#black silver broken mackerel tabby
Note
loving ur blog so much !! I work in cat rescue and im absolutely obsessed w their weird genetics they're such fun critters. here r some of my favorites from work :]
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
Such darlings!! and ty!!!
The first one seems to be a black classic tabby!
The second one seems to be a black smoke!
The third one stumped me for a while, because it could be a plethora of genes causing that coloration, so there are a few possible options. The first one I thought of was a Ccb pointed silver cat, which would give it the eye colors and tinted brown around the back of the head and legs, but I'm unsure. I'm going to leave this cat as unidentified for me to check back on within a month, and see if my answer had changed.
The fourth cat seems to be a black silver broken mackerel tabby!

Kuro and Madara both seem like maine coons but Madara(and also Leo ) also give me calico vibes. Kuro also fits the norwegian forest cat.
Himeru is one of those freaky ass lanky oriental cats or a russian blue
Adonis is an egyptian mau or a siamese, Kaoru is an orange, Rei is a regular black cat but with weirdly shiny fur and Kouga is a cat who was raised by pitbulls and will not accept the reality that he’s not a pitbull
Keito is a regular european/domestic shorthair but with a weirdly green tint to it
I would say Mika is a khao manee due to the eyes but he is big eyed dark brown colored LaPerm( the specific image I have in mind is one of the pictures in The Cat Encyclopedia and I’m not even sure if it’s for that breed)
Tori is a munchkin
OK OKOK SO i actually already have breed hcs for everyone bc im so autistic abt cats i was gonna wait to talk abt them as i made the cat designs but progress is going really slow on those and now that someone is talking to me about it i cant make myself shut up . i agree with a lot of these !!! im just gonna go ahead and list all of my hcs though bc im insane (these are my somewhat realistic color hcs for what they would be if i didnt choose to make them all candy colored when i draw them lol)
(disclaimer: this is on appearance alone, not all these breeds and mutations are ethical, not all these colors actually appear in the breed stated or are combinations that dont exist, and some of these colors/breeds are extinct)
gonna put this under a readmore cuz its ...... a lot (i woulda added pics too but theres definitely way more than 10 cats here)

jin - domestic (short) longhair (stray), dark gray, rough fur texture
akiomi - oriental longhair, fawn
kaname - british shorthair, blue solid, non breed standard (longer face)

Note
I’ve seen mention of a ‘wildcard’ pattern on here, but I don’t actually know what that means, what do wildcard cats look like?
Also, were anonymous asks turned off or is my app just broken 💀
Wildcards are tortoiseshell cats that don't follow our standard rules for tortie patch colours and patterns! I'm going to copy-paste the explanation our wonderful coder Key gave for tortoiseshell coding, she explains it very well <3
REGULAR TORTIE RULES: Cats with a base-pattern of singlestripe, smoke, or single can now have patches with single, smoke, agouti, and ticked, in addition to the previously possible tabby, mackerel, and classic. There is now a small chance for the single-patterned patches to appear with any base-pattern. Tortie cats with a base-color of WHITE will be given PALEGREY or SILVER instead. If a cat's base color is in the black or white group, the patches can be any color in the ginger or brown group. However, the ginger group is more likely. If a cat's base color is in the ginger group, the patches can be any color in the black or brown group. However, the black group is more likely. If a cat's base color is in the brown group, the patches can be any color in the brown, black, or ginger group. However, the color of the patches can not be the same as the base color. Colors in the ginger group are more likely. WILDCARD TORTIE RULES: For fun, there is a very small chance for the color and pattern of the tortie patches to be determined randomly, without regard to the rules listed above. (hope all y'all "rare cat" hunters have fun hunting for the most rare(tm) cat in Clangen - the male wildcard tortie)
As for your second question, your app isn't bugging out, don't worry! They're turned off for the moment, at least temporarily, as we were experiencing an uptick in some.. rude messages. Sorry for the trouble, I know I personally highly prefer using anon when asking stuff so I get that it isn't very ideal </3

Hello I found my cat in basically an alley but he is the most beautiful coat color I have seen on a random street cat but I can't figure out exactly what he is! The base of his fur strands are white while the tips are grey, but I can't find the ticked chart that I want. You can see at the base of his tail he has a 'middle part' where the white fur shows 😂 thank you you're the only one who knows cat genetics that I know and google doesn't get it 😭😭 (his name is Morpheus also ft. Coraline and Tristan)
Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media Tumblr media
hiii what a cute baby!!
they’re a silver black mackerel tabby - Silver because the hair shafts are banded with white (aka the white undercoat you see), Black because of the pigment of the stripes, and Mackerel because of the broken striped pattern along the sides
here’s an example of what I mean by banding on the hair shaft & a silver Turkish angora tabby

Vongola 10th generation squad (+Byakuran and Kyoko) based on @bonesetblues‘s KHR/BNHA crossover curiosity kills the cat (but satisfaction brings it back)
As yet in the fic only Tsunayoshi and Byakuran have actual established cat forms, so I was like,,, WHEEEE Tsuna I did him as a cinnamon classic tabby longhair. Not actually doing him as a Norwegian Forest Cat, but I did base his facial structure on one a bit. (And it is quite funny to envision him going from being one of the smallest of his agemates to having a good kilo on them) Byakuran Longhair, high white spotting over lilac (with a carried point gene because even carried it can affect the eyes sometimes). Also wings. He came out kinda Eh sadly, I think Hayato Mediumhair blue silver spotted mackerel tabby. Something about him gave me spotted tabby vibes (and hey, kinda a shoutout to Uri), and I got to make his facial markings be a shourout to his glasses. Takeshi Shorthair black solid, very low white spotting. Homozygous for Japanese Bobtail (fun fact, Japanese Bobtail is a Partial Dominance gene- with only one JB gene, the cat has a shorter than normal kinked tail instead). I actually concluded that Bobtail was a very fun idea for Takeshi, because it’d make him a lot harder to read. You can’t really see the emotions the tail would convey if the tail is that short, after all; like how Takeshi generally gives off cheerful vibes all the time, shrouding his actual thoughts. Kyoya Black solid mediumhair, with very oriental-type build and head structure. Lambo Did him as a kitten because, well. him young. Gave him Laperm-type curled fur, since Lambo has fairly curly hair (he’d be medium or longhair, but, well, kittenfluff) and curled ears (to reference his lightning horns). Black solid with medium white spotting forming patches to reference his general cow theming. Chrome Blue solid shorthair (pale/light blue). Gave her some white hairs to indicate scars because,,, how, exactly, did she end up losing an eye and internal organs and not have scars? (even if the accident didn’t leave any somehow, surely there were medical proceedures at some point that would have?) Mukuro Blue solid mediumhair (dark blue). You know, I didn’t realise his other eye was blue until right now? (Although I’m a manga reader so) Also his Eye of Reincarnation is drawn in its third path, Path of Beasts, because I Thought It Was Funny. Ryohei Shorthair blue silver classic tabby with extreme ticking and rufousing, and a little white spotting. I actually have other incarnations of Ryohei. Still a bit iffy on how our attempt at his markings/colouration came out here. (alternate version that can’t be put here because of image limit is a red tabby with very high white spotting, with his red patches being in more unusual spots than you’d usually have, and slightly higher rufousing than Kyoko)
Kyoko Longhair red classic tabby with extreme ticking and less extreme rufousing than her brother, and low white spotting on her nose. (have an alternate version is the same but just, classic tabby instead of ticked classic tabby, but again, don’t have the image allowance to put that in this post) Other characters who we are considering doing: Xanxus- gives me real strong longhair/ medium-high rufousing / black classic tabby vibes. Probably built like a maine coon. Big beefy boy. Squalo- It’d be kinda funny to have him be a shorthair? Just because imagining how he’d flip out given the reason he has longhair is mildly amusing. Blue silver broken mackerel tabby to go for shark gill/scale vibes. Maybe some white spotting? Reborn- author of the fic thinking melanistic serval, me over here going “would a black savanna cat or a very small black cat be funnier?” Like, a savanna cat is 100% going to cause chaos, they’re leggy and they’re a hybrid breed that’s still using the rather unfortunate wild ancestors (unlike Bengals which are now a... what’s it called, a fixed breed? and no longer use their progenitor species) so the non-domestic genes are still very much there. A savanna is tall enough to open your doors easily. But on the other hand, having a tiny black thing doing all the same things despite the size IS very funny to think about. Expected vs unexpected chaos, I guess? those are the only other ones that really wandered through my mind while I was doing these, but maybe others will in time

tbc rewrite stuff: the tunnel gang
also known as the Dark Forest Rebellion or, more officially, the Lights in the Mist.
a group of Dark Forest cats who live in an underground tunnel system. their unofficial leader is Willowsong, and they are allied with Rootspring, Bristlefrost, and Shadowsight against Ashfur. Some are canon characters, some are OCs.
(character details under the cut!)
WILLOWSONG (female, she/her although she really dgaf how you refer to her, aroace): Longhaired silver classic tabby with blue eyes. She has dark sclerae and is missing one paw (which almost appears to have been melted off). Mad-scientist type; knows practically everything about the Place of No Stars. Former medicine cat, was sent to the Dark Forest for testing experimental remedies on her Clanmates without their consent. Will do anything for knowledge and has a somewhat ends-justify-the-means mentality. Knows how to read and write (she's been here for a while, and she had to keep herself occupied somehow. Besides, now she can record her experiments better). Has some powers, all of which stem from either knowing how the Dark Forest works (and therefore how to exploit it) or her experiments with the dark water (which can be used to give a cat great power, as evidenced by. well. ashfur. whose rise to power was technically her fault).
SPARROWFEATHER (female, she/her, bisexual): Shorthaired cinnamon broken mackerel tabby with yellow-green eyes. Close friends with Willowsong, also a former medicine cat (was sent to the Dark Forest for poisoning someone she didn't like and semi-accidentally setting the camp on fire). Reminds me of Tim from TMA for some unknown reason.
RUSHTOOTH (non-binary, he/she, bisexual): Longhaired brown-and-white classic tabby with bluish-green eyes. His personality is admittedly among the least fleshed out. Was sent to the Dark Forest for leading a rebellion against her leader.
SNOWTUFT (male, he/him, gay): Tall white longhair with a massive scar running from his forehead through his left eye, down his throat, and across his chest and stomach before ending on his flank directly in front of his hindleg. His right eye is cyan with a dark sclera, and his left eye is pure black with a cyan pupil. Fog seems to cling to him, and he is not always entirely corporeal. Gained the ability to See into others' souls with his left eye during Willowsong's dark water experiments. Doesn't remember his life.
LYNXHEART (female, she/her, lesbian): Lanky brown spotted tabby with amber eyes. Wears a wilted flower tucked behind her right ear. Former serial killer who has come to regret her actions. Is not actively seeking redemption like some of the others (what she did was unforgivable, and she knows that), but is doing her best to be a better person.
FRECKLEWISH (female, she/her, lesbian): Golden tabby with one brown eye. Willowsong may or may not have compelled her to spill all her trauma the first time they met (she still hasn't apologized for that). Canon Frecklewish backstory.
FEATHERFELL (male, he/him, gay): Smoke Maine Coon with yellow-green eyes. Former kittypet. Went to the Dark Forest for murdering three people as revenge for his crush's death. Didn't die of any normal cause, but rather because StarClan (more specifically, the aforementioned crush) denied him nine lives after having already stripped away his original one.
bonus lore: cats fade not when they are forgotten, but when they allow themselves to, when they stop clinging onto their personhood. this can be through losing themself in anger and vengeance, or through simply giving up on existence. they tend to appear less cat-like, their appearance changing to fit what they're like inside, whether that makes them the host for a colony of worms (Maggottail), unusually dog-like (Houndleap), in possession of far too many eyes (One Eye), or simply more fog than cat (Snowtuft, when the others first found him). They can be (to some degree) brought back from this state (as shown by Snowtuft) by giving them something to cling to, something to rebuild their soul around. they will never regain their old memories or self, but they can make new ones. as such, their appearance is often somewhat different than their original one, even once they look like a cat again.

How would kittens between Goose and Jambo would look like ? Or Goose and Pearl ?
(Sorry the only gender i know is Jambo being male)
Goose and Pearl is fun!!!
So Goose is a cream (dilute red) solid tom with short fur and low white spotting (XOY dd aa LL Ss CC)
Pearl is a black spotted tabby molly with short hair and no white spotting (XoXo BB DD AA tata McMc SpSp LL Ss CC)
She likely also displays silver, but I’m not using the silver gene here for sake of simplicity
All toms have to be black here, because they can only get red from their mothers, since it’s sex-linked. Additionally, since mollies can’t get black from their father or red from their mother, their only option here is tortoiseshell.
All kittens are spotted tabbies. Technically they should be broken mackerels, but broken mackerels are showing the spotted gene. It just happens that the spotted gene is separate from the mackerel gene which controls mackerel/classic, so sometimes the spots aren’t perfectly broken up.
One noticable difference from the other pairs so far is that these kittens can only have low or no white spotting!
Kitten 1 - Black tom, spotted tabby, short hair, no white spotting (XoY BB Dd Aa tata Mcmc Spsp LL Ss CC)
Looks a lot like mama Pearl :)
Tumblr media
Kitten 2 - Black tortoiseshell molly, spotted tabby, short hair, low white spotting (XOXo BB Dd Aa tata Mcmc Spsp LL Ss CC)
Tumblr media
Kitten 3 - Black tom, spotted tabby, short hair, low white spotting (XoY BB Dd Aa tata Mcmc Spsp LL Ss CC)
Tumblr media
Kitten 4 - Black tortoiseshell molly, spotted tabby, short hair, no white spotting (XOXo BB Dd Aa tata Mcmc Spsp LL Ss CC)
This one took a while because for some reason finding a good image of a spotted torbie without white is really hard? And this one honestly does have some white, just pretend it isn’t there at all I guess bc it’s the closest we’re gonna get

Hello! :) I've been wanting to use polygenes in my cat's genos, but I have no idea how haha. Do you have any idea how I could represent, for example, the polygenes that control spotted tabby? I have a decent idea of how polygenes themselves work, but not really how to represent them. Could a simplified version that just has more sp genes (so, SpSpspsp instead of just Spsp, for example) work, or would that be inaccurate or not work at all for some/all polygenes? Tysm in advance! <3
Hi!
I actually have a polygenic version of my kitten generator to tidy up and release soon, in the meantime I can give you the overview of what I'm currently using.
While it would be accurate to actually list out multiple loci, it is also kind of tedious. So I just pick a symbol, and pair it with a number. You can make the maximum number as big as you want depending on how granular you want to be, but currently I'm using 1-10 for wide band and 1-6 for everything else.
The ones in the calculator are:
Pigment (Pig): 1 (light) - 6 (dark). Determines the overall density of pigment which affects the color of solids and stripes on tabbies.
Rufousing (Ruf): 1 (cool) - 6 (warm). Determines density of red pigment, which affects redness of red-based tabbies, warm undertones on black-based tabbies, and tarnishing on silvers.
Wide Band (Wb): 1 (very low) - 10 (tipped). 1-6 covers the nongolden range, after that 7 is golden/very light silver, 8 is shaded, 9 is tipped, and 10 is the extreme phenotype such as copper.
Spotted (Sp): 1 (full mackerel) - 6 (full spotted). Middle is varying degrees of broken/loosely spotted.
Ticked Modifier (Tm): 1 (standard ticked) - 6 (agouti tabby). Can also be represented nicely as incomplete dominant if polygenes are too much of a pain.
Bengal Modifier (Bm): 1 (standard pattern) - 6 (bengal pattern). Same deal as Tm.
White Modifier (Wm): 1 (low degree) - 6 (high degree). Determines more precisely the amount of white spotting in addition to the actual white gene. For example, a Wsw Wm1 cat would have very little visible white, a WsWs Wm1 cat would be a bicolor.
Eye Pigmentation (P) and Eye Refraction (R) are also 1-6 and follow my convoluted rules for eye color modeling.

Can I ask for hypokits between Jay & Kestrelflight and Lion & Berry, with Berry and Jay being trans? I find cat genetics really interesting and the fact that you can Just Do It blows my mind
yes, you can. okay: i realize i've never said this publicly, but for Reasons, i only do one set of hypokits/ask (mostly i'd never answer them if i accepted more than one), so i'll do jay&kestrel here, and then kindly ask you to resend the lion/berry ones. ty for ur patience <3
and yes, yes cat genetics are fascinating. i'm planning on...well, not sure when, but i'd like to Expand my alleles and such to include some fun things, so next time i have some free time and can sit down with a pile of resources? yeah.
alright, on topic: jay and kestrel.
here's my jay info from when i last did him, altho i'm changing him carrying cinnamon to him carrying chocolate because it makes more sense, and i won't be able to "force" a full set of options here anyway.
Bb/Dd/Ii/wbwb/Aa/tata/spsp/tbtb/Ll/wsws/o/CC
(he's not tortie so it doesn't matter if he's carrying the kits. when it comes to trans relationships it only Really matters if cats are tortie or mixed between ginger and not ginger. i.e., two grey cats are always going to have kits that are black, brown, cinnamon, or associated dilutes and etc., two ginger cats will always be ginger or cream, etc. that's just a quick genetics comment for u xd.)
and for kestrelflight...
urgh okay so i could handwave and say he has vitiligo (which wow! i've finally learned to spell bc in my head it sounds like "vigil-ato," rhymes with "gelato," because the part of my brain that does letters -> sounds is, scientifically speaking, broken), but i want some variety so...
Bb/Dd/Ii/wbwb/aa/tata/Spsp/tmtb/Ll/Wsws/o/CC
kestrel could carry cinnamon instead of chocolate but it doesn't matter and it saves me from writing out an extra character. i didn't give him ticked tabby because of tabby breakthrough stuff and trying to support the idea of spots. i'd give him two copies but i want there to be kit variety so.
alright! options:
BB, Bb (black); bb (chocolate)
DD, Dd (not dilute); dd (dilute)
II, Ii (silver); ii (not silver)
wbwb (no wide bands)
Aa (tabby); aa (solid)
tata (not ticked tabby)
Spsp (spotted); spsp (not spotted)
tmtb (mackerel); tbtb (classic)
LL, Ll (short hair); ll (long hair)
Wsws (<50% white); wsws (no white)
o, oo (black)
CC (no albino)
and examples...
k1: lilac smoke she-cat with long fur (bb/dd/Ii/wbwb/aa/tata/spsp/tbtb/ll/wsws/oo/CC)
k2: black silver spotted tabby tom (BB/Dd/II/wbwb/Aa/tata/Spsp/tmtb/Ll/wsws/o/CC)
k3: blue and white she-cat with long fur (Bb/dd/ii/wbwb/aa/tata/Spsp/tbtb/ll/Wsws/oo/CC)
k4: black and white smoke she-cat with long fur (BB/Dd/Ii/wbwb/aa/tata/spsp/tbtb/ll/Wsws/oo/CC)
and example pics...
okay i got distracted because i was pointed to a new resource for cat genetics and ended up buying a book and. well. it's a long story. but y'know. i was hoping for new cat photos but unfortunately it seems not but still. new book! very exciting. do i have time to read it? not really. sigh.
k1: lilac smoke (pretty bb)
k2: black silver spotted tabby
k3: blue bicolour
k4: black bicolour (usually i do prefer coat colours to patterns when it comes to choosing photos but i think we've seen enough black smoke cats that i can be forgiven for my bias of black and white cats)

Zepp's Wc Design Headcanons
-- I've always pictured Poppyfrost as a diluted tortie point. Anytime the -frost suffix is on a cat I alwasy see them as white or pointed tbh.
Tumblr media
-- Bluestar ABSOLUTELY resembles a Nebelung in my eyes I can not change this anymore. We need more long haired bluestar.
-- Crowfeather has the Windclan look, that being similar to an Oriental Shorthair with big ears and a thin frame. He's blue but it's on the darker end.
-- Nightcloud looks much more like what you'd see from Shadowclan than windclan with a shorter, stockier build. Fluffy classic smoke tabby. I can't see her as anything but tabby tbh and it could be because my brain needed some kind of destinction between her a Breezepelt.
-- Breezepelt looks JUST like his dad with the same ears, eyes, and frame but gets his neck fur and feather tail from his mama. He's a classic smoke as well but it's not as obvious as Nightcloud, he looks more solid.
-- Leafpool looks like a cinnamon tortie I don't make the rules. (This is actually exactly how I see Leafpool, Lionblaze got his lion look from somewhere and it wasnt rat ass Crowfeather)
Tumblr media
-- Sasha makes more sense as a flame point than a seal point seeing as Mothwing was straight up red/cream. I also think it would explain why shes never described with typical pointed features like dark legs and face because they just don't always show up well.
Tumblr media
-- I've always liked seal point Hawkfrost designs with more white on them even though I have NEVER drawn him that way for some reason. I think it separates him a bit more from every other tabby in wc. Pretty Boy Hawkfrost has also been burned into my brain the past several years.
Tumblr media
-- Longtail has short legs, not like munchkin short, but short enough that when compared to his tail it's noticeable. It's a trait from grandpa Adderfang that skipped Patchpelt and rammed into Longtail.
-- Sandstorm will always be a torbie in my mind no you can't change it. I have two Sandstorm variations, one being a cinnamon torbie and one being a regular Torbie so it looks like her fur is colored like yellow and black sand.
-- Ashfur is a big guy, big enough to square up to Bramble if he wasn't such a coward. He gets this from his mama Brindleface who I've always seen as a pretty big cat. Fernsong has it too actually.
-- Birchfall is a silver broken mackerel tabby. Honestly I'm not sure why he isn't grey or silver in canon anyway since he was named Birch as a kit but whatever.
Tumblr media
-- Shadowsight looks a lot more like Tigerstar II than Dovewing. Big, solid, fluffy boy.
-- Flipclaw is a red tabby to me. I used to see him as a brown tabby but I can't now.
Tumblr media
-- Millie is a silver torbie. I like this a lot because it helps separate her from "Silverstream 2" a bit more. Also just makes her a unique cat since I can't see any others as silver torbies. Probably carries point like Greystripe too.
Tumblr media
-- Blossomfall has Vitilago! That's it, thats the headcanon.
-- Briarlight is a dark seal point. The kind that almost look Tonkinese/Burmese.
Tumblr media
-- I have ALWAYS seen Tree and Rootspring as big cats. I know in canon Tree is supposed to be smaller but screw that big fluffy dad. I'vre tried drawing Tree like he is in the books and it never sticks. Rootspring is a bigger cat because of the Sisters' blood on his dads side and Hawkwing's blod on his mothers side. Not as big as Tree and hes not as solid but still bigger than the Skyclan apprentices at least. Which kind of adds on to how silly it is to the others that he's just kind of bad at everything at first.
-- SPEAKING of cats I imagine bigger than they are in canon Alderheart is absolutely the same size as his dad. I can't see him as a small cat, just gentle giant.
-- Same with Feathertail too she's a big cat like Graystripe and looks even bigger on top of it with her thicker fur.
-- Rosetail was a chimera. I've seen some chimera cats that have their tail a different coat and not the rest of their body before. It's rare but it does happen.
-- Crookedstar is a black tabby and Oakheart is a greyish tabby. They have two grey parents and honestly with their names it would make more sense with Crooked being named Storm as a kit and oak trees tending to have a more washed out color of greyish brown. (Crooked on the left, Oak on the right)
Tumblr media Tumblr media
I ran out of images I could add so there might be a part 2 to this eventually but for now this is just about it!

hey! i really adore your art and just wanna ask what kind of cat breed you imagine thunderclan or skyclan as? you've said before that you imagine shadowclan as cobby cats :0
oh man I used to have this really old guide I made describing my ideal breeds/types for each clan but I think it was on my old blog ;o;
so let’s do this again cause im bored lol
SO as much as the Erins like to push the “cats can’t have kits w/ a cat outside their clan”, that doesn’t really work irl due to years of inbreeding. Old forest queens typically kept the father a secret unless the two are a bonded/mated pair who have multiple litters. Queens will sometimes seek mates in loners/rogues, or cross-clan breeding. River/Wind and Shadow/Sky are not uncommon, but Thunder is extremely traditional and view cross-breeding as an extreme sin (esp with a rival clan)
Thunderclan - largest cats in size, classic & mackerel tabbies, black tabbies & torbies, solid colors are a bit uncommon, typically long-haired, rare traits are white/silver/smoke/fawn/lilac/cream/cinnamon/ticked tabbies, least likely to bring in outside blood due to traditionalist views (pre-Firestar), low birthrate & small litters due to inbreeding
Breed Ideals: Maine Coon, Norwegian Forest, Nebelung
(Maine Coon black classic tabby)
Tumblr media
Riverclan - 2nd biggest cats in size, classic & broken mackerel & spotted tabbies, can include any color but black or blue silver is most common, white is extremely common, typically long or medium furred, short tails are a unique trait, not uncommon to breed with passing loners at the farm (so long as a Kit doesn’t have split allegiances between clans they don’t really care - same with Wind/Shadow)
Breed Ideals - Turkish Angora, Cymric, Turkish Van, Cashmere Bengal
(Turkish Angora black silver mackerel tabby bicolor)
Tumblr media
SkyClan (old forest) - typically medium or long furred, powerful & muscular legs, mackerel & spotted & ticked tabbies, white/chocolate/cinnamon/red not uncommon, silver is rare, curled ear mutation is common due to inbreeding (similar to Thunder)
Breed Ideals - Norwegian Forest, Somali, American Curl, Siberian
(Norwegian Forest black calico)
Tumblr media
Windclan - cats can be tall/large but are usually very skinny & lean compared to other clans, various colors/patterns due to outbreeding with loners/rogues to keep bloodlines healthy, short-furred typically, ticked & spotted tabbies are most common but solid & pointed cats are common as well, large ears & long legs to help them hunt in tall grass
Breed Ideals - Oriental, Egyptian Mau, Ocicat, Havana Brown, Serengeti
(Oriental Shorthair chocolate spotted tabby bicolor)
Tumblr media
Shadowclan - small but stocky, typically dark colors & solids to help them blend in at night, large round eyes, curled/permed hair mutation is not uncommon, typically classic tabbies, white/fawn/lilac/cream are rare
Breed Ideals - Siberian, Selkirk Rex, Burmese, British Short/Longhair
(British Longhair black smoke)

Feliquest is pleased to announce that our head artist has completed all the files needed for our cat creator demo!  In celebration of that, here’s a little post introducing it.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Version one of the cat demo features some basic genes, but does not reflect the final art style for the site. This is essentially an early preview of what we can do and a loose guideline for what to expect from the game. Some things will change - for example, the full game will feature two different spotted tabby layers depending on if the cat is mackerel or classic tabby, and we will be switching to the most recent information regarding the ticked tabby system. Cat genetics are constantly changing, new discoveries are being made and old knowledge is being rehashed and expanded on - we aim to reflect that in Feliquest.
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
The demo will include black, chocolate, cinnamon, and red coat colors, as well as the dilute gene which can be used to create blue, lilac, fawn, and cream. Tortoiseshell will be available as well, with the patterning changing depending on the amount of white spotting the cat has just like in real cats! Classic tabby, broken classic tabby, mackerel tabby, broken mackerel tabby, spotted tabby, heterozygous ticked tabby, and homozygous ticked tabby will be available, and a wider selection of tabbies will be featured in the end game. Ten different levels of white spotting will be available, ranging from mittens and a white chin to dominant white covering the entire cat. Colorpoint, mink, sepia, silver, and smoke will be featured as well. These traits can be combined to produce a total of 8,962 unique phenotypes!
 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
While the files are all complete, our programmer is still in the process of coding the demo, a process we hope to have finished by the end of April. In the meantime - can you guess what phenotypes these cats are?
