#book of circus spoilers

Man, I knew Black Butler was weird and a little messed up from when I watched it in like middle to early high school (kinda glad I didn’t understand the nun scene back then because I understand what Bassy was doing now and yikes. Thankfully it’s non a canon scene) but I just finished rewatching Book of Circus (which is canon) last night and while I remembered certain things (like the big prosthetic reveal and the true reason why Ciel hired the trio) I did not remember just how fucked up it really was.

Like… that entire bit with the kids and the manor just kinda had me staring at the screen in horror, and then there was everyone being (unsurprisingly) killed. Joker had the saddest death of the entire circus troupe, me thinks. That or the most pathetic. Honestly all of their deaths were sad. I actually really liked Beast.

And then the reveal that everything they were fighting to protect in the first place had stopped existing long ago, so their deaths were essentially pointless???

They were traumatized and abused and blackmailed, and they all wanted out of the situation they were in but were afraid that their “siblings” would be punished and/or would lose the support of what’s-his-face, their “father”, so they kidnapped more children and killed any witnesses and Joker had to watch as many of those children they kidnapped died because their “father” wanted entertainment and he felt too powerless to stop it and could only stand there and flinch and look away as children dragged the dead children’s bodies away, and continue on with the “show”.

And everyone just. Died. Not ever learning they were lied to, that their “siblings” were already dead, with Joker being the only one to learn that their prosthetics were made of human bone from the deceased children, and he literally died crying, horrified and disgusted and helpless, realizing what a fucked up situation this all was and that he had walked right into it, and that his found family had been sent to their deaths.

Like what the fuuuuuckkkkkkkkkk.

And then they had a little girl with braids at the end that was selling fruit look like the girl you saw get kidnapped at the beginning (a little girl with braids selling flowers) who you then watched get stabbed to death, which is maybe why Ciel tells Sebastian to buy a fruit from her.

What the fuck. What is this show.

I’m still gonna watch it but like what the fuck.

Also, I see you camera. I see what you doing with Ciel and Daddy Phantomhive and the camera angles. I know the spoilers. I see you. Tricky, tricky, but you can’t fool me! it continues to baffle me how many readers advocate for the show entirely cutting the andoran succession arc, aka elayne's ONE big Main Character storyline that she leads herself (vs. being a sidekick in nynaeve's storylines). what would you do if i started advocating for cutting mat forming the band of the red hand? you wouldn't be so happy about that, would you? well, that's the equivalent of what you're suggesting for elayne, just gutting her entire arc and reducing her to a secondary character.

some readers really need to learn that "i don't like this storyline" doesn't automatically equal "this storyline is just unimportant filler that can and should be cut from the show" (and that "i like this storyline" doesn't automatically equal "this storyline is crucial to the series as a whole and the show will be unwatchable if it's cut")

Is there a spy in the reapers who works for the undertaker?

I think there might be! (Let me cook plz)

Today I was thinking about Dolls death and the events at the end of book of circus and realised, how tf did the undertaker get dolls body and cinematic records?! Because William and Ronald were at the mansion collecting the records of all the dead children and the count, and I honestly don’t think William would let some random guy with a death sythe show up and take the records.

Unless William is the spy.

Now let’s think about this. William is the only repeating Reaper that we don’t know much about other than the stuff from the OVA and as well as that he was at the circus during the times of the kidnappings. And I know we’ve had reapers show up to the places of major events such as Ronald and Grell with book of Atlantis, but that’s most because they wouldn’t of been able to get to the cinematic records if not. But if so why was William at the circus? No major deaths happened there, all deaths happened away from the circus. Unless he was there to spy on o!ciel and Sebastian.

Second off William’s appearance at the end of book of Atlantis. I know he was there to get Ronald and Grell but I think it’s kinda weird how he just showed up out of the blue and didn’t bother to help with all the bizarre dolls. We know that Grell and Ronald were completely out of it when William showed up, so what if he helped undertaker and r!ciel back to land?

Third of all, how did the undertaker get Dollys body when he was taking care of r!ciel? Knowing how loyal the undertaker is I don’t think he would have left r!ciel alone in that moment and I don’t think he could of come back for the body and the records because, people would of shown up to fight the fire and because of the grim reapers that were there. So maybe William brought him Dolly body as he (William) thought she could be a good candidate for a bizarre doll due to her history with o!ciel and Sebastian.

And my final point for why William might be a spy is how he always shows up at the end of all major event involving the bizarre dolls and blood transfusion. He always shows up when things start to go wrong, as show is Bards arc. I theories that the events in the hospital where Bards is happened first out of the 3 mini arcs due to the amount of time show to have past in each arc. Hence why he hasn’t shown up in the other mini arcs.

I would also like to say why I don’t think Ronald Knox is the traitor.

Firstly he was only called as back up in book of circus and had no way of knowing about what was actually going on inside the mansion. Secondly in book of Atlantis Ronald is shocked to find out about undertakers true identity as a reaper as well as the state he was left in after the fight with undertaker. And finally the events in Bards mini arc, Ronald is shown to be actively searching for the Bizzare Doll and if he was a spy why would he do that? Bear in mind William only showed up after the Layla was found.

WHY DIDN'T I WATCH THE BOOK OF CIRCUS WHEN IT CAME OUT NOW I'M JUST SCREAMING AT MY SCREEN AS I SEE HOW THEY SHOW PHANTOMHIVES INTERACT WITH THE MAIN VILLAIN OF THIS ARK BARON I-WONT-EVER-CARE-TO-REMEMBER-BECAUSE-JUSTFhim IN THE FLASHBACK THERE'S TWO OF THEM THERE'S ACTUALLY TWO OF THEM IN THAT SCENE IT'S SUPER OBVIOUS IF YOU KNOW AND WOULD EASILY PASS AS SOME WEIRD ANIMATION IF YOU DONT AND LIKE THE PLURALS IN FLASHBACK NARRATION I THOUGHT "well, this can just be them playing a lil trick on the audience" RIGHT UP TO THIS SCENE THAT'S WHAT I CALL STRATEGIC FRAMING BY USING ENVIRONMENT - YOU CAN'T SEE THE TWINS IN THE SAME FRAME BUT YOU CAN TOTALLY PAY ATTENTION TO WHERE THEY STAND IN DIFFERENT FRAMES TO REALIZE - THAT'S TWO OF THEM AND THESE DELIBERATE DIALOGUE CUTS AND THIS WAS LIKE EVEN BEFORE THE WITCH ARK, WHEN I WENT "well, that theory, probable not a theory after all, seems very possible"
