So what do you think it would be like to imagine Magilla Gorilla in his show-window Murphy bed, ad-laden window shade pulled down for the evening, munching on banana bread and drinking Kaffee Hag (yes, it's still around, if you know where to look) while listening to his trusty shortwave as bar-close time approaches?
Or Fleegle per The Banana Splits, somehow getting the Overnight Munchies without realising as much in his sleep, sleepwalking it to the kitchen and getting himself some banana creme pie from the refrigerator while Bingo, Drooper and Snorky are asleep otherwise?
Let alone picturing the Hair Bear Bunch, on a long night's drive to another lakeside as can serve as Camp Volkswagen during their mating-season road trip run, going through the microwave spicy burritos at an all-night convenience store, that and spotting a few night-travelling tourists wanting selfies and autographs?
Makes you wonder how appeals to "the munchies" on the owl shift start, to begin with ...

Random Jellystone headcanon/theory
Tumblr media
All members of The King’s gang are related to others directly in the town. This purely comes from all five of their species having someone else in the town that is also of that species...but it just felt too specific to not make sense:
Skids - Wally Gator
Clyde - Bingo (there’s multiple gorillas in the show sure, but only one other orange one)
The King - Lippy the Lion (also multiple lions, but Lippy shares the closer “design similiarity”)
Big H - Peter Potamus
Yuka Yuka - Hardy Har Har
And while it’s slim to none that The King and Yuka Yuka are related to each other (since Lippy and Hardy are married in this iteration), I still hold onto this theory by how well it ties together.

Postcards from Snagglepuss
Unlikeliest of encounters, Myrtle Beach version
As it so happened, Huckleberry Hound got the idea of spending some time at one of the outlet malls down here in Myrtle Beach on an otherwise slow winter's weekend. With yours truly, even, trying to avoid unnecessary and frivolous shopping unlikely to have any practical implications when all is said and done.
Which, on a Saturday afternoon, came to include something of an unlikely surprise visitor to the same outlet mall, the sort unlikely to travel incognito for reasons obvious: As in The Banana Splits "themselves," whose last recorded presence was as guest performers at the now-closed Hard Rock Park theme park here on the Grand Strand. Not to mention walkabout types, as I understand it.
"Now I wonder myself how they'd get here anyway," Huckleberry mused while we rested near a block of tacky outlet stores--at least until the gorilla-orangutan hybrid, Bingo, pulled off a double take such as drove them to our presence.
And I have to admit, were we stunned, surprised even, to see no less than Bingo, Drooper, Fleegle and Snorky back together, notwithstanding that rather awful horror-film treatment they were in.
"So what brought you back to The Grand Strand?" asked I.
To which Fleegle was quick to remark, "Hardly anything in particular."
"Except, maybe," Drooper chimed in, "just a random trip with nowhere in particular in mind. Just to clear our minds of that rather tasteless film."
"'Tasteless' ain't the half of it!" was how Bingo responded.
Which, at any event, was bound to be enough to dispense with the outlet mall and instead go for someplace more obvious--the Gay Dolphin Gift Cove, close to the Boardwalk. And perhaps a Grand Strand institution right there of long standing. And to imagine the Splits posing alongside kitschy statues/props of Elvis and Bigfoot as much as the racks of tacky souvenir T-shirts having "walking billboard" potential made you wonder how the tourists would react to the sight, imagining return of The Banana Splits, even, after such an awful horror film so featuring!
"Just makes you wonder," Huckleberry responded as we repaired to a modest little Low Country seafood house in a back alley off Ocean Boulevard, the main drag of Myrtle Beach, for a "see food" buffet (as Drooper depicted it) tending to crab as much as Southern specialities galore. With a dessert bar featuring typically Southern staples like chess pie, pecan pie and warm peach cobbler--the original dump cake, you might say, having learned somewhere that to "cobble up" means to put together quickly.
But particularly surprising to us was where Snorky, as interpreted by Drooper, had a surprise waiting for us in store ... which, know, will be revealed next time around.

If you thought the Three Wolves were Funtastic enow in their own right ...
--then imagine these other potential combinations for Hanna-Barbera characters otherwise having a common bond by virtue of their species:
The Three Lions: Lippy the Lion, Drooper from The Banana Splits and The King from Heyyy, It's The King!
The Two Gators: Wally Gator and Skids from Heyyy, It's The King!
The Two Hyaenas: Hardy Har-Har from Lippy the Lion and Yukayuka from Heyyy, It's The King!
The Two Hippos: Peter Potamus and Big H from Heyyy, It's The King!
The Three Gorillas: Magilla Gorilla, Bingo from The Banana Splits and Clyde from Heyyy, It's The King!
(Come to think of it, does anyone notice that the aforementioned have a connexion unto Heyyy, It's The King! ultimately, even if mere coincidence is a more logically logical explanatory here?)
Too, whereas I have the Three Wolves as part and parcel of the Peter Potamus Travelling SCUBA Par-tay, what could you imagine, fellow Hanna-Barberians, as the common interest of each of the preceding groups?

Hardly the sort of thing as would be out of character: Having The Banana Splits closing up their clubhouse rather eaely in the morning (perhaps close to sunrise?) and drive out to some isolated and unknown beach, surfboards and dive gear included in the bargain, not to mention a modest little picnic lunch such as would envy Yogi's desire for "tourist-type goodies."
And finding some fascination of the highest order trying out some bodysurfing as much as boardriding at that rather isolated beach ... with Bingo, for some reason, managing to get some serious stokaboka mocha on a "sweet ride" as came off around midday, that being when high tide came in.
And you wonder how Bingo in particular could pull off such a "sweet ride" like he could, even considering where he's a gorilla/orangutan cross and he's probably the silliest one of the quartet.
And for the diving part of the beach day, imagine Snorky, considering his trunk, getting some serious diving stoke such as could be the envy of Peter Potamus--not to mention quite the show underwater between his legs for some reason. Snorky, mind you, is just a little boy at heart with a sense of curiosity about weird stuff.
All in all, something of an interesting and fascinating day The Banana Splits could be imagined having at the beach. Especially the sort of beach they turn out having to themselves.

Some notes from the Character Convocation vis-a-vis Braham Pie Day
For a Central Minnesota town of just under 1,800 population, Braham has managed to become especially famous for pie--and credit the Park Cafe downtown, popular with tourists heading to the North Shore via a legendary shortcut involving Hwys. 65, 107 and 23 in large measure, itself known for its pies and coffee, for providing the impetus for the annual pie celebration held annually on the first Friday in August and swelling its population several fold.
Originally intended to be held in 2020, but suspended owing to the coronavirus pandemic itself forcing suspension of the celebration that year, Snagglepuss and Huckleberry Hound, convocation planners par excellence when it comes to fellow Hanna-Barbera Funtastic types, decided to bring it there this year for another mix of character gathering and public "meet-and-greet" most ideally timed for just before the Minnesota State Fair. And what could turn out being better timing than following an underwater initiation ceremony relaunching the Peter Potamus' Travelling SCUBA Par-tay as Peter Potamus' Magic Divers which saw Snagglepuss and Huck initiated as honourary members and the Hair Bear Bunch recovering from bear mating season in the north woods, among other coincidences?
Braham Pie Day isn't exactly all about pie: There's also an arts and crafts fair which the Laydeez of Hanna-Barbera especially found fascinating and a softball tournament attracting its share of interest. Not to mention the crowds on Main Street, with plenty of meet-and-greet opportunities to pose for selfies and exchange conversation with fans. As for the bands, The Banana Splits passed through with their road trip of redemption (and entering some banana creme pie in competition, which may not have won in competition) and the Cattanooga Cats' Kitty Jo entering her "typically Southern" chess pie (which received a special recognition from the judges considering its novelty, in particular the use of white and yellow cornmeal) and peach cobbler.
Other entries from The Funtastic World of Hanna-Barbera in competition were huckleberry pie from Clementine (who else?), forest berry pie from Cindy Bear (representing Jellystone Park, encompassing blueberries, raspberries and loganberries), several Dream Pie variations (encompassing, as everybody knows, Dream Whip whipped topping mix and Jell-O instant pudding mixes; at least three entrants used sugar-free pudding mixes and received special recognition), Magilla Gorilla entering a twist on banana cream pie with vanilla wafer crumbs mixed into the cream mixture, Wally Gator offering an exceptionally tart key lime pie (using fresh-squeezed key lime juice and fat-free sweetened condensed milk), Snagglepuss and Hair Bear each proffering grasshopper pie and Sheena from The King's clique fixing up some French silk pie, even adding the chocolate curls on top. As well, Maw Rugg, Punkin Puss and Clue Club's Dottie entered various other fruit pies.
In sharing some banana cream pie with with some lost-touch fans (how else?), The Banana Splits' Bingo, along with a selfie or two, acknowledged that having their good name dragged through the muck (so to speak) with the horror-film variation was just too embarrassing for them to take sitting down; hence, going on road trip for as long as necessary hoping to have their name and image cleared for once.
Meanwhile, the Cattanooga Cats' Kitty Jo had to explain (and repeatedly) that chess pie has nothing to do with the game of chess, to begin with; "actually, it's more of a corruption of 'pie chest,' where pies would likely be kept until ready for serving." She also acknowledged that the cornmeal and vinegar were to prevent mold and spoilage from prolonged storage.
The Inevitable Tom and Jerry Chase Item: Passing through southbound from the Twin Ports via the legendary Braham Shortcut just as the crowds were arriving in the morning, becoming rather exhausted to the point of stopping at a convenience store to the south of town--and Jerry managing to exploit Tom's having a breakfast sandwich, hash browns and coffee to gain a two-mile lead.
