Studying her gaze, you got the sense that events like this were easier for her to navigate than they were for other members of the party. She sipped at her champagne lightly and looked around, her stare lingering on the elevators as if she either wanted to leave or wished for someone else to arrive.
"Can't forget her royal highness," the bloodhound Captain joked, gesturing to the woman you'd been struggling not to address.
Dr. Huang spoke again in earthen tones and an air of alacrity. "There's no need to bother, Melinda. The only reason the Bureau Chief wouldn't have led the introductions," he paused, "is if this isn't a stranger to her." Liz rolled her eyes. You subconsciously tugged at the sleeve of the sweater that hung a little past your fingertips. "If you're so perceptive, Agent, then why did a sixth girl show up gutted like a fish at Grand Central this morning?"
---
Liz Donnelly hated courtroom restrooms. She had since the 70's, in fact.
On this occasion, though, she tolerated the lavender soap and the lukewarm water as she used the mirror to study the other woman.
The younger woman next to her scrubbed underneath her nails with a precision so adroit it had to be practiced. "If you're trying to scrub away evidence," the Bureau Chief piped up, "do me a favor and be less obvious." The woman's eyes widened, eyebrows rising. Liz leaned over and tugged playfully at the name tag dangling from the pocket on the woman's scrubs. The woman paused. "If you're trying to flirt with me," she finally whispered, "do me a favor and be more obvious."
The bathroom door swung on its hinges and in strode Olivia Benson, the SVU detective clearly in a tizzy and blind to the way the Bureau Chief and her conversation partner jumped apart like two opposing magnets. The strands on the back of her glossy brown pixie cut stuck up. As the detective ran a nervous hand through them again, Liz understood why.
"Got tired of listening to Cabot try to grill a child? Don't tell me she needs me back in there." Benson shook her head, slumping against the paper towel dispenser. "He got another one."
The detective muttered a quick apology, shifting aside to let the woman in scrubs dry her hands. Liz swallowed thickly.
"Sexually assaulted as well, I take it?" Benson eyed the prosecutor. The detective nodded exasperatedly. "She was an architect. Single, wasn't a user, friends are all model citizens." Benson sucked in her bottom lip and bit at it. "No vengeful ex-boyfriend, at that. Seems she had a gambling habit, but I've know plenty of girls who play the ponies, and all of them are still very much alive."
"However disparate these murders seem, there has to be a connection. Better make good use of that overtime, or you'll have more blood on your hands," Liz jabbed, gesturing towards the sink. The detective's brow furrowed.
"So this is the support we're going to get from our new Bureau Chief? How the hell are-"
Benson paused awkwardly as the woman in scrubs shuffled out the door, paying no mind to the quick finger waggling wave she threw at the prosecutor.
Liz managed a brief smile.
Benson looked towards the door, then back at the wiry woman before her in the starched black pantsuit.
Had there been a window in this particular courtroom restroom, Liz had half a mind to climb out it herself.
---
The bloodhound, whom you now knew as Cragen, thumbed the facets of his whiskey glass at the sound of the announcement.
A gentleman in a well-pressed suit and white gloves had called out across the banquet hall. The gala wouldn't be ending at its scheduled time, due to "inclement weather conditions", meaning the whole ordeal was to proceed for who knows how long. Fortunately, the waitstaff were headed back with fresh bottles and hor d'oeuvres as an apology for the inconvenience.
"I don't mean to pry, but does this have anything to do with-"
He cut you off with a somber shake of his head. He turned to face you, the capillaries webbing along the corners of his eyes swollen.
"This is news to me."
Cragen turned and headed back to the bar with a sniffle.
"They're doing a reasonable job of keeping everyone occupied, at least," came an even voice from behind you. Huang joined your side. Jet black pools still held a mirthful twinkle.
"Tell me something. How long have you and the prosecutor been involved with each other?" "This is the first time Ms. Cabot and I have met," you stammered. "You know that's not who I meant," he countered with a soothing grin. "Forgive my intrusion. You don't have to answer, if you don't want to."
The psychiatrist's musings were an unexpected relief to you. You felt the dam within your chest begin to burst, allowing you to finally speak on something you had kept locked up to yourself these past few weeks. "I'll forgive you, but only if you tell me how you knew," you laughed, tension evaporating from the edge of your voice. Huang nodded to himself.
"That's not your sweater."
You lowered your glass. "It's too long in the arms," he said, gesturing freely. Huang was one of the few who had not been drinking.
"It's not like I have much time to see a tailor," you tried to riposte. "True, but the odds that you and Donnelly wear the same perfume are not favorable," he said with an air of one revealing a royal flush. "My guess is that either she gave the sweater to you, or you're wearing it out of convenience. Alternatively, she could've asked you to wear it, knowing you'd cross paths tonight. She appears to be rather domineering, so that would not surprise me if it were the case."
It took everything in you to fight back the heat that rose in your cheeks at the bounce of his eyebrow.
"You make a hobby out of judging women's perfume?"
"I was a profiler in another life. It was more than a hobby to judge everything about a person." Huang's gaze followed Cragen as he made his way through the crowd across the room.
"Makes for a good party trick, I'll give you that."
Huang paused before turning back to you. His expression held an odd seriousness to it now. "I get the sense that I'm not the only one playing party tricks tonight."
---
Alex Cabot hadn't known Elizabeth for long, but she already didn't care to know the woman much longer.
The younger prosecutor checked her Cartier watch once more, eager for any distraction at this point. Somehow, neither clock hand had so much as budged. She squeezed her eyes shut amidst the bubbling conversation of the crowd in the godforsaken hall and thought of wide, chocolate brown puppy dog eyes and pixie cuts, of handcuffs and coffee cups.
"Alexandra, that look is not becoming on someone like you," an airy tone wafted over.
Lena Petrovsky, New York Supreme Court judge. Fuck. At this rate, she half expected Barry Moredock to round the corner and lecture her about some constitutional disservice she also happened to be encouraging this evening.
"Running all-nighters with the SVU shouldn't be taxing on someone from Harvard Law. But really, you look like hell, try to get some rest after this circus," Petrovsky said, gesturing around them. "You won't be of any use to the city if you keep burning the candle at both ends."
Alex opened her mouth to speak, but a harsh voice speared through her.
"From what I've seen so far, Ms. Cabot is no stranger to circuses," Donnelly jeered.
Alex was certain some snide joke about her courtroom performances was incoming, but she paused, shrieks cutting through the crowd behind them.
---
"This just in: at approximately 11:07 tonight, NYPD discovered the body of a young woman in Central Park. The cause of death? A large wound along the victim's neck, a similar M.O. to the recent string homicides that have shocked the city this past month. Although signs of sexual assault were present, no information is available yet as to the identity of the perpetrator. Investigators have identified the victim as local self-portraitist..."
Liz looped her arm around your shoulders, tugging you out of the bar and onto the street.
"I am not ruining one of the rare nights we both have to ourselves with more of that fear-mongering," she said. You shifted under the weight of the fur coat she shared with you, pressing yourself against her side. Although her voice was firm, you could tell she was rattled. She led you past throngs of men and women in pressed shirts and cocktail dresses, club promoters, and a man stumbling toward you with a box of pamphlets.
"They didn't call me in," you mused. Your brows knitted in confusion. Liz grabbed hold of your chin.
"And they won't," she seemed to command into reality through sheer force of will alone. She brushed her thumb across your lips. Rain gently began to fall overhead. The lights of the cabs clogging the street blurred.
You leaned forward, slipped her thumb into your mouth, and lightly sucked on it.
The prosecutor smirked. You were pleased with the fact that she appeared slightly taken aback by your boldness.
"Come on," she said with a gaze that told you she was a thousand miles away already.
You felt her breath hot against your ear as she tugged you into the back seat of a nearby town car.
"I have something else for you to suck on."
---
"Top her off," Cragen said to the bartender, tilting his glass across the counter.
Across the room, the band still played. The peeling notes of the saxophone reverberated across the inside of his skull. A dull throb continued to pound at the back of his eyes.
Looking down into the amber liquid, Cragen studied the panes of glass that stretched across the ceiling. More rain, more wind.
He couldn't kill in this.
Cragen took a swig.
Elliot and Olivia were still at the station, sifting through tips and folders full of supposed eyewitness accounts. Munch was no doubt trying his best to hold down the fort, but even his endurance, battle-tested over years in Baltimore homicide, was waning.
The brass thought maintaining appearances would comfort the public, although the Captain wondered how all of this pomp and circumstance could reassure anyone but those New York elites with the most fragile of egos.
He took another sip, turning back to watch ADA Cabot and Dr. Huang engaged in what appeared to be a heated argument. At least, heated on the blonde's end. Nearby, Doc Warner was caught in Judge Petrovsky's line of fire. He chuckled into his glass, thankful not to be in the good doctor's shoes.
Further off, Donnelly and the woman Melinda had introduced the group to were headed towards the restrooms. Cragen squinted. The Bureau Chief, with all five foot something's worth of bluster, was leading the other woman hand in hand. Something Arthur Branch had told him once made him chuckle.
Cragen went to take the final swig of his whiskey to finish off the glass, but noticed it was still full.
---
You stumbled through the doorway of Liz's brownstone, her hands quick to pull down your skirt. The door slammed shut. Her mouth pressed hot kisses up the side of your throat. Deceptively strong hands gripped at your ass.
"Upstairs," she husked.
Something fluttered in your stomach. Although you had gotten used to the feeling of the prosecutor's clever tongue in your mouth after a couple coffee dates, the two of you had yet to cross the threshold, so to speak.
Her hands guided you around the corner and up the flight of stairs, toying at the back of your bra. The sensation of her fingers trailing down your spine broke your brain. There could be no anxieties at this point, no thoughts for that matter, only Elizabeth Donnelly and her teeth at your throat and her pillows now pressed up against the back of your head.
The prosecutor leaned over you, nudging your legs aside. She began to drag her knuckle up and down the rapidly dampening fabric that clung to your slit. Heavily lidded brown eyes met yours.
"God Liz, I need you...I need it..."
You were embarrassed at the whine, embarrassed with how wet you already were for the woman.
"Need what?" her voice came coolly. She paused her ministrations to press a finger up against your hole. "This?"
You squeezed your eyes shut. "Please..."
Liz chuckled and hiked up the sleeve of her blazer.
"Since you beg so pretty," she said, "I guess I'll have to oblige."
You felt her tug your panties to the side, the sensation of her pressing a few quick kisses all across your mound and lips sending your heart into a spiral. Shortly afterwards, she helped you kick out of them, and her hands slid up to caress the insides of your thighs. Liz dragged her tongue up through your folds, praising how good you tasted. You moaned unabashedly now, desperation rising to a fever pitch.
"So impatient," she teased from between your legs as she lapped at you. You fought back another whine, the cry dying in your throat as you felt her climb up the bed and tug your body against her. She snaked a hand between your legs and slid a finger into you.
"Fuck, you're tight," her voice strained against a few strands of hair matted against your ear.
Your chest rose and fell rapidly as you tried to reply. "Speak up, sweetheart," she cooed, easing another finger into you.
"I want you to stretch me," you panted, clinging to lucidity.
She bit at your earlobe with a growl, a third finger slipping inside you now. Your head spun at as you felt yourself adjust to take even more of her. The air was now thick with the wet, wanton sounds of her pumping inside you. With each thrust, she stroked at a spot inside you that brought you closer and closer to your peak.
"I-I can't last much longer," you sputtered. You pressed back against her, hips rocking up into her palm. She sucked at a patch of skin underneath your jaw.
"Then cum for me," Liz said, beginning to stroke her thumb along your clit. She curled her fingers inside you and allowed you to roll your thighs against her hand.
The tension gripping your body snapped, your mind careening into the darkness as waves of pleasure rushed over you. Liz kept up her pace, pressing light kisses across your face. She talked you through your orgasm in crisp, honeyed tones in a manner you'd spend the next few days dwelling over.
When your heart finally calmed, she withdrew her hand, savoring the taste of you as she rose up off the bed. You watched her with a confused look, eyes straining against the shadows that cloaked the bedroom.
Her hand threaded into your hair, cupping the back of your scalp. Suddenly, she met you from the side of the bed.
You felt her pull you towards her, your face soon nuzzling up against the fabric of her slacks.
She tugged her zipper open with her free hand.
You wasted no time in starting to cover her panties in kisses, rewarded with a groan as she lolled her head back.
"That's a good girl," she said, voice straining. "Keep it up."
You reached up and tugged them down, lips wrapping around her clit. She laced both hands in your hair, pulling you closer. You leaned up, catching a glimpse of her through heavy lashes.
A thumb caressed your cheek.
"I can't wait to cum all over that pretty face."
You sucked harder.
---
Liz led you towards the restrooms, which were just outside the banquet hall in a hallway not so generously lit. The darkness served the mood well, though. Her mind wandered to thoughts of herself draped over your back, your legs parted wide enough for you to try taking her strap, her hips rutting into you with a ferocity that'd leave you with bruises she was proud to give you.
She wasn't sure if it was the booze or the fatigue calling the shots at this point, but neither prevented her from noticing your hand tugging free from her grasp.
The prosecutor turned in time to catch sight of a white glove cover your mouth.
The return of Casey Novak and Alexandra Cabot was definitely a surprise to everyone, even more after the whole ordeal of finding a new permanent ADA and ending up with people that didn’t stick to the team for long. There had been so many changes that at some point they felt a bit lost on what was going on in the precinct. New detectives joined, another ADA stopped by every single new case, it was a mess. So when both Casey and Alex came back, there was a light that was brought back to the squad, hearing the great news that they’d be sharing cases and helping each other out. Soon enough, the squad became close, both Casey and Alex now joined them for drinks after tough cases or after they won a case, either way, the squad was stronger than ever.
After the new of Olivia and Amanda dating, they became really close with Casey and Alex, being the only women that were part of the squad, somehow they became closer and at some point, girls night became a thing. It was a bit silly for Casey and Alex, even for Olivia, but Amanda encouraged them to keep it going, saying that it was a way to distract themselves from the daily workload and the cases they had to endure every single day, and she was not wrong, it helped as a distraction, it was fun, though they hated to admit it out loud. At some point they started not only meeting for drinks, but also for dinner and at some point they ended up going to Amanda’s house for dinners, board games and drinks; yes, they all had fun the first time, so they kept it going.
Olivia and Elliot were questioning a possible suspect, while Casey and Amanda stood in front of the window watching them work. The suspect was known for having flirting with every possible woman that stood in front of him, which of course Olivia had offered to go inside to play his games and try to get something, any possible information that could help them with the case. Amanda only laughed whenever he seemed to think he was being smart and he was getting all the attention, but in reality Olivia was getting him where she wanted.
“I bet you that Elliot is going to lose his mind in the next 3 minutes.” Amanda grinned as she looked at Casey.
Casey chuckled. “Elliot can last a bit longer. Liv is getting him to talk. Just a little more, and we have what we need.”
“C’mon, Case. You know Elliot. He’ll lose it.” Amanda looked back at them and shook her head.
“What do you bet?” Casey raised her brow and looked at Amanda.
Amanda looked back at Casey and grinned. “If he pins him against the wall in the next 5 minutes, tomorrow’s movie is gonna be a scary one. And not only a horror…but a horror that involves dolls.”
Casey rolled her eyes playfully. “Could you be any more childish, Rollins?” She smiled.
“Afraid to lose, Novak?”
Casey sighed as she nodded, looking back at them. “Fine.”
They both stared back at them, not even 2 minutes later, the suspect tried to touch Olivia and Elliot stopped him by grabbing him by his collar and pinning him against the wall, soon enough being pulled away by Amaro and Fin, trying to get Elliot out of the room. Amanda looked at Casey with a playful smirk and shrugged. Casey rolled her eyes again and grabbed her briefcase, walking out of the room followed by Amanda.
Olivia walked to her desk as she sighed and looked back at Casey and Amanda. “Is that enough?”
Casey nodded. “I could build a case with what he said, there is no way he’s getting out of this.”
Olivia nodded. “Good.” She then looked at her girlfriend and furrowed her brows. “What you smirking at?”
Amanda shrugged. “We’re watching a horror movie, tomorrow.” She grinned. “With scary dolls in it.” She looked back at Casey.
Olivia looked back at Casey. “I thought you hated-“
“Don’t even.” Casey sighed as she looked back at Amanda. “Guess I’ll see you guys tomorrow.” She offered a fake smile and then started to walk away.
“Don’t forget to tell Cabot!” Amanda yelled as she laughed.
“You really like to get on their nerves, don’t you?” Olivia grinned as she looked at Amanda.
“Oh, c’mon Liv. We need an excuse to get these together. What better than a horror movie?” Amanda winked.
“You do know that Alex is gonna come for you.”
“She’ll come to thank me.” Amanda smiled.
Olivia sighed as she kissed her forehead. “You’re going down yourself.” She chuckled as she sat on her desk.
********************
Alex groaned as she took off her glasses, putting them in front of her and rubbing her face softly, feeling the stress getting to her. She had been working on this case for a while now, she was still going over notes and evidence, but if she didn’t make a deal, she was afraid that she’d lose this case. She ran her fingers through her hair and sighed, putting back her glasses on and diving into the file again. But just in time, Casey knocked on her door and suddenly all that stress was vanishing away. She had never said it out loud, and she didn’t think she’d ever say it, but Alex had had the biggest crush on Casey ever since she came back for her own case, sitting in Casey’s office and talking to her had been the highlight of her day -if not her whole year-. Even if Alex was nervous and stressed about being back in courtroom and not exactly doing the questions but answering them, Casey definitely knew how to make her feel relaxed and got a laugh or two, making Alex feel less like a victim. After that day, she wished to see Casey again, but she had to leave again so she never saw her again. Until she decided to come back to SVU and not long after, Casey came back too. Now with the two back, they more time together, working on cases together, helping each other out and then they started hanging out at bars and going for lunch and that’s where their friendship became stronger, and even if Alex wanted to be more than friends, she’d accept having Casey in her life no matter what.
“Case, thought you’d be with the squad.” Alex smiled.
Casey scoffed as she sat down and stretched her legs, groaning softly. “Yeah, well. I’m done over there, we got what we needed.” She sighed. “We have girls night tomorrow. Movie night.”
Alex chuckled. “You look so excited about it.” She raised her brow.
“Kinda lost a bet to Rollins. We’re watching a horror movie.” Casey shrugged.
“A horror movie doesn’t sound so bad.”
“It does when it involves dolls. You know I hate them.”
Alex raised her brow but this time, a serious look on her face. “Oh. Well…you don’t have to watch it, Casey. We can just agree on another movie.”
“I’m not a sore loser, I can do it.”
“Casey…you’ll have nightmares.” Alex chuckled softly.
“I’ll be fine, Cabot. I got this.” Casey smiled. “So, should we leave together after work?”
Alex cleared her throat as she nodded. “Yes, sure.” She smiled.
“Remember to bring comfy clothes.” Casey winked at her as she stood up. “Lunch?” She said as she walked to the door and turned to confirm with Alex.
“I-I’ll be done in 20.”
“Good, meet you in the elevator.” Casey smiled softly and then left the office.
“Casey, you cannot close your eyes at all, understood?” Amanda raised her brow as she looked at Casey, turning off the lights.
Casey raised her hands. “That wasn’t part of the deal!”
“You gotta watch the whole movie, or there’ll a punishment!” Amanda sat between Olivia’s legs and chuckled softly, Olivia wrapping her arms around her.
Casey rolled her eyes as she moved back on the couch, crossing her arms and shrugging. “Fine.”
Alex looked at Amanda and Olivia and raised her brow. “Do we really have to watch this?” She grabbed the bowl of popcorn and handed it to Casey, sitting down beside her.
“Alex, it’s fine. A bet is a bet. I’m no loser.” Casey offered a small smile as she grabbed some popcorn.
Alex nodded softly as she smiled, looking at Casey. “Got it.” She then turned to look at Amanda and Olivia and shook her head before looking at the TV.
Olivia leaned down and whispered in Amanda’s ear. “Told you Alex would come for you.” Amanda shrugged and pressed play.
The movie started off calmly, the four of them getting into the movie. About half way through the movie, a room full of toys was shown, and in some parts of the room, there were those dolls that Casey hated so much. She knew it was a silly fear, it was even childish if she thought about it, but her whole life she had been so scared of those dolls who seemed to have real eyes, it was like they were staring into her soul whenever she saw one. What was the point of making a doll look so real? It was a toy after all. Casey took a deep breath and tried to hold onto the popcorn bowl, trying so hard not to put it in front of her face to over her eyes, she felt herself starting to feel a bit anxious as the camera focused more on the dolls, but before she could do anything else or even think of doing something, she suddenly felt a pair of hands covering her eyes. She jumped slightly but then turned to look at Alex who offered a soft smile.
Alex leaned in and whispered in Casey’s ear. “Amanda never said anything about someone else covering your eyes. You didn’t ask for me to do so.” She grinned as she moved back to her spot but still stayed close to Casey.
Casey blushed softly as she looked at Alex, smiling as she grabbed a handful of popcorn and moved her head back to look at the TV once Alex’s hand moved away, signaling that there were no more dolls for now. Amanda noticed this and looked back at Olvia, and then back at Casey and Alex. She then cleared her throat and said out loud that she’d get more snacks and drinks and for Olivia to help her out, literally dragging her to the kitchen.
“That’s so unfair!” Amanda whispered yelled as she looked at Olivia. “Can’t you say something about it?”
Olivia chuckled as she shook her head. “Oh, no way. I’d like to stay on Alex’s good side, thank you very much.”
“I hate you.”
Olivia chuckled as she kissed her forehead. “No, you don’t. You love me.” She smiled. “And I’ve told you before, dare Casey to confess her feelings for Alex. That’s what you get for not listening.”
“Are you kidding? Casey would kill me, I can’t do that!” Amanda sighed as she looked at the living room.
“Then you’ll just have to accept that this is happening and in no way you’re gonna tell Alex to stop.” Olivia chuckled. “You’re afraid of Alex.”
“I’m not, she’s really nice but…I know she’d definitely kill me if I say something to her, so I guess I’ll just accept this.” Amanda sighed as she walked to the fridge to grab some drinks for the four of them.
Once they walked back to the living room, they noticed that Casey had fallen asleep and not only that, but she had fallen asleep against Alex who now had her arms wrapped around her and her hand holding Casey’s head against her chest. Alex looked up at both women and if stares could kill, they were sure they’d be dead by now. Alex’s stare was always so intimidating, they’d literally do anything that Alex said just so they were safe. They sat back down in silence and continued watching the movie, until it was actually over. Amanda looked back at Alex and cleared her throat, trying to talk as quietly as possible.
“Well…movie is done.” Amanda offered a shy smile.
Alex sighed softly. “I cannot believe both of you thought it was a good idea. Knowing perfectly Casey hates those dolls. She could have nightmares.” She whispered softly, making sure Casey was still asleep.
“Hey, it wasn’t my idea. It was all Amanda.” Olivia said in her defense, getting a slap on her arm.
“Traitor.” Amanda furrowed her brows as she looked at Olivia.
Olivia looked back at Alex and sighed. “Plus, you should be thanking her because you have Casey in your arms.” She grinned softly.
Alex blushed and tried to look away, but her eyes landed back on Casey. “I…I’m not sure what you mean, I-“
“Alex. We know you have feelings for Casey. You have heart eyes whenever she’s around. Why would you try to deny it? Just tell her already.” Amanda shrugged as she smiled.
Alex stared at her with a deadly look in her eyes. “Shut up.” She whispered/yelled.
“All we’re saying, Alex, is that you should tell her, that’s it.” Olivia grinned as she got up to turn the lights back on.
Casey took a deep breath and stretched, groaning softly as she opened her eyes. She looked up to figure out she was leaning over Alex and blushed slightly, sitting back down. “Sorry.” She whispered as she smiled.
Alex cleared her throat, suddenly feeling warm at the sound of Casey’s sleepy voice, it was raspier than her actual voice. “No worries, slept well?”
“I did.” Casey smiled as she looked back at Amanda and Olivia. “Movie’s over?” She grinned.
Amanda rolled her eyes playfully. “Yeah, glad you got through it. Not doing that again.”
Casey chuckled softly, looking down at her watch. “We should probably go. I have arraignments in the morning.”
Alex nodded. “Agree.”
After helping them clean up a bit, grabbing their stuff and saying their goodbyes, both women left the building and got into Casey’s car. Alex loved whenever she got into Casey’s car and she just watched her drive, she felt so at ease and she enjoyed the silence between them, just the two of them. They finally got to Alex’s building and even if Alex insisted for Casey to stay in the car, Casey insisted on walking her to her apartment. They both shared some laughs while in the elevator as Alex told her Amanda’s face when she figured out that Alex was covering her eyes, Casey fascinated as she watched Alex laughing.
“Did she say anything to you?” Casey chuckled as she looked at Alex, walking down the hall to Alex’s apartment.
“No, she wouldn’t dare.” Alex raised her brow as she looked back at Casey once they were in front of her door.
Casey sighed as she smiled. “Thank you, for protecting me from evil dolls.” She chuckled.
“My pleasure.” Alex smiled.
Casey nibbled on her lip as she looked into Alex’s blue eyes, a faint smiling showing on her face. “How about dinner tomorrow?” She smiled. “Just the two of us.”
Alex’s heart fluttered as she stared into green eyes, a shy smile on her face. “I’d like that, actually.”
Casey nodded. “We can leave after work. My treat by the way, I’m the one inviting you.” She smirked.
“Fair enough. Looking forward to it.”
Casey smiled. “Me too.”
They stared into each other’s eyes for a moment, neither of them wanting to move, and then Casey wetted her lips before she leaned in and kissed Alex’s lips softly. Alex gasped softly against her lips, her hands slowly moving to Casey’s neck to pull her closer. The kiss didn’t last long, but it was enough for both of them to feel their bodies getting warm and the usual butterflies they felt whenever they were together. Both smiled against each other’s lips and pulled away slowly. Alex smiled softly as she stroked Casey’s cheeks, a faint blush on her cheeks.
“See you at work.” Alex whispered softly.
Casey only nodded before she grabbed Alex’s hand and kissed the back of it, making her way back to the elevator. “Oh, by the way.” She turned to look at Alex and smirked. “I have feelings for you too, if…that wasn’t clear by now.” She winked at her before she disappeared.
Alex stood there at her door, mouth gaped in surprise. She huffed a chuckle as she shook her head, getting her keys to open the door. “She was awake.” She whispered softly as she chuckled again and walked into her apartment.
