Okay so I’m rewatching season 1 and I have to bring something up, so obviously the line “only love makes you that crazy sweetheart” is super important to us as bylers because of the crazy together scene. But, I think we need to talk more about the line right after that

“And that damn stupid”

This line is clearly directed at Jonathan beating up Steve, she’s calling it stupid and saying love makes that happen. Now let’s think back to just 2 episodes before.

Mikes response to Troy making fun of Will.

And then to add onto that, the scene where Troy and James track them down in the woods, in retaliation to when Mike shoved him, happens directly after the “and that damn stupid”

do you think fourteen has a breakdown one day about just how much time with donna he lost. it was that easy, the whole time, for the metacrisis issue to be resolved, and instead of him ever figuring that out, he lost years and years of a life he could have had with her. he stood on the outskirts of her wedding. he wasn’t there when she was pregnant with rose and wasn’t there when she had her. he wasn’t there for a thousand little moments where he could have made her laugh. every time she looked for him without remembering who she was looking for could have been a time he was standing next to her. and he’s never going to get that back. time machine at his fingertips and yet somehow the one thing he never has enough of is time.

Thinking about the symbolic weight of smoking in the TLT universe that comes to the fore in The Unwanted Guest -- the way it moves through from person to person: Pyrrha smoked, and Augustine wanted to impress her in all her stone cold fox MILF James Bond glory (and tbf who wouldn't) so he started too. and even though as far as he knows she's been gone for a myriad and is never coming back, he keeps the habit. Ianthe sees something in the hollowed-out Faberge eggshell of Augustine that resonates with her, all that gilded eloquent emptiness and disdain through the ages, so she picked it up from him to try to emulate it. She picked it up so hard that Palamedes -- the exact spiritual antithesis of the 'smoking! on a space station! what a powermove' ennui Ianthe so admired -- spontaneously unnerded enough to even known how to, simply from a sort of contact contamination of the soul.

G1deon and Augustine sharing a jittery smoke after their near-Harrow experience during soup night, and it's the closest thing to any real sense of brotherhood that remains between them. Pyrrha going ten thousand years dying both literally and for a smoke (and then Camilla sold her fucking cigarettes (for a third of what they were worth, probably Pyrrha's own good, and also more importantly grocery money). what an entirely haunted time to be alive etc.). Augustine and Mercy trading a cigarette back and forth in the middle of their collusion over the love and murder of god.

An act of small and measured self-destruction in the name of something a little bit like connection when you're stuck somewhere in yourself where love itself dares not or cannot tread (ritualized, transmissible)..........

sorry I've been slacking on fundie content lately, I recently learned that a Welsh prince came to the Americas in the 1100s with a few hundred people and that his descendants might be the real life explanation for a few midwest/southern/appalachian folk legends (well it was native history that white people wrote off as folk legends) and that the Smithsonian might've been complicit in hiding this information so. that's been taking up a lot of my time

one thing that’s been on my mind a lot recently is the fact that ianthe is reusing the old third house lyctor’s rooms… like did she just choose to do that because the old rooms were shiny and full of sexy portraits, etc., or was the mithraeum just a one-set-of-living-quarters-per-house-no-guest-bedrooms-sorry situation? if the latter, literally what was john going to do if the house heirs all ascended at canaan house like he wanted them to? the main reason this has been on my mind a lot recently is that i’ve been unable to shake a series of cursed thoughts about a universe in which things go according to god’s plan and silas and mercy are forced to become the world’s most dysfunctional pair of roommates, thus in turn forcing all the other newly-ascended house heirs to live with the fallout of this godawful situation constantly spilling all over the mithraeum common areas, which—even setting ASIDE the whole ‘experiencing paralyzing guilt and grief over their dead cavaliers’ thing that they’d also be dealing with!—is possibly an even worse outcome for them than the one from the canon timeline where they all just fucking died violently lmao

#imagining silas and mercy interacting is literally making me lose my mind. they would fucking HATE each other #of course this universe would also entail augustine-abigail and g1deon-judith having to share too but i feel like those pairings would #go over slightly better. abigail and augustine are of the fifth they’d be passive aggressive to each other but they’d act civil in public #and g1deon would probably just ignore judith tbh because as annoying as she can be she doesn’t know about the one (1) topic that actually #gets under his skin so i don’t think she’d get anywhere trying to get a rise out of him #but SILAS AND MERCY on the other hand #they would both constantly be on their knees before john begging him to consign the other to hell #the locked tomb #silas octakiseron #mercymorn the first #honestly i think what would happen is that augustine and palamedes would make it through about 3 weeks of constant shrieking/sobbing/#performative praying/attempts on the part of silas to exorcise mercymorn or mercymorn to murder silas before augustine would SNAP and pull #a dios apate minor singlehandedly to keep john busy while palamedes went and murdered silas for real

It’s just…so painful to watch Armand readily submit in order to obtain the love he so desperately craves. And while it’s most assuredly a manipulative tactic, it’s still one borne out of fear and desperation. He cannot lose this person he’s come to love and so will become whatever they want, do whatever they want just so they’ll stay with him. But it won’t be enough. No matter how much he acquiesces or seeks to control (himself, others, the environment), he won’t be able to make Louis stay with him in the perfect life, perfect self he built in the hopes of finally being loved. It will all crumble with Armand left alone in the rubble of what he created, the author of his own abandonment.

#this unfortunately hits way too close to home for me #let’s not even get into Claudia’s anger at never being enough #iwtv spoilers #interview with the vampire #armand #this is just me speaking from personal experience…but there is definite manipulation at play here from Armand #and I don’t necessarily mean that pejoratively- when you’re desperate for people to like/love you you’ll become whatever they want #or whatever you think they’d want and you give it to them so they’ll want to keep you around #I’ve done it so often with the people in my life- and make no mistake it’s also a survival tactic #you give someone what they want they won’t hurt you #and when that’s how you survive for years and years it becomes the default method of interacting with others #even with normal people who genuinely mean you no harm you revert to that people pleasing mode #as a means of control both external and internal #this is what i see armand doing- his way of surviving that he’s never truly broken out of #armand ceding coven control to Louis and curating the Dubai penthouse for Louis are part of the same pattern of behavior #and even tho it’s ultimately harmful and will only end badly for armand and Louis’ relationship #idk if armand knows how to not exist that way with someone he loves/desires #all of this also ties into louis and daniel #because of course Armand will lose it over Louis finding connection and interest with someone else aside from him #someone HUMAN no less #and I can see Armand taking out his anger on Daniel as a way of expressing his own frustration at still not being enough for Louis #breaking daniel’s mind in a desperate attempt to understand why this human could reach Louis in ways he couldn’t #not saying any of this to excuse Armand and his behavior obviously (I’m very upset and worried over the trial looming on the horizon)#but I do understand this impulse and how you’ll throw ANYONE under the bus in order to preserve your place with loved ones #it’s all horrifying but unfortunately I empathize #like even if Louis is right to walk out on him when he learns/remembers the truth of what happened to Claudia #I’ll probably still find myself saddened by Armand’s fate because I’ve absolutely been there myself #it’s a tragedy of his own making- his fear and desperation birthing manipulative and controlling behaviors #that ultimately result in your own abandonment #god this fucking show

Reading the dialogue between them actually makes me feel sick it's literally a pattern! This keeps happening from Lucy's 'you have to live on' to Sigma's 'let go, or you'll die too' (not this panel but 3 panels before) to Akutagawa's 'you damn fool, hurry up and go'!!!
