10 Factors That Make an Effective Hybrid Approach to Work
Organisations are continually looking for novel approaches to adapt and stay competitive in the ever changing business world. The hybrid style of work is one such adaptation that has become very popular. With the combination of in-office and remote working alternatives, this model enables workers to work remotely or on their own terms. As this strategy spreads, businesses must take certain elements into account to ensure its success.
In this blog, we’ll look at ten crucial components that make a hybrid work model effective.
Embracing the Need for Flexibility
The primary advantage of adopting a hybrid workforce is flexibility. By allowing employees to work from home or other remote locations, companies open the door to a larger pool of potential talent. This flexibility benefits both employees and organisations, providing a better work-life balance for staff and access to skilled professionals regardless of their geographic location for employers.
Utilising Advanced Technologies
In today’s digital age, technology plays a crucial role in enabling effective communication and collaboration for remote and in-office teams. Implementing instant messaging, cloud telephony, video conferencing, and collaboration tools like Slack, Google Meet, and Zoom ensures seamless connectivity between team members, irrespective of their physical locations.
Building Trust and Accountability
Trust is crucial for the hybrid work paradigm to succeed. Recognising that productivity is not dependent on physical presence, employers must develop trust with their remote staff. Establishing clear goals, giving frequent feedback, and emphasising results over labour hours boost employee performance and promote an environment of accountability.
Creating Flexible Schedules
Scheduling is a significant challenge in hybrid work environments. Balancing the expectations of in-office and remote workers is crucial. Employers must communicate openly with their teams and invest in tools like Google Calendar, Trello, or Asana to create flexible schedules that meet the needs of both parties.
Supporting Employee Productivity
Maintaining productivity in a hybrid work model requires providing the necessary resources and efficient communication tools to remote employees. Investing in modern technologies that facilitate collaboration, project management, and efficient communication can enhance overall productivity.
Fostering Employee Engagement
Employees who work remotely could feel isolated from their coworkers. Even when team members are physically apart, video conferencing tools and team-building exercises can fill this gap and promote participation.
Enhancing Team Building Activities
Creating a cohesive team becomes even more important in a hybrid work model. Engaging in group projects, regular virtual meetings, and collaborative activities helps build trust and strengthens relationships between team members.
Efficient Management of the Hybrid Workforce
Effective management is crucial for the success of a hybrid workforce. Managers should prioritise clear communication, provide support, and ensure that employees have access to the right technologies and resources to perform their tasks effectively.
Choosing the Right Technology
Selecting the appropriate technology solutions is vital for the success of a hybrid work model. The chosen technologies should facilitate seamless communication, collaboration, and data sharing between team members, regardless of their location.
 Crafting a Digital Transformation Strategy
A successful hybrid workforce requires a well-planned digital transformation strategy. This involves not only adopting the right technologies but also ensuring employees are trained to use them effectively, reducing feelings of overwhelm or disconnection.
Considering all this.
The hybrid approach to work is here to stay, offering numerous benefits for both employees and organisations. To make it effective, businesses must prioritise flexibility, embrace advanced technologies, and build trust among their teams. By providing the right tools, fostering engagement, and creating a cohesive work culture, companies can successfully navigate the challenges of managing a hybrid workforce. Embracing this model will not only drive productivity but also position businesses at the forefront of the evolving work landscape.

Scaling Up: Strategies for Taking Your Startup to the Next Level
Congratulations! You've successfully launched your startup, and now it's time to think about the next phase of growth. Scaling up your business can be an exciting but challenging endeavour. It requires careful planning, strategic decision-making, and the ability to adapt to changing circumstances. In this blog, we will explore essential strategies to help you take your startup to the next level and achieve sustainable growth.
Tumblr media
1. Define Your Scaling Objectives:
Before embarking on the scaling journey, it's crucial to have clear objectives in mind. Define what success looks like for your startup and set specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-bound (SMART) goals. Whether it's expanding your customer base, entering new markets, or increasing revenue, having well-defined objectives will guide your scaling efforts.
2. Strengthen Your Core Operations:
Scaling a business amplifies existing inefficiencies, so it's essential to strengthen your core operations before expanding. Analyze your current processes, identify bottlenecks, and optimize workflows for maximum efficiency. Implementing robust systems and streamlining operations will help your startup handle increased demand and maintain consistency as you grow.
3. Focus on Customer Feedback:
Your customers are your greatest asset, and their feedback is invaluable. Actively seek feedback, listen to customer suggestions, and implement improvements based on their insights. Happy customers are more likely to become brand advocates and help you attract new business through word-of-mouth referrals.
4. Invest in Talent:
As your startup scales, you'll need a strong team to support its growth. Invest in recruiting top talent that aligns with your company's culture and values. Hiring skilled individuals who are passionate about your mission will contribute significantly to achieving your scaling objectives.
5. Leverage Technology:
Technology can be a game-changer when it comes to scaling up. Implement scalable and flexible software solutions to automate repetitive tasks, improve data analysis, and enhance customer experience. Embrace digital tools that enable seamless collaboration and communication among team members, especially if remote work is involved.
6. Expand Your Market Reach:
Scaling often involves expanding into new markets. Conduct thorough market research to identify untapped opportunities and assess the feasibility of entering these markets. Tailor your marketing and sales strategies to suit the preferences and needs of your target audience in these new areas.
7. Diversify Your Product/Service Offerings:
Consider diversifying your product or service offerings to cater to a broader customer base. Analyze market trends and identify complementary products or services that align with your core business. Introducing new offerings can increase revenue streams and enhance your overall value proposition.
8. Secure Adequate Funding:
Scaling a startup requires financial resources. Explore various funding options, such as venture capital, angel investors, bank loans, or crowdfunding. Prepare a detailed business plan and financial projections to attract potential investors and secure the funding needed to support your growth plans.
9. Monitor Key Metrics:
To ensure your scaling efforts are on track, monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) regularly. Measure metrics related to revenue, customer acquisition costs, customer lifetime value, and market share. Use these insights to make data-driven decisions and course corrections, if necessary.
10. Maintain a Lean Startup Culture:
As your startup scales, it's crucial to preserve the entrepreneurial spirit and agility that led to its initial success. Embrace a lean startup culture that encourages experimentation, risk-taking, and continuous improvement. Stay adaptable and be willing to pivot if market conditions change.
In conclusion, scaling up a startup is an exciting phase that requires careful planning and execution. By defining clear objectives, strengthening core operations, focusing on customer feedback, investing in talent, leveraging technology, expanding market reach, diversifying offerings, securing funding, monitoring key metrics, and maintaining a lean startup culture, you can set your startup on a path to sustainable growth and long-term success. Remember that scaling is a journey, not a destination, so stay resilient and keep innovating to stay ahead in today's competitive business landscape. Good luck on your scaling journey!

HI CAS! 😁 it’s that time of month again… 🎄🎅❄️☃️ are you a christmas music enjoyer? what’s your november reading looked like? what are the final books you’ll read in 2023? any wintery vibes these are all important questions
I always think I've become indifferent to if not completely turned off by christmas music but just last weekend my coffee shop was playing 'christmas (baby please come home)' n I was like hell yeah this song rules...... & one time my crabby hater coworker put on springsteen's 'santa claus is comin to town' for me + that was such a kodak Magic Of Christmas moment for me I was like wait the grinch really does have a soul.... im a sporadic xmas music enjoyer merely by happenstance 🧘‍♀️ + my november reads were magical!!!
Tumblr media
Regarding the Pain of Others by Susan Sontag
wanted to pair this with Powers of Horror: An Essay on Abjection by Julia Kristeva as a brief little study on representing/projecting and relating to terror but this one was so apt that I thought it'd be best standing alone and allowed to sink in for the month. really interesting/important points about the origins of the 24 hour news cycle + "the CNN effect" + a mass desensitization to the suffering of others, disheartening but necessary things to understand especially now when every feed is so casually interspersed with it. and ofc Sontag is just so graceful with her framing of ideas that I think this is quite an accessible read to those who've never ventured into philosophy/theory
Manila Noir edited by Jessica Hagedorn
MILF (MAN I LOVE FILIPINOS)!!! learning that I maybe love crime fiction? or maybe specifically written by Filipinos bc the Philippines is kinda the perfect place for so many intersections/dissections of class and power and exploitation and all the things that make crime/mystery so juicy to me. the selection here was so strong, I think I ended up shelving something by each of the contributors I could find english translations for. so many women too which rules x10000. also saw that this is part of a series of 'noir' collected works based around a specific area (like SF, Brooklyn, Mumbai, Istanbul, etc) which I think is a super cool concept and I can't wait to track down the others. think this is gonna have to be a noirvember tradition
With my Dog Eyes by Hilda Hilst
read this in one sitting before a wedding so it's admittedly a bit of a blur/I didn't get to sit with it as much as I should have bc Hilst's prose is so dizzying (in a good way!!!) but I've asked for one of her translated works for xmas so I'll defo be giving that one my full + stoic attention 🧘‍♀️ I can vaguely remember the shape of the story but what most sticks out to me when reflecting is really specific phrases... the gold of your name — an armless embrace of you — sado-slippery I’m sweating and laughing... I'm empty of anything good. Full of the absurd.... just really gorgeous syntax and images and I can see why Hilst + Lispector's styles are compared so often
Live Through This: On Creativity and Self-Destruction edited by Sabrina Chap
admittedly wanted to hate this from the very start with Amanda Palmer's intro ugh like I braced myself for this to be some corny contrived #AngryWomenInArt but I ended up adoring this and hating myself for my initial haterisms.... women in art is actually so real..... really great + diverse selection of artists (I was worried this would be overwhelming white + cis + het but luckily it wasn't!) and it honestly didn't even occur to me to read this as like a guide on how to work through/with creativity, but rather glimpses into other artists' processes and journeys with their own creativity (I initially picked this up for Eileen Myles I think). so personal and honest and inspiring because of that intimacy and honesty. felt good when I recognized some of the other names too, but ofc added a bunch to my TBR as well. made me miss rookiemag and generally a time when feminism didn't seem so glazed in layers of girlboss irony + terfism real bad </3
Smaller and Smaller Circles by F.H. Batacan
MILF PT. 2!!! another Filipino crime fiction win.. I did see the reveal coming the moment the character was introduced but all the build-up made it worth it. I loved that no form of power was safe from criticism—sleazy priests/prominent figures from the church, useless police, sensationalist media, mayors blind to the true needs of their community, the smaller and smaller circles (hehe) of unchecked trauma and abuse, the ways these all tie together to inevitably harm those without a voice or pedestal.. does such a great job shining a light on the hypocrisy and corruption of it all which isn't specific to the Philippines but from the few Filipino works I've read, it really does feel like a reoccurring core theme. with such a vengeance too! watched the movie adaptation last night which cut out a lot of the good/necessary stuff in my opinion but the vibes + casting were spot on so it was just cool to see the gritty world come to life in that way
Near to the Wild Heart by Clarice Lispector
BONK this was everything to me like exactly the kind of writing I've been aching for since I was a teenager........ a similar blissful dizziness that I felt reading Hilst — gorgeous sensual painfully moving prose, it's wild to me that a work of fiction could hold this much introspection, each character's state of mind so crystal clearly expressed you can't help but feel a little lost in it. and this is her first book??? I'm thrilled just thinking about how she could possibly hone her craft in later works, I'm so excited to see for myself. this is a sidebar but I pretty much lost all my steam for creative/fiction writing during the pandemic and randomly pushed myself to get back into it in october and between this + Hilst's book I rly do feel more inspired than ever..,. crazy what some beautiful & dreamy sentences can do to you!!
i DONT want to prematurely toot any horns but I think I may actually reach my original reading goal of 50 books this year? just started the last book (Something Wicked This Way Comes) in the 'dark boyhood' trio I planned with my friend and it's going by super fast (probably because it's a childrens book basically LOL) and then I checked out Nana vol 1 & 2 bc I found out my library randomly has them (despite never having anything else I'm ever looking for... like ok) and I usually whiz through graphic novels. I think I may read Powers of Horror as mentioned earlier to balance out the fiction, and I downloaded a few free books by Palestinian authors from here (free to download til Dec 5th) so I'll choose from one of those.. maybe end the year with some poetry, all of which isn't necessarily wintery but simply reading my lil book w a hot drink is cozy enough <3

Act my Age - part 4
Tumblr media
You aim to lose yourself in your studies, at least for the day and somehow, your coworkers seem to notice. No one bothers you with questions, not even Commander Spock demands your attention and you work and work until your shift ends and P-tra has to come and get you for the gathering. You haven’t prepared anything and for a moment you feel self-conscious, but P-tra is smiling brightly at you from the front of the small crowd, eager to get the first question. You smile back and the questioning begins.
After almost two hours of talking, Commander Spock steps in and calls an end to it.
You’re tired, but in a good way, as if all the anxiety has been drained from you.
When your stomach growls, you finally notice how hungry you are and decide to head towards Mess Hall. You haven’t gone far when a redshirt falls into step beside you.
“Hi,” he greets you, stretching out his hand for you to hold, “I’m Lieutenant Cee.”
“Oh,” you stop and take his hand, shaking it, “I’m Y/N.”
He towers over you with his height, but his smile is warm and big, reaches up into his reddish-brown eyes. His skin is brown, a color you have started to miss on New Vulcan.
His smile broadens a bit. “You’re wondering how my name and appearance fit together.”
“A bit. Do you get that often?”
“I do.” He lets go of your hand and gestures ahead, “Want me to tell you the story while we walk towards Mess Hall? Your brother asked me to make sure you eat something.”
“He’s a bit on the protective side,” you joke and start walking again. Gray chuckles.
“So, the story?”
“Well, my family is from India, but my father has some European descent. We don’t really know where he is from, exactly, but I’m named after my grandfather.”
“A good man?”
“A very good man,” Gray answers and smiles again, “I hope I can live up to it someday.”
“And you got your mother’s looks?” You ask because it’s a topic you’ve always been interested in and one he’s obviously not afraid to talk about.
“Yes. I look like Tata. My other grandfather. My younger brother Hrithik is named after him, but he got Grandpa Gray’s looks. It’s a pretty interesting mix, my family.”
“I bet. Genetics is an interesting topic.”
“Didn’t you write a paper about it?” Gray asks and stops in front of the door leading to Mess Hall so you can step in first. A Gentleman, it seems.
“Yes, I did. Did my brother tell you?” You ask, taking a quick look to make sure Mr. Scott is not around. You don’t want to bump into him on this date that doesn’t feel like a date but could be one all the same.
“No, my mother. She recognized your last name. She’s teaching Xenobiology at the Starfleet Academy in Mumbai. You might know her, Admiral Cee is pretty well known..”
“Yes, I know her. And with a mother like her, you decided to become an Engineer instead?” You joke and he smiles at you again. You can easily understand why your brother is friends with Gray and why he thought the man would be a good choice for a date.
“Well, we can’t all go into Science. Who would repair the Replicators then?” He jokes back and you feel yourself blush.
It’s easy to talk to Gray. He is kind and funny and at the time you’ve finished your meal you’ve already talked about a variety of topics, from your thoughts on the shaky peace the Federation has with the Klingons to which planet is the best place for a camping adventure.
He’s attractive, too, you’ve noticed that, but looking at his warm eyes doesn’t make your heart race, or your mouth run dry with nervousness.
Maybe that is what you need, what your brother thinks you need, at least. Someone that won’t make your heart race, your hands sweaty, your mind empty. Or maybe the years on New Vulcan really have changed you, made you forget how to talk to a human man after all. Who knows? You don’t.
“Thank you for this evening,” you say when he walks you back to your room. You had opted to tell him that you would find back just fine, but you had not wanted to say goodbye in the middle of a busy hallway. He smiles, one corner of his mouth lifting a little bit higher than the other.
“It was really nice,” he answers, “Glad your brother sent me to look after you.”
“Yes,” you nod, feeling the conversation steer into awkwardness, “Thank you for doing that, by the way. You didn’t have to. It was nice, though, and maybe… we will see each other around?”
“It’s a big ship…” He starts and you bite your tongue, try to swallow the fear down, fear of something you can’t even name.
“Yes, but, well, you’re best friends with my brother, who is, kind of, related to me, you know? And I know your mother, who is, well, your mother and I-” You hear yourself rambling and see him smiling and you wish you could just stop yourself from talking.
“I will see you again, then,” he cuts you off and you’re thankful for it, “Good night.”
“Good night,” you breath and hold out your hand for him to shake, the years on New Vulcan leaving you with a feeling of dread while doing so because he’s not meant to shake your hand.
“Good night.”
He turns to leave and you slip into your quarters before he can turn around for one last look, sinking against the closed doors with a sigh. You’re so glad you’re alone again.
This time, you’re not even surprised to find your brother sitting on your couch when you open your eyes.
He looks at you with a smile that threatens to split his face apart.
“How did it go?”
“Gray is nice,” you say slowly and think of a way to voice your feelings without making Gray sound less the great man that he is or making you sound like your head over heels in love with him when you’re not.
Your brothers face falls immediately.
“But-” He says and you cut him off.
“No but. I mean it. Besides, is it really a good idea to wait in my own room when I’m supposed to be dating? What would you have done if we had hit it off and stumbled into my room while making out?”
Your brother makes a face. “I know you’re not like that. And if you would, I would…”
“What?” You ask…
“Let’s just not talk about a scenario like that.”
-
The most comforting thing right now? No matter how much you toss and turn in your bed or try to get something out of your twirling thoughts, days and nights end and start anew.
“You look tired,” P-tra greets you when you step into Lab 3 the next morning.
“I am,” you answer and take another sip from the cup of coffee you had to smuggle out from your quarters under the watchful gaze of your brother. It would have been easier to replicate the coffee in the Lab itself, but then again - your own Replicator makes way better coffee now.
“Date night?” She asks with a wink and you choke on your coffee.
“I didn’t… We didn’t… It didn’t mean…” You stutter and P-tra laughs loudly, clapping you on the back.
“Doesn’t matter what it was and what you did. I just saw you with Gray yesterday. He’s a nice guy.”
“He is, but I’m…”
“Not interested?” P-tra smiles and nods, “It’s not easy to be not interested on this ship, I can tell you.”
She looks at the door, whistles an easy tune and steps away from you and towards her work place, when the door opens and Commander Spock steps through, looking over the Lab, eyes focusing on you.
“Lieutenant. We did not have time to go over your process yesterday.”
Right. Work.
“Indeed. If you’ll follow me,” you direct him towards your desk. Working will help you forget how tired you are.
-
“So what’s the deal, exactly?” P-tra asks when you’re sitting on one of the tables at the far end of Mess Hall, “I don’t want to be nosy, but I feel like you might need some female perspective on things.”
You heave a sigh. “I’m not sure. There’s someone I really like, but I’m not sure if it’s just an enormous crush coupled with being nervous. And Gray is really easy to talk to and I could probably grow to feel more for him, but-”
“A relationship shouldn’t be funded on the word but,” P-tra disagrees with a click of your tongue. Her warm eyes are looking over you and you dig your fork into your salad, trying to distract you from your thoughts.
“The way I see it, you should talk to Lieutenant Uhura.”
“What? Why?” You sputter, glad that you had not taken a bite yet.
“Because the way you’re acting, you’re almost half Vulcan and Lieutenant Uhura is successfully dating a half Vulcan. If anyone knows who you’d be better suited with, it’s her, right?”
“I think I’ll stick to my brother’s advice instead,” you disagree, “To other species, Vulcan’s might seem very alike, but they aren’t. And just because the Lieutenant is in a relationship with one won’t make her an expert on my behalf. It is, therefore, logical to seek out the advice of people who know me, instead.”
“That sounds awful,” a voice rumbles behind you and you freeze, your neck stiff.
P-tra looks at you with worried eyes and when you manage to turn your head to your left, it actually hurts from how tense you are.
Mr. Scott is smiling down at you and your heart is in your throat again.
“What do ye need advice in, lass? Can I help?”
“I,” you joke, swallowing dry, “I wanted to ask my brother, because…” Your voice breaks a bit and you clear your throat again, while Mr. Scott looks more interested than you wish him to be.
“Your brother?” He tries to help you out, “Is it about engineering?”
“Yes,” you croak out, glad for the straw he’s holding out for you, “About the training,” you say and he nods, about to say something, when he notices someone waving at him from across Mess Hall.
“I will talk to him, if tha’ is okay with ye, lass,” he offers and you nod because you don’t know what else to do and watch him walk away with a smile and a wave.
P-tra clears her throat and you turn around to her giving you a look that can only mean one thing.
“Please don’t laugh,” you beg, wishing you could just put your head on the table and disappear.
“Why would I laugh?” She asks, her voice calm, but her eyes are betraying her. Her eyes are saying that she wants to know a lot more.
“Because he’s so much older than me?”
“You’re what? In your mid-twenties? That’s not that much of an age difference, considering that your mind must be a lot older if you can survive Vulcan company.”
P-tra winks at you. “Yes, I just called you old.”
You throw your fork at her.

Book Blurb: A young magazine writer in Mumbai must prove her matchmaking skills—and contend with growing feelings for her close family friend—in this debut desi romance. “A delightful friends-to-lovers romance that will curb your sweet tooth and leave you feeling warm and happy!”—New York Times bestselling author Sarah Adams
Confident fashionista Jia Deshpande spends her days writing cliché-ridden listicles for Mimosa, Mumbai’s top women’s magazine. When she can, Jia dishes about the messy truth of real love on her anonymous blog, attends her family’s weekly game nights, and ignores her true feelings for her childhood friend. If that wasn’t enough, Jia needs to successfully set up a coworker with her perfect match to get the green light for her new matchmaking column. Thankfully, organizing meet-cutes has never been difficult for her.
Local pub owner and cocktail genius Jaiman Patil can’t help but be enamored with Jia and her meddling spirit. He’s always been an honorary part of her family, but even more so since his own moved to America. Life with the Deshpandes is chaotic and loud, but it’s also more loving than anything he experienced growing up, and he wouldn’t risk losing that for the world. It feels manageable—until his pub begins to struggle and his long-hidden feelings for Jia grow deeper.
When Jia’s attempts at office matchmaking go haywire, risking new friendships and her relationship with Jaiman, she must reevaluate her own thoughts on love. For the first time, Jia Deshpande realizes that love may be a lot more complicated than she thought. Luckily, happily-ever-afters are never in short supply in Mumbai.
Review:
A modern day Emma retelling about a romance advice blogger and her childhood friend, a local pub owner? I loved this! This was such a cute and fun fresh take on the classic story of Jane Austen's Emma! Jia Deshpande spends her day writing listicles for Mimosa, Mumbai's top women's magazine and her free time writing about the messy truth of real love on her blog... and trying to ignore her feelings for her childhood friend. Jaiman Patil is a local pub owner and a cocktail genius who has been in love with his childhood best friend, Gia for the last 15 years. Ever since they kissed each other during a wedding he's known that she's the one for him... except she ran away and then told him to pretend it never happened and he's willing to do anything to just spend time with her. Jaiman is struggling to keep his pub open and to make it... and his feelings for Jia are only getting harder to control... and since she only wants him as a friend he's begun to secretly write to her under a different name. Jia begins trying to matchmake at her office and things take a turn. Her friendship with Jaiman is also changing... and she's beginning to realize that love is more complicated than she could have ever imagined and that maybe her happily ever after is right next to her, if only she would talk to him and finally talk about what happened on the night they kissed. This was a really sweet and fun read and as a huge fan of Emma, this was such a delight. I loved how it had elements of the classic but also was a fresh take on it as well. Jaiman was such a swoony and amazing love interest for Jia. I loved their dynamic, how they were both so in love with each other but just couldn't take the leap just yet. I would absolutely recommend this for fans of Emma, the friends to lovers trope, and just a good romance book!

ARC Review of Match Me If You Can by Swati Hegde
Tumblr media
Rating: 3.75/5 Heat Level: 2/5 Publication Date: June 4th
Premise:
A modernized Emma set in India; Jia Deshpande is a rich Mumbaikar who writes for a women's magazine. She wants to start her own matchmaking column, something she can achieve if she successfully sets two coworkers up. Jia goes ahead with the plan despite warnings from her best friend Jaiman Patil, who has long harbored feelings for her.
My review:
This is a charming, effervescent take on Emma set among the upper classes of Mumbai. Jia aspires to be a matchmaker and secretly gives romantic advice on her blog in direct contrast to the content she puts out through the Cosmo-esque magazine she writes for. She's pragmatic about love while still being fairly naive, thus her mostly-unfounded confidence in her matchmaking abilities. Reading her deluded attempts at match-making office lothario Eeshan and village-transplant Charu was painfully entertaining in the best way. But like any well-written character inspired by Emma, Jia is so upbeat and (mostly) well-meaning, you can't help but root for her.
The interesting thing about this book's Mr. Knightley, Jaiman, is that he has plenty of problems of his own. He's not just Emma's paternal, perpetually-chastising friend (though to be clear, I'm not saying this is a bad thing at all); he's the owner of a struggling bar who has never quite lived up to family expectations. There's also this culinary/career rivalry he has going on with the Frank Churchill of the story (a South Indian guy named Harish who comes up with a quite frankly FABULOUS restaurant concept: Vodka & Vada). Jaiman is also Jia’s childhood friend and hopelessly in love with her. The result is a (very) slow-burn friends-to-lovers romance.
I actually really liked that Jaiman attempted an ill-fated kiss with Jia a year prior to the story beginning, and it ended with Jia crying about not wanting their relationship to change and she refuses to talk about it afterwards lolol. I thought it was a great place to start the story because Jia isn't entirely oblivious to Jaiman's feelings, and she privately admits she’s only ever felt attracted to him, so the tension is there. That being said, the author never really developed this tension or dragged it out as much as she could have. There are multiple instances where there's great set-up, like the time Jia puts on her dead mom's wedding lehenga and Jaiman walks in on her, and she asks him to unzip her. He does, but there's minimal touching or talking, and Jaiman just walks out within the next paragraph. I felt similarly about the time they dance together, as well as the entire mystery blog correspondent subplot.
The sex:
There are a couple kisses, mostly near the end, and there is one closed-door sex scene.
Overall:
Overall, this book was humorous and light and I enjoyed it, though I wished the romance had developed more. I'd recommend it to anyone looking for a frothy, diverse romcom!

What is a Sustainable Coworking Space and How to Create it?
Coworking spaces have altered the way people work in recent years by encouraging community, creativity, and collaboration. But as environmental issues gain prominence, it is clearer than ever that sustainable coworking spaces are needed. In addition to being environmentally responsible, a sustainable coworking space aids businesses in lowering their carbon footprint and offers its members a productive and healthy workspace.
In this article, we’ll examine what makes a sustainable coworking space, as well as how to design one that’s advantageous to both your company and the environment.
Understanding Sustainable Coworking Spaces
A sustainable coworking space is an eco-conscious work environment that integrates environmentally friendly practices and resources into its daily operations. Its core principles encompass conserving resources, minimising waste, and promoting a positive impact on the environment and the community it serves. Such workspaces adopt a holistic approach to sustainability, addressing factors such as energy consumption, waste management, indoor air quality, and social responsibility.
Key Elements of a Sustainable Coworking Space
Energy Efficiency: To reduce the greenhouse gas emissions, sustainable coworking spaces implement energy-efficient lighting systems, appliances, and heating/cooling systems. Incorporating natural light and ventilation into the design can further optimise energy usage.
Renewable Energy Sources: Harnessing renewable energy sources like solar panels or wind turbines can significantly contribute to the space’s sustainability objectives.
Eco-Friendly Materials: From construction to furniture, opting for eco-friendly and responsibly sourced materials ensures a reduced environmental impact. Use sustainable wood, recycled materials, and non-toxic finishes to furnish the space.
Waste Management: Implementing a comprehensive recycling program and encouraging members to adopt responsible waste disposal practices are essential in sustainable coworking spaces.
Sustainable Office Supplies: Choose eco-friendly office supplies, such as recycled paper, refillable ink cartridges, and non-toxic stationery.
Creating Your Sustainable Coworking Space
Set Clear Sustainability Goals: Determine your eco-friendly objectives, both short-term and long-term, and create a roadmap to achieve them. Involve your members in the process to foster a sense of ownership and responsibility.
Energy Audit and Efficiency: Conduct an energy audit to identify areas where you can improve energy efficiency. Invest in LED lighting, motion sensors, and energy-efficient appliances to conserve electricity.
Biophilic Design: Embrace biophilic design principles by incorporating plants and natural elements into the workspace. Not only does this improve indoor air quality, but it also enhances productivity and well-being.
Promote Green Practices: Educate your members about sustainable practices and encourage them to participate in eco-friendly initiatives. Organise workshops or seminars on sustainability to raise awareness and build a conscious community.
Collaboration and Networking: Foster collaboration among members with similar sustainability interests. Encourage networking and partnerships to create a stronger and more impactful eco-friendly ecosystem.
Summing it up
A sustainable coworking space is more than just a trend; it is a conscientious effort to protect the environment while nurturing a thriving and productive work environment. By integrating eco-friendly practices, energy efficiency, and responsible resource management, you can create a space that promotes sustainable workspaces while supporting the well-being of your members and the planet. As the demand for coworking sustainability continues to rise, adopting green practices today will not only benefit your business but also contribute to a greener and more sustainable future for all.
