So I am uniquely qualified to help explain some of the bandom confusion from your other asks. So, Bandom is a term with 2 separate, incompatible definitions used by people semi-equally (more people use one definition but the people who use the other definition use it more often). If you have ever looked at the fanlore articles for bandom, there are 3 and all of them mention the issue.
The definitions are effectively definition 1 being that bandom means MCR, FOB, and the other decaydence and fuelled by ramen bands that people write/wrote a ton of crossover fic for. Think of all of the warped tour fics and other fics where people from the other bands can and would just randomly be a part of the fic/make cameos/etc. This definition has the fanlore page of Bandom (Decaydance+, My Chemical Romance). This group is the smaller group that uses the term more often. This definition has also been somewhat looser as the years go on and these bands have less direct interactions with each other, more interactions with other bands, and some have been on hiatus/broken up for over a decade.
The second definition is quite literally that Bandom means Band Fandom and therefore any band (generally only western bands, this usually doesn't include things like kpop or jrock and the like) could be a bandom band so long as there are people doing fandom stuff about the band. This definition is used by more people as it's easy for someone to see the term Bandom and go "yep, Band Fandom" and adopt it into their vocabulary, but it's not a frequently used term by the group that uses it this way usually. The fanlore page for this definition is Bandom (music source text). The combination of this definition with the aforementioned loosening of the other Bandom definition has definitely led to a lot more bands being in the "are these bandom bands?" confusion.
The third fanlore article is literally just a page about the debate over these definitions that took place on livejournal in like 2008.
When AO3 had a bandom fandom tag still (it was dismantled a few years ago), the official policy was that any band that people said was bandom was bandom and that wranglers couldn't police it beyond adding new bands to the fandom and had to add bands if people said they were bandom bands. I remember learning about this all the first time via wrangler internal-comments on that fandom tag when I took over wrangling it for a few years 😅 (for context on why I said I was uniquely qualified to explain). This policy led to a lot of really random bands and musicians being under the Bandom tag in ways that confused a lot of people (especially since very few people ever read the fanlore articles on these things).
So, Against Me, and Laura Jean Grace, and anyone else that people are going "are these people part of Bandom?" (that aren't related in some way to MCR/Decaydence/FBR bands) both are and are not Bandom depending on which definition you are subscribing to/how strictly you interpret the first definition if thats the definition you use.
ty for the valuable insight and taking the time to type this <3

it is me, enabler anon, back from being a couch potato gamer and into the questions. ( i have missed so many days )
whiiiile you’re still under the writing process of a little annihilation, could you perhaps share your hopeful end goals that you currently have for the fic? of course they may change buuut, since it’s just being fleshed out so far; i’m curious to if you can perhaps prepare us for what’s to come :3 even if it’s just. the most bluntest one word description. :D
*scribbles GAMER! onto a sticky note and slaps it onto the Enabler Anon Identification Conspiracy Board*
The weird thing for Annihilation is that my end goal is both highly specific and kinda vague. The entire thing is just giving my Jay-DIYS-a-guitar-from-the-wreck-of-the-Keep headcanon/daydream thing an origin story. The entire motive and plot is contained in that elevator pitch; the trickiest bit is the details, really, but I can give you some loosely connected notes.
None of the stuff in my outline is a spoiler in the same way That One Reveal, You Know The One from IICT was; if you've read the Dark Island Trilogy and picked up on the end of chapter 1 of this, you know Jay and Nya are about to embark on something between a rage room visit and a Home Depot run. Jay gets a cool acoustic build out of it at the end, and Nya gets to smash some shit. (There will be more OSSAS nods. Despite being a Jay-centric work, Nya's going to get her time, and I have more to work with on her end, anyway. This is the closest I've ever gotten to proper Skybound Jay stuff, and I still haven't nailed him down.
The only bit that's even remotely spoilery is the loose plan I have for the very last line, which I will obviously not share. That's not a spoiler in a plot way, either. It's more like something I want to do to completely shift the mood for future reads of the finished story... but I'm giving too much away already.
My "Do Not Do" list is the same as always for when I write Skybound: no overblown sopping wet sobbing Jay flashbackery or Pleasant Therapy Dog Nya. I would prefer to keep my keyboard vomit-free. Yes, they're revisiting the Keep - but fully by choice, because as you know, once an idea that cool and thematically perfect worms its way in, there's no stopping it. Yes, Jay does have a few memories while there; so does Nya. That's reasonable and expected. Nobody is allowed to break down crying or start murmuring comfortingly to the other person. (In MCR terms, the vibe isn't the "The Ghost Of You" music video, as fantastic as it is - this is the "Famous Last Words" video, or maybe even "Na Na Na".) Like I mentioned in one of my last asks, this is largely based on how I process my own painful memories; I revisit them, refuse to sink to that level again, and craft them into poetry and art using the shards I notice in a new light. Does it hurt? Sure. But it hurts so good, as the kids say. You want sappy recovery, you can get that a bajillion other places in the fandom. Come to me for spite and resistance.
Anyway, despite being on a bit of a writing hiatus, I'm never really on a thinking hiatus. I'm waiting for GLOOM DIVISION to drop and kickstart my creative energy, but in the meantime, I'm always up for asks. Thanks for dropping in!

·         Mayday Parade surprised fans with a 7” EP as a continuation of their latest album, Sunnyland, which dropped last year. The EP includes an acoustic version of “It’s Hard to Be Religious When Certain People Are Never Incinerated by Bolts of Lightning” and a B-side titled “Turn My Back.”
·         Australian singer Alex Lahey recorded a cover of My Chemical Romance’s “Welcome to the Black Parade” for the radio station Triple J’s recurring Like a Version segment. The cover later received praise from the band’s frontman, Gerard Way, himself.
·         Bayside announced a new album titled Interrobang, as well as a video for the album’s title track, last Friday. The full-length arrives after the band dropped the song “Prayers” following the release of an acoustic version of “Mona Lisa” back in January.
·         Jimmy Eat World revealed the title of their next album, Surviving, as well as its first single “All the Way (Stay)”. Additionally, they announced a handful of tour dates in the U.S. and UK.
TOUR ANNOUNCEMENTS:
·         Tonight Alive are scheduled to play their first show since 2018 at Australia’s Unify Gathering Festival on Saturday, January 11th, 2020. The band previously announced a string of U.S. tour dates for early 2019 before cancelling the tour and taking a hiatus from touring.

·         The Hella Mega Tour received major flack over the price and perks of its VIP packages. Some fans are not happy with the high price of a VIP ticket that doesn’t include a meet and greet with the bands.
·         Blink-182 frontman Mark Hoppus addressed the band’s cancelled gigs in Columbus, Ohio, and El Paso, Texas, on Instagram. The band was forced to cancel their El Paso date after a nearby mass shooting the day prior, where Hoppus revealed they were locked down in their hotel.
·         Simple Plan and Bowling for Soup announced a joint UK tour scheduled for the start of 2020. The Together Again! You’re Welcome Tour will feature Not Ur Girlfrenz as an opening act, and will mark the first time the bands have played together in the UK again in 16 years.
·         In light of the Cars frontman Ric Ocasek’s passing earlier last week, the Killers covered “My Best Friend’s Girl” at a show in Bethlehem, Pennsylvania. Prior to this, the band’s singer Brandon Flowers posted a heartfelt tribute to the late musician on Twitter.
·         Blink-182 played an intimate Spotify Encores gig in New York last Thursday, where they performed their most-streamed songs. The show took place at punk venue Saint Vitus in Brooklyn.
·         Green Day took a stab at current U.S. president Donald Trump during their set at the iHeartRadio Music Festival. They changed the lyrics to their hit song “American Idiot,” swapping “I’m not a part of a redneck agenda” for “I’m not a part of a MAGA agenda.”
·         Waterparks announced the supporting acts for the U.S. leg of their Fandom Tour, as well as some extra UK and European tour dates. Openers for their American tour include rapper Yung Pinch and rock band Kitten.

·         For the rapper’s 37th birthday, Blink-182 gifted Lil Wayne a joint of marijuana onstage during their New York show last Friday. “I’ll take this now,” Wayne said right before he sparked it up with the help of Travis Barker and an off-stage hand.
OTHER NEWS:
·         Angels and Airwaves and former Blink-182 frontman, Tom DeLonge, filed for divorce from his wife Jennifer after 18 years of marriage. After meeting in high school and raising two children, the couple is reportedly separating due to “irreconcilable differences.”
·         Following this, DeLonge posted three videos through his organization, To the Stars Academy of Arts and Sciences, that potentially show UFOs. In response, the U.S. Navy confirmed the videos as “unidentified” phenomena in time for Storm Area 51 last Friday.
·         In response to fan rumors, DeLonge also made a statement about his time with Blink-182 and squashed rumors that there is any bad blood between him and his former bandmates. To backtrack, Mark Hoppus recently spoke about Blink-182 before Matt Skiba replaced him following his departure in 2015.
·         Former MCR frontman, Gerard Way, announced that he was already working on the fourth volume of his hit comic, The Umbrella Academy. The third volume, which was recently released in stores, is titled The Umbrella Academy Volume 3: Hotel Oblivion.

·         Good Dye Young, the hair dye brand of Paramore frontwoman, Hayley Williams, relaunched its long out-of-stock lightening kit. In addition to doubling its size, the company revamped the formula to be vegan and gluten-free.
·         Guitar manufacturer Fender announced a new nonprofit effort in collaboration with Panic! at the Disco’s Brendon Urie, Fall Out Boy’s Pete Wentz and more. The Fender Play Foundation moves forward with its mission to educate, equip and inspire young players.

last bandom rec post of 2017
Fic and podfic that I haven’t recced here before, for various Bandom pairings, mainly MCR and FOB. Happy ending unless otherwise specified. In chronological order of original posting date:
Wednesday-verse by arsenicjade. First story is PATD, second is MCR. Apparently this series was all the rage in early bandslash fandom; I'm slightly late to the party, but no less enthusiastic! The first story is hookerfic, but mostly about the relationships between the hookers, not about relationships between hookers and johns. And MCR run a free clinic because they want to save everybody, obviously. Podfic of the MCR story by knight_tracer. (2007; podfic 2012)
Podfic by inkjunket of Sing Ourselves to Sleep by Dira Sudis. Gerard and Patrick have a special moment during Warped Tour. The podfic was the first MCR podfic posted to the Audiofic Archive! (fic June 2007; podfic October 2007) How Life Can Be by sevenfists. Pete/Patrick tourfic. (August 2007)
The Way It Works by anew_leaf (bayleaf). Gerard swears off sex with men; Frank convinces him to change his mind. (August 2007)
Podfic by inkjunket of The Sky-High City by sevenfists. Post-band story written pre Danger Days. Frank is depressed and goes to stay with Gerard in California. The story is so jossed at this point that it's barely recognizable, but it's still cute. (fic August 2007; podfic March 2009)
An Inexplicable Occurrence of Angels by stele3. AU in which Frank is a fallen angel who turns up after MCR loses its record contract and Gerard is still living in his parents' basement. (December 2007)
By the Numbers by shoemaster. AU in which Gerard is a fine artist and Frank is his accountant. Very cute, and RsCreighton podficced it for me! (fic December 2007; podfic December 2016)  Sweet Caffeine (and Love of Liberace) by bayleaf. Brian makes them do it. Stagegay meta fic. (January 2008)
Nightswimming by Waxjism, the incredibly long and incredibly worth listening to podfic by greedy_dancer, who apparently spent 5 years working on this. I could listen to greedy_dancer's voice all day. The story is a small town AU with Gerard suffering from depression and Frank falling in love with him while dealing with changes at home. Happy ending! (fic February 2008; podfic completed May 2016)
Love: The Package Deal by jjtaylor. amnesia and polyamory and pining and feelings all over the place. Not sure why I delayed reading this so long, since I love everything else by jjtaylor. (BBB 2008) frank/gerard college au not!fic by mxtape (September 2008) Ghost Frank series by jjtaylor. So I checked back to see if I had neglected to read anything else by jjtaylor and Holy Shit I had. I must have passed over this before because Frank starts out as, well, a ghost, and I am not a fan of character death. I did cry, but it has a happy ending. Possibly a little too saccharine, but I needed an antidote. The haunted house and creepy supernatural mystery elements were genuinely frightening to me reading in bed after midnight in my dark apartment.... (December 2008-January 2013)
[a marriage of convenience] by jae_w. Jon Walker/Tom somebody. I don't know who Tom is, and it doesn't matter. AU! (January 2009)
Asimov, the Deleted Scenes, plus sequel, by stele3. Lindsey meets inventor!Gerard and all his little robot friends. (March 2009)
Only Going One Way by ataratah and jjtaylor. A delightful Due South crossover/fusion! Gerard is a mountie, Frank is a Chicago cop, Mikey is missing. (June 2010)
Podfic by klb of The Anatomy of a Fall by novembersmith. 13 hours long high school/ghost AU with lots of plot and a happy ending, but ghost AU means one of the characters is still deadish, so. I cried. (fic June 2010; podfic January 2013)
Heads Up, Hearts Down by inlovewithnight. Pete/Mikey soulbond high school AU (July 2010)
Podfic by argentumlupine of Can Never Wrong This Right by theopteryx. historical academic Indiana Jones-ish AU with temporary bonding and lots of pining. Frank is Gerard's TA. (fic July 2010, podfic January 2013)   Making Other Plans by skoosiepants. Mike Carden/Kevin Jonas AU (December 2010)
Away With The Boys In The Band by inlovewithnight. Very amazing and long history of the band with always-a-girl Mikey. I didn't know what the end game ship was going to be, although I really should have, but I read it for the girl!Mikey and mental health stuff so I didn't care. The Gerard & Mikey sibling relationship is also interesting. (June 2011)
podfic by fire_juggler of Pages In Your Passport by inlovewithnight. AU: Pete is a professional soccer player; Mikey is still in MCR. If anything, it ended too soon. (fic August 2011; podfic July 2012)
podfic by argentumlupine of Half of Something Else by fleurdeliser and tuesdaysgone. Frank/Gerard/Grant. AU where MCR didn't happen, Frank is Grant's assistant, and Gerard is a comic book artist. (fic August 2011; podfic September 2016)
The One Where Bob and Patrick Live Together by Bexless, anonymous Bob/Patrick podfic (fic 2011; podfic December 2017)
Hold Your Heart into This Darkness by tuesdaysgone, podfic trilogy by argentumlupine. Gerard/Korse, Frank/Gerard. Amazing Killjoys verse story with happy ending. I was nervous initially about the power dynamics of the Gerard/Korse pairing in the first part, but it worked so well I kinda shipped it, uh, which should not have been the takeaway from how that relationship played out. (fic 2011/2012; podfic 2014) Other People Were Too Sentimental by skoosiepants. Mike Carden/Kevin Jonas high school AU (February 2012)
Podfic by Rhea314 of Fog, Sheets and Thunder by Theopteryx. Post-apocalyptic postal service AU, with sound effects! Set underground in a nuclear winter, but it ends on a positive note. (fic March 2012; podfic August 2013)
Pete Wentz: Failiest Ally by girlpearl and melusina. Pete/Gabe, but mostly about Pete being in denial to a ridiculous degree. (April 2012)
Podfic by jenepod of We Used To Be Friends by ladyfoxxx. AU where Gerard never started MCR, Frank became a teacher, and Mikey joined The Used. Frank and Mikey were best friends in high school, but then Frank doesn't hear from Mikey for a long time, and it's even longer before he finds out why. I actually found the premise so upsetting (i.e. realistic) it was difficult to listen to, even though the podfic is well done and the story has a happy ending. (fic July 2012; podfic July 2013)
Septicemia by innocent_wolves. A little different from my usual recs, and darker, but it still has a happy ending. No Band AU. Frank is suicidal, and both Frank and Gerard have maladaptive super powers. (finished June 2013)
undeserving of your sympathy by akamine_chan, podfic by argentumlupine. Short superhero AU.  (August 2013)
The Heart You Need by flyby. How the Killjoys became the Killjoys....if the Killjoys were telepathic space pirates. Very long, and a bit slow in the beginning, but with a summary like that, obviously I had to read it. (August 2013)
and me here on the ground, podfic by Ande of the fic by ohnoktcsk. Frank/Gerard magic AU. (fic September 2013; podfic September 2016)
Two ways Pete and Gabe get married by lalejandra, podfic by reena_jenkins. notfic. (podfic October 2015)
Love Will Tear Us Apart by melusina. Pete and Patrick don't notice until FOB goes on hiatus that they're soulbonded. (September 2016)
All Shook Up by Jiksa. Pete/Patrick Las Vegas wedding chapel AU. (April 2017) Because Werewolves or Something: A Frank/Dewees Podbook Compilation by dapatty. "Fracta Modi" is my favorite, but they're all good. (October 2017) Epicuros by ??? for me for the Bandom Holidays gift exchange! Lindsey is an android artist on Mars! (December 2017) Twisting Fate anonymous Frank/Gerard soulmate podfic (December 2017)

FOB ASK ANSWERS
@alwaysfob, sorry this took me so long to do. I have shitty internet at home. here ya go.
1. When did you become a fan?
I always listened to them as a kid, but really I became a hardcore fan in my senior year of high school. ((I’m a sophomore second semester in college now))
3. whats your favorite album?
Probably either IOH or SRAR
5. whats your favorite era?
Oh geez that’s a hard one. probably early FOB, like 2001-hiatus, but I love them all the time.
7. pre hiatus fob or post hiatus?
((Insert El Dorado pic here)) Both. Both is good.
9. favorite ship? (peterick,joetrick etc)
I’m always a slut for Pertick. and Petkey, but like, that’s MCR too.
11. how many friends you have from the fandom? (from tumblr)
one. you.
13. if you had a chance to meet them, what would you tell them?
this is deeply personal, since I hope to actually meet them one day and tell them this. I would tell them how they saved me, how they kept me going when nothing else could. How they inspired me to be true to myself. About how being Trans is hard for me, but hearing about their struggles told me things would be okay. and mostly just tell them I love them, and that I hope they keep doing what makes them happy, because that’s what makes US happy.
15. whats your favorite music video?
Youngblood Chronicles, hands down.
17. whats your favorite lyric?
I have this tattooed on me so I guess this one. “The best way to make it through, with hearts and wrists intact, is to realize two out of three ain’t bad”
19. whats the most meaningful song to you? why?
This one’s a tie between several songs. Disloyal Order of Water Buffaloes, What a Catch Donnie, Save Rock and Roll and The Phoenix. These are only some of the songs that helped me cope and taught me everything will be okay.
21. the next fob album will be about _______
Mikey Way. What else?
if you could join anyone to the band who will it be?
Brendon Urie. He’s basically their child and the poor boy needs a band again. or Mikey. Just to throw Pete off.
