So I decided to finished dragon ball daima… and I now have a new favorite character
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Majin kuu my beloved little guy
He’s very silly and not at all serious I love him so much, he’s genuinely a sweet character like not a single evil bone in this guys body.
He’s mostly my favorite just because of his personality and how he acts around others, also he’s apparently a great singer! (No there’s no episode where he actually sings he just says he is..)
Also because he reminds me of Adamai.. anyway he’s an absolute cutie and I cherish him with my SOUL.

What do you all think of fans (i think the majority of those, are male fans) complaining about the Bulma and Vegeta bath time gag in Daima's latest episode? I read many comments complaining that "Vegeta would never", "they killed his character", "what about his pride", etc.
I tend to think that this is meant to tie into his character development.
● Although he remains a warrior and loves fighting, proving himself to be the best is no longer his sole objective and obsession. Post-Buu, he still wants to achieve great things and be the best, but that desire is no longer consumming him.
● That he would be willing to give up fighting for Bulma. Just like when he refused to go train/fight when Bulma was close to giving birth in Super. And it's even implied, that Vegeta is not staying behind solely because "Bulma would get mad", but because he is genuinely excited about the event and seeing their child.
(And also of course, it was a lightearted OG dragon ball type of gag which Daima, since the beginning, said they were aiming for.)
Curious to see what fans on Tumblr may think of this.
Was the scene out of character for Vegeta?

Note
Ever since that VegeBul gag came up in Daima, there's something that been bugging me. I think Modern DB gives the pair too many moments and given how I still feel like Yamcha getting dragged over coals needlessly and Vegeta never truly paying for his sins (your theory of Bulma being the female version of Frieza aside), it just like too much of a happy ending for the pair, I guess (Well, Vegeta at least)
I like the VegeBul moments, personally. To me, Bulma domesticating Vegeta into being her Surrogate Goku while Yamcha goes off with his new girlfriend is the best possible outcome for all three characters.

Hasegawa, Ikumi as Masaki (Mayonaka Punch)
Ueda, Hitomi as Yoshino (Yakuza Fiancé)
Seki, Toshihiko as Muzan Kibutsuji (Demon Slayer Hashira Training Arc)...This arc may have sucked, but he acted the shit out of it.
Inoue, Kazuhiko as Nyanko Sensei (Natsume Yuujinchou shichi)
Nagase, Anna as Harley Quinn (Isekai Suicide Squad)
Fujita, Saki as Koshi Torako (My Deer Friend Nokotan)
*I don't watch enough dubs to do nominations for English voice actors, but I want to shout out SungWon Cho as Senshi from Dungeon Meshi and Abby Trott as Ayase from Dandadan. They understood the assignment.*
So there you have it! My picks for the real anime awards of 2024! Don't take this seriously at all, it's just something fun I like to put together every year. I always try not to nominate the same things, but it's so hard to include a variety sometimes! 😅

Talking about anime, time to mention the shows I’m watching this season:
Tumblr media
Dandadan
I remember trying the manga when it first came out, dropped it after the second chapter since I fucking hate high school shit, but the anime looked well animated and the intro kicks ass, so I gave it a second chance and hooooly shit, it’s really fucking good! The start is indeed sloppy, but once aliens and spirits make their debut, it’s all uphill from there!
Great animation, characters and fight scenes galore, plus a surprisingly heartfelt and tragic story in the seventh episode, 10/10 so far!
Tumblr media
Ranma 1/2
I grew up with the OG series, so it holds a special place in my heart, and man if the remake hasn’t disappointed me in the slightest! Great animation, amazing music, the characters feel even more charming than before, and even Akane got toned down from her bitchy self I still clearly remember from way back when.
Apparently the adaptation is much closet to the manga than the OG series, hence why it has faster pacing and somewhat more mellowed characters, and after reading that that means that piece of shit happosai is no longer becoming a recurring nightmare, I can honestly say I’m even more excited for this one !
Tumblr media
Dragon Ball Daima
I’m latino, if I don’t watch this I’ll be banned from ever enjoying arepas again… Naw, I’ve been watching Dragon Ball for basically all my life, so of course I have to watch this one, plus OG DB was always my favorite, and this one truly captures the essence of that story!
Also, since its kid Goku again, his stupidity, which Super turned up to 11 for no good reason, finally makes in-universe sense, so that’s another plus!
Tumblr media
TsumaSho
What everyone, myself included, wrote off as yet another ultra degenerate anime, this time about a dead wife reincarnating as a 10-year okd child, turned out to be quite the wholesome, if ultimately tragic (especially after the last episode ) series about a broken family of a dad and an adult daughter slowly recovering from 10 years of grief and darkness after the said death wife AND mother comes back and basically tells them “time to get your shit together you stupid idiots”, which, they do.
The mom character is the best, as while she’s reconnecting with her old family, she has to deal with her new one in the form of a broken divorced mom who keeps unintentionally hurting her, all because her own home life was a living nightmare, while her love life is nothing but betrayals.
It sorta reminds me of the weird telenovelas I used to watch at a friend’s house, but in a good way, don’t let the weird premise drive you off, it is not perverted in the slightest!
And that’s about it! I tried another anime about a slime girl, dropped it one episode in (I didn’t like its humor), then another about a sentient robot arm thing, dropped it after the third episode (mainly because the tone was all over the place), and another about the fan of a magical girl accidentally becoming evil, kinda like THAT degenerate anime from the beginning of the year, only not degenerate, gave it a try because of that, turned out to be the most boring shit I’ve ever watched in a long while.
Honestly, this season has been weak in terms of number of good shows, but man the ones that are actually good are FANTASTIC!

FINISHED WATCHING DAIMA IN TWO DAYS
As always, the timeline is fucked, there's a shit ton of plot holes, some fights drag on for a little too long, and Vegeta gets shafted,
But I liked the show!
Animation popped off, it had the old school dragon ball story feel, and some of the jokes made me laugh LOL
Tumblr media Tumblr media
After they teased the fusion bug I literally couldn't stop begging for a new veg/Goku fusion
JUST IMAGINE THE POSSIBILITY!!!!😭😭😭😭
Tumblr media
Also Hybis is hands down the best daima character don't @ me

Day of international mourning: Akira Toriyama, the creator of DRAGON BALL and Doctor Slump has passed away.
He actually passed one week ago and it was announced today.
Tumblr media
Toriyama was also a character designer for Chrono Trigger and the Dragon Quest series, alongside Dragonball Z designer Tadoyoshi Yamamuro.
Tumblr media
He was about to launch a bizarre new dragonball super anime. Daima is now going to be the last major work of Toriyama's. He said he was a lot more involved with the short series than he was with Super itself, so i wasn't surprised to see it's very silly and lighthearted. As much as fans reject it - That's his style. It's what he loves doing.
youtube
To the world, Toriyama was the father of shonen manga. The unique tone of Dragonball and its intense fighting invented a whole new genre. Toriyama's panelling and art style is in many ways still unmatched, simple and chunky while also allowing for great detail, perfect to show off the best impact.
Read right to left:

To me, Dragonball was the entire reason I picked up pens and started drawing at the age of 4.

Winter 2025 Anime Round-Up
I always get so lazy when it comes to doing things. You'd think I'd be used to it by now...My Happy Marriage still has two episodes left but I'm not going to wait for them (I'm barely paying attention to that story to begin with). Also decided to change the formatting a bit cause looking back at my older round ups is killing my brain.
Anime of the Season: Orb: On the Movements of the Earth
Best Opening: Kaijuu (Orb: On the Movements of the Earth)
Best Ending: NOX LUX (Re:ZERO Season 3) & Georgette Me, Georgette You (Bang Dream: Ave Mujica)
Drops: Zenshu
Plans to Watch at a later date: N/A
Completed:
Tumblr media
Dragon Ball DAIMA - (7-10)
Not gonna indulge in this series too much out of respect for it being the last work that Toriyama will ever write for this franchise. I had my issues but it was, through and through, everything I loved about Dragon Ball growing up as a kid. Thanks for everything, Toriyama
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Danmachi Season 5 - (7-10)
The long break between episodes killed this rating from being higher. Nevertheless, Danmachi is still very enjoyable and one of the best in the fantasy light novel genre. (Not a high bar but still worth noting)
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Orb: On the Movements of the Earth - (10/10)
When I try and write down what makes this show so unique. I can't help but feel like I'm downplaying it immensely. I could never predict what happened in this show and that the experience all the better. All the characters made such a long lasting impact that left some of the best introspective experience I've had in television, not just anime. You'll probably never find another anime like this, and for good reason.
Was very tempted to remove a point for the night scenes being too damn dark but I couldn't
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Sakamoto Days - (7/10)
This show didn't really do anything special for me, outside of being a show with an adult cast. But I do appreciate how silly it was and how much fun the characters were when we weren't supposed to take them seriously. Can't wait for Season Two
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Blue Exorcist: The Blue Night Saga - (8/10)
VOLN redemption? In the 2025? Not the craziest thing to happen this year. As I mentioned previously, this season was a massive step up in quality from the previous two. Maybe the smaller cast and more contained story worked in it's benefit, but I was very impressed.
Fuck Aniplex tho
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Re:ZERO Season 3 - (8.5/10)
The most passionate anime team continues their 9 year run of making this source material as enjoyable as it can be. Even with all the staff shuffles, Re Zero managed to handle all the action spectacles with lots of deft and creativity. Don't know what else to say, Re:zero still good y'all.
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Bang Dream: Ave Mujica - The Die is Cast - (8.5/10)
The show gave me brain damage, but it also blew me away in what you can accomplish with a passionate team of writers and directors. I hope the industry can learn from this show in just how creative and bold you can be when you have absolute free reign (and kinda unhinged).
I need to be checked into an asylum.
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Blue Box - (7/10)
A good show that I got bored of quickly when I realized best girl wasn't going to win.
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Solo Leveling: Season 2 - Arise from the Shadow - (8/10)
Still blown away at how much I love this shit. Absolutely stupid but also incredibly shameless in how much fun it is. Coupled that with an anime studio that went well above and beyond in presentation; Solo Leveling continues to be pretty damn great
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
Medalist - (8/10)
ENGI redemption arc is insane 😭
Actual peak sports anime. All the praise and success that this manga had is absolutely deserved. Inspirational story bout never being too late to accomplish your dreams and the important relationships between mentors and students. S2 gonna be so good
-----------------------------------------
Tumblr media
My Happy Marriage S2 - (6.5/10)
Still pretty much the same as S1. which I enjoyed, so no reason why I wouldn't enjoy more of it. The current arc that it's in is boring me to death, but I love seeing these two fall more and more in love with each episode. I'm hoping the last two episodes can stick the landing, but that score will most likely remain the same.

Hello, Hospital, My Old Friend
Well, friends, it's been the week from hell and I'm now sure my husband, Kevin, was born above an ancient burial ground which cursed him with bad luck. Long story short (shared with Kev's permission), he's been in and out of the ER after a medical condition we were monitoring finally decided to pop, which has resulted in him being catheterized and fairly immobile.
Add the drama of an insurance company that decided to drop us without notice during the middle of this crisis. This sudden drop in coverage caused the medications he needs to live to be about $1200 and his desperately needed urgent specialist visit to not be covered. Thankfully, we were able to sort out new coverage that let us use co-pay coupons for the meds at least.
(UHC was the culprit who dropped us. We should've known better than to trust them considering how they've been in the news lately for being The Literal Worst. Good riddance to this trash company!)
Now, we're just taking it one day at a time waiting on tests. Hoping for the best (which is likely surgery to alleviate his medical issues) or the worst (possibly prostate cancer).
If you've requested or are considering a character commission from me, I ask for your patience while we deal with our situation. Depending on how things go, I may have to stop accepting commissions altogether to focus on Kev's health if we must take a second journey with cancer to remind it who is boss. I'm praying our outcome will be the better of these situations, but we're planning for the worst and hoping for the best.
Friends have asked us if there are ways to help and, while we're not in dire need, we won't say no to extra help to make life easier during a tough time.
Ways to Help
Many of you are already supporting my Patreon, which I'm so thankful for. Here are some other ways you can help us out:

Now, the most important question to ask you all. What tv shows are you watching? We could use some suggestions to watch during the wait between appointments. So far, we've been watching Parasyte: The Grey and Dragonball DAIMA.

Time for my little review of Dragon Ball Daima episode 2 !
It was a good episode, I enjoyed it a lot!! Really, for now Daima is great and doesn't disappoint me !
Some little things about the series :
I don't remember if I said it before, but Daima is visually beautiful. The animation, designs, character designs, everything is great and cool to watch ! Which is by the way amazing after the visual mess that Dragon Ball Super was.
The opening and ending are great 🎶
Now about the episode in itself :
The lore keeps being amazing and interesting ! That little thing about how the Namekians/Namekujin left the Daima world was very interesting, for example !
I love the little teasings about the characters and their lives. For now many of them are mysterious, we all want to know more about them, and this episode does a good job teasing us a bit and making us even more interested ! The parts about Gomah, about Kaïoshin's past and his brother, about Neva's backstory... I am hyped not gonna lie ! I can't wait to learn more about Neva, to understand why they said Gomah was so dangerous while for now he just looks like a clown, to know what's Kaïoshin's relationship with his brother...
The humor was great. Seriously, it was so funny. That line when Shenron said he only gave three wishes to the regulars cracked me up lol. All the episode was funny and I really liked it!
Gokū with his Nyoibō!!!! One of my favourite parts!!! I was so happy to see Gokū with his Nyoibō again!!! I had missed it!! The Nyoibō was such an important object in the first Dragon Ball series/at the beginning of the manga, it was emblematic, and I had missed it in DBZ/DBS/the rest of the manga, so I was sooooo happy (and a bit nostalgic!) when I saw Gokū with it again!
Kid Vegeta is adorable. Nothing to add.
I love Gokū's personality and energy, in this ep and in the first two. He looks more like himself, and it's cool. DBS gave him such a shitty personality, and I was afraid we would see that version of him again, but for now it's not the case and it's a good thing!
Gokū as a kid is even more adorable. Still nothing to add.
I like how Bulma treats Kibito as her servant. Go on Queen.
The seiyus (voice actors) are amazing! Masako Nozawa is OF COURSE incredible but I'll talk about it later because she deserves her own point haha. I didn't mention it a lot after the first episode because the characters we love didn't talk that much, but the seiyus are great. Of course, it's still weird to hear that new voice for Bulma, but her original seiyu died (💔) some years ago so they didn't have another choice, her new seiyu honestly does a great job! Same for all the other seiyus, I love the new characters' voices, and the seiyus of the characters we already knew are still doing a perfect job! For now in Daima, I especially love Vegeta's and Piccolo's seiyus' work - and obviously the best is still queen Masako Nozawa !
Masako Nozawa. What can I even say about her ? What a queen, what a goddess, what a legend. Those of you who only watch the dub don't know what you miss because NOBODY can voice a character the way Masako Nozawa voices Gokū, and nobody can voice Gokū the way Masako Nozawa voices Gokū. There's no word to describe how talented she is, how incredible Gokū's voice is, how amazing the passion she puts in her work is! Can you believe that she's almost 90??? That's CRAZY. She's a LEGEND.
It was so, so, so great to hear her voice Kid Gokū again! I love her Kid Gokū voice! I was smiling like an idiot during the whole episode just because of that! And of course it made me nostalgic but in a happy way haha, I had flash-backs of Kid Gokū meeting Bulma for the first time and going on adventures with her and I loved it.
The only little thing I didn't like was Neva saying he couldn't bring back the Dragon Ball like he did a second time. Didn't seem very logical, it kind of sounded like script facility, it was a bit lazy. Of course they couldn't make him do that twice but it would have been better if they'd explained why before. But that's like... a very very little flaw so it doesn't really matter. Edit : someone in the comments told me that they thought Neva was just fucking with us because he didn't want Gomah to do what he wanted to do with that wish and it actually makes a lot of sense, I think it's what happened!
I WANNA SEE GOHAN. WHERE IS GOHAN? I just KNOW something will happen with him, but what? Can't wait to know!
Anyway, this episode was really great, I really like Daima so far, I am sooo hyped and I can't wait to see the next episode!
Hope everyone enjoyed it too :)

Dragon Ball Daima: Oops! All Babies
Tumblr media
I think the word is already out on this thing. Turns out all the rumors about a new Dragon Ball anime featuring a de-aged Goku were mostly true. But it's not "Dragon Ball Magic", it's "Dragon Ball Daima". And while the Supreme Kai is in the trailer, so are a lot of other characters, so it remains to be seen if he's in the lead like the "Magic" rumors had suggested. As far as the name goes, "Daima" is apparently a word Toriyama made up, so "Magic" may have been a best-guess attempt to translate it into English, or maybe it was a working title used behind the scenes, sort of like how they called "Return of the Jedi" by the name "Blue Harvest" during production.
Anyway, the trailer features lots of characters being turned into small children, not just Goku. Some characters are unaccounted for, most notably Gohan. I'm not sure how to interpret this. It could mean he's not in the show at all, and he was unaffected by whatever caused this. But my guess is that they only had so much footage they could put in the trailer, and someone decided Kid Gohan wasn't very helpful from a promotional standpoint. I mean, we saw a lot of Kid Gohan in DBZ. Showing a Kid Gohan in Daima might have led to confusion about the show's continuity.
I'm not... particularly interested in the adults-turned-to-kids gimmick. I don't hate it, but it doesn't mean much to me. The characters look adorable, and that's great, but it's not exactly groundbreaking.
What does interest me is the message from Akira Toriyama at the panel where they unveiled the trailer. I like it because it gives me some assurance that Daima won't fall into the same pitfalls as GT. Let's discuss.
A transcript, first, in case you couldn't read the image at the top of the post:
Hello. I’m Akira Toriyama.
I’m currently working on a new Dragon Ball. The Title is “Dragon Ball DAIMA”.
“DAIMA” is a made-up term, which in Japanese characters would be “大魔” or in English would be something like “Evil.”
Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world! It’s a grand adventure with intense action in an unknown and mysterious world.
Since Goku has to make up for his petite size, he uses his Nyoibo (Power Pole) to fight, something not seen in a long time.
I came up with the story and settings, as well as a lot of the designs. I’m actually putting a lot more into this than usual!
Things will unfold that close in on the mysteries of the Dragon Ball world. Hope you enjoy these different-from-usual battles that are cute and powerful!!
— AKIRA TORIYAMA
All that really matters here is the part where he says why the characters get turned into kids. "Due to a conspiracy, Goku and his friends are turned small. In order to fix things..."
I spent like two months this year complaining about Dragon Ball GT, and pointing out all its various flaws and shortcomings, and here Toriyama sums it all up without even really talking about GT at all. The big problem with GT was not that they turned Goku into a child. The problem was that they turned Goku into a child and then did nothing about it.
I know a lot of fans like GT, but that isn't the point. The point is that when Goku turns into a kid in the first episode, it's presented like a big problem, an obstacle the hero must overcome. The implication is that Goku has to go on a quest to restore himself to normal. Except that's not the problem. The Black Star Dragon Balls are the problem, and Goku can't even think about using them to turn himself back, because they'll destroy the Earth.
So the viewer might be led to assume that the show is actually about Goku learning to adapt to this second childhood. Well, no, because he very quickly decides that it doesn't matter much to him. The only real drawback to his kid body is that for some reason he can't teleport or use Super Saiyan 3. But then he discovers Super Saiyan 4, which can teleport and it's stronger and stabler than SSJ3, so yeah he's arguably better off than he was before.
So what was the purpose of making Goku a kid in GT? I don't know, I guess Toei thought he would look cool that way. Well, fair enough, but that's like giving Goku a haircut, or a new pair of shoes. You don't market a show on a mere cosmetic change. GT presented Kid Goku like a problem that would be central to the series, and then did their best to ignore it for the next 63 episodes. And this hurts everything else they tried to do with the show, because all of the villains and aliens and battles ring hollow when they don't have anything to do with Goku being turned into a kid. If GT could have fixed that fundamental problem, it might not have fixed everything I hated about GT, but it would have at least made the show feel more satisfying to watch.
What I'm driving at here is that Toriyama understands that you can't just de-age your characters for no reason. There has to be a plot-driven reason behind it, or it's just a cheap gimmick. And there is a reason in Daima. There's a conspiracy, and somehow it led to Goku and the gang getting turned into kids. This isn't just Emperor Pilaf making a stupid wish without thinking. Someone did this on purpose. I don't know why someone would do this. Maybe it's an unintended side effect of some other action, but it's still a deliberate action that will set the plot into motion.
And this version of Goku may not care about being de-aged, just like the GT Goku didn't care, but Daima Goku is still going to do something about it. We know this because "In order to fix things, they’ll head off to a new world!" The conspiracy is a problem to be solved, and Goku's going to go to this "new world" to solve it.
This is important. I can't stress it enough. This is why Akira Toriyama is so good at what he does. I'm not saying he's flawless, but most of the criticisms I see leveled at Toriyama don't hold water. The guy knows how important it is to connect all the story beats together.
Of course, Daima could still fall flat. I mean, the Zamasu arc was terrible, so maybe this thing will turn out to be a stinker too. But at least I can rest easy knowing this won't just repeat all the mistakes GT made.

the baby talk fic for piccolo
That's not fair
Bulma abuses the dragon balls for plastic surgery
😿
Why can't I have a kid?
Also there surely must be a window of time where there is no danger?
I was gonna say namek would work but no.
Whis may have made a blanket for when bulla was born or moved it while moving her out of bulma,so nevermind
Supreme kai does life, can't he, no wait he just kinda influences it, old kai respects evolution so it might be a problem and it shows that indeed evolution played a part after the first life spark was made by them
So it's not literal from what I'm seeing
I haven't seen daima yet
...super dragon balls? The planet sized ones? I mean if you can get them without a tournament which might kill the universe
if anything, sigh, the cell treatment will have to be done. Different dna spliced.
Dearest anon,
the short answer is: it wouldn’t be a very interesting fic if they just used the dragon balls. They’re a canon dues ex machina.
I’m someone who likes trying to fit my ideas into canon and using the Dragon Balls is just too easy. Not using them is a very deliberate choice.
In the fic itself though? Personally I believe Piccolo does not approve of the nonsense wishes (evidenced by the Superhero movie.) The best course of action would be to tack on their wish with another more “important” wish. Reader also canonically has a different relationship with the dragon balls, she knows they’ve been used to resurrect people, to help people change their lives.
How would Piccolo and Reader feel if they used the dragon balls to create a baby and sometimes within that year one of their friends died? In my mind, they’re always the most worried about Gohan but also the other characters. They don’t want to be the cause of someone missing a year or more of their life.
A big reason Reader wants a baby because of Pan, what if Gohan died and they couldn’t resurrect him. So Gohan has to miss the first year of their baby and Pan’s life?
Secondly, I don’t see Piccolo being someone to ask another being like Kai or Whis or even Dende for help in this situation. Piccolo and Reader don’t even plan to tell Gohan and Videl - their best friends about this anytime soon. He’s very private specifically when it comes to Reader (character).
(Big) Spoilers under the cut
There was a time when Baby Talk might have ended with the first chapter. In the beginning, it was an essentially a fic about reproductive incompatibility (with an undertone of infertility.)
Also if anyone chooses: you can absolutely choose to end reading at chapter one.
I love love love Piccolo and canonically he is an alien that reproduces asexually and as someone who does potentially want to be pregnant and have a baby someday, my self inserting requires some cope.
But also that’s not the fic I’m writing anymore. There’s a reason I put “alien pregnancy” and “oviposition” as tags on the first chapter when that hasn’t happened yet.
Piccolo and Reader will get a baby.
Back before I got into X reader in 2022ish, I used to be into monster fucking fics. I love Piccolo and I’m also a weirdo who loves oviposition and weird alien pregnancy and literal breeding kink that ends in pregnancy. That’s another reason they don’t use the dragon balls: Reader literally says they want Piccolo to get her pregnant, even though it’s not possible yet.
I know the next chapters are taking a while, but this is angst with a happy ending, with a side of hurt/comfort (heavy on the hurt right now). And I do hope readers who have enjoyed chapter one will enjoy the rest of the fic.
It has and will continue to be a labor of love (pun intended), and I hope it will come together satisfactorily. 💚🥚💜

Dragon Ball Daima 01x20 - Maximum
Final episode of Daima, here we go.
I am, of course, still totally checked out of the fight with Gomah. Like.
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Like. That looks cool as hell but it's also just the 87th instance of Goku or Vegeta hitting this guy and doing no damage. Since it's been established that he's completely invulnerable and takes no damage from anything ever, this animation is wasted on what amounts to Goku and Gomah playing paddy-cake until the arbitrary moment when Piccolo shows up to end the fight.
Yeah, the pretty lights and flashing colors are cool, but they'd be cooler if they were doing anything to advance the fight.
Tumblr media
Gomah summons a magic scepter at one point that just starts shooting blasts and I have no idea what this thing is even supposed to be. Has a Demon Scepter of Shooting Ki Blasts ever been brought up as a thing?
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I totally thought Piccolo was going to use the Beam Struggle as his window of opportunity to get in and start bopping Gomah. But I guess he didn't want to get in the way of Goku's Kamehameha and end up double-KO'd with Gomah. That's fair. XD
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The animators clearly thought that Goku's Kamehameha ripping a brand new hole between all three demon worlds would be the coolest thing ever but I'm just left like.
Uh.
Holy shit.
People live here.
Imagine if Goku hit Cell with a Kamehameha so powerful it cross the world, tore straight through West City, and then wiped the Sacred Land of Karin off the map. That would not be a triumphant celebration moment. Literally the tension of Vegeta's Final Flash was the fear that he would do exactly this.
Just because this isn't our planet, doesn't mean it's okay to wreck everything. This may be a spicy hot take, but I think Saiyans are very inconsiderate of other people's worlds.
Anyway, the time finally comes for Piccolo to end it.
Tumblr media
He hasn't gotten to do anything for this entire show but now, at the eleventh hour, it all depends on--
Tumblr media
--AND HE FUCKING BLOWS IT.
Piccolo gets one opportunity to finally justify why he's even in this series when he doesn't get to do anything to contribute ever, and he immediately eats shit. Piccolo was a complete waste of a character inclusion.
Tumblr media
I think after two episodes of fighting him, we all kinda figured that the Third Eye was healing him rather than him simply resisting everyone's attacks. Every time it pulses, it's undoing all the damage he took while he was getting shitstomped a moment ago. But it's nice to see it confirmed.
The ultimate secret of Gomah's power is that he's just another regenerator like Cell and Buu.
Tumblr media
Fortunately, almost immediately after Piccolo eats shit, Kuu solves the plot for us. Arinsu family is best.
This could at least have been like "Piccolo did the first two hits but then Kuu lands the third". But no. Gomah's weak point reset. Kuu has to do all three. Piccolo literally accomplished nothing in his one and only spotlight moment.
Tumblr media
And Glorio gets the kill on the Third Eye, which was the real enemy for these last three episodes of fighting. Good for him.
Tumblr media
Oh, Panzy. You were a cool concept but they ran out of ideas for anything to have you do a while ago. I still can't believe Panzy's one job in the entire Makai #3 arc was babysitting Dende.
Tumblr media
Yessssssssssssss
Respect the Kuu.
Tumblr media
I'm just so happy every time these two are onscreen. I'm glad they've found acceptance with the Third Worlders.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
The funny thing is, Arinsu could totally claim the throne right here and now. With Gomah and Degesu out of the picture, doesn't she kinda... win by default? Plus she's got Kuu and Duu to be her muscle. I'm not sure what's stopping her from declaring herself Demon Queen.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
She doesn't want to live in fear of assassins for the rest of her life. You know what, that's fair.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
You know what, I can accept that. XD Arinsu Family forever.
Tumblr media
I love him! I love his stupid magic cape he made out of excitement! And I love this family!
Dr. Arinsu turned down the throne for pragmatic reasons but we're still keeping it in the family.
Tumblr media
And now he's just handing out cabinet positions to everyone who fought Gomah.
I like that Neva and Kadan get Minister roles. Kuu's administration will have representation from both the Second and Third Worlds, which means no world of Daimakai will simply be a vassal state.
Tumblr media Tumblr media
They really said at the very end of this that actually Neva shooting Goku full of magic beams didn't do anything. Goku invented Super Saiyan 4 between series, has had it this entire time, and also secretly had it for the entirety of Super too.
Fortunately, Super Saiyan God very quickly obsoletes all other forms in DBS so this retcon doesn't really cause any problems for it. Though this does finally put an end to the "Okay but which is stronger, Super Saiyan 4 or God?" conversations. Super Saiyan 4 is, canonically, dogshit compared to the God forms and that's why it never appeared in Super.
Also fully decanonizes GT. I know there's been some back and forth in the fandom over whether GT can still happen in the future of Super, since it takes place after the end of the manga while Super is prior to said endpoint. Super doesn't seem to care about trying to build towards GT, but it also never explicitly decanonizes GT either.
"Super Saiyan 4 DOES exist but actually Goku invented it independently right after the end of the Buu arc" is the kind of detail that explicitly decanonizes GT.
Tumblr media
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA Panzy waving Vegeta's arm while he does not give a fuck is the perfect visual to end the series on.
Tumblr media
Nope, never mind. The reveal that the Third Eye is just some shit Abra bought at a travel shop a long time ago and there's actually more of them is the perfect thing to end the series on. It's a product. XD Oh, I love that.

Dragon Ball Daima episode 4 is just super classic RPG fun.
I love the thing that Toriyama does of taking a previous concept and giving it a new life in a different form.
The Medi Bugs are clearly another version of the Senzu, down to even being compared to them.
And the flower seed is clearly a spin on Tao Pai Pai's trait of travelling via throwing a pillar in the sky.
The former is also a spin on the really common RPG element of potions and status effect relievers.
There is also a little mention of another version of fusion in the passing, which I saw people lose their shit over even before watching the episode because it can involve multiple items (thus potentially beings), therefore opening another potentially massive window for that elrment of Dragon Ball.
I'm super down with this atmosphere.
I also really love the couple in their cute teapot-shaped shop. They're wonderful.
I think the best example of good writing is always when you care about a character in just a couple of scenes and I liked them pretty much right away.
The latter half of the episode has a really fun action sequence of Goku standing up to the police of Demon Realm (though it is much more limited with animation than a bunch of sequences that came before) who are literally there to harvest the life out of their citizens, continuing with leaning into the theme of classism.
I really liked the soundtrack here, as well. Again, just super classic RPG.
I think when all is said and done, making this series into an RPG would be much more fitting than a fighting game.
Whatever is done with it later, it sure continues to be great, charming fun.
