"Am I offending you? Sorry I'm not obsessed with you like everyone else. I know that must be confusing for you."
Tumblr media
"Do you know what?" Henry says. "I think you are."
Tumblr media
Alex's mouth drops open, while the corner of Henry's turns smug and almost a little mean.
Tumblr media
"Only a thought," Henry says, tone polite. "Have you ever noticed I have never once approached you and have been exhaustively civil every time we've spoken? Yet here you are, seeking me out again." He takes a sip of his champagne. "Simply an observation."
Tumblr media
"What? I'm not - " Alex stammers. "You're the - "
Tumblr media
"Have a lovely evening, Alex," Henry says tersely, and turns to walk off.
Tumblr media
It drives Alex nuts that Henry thinks he gets to have the last word, and without thinking, he reaches out and pulls Henry's shoulder back.

Seriously, why do film makers/producer/whoever in charge agree that making a book series into a movie is a good idea? You skip a lot of character development, abandon lots of details and end up angry your audience

Reminder To Self: That Man Becomes President Snow
I dreaded penning down my thoughts for this movie, in fact, I am still dreading it as I typed these words. As I sat in the theatre and watched this film, I knew writing a movie talk was going to be tough. It's been days and I am still trying to get over it, what is 'it'? The nostalgia? The high? The ambiguity that's between this movie and the older movies? I really don't know. What I do know was that, I loved this film so much, I needed more days to calm down and take a breath, except I did not expect to need more than just days.
That being said, The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes truly exceeded my expectations. True to the words of "book to movie adaptation", this was another great one. Seriously, all book to movie adaptations should learn from The Hunger Games franchise, they understood what that accounted to.
Unfortunately, as much as I love this film, it was not perfect. Those who have read the book might agree to my take in terms of what I have to say next. Like the movie, the book focuses this plot from Coriolanus's POV. However, unlike the book, the movie failed to portray Coriolanus's inner thoughts. This is not to say Tom Blyth's acting was not good enough because it was brilliant. The few times the script called for attention to Coriolanus's inner turmoil, Tom managed to capture it for the camera. Sadly, what the movie failed in was showing the audience just how much inner turmoil Coriolanus has. It was constant, in the book but it was mostly absent in the movie.
I understand inner thoughts tend to be more easily portrayed in books but writing for the movie could have seriously done more. Because the ones who did not read the book might not understand just how much Coriolanus fought to put up a front that he was not financially struggling nor the constant hunger he actually suffers from. Also, non-book readers would not know how fake he was with Sejanus, am I right? One thing I enjoyed learning about Coriolanus Snow was the fact that due to everything he had gone through, he, despite the effort, worked too hard just to put up a fake front. He was so fake but the movie did not show how fake my dude was.
Again, I am aware that was not an easy thing to do, but it does not make what I said any less true.

Dragon Rider or Firedrake the silver dragon
I watched a clip of it with my sister and it was not good. it was the “climax” with Nettlebrand the golden hunter dragon and yeah
- the look of the characters and animation: all of them looked souless (Ben’s eyes for one thing) and just uncanny valley
- weird thing about Firedrake thinking he can only breathe fire with Ben riding him
- Ben being there under false pretences
- the ipad? thing that Nettlebrand uses for a dating app (its a thing)
- the voice acting was so bad. I would have expected better from Thomas Brodie Sangster
- Firedrake breathing fire and losing his eye colour and the fire being white?
It was just a small clip and it was a mess

They're Remaking The NeverEnding Story...And I'm Okay With It
BW Media Spotlight is going to surprise you, but here me out: They're Remaking The NeverEnding Story...And I'm Okay With It
The NeverEnding Story is my all-time favorite movie. Visually it’s beautiful not only for its time but the only effect I feel doesn’t hold up is Bastian and Falcor in the regular world. It’s a story that speaks to why I love storytelling, and Bastian is pretty much me as a kid, evading bullies and problems in the pages of a book, or a comic, a TV show or movie, and any other type of storytelling.…

"Even though we love them, we have to admit there are some fantasy books that would be impossible to adapt into movies or TV shows. Not all magic and world-breaking fantasy elements are film-friendly.
Although book-to-film adaptations of fantasy novels have been getting better over time, there are still a few things even the best visual effects (VFX) and Computer-generated imagery (CGI) cannot pull off. I am a big fan of well-done practical effects, even if they are mechanic at times. For me, the way actors tend to engage with practical effects reads as more sincere. So, when it comes to this list of fantasy books, I mostly included books I think would require too much green screen or CGI to be worth it. Sometimes, magic is best left on the page and off the screen."

Movie Review: Red, White & Royal Blue
Tumblr media
Source: Google Images
Based on the New York Times bestseller, Red, White & Royal Blue centers around Alex, the president’s son, and Britain’s Prince Henry whose long-running feud threatens to drive a wedge in U.S./British relations. When the rivals are forced into a staged truce, their icy relationship begins to thaw and the friction between them sparks something deeper than they ever expected.

Two Hours of This Movie is Not Enough
Remember back when the announcement for the casting was first released? I do, vividly. I was ready to watch how Taylor Zakhar Perez and Nicholas Galitzine play their roles. Then came the uproar that is hate for the casting which I'll be honest here, I never understood and I still don't understand why. Anyhow, fast forward to August 11, 2023 and I am happy my boys are getting more love than when they were first announced for Alex and Prince Henry roles.
So, yes, I am one of those people who read the book before the movie. I am also one of those who enjoyed it. I would not consider myself a fan but I loved what I read so again, yes. It was pure agony the past month; from after the trailer dropped to before the movie was released. I am also one of those people who have been greatly affected by the hype this movie built up for the past month over the Internet. It was impossible for me not to go into this movie without expectations and unfortunately, my expectations grew because of how much the Internet was hyping it up. I tried to lower or stop it from growing, but I could not watch Red, White & Royal Blue from a neutral standpoint. As I was aware of my expectations, I also reminded myself to not be surprised if I was disappointed.
Am I disappointed?
Well, I am a little disappointed but not because this film was bad or the adaptation was butchered. It just felt that the movie adaptation left out so much more from the book and if we were given more time, perhaps more from the book could have been included. Do you know what's worse? I don't even remember much of the book and yet I could tell a lot was left out. Making this movie longer was a missed opportunity considering so much clips were released during that agonising one month; felt like we were only watching an hour-ish worth of new content.
On the bright side, in spite of its lacking content, the acting, the script and the soundtrack were A+. Personally, I felt Prince Henry's unhappiness and awkwardness more in Galitzine's acting over the words in the book. I fully appreciated how perfectly portrayed Alex and Prince Henry were, the actors exceeded my expectations for them and my expectations for them (specifically) were high.
Which is why I really need to point out, who on earth decided that Perez and Galitzine had no chemistry with each other? Seriously, I am still so baffled at that initial hate.
Anyhow, I have had that one gay romance film as my comfort movie for years now. I am just happy I have another to chronically rewatch.
