My Favorite Youtube Channels for Learning Japanese:
Jp Launch - This guy mostly teaches vocabulary, kanji and counting information, but his channel isn’t exclusive to only N5 learners. In fact, he posted N3 content just recently.
JapanesePod101 - Has a LOT of videos and is a very well rounded and credible channel. Teaches everything, sometimes TOO thorough (knowledge overload).
Yuko Sensei - I love how she breaks grammar points down and explains it so simply and to the point. Great for anyone who is serious about learning Japanese, especially beginners. (Or if you just need to brush up on something!)
Japanese Ammo with Misa - Casually but thoroughly explains study tips, grammar points, etc. Minimal visual aid.
Japanese From Zero - This isn’t the most simple and to-the-point channel, but it is a credible one. It’s another channel that doesn’t offer much visual aid.
Conversation Exposure:
That Japanese Man Yuta - Interviewer
Find Your Love in Japan - Interviewer
Advanced:
Bilingirl Chika - Teaches Japanese speakers how to speak English.
Nihongo no mori - FOR EXTREMELY ADVANCED LEARNERS. Teaches in Japanese without subtitles. Helps prepare for N1, N2, N3 JLPT exams.

Week 3 blog
Apart from ELI class, I had some chances to use English especially listening. Recently, I started watching youtube videos in English or Japanese youtubers who speak English in the video. My favorite youtubers who speak English in the videos are Narumi Shikiya and Bilingirl Chika. Narumi is a graduate student who attends university of Houston and she makes videos about her life. She sometimes makes videos with her boyfriend who is English native speaker, so he sometimes uses some vocabulary I don’t recognize. For bilingirl Chika, she is a youtuber who travels around the world with her family and makes videos about her life in each country and she used to make a lot of videos about some useful phrases in English. I found that both of them make very helpful videos for me because they are native speakers in both languages especially Chika because she spent her life mostly in the United States. Other than their videos, I started watching some korean dramas that have English subtitles. I think subtitles are a good way to improve your vocabulary skills especially if it’s English dramas, tv shows or news because you listen and read at the same time. Also, if there are vocabulary that you have never heard of, you can take notes and try to use it or make sentences using that word. I use this strategy all the time and it’s actually very helpful. For me, just taking notes does not help that much, so I use flash cards to memorize them. I added around 70 vocabulary words over the past two weeks and am trying to memorize them everyday. Increasing the number of vocabulary widen my range of English skills, that is what I found and trying to achieve.
Resonance: the reinforcement or prolongation of sound by reflection from a surface or by the synchronous vibration of a neighboring object.
This vocabulary is from the slide for my chemistry class (online class). I had never heard of this vocabulary so I had to look up to move on to the next step.
Conjugal: relating to marriage or the relationship of a married couple.
This vocabulary is also from chemistry. I had heard “Conjugate” which is similar to this new vocabulary but we used a little different way in chemistry which I was not sure if we could use this vocabulary in science class because conjugal is about marriage, so I think my teacher used it as a metaphor.

Personally, i agree with your point of view on the Japanese YouTubers community. It gets tiring and sometimes confusing.I have always been conflicted about whether the content is helofu4and informative for me or not.I am not condemning their content; it just seems to be aimed at entertainment seekers.(regardless there may be informative channels out there, but i haven't followed any for many years now). Please stay safe and remember that sharing your relationship is a double-edged sword of sorts.
That was when I finally decided to stop watching their content – when I realized it no longer felt healthy/beneficial for me. I just spent a lot of time feeling annoyed with it, or feeling like it wasn’t really entertaining anymore.
There are a lot of channels with informative content! Abroad In Japan (Chris) is great. He’s really honest about Japan, and he posts a lot about culture and travel. I also really love his sense of humor, and I love that he’s up to try new things and is respectful of the culture at the same time.
I also love Bilingirl Chika! Her fun mix of English and Japanese makes her videos both a learning tool for language and culture and entertaining to watch. She makes a lot of videos about Japan, life hacks, language tips, and more! Her personality is so bubbly and fun, and she’s really positive but realistic in her videos. She deserves way more followers than she has!
The final favorite is KemushiChan (Loretta). Her Japanese is really good, and she’s currently getting her masters degree in Japan! She has a lot of videos in Japanese, and she often features other Japanese YouTubers on her channel. She posts a lot of informative and helpful content about learning the language and “normal” life in Japan. I think she’s awesome!
I didn’t mean to turn this into a recommendation thing, but because I keep talking a bit negatively about foreign Japanese YouTube, I wanted to share a few channels I do love! A little positivity never hurt anybody, eh? Lol.
