EXPECT THE UNEXPECTED. There was only one way to Wizard Beach. Shabby shacks lined the path; very easy for people who lived there to see who went in and out, a detail I wish I had noticed at the time. We carried a small blue backpack with phones, a GoPro, $20 in cash, water and a towel. Already on alert, we set our stuff down close enough to the water to keep an eye on it. Of course, it wasn't until I looked up from the horizon that I saw a man making a beeline from the trees about to grab our backpack. I yelled: “That man is trying to steal our stuff!”, and rushed out of the water to chase him down the beach and into the jungle barefoot. 🎒 BE AWARE OF YOUR SURROUNDINGS. Nate followed, but yelled for me to stop because: “He could be dangerous”. I didn’t stop until I ran out of breath and thought I lost him. I had been on his heels, but it was clear this wasn't his first rodeo. Even with the adrenaline pumping through me, an eerie quietness fell upon me. I knew he was still there hiding - camouflaged in the lush greenery. I screamed: “You don’t have to do this!”. Nate walked me back to the beach, breathless and feeling defeated, to grab the rest of our stuff. We desperately wondered how to get new phones on these secluded islands, and where our Karma had gone wrong. We had to rush back before dark, but I couldn’t shake the feeling this was all a setup. What if he was still hiding in the jungle? Halfway on the walk back, I see our blue backpack at the foot of a tree on the path. A CLEAR INTENTION! I was sure this was a trap in the plot of a Hollywood horror movie. We looked around, slowly approached it, picked it up, and it was heavy. EVERYTHING WAS INSIDE IT. The only thing missing was the $20 in cash. This false sense of security was scarier than thinking we had been robbed. 💵 BUT THEN I THOUGHT ABOUT THE BIGGER PICTURE. Why only steal the $20 and leave the rest? It dawned on me this was about survival for his family, and putting food on the table. As traumatic as the situation was for us at the time, we learned a lot about the economy in Panama, and felt for him and his family. 🙏🏽 #GETLOSTwithAmberlynn #travelblogger, #travel, #traveltheworld (at Bocas del Toro, Panama) https://www.instagram.com/p/CnAUnEivONU/?igshid=NGJjMDIxMWI=

I wonder if the chronology of my last post is coherent enough...
Missing context:
In summer 2010 just after the g20 riots i moved to toronto with veña and simon, we got the cheapest 3 bedroom we could find, it was "above the 401" as they say, the hinterlands. Veña and i moved in first and smoked salvia in the empty apartment, simon got there a month later. I got a job at a queen street headshop after a couple months, hand of god given that i dropped off 5 resumes total and spent all day every day blogging and agonizing over where i could get decent weed and how to afford more. leni moved in that fall, originally sharing a room with simon but there was conflict and she switched to veña's room. Holding pattern while i make connections thru work and hang out with coworkers. By the new year we're rolling again, we're going to dj nights, etc. The manager at work changes when 50k of legal highs disappear. Martin, who i know from uvic, moved in may or june of 2011. We all ended up on 2cb or some research chem near-analog, i was supposed to have mdma for us but the batch sold as, was later confirmed to be 2csomething via the dealers gf postfacto. Immediately martin got us househunting and within a few weeks we saw a bunch of places and then moved from 2441 finch west to 114 finch east i guess starting in august because we had a big summer moving in party. Leni and veña were on speed and i told them not to jook up with this undergrad they knew but they did anyway. The kid and their friends hung around all summer wondering when we'd actully be fun. The kid figured out martin was the fun one and got mad at veña for liking their ex better. The kid is lux. Lux starts talking to martin about metal instead of veña. Halloween '11 is a 0 degree night out of nowhere and we're at a bridge show martin has a reading at, after going to a party at my store managers place with lux, which sucks so bad lux bails for the night. Someone does a callout of a stylistic choice in martins work and things sort of derail. Martin wants us to play defense, which turns things into a popularity contest, and martin would win going strictly by defender numbers, 4 v 1 ("your network is your networth") except because the girl and her friend who are complaining about martins story have more metal attached to their clothes martin is ashamed of our bad optics. This foreshadows much to come. I lose my job by being more and more of an insane mess and go on employment insurance. Yule 2011 I went back to bc with my fiance garrett who was living in boston working on his phd in psychology. I spent that easter doing k and acid with lux. In march 2012 i had what garrett said was a psychotic break.
Martin moved out may of 2012. I went to panama to teach the primatology class at a field school for 2 sessions from june to august. I got assaulted by a coworker, martin was the only person i told from home who took the position that i was being unreasonable. I got my septum done in bocas del toro, it was a body-ownership move as much as a memento of the place; Ive never stopped wearing a ring in my nose since then, ive even gauged up a bit. I got garrett a ticket to panama, he moved into the house with us after we got back from panama together, he still had to write and defend his thesis. 2012 we had a big vegan house party for yuletime. A few days before that was the big mayan calendar failpocalypse, i spent it writing on 2ce. Somewhere in there i got into a facebook spat with martin over veña, and got blocked. New year 2013 i got a job i'd written a preholiday rush cover for, at a headshop really close to the house, at yonge and steeles. Worked there 5 months, ran into another coworker issue. General workplace friction with the whole vibe of working for GoT fan ancaps in the legal high/weed paraphernalia business. 2nd verse same as the first. I started spending more time with lux because they were the most sympathetically in tune with my rage about the panama situation and my sorrow about the state of the world, and i ended up going with them and nat to meet suzy for the first time that spring after end of session at u of t when she was moving out of the student res that a few years later got closed for being uninhabitably damaged. Suzy gave me a hundred or so caps of name brand dexedrine as a parting gift. Blast off.
Right at the time things were melting down at work again martin told the others about moving back to the city. It triggered a midtier manic episode but i was also on long speed jags at that time, it all coalesced. I left martin a letter in the paper tray of the copier they wanted to pick up. A month or so later they came to the house, probably while i was at the fort. Id started hooking up with lux after doing speed at a backyard show there and they were insanely demanding after that. (I met nix spring 2013, at one of the fort shows that happened during that time.) When i got back everyone said martin had spent the whole time trying to get them to shit talk me and itd been pretty awkward. Leni said she saw martin find my letter and disgustedly throw it away. Emma came over and we all unloaded about how martin was being so bizarre after moving out. But then simon decided to move out. I asked them to give me my first stiknpoke before leaving and they gave me a division symbol on my wrist. Lux was squeezing someone out of the fort at that time, the house founder in fact, and needed someone they could stand, on short notice, to take over a large share of the rent, so they used emotional leverage and got me to bail on veña and leni. I was almost out of money and my big plan was to go on welfare for the first time after moving to the fort.
I left in july to go hitchhiking with lux, who wanted to chase their remaining roommates to a grindcore festival in bc and basically make sure people werent just sitting around complaining about the coup that had actually scared off the house founder and her bestie, so the rent situation was tenuous and being held down by the mom of this guy ryan who lived there and had spent 3 or 6 months in prison for being a g20 rioter, he got beaten every day by guards and left with crippling depression. He was dating someone from another collective house who was in bc waiting for fastcore with nat already because they'd trainhopped and made it the whole way thru ontario in 2 days. I got my first smartphone so i could document the trip and i started a new facebook, maybe i was hoping my sudden metamorphosis into someone with a punk name would register to martin and theyd add my new account and we'd talk. We go to mtl to visit nix and bug at death church; bug had moved out of the fort before luxs coup. We doubled back quickly and then headed north. I got my 2nd stiknpoke from lux outside wawa (infamous hitching black hole), a bong. Lux and i got lucky with a 2 day ride across the praries in a dodge charger after a week in north ontario. We met cassidy and her gf at the time in edmonton, & after a few days there we got over to vancouver where we met up with ryan who said he was there to try to find shrew because theyd had a fight. He said some bad consent stuff happened, after we'd been hanging out for a day (lux loved him) and lux and i nervous laughed & called shrew who said to lose ryan and get up to squamish. We caught up with nat and shrew, eventually linked up with nat and shrews lost travel crew....and an old roommate of luxs named natalie who had gone from plur to acab in the same space of time as lux had. (All very coincidental im sure.) Remember natalie. In squamish i gave myself a mans ruin stiknpoke while we hung out at the skatepark, beautiful day. After fastcore we bummed around vancouver a couple days before lux got their guardian angel cj to buy them a bus ticket because they were cranky from bin-diving giving them food poisoning and all their internet friends we'd met turning out to be normie libs (no one wanted to lay pipe). I spend my last cash on a ticket for myself. Greyhound still runs cross country in 2013. Garrett and i move in to the fort right as nat and lux hitch to mtl together to visit nix. Shrew was still living at george street, i think doug was trying to get them to stay there at the time but all the guys there were saying ryan was a good guy and we were all totally willing to kick ryan out whether shrew moved in or not. I dont know where he was at this time, but based on the stimulator screening we went to with him back in van, he hadnt even noticed being leftcoast famous for getting arrested until that outing, and there were a lot more warm welcomes to make a tour of before trying to talk to shrew again. He was all set up at a well known collective house by the pne grounds.
So garrett and i were actually alone at the fort with shrews miniscule cat beez for a couple weeks before anyone came back. I was on my way to shrew and ryans first face to face over at g street, on my bike, and got arrested because a cop said i spit on him. He said some got on his shoe. I got cuffed and ticketed but they let me go. I missed the thing with ryan and no one at g street found getting arrested remarkable. I went home to the fort and garrett found it so remarkable that he dumped me. I spent the next three months crying at sammy yatim demos and police hearings and watching tv in bed or having last chance sex. During this time lux and nat were trying to find more renters and this runaway kid who'd been having trouble at another house moved in, along with a street artist the others knew from around. As soon as garrett was gone at the start of December 2013, nat and i took a bus across the border and started hitching to IDA in Tennessee so they could tell us how to make an effective collective house. We learned that everyone needs their own house and its normal for people to go years within a community not talking to eachother. We got back and the street artist and shrew were at it with eachother. I got a tattoo from her anyway, in the living room. On her birthday we all go to a soup kitchen, martin is there with a bunch of shrews old friends. We're weird and avoidant of one another, i decide to let martin say hi if they want to, they dont, more to it but whatever. Skip to, we tell birthday gal we need to find someone who is actually paying rent. She sets the house on fire. We put it out. Happy 2014.
Then came the business of kicking lux out for being a manipulative weirdo who turned out to be mad at natalie because natalie was like "the sex we had was not consensual, youre a rapist" and lux was just like "what a bitch can you believe this bitch" about it, and then also "technically i also raped my ex who veña always liked better" about it, too. So that was a mess. That winter and early spring are a blur, nat and shrew and i go to some parties. Doug moves in. Various other people move in and out. Random people are in and out all the time. I live in a closet, which i consider heaven. I take a bike repair class. Nat and i go to a party at emmas and i meet luke, its still cold old. I ask luke out but he seems uninvested and morbidly curious from the get go. Im morbidly curious myself once i realize that bug called this guy out over something and i recall that while lux and i were in edmonton lux defaced a bunch of his bands show flyers. I get a really cool bike via nat and start joyriding all over the city, im hoping kismet will kick in and I'll run into martin. Nat and shrew hear from shrews friends that martin lives on the eastside with them. Nat and shrew go to one of martins readings and i say be nice dont troll like you did at the soupkitchen in the winter. They troll worse, tell me all about it when they get home. It sounds like martin won them over by being mildmannered afterward but theyre not forthcoming about that part.
I think that kind of catches things up to where we were before...
I spent summer of 2014 living at the fort and hooking up with luke and a guy who lived at george street named chris. That year on my birthday i sprained both wrists doing a stupid bike stunt. That was the same day i applied to be a courier. Shrew and i got into a conflict over the runaway kid's whole deal and i decided to move out as soon as shrew said they were going to. They stayed, i left. I bused back to bc to regroup with the gang. First i met up with simon, who was hanging out with martins bestie a lot and thru an awkward series of events i ended up crashing at that persons place with them and their bf felix, even tho martins bestie was clearly terrified of me and couldnt understand why simon had brought me in the first place. Then i went to stay with veña and leni, who were living together at veña's moms place. We all did m during a bloodmoon watch and i accidentally outed some information leni had been withholding. Garrett and i kept meeting up and hooking up too, and he got annoyed that i wasnt making room for him in the veña/leni/me situation and left things on bad terms but later apologized. I kept trying to get them all to move back and get another place but the only one who was all in was leni, after the big reveal she felt like relocating would be more fun than staying and facing the music.
Over halloween we hitched from van to winnipeg to save money and bused the rest of the way. They broke up after she got to toronto with me. We stayed at emmas moms place for a month (nov 2014) while i started the courier job it turned out i'd had for weeks, and leni apartment hunted. Doing a good deed is remembered by the spirit of the city, and we found a cheap basement in the trinity-bellwoods area I'd flyered for the first sammy yatim response demo.
I kept working the courier job and one day leni and i ran into luke. He started crashing at our apartment because it was so close to the rehearsal factory. I started writing a summary of the lefty witch agenda as a thesis project for suzy because i had been relying on her counsel more and more since leaving the fort and i wanted to do something that might have some kind of tangible impact and ime she's a very talented witch, one of the most talented i know if not the most, so in her hands a document like that could go anywhere. Lord knows if she ever read it all. I remember she started it and was like you didnt cite so and so and i was like as far as i knew that was original, and its like ok well, she's seen it before. Collaged in with all the same other stuff, too, most likely. I think she thought my format choices were cute, anyway.
I stopped going to the courier job so i could work on my speedifesto full time. I spent new years 2015 on acid at a party on the eastside with a girl i was dating and leni and the girl she was dating. The night ended badly. I ruined things with the girl so many different times but having a self-obsessive bad trip while she wanted to have mindblowingly romantic sex instead, was a big one of the ruiny moments. She's happy now with someone who isnt stupid.

“If you aren’t running through the airport, you aren’t living!”
At the airport in Guatemala, we had to wait in line to show our physical vaccination card after already filling out an affidavit online. We thought we had given ourselves enough time but it turns out this COVID check station wasn’t something that we were anticipating and the line was long. We patiently waited but as the minutes went by we started to get a little more anxious and our boarding time was creeping upon us (and we still had to get through security). Well, the very kind gentleman was feeling the same pressure we were. He was heading to Peru with his son and we we all started talking. He said, “if you aren’t running through the airport, you aren’t living” then we all had a good chuckle and started running! We really enjoyed his quote we decided to live by it and almost too much so on our next flight.
We scouted out the airport the day before we had to fly to Bocas del Toro. It’s about 10-15 minutes away and a small airport. Since we were only flying domestic we figured it should be pretty easy to get to and through so we gave ourselves 30 minutes to get there and an hour to chill before departure. Turns out the universe was against us.
We ordered our first Uber an hour and a half before our flight. Two Ubers later we were starting to get a little anxious, everyone was cancelling on us and we weren’t sure why. I told Pearce we didn’t have time to wait for another Uber and about 10 taxi’s have passed us. (Travel tip: don’t take the taxi’s if you can Uber. We have been told they can be untrustworthy with their pay; initially the ride costs 4$ then you get to your destination and it’s worth $10 and it’s all by word of mouth. Also they can take you anywhere they want but with Uber you can track your money and your route. Always uber if you can!) We waved down an uber as quick as possible and hopped in. He already had a passenger in the front seat who was heading deeper into Casco Viejo. What we didn’t know was that there would be bumper to bumper traffic in Casco Viejo due to protests. The area is fairly small so all the streets were backed up. After 10 minutes wasted in the wrong direction sitting through traffic while we were now pushing the time our hearts started to beat faster. The other guy out and we were on our way! No, we were’t… we were sitting in more traffic!! Thankfully our taxi driver was awesome and he knew his way around the old city. He took every back road and route possible and we needed them all! After finally getting our of Casco Viejo we thought we’d be able to get to on the main highway and cruise to the airport BUT another protest was blocking us! (Insert curse word here!) We had to go very far out of the way and we were boarding in 10 minutes, our hopes of making the flight were dwindling! As soon as we get a glimpse of hope of making it, another obstacle popped up. Of all things to be in the road next, it was a high school prom. Cars were decked out with balloons and car writing, kids were hanging out of the windows, they were going to have a parade in the street we needed to go down. I mean, really!!! At this point, it had become comical. Our flight had begun boarding and I was at a loss. I had begun thinking about canceling our hotel, booking a new hotel, and trying to hop on another flight (there is only one flight a day to Bocas). My mind began to wander but our taxi driver stayed positive and persistent. His job was to get us there and he was on it, even if we had to die doing it, which is how I felt with his erratic driving! Woof! Left turn, right turn, speeding past people, and bam we were at the airport. Remember it was only 10-15 minutes away in the first place. Our plane started boarding at 12:30 and it was now 12:42 but we were at the airport. Pearce paid the taxi driver more than he probably should have but so be it and we ran! “If you aren’t running through the airport, you aren’t living!” WELL, we were living!! NO ONE was in the airport when we arrived so I sprinted to the Air Panama counter. I showed the lady at the front desk my passport and she looked at her co-worker and then accepted it. HOLY Crudbuckets!! We were going to make it!!! They took our bags and she told us to hurry!!! We sprinted to the security, no one was there! I almost blew right past the “security lady”. She gave us a once over and waved us through. My god, now to find our gate. As I mentioned before, it’s a small airport so there is only one gate haha after security we walked right in the back of line because people were boarding! I have no idea how it happened but we made it.

Here is a view of the Panama Canal from the air!
Tumblr media
The flight was only one hour so we could take a few deep breathes and listen to some calming tunes to mellow out. I was so grateful to be on our flight and leaving Panama City, my only hope is that our luggage made it. I didn’t have a doubt, there was only one plane. How could our luggage not have made it?! Pearce felt otherwise giving me a bit of anxiety but who cares we had our valuables with us and we could get our luggage the next day if it was forgotten. We arrived on time at 2pm and headed into the terminal to get our luggage. It was there! We were finally in Bocas del Toro and we could breathe and to top it off, while we waited to collect our luggage there was a local gentleman welcoming us to paradise and serenading us with Bob Marley “Don’t Worry Be Happy”. He got everyone in the terminal singing and the song could not have been timely. I swear both our shoulders got lighter and we could actually breathe! Onto our next adventure of Bocas Del Toro!

HAPPY FREAKING EARTH DAY PEOPLE!!! Remember that Earth day is EVERY day, if you’re someone who enjoys oxygen, drinkable water, eating, and things like swimming in the ocean!🐠 Always strive to learn more, know more, and do more for the environment. For example: since last year when this photo was taken, Ive learned that this starfish, while never lifted out of the water, probably would’ve been happier remaining on the ocean floor! Now I know, and I’ll be sure to do better next time. If you’re wondering what some of the BIGGEST things you can do for the planet are, rest assured that two of the most important actions you can take are very simple!! Those things are: change your diet, and VOTE. Cut back on consuming things that destroy the worlds oceans and rainforests (I’m looking at you, animal agriculture, soy, and palm), and VOTE for people who are going to make positive, sustainable changes in legislation! We only have one planet, and it’s going to survive, whether we survive with it or not. It’s a matter of OUR lives. We did not inherit this earth from our ancestors, but are borrowing it from our children. The first best time to act accordingly was years ago. The second best time is now✊🏼 (at Bocas del Toro, Panama) https://www.instagram.com/jordantheexplorer/p/Bwj5M3vFfD_/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=1onglkpt8gvzt

Bocas del Toro
This is going to be a very long Blogpost, because I spent a month on the beautiful Islands of Bocas del toro and I have a lot to tell you about :D
Isla Colon
It’s the main Island and although it’s one of the bigger ones, the city (bocas town - the capital of the whole Archipel) is very tiny. It won’t take you more than 10 minutes to walk from one end to the other, what might seem a bit boring, but there's always something new to discover :) !
Where to stay
Normally I don't give anti-recommendations for hostels, but although everyone I asked recommended me to stay at Selina in Bocas, it was my worst hostel experience ever. If you're like me, and more into cozy small hostels, where you easily feel at home, and not into party party, I'll recommend you not to book at Selina, especially not friday and saturday! You don't need to stay there to hang out at their dock, or join the parties at night. But I love to sleep. So these two nights were horrible for me :)!
Tumblr media
Skully‘s House
I would have loved to stay at this hostel, but unfortunately it was fully booked when I was there. But I still spent a few hours at the place, and the dorms look amazing :)! The cheapest option for a night at Skully's are 15$! It is directly at Paunch Beach, it has a pool, and a very tasty restaurant, which unfortunately is not really cheap.
Fun Fact: The hostel in designed in Pirate theme and the owner is a bearded pirate with a real woodleg :D
Coconut hostel
It's the cheapest place I could find on the Island, and it's one of few places in Bocas where breakfast is included! Pancakes with fresh fruits! What else could you wish for? :D Although the bathrooms in the hostel are really not nice, I completely enjoyed my stay! The vibe is very family-like and they even have a rooftop full with hammocks for 5$/night if that's your thing :)! I meet an awesome israeli musician while I stayed there, who gave me a private concert the night before he left. Such an incredibly talented guy!
Pro Tipp: It doesn't matter where you stay, I really recommend you to use the loundry service at coconut hostel! They charge 3$ instead of for example 10$ at Selina!
Where to eat
Panaderia Alemana
For Germans and Austrians the hardest part while travelling is to find bread. And I mean real bread. I spent every free minute in this Bakery on Isla Colón, having breakfast, just a snack or my favorite pastries.
Pro Tipp: try the maracuya cheesecake!
Restaurante chitré
It's one of few cheap places in Bocas del Toro, and normally you just see locals eating there :)! For 4,75$ you get a huge plate of grilled chicken, rice and salad - and it's not just cheap, it's super tasty! It's also a good place to practice your spanish, while chatting with panamanians.
LaItaliana
Normally a bit pricey, LaItaliana offers a happy hour in the afternoon, where they offer a pizza plus drink for 6$! One of the best Pizzas I ever had! I recommend you to take a large pizza, the small ones are just for hobbits :D
Pollo Rosti
This little restaurant offers nothing else than grilled chicken and fries. But I can guarantee, that you won't find better chicken for this price on the whole Island! For 7$ you get half of a roasted a chicken, including fries and dips. The only thing which is bothering me, is that they serve their food on single-use plastic tableware. #savetheplanet
What to do
Rent an ATV
Flying Pirates belongs to the owner of Skully's House and is the company you want to go with, while racing through the jungle. It's definitely not a cheap activity, but by far the best I have experienced on this trip! Nearly the whole island is covered with jungle, but only Flying Pirates have access to it, because they pay rent to the owner of the land. To make sure, that no ATV drivers of other companies can enter this property, the pirate placed many traps along the trail! So make sure you listen carefully to his instructions, because you don't want to drown your ATV or die...
So go for it and enjoy this amazing adventure, but be prepared: you will get back very very dirty and maybe a bit injured. #dontflip #yesIdid
Tumblr media
Cacao Ceremony
In Bocas del Toro I experienced my very first cacao ceremony! I'm not religious or spiritual, so things like that always seemed a bit strange for me but honestly I enjoyed it a lot! It's a gathering of different people who mostly sit in a circle, drink cacao, and combine that with for example yoga, sound healing or dancing. Since centuries cacao is used for physical and mental healing, it actually increases your bloodflow and produces endorphins. This topic is so big, it deserves a whole blog post itself, so if you're interested and want to know more about it, I share this article with you: http://www.balispiritfestival.com/blog/cacao-ceremonies-what-why-and-how
Bioluminescence Tour
This tour is definitely one big highlight of my whole trip, because it is so different than any other boattrip I experienced. You have to be a bit lucky to get the experience, because you're only able to see bioluminescence in the water when it's really dark, so tours just take place around new moon. I did my tour exactly on new moon, and it was a breathtaking experience for me. It was quite scary to jump into the sea, in the middle of the night, and I definitely overcame some fears on that trip! Because it was completely dark, our guide was whistling all the time, to make sure we find him in the water and don't get lost. If you want to know some more about the tour and about bioluminescence in general I recommend you to read following article: https://hellotravelpanama.com/packages/bioluminescence-tour/
Surf!
I'm not a very comfortable surfer, so I never tried it in Bocas. Butt everyone else does, because it's a great surfer destination! The waves are really high and often very dangerous, so it's not the best place to start with surfing, but you'll definitely love it when you're a bit more advanced. But don't surf at Bluff Beach! In the last years, a lot of people died surfing there, and nearly everyone who tries breaks their boards.
Zapatilla Tour
Although Bocas del Toro is a very expensive place, you can book daytours for not more than 25$/person! A must do is a tour to Cayo Zapatilla, which should include a stop at dolphin bay, sloth island, Hollywood (starfish island) and the coral snorkel spot. This tour is definitely a highlight for me so far! I've seen a lot of dolphins, but unfortunately you can't go for a swim with them, because the bay is full of jellyfish!
Tumblr media
Stand Up Paddling!
From Isla Colon you can easily paddle to Isla Carenero, which is just one minute away if you take the boat. If you are not very familiar with surfing or stand up paddling, I would NOT recommend you to rent your gear at Selina, because they also have no Idea. So I ended up with a big surfboard, instead of an SUP board, sitting on it and trying not to fall. Well, at least the board was pink :D!
Tumblr media
Plastic Bottle Village
I have no idea how I could have missed this place, but it's so amazing, that I definitely need to share it with you!
Years ago, a Canadian called Robert moved to the Island and started to collect water bottles, instead of throwing them away, and in the last years he built a whole village out of these bottles. He designed a huge castle, and even built little houses you can rent and live in, for a very good price! With his program he wants to draw attention to the excessive use of plastic, and with the money he earns he supports the local community and tries to educate children about this important topic. If you want to know more about this project, visit the website! http://www.plasticbottlevillage-theline.com/
Where to shop
Black Cat
This shop is not just my favorite for shopping clothes, it also sells very extraordinary souvenirs. Everything they sell is unique and nearly all their designs are self made. Unfortunately it's not backpacker budget friendly, but I love every piece I bought there! They also sell underwear with very special prints in four different sizes and three different shapes, which are 15$ per piece, but super comfortable and unique!
Tutty n Fish
Best place to buy fish and seafood to cook it at home! Unfortunately I never had the chance to buy the tuna because it was always sold out, but I heard it's amazing, and it's super cheap!
Farmacia el Javillo
It seems a bit weird to recommend a farmacy, but unfortunately I spent a lot of time in pharmacies and also been to the hospital in Bocas del Toro. Apparently it's very easy to open a farmacy in Central America, for which reason the quality and the prices of the products differ a lot. With this farmacies I never had any problems, they gave me good advices and they also speak a little english :)!
Isla Bastimentos
Because Bocas Town was a bit to much party for me, and I definitely wanted to stay at a beautiful beach, I moved to Isla Bastimentos after three days, and very spontaneously I started to work in an incredible hostel directly at Red Frog Beach!
Tumblr media
Where to stay
Palmar Beach Lodge
Where should I start! I stayed one month volunteering at this place, had the most amazing people around me, spent Christmas and New Years Eve here and couldn't wish for a better time! This place is a very nice mixture of a hotel and hostel. They offer very luxurious bungalows and tents, but also cheap mixed 8-bed cabins which are the most amazing dorms I have ever seen! The only thing that doesn't really fit into the low budget plan of a backpacker, is that there is no guest kitchen at the hostel. So you have no choice but eating at the restaurant all day long, which is super super tasty and backpacker budget friendly :)!
What to do
Red frog beach
If you stay at Palmar this beach is directly in front of your door. It's the most famous beach in the whole Archipel, but honestly not the most perfect one for swimming, because mostly the current is really strong, and there's always a red flag. To spot a red frog you have to be very lucky, because they are super tiny!
Tumblr media
Polo Beach
It's a 40 minute walk through the jungle and on the beach to get from Red Frog Beach to Polo Beach, and it's 100% worth it! There are no hotels - just Polo lives there. He's an old guy who built himself a little cabin and sells coconuts, drinks, and sometimes even fresh grilled fish.
Tumblr media
Wizard Beach
To get to this beach it's quite a long walk through the jungle! Unfortunately I never arrived there, because the time I tried there were so many ants that I turned around. Make sure you get back before it gets dark, because you really don't walk this path at night! The last years there were a lot of robberies along this trail, so make sure you don't go alone and don't take valuable things with you :)
Up in the Hill
If you walk 20 minutes uphill from Old Bank, the main town of Bastimentos, you get to this cacao farm, run by a Scottish family. Unfortunately I never booked a tour there, but I hiked all the way up to bring back their lost dog, but apparently it wasn't their dog... (it was the dog of another cacao farm)
Pro Tipp: Try their selfmade brownies :)!
Marina
It's the place where all the private sailing boats and catamarans dock, and normally you're not really supposed to go there because it's a private property, so your only allowed there if you have a boat. But you definitely have the most beautiful sunset view in Bastinentos :)!
Tumblr media
Isla Carenero
If you’re a fan of party and you want to join filthy Friday (it’s like a pub crawl every Friday, but they take you to different islands for this group drinking experience) you can just stay at Agua Lodge, and get Filthy Friday for „free“, because every group will stop there. I didn’t stay in this hostel, because I’m not really into party, but they have a trampoline where you can jump directly into the water.
Isla Solarte
Bambuda Lodge
This hostel is usually fully booked. Even in low season. So be fast, if you want to stay in this amazing hostel! I didn’t sleep there, but spent a full day at the island and had dinner at the hostel. It doesn’t have a guest kitchen, so there is no other choice than eating in the Bambuda restaurant, or going to the main island. The restaurant is pricey (one meal is around 12-15$) but i strongly recommend you to eat there at least once! You can pick out of four different meals, which change every day, and the food is delicious!
If you are not a guest, and just go there for Dinner or the Pool, expect to pay a fee of 5$.
Transportation
If you're not a friend of boat rides, you will have a hard time in Bocas. Around three times a week I took a shuttle from Bastimentos to Isla Colon, just because I really enjoy cruising between the islands. Fortunately all this boat trips were free for me, because it was a private shuttle from the hostel I worked at, otherwise you'll pay a lot of money on boat rides while you stay there. Don't hesitate to negotiate, all the locals will try to rip you off.
Tipps and Tricks
Just buy necessary stuff!
As I already mentioned, Bocas is super expensive. So bring everything you might need, and try to avoid buying medicines, technical devices and other things you can probably buy on the mainland or town, because the smaller islands are even more expensive!
Use the free shuttles
If somebody asks, I never told you about this! But there are many hostels who provide Free Shuttles between the islands, and they never really check if you're a guest or not. Make use of it and save some money :)
Bring a shopping bag
The whole Archipel of Bocas del Toro is completely plastic bag and straw free! Isn't that amazing? So if you plan on buying some groceries, bring a shopping bag!
Don't bring expensive clothes
Living in the jungle kills your clothes. It's close to 100% humidity, mold grows easily and you will never really have the feeling of fresh smelling clothes. Sad but true, make sure that you store your clothing always in the fresh air to prevent the worst.
Never buy tours online
It doesn't matter where you go, but NEVER ever book tours online, especially not on TripAdvisor. All the Tours you'll find on the internet are two or three times more expensive! There are so many tour companies, especially in Bocas del Toro, you really don't need to worry about saving a spot. Book spontaneously, that's where you get the best discounts!
Mosquitos!
Make sure to use enough repellent and don't spend to much time on the beach and the docks after it's getting dark. If you don't want to use too much chemical products, you can prevent Mosquito and sandfly bites with coconut oil.
Learn to say NO
Especially in Bocas Town, everyone tries to sell you tours, boat trips, food and mostly they are really good in what they do. When I started this trip I always had the feeling I need to be nice, and thought it's rude to just walk away. I learned very fast, that this isn't how it works, and that you clearly have to tell them that you're not interested. "¡No, gracias!" , will be your new favorite phrase.
Tumblr media
I completely enjoyed my stay in Bocas del Toro, and definitely would love to come back some day :D

Bocas del Toro Bocas Del Toro is home to a natural laboratory for evolutionary study and climate change, Bocas del Toro things to do Panama's first Mission Blue Hope Spot, a program that focuses on the rehabilitation and preservation of the marine ecosystem. We explored Starfish Beach, Red Frog Beach, and Polo Beach. My favorite beach so far. Crossing the border by land is pretty easy.

What is your characters name? Does the character have a nickname? Cheyenne Salem Ricardo De Luca. He goes by Chey
What’s your characters ethnic background? He is one hundred percent Panamanian.
Who are your characters friends and family? Who does she/he surround him/herself with? Who are the people your character is closest to? Who does he/she wish he/she were closest to? His biological family were all wiped out in an earth shattering hurricane. Back in Panama.  He was raised by friends of his father’s in Texas and they are the only family he knows now. He wish he was close to any of his biological family members.
Where was your character born? Where has she/helived since then? Where does she/he call home? He was born in  Bocas Town, Bocas Del Toro, Panama. He was illegally bought to the states before the fatal hurricane came for his family. He got settled in at Texas as a toddler and spent the rest of his life in Texas.
When has your character been in love? Had a broken heart? He believes he’s in love now. He’s a hopeless romantic and believe love is the answer to everything bad. He also believes it can heal all pain and solve all problems.  He hasn’t had a broken heart yet. He has been let down and that has broken his heart before though.
What is it that they most dislike? He hates being judged for not being as well dressed. Or when people criticize his dirty clothing. Only because he or his family can afford any new ones. He hates to hear someone brag about shoes because the two pair he owns both has holes in the soles.
How are they with friends? Cheyenne is a really good friend. He loves his friend whenever he makes a true one. He’s one hundred percent selfless and puts his friends on a pedestal.
How are they with family? With the people who raise him, he’s very respectful. He says yes ma’am and no ma’am. He follows their directions. He still asks for permission to do certain things, and still shows them the utmost respect when he’s away in his dorm and they’re home.
How do they behave in a relationship? Chey worships his lover. He likes to make special gifts with his hands and give them to them as presents. He likes to spend time with them, and listen to their day.  Cheyenne likes to cater to his lover and  always spend time with them. He loves to love. So even when things get rocky in his relationship he’s not the type to leave or walk away.
How do they respond to a threat? Chey is a crier. If someone threatens him, he’ll believe them easily. And if he feels his life is in danger. He’ll try to cry his way out of it or at least alert the authorities as quick as possible.
Fastest way to annoy this person? Constant negativity.
Quickest way to get on their good side? You don’t have to do anything but be yourself. Everyone is on his good side until they give him a reason to feel otherwise.
Are you an only child? How many siblings do you have? Are they close or are they estranged? Chey is the only child now. His siblings were also swept away in the hurricane. However, they were much older. Like mid thirties on down. He never got to know them. He has a few photos with them.
Favorite music genre? White noise
Things they like to do? Talk on the phone. Cuddle. Watch Tv. Clean up.  Make out. Sing songs. Cook.
Things they are afraid of? To go a whole lifetime without experiencing real love.
How does your character like to celebrate his or her birthday? His guardians make him a tray of macaroni and cheese.  He has never received a gift or anything because they couldn’t afford it. But he’s always very appreciative and happy for the Macaroni and cheese.
What is their perception of their family? Loving, Cherishing and Nurturing. Just like him.
Did they grow up rich or poor? He grew up really poor. He’s still dirt poor.
Did they grow up nurtured or neglected? Nurtured.
What is their view about them self? He doesn’t really know himself yet. He knows that one day he’s going to do great things as long as he keeps God first and believes in love.
What living person do they most despise? Chey could never bring himself to actually despise someone. He doesn’t despise anything in this world.

La Loma | Organic Cacao Farm
Isla Bastimentos, Bocas Del Toro, Panama
This is the one thing we splurged on, on our trip. La Loma is a family run bed and breakfast and organic cacao or chocolate farm located in the jungle island of Bastimentos in Bocas Del Toro. This is one of the most beautiful and unique places I have ever stayed.
We took a prearranged (by La Loma) water taxi to get from Bambuda Lodge to La Loma, as boats are the only way to get around. When we arrived we pulled into thick mangroves up to a little dock. We were told to leave our large bags as the employees would take them to our room for us. We were greeted by a man named Henry who is actually one of the owners! He lead us down a path to the common area, we were surrounded by banana trees, cacao trees and pineapple plants!  At the common area we were served lemon grass tea and we met the resident animals, 3 dogs and a cat named Minchi. Also at this area a few of the employees called us over and were pointing up in the trees. I was looking up can didn’t see anything but green. After a minute I saw something move. Lone and behold there were two big green parrots! They blended in perfectly with the leaves!
After we were taken up to our cabin. I now know why they had their employees take our bags up for us. The steep path would have been hard with my big backpack on. We chose cabin number 2 because of the beautiful view that we saw that it had while looking at pictures online. However, the pictures did not do it justice. The whole cabin was completely open and made completely out of beautiful wood. The view? Well as you can see from above, it was stunning! We had a perfect sunset view. The cabin came equipped with mosquito netting around the beds, a beautiful bathroom with a hot shower and two hammocks. In the mornings they would bring us up coffee and muffins before breakfast. The only down side here was I got eaten alive by chitras or sand fleas. They are so small that they can get through the mosquito netting. Luckily enough they provided insect repelling incense. Our first night we stayed up there resting in the hammocks and enjoyed the sunset until it was time for dinner.
More coming from La Loma!

Understanding Ocean-View Condos
Ocean View Waterfront Condos Around The World
First Published Date: Sep 6, 2010
One of the most popular types of purchases, in real estate, is ocean-view condos. These condos are so popular because they provide stunning views that will make you feel like you are on vacation even though you live on the shores of an ocean. However, there are many things to know with buying condos. First, we will look at the most expensive places to buy an ocean view condo in probably the most popular area to buy an ocean view condo, Central America.
1.    The most expensive area to own property in Central America is the coastline of Coco, Hermosa and Papagayo in Costa Rica. The average price of a condo in this area is roughly $340 per square foot, but you get plenty for that price including tennis clubs, golf courses, spas and more. It is a stunning place and you may just see some celebrities if you are owning an ocean view condo in this area.
2.    In Flamingo, Costa Rica, you will find condos that are $305 per square foot, but the beaches and amazing sport fishing make it the perfect place to buy an ocean view condo.
3.    Ambergris Cave, located in Belize, has nice beaches, wonderful scuba opportunities and the price comes in at $290 per square foot. One benefit of buying an ocean view condo here is that the country is English speaking so you do not have to learn a new language if you move there.
4.    Tamarindo in Costa Rica is a hotspot for people who love to surf thanks to the amazing waves. It is also a good place to hike, and to check out wildlife like turtles that nest in the area. The cost for an ocean view condo is $285 per square foot, and for that price you get diving, golfing, night clubs and more.
5.    Jaco, also located in Costa Rica, has many great hotels that you can stay in, but it also has very nice ocean view condos that you can buy if you want to stay longer. Plenty of nice restaurants, night clubs, bars and beautiful beaches make the $280 per square foot that you pay completely worth it.
6.    In Panama, you will find Bocas Del Toro, which gives ocean view condos for the price of $275 per square foot. There are many islands in this tourist destination and plenty of good surfing opportunities and diving hot spots for someone who just loves the ocean.
7.    Also located in Panama is Panama City, which is a financial center for the country and a place that has plenty of infrastructure, beaches and places to go if you live there. It also has a retirement program that will help you live there without paying too much. You can have a condo here for the low price of $265 per square foot.
Now, there are some things to consider when you are buying an ocean view condo, and by this we mean that you should keep in mind both the advantages and disadvantages associated with ocean view condos.
First of all, the disadvantages to ocean view condos.
1.    Ocean view condos are expensive, sometimes very expensive depending where you are buying the property. You can end up paying thousands of dollars per month to buy one of these condos, and there are often other taxes you have to pay, including high property taxes. As a result, you may not be able to afford to buy such a condo, but you could probably rent one. Many people choose to retire and then buy an ocean view condo because they can use their savings to pay for the mortgage on the condo, rather than trying to work and pay for their condo while they are living in it.
2.    Ocean view condos are in danger from storms. The ocean can create some very powerful storms and that can put you at risk if you have an ocean view condo. Large thunderstorms are common and hurricanes\typhoons\cyclones are also something that you have to worry about because they can do just so much damage to an ocean view condo. In addition, there is the danger of a tidal wave, which are rare but when they do come they do immense damage. All you have to do is look at the damage done by the Indian Ocean Tsunami in 2004.
3.    In developing countries, there is the danger of crime at your ocean view condo. Many people in these countries are very poor and they know there is money at these condos. However, this is a very small concern because often the areas with ocean view condos have their own security forces to protect those who live there.
Now, let’s go to the advantages of living in an ocean view condo.
1.    First of all, there are amazing views in an ocean view condo and you will wake up in the morning to the sound of the ocean waves hitting the beach. This is an amazing thing to wake up to and something that makes living and paying for an ocean view condo completely worth it. You will be happy you moved into one when you also get to watch the sun go down, or rise, over the ocean.
2.    In many countries, there are plenty of tourist attractions and activities that can be found in the area around your ocean view condo, which means you, will have plenty to do when you live in a condo that looks at the ocean.
3.    Ocean view condos can be very affordable depending where you buy. These condos can be cheap in places like Southeast Asia and in parts of Central America, where you get constant warm weather, friendly people and beautiful beaches.
4.    Speaking of beaches, with an ocean view condo you are always only a few feet away from the ocean and the beach. Any morning you want, you can leave your home, walk 20 feet and check out the various beaches in your area.
When you are buying an ocean view condo, there are some things to consider before you go before hand to buy the condo.
1.    First, you need to look at how much you can afford exactly. You do not want to be paying more than you can afford because you will quickly lose your condo. On that same note, you should look at what kind of incentives there are to buying an ocean view condo in the country you are looking at.
2.    If you are moving to another country, you must determine what you need to do in order to buy property within a country. You often cannot just buy property, you must meet certain criteria. This can include being married to a citizen of the country, or having to start a Limited Liability Company within the country.
3.    Read about the country you are thinking of moving to. Some questions to consider are:
1.    Is it a politically stable country?
2.    What is the crime rate like in the country?
3.    What incentives does the country have for foreign buyers?
4.    What is the economy of the country like?
5.    How far away is the country?
6.    What things do you need to be aware of including diseases in the country?
4.    If you cannot go to the country to buy the condo, have someone who can go in your place, or someone in the country you know, look at the place. This is important because you do not want to be scammed into a place that is far too much for the state it is in.
5.    On that same note, you should do your research on the real estate agency you are going through to make sure you do not buy a home that does not exist and end up losing tens of thousands of dollars.
Ocean view condos can be a great investment and a great place to live when you are in your twilight years. When you can wake up and see the sun rising on the ocean, you know you have made the right choice and you will be happy you paid the money to live where you are. Just make sure you are aware of the costs you will be paying, where you will be living, things you need to consider and what you need to do in order to buy property within the country of your choice.
Ocean view condos are great places to live and good places to buy, so begin your search today for the home of your dreams that sits upon the ocean.

See How Easily You Live the Lifestyle That You Desire
Tumblr media
Working that 1 percent a day makes enormous shifts in our conditioning, in the experience that we're having, and our perspectives. This sort of lifestyle equates to living an abundant life, and bringing the things you want to your life.
Lifestyle
Once we've gone through this material stage we realize that living the lifestyle is what it is all about. Living the life you wish to call home and doing the things you would like to do when you need to do them is supreme freedom. For me personally, I come in the corporate history of working 60 hours a week, going into an office all the time. Lots of you know that my life today includes training in Martial Arts, getting my pilot license, traveling to South America where I have a place, working in my business, speaking engagements, etc.. . I'd like everyone to begin experiencing the exact same success and lifestyle they desire. You can, but it is a matter of getting clear about what's the lifestyle that you really want.
Creating Ideas
We must start looking at this part of living the life and know to love every second. It is not about the gathering of items. It is about creating ideas. It is about creating multiple revenue streams to live life and have these terrific moments. There's a excellent word that I love and it is residual. Residual means earnings coming in whether you work or not. Building systems and business that could make that residual income is actually an amazing thing. Everyone can do that.
Love What You Do
I've worked to produce the freedom and the lifestyle. What's amazing about this entire situation, and I am using myself, for instance because it is easier for me to expand on those concepts, is that I have done it today with less resistance and less work than when I was working hard. Part of this reason is I love what I do is that I have discovered that not resisting and allowing the world to work for you works.
Define Your Lifestyle
If you love what you do and you'll be able to work hard there is no limitation to what you can accomplish. Perhaps you only need to pay off your home, your cars, go to work, move up the corporate ladder, which is completely cool because it is your experience. Perhaps you are someone who would like to do something different and burst out there and be creative. Both are there for you. It's there. It's only a matter of placing the puzzle pieces together, opening your mind and figuring out how you will do it and letting things come. You must define what that lifestyle will be.
When I first began in the corporate business world I understood it wasn't working for me. It wasn't till I let my hair grow and began to wear jeans and t-shirts and began working out all of the time that I began to feel like that was me. This is what I always imagined: that I'd live close to the shore, I would be physically active, that would do the things I wish to do like getting my pilot's license and have fun. I feel you could do it too!
Freedom
If you would like the lifestyle you'll be able to achieve it. I worked extremely hard against several people who are like machines. I look back at the hard work I did and I barely remember it but I will always bear in mind that award. We must allow things to come so that we may construct the lifestyle that we want to live. We must have some identification of everything that is. For me personally, I think liberty is paramount to living the lifestyle. Being able to do what you want if you want to is crucial. To have the ability to eliminate the financial bonds is critical and sometimes that does not happen overnight.
Build Your Belief
Enjoy what you do and the money will come. I didn't even know how we were going to eat this week let alone how am I going to do what I love and help people. Now is when I had the belief. I was listening to Tony Robbins, Zig Ziegler, Dale Carnegie and Many More. I had been filling my mind with good things. These gaps in my personal evolution are what actually slowed me down from living that life that is magnificent. It was the openings where I lost my view.
That is why it's essential to advance and get clear and proceed. All of a sudden once you begin to do everything you love it starts to get easier.
Deciding Your Retirement Lifestyle - Do You Go Local Or Try to Emulate Your Previous Lifestyle?
When we make that fateful decision to retire abroad and become a part of the expatriate community, we put in motion so many factors that we may become bewildered even considering them.
Possibly the most crucial factor relates to our new lifestyle overseas. Are we looking to emulate our past lifestyle in our new destination country? Can we do it even if we need to? Can we go native? Or, do we plan for a happy medium between the two extremes? Our other significant choices will be associated with this factor. Our selection of lifestyle will in many ways limit the other choices, such as our selection of country in which to retire.
For Americans and many Canadians that the Caribbean islands, Central America, and South America are top options over the years because of the proximity to the United States and Canada. Within certain of these nations, whole English Speaking communities have developed with all the conveniences of home. A individual visiting these communities may find it tough to believe they're not in a community in the USA or Canada. I won't attempt to name a high number of them, but there are several scattered throughout Mexico, Costa Rica, and Panama.
If you would like to have the fishing and beaches near English speaking fellow expatriates, then it is simple to find these in Bocas del Toro in Panama and in certain areas in Costa Rica. If you would like to stay in a tropical paradise with amazing weather year round you also have numerous options. El Valle de Anton fits the bill nicely in Panama. Mexico is also known for these environments.
If you enjoy a temperate climate that hovers around 75 degrees Fahrenheit year round and that has been rated the second best climate in the world from the National Geographic Society, you could entertain the concept of living at mile high Lake Chapala near Guadalajara, Mexico. In Lake Chapala, there are over 50 English-speaking organizations in which you may participate. You can find all of the conveniences of home such as English films, high speed internet, and a great number of international restaurants.
If you're more like me, you may wish to be living largely among the indigenous people, yet have easy access to the metropolitan regions. I prefer not to live among a population that's predominately English speaking. But then again, I speak Spanish fluently.
Basically, your choice to live more like the natives or attempt to emulate your past lifestyle back home depends on your character and what your previous lifestyle was like. In case you were a city dweller, you may not want to reside in a rural area in your new country. If you lived in the country, you may want to continue to prevent city life. On the other hand, your character could be such that you want to reside in the specific opposite environment. All of us have a little bit of rebellion in us. Check out both options, make your choice, and begin your golden years of retirement.

Stranger things 2
Me llega.
It's close to midnight/ Something evil's lurkin' in the dark/ Under the moonlight You see a sight that almost stops your heart ...Thriller night  Pero parece Domingo para la juventud.
Girasol, tres a la derecha, cuatro a la izquierda, arco iris, 450.
Cualquiera.
No estaba solo él.
No importa si hace bien o mal.
