jenndoesnotcare replied to this post:
Every time LDS kids come to my neighborhood I am so so nice to them. I hope they remember the blue haired lady who was kind, when people try to convince them the outside world is bad and scary. (Also they are always so young! I want to feed them cookies and give them Diana Wynne Jones books or something)
Thank you! Honestly, this sort of kindness can go a really long way, even if it doesn't seem like it at the time.
LDS children and missionaries (and the majority of the latter are barely of age) are often the people who interact the most with non-Mormons on a daily basis, and thus are kind of the "face" of the Church to non-Mormons a lot of the time. As a result, they're frequently the ones who actually experience the brunt of antagonism towards the Church, which only reinforces the distrust they've already been taught to feel towards the rest of the world.
It's not that the Church doesn't deserve this antagonism, but a lot of people seem to take this enormous pride in showing up Mormon teenagers who have spent most of their lives under intense social pressure, instruction, expectation, and close observation from both their peers and from older authorities in the Church (it largely operates on seniority, so young unmarried people in particular tend to have very little power within its hierarchies). Being "owned" for clout by non-Mormons doesn't prove anything to most of them except that their leaders and parents are right and they can't trust people outside the Church.
The fact that the Church usually does provide a tightly-knit community, a distinct and familiar culture, and a well-developed infrastructure for supporting its members' needs as long as they do [xyz] means that there can be very concrete benefits to staying in the Church, staying closeted, whatever. So if, additionally, a Mormon kid has every reason to think that nobody outside the Church is going to extend compassion or kindness towards them, that the rest of the world really is as hostile and dangerous as they've been told, the stakes for leaving are all the higher, despite the costs of staying.
So people from "outside" who disrupt this narrative of a hostile, threatening world that cannot conceivably understand their experiences or perspectives can be really important. It's important for them to know that there are communities and reliable support systems outside the Church, that leaving the Church does not have to mean being a pariah in every context, that there are concrete resources outside the Church, that compassion and decency in ordinary day-to-day life is not the province of any particular religion or sect and can be found anywhere. This kind of information can be really important evidence for people to have when they are deciding how much they're willing to risk losing.
So yeah, all of this is to say that you're doing a good thing that may well provide a lifeline for very vulnerable people, even if you don't personally see results at the time.
#jenndoesnotcare#respuestas#long post#cw religion#cw mormonism#i've been thinking about how my mother was the compassionate service leader in the church when i was a kid#which in our area was the person assigned to manage collective efforts to assist other members in a crisis#this could mean that someone got really sick or broke their leg or something and needs meals prepared for them for awhile#or it could mean that someone lost their job and they're going to need help#it might mean that someone needs to move and they need more people to move boxes or a piano or something#she was the person who made sure there was a social net for every member in our area no matter what happened or what was needed#there's an obvious way this is good but it also makes it scarier to leave and lose access#especially if there's no clear replacement and everyone is hostile#i was lucky in a lot of ways - my mother was unorthodox and my bio dad and his family were catholic so i always had ties beyond the church#my best friend was (and is) a jewish atheist so i had continual evidence that virtue was not predicated on adherence to dogma#and even so it was hard to withdraw from all participation in church life and doubly so because the obvious alternative spaces#-the lgbt+ ones- seemed obsessed with gatekeeping and viciously hostile towards anyone who didn't fit comfortable narratives#so i didn't feel i could rely on the community at large in any structural sense or that i had any serious alternative to the church#apart from fandom really and only carefully curated spaces back then#and like - random fandom friends who might not live in my country but were obviously not mormon and yet kind and helpful#did more to help me withdraw altogether than gold star lesbians ever did

Troublesome Tangmere and 249 Squadron Reliable Rebecca!
In an ideal world, we could've had a story where Tangmere causes good old Sundrian Confusion and Delay and then promptly eats shit.
Rebecca as 249 Squadron wasn't my idea, but it's been ingrained into my head nonetheless. I like the idea of a Rebecca that spent most of her life in scrapyards and storage and then still coming out singing- quite literally! But the trauma of it is still very much there, just... lingering. I imagine 'What Rebecca Does' was one of those moments where her anxiety and self doubt got the better of her- she only spent a short while on rails, and while she did pull expresses like The Night Ferry back on the mainland, here on Sodor it seemed that everyone is much more.... experienced and worldly and cool, and most of all, they got modifications and rebuilds to work around their design flaws while Rebecca is still very much an unrebuilt bulleid pacific. Poor girl's not sure what she can really do, after all these years and with her mechanical problems. This isn't even getting into when she WAS in service- her family was fine, and quite loving actually- and the ex SR engines were a decent sort! Everyone else, however...

I’d like to (finally) talk about this interview with Mark Thompson, Narrative Director on Far Cry 4:
youtube
I love it when devs talk about their work because it’s always super interesting and informative! This video is no exception.
But what struck me most when I first saw the interview is what he says about Far Cry 3, a title he also worked on as a Level Design Director, which I believe means he was not (or barely) involved in the writing of the script. When he mentions what he thinks the issues with the game were and what had to be “fixed” in Far Cry 4, the thing is that... he often contradicts what Jeffrey Yohalem, Lead Writer on Far Cry 3, explained in various articles.
Under the cut, I highlighted some parts of Mark Thompson’s interview (in red) and compared them to Jeffrey Yohalem’s words (in blue, with the sources) so you can see how different their points of view are.
In this case, when it comes to the story and meaning of Far Cry 3, I’m inclined to give more credence to the Lead Writer’s explanations, but I think this example perfectly illustrates how even people who worked on the same project can have very different (and sometimes equally valid) opinions, understandings, and feelings about it, and why it can therefore be difficult for the audience to determine what the “truth” or the “right” interpretation is…
Open world vs story
MT: We ended up shipping a game where the open world had a lot of cool stuff, but it didn’t have a lot of depth or meaning, and it had almost no connection to what was happening in the story. And in fact, in some ways, the two were kind of opposed and they were kind of conflicting each other. So, on one hand, the story itself had this ticking time bomb of “I have these friends that I need to rescue, but holy sh*t, collecting plants, finding that next animal I need for the next upgrade, getting that next skill point… Oh, look, there’s a radio tower! Wait, wasn’t I heading to that outpost?” And then you’re like, “Oh yeah, sh*t, my friend Keith’s trapped in the basement, I should probably go rescue him… I’m a terrible friend.” That was my main goal: fix this sh*t and make sure that the story and the open world speak to each other, complement each other; strip everything down so that the story and the open world are the same thing and it’s the same game.
JY: People who have looked at the surface of the game think that the story and the game are at war with each other as they are in most games, with the story just plugging potholes and the gameplay is going along its merry way. I think it’s very exaggerated that, “Oh, go save the friends! Go save the friends!” but most people are out on the island doing all this other crazy stuff and experiencing the gameplay. And that’s actually the point of the story. It’s not a game about go save your friends. It’s a game about – doing a lot of picking skins from things, and wait, it’s just a pile of meat – this doesn’t even make sense, yet I’m still doing it instead of saving the friends. (Rock Paper Shotgun - Dec. 19, 2012)
The “white savior” trope
MT: We were definitely aware of some of the tropes that we fell into - unintentionally in some cases, intentionally in some - and (…) almost the first thing that we did was decide how we were gonna address the white savior trope, the outsider who comes in and helps simple people with his outsider’s kind of more advanced understanding of the world. (...) The first thing we said was, “This guy is from Kyrat, no matter what happens. That is the most important thing; he is part of this world, he belongs here.”
JY: “It’s a first-person game, and Jason is a 25-year old white guy from Los Angeles. From Hollywood. So his view of what’s going on on this island is his own view, and you happen to be looking through his eyes, so you’re seeing his view,” Yohalem explained. “It’s set on an island in the South Pacific, so immediately the thing that comes to mind is the white colonial trope, the Avatar trope. I started with that, and it’s like, ‘Here’s what pop culture thinks about traveling to a new place,’ and the funny thing is, that’s an exaggeration of most games, they just don’t expose it. (The Penny Arcade Report - Dec. 17, 2012)
JY: There’s a reason why Jason is a 25 year old white guy from Hollywood – these are all ideas that are in his head. You’re seeing things through his eyes. (...) It’s not that [Citra] needed a white saviour at all. She didn’t need a white guy at all. She was just looking for the ultimate warrior and someone to be her gun. (...) If this was about the white messiah motif, would I be so stupid as to have a main character’s nickname be Snow White? I’m making fun of that! (Rock Paper Shotgun - Dec. 19, 2012)
The player and the protagonist
MT: When we were doing the script review, almost immediately, the first thing we would do would be, “Okay, so how many lines does Ajay have? Okay, cut that by 75%”, and then we would review it and then cut out even more. Whenever possible, we would set up a scenario where we know or we think we know how players would react, and so we would remove the line that the character would actually say and then have the other person react to it. “Oh, you think that, do you?” - in that kind of way, so they’re like, “Oh f*ck, how did he know I was gonna say that?” Whereas, if the protagonist said that line, they’re like, “Oof, I wouldn’t have said that”, and then suddenly you’re kind of broken out of the experience. (…) When you’re in first-person, all you hear is this disconnected voice that might not be agreeing with what you’re doing. So, again, it’s just about stripping away those barriers of immersion so you can imagine yourself in this scenario.
JY: In Far Cry 3, Jason is a character and he’s not the player. The player is another character in the game. Sometimes Jason disagrees with the player, and sometimes Jason agrees with him. And the magic of that is that then it doesn’t matter! Basically, as long as the whole narrative is directed towards what the player is feeling—which for me is how videogames should be—then I get to target Jason as a resource where players can go: “I disagree with Jason.” And the player gets to convince Jason to do something else. So instead of trying to force the two of them together, I’ve decoupled them. (Killscreen - Dec. 12, 2012)

lmfao i think i've had someone text or call me on all but one (1) of my days off so far asking me to come in & work, and i have never once said yes.
"are you available to come in today?" no, my days off are already so intermittent & unpredictable that when i'm not scheduled to work in advance, that time fills up quickly & you can't have it.
"where are you? we need you!" at home sleeping in cuz i turned in a leave slip & this time off was approved last week, check your records.
"we had some call outs & your position gets first dibs on overtime! you want it?" you phrase that as if it's some kind of privilege. i already rack up enough overtime working the 6 full days a week you schedule me for every week, no thanks.

The Nameless Trails
Tripods stand by tourists fanned across the valley floor,  A thousand shots in color, lots of orange and grey, and more.   (That is, unless, the sky won’t bless them with a cloudless day,)  The crowds look up and try their luck, for fire falls they pray.
Yosemite is fine to me, I’ll trek to Yellowstone,  Each park is grand, these wondrous lands are deservedly well-known.  Though swarmed by hoards of travelers, bored, we wait in miles of cars, I’m glad I know the golden glow of sunsets lighting parks.
But have you seen the silver gleam of pools reflected light,  Dancing on a doe and fawn who never know your sight? Among the stones and fields unknown, a fluttering of quails, Have you heard the calling birds that sing on nameless trails?
Have you run in rising sun and held the rocks unturned?  This land is mine, and yours, from rhine to blackened forests burned.  The vast expanse and bold romance of the wild and free west Out there awaits, beyond cow gates, with miles are we blessed.
Without a name or worldwide fame, alone I can meander.  No signs, no shops, vacant hilltops, a private, hidden grandeur.  Go and see the copse of trees, the unadvertised cattails,  Near you and know, the golden glow of sun on nameless trails.

What is online reputation management India | explain by Infyq Seo experts
This is the digital age, whereby the reputation of a business or a person is emulated by an online footing. You are either a small business owner, a multinational corporation, or even a public figure; you are partly defined by what a person is going to find out about you on the internet. This is where online reputation comes in. That's where we come in here at InfyQ SEO Experts—to provide highly specialized help to businesses and persons who realize their reputation either adds or takes away from their status in the gradually paperless digital universe.
Understanding reputation management
Basically, ORM is the process of monitoring, influencing, and managing a brand's or even individual's perception online. It is basically a mix of methods and strategies used to control what people see in perceptions regarding a person or business in the online space, especially in search, social media, and review websites.
ORM does not only aim at suppressing negative content but also looks at enhancing positive information that characterizes or defines the image that an entity wants to project.
Importance of Online Reputation.
With increased reliance of consumers on the Internet for research before they make any decision, online reputation becomes really important. Here's why:
Builds Trust and Credibility
One of the critical success factors in delivering any business relationship is building trust. Any search your prospective customer may conduct over the internet needs to result in something that builds confidence in your brand.
1.First Impressions Count
The majority of times, search engines are where a future customer will have their very first experience with your brand. It's extremely hard to recover from a bad first impression. We can help in forming that positive first impression through ORM, shining a light on the positives with your brand, and making sure any negative content is at a minimum or removed altogether.
2.Influence Buying Decisions
Modern-day consumers are much better informed and use online forums and review sites to a great extent. A poor online reputation can make a huge difference in purchase decisions. Online management gives you a better way to influence how consumers think about your brand, product, or service and will more likely drive them toward a positive purchase decision.
The Various Key Strategies of ORM
In order to manage and regulate your online reputation, it deploys quite a few strategies. Some of the key constituents of this comprehensive package include:
1. Monitoring and Analysis
The first step of ORM is being aware of what people say about you online. This involves search engine results, not to forget social media, review site platforms, and other channels for brand mentions.
2.Content Creation and Promotion
positive content is very important for strong online reputation. High-quality content represents the core values and expertise of your brand. we do provide blog posts, press releases, great articles and social media updates with good contents that let you show off your strengths. This content is also shared on multiple platforms so as to reach maximum individuals.
3.Social Media Optimization India
Social media is the greatest of all platforms that stands to influence your customer's perception. In the realm of our ORM services, we bring to the table SMO that aid you in the professional administration of your brand's social media avatars on platforms like Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, and LinkedIn.
Our team makes content that is bound to engage, motivate, and connect to your target audience, which thrills your followers to more positive interactions. We ensure that more friends are initiated from the conversations and that all the comments and messages are replied to instantly in order to retain a positive image.
4.Link Building Services in India
Link-building is another critical step in ORM, as through high quality backlinks acquired through reputable sites, one can boost the authority of website and its ranking in search engines.
It is one such brand that deals with specialized link building services India. we have a strong belief in working on the creation of a robust and diversified backlink profile through guest posting, influencer outreach, and content marketing.
5.SEO Optimization
Search engine optimization is an integral part of ORM. We optimize the website and its content, leaning toward the relevant search engine keywords to increase placement on SERPs. It doesn't just give you the visibility, it controls what that visibility says about your brand.
It performs both on-page and off-page optimizations to ensure that the positive content comes up above the negative information. This will include website structure optimization, improving load times, and enhancing user experience.
