First, the elves, then a devil.
Events took a sharp turn that I did not see coming, but I didn't let that stop me from fulfilling my duties and protecting my kingdom and its people. The aftermath was quite messy, but I tried to make the best of it.
"Y/N, what a lovely surprise."
I decided to visit my closest friend, William. He was sitting in a tree by the Golden Dawn's quarters, watching the sunset, his bright eyes flashing through his mask.
"Hey friend," I smiled up, climbing the tree.
"I can come down-"
"It's fine," Climbing up and joining him in the branch, my smile spread to his, "That wasn't much of a struggle."
"I'm glad," He nodded, eyes gazing back to the sunset, as did mine, the sight being one of nature's purest forms of beauty.
"The view from here is gorgeous," I whispered in awe, using that to ease into the conversation I came here to have, "Nothing like a nice view to clear your mind."
"Indeed," He whispered back, still staring at the setting sun as I looked at him:
"I know you recently had an important talk with King Julius. Are you doing better after everything?"
"I do feel better," He sighed, seeing the emotion in his eyes as the sky fell into a darker orange hue, "I feel lighter now if that makes sense."
"I understand," I nodded, taking his full attention as I rested my hand on top of his that was resting on the massive tree branch, whispering, "I know there are some others that may think differently than I do, but I want you to know, William, you're still the same William that is my best friend."
"I couldn't ask for a better friend," He sniffled softly but was still smiling, his hand beginning to shake, and it confused me till his hand started reaching for his mask.
We had been friends for a long time, but I'd never seen his face. However, I was happy that he was confident enough to show me, seeing a dark purple tone along the top of his cheeks, all the way up to his white hair.
"You were hiding a birthmark?" That's what I assumed it was. Only curious and not expecting his correction:
"It's from a curse that was placed on my mother's family."
He'd never been so open to me, putting his head down, holding my hand with both of us, a tear dropping into it as he whispered:
"I imagine you can understand why I keep it hidden. I do feel better now that the truth is out, but I still feel-"
My heart hurt seeing him crying; quickly scooting closer to him, his hands squeezing me harder as I took his cheek, lifting his eyes back into mine.
"William, I don't know a soul who's gone through what yours has," I began, fighting through a few tears of my own, but a smile on my face as I reminded, "But as I said, you're still the William that I hold dear to my heart. I know that your heart is pure, my dear friend."
"My face may be cursed, but I do have one blessing," He smiled back, sniffling as he took my other hand, "That blessing is you."
"Cursed?" I giggled softly, meaning honestly, as I kissed his cheek, "I think you're handsome. Curse or not."
"Is it okay if I continue to be honest with you, Y/N?" Getting confirmation from my nod, it felt as if a bright light was shining from within me when his lips found mine, the light shining brighter as I pressed my lips into his more, gasping slightly as our lips parted, his gorgeous purple eyes glimmering into mine, "You are my everything. "
My heart was beating calmly but so hard. Lost in his sparkling eyes, the purple in the sky coloring us and the tree, smiling more as I nuzzled my nose against his, interlocking our hands:
"I feel the same, William."

I'm request (y/n) divorced William after the Elf collapse because she was severely injured in that incident. Five years later, he sees her again at the star festival with a twin boy he's never seen before. (Actually, the two children are his children, but they misunderstand that they are the children of the new husband) haha and finally, don't forget to take care of your health ☺️
Hi @nongphuth! Thank you for sending a request! And also, thank you for your concern, sweetheart!♡
This idea of yours, I absolute love it! Though the thought of William being heartbroken does hurt me (╥ω╥`) He just deserve so much love! ˚‧º·(˚ ˃̣̣̥⌓˂̣̣̥ )‧º·˚
And my apologies for doing this request very late, due to a lot of school works I had to do for the past months, truly sorry about it. For now, this will be part 1 of your request.
I hope you'll love this sweetie! Have a lovely day!♡♡

"I want a divorce"
4 words. That's all it takes for William's heart to shatter into pieces. Those heartbreaking words that he has been wishing to never hear from you ever since you both got married 3 years ago.
William stared at you, eyes full of shock, mouth agape. He was about to speak when you beat him to it, "I– I'm sorry, Will... I just can't do this anymore. You've been so distant to me for months now, you've been pushing me away, stopped having breakfast, lunch, and dinner with me, you'd turn down any of my offers so coldly; and then you lied to me and hurted me, both physically and mentally... I just can't do it anymore, William."
Suddenly, William started to remember how he has been treating you for the past few months. He didn't mean it, truly. He was just so focused on helping his friend, he didn't mean to hurt you, mostly you, the person who he vowed to never hurt until death do they part.
Tears were now pouring out of your eyes, you don't know what to do, this isn't what you expected to happen in your marriage... "William. I love you, I do, but I can't take it anymore."
The room went silent, the only noise that can be heard was your sods. William didn't know what to say or do, he was going to lose you, the only person who loved him.
"I– I understand.."
That was all he could say before standing up and leaving your hospital room. 2 words. That was all it takes for your marriage to finally shatter apart.

The Star Awards Festival is an annual festival that celebrates the Magic Knights' achievements and reveals the squads' rankings, based on the number of stars obtained during the year.
William Vangeance, who's still the captain of the Golden Dawn, was walking around the capital in disguise before the ceremony starts. He was now in his early 30's, though even if 5 years has passed, William still looked young for his age.
The sound of people and music filled his ears as he walks around on his own. He wanted to look around the festival and to have some time alone since work has been more stressful for the past few weeks for him. A small smile was plastered on his lips as he sees children running around playing together.
The mere thought of children made William happy, children are one of the most precious living beings on earth. They're cute, adorable, lovable, small human beings. William's smile grew wider when he thought of having a family with a sudden person in his mind, you.
But suddenly, his smile disappeared. You're not his anymore. You weren't his anymore for 5 years now. He felt his heart ache, the mere thought of you being in the arms of another man made William broken. He still loves you up to this day.
He snapped out of his thoughts when he suddenly felt someone bump into him. "AH!" The small figure that dumped into him yelped. "I-i'm so sorry, Mister! I didn't mean to dump into you!" The young boy apologized, slightly bowing to William.
"It's alright, little boy. Where is your-", William stopped halfway through his sentence when he felt the little kid's mana, strange... his mana felt familiar. But this is their first encounter, so how is it familiar to him?
"Mister?–"
"SB/N!"
Their attention shifted to another child that looks exactly like the child in front of William, "Mom has been looking for you! Where have you been?!" The newcomer questioned the other, a cute angry, yet slightly worried look on his face. "I'm sorry! I didn't mean to run off! I just saw something that caught my interest!"
"Well don't do that again! Mom has been worried sick! Come on!" The other said, his hand reaching out for his brother's hand, "I-i'm sorry again, Mister!" The first one slightly bowed once again to William.
"It's alright. Let me help you two be taken to your mother, I'm sure she'll be relieved that the both of you aren't hurt." William offered, a kind smile on his lips.
"But–"
"Don't worry, I'm a magic knight," he slightly revealed the Golden Dawn symbol to the two boys, two pairs of purple eyes shined bright at the sight of the symbol, "You two are safe with me."
Tumblr media
Few minutes later...
Tumblr media
"What are your names, boys?"
"I'm FB/N! I'm the oldest, and this is SB/N, he's the youngest! He's the one who dumped into you earlier, Mister." FB/N said he was the one leading the way while his brother and William were behind him following.
"What about you, Mister? What's your name?" SB/N asked, looking up at William while walking beside him.
"My name is William, and I'm the captain of the Golden Dawn." "EH?!–" William pressed his index finger on his lips, signaling to be quiet not wanting to gain any attention, the two boys immediately nodded their heads and continued walking.
While walking, the three made small chit-chat here and there as they were near their destination. "Are you married, Mister?" FB/N asked curiously, still walking ahead.
The question slightly caught William off guard, "Before, Yes. Now, no.." "Why? What happened, Mister?"
He went silent. Should he be telling this to children? Though, something about these two children is making him want to tell them why. But why? He barely even knows them. But something inside of him is telling him that he and the children have some kind of special bond together...
"BOYS!"
That voice..
"Mom!" The identical twins immediately ran in the direction of their mother. He didn't want to look. He knows who that voice belongs to. That oh-so-familiar voice that he misses so much after 5 years...
Yet still, he turned to look.
There you are, on your knees checking the two boys standing in front of you, a worried look on your face. 'You still look so beautiful...' William compliments in his thoughts, alonging look in his eyes.
Sighing to yourself, about to say thank you to the person who said by your children who have helped them, but immediately stopped midway when you saw who the person was...

Out of all of the fighting that Magna and Luck did, it was a bit shocking when the hyperactive blonde had suggested a day off from battles between the two. Instantly, Magna was on his case like a detective.
“Who are you, and what have you done with my friend?” The mohawked mage asked with a cocked eyebrow.
“Still me! Still Luck, just Luck with an ouchie.” The boy replied, holding his shoulder and turning his arm. The grimace on his face couldn’t be ignored, and Magna frowned.
“An ‘ouchie’, eh? What’d you do?” Magna stepped toward the blonde, only to have him jump back with an angry look. “What?”
“No! You’re gonna be mean to me!” The lightning mage replied with a pout.
“I’m not gonna-“
“No! You’re gonna come twist my arm and call me a baby, so just go away! It’s not that bad, we can fight again tomorrow,” Luck whined.
Magna laid a gentle hand on the boy’s shoulder and applied a quarter ounce of pressure. Luck instantly opened his mouth with hitched breath as his hand shot up to grab the latter’s.
“Hey, ow!” The boy hissed.
“Not that bad, my ass,” the flame mage sneered, placing a hand on Luck’s back. “Come on, let’s go get you some of Charmy’s food, and get you resting up.”
The cheery berserker followed in defeat, not knowing how to handle being out of commission.
After listening to his teammate and taking a nap, and eating a dish made by Charmy, he was feeling a lot better. The boy woke up with bright eyes and a big smile as he heard a knock on his door.
“How you holdin’ up, bud?” Magna entered with a patent grin, sitting down next to him on the bed.
“Much better! My shoulder must’ve just been in a weird place when I slept or something. Go ahead and test me, I’m cured!”
A brilliant idea of vengeanceto check on his friend’s shoulder brought a smile to the mohawked boy’s lips. “Healed, eh? You want me to test it? Here, lay down flat.”
A prideful grin tugged on Luck’s face as he flopped into his bed, face down. “Give me your worst, I can take it!”
“Oh I’m planning to…” Magna muttered menacingly as he cracked his knuckles. “Let’s see how much you can handle, big shot.” He sat atop of Luck’s bottom, just shy of the boy’s lower back.
“Wait! That’s not what I-” The blonde whined as he tried to kick his way upward. “Hey! Come on- EEP! Mahahahagnahaha! Nohohoho!”
“Oh? I thought you wanted me to do my worst! I’m just checking on your shoulder, that’s all.” Magna cooed as he pinched a “massage” over Luck’s shoulders.
The lightning mage whined as he buried his head into his comforter, trying hard to ignore the ticklish shockwaves being sent through his shoulderblades. “Cohohohome ohohohon! Nahahat fahahahair!”
“Are you sure your shoulder’s better? What about the rest of you?” The flame mage teased, grabbing one of Luck’s arms and holding it over his head. “You think that’s not fair? Try this.”
Blue eyes widened when the lightning mage felt a sudden, unbearable feeling in his lower ribs. “WAITWAITWAIT MAHAHAHAGNAHAHAHA! HYEHEHEHAHAHA!”
“Ohhhh! Magna found a good spot, huh? Gonna getcha, Lucky!” Magna sing-songed as he tweaked his teammate’s ribs. “Now I know a way to put you in your place when you piss me off!”
“NOHOHOHO MAHAHA—snort— MAHAHAGNAHAHA! PLEHEHEHEASE!”
The flame mage stopped in shocked awe. “Dude! Did you just snort?!”
Luck whined as he buried his head further into the blanket. “L-Leheheave mehehe alohohohohoooooone. Dohohohont behehehe mehehehean.”
“Mean? Oh Luck…” in a quick move, Magna had stood up and flipped the boy onto his back, capturing both wrists in one hand and holding them above his head. “I’m your worst nightmare.”
Little pops of lightning flickered through the room, accentuating the young mage’s frantic giggles as his teammate went in for the kill.
With face flushed and eyes squeezed shut, Luck threw his head back and snorted like a madman as Magna blew raspberry after raspberry all over his torso, infatuated by the adorable sound.
But if you asked him, Luck didn’t seem to mind at all.

It's on the Tip of My Tongue Chapter 2
character: yami sukehiro
content warnings: denial of feelings, jealousy
reader: gender neutral; ring magic user
chapter list: 1, 2 [you are here]
notes: also on ao3. 2k word count. pre-relationship. part of the stoprewind verse
Mealtimes at the Black Bulls were chaotic. In the week leading up to your official first day, you had no idea—you hadn’t dined a single meal with them. Either out for lunch with Finral during a break, or so focused on getting your room cleaned that you didn’t notice the plate left for you at the door until it grew cold, you hadn’t sat down at the table with everyone until the ebony robe sat upon your shoulders and the paperwork was properly filed away. And even then, it took the witch coming out to find you and bring you back already in the thick of it to get you to understand exactly how hectic things could get.
It was well-past noon, and you and Yami had wandered aimlessly throughout the forest talking. It turns out, he was serious about getting to know you—but his version of this seemed to only consist of asking unrelated questions one after another until you were sure he didn’t actually care about the answers he was getting at all. It became quite repetitive, a question and a reply, the captain barely sparing a moment to reflect on your answer given until he’s moved on to the next.
He probably does this to all the new guys, you thought, stepping over a fallen tree branch in the path, to help them feel included. You were going to be living under the same roof—you figured the plan was that Yami would spend some quality time with you before returning back to his normal routine. Break the ice, learn some facts about you, converse a little. The two of you were, after all, supposed to be working closely together from then on out. It made sense that he would be working from a mental script—he was the captain. This was apart of the job.
Nothing else to it. Nothing at all. But I didn’t know Yami was such a poor conversationalist…
It was starting to get ridiculous. You watched as he bent to pick the branch off of the ground. Pausing for a moment, he slowly rose to full height with it in hand, an unidentifiable look sitting on his face. Eyes on the branch, you watched as his eyebrows furrowed. And then, in a large swooping motion, he whipped the branch to the side. You blinked. He did it again, and again, and again, and with one step forward one more time, before straightening back up again.
After a pause, he looked at you, tossing the branch to the side. He said—“What do you like to eat?”
For a moment, all you could do was stare. What kind of a demonstration was that? And that’s what he decided to ask you? Mouth opening trying to formulate a response, you were needlessly cut off by a rising, grumbling noise. It came from Yami’s direction. The longer it continued, you realized that it was coming from the captain himself. Namely: his stomach.
“Oh!” you bit back a laugh, understanding the question now. “Oh, you’re—okay, yeah! We can find a place in town. Here—” a ring left one of your fingers and hovered in midair between the two of you. “There’s a place I really like that serves—”
“There you two are!”
Voice drowned out by the sudden interruption, the two of you looked skybound. Up higher than the trees, a figure on a broomstick waved, her dark robe stark against the sky. Flying in a sweeping circle, she found a break in the treeline and descend; the wide brim of her hat fluttering in the wind as she did. Landing, she walked over with the stick over her shoulder. Her eyes shone like jewels, tinted lips curving the closer she got. She was recognizable even from a glance—Vanessa Enoteca.
“I was sent to look for you guys!” she said, with a hand on her hip. She was as beautiful as they say. Perhaps moreso, in person. “Figured you guys would be in town by now, but now that I think about it—this makes way more sense!” She smiled at you like she knew something, but you were certain you had absolutely no clue on what exactly that something was. Before you had time to respond however, her gaze traveled. “A quiet little outing—I didn’t expect that from you, Yami!”
The captain shifted his weight, reaching for a new cigarette and swatting at your still-floating ring, causing it to return to your finger.
The action didn’t go unnoticed, but, “Lunch is ready,” she was carrying on. “Let’s get back and eat!” And with that, she turned on her heels and started down the path with a bounce in her step.
Hesitating, you adjusted the now resting ring on your finger. The final piece of the puzzle put itself into place in your mind as Yami’s hand came down gently on your shoulder as he passed you, leaning down so his next words were heard by you only—“Next time,” he said, scratching the hairline at the back of his neck. The action drew him closer, and his next words came quieter, a rumble that shot exactly to where it shouldn’t—“There’s a place I like. I’ll take you.”
---
Despite the order of finding work, it seemed like the entire squadron was there; filling their plates high and chatting all the while, loud and boisterous—this was the Black Bulls you knew. Sitting in a circle around a rather large table, chairs and sofas had been moved to gather around; the common room transformed into a space to share a meal together. The noise was incredible, each person’s voice raised to speak over the other, seemingly in a constant loop that grew louder and louder by the second.
“Captain!” called the man with the mohawk. Magna Swing, with his gloves still on and sunglasses pushed up towards his hairline. “I saved seats for you!” He patted heartily at the loveseat beside him, nestled between him and Finral. “Come eat!”
Vanessa found a seat on the opposite end of the table—and it appeared that the only remaining place for you was right next to Yami. A bit sheepishly, you followed him into the fray and sat down. It was a bit of a tight fit—the loveseat was of average size but Yami’s bulk was anything but average. An unfortunate shift in your seat could have your thighs pressed up against each other—and following that specific line of thought, you snuck a peek sideways out of the corner of your eye.
He was silent, face once again unreadable as he filled his plate with the buffet before him. The reach of his arm going across the table towards the various foods stretched his muscles nicely, and when he pulled back, the shape of his biceps had you—
At least Finral was on the other side of you. “Welcome back,” he smiled. “You two were gone for a while.” There was a certain lit to his voice, one that brought to mind the memory of earlier in the day, when just about everyone had laid witness to the misunderstanding in front of the base.
Your face burned. “N-no! We were just talking!” You looked towards Yami but any additional input you hoped he would have provided was nonexistent—his plate now towered high with several portions worth of food. He slapped thieving hands away, the movement drawing your eyes to the ring encircling his finger. Stealing the light, it sat vivid against his skin and the scars that embedded him. A new connection; a bond formed between the two of you, the ring a symbol of your—
“We were just talking,” was your explanation. For everything. “Just walking around the woods!”
Finral gave you another smile, polite this time, and raised his glass to his lips. “Okay, okay. I won’t embarrass you.”
“Nothing to be embarrassed about,” came Yami’s voice before the overloaded plate was dropped in front of you. “Figured we’d talk in peace. Finally. What with you hogging up my new ride’s time and all.” His face was still indescribable, but the angle of his brows were curious as he locked eyes with Finral. “Couldn’t even offer a simple hello before you started portaling across the entire kingdom.”
There was a certain hardness coming from the captain. A pressure that weighed you down, leaving you sinking into the cushions as suddenly an awkwardness settled within the room; a haze that slowly drowned out every voice. Not so subtlety, conversations stilled and all eyes came to your side of the table.
Avoiding every gaze, you focused your attention on the food. There was just about everything on that plate, the entire buffet’s worth of selection spilling over each other and tumbling down the tower every so often—and a glance at Yami found him without a plate of his own. Admittedly, with so many different flavors and textures mixed together, it didn’t look very appetizing at all—but a fork was passed over to you, so you started to dig in, if only to appear that you weren’t paying attention.
Picking at the bread, you listened as Finral sputtered. “I was just doing what you asked of me!” his eyes flickered in your direction. “Come on, I’m not trying to—we still have a lot of places to mark—”
“Now you suddenly want to work.” Coming from Yami, it didn’t sound like a question.
You knew of Finral’s reputation—he was known to slack off, often found leisuring around the castletowns instead of working. You frowned, remembering that day in the alleyway. The two of you were paired up immediately, imprinting upon countless and countless of locations, so really, who’s fault was it that you were often together? Besides, Finral was working—what was wrong with that? From what you’ve heard, he was usually off flirting…
Cutting through your thoughts like a hot knife, your attention was pulled across the table towards the starry-eyed boy from before as he called out to you. The conversation happening at your side drowned out as you tried to remember the kid’s name.
“Asta!” he supplied. “From Hage Village!” You didn’t know where that was. “I didn’t get the chance to ask you before—what kind of magic do you use?”
His obliviousness to the confrontation happening literally right in front of him was a breather, causing a soft reset in the vibe at the table overall. Slowly, conversations started to pick back up and the noise level steadily grew—not to what it once was, but high enough to no longer be as obvious about the eavesdropping as before.
“It’s ring magic,” you explained, trying to concentrate. With multiple conversations happening all around you—including the one currently flying over your head—you were finding it exceedingly difficult to hear yourself. “I can do a lot of things with it, but it follows the basic functions of rings as a whole.”
Asta shoveled food into his mouth as he looked at you in awe. Without swallowing, he asked, “What’s that?”
“Communication. At least, that’s how I think of it.” You thought of playing with your mother’s jewelry box as a child, and fiddling with her rings. They were cheap things, bought on whims, but you didn’t care. They were beautiful; hers, a piece of her left with you while she worked long hours, away from home. You felt your heart start to swell at the thought of it. Inspired, you carried on. “A ring usually signifies a bond or status, so I can use them as communication or tracking devices. Opening portals is what I do the most though—it’s just so much easier to take one step as opposed to walking all the way across town.”
Suddenly solemn, your eyes lowered as you remembered: “It’s not a really desirable attribute though, since it’s so easily replaceable with actual magical items. And it’s no good in a fight.”
“What are you talking about? It sounds like you could do all sorts of cool stuff,” Asta chewed. “Besides, it doesn’t matter what other people think—aren’t you here because of your magic?”
You didn’t know what to say.
“If you want to learn how to fight, I can teach you!” A messy-haired boy spoke up from the other end of the table. You recognized him as Luck Volta; and if his reputation is anything to go by, you knew taking him up on that offer was a bad idea.
His static raising your hair already, you frantically shook your head—“No, thank you, really, I’m not good at that—”
“If you need help with your magic, you should ask Gauche!” A small girl was stuffing her face. As she paused to down her drink, you were able to catch a glimpse of her features—Charmy Pappitson. She pointed in the direction of the man in question. “He’s usually using an item, too—he could probably give you some good advice!”
Gauche Adlai was looking at a photograph in his hand, hardly touching his food at all. Monotone, he replied, “I only help my sister.”
“Focusing on one aspect of your magic isn’t necessarily a bad thing,” Vanessa sipped directly from a bottle. “You’re working on portals, right? I heard you can make a whole lot more than you used to—and it’s only been a week! You should give it a proper spin.” Before you could ask what that meant exactly, the shine in her eyes appeared again as she stood up from her seat. Circling the table quickly, she came to a stop behind you. With each arm, she pulled both Finral and Yami closer, encaging you in a huddle of sorts.
“Okay you two, I think we can all agree that Finral can take a little break,” she smiled. “Yami! Why don’t you two lovebirds go on that mission you were talking about earlier?” She shot you a wink, “The two of you are perfect for the job!”

Yami Sukehiro
It was such a beautiful night as you were walking back home worn out after work. There were no people around as it was pretty late into the night. You just enjoyed the late night summer breeze along with some perfectly fit aesthetic music.
You walked alongside the road humming to that one particular song which you simply couldn't get off of your mind, as you plugged in your headphones and played that same song which had the necessity to be heard more than once, the feeling was beatific.
You enjoyed your night vaguely noticing some tried figures of other late workers walking, as they dragged themselves home the same way as you. Well atleast you had your songs.
It was Saturday so you could just blow off your pent up steam tomorrow atleast. You walked alongside the road while millions of thoughts lingered in your brain.
Suddenly you noticed something pass by but couldn't figure out what it was, you only felt the speed of the passing body through the force of the air with which it hit you. Before even you could realise that it was a motorcycle, it was long gone and now out of your sight.
You heard a faint siren of the police which caught your attention now that your headphones were plugged off while you searched for the source of that windstorm you experienced before.
The siren was roaring louder than before ringing in your ears as the vehicle was now in close proximity.
You waited in the same spot to feed your curiosity as to why was a patrol car out there chasing someone this late while it's sirens were blaring across the street, since it's not a usual thing in your place.
As you stood there another motorcycle was coming towards you fast but not as fast as the previous one and you could see the police were just behind him.
He was using only his left hand to balance the motorcycle steering and the other to support his head as his elbow rested on his thigh.
He saw you for a brief moment, and he honked pretty hard while he was passing by, but you didn't mind it though. Even if you were the only person around as other late workers were far ahead as a result of your stupid curiosity.
It started to feel uncomfortable as he kept staring your way even after he passed by. He was freaking chased after by the Cops and still this guy had the guts to ogle his eyes at other people.
But to be honest that momentary eye contact from this stranger made your heart flutter and gave you butterflies.
Time stopped for you and you could say the same for him by the way he was looking at you.
The rest of the world kept moving forward but you were static and only the different types of emotions were briming within you.
The way his eyes grew wider and wider as he came close to you. You have never believed in love at first sight, that was bullshit to you but now you have a whole new hypothesis.
His wide eyes, the slightly parted mouth, the way his dark ebony hair swayed and danced along with the gusting wind.
The eye contact you shared with this stranger didn't even last for a couple of seconds but the it felt like decades.
He could've gotten into an accident by the way he turned his whole head and was staring right into your soul. But right before the police caught up to him he vanished into a turn.
He took a cut at a narrow alley ahead as he escaped the chase. The police were not able to further the case. So they moved forward in hope of catching the previous guy.
Now you preferred only some peace and no songs in your walk because your phone was about to die any minute and at the exact moment you hear the same horn again but now with certain pauses.
You turned to confirm wether your bizzare guess was right, well guess what? It was.
It was the same guy who was freaking holding his damned head by supporting his elbow on his thigh as the "police were chasing him"; who had the audacity to ogle at people while being "chased"; and who was freaking shifting himself perfectly to see you even after passing by on the motorcycle while "being freaking chased", now he came from behind you once more honking his way towards you.
You gasped as he was just straight away from you and as to why this man is here or is he not afraid of getting caught or wether this other guy from before was caught by the police or not and all those thoughts which every random stranger would've had in this scenario.
He speed before you and parked his bike dead ahead of you.
Well now it was obvious that you somehow got yourself entangled into something which could be alot harder to get away with.
Why was the guy who was being "chased by the police" glancing at me?? I don't know.
So why is he now standing before me?? I guess we'll never know.
Is he a criminal? Maybe. Wait what the hell yn.
If so, could he be a kidnapper? No way, just look at him, he's attractive, but maybe, like who knows.
Even if he's one, there's no way he's gonna take me even if he want to, he just couldn't "perks of being a big girl".
(AN: Laughing in cardi)
(AN: Gurl let's be real; he... You mean him, he could freaking sabotage a tank if he wanted to)
As all these stupid thoughts kept flooding your brain he just stood before you. You saw him and took a few strides opposite to him and made sure there was enough space between the two of you.
"Heyyy?" You heard him speak, you knew it was you who he was calling out to but you pretended to think that you were wrong.
It could be creepy, a guy starting a conversation in an empty road in the middle of the night with no fucking people around, just before when you witnessed him on a motorcycle while the police were after him, "It's some creepy ass stuff even if the guy is attractive as hell, it is sure creepy"
You hear him call out more and abruptly he races before you and blocks your way. "Well, well, it's you I'm calling to darling".
Now he was infront of you, shoulders hunched to reach your eye level. You could smell alcohol and a mix of cigar in his breath as he speaks. "Maybe he's drunk" you thought.
"Hellooo... Earth to miss beautiful here" he says while snapping his fingers infront of you to take back your attention.
"I'm sorry, I don't know who you are" you say as you try to walk past him. Instead he just strides past you and stops you again.
"I know you don't know who I am, that's why I think it will be my pleasure if we both could get to know each other" he says in a flirty tone as a coquettish smirk creeps on his face. He moves his raven hair out of his face.
His right hand travels to grab your right hand as gentle as possible and holds the back of your hand moving it closer towards his face.
"May I ???" he asks for your permission to kiss your hand.
If this man didn't smell like fucking alcohol or if you didn't personally authenticate him being pursued by the police, you would've thought that he was "one hell of a gentleman who you would die to get".
You loose your composure even with the minimum share of physical contact with this resplendent stranger. He makes you nervous, well who could not be? Literally he was furtively moving towards you the whole time.
As you stand there in a daze, he motions his face, inching towards the back of your hand, you could feel his "steamy" hot breath, as your heart starts to pump more red blood cells to that one particular area of your hand where you could feel his breath which started to induce heat all over from your face.
You pulled your hand away before it could touch his lips, those beautifully drawn, glossed lips, which could captivate you in the state of a more blissful nirvana that you could never attain by yourself.
If only you could just fall right between those heavenly lips of his, you would get consumed with the darkness and lust of your soul and his while exploring a new and different world in them, which I assure you that you would love and proclaim as yours.
"Now.... Did I just take the awkward turn. Shitttt" he cussed. "I'm sorry, but i hope we could start again. I'm Yami Sukehiro. Could I be honoured to be acknowledged by your presence and blessed by your name" he says as the pounding in your heart was about to go silent any minute now.
This night with this creepy handsome stranger could result in 'literally' taking your breath away.
You stand there as steam radiates from your body and as you're imaginary nose bleeding makes you anemic.
"I'm sorry, I'm not interested. It's late I should get going" you say as you walk away, when you feel him not persuading you anymore you felt the relief what you'd feel when your almost full bladder which was about to burst just a minute ago is now being unloaded slowly intensifying the relief, yeah, exactly, that's how you felt.
Promptly you heard his heavy steps approaching you as you darted ahead on the road as nimble as you could only for him to block you again.
Now he coerced a piece of paper into your plam and signalled you to call him using his hand and waited for your reply.
You just nod your head without making any eye contact as you hear him say "Is that a yes?" For which he didn't get a reply as you swiftly paced away from the scene with hearing no more chasing and approaching foot steps you further crumbled the paper in your hands which was now gonna sit on your nightstand forever or in your apartment trashcan considering it as some paper scrap as there is no way in hell you would willing call a stranger who made you feel soo many ways within a couple of hours.
The tranquillity that this incident would just be a "I was creeped out by a weirdo on a late night Saturday" in your dairy or notes but instead beginning to collapse the serenity you obtained as you find him again and again on the same road to your apartment for it to be more than a mere coincidence as days pass by. While you persistently try to avoid him, you knew that you fucked up real good this time.

types of touches (black clover)
a/n: this is my first time writing for them & idk if anyone will read this so we will see how it goes!!
warnings: jealousy (nacht), other than that, none!
featuring: finral & nacht <3
Tumblr media
nacht faust: possessive hand holding
“are you ready?” nacht asked, glancing over at you. the two of you had been dating for quite some time, but decided it was time for you to announce it to the rest of the black bulls. you nodded, giving him a smile, which he returned before opening the door and guiding you in.
you were immediately greeted by asta’s yelling and vanessa calling for you to come have a drink. you smiled again, but politely declined, only to have finral approach you and start flirting.
“hey y/n,” he started. “how about we get out of here and escape the chaos, hm? what do you say?”
nacht grabbed your hand, possessively linking your fingers together as he stepped forward. “we’re together, actually.” he muttered. “back off.”
finral’s jaw dropped before he began yelling to the rest of the group what nacht had just told him while you squeezed nacht’s hand and giggled.
“some people have no shame.” nacht mumbled.
“were you jealous, my love?” you laughed, leaning up and pressing a kiss to his cheek.
“no. just don’t want anyone to steal you away.” he grumbled, giving your hand another squeeze.
“hmmm i think that’s called jealousy, baby.”
finral: hugging and gently holding the other’s head + hugging from behind
you watched as finral was getting ready to leave on a mission, grabbing his favorite picture of the two of you before checking that he had everything. his back was facing you and he was mumbling softly to himself, but you couldn’t help but worry for his safety and the rest of the black bulls.
you walked up to him, wrapping your arms around his waist from behind, pressing your face between his shoulder blades.
“hey, you.” he chuckled. “what’re you doing?”
“wanted a hug.” you mumbled against his back. “‘m worried about you.”
“aw sweetheart,” he cooed, turning around and wrapping his arms around you so you were pressed against his chest and placing one of his hands on the back of your head. “don’t be too worried, hm? i’ll be back before you know it.”
his thumb rubbed soothing circles onto your head, making you feel a little better.
“promise me you’ll come back safe.” you said, voice still muffled by his shirt.
“i promise, sweetheart.”

Was really trying to fight the urge to write Black Clover one shots, but I ran out of things to read on here.
I have ideas for most of the characters I want to write for, but I’m struggling with some of the plots. Anyway, if I do write this series, who would you want to see featured?

Potion Pandemonium
The strangest things can bring people together.
Mean to be a series, idk how long. This is just a self-endulgent, chaotic filled story that may get a spicy ending, we'll see where it goes. I usually like to include my moots in these kinda things, so if you wanna be a little easter egg in here lemme know, but if it's weird, then ignore me...
Summary: Someone slips a special potion into the drinks at a large party and Briar is left to deal with it.
Part one.
Tumblr media
Violin and piano played elegant tunes in a ballroom, to set the mood. With ceilings up high, held up by pillars, decorated in roses brought in by the Roselie family. Floating lanterns drifted overhead, casting warm glows down upon tables decorated in gold silverware, clear glasses and a variety of drinks or food. People dressed in ball gowns and suits milled about or danced with one another across an open space.
It was an elegant and sophisticated party to say the least, with the majority of the attendees being nobility. Anyone who wasn't was a magic knight that had been extended an invitation simply because of their occupation. Normally most of them didn't show, not wanting to be watched or judged by those in a higher class. But Nozel couldn't help but notice how many more commoners seemed to be here compared to last year.
He watched a few of the green mantis linger around the wine glass tower, talking quietly to each other as if trying to egg one another on. A couple of black bulls were also attempting to flirt with girls who obviously didn't want it, or were trying to control another friend from stealing more food than was necessary.
And yes. It did cause them to get quite a few stares from the nobility who actively tried to avoid them… He wasn't sure why they bothered to be there. No… that was wrong, he could think of one very simple reason, and it was the free food.
He sighed heavily, wondering why he himself bothered to attend. The party was meant to be a kind of… get together for the holiday: Three-Leaf-day. A day where one would give a gift to another who may have brought faith, hope or love into your life. A holiday for couples. So naturally most nobles attended in hopes of mingling with one another to find a life partner.
Something Nozel rarely ever thought about.
Sure, it was a necessity pushed upon him by family members. He was head of the Silva house after his father retired early with the death of his mother, and so it would be his responsibility to make sure the bloodline of Silva continued. His siblings could find favor with someone and have their own spawn, but it wouldn't be the same. After all, Mimosa and her brother were certainly not held to the same standard as either he or Fuegoleon, despite being cousins. They were a branch family. So him finding a wife was far more important in the eyes of their older family members, and other nobles, than say…. Solid or Noelle.
His own father had recently been pushing for it after unsavory rumors about him had been spreading around. He clicked his tongue in irritation at the memory of Solara having to come all the way to his office just to tease him over it. Sometimes he wondered what Fuegoleon saw in that woman. But she made him happy… so he wasn't about to complain too much, not unless she made visits like that regularly. He wondered for a moment if the pair of them were actually here.
"Are you going to be standing here off to the side the entire night?" A deeper, gravely tone came from Nozel's left and he had to take a deep inhale to mentally prepare himself for this encounter.
Nozel uncrossed his arms and turned to the man speaking to him. He was pale, with blue eyes that seemed to lack any form of emotion, sunken in cheeks and long hair that was white from old age. "Hello, Father." He greeted him with a small bow.
"You didn't answer my question." Lord Silva huffed in disapproval.
It had been a long time since Nozel had actually gotten along with his father. He had never really seen much of him to begin with in his adolescence, he was much more attached to his mother. But after she had passed away the gap between him and his children had only grown, leading to any of their meetings becoming unwelcome or uncomfortable. Nebra and Solid didn't even want much to do with him now.
"I'm not one for parties." Nozel responded dryly.
"How else will you meet a woman?" The man narrowed his eyes on his son. "You spend all your time in your office working. This is the only time you get out and even then it's when I force you."
Nozel did not want to deal with this right now. His father always had a way of bringing about a headache in him, especially with this specific conversation topic.
"There's actually someone I want to introduce to you."
Ah, the throbbing intensified.
Nozel watched the man gesture to a young black haired woman in a blue dress. She came walking up to them with all the grace a young noble girl should have, with chin held high and elegant movements. She grabbed her dress and gave a curtsy.
"Anna Lockheed." She greeted them. "It is a pleasure."
Nozel wasn't sure how to respond. He was too busy focusing on the ever intensifying pain at the base of his skull.
"She's the eldest daughter of lord Lockheed." His father added. "A large supporter of the Aquadeer. His other children have joined the squad but she has been looking to settle down."
"Ah."
His father glared at the obvious disinterest he was giving them. But Anna seemed undeterred. "I do apologize for this Lord Silva." She smiled kindly at him. "I know how inconvenient these kinds of moments can be within families, but even so I would still enjoy spending the evening with you, getting to know you."
Nozel clenched his jaw as he debated his next course of action. Surely he could accept this offer and be forced to waste his evening at a party he didn't want to attend with a girl he didn't care for. But his father would be placated. Or, he could do what he really wanted to do, which was tell his father to buzz off and that he wasn't looking to get married anytime soon. No matter how polite a young lady may pretend to be.
Luckily though it seemed the second option was more within his sight as he recognized obnoxiously long chestnut colored hair over by the wine tower. Any excuse to get away from this uncomfortable situation was good enough for him.
"Sorry but something seems to have come up." Nozel bowed to the young lady, now wide eyed with surprise, before swiftly turning around and making his way over to the table.
"Nozel-!"
"I didn't think you would be attending such a party." He asked the young woman, mostly to drown out the sound of his fathers angry cry.
Briar Rose turned to him. He had expected her to be even a little bit surprised he had bothered to acknowledge her presence there but she seemed rather relaxed. Maybe even a little tired.
"Ah well… When you live in Julius Basement you tend to get invited to nice things." Her tone held a hint of bitterness to it. When Nozel glanced around them he saw a few nobles quickly turn away from watching them, mostly other women suddenly hiding behind their fans or starting a sudden conversation with their partners. It was obvious to him that she had already been the target of others ragging on her presence in the party, but unlike some of the bulls who could let harsh words slide, like water off a duck's back, she was getting miffed. And likely had moved over to this table to drown her sorrows, even if just a little bit.
"You didn't have to come." He noted as he reached for a glass flute full of dark red fluid.
"I am well aware." The brunette glanced over her shoulder into the crowd of lingering nobles. "But not showing up would make us look worse than they already assume."
She must have been referring to her "squad". The group of researchers not often given credit for the advances and efforts they put into not only protecting the kingdom, but pushing its creative boundaries. Nozel came to develop an odd respect for them over the last few months working with Briar. The kingdom really wouldn't have as many useful magic tools as they did were it not for their hard work.
"What about you?" She asked as she turned to look at him. "You don't strike me as a ball kind of man."
He felt like he should have been offended, but honestly it was true. "My family demanded I attend."
"Oohh..?" She didn't smile, but the small squint of her eyes was enough for Nozel to see she was amused. "And how do you like it so far, have you gotten to dance with a lovely lady?"
Nozel let out a scoff and looked away in disapproval. Which was enough of an answer to prompt a small chuckle from the woman. "A shame." She sighed. "You look a little dashing today."
His head whipped back to her, stunned that she had given him a compliment. Normally the two were like a couple of cats ready to start a fight. Perhaps they had finally gotten comfortable with one another?
Or she was waiting for her next chance to push one of his buttons.
He couldn't help but glance down to his own outfit though. A blue and gold vest over a white top with puffy sleeves. His usual high collar and the silva emblem clasped his top buttons together. He wasn't super dressed up… perhaps she just liked things simple.
She however seemed less so, her dress was floor length and was decorated in white, gold and purple. It seemed foreign based on its design. She had her signature matching earmuffs on as well.
"Well…" He wasn't really sure how to take her compliment. Instead he brought his glass to his lips to take a drink, but as soon as the fluid entered his mouth he began sputtering and coughing.
"Nozel?" Briar's eyes went wide with surprise as he struggled to breath for a moment. She quickly took the glass from him and moved to pat his back a few times.
The man swallowed what he could of the liquid in his mouth then controlled his coughing. "I'm okay-" he held a hand up to her. "I'm okay…"
"What was that about?" Briar asked, her face now changing to utter confusion. "That came out of nowhere."
"I was just shocked by the drink." Nozel took several clean inhales of air to make sure his windpipe was clear.
"This?" Briar lifted the glass and looked it over. It looked like wine to her.
"It's sweet, it caught me off guard..."
She raised an eyebrow at him before she took a sip of his glass.
He gave her a look of mild disgust to share the same glass as him, but he was glad his reaction wasn't too far fetched as she managed to swallow one mouthful before she recoiled away. "My god it's like liquid sugar!"
Nozel turned to the table and all of the other glasses. He picked up another and gave it a quick sniff, his nose being assaulted by the same sickeningly sweet scent. "What is this?"
"I thought it was supposed to be wine." Briar's tongue swiped across her lips as she also looked irritated, which was surprising. The woman consumed copious amounts of sugary treats daily, so what was it about this drink that had even her in a state of disgust?
They glanced around at the others, and while no one but them was currently drinking, there were plenty of unfinished glasses across tables.
"Whoever picked out this drink clearly made a mistake." Rather than leave the unfinished glass Briar turned to a potted plant nearby and dumped the rest of the drink into its dirt. Leaving the now empty glass on the table. "What now? I was kind of looking forward to a drink."
Honestly, so was Nozel. He could still feel his fathers burning gaze on the back of his head and a glass of wine would have been nice to dull his senses.
"Want to see if the kitchen is nearby?" Nozel glanced at Briar as she already had turned to walk away. "I mean unless you'd rather dance or something?"
"No." He responded quickly. At least this way he would be out of the crowd. "Please, lead the way."
Finding the kitchen had not been hard at all. Asking a servant for directions and flashing Nozel's status was all the pair needed to get proper directions. So now with a new Wine bottle in hand and a few clean glasses they walked down a hallway looking for a place to settle and drink peacefully.
The hallway was as nice as the ballroom had been. A crimson carpeted floor with wooden walls and a carefully carved baseboard. A couple of paintings hung on the walls of important individuals but neither mage really cared to stop and look.
"Rosé wine?" Briar read the label in a curious tone. She was more distracted by the bottle in her hand than anything.
"The Roselie are famous for that wine." Nozel told her as he watched her closely.
"Charlotte's family makes wine?"
"You don't know?" They turned down the quiet hallway, not really sure of their destination at this point. "It's how they got their status. They own almost all the vineyards in the Noble realm."
"I see…" the brunette held the wine glasses out to Nozel, who took them, and then began trying to pray the cork out with her fingers.
"Don't be a savage…" he sighed and held his free hand up, liquid metal coming to form a corkscrew in his palm.
"Oh." She stared at it before smiling and taking it. "Thank you~"
"...You're welcome…"
With swift stab, twist and pull Briar had the bottle freed to let the aroma of bitter wine overtake them. "Oh now that smells much better than the other wine."
"Aren't you a little impatient?" Nozel criticized her despite holding both glasses out, which she filled.
"Well if the Roselie family provided all the drinks tonight I want to see if this is any better than that liquid heart attack in the ballroom." The woman took her glass and clinked it against his before taking a drink. "Oh, and it is." Much better, how wine should properly taste.
And while Nozel wanted to take a proper drink of good wine himself, he found himself distracted by her glass. More specifically, the lipstick print she had left behind on it. She didn't usually wear makeup…
His eyes flicked up to her face, still reading the bottle's information, and he saw she was decorated subtly with makeup. A bit of eyeshadow that was just a few shades darker than her eye color. A swipe of eyeliner, dusting of blush and the soft pink color of her lipstick, now smudged slightly from her drink…
"Hey Nozel-" she turned to him suddenly and it wasn't till then he realized he had been leaning towards her. Their noses almost touching as she stood there mildly shocked to find him up in her face. "Uh…"
But he didn't move to back away, his mind felt anxious over what he was doing, it was abnormal for him. 'Was she always this pretty, or smelled this nice?' Was it perfume? It smelled just like a flower garden…
His body refused to move, if anything he leaned in a little more.
And she didn't stop him…
Whomp-
Crash-
The pair jolted apart, eyes wide and faces flushed as they both turned to look at a door. Whatever atmosphere between them had broken immediately after hearing something break beyond the walls.
"What was that?" Briar asked, and she wasn't quite sure if she was referring to their moment or the sounds they had just heard.
Nozel took the opportunity to separate himself from her, now feeling in his right mind, and advanced on the door. His hand quickly closed on the doorknob and forced it open.
There was the sound of bickering women in a small study but as soon as Nozel made his presence known they silenced themselves.
"Charlotte?" Briar peaked in behind Nozel, her breath across his neck sent an odd shiver down his spine and he quickly side stepped so she could have room in the wide doorway.
The bickering women in question were Charlotte Roselie, dressed elegantly in a blue gown with flower embroidery, and a black bull Briar recognized as Cybil. A purple haired woman in a form-fitted black and gold dress. They both looked furious for whatever reason, their shoulders heaving from what must have been an intense argument. Between them was a flower vase, utterly shattered with flowers all over the floor and water soaking into the carpet. An end table was not too far either, knocked over from whatever spat they must have been having.
"...what is going on?" Nozel asked, he slowly moved to put his wine glass down on a nearby cabinet.
"None of your business." Charlotte snapped at him with a nasty tone, much to his surprise. He always knew she was aggressive towards men, but she always held respect towards her fellow captains at the very least.
Suddenly being talked down to by her made his blood boil. "Well it seems to have gotten out of control." He nodded towards the broken vase.
"I said it's none of your business!" She raised her voice even louder, this time throwing mana into it.
"You dare…" The Silva's lips pulled back into an angry snarl as he too began to raise his Magic.
"Okay!" Briar quickly slipped between the two of them, hands up to deter either side form stepping any closer or starting a fight. "No need to act like Animals…"
"Oh why not?" Cybil giggles from her place off to the side. "It's all Charlotte's good for isn't it?"
"What did you say!?" The blonde turned back onto her previous enemy, eyes blazing with blue fury.
The other woman laughed. "Did you not hear me this whole time? All your good for are fighting, running and screaming. It's no wonder why Yami will never notice you."
"Oh my god-" Briar's eyes went wide.
"What did you say!?" Charlotte practically shrieked.
"You treat him like crap!" Cybil shouted back at her.
"What do you know!?"
Cybil took a step over the broken glass to jab at the noble woman's chest. "You call him names, be little his manhood and scream and run just at the sight of him sometimes!"
"I'm just SHY!"
"I CALL IT BEING RUDE!"
Suddenly both women were at each other's throats, grabbing at one another's hair and clawing at dresses, all while screaming and hurling insults at each other. It was jarring for both of the others to watch, Charlotte was NEVER this petty.
"WHAT IS GOING ON WITH YOU?!" Briar quickly jumped into their fight, grabbing one and yanking the other away with enough force to toss Cybil onto the couch.
"Don't TOUCH ME!" Charlotte howled as she suddenly struck Briar across the face.
The woman was so stunned by the sudden action she didn't have time to react to the net of Silver that suddenly snatched up, wrapped around and pinned the Blue Rose to the wall.
"NOZEL-!" Charlotte seethed and writhed in her prison.
Briar whipped around to look at Nozel, who looked livid. His eyes wide and ablaze with fury as he had a hand up to control his magic. "Don't you touch her." He hissed through grit teeth.
"Serves you right!" Cybil howled as she got up and tossed pillows at the trapped Rose.
"Hey!" Briar snapped a hand towards the other mage and vines grew from the couch to grab and hold her down into it. "Enough of that, you're not teenagers! Nozel!"
She turned back to her companion who seemed to only be getting angrier as he was shouting at Charlotte. Was even he loosing his mind!?
"NOZEL!"
Briar grabbed him by the shoulder and forced him to look at her. Wide eyed and stunned, Nozel froze on the spot. All his attention now on her. He heaved to catch his breath but was slowly calming down.
Briar waited, ignoring the still bickering women behind her when she noticed something. Her hands came up to cup his face and, whether Nozel realized it or not, he leaned right into her touch. She used her thumbs to pull down on his lower eyelids as she glanced between both his eyes, his lavender irises now shimmered with flecks of pink and red.
"What on earth…" she gasped softly at the sight. It was both alluring, creating some feeling deep in her, like she was magnetized to him, and also frightening because something was going on.
"Briar…"
The way he said her name sent a chill up her spine, and not in the scary way. She suddenly jabbed him hard in the side to knock him back to himself. The man kneeled over in pain before the brunette swiftly moved to Charlotte.
The Captain almost bit her before she managed to grab hold of her head to check her eyes too. Blue with pink and red, but a lot more of it.
"Unhand me!" The rose snapped as she jerked her head away.
Briar knew she wouldn't have to check the last woman to know she was probably afflicted too. She quickly scanned the room before her eyes settled on a wine glass, the other one broken next to it. She lunged across the room to snatch it up and took a sniff.
Disgustingly sweet.
"What were you talking about?" She spun back around to the women.
"What?" Charlotte snapped.
"Your conversation! How did this fight happen?" Briar pointed between the fighting women with the glass.
"What is going on…" Nozel groaned, looking angry now that some of his senses were returning to him.
"You!" Briar pointed at Cybil who squeaked. "What were you discussing?"
"W-we were talking about Yami…"
"Okay??"
"And how I didn't think Charlotte was a good match for him…"
"Oh and you're any better?!" Charlotte called angrily.
"Better than you!"
The pair were once again hurling insults at one another.
"They both like Yami…" Briar thought out loud as the gears started turning in her brain. She was really scared of the conclusion she was coming to.
"Nozel, watch them!" Briar pointed at him as she put the glass down and rushed for the door.
"What is happening!?" He called after her.
"I'll be back, it's urgent!" She was already rushing down the hall, back towards the ballroom.
As she hurried through the decorated archway she didn't see too much of a difference yet. People were still idly chatting and dancing, though the crowds appear to have thinned out quite a bit….
"Where is it…" she looked around, ignoring the odd looks she was getting from others as she pushed through crowds to make it back to the wine table, its surface now covered in even more half empty glasses. But she cared less about that at the moment and more about…
Her hands grabbed hold of a large flower pot. Her wide eyes staring in disbelief at it. The once white roses were now blooming a brilliant shade of shimmering pink.
"Damn it!" She cursed and spun around to look at the people all going about their business behind her.
"Love potion…"

What if Leo got a serious injury and tried to hide it, then Fuegoleon had to figure it out by Leo nearly dying?
FINALLY IT IS COMPLETE! I’m so sorry you had to wait so long! I really hope it is worth the wait. I did slide in some Yunoleo near the end so I hope you don’t mind (I just had to I’m sorry :)
That aside, enjoy!
Ordinary doubts
Everything is going to be fine, he thought. Nothing serious, he thought. Well sometimes what you think isn’t always true…
One week ago Leopold and another squad mate of his were sent to patrol the border between the diamond and clover kingdom. They ended up getting ambushed by two diamond mages. Him and his squad mate defeated them both. However, during the battle, Leopold did get hit by one of the mages spell. He didn’t know what his magic was but it didn’t seem like the spell really had that much of an effect on him so he just shoved it off.  But, it’s better to be safe than sorry.. right?..
— — —
Leo was walking through the Crimson Lion Kings headquarters, making his way to the exit.  While he was walking, Leo suddenly felt a sharp pain coming from his arm. He hissed in pain as he lifts his arm up closer to his face and removing his sleeve. Leopold’s eyes slightly widen and he let out a small gasp. Looking at his arm you could see a light purple mark. Leo had never seen it before.. he figured he would check it out later as he pulled his sleeve back down.
Leopold was about the start walking again until an arm wrapped around his shoulders. ““Hey Leo! Where are you going” The person asked. Leo turned his head to face them.
“Oh! Hi Elliot! I’m going to the Vermillion estate, why do you ask?” Leo questioned smiling. Elliot was a good friend of his, he was a year older than Leo and had black hair, he was also tall. He kind of looks like Yuno.
“No reason, just curious and you’ve not been yourself recently so I wanted to check up on you” He kept that smile on his face looking into Leopold’s eyes. ‘not myself recently..? What the hell does that mean?’ Leo didn’t think or rather realise he was doing anything out of the ordinary.. “What do you mean.. I don’t think I’ve really changed as far as I am concerned.” Leo questioned seeing Elliots smile disappear.
“I mean you have been getting dizzy spells frequently and Mimosa told me you’ve been getting Headaches quite often as well”
Leo just stared at Elliot then looked down, he was processing everything the boy in-front of him had just said. Sure everything he said was true but he didn’t really think much of them.. “I haven’t really noticed.. but I’m sure it’s nothing! Leo gave him a reassuring smile.
“Okay then, if you ever want to talk I’m always available” Elliot gave him a smile in return.  “Thank you! Anyways, I should probably get going now, bye!” Leo waved walking away.
“Bye!”
— — —
Maybe he should have considered what Elliot had told him back at the headquarters..
Leo has made it to the vermillion estate in one piece, well.. almost…
His head was pounding like crazy, Leo felt like he was seconds away from passing out.. Leo held onto a nearby wall for support hoping to keep himself up.
Leopold slowly made his way to his room , keeping his hand onto the wall for the very short journey.
After making it there while on the verge of passing out, Leopold took a quick shower and got changed into some more comfortable clothes as he exited his room decided to just walk around for a bit.
He had felt a little bit more alive after take a shower so he was able to walk straight without toppling over. Leo was hoping taking a walk around the estate will make the headache also take a walk away from him, but sadly and unfortunately it’s not that easy.
Leo just kept walk losing track of his previous steps, soon he ended up bumping into someone, god he wasn’t in the mood for this..
“Dear cousin Leopold! What has gotten you into such an un-elegant mood” Kirsch said spinning some petals around Leopold in hope to cheer him up a bit. Leo just sighed and face palmed. Kirsch really know how to annoy someone even when they are at their worst..
He did a little spin as the petals around Leopold fell to the floor.
Kirsch put a hand onto his shoulder and lowered his head.
“I suggest you lift your head up a bit, mimosa is here you can go spend your time with her, you look like a zombie, don’t want to turn out like that as-Rasta guy now do we” Kirsch smiled spinning away as Leo scoffed at they way he talked about Asta.
Why did he hate him so much anyways?
———
“Then I accidentally broke the plate out of anger..” Mimosa finished explaining an event that had previously occurred in the golden dawn.
Her and Leo were currently in Kirsch’s room, he had left to go do.. Kirsch, things?.. So the two were left alone talking about who knows what.
“What a lovely day for the Golden Dawn.. I’m guessing 40% of the chaos revolves around you?” Leo laughed as Mimosa scoffed.
She rolled her eyes and tuned to Leo, her face morphed into a confused and conceded look. Leopold had a hand in his head as if he was in pain or something, his eyes were shut tightly as he shifted a little.
Leopold moved his other hand to his head keeping it up. “Leo?.. You oka-“ Mimosa was interrupted by the door being thrown open.
“I’m ba-!”
“Shut up brother!” Mimosa yelled seeing Leo wince at the loud noise.
She puts a hand on his shoulder; hearing the door close and Kirsch coming to sit next to Leo.
“What happened?” Kirsch questioned trying to cover up his concern. He may be a narcissistic, self-centred person, but that doesn’t stop him from caring about his sister and cousin. He practically grew up with them and believe or not has a little soft spot for the two.
“I don’t know.. I’ll go get some water you stay with him” Mimosa replied leaving in a hurry.
Kirsch sighed and moved his hands to Leo’s hair, he started to undo his braided and starting playing with his hair seeing how he slightly relaxed. He put a hand on his forehead leaving him with a confused expression. He didn’t seem to have a temperature..
Soon enough Mimosa had returned with some water, handing it to Leo. He drank half of the cup until Mimosa took it back into her hands and gave him a look of sympathy. “You okay now?..” she asked, giving a small smile.
Leo gave her a weak one in returned along with a nod. “Yeah better, thanks you two” He lowered his head.
Mimosa tried to distract Leo from his headache and started to bring back some of their childhood memories. Leo laughed along with her as Kirsch started to slowly do his braid again sneaking in some petals along the way.
Thanks to their help, Leo was actually feelings a bit better.
but it didn’t last for long.
———
After spending the day with Kirsch and Mimosa Leo went over and headed towards his room to get some sleep. His headache was slowly creeping it’s back to where it was before. He was just hoping he would at least make it to his room without collapsing.
Leopold was walking with his head down. The only thing that was keeping him sane was the sounds of his footsteps. He felt like he would go crazy if it was complete silence.
“Leo?” Said a familiar voice.
Leo looked up and his eyes softened. “Oh hi br-“ Leo stopped himself and grabbed onto Fuegoleon’s arm trying to not fall over. Fuegoleon held Leo upright giving him a questioning look. “Leo are you alright?..” He asked.
Leo pulled back away from him putting a hand onto the wall and one on his head. “Yeah! Nothing serious at all.. Just a smsll headache nothing to worry about!” He tried to smile.
Although, Fuegoleon wasn’t convinced.. ”Are you sure..? You know if anything is wrong you don’t have to cover it up, make sure to tell me if you feel worst, okay?” He smiled. Leo gave him one in return. He took a step forward, leading him to fall over only for Fuegoleon to catch him.
“Sorry I don’t know what came over me..” Leo laughed nervously. Fuegoleon narrowed his eyes. “Leo are you sure you’re okay..? I don’t want to push you into telling me anything but you clearly aren’t well”
Leo pushed himself back once more and looked down leaning onto the wall for support. “It’s fine.. I’m fine. Just..” Leo stopped himself.
Fuegoleon put a hand onto his shoulder. “If anything is bothering you tell us beforehand before we figure it out, you don’t want to get yelled at by Mereoleona do you now” Fuegoleon smiled giving his brother a hug. “I’m just worried about you, stay safe okay?” Leo smiled nodding his head and making his way to his room.
———
Fuegoleon sat in his chair; hands on his head. He was trying to process what had just happened with Leopold. He looked so.. so.. d-dead?.. His movements were very stagnant and it looked like he was at the edge of collapsing. Something is clearly wrong..
Fuegoleon put his papers aside and started to think about his brother and his current distress. What had caused him to be like this?!
He heard the door open making him lift his head to see who had just entered, without knocking..
“What has got you so down” She laughed leaning against the wall of his office. Fuegoleon sighed and looked down again. “It’s just Leo.. he has been off.”
Mereoleona stopped leaning against the wall and stood up straight hearing her brothers name. “Hm.. how so?” She questioned.
“Well for starters, I walked past his today and he was pale! He looked dead and kept leaning onto something to hold himself up. I asked him about it and he just claimed it was a headache” Fuegoleon explained watching his sister take all the information in one by one. Soon he noticed her clench her fist.
“So that’s why he rushed away! So I wouldn’t question him! That little-“ She mumbled, looking Fuegoleon in his eyes.
“Don’t worry about it too much, it might just be a one day thing, if it goes on tomorrow then worry” she scoffed.
Fuegoleon sighed and gave her a bland look. “No wonder Leo rarely comes to you for advice about stuff like this..” He mumbled making his sister shoot up.
“Well, what else do you want me to say?! I’m not your local adviser, now go to sleep or something and stop worrying!”
———
Leopold and Mimosa both surprisingly didn’t a have any upcoming mission and were told to take the day off. So they thought to use it to their advantage and catch up with each other and recall some previous events.
The two were walking through the Vermillion estate. Mimosa asked him about what happened yesterday afternoon. Leo himself wasn’t entirely sure so he just ignored the question and changed the subject. Mimosa took from that that Leo didn’t want to talk about it so she didn’t push the question and they continued to walk through the Vermillion estate.
Soon enough Leo stopped.
Mimosa saw him in the conner of her eye and stopped herself as well. Leopold had one hand on his head and the other on the wall for support. By the looks of it, he seemed to be in pain or distress. Something was clearly not right.
Mimosa went by to his Side and put a hand onto his shoulder. “Hey, Leo.. You okay?” She smiled slightly.
Leo just shook his head and hissed in pain. He felt tears slowly make their way up to his eyes and down his cheeks. What was going on..
It felt like he was being torn apart bit by bit! Every part of his body hurt and he felt like his head was about to explode!
He tried to respond to Mimosa but nothing came out..
“Should I call someone, Leo?” She questioned putting a hand on his head and noticed the tears.
Leo crying wasn’t rare but it wasn’t common. Usually when his thoughts get out of control then it would lead to him crying. It seems that was happening right now and Mimosa didn’t really know what to do. She figured calling Owen over would be the best thing to do but how so?! She didn’t want to leave Leo like this giving his current state.
“Kirsch!” She called out seeing her brother come by. Thank god, for once he had appeared when needed.
“Mhm.. Mimosa?” He turned to her eyes slightly widening. “Is Leopold alright?”
“Cut the questions and call Owen or any other recovery mage!” She asked. Kirsch wasn’t the type to take orders from someone at all. Nothing less, Kirsch obeyed and got to it.
———
“So explain to me word for word on what happened, try not to miss out any details“ Owen asked.
Kirsch had managed to call Owen over to check up on Leo.
Mimosa helped Leo get to his room which was fortunately, not so far away. Leo then sat down and leaned to the side resting his head on a pillow leaving Mimosa to go get some water and Kirsch entered informing them that Owen will arrive shortly.
During all of this, Mimosa couldn’t help but feel proud of her brother.. Sure she knew he wasn’t heartless but to think he could be so caring towards someone else and attempt to make them feel better really shows he isn’t all so bad.
Mimosa started to explain everything to Owen in is much detail as possible. Own noted everything down in his head and soon turned to look at Leo.
His eyes widen as he took notice of Leopold wrist. It was.. purple? A light purple to be specific. His hand was his normal skin tone but his wrist. Owen asked Kirsch to slightly pull up Leopold’s sleeve . Kirsch did so.
It was purple.. Clearly this is not natural and someone played a part in this. Owen decided he will take care of the details later and focus on healing Leopold.
Right now he was barley conscious, but he hadn’t passed out yet. Turns out the purple mark had reached his neck. Thankfully Owens magic with the help of Mimosas was making it ever so slowly disappear. Although the healing process was interrupted by the door being kicked open.
“Leo!? What happened!?” Mereoleona asked, well it was more of an order..
Owen stood up from his chair as Fuegoleon came in from behind. “Owen.. Is Leopold alright?” Fuegoleon asked trying to cover up the concern and panic in his voice. Mereoleona rushed over and put her hands on Leopolds shoulders shaking him slightly.
“Stop!” Owen said in the nicest way possible. He really didn’t want to tick Mereoleona off. She was already looking like she has murderous intentions in her mind..
Nothing less she stopped and turned to Owen, it seems she noticed the mark..
“What. Happened.”
Mereoleona moved away from Leopold and crossed her arms; shifted her eyes. She was clearly not in the mood At All. Fuegoleon put a hand on her shoulder in an attempt to calm her down.
“I will give you both the details later? For the time being can I resume to your brothers needs?” Owen was slightly irritated
Mereoleona stood there with Fuegoleon as Owen went back to what he was doing. As the time went by questions and worries kept piling up. ‘How did this happen?’ ‘Why didn’t he tell us!’ ‘Does he not trust us?’ ‘who played a part in this?’
The more things piled up, the angrier Mereoleona got. As much as she hates to admit it, she was just way too worried and cared to much about her brother and it annoyed her about the fact that he didn’t come to her or Fuegoleon about this. She would have to question him when he is better because no way she is letting this slide!
———
Owen had finished healing Leopold and had left him to rest. He had also explained to Mereoleona and Fuegoleon what he knew about the situation, he suggested asking Leopold when he is better, but for now to leave him alone and give him time to recover.
After some time, Leopold had awoken and was feeling a lot better than before. His arm was fine, his limbs didn’t hurt and his headache was very faint. A big improvement
“Oh!? You are awake, how are you fe-“
“Leo!?” Yuno exclaimed opening the door and rushing to Leopolds side interrupting Mimosa.
Yuno put a hand on his cheek giving him a sympathetic look. “Are you okay? Do you feel hurt? Do you need anything? Please tell me if so!” Yuno frowned as Leo let out a light chuckle. Yuno has always been so protective of Leopold
“hehe.. Don’t worry Yun, I’m fine why are you so panicked anyways?” Leo laughed
Yuno let out a sigh of relief and smiled at Leo. “Just making sure” Leopold sat up and gave Yuno a kiss on the cheek. Leo pulled Yuno into the bed and hugged him tightly. Mimosa just sat their arms crossed, unfazed by the situation. She had this annoyed look displayed on her face. “Ahem!” She interrupted their little lovers moment.
“oh, I didn’t realise you were here” Mumbled Yuno earning a raised eyebrow from Mimosa.
“Sorry to ruin your little moment but Mereoleona and Fuegoleon are going to come in here any minute now, even though they know you two are dating how do you think Mereoleona will react if she sees you two like this?”
Leopold and Yuno stopped for a second. Just when Yuno was about to pull away. Leo stopped him. “Don’t leave! I’ll deal with them later” Leo mumbled towards the end. Yuno chuckled and let Leo lean into him.
Yuno would have no idea what he would do if he lost Leo because of that.
—————
And that’s it! I hope you enjoyed this. There is something about people throwing doors open in this fic though.. and I realised after going over it again.

Will You Be Mine?
Pairing:  Fuegoleon Vermillion x Fem Reader
Summary: Being long-time friends with both Fuegoleon and Nozel, the reader catches the friends/rivals arguing about something they brushed aside, later learning during a royal banquet that the argument involved her...

"Heh, I find that funny, Fuegoleon."
"And why is that so funny, Nozel?"
Now, I've known for a long time that Fuegoleon and Nozel were friends, but rivals, bickering with one another, yet again.
Making my way over, they were so busy arguing over whatever that they didn't notice me coming up behind them, plucking the back of their heads:
"The royal banquet is today, don't the two of you know? Don't you think that you have better things to do rather than stand around and argue?"
"My apologies," Fuego said first, rubbing the back of his head and suddenly, they both grew quiet, turning away from one another when I asked:
"What are you two arguing about this time, anyways?"
"Nothing," Nozel answered quietly, unable to hide the redness in his cheeks, as well as Fuego, who answered:
"Yes. It was nothing."
"You're both terrible liars," I huffed, rolling my eyes, accepting their answers for now, and changing the subject, "So, you two taking anyone to the banquet?"
"Uhhh-," They both were stuttering at the same time, Nozel being the first to think of something:
"You'll just have to wait and see. Speaking of, I'm going to get ready for the banquet."
"As am I!" Fuego answered, flashing a quick smile before they both ran off, "We'll see you later tonight, Y/N."
"Okay, see you guys," I waved softly, waiting for them to disappear before I said to myself, "Well, that was really weird."
I figured there was no point in worrying about their bickering and so, much like Nozel, I went off to get ready for the banquet.
Deciding to keep my hair down, add some light makeup, and finally get to wear the dress I picked out. I'd been dying to wear it since I laid eyes on it and when I made my way inside the royal castle, I'd never felt so nervous.
Tumblr media
"My, you look so beautiful, Captain Y/N..."
Having all eyes on me in a new way made me a bit anxious, but a small smile on my face as I did appreciate all the compliments.
Making my way through, I felt some relief as I spotted Nozel and Fuego by the stairs, coming over and teasing:
"Were you two being so weird earlier because you two don't have dates?"
I only laughed as their faces turned pink, but freezing as Nozel stood alongside me.
"Never mind that," On my side, he helped me with the longer part of my dress so I could head up the stairs, saying more softly to me, "You look stunning, Y/N. Shall we head in?"
"S-Sure," I blushed, "And thank you, Nozel."
"Of course," Heading up the first few steps, I noticed Fuego on my other side too, helping with my dress and offering to me:
"Shall we have a glass of wine when everything begins? It is a tradition of ours now."
I could never say no to his smile, nodding and stepping inside with them, "Can never break that tradition."
The three of us together always ended up being a fun time, getting our wine, making a toast to a good evening and that's exactly what it was. Dinner was delicious, I also got to see some other friends of mine and it was nothing short of spectacular.
The moonlight and stars were beginning to illuminate the dance floor, countless couples and friends enjoying their own dances.
At that moment, I was still chatting with a friend, not noticing what was coming my way till my friend tapped my shoulder, holding her mouth and giggling at my flustered face once I saw Fuego making his way over with a rose.
"That's all on you," She teased, leaving once Fuego approached me.
I couldn't stand looking stupid like I felt I was, trying to make small talk, "Are you enjoying the banquet? Sorry for leaving you and Nozel-"
"You're fine, dear," He smiled, his voice making my heart flutter, skipping beats as he continued, "I was just wondering if you would like to make my night even better and dance with me."
Offering the rose, I caressed his hand while accepting, holding his free hand with the other, "A dance with you would be lovely, Fue."
Holding hands, we made our way to the dance floor, I was always locked into the beautiful purple of his eyes, my body flowing naturally with him as we began to dance. The sound of the piano and violins was the guide for me.
Only able to focus on him and the music, a bright smile began to break out on my face, giggling during some twirls, but losing my breath when he dipped me down quickly, noses almost touching.
My quick breaths caught his attention, his pupils expanding a little with his words, "I'm sorry if that startled you."
"Just a little," I chuckled, fixing our postures and once I was standing straight, I rested my head on his chest. He was so warm, arms keeping me close as we began to sway, smiling once again, "I'm still having such a good time."
"As am I," He cooed, kissing the top of my head, making my world pause.
I was seeing a new side of Fuego tonight and after processing that small kiss, I picked my head to lock eyes again, but his eyes were fixed on something else.
The smirk on his face too, was confident, but not in a good way in my eyes. Following the direction he was staring in, I found Nozel in a corner, arms crossed, with a mean look on his face as he watched us.
Taking a moment to think, I thought of their argument earlier in the day, and how they acted so weird around me. Now, dancing with Fuego and they're still exchanging dirty looks across the room?
Stepping back, it all made sense in my head and it sparked some anger, Fuego noticing quickly:
"Is everything alright, Y/N?"
"I need a moment to myself," Clenching the rose that I still had, I turned my nose at him and marched away, making sure to quickly disappear from his sight with all the bodies on the floor.
Heading up another flight of stairs in the castle, I found a nice balcony where I could barely hear the music. At least the night sky wasn't disappointing, staring at the stars and thinking to myself.
Nozel and Fuego were fighting over me and Fuego decided to make a truly romantic moment into some kind of challenge?
I was ready to throw the rose that he gave me, raising my arm, but stopping at the sound of footsteps:
"Y/N? What's the matter? I figured I'd come and check on you."
Of course, Fue had to come after me.
With my hands finding my hips, I was as stern as I was while scolding my squad when needed, looking him dead in the eye and asking if my assumption was true:
"Did you ask to dance with me and nearly kiss me just to poke at Nozel? Be honest."
Letting out a deep sigh, he was thinking of how to answer my question, beginning:
"There's no point in lying, we had been arguing because we both wanted to ask you to the banquet. That is true."
"And the dance?" I wanted nothing but the truth, showing him how I was paying close attention during our dance, letting out some emotion, "I saw you shooting looks at him. I hope you know that I'm not just some prize that you win for playing some game-"
"No, you're not," He said quickly, coming and taking my hands, "But if there are others who want you, I would like to be the one who wins your heart."
This time, I had nothing to say. Our tight bond was undeniable and I wish I had noticed the motive for their weird behavior sooner, but I decided to stay quiet, listening to what he had to say:
"I will admit, how we went about the ordeal was immature. I should've just grown the courage to come and ask you. So now, I will be brave and ask you."
"Ask me, what?" I whispered, the light breeze behind me mixing with anxious anticipation made me shake some, especially when he asked:
"Will you be mine, Y/N?"
Gosh, did he make me weak, but I didn't want to fall so easily. I wanted to see if he'd prove his words to be true to the heart, offering my hand:
"Prove your words to be true with one last dance. Just you and me."
"I'd be more than happy to," He smiled, truly confident this time, which made my heart fill a little lighter.
The music from downstairs was faint, but just enough as began to dance under the stars, and this time, I noticed how much smoother he was moving, focusing his entire being into this moment, and it was the most beautiful moment I had shared with someone.
Gradually, the music grew faster, as did our tempo, spinning, and with the sudden ending, Fue dipped me down again, but this time, his nose brushed past mine.
My lips never felt something so soft, growing deeper with his arms bringing me into his embrace, locking me in and showering me with every drop of passion that he had to offer, opening my heart like a door, arms around his neck and holding on as tight as I could.
When our lips parted, my eyes were still closed, taking in a big breath, softly looking through my lashes to find his eyes, carefully bringing me around and upright. He was a little nervous too, but after swallowing a breath, he maintained his courage, finding the rose from before, and asking again:
"Will you be mine, my dear Y/N?"
Fue proved himself to me and every single emotion I felt during that dance was new but real. I just knew it, holding his hands and the rose, picking my head up to kiss once more:
"All yours, Fue."

It’s on the Tip of My Tongue Chapter 1
character: yami sukehiro
content warnings: misunderstandings
reader: gender neutral; ring magic user
chapter list: 1 [you are here], 2
notes: also on ao3. 2k word count. pre-relationship (but we’re getting somewhere). part of the stoprewind verse
Your room, when presented to you, was covered in a thick layer of dust and cobwebs. It took you a considerable while to feather and air it out—but you just couldn’t find the time to roll up your sleeves and get down to the dirt and grime of it all. Between that, imprinting locations with Finral, reviewing all your past and future responsibilities, and preparing for the transfer into the Black Bulls, you found little time to settle into your new home within the base.
You didn’t even get the chance to mingle with any of its other members, much less the captain himself. He talked real big, but you’ve hardly seen a glimpse of him all week. This frustrated you—he wandered in, in the middle of your day-to-day operations, uprooted your entire lifestyle, demanded you work under him specifically, yet he has not greeted you once. If he was going to be this sort of captain, he would have to earn your respect.
You, however, were finding a quick friend in the spatial mage—going from location to location got boring fairly quickly and, as polite as he was, he seemed to drop the act when Yami wasn’t looking.
“He works me to death! You know how hard it is managing funds while having to pay out property damages every other day, in between having to joyride him around the country? I have to do paperwork on the road!” Finral stepped through his own portal and waited patiently on the other side for you. “It’s the worst, really.”
There must have been a change to your expression, since he seemed to backtrack a little bit. “But it’s not so bad! Really! Now that you’re here, I’ll have more time to work through it!” He scratched at the back of the neck as his gaze traveled. A tilt of the head—like he was debating on saying his next words. “And he seemed pretty sincere when he said you’d only be doing the transportation thing. He usually leaves me to my own devices until he’s ready to head back or move locations, so you’ll probably get a lot of downtime…!”
He smiled at you, good-naturedly. “Lucky you.”
This did not help improve your quickly souring impression on the captain. You spared a moment to mark the area before moving on to the next. It turns out, Finral had well-over a hundred different locations he had imprinted upon, not including the local area—and the captain wanted you to retain all of them! The nerve!
Hardly ever having left your hometown, the sudden increase to your mental magic map took a little while to get used to; and with it rapidly expanding every day, it was a bit overwhelming, to say the least. Finral must have realized this early on, dividing up his list into digestible sections throughout the week—but the two of you were far from done yet. First came the important locations, then the common ones, next were the useful areas, followed by the more niche places…
Despite Yami’s command of all of Finral’s impressions, the two of you found no need to share his more personal locations, such as his family home and room back at the base. Those were for Finral specifically, and there was no need to hand over such keys.
As a seasoned spatial mage, his senses were naturally more adept at managing a mental map of the world; for you, it was far from the case. After going at it for a few hours, you found that you developed headaches that could only be mended with proper rest or mana-regaining methods, such as specialized drinks or medicine Finral would graciously provide. It was more of a nuisance than anything else—all you wanted to do was finish this first task, but you couldn’t handle the load.
That’s something you admired about Finral; he was a pretty capable mage.
The day finally arrived when the documents were properly filed; Captain Yami Sukehiro stood you in front of the rest of the squadron and introduced you properly—as properly as it seemed he could manage, at least—followed by a multitude of questions from everyone in the room.
Instead of navigating through the sea of voices yourself, the captain made short work of it for you. “No fighting, no hazing, no eating; you just ate, no looking at pictures, no one can hear you, no shopping—we’re busy.”
“We are?” you asked before he handed you, rather unceremoniously, the infamous black robe.
“Yes,” he replied, short, before addressing the squad once more. “This is my new ride, so I won’t be sharing. Finral’s still here, if you need quick transport.” You sputtered at his choice of words—his ride? Sharing?
“Oh! So you use spatial magic too?“ A starry-eyed boy inched closer. “That’s so cool! Can I see?”
“Oh, no,” you shook your head, but at his continued interest, showed him the band encircling one of your fingers anyway. Haunted by the memory of your shoddy escape the week prior, you started wearing multiple rings on both hands, in addition to keeping one tucked away in your grimoire pouch, just in case. “While I do use a form of spatial magic, I’m actually—”
“What did I just say?” You didn’t need to turn around to know who was towering behind you, the mana in the air stirring like crazy.
Despite that, the boy carried on, unfazed. “But sir! The use of any teleportation magic must take an incredible amount of control—”
“Which is why I need you to bugger off, so my ride can be in top condition for me. C’mon,” with a glance in your direction, he gestured with a jerk of the head and walked towards the front door.
Stepping outside in the dancing shadow of the trees, you were struck at the difference in lighting, how striking he really was. Out in the morning sunshine, you forgot the words you held for him for over a week. The blue morning glow of the waking sun didn’t do him justice, if this is what he truly looked like, underneath the new warm hue. The thin undershirt he wore did little to hide anything—especially since he chose to wear nothing over said shirt—skin all but bared to the world, in all it’s severe beauty.
He was a warrior alright and had the scars to match, crisscrossing his skin in rough patches; down his arms, across his shoulders, and up higher, to the one bisecting his brow, and the one set at the corner of his mouth.
To keep from staring at his lips, your eyes lowered to his jaw, and focused in on the stubble, down his neck, evolving into the hair leading to the peek of his toned chest underneath it all.
Suddenly, you felt the need for a cold drink. You spun a band circled around a finger. “Um,” you began. “Captain Yami Sukehiro?”
“Just Yami’s fine,” he said, and went to light a cigarette.
“Captain Yami,” you said instead, resulting in a click of his tongue and quirk of his brow. Actually just Yami, I guess. You’d work on it. For now, you were trying to remember what it was that you had been meaning to say to him.
He led you out here with some type of purpose. You stopped fretting with the robe in your hands. You had to speak your mind, first and foremost.
“Yami,” you met his eyes. Steel. Like his blade, you did not know how much power it hid. But you were not afraid. “You said you wanted me for my magic. You may be my captain now, but I do not intend to be taken advantage of. I will not be overworked.”
His reply was instantaneous. It was different than before, when he walked out of the alleyway; instead of his entire being, this laugh came from the chest—throwing his head back with the force of it. Your eyes widened, before it clicked. Before, you felt as if he was laughing at you—now, it was something different entirely.
He smiled at you, big and proud, and declared—“I like you.” Warmth welled up inside as a weight seemed to lift itself off of you; like the smoke rising from his lips. He lifted a hand and before you knew it, he was ruffling the hair atop your head. “I don’t give jobs to people who can’t handle it.” You blinked. “Don’t sweat it—you’re my ride. Simple as that.”
So what Finral told you was true. You were so lost in that thought, you didn’t notice Yami’s hand go to smooth out your hair, running down, until it stilled, cupping the side of your face. You felt warmth once more, but not from the inside. “What—what are you—”
“Getting to know one another, like I said we would.” Before you could piece together what he meant, he pinched at your cheek.
“Ack!”
“You’re too serious,” he said, like a statement. “You’ve been running around all week. Every time I tried to find you, you were off doing some other thing. When you were here, you were either off with Finral or busy in your room. When was I supposed to be with you?”
It sounded distinctly like a pout. You stood there, rubbing at your cheek, staring at him. Yami Sukehiro, with a plume of smoke surrounding him, trying to wave it away. Like a distraction. He shifted his feet. Put his hands in his pockets. Removed one to scratch at the back of his neck.
He clicked his tongue. The robe you had resumed fretting with was snatched from you, and before you could even process it, Yami’s hands were at your front, doing up the button and straightening up the hood around your shoulders. “You’re a Black Bull,” his eyes were downcast, focusing on his work. And then, quieter: “I said I wanted you.”
You remembered the alleyway, and the sun eclipsing him; his touch, and the way he held your hand. “Oh,” was all you could manage. The transfer was busy work. He must have not realized that. And when he gestured to your still fretting hands, all you could do was stare harder.
“You have more this time,” his hands went back into his pockets. “That’s good, for you.”
The subject change nearly gave you whiplash, despite the pause between. “Um, thanks?”
“Yeah. Anyways, mark this one too.”
It was a simple band. Black, with no embellishments; and when he tilted it in the light, it seemed to swallow the sunshine whole. Dark and—when you got a closer look—incredibly inviting. As you held it in your hand, you noticed it was lightweight. Sturdy, with a smooth finish. Whichever material it was made of felt powerful where it sat. Indestructible. It would not shatter so easily.
It was only after you marked it did you realize you’ve never imprinted upon a ring that didn’t belong to a family member.
After you were done, he slipped it on—left hand, ring finger. His non-dominate hand. A good choice, for his fighting style; he wouldn’t have to worry about changing the way he handled the grip of his sword. It would be out of the way, but at the ready if he needed it.
“There,” he said, with a smile tugging at the corner of his lips. You tried not to stare. “Had it made. Figured I’d need one for myself—your hands are puny.”
You sputtered. “Not everyone is as big as you!”
He carried on as if you didn’t say anything. “Thought maybe, if you gave me one of yours, I could wear it on a chain or something. But that seemed like a hassle, so this was what I got instead.”
He held his hand up to the light. One of the things Yami was known for was his magic attribute—it seemed fitting that he would choose an accessory that physically matched the aesthetic; though, you never would have guessed he cared about that sort of thing. A black hole, it claimed space for itself; tugging you in and pulling you within his reach. His hand was warm, when your fingers intertwined.
“It’s beautiful,” you told him. The compliment, however, got drowned out by another, more pressing noise.
“Attaboy, Captain!” someone cheered from an open window. Then, from someone at the front door—“I’m happy you found the perfect ring!”
You turned to see what seemed like the entire base crowded around each other in windows and the entranceway, making no effort to hide themselves as they watched the two of you.
“That’s the man’s way!” The man with the mohawk pumped his fist in the air. “Straightforward!”
The witch held up a bottle, “Let’s celebrate!”
The short one next to her nodded enthusiastically, “We’ll have a feast!”
The man with the hair covering his eye looked surprised. “So this is what they meant when they said Yami was after someone…”
It appeared, where you stood, that there had been a major misunderstanding. Rumors are already spreading in the workplace—on your first day, nonetheless! Involving your boss. Your mother had warned you to stay out of Black Bull scandals; but there you were, in front of the entire squadron, probably ruining Yami’s reputation even more. You dreaded the headlines already—the immigrant Magic Knight captain, abusing his position of authority. Alternatively: the rookie mage, a golddigger.
In your horror, you spotted Finral in the back. Meeting your eyes, he gave you a thumbs up.
“What are you bums doing standing around for?!” Yami charged forth. “Go find some work, all of you!”
Scrambling out of sight, the group dispersed rapidly. Based on the shielded grins and fading laughter, you did not think that reaction cleared up anything at all. What a start to the day.
