targeted boycotts are as we know the most efficient and this isn’t me calling for a boycott, but to keep people informed below the cut are lists of kpop artists with affiliations to labels mentioned on zionistsinmusic on twitter
UMG (under an american umbrella label it owns or has joint shares in highup ent [kor releases only], yg ent [bp kor releases only], the black label [somi and taeyang's kor releases only]; under capitol music group it owns or has joint shares in sm ent; under republic it owns or has joing shares in big hit [txt kor releases only], jype [twice, skz, and itzy's kor releases only], under universal music japan it has u-cube a "joint venture with" cube ent, virgin music > republic records > used as an imprint for txt jp releases; through third party distribution umg is affiliated with yuehua ent) - 4minute, apink, ateez, beast, bigbang, blackpink, boys republic (actually managed by umg), btob, bts, dean, everglow, snsd, infinite, iu, iz*one, kep1er, lim youngwoong, loona (japan), miss a (since 2012), monsta x, nct 127, p1harmony, psy (since 2012), rainbow, stray kids, shinee, somi, stayc, super junior, t-ara, the rose, triples, tri.be, twice, txt, wonder girls, xikers, and zerobaseone
note: a lot of these have (south korea) next to the name, i don’t know if that means they only have a deal for that country because other artists like stray kids and lim youngwoong don’t have that specification
REPUBLIC (owned by umg) - itzy, nayeon, nmixx, stray kids, txt, tri.be, twice, vcha
SONY (owns columbia, wakeone, dreamcatcher company; distributes modhaus, chrome ent, kq ent, starship, top media, wakeone, wm ent) - riize, ive, ateez, bts, brown eyed girls, wjsn, crayon pop, dreamcatcher, everglow, exid, monsta x's i.m (astrisked, can't find why), kep1er, lim youngwoong, stayc, tfn/t1419, the rose, triples, wings, xikers, zerobaseone

as always if any of this information is incorrect or outdated, please feel free to correct me in a reblog or an ask and i'll update the information in this post. i'll try to keep up with any new companies that are brought up on the twitter account mentioned at the beginning of this post. i'm not here to call for a boycott of every artist mentioned here because i don't feel i am in the position to do so, but i'm not discouraging you from choosing to do so. in fact i encourage you to listen to these artists unofficially at the very least.
i'm not sure the extent to which these companies get revenue from these artists, i don't know if it's just streams or if other things like merch sales and youtube views contribute but quite a few of these artists' companies are being boycotted currently or in the near future anyway, so i would suggest you not buy any merch or watch youtube videos officially from them. this post has more info on downloading music, youtube videos (with subtitles), and the boycotts i mentioned so i hope you all will check that out too. tris @bandzboy has also been posting about and sharing twitter posts about zionism in music, especially in the kpop industry so i suggest you check out her blog as well

Dove's Melody Project FAQ
• What is the Dove’s Melody Project?
Dove’s Melody Project is a blog where you can find information about ongoing music industry boycotts, news, protests etc. The goal is to make people aware of these boycotts, why they are being done and so they can stay informed on what to do and how they can participate in it
• Why are people trying to boycott music labels & kpop companies?
The big three are western music (Sony Music, UMG & Warner) as well as the big 4 (HYBE, SM, JYPE) and Starship Entertainment have zionists working under these companies, collaborated or have sponsors with zionist brands, had zionist producers working for them & have CEOs that support the genocide and actively fund it. Kakao Entertainment is also a company people are trying to actively boycott since they distribute half of the Kpop industry’s music and have ties with Israeli companies. If you want more information about the boycotts, you can check out Zionists In Music on both Twitter and Instagram, you can check this carrd for information about the HYBE boycott
• How are these boycotts supposed to help?
Zionism thrives off propaganda and said propaganda is being spread by higher-ups in the music industry as we speak. Not to mention, said people are directly funding that genocide with money from music consumers. Them existing in this industry, means they have the money and the connections to keep spreading propaganda whether it’s in the industry or through their social media. This propaganda is one of the reasons why this genocide is still able to keep happening and thriving! If these people are no longer in this space or in a position of power, it will stop the propaganda and also people’s money will not be used to fund a genocide anymore. It’s imperative that we don’t allow these CEOs and music executives to keep thriving in this space since they don’t deserve to be here in the first place. If you want to understand how these streams can fund the genocide, you can refer to this thread. If you don't have Twitter and can't check out the thread, you can check it through this post.
• How long will these boycotts last?
Until the needs are met! Meaning, when these people are possibly fired or removed from their positions and these labels and companies are no longer supporting or funding the genocide or supporting brands that are zionist
• Will the artists under these labels/companies will be affected by this boycott?
Honestly, that’s the last thing that should be on your mind right now. The boycotts are being done because we are in solidarity with Palestinian people and we want these labels and companies to stop platforming zionists and also fund the genocide. Some of the artists you might listen to are pretty established in the industry or are from these big companies and the truth of the matter is, they might not be affected. These artists must realize why this is being done and why we need to take such measures to get our point across

Emily Chudy at PinkNews:
A Bud Light boss has said the brand will “stay in our lane”, following anti-trans backlash over a video with influencer Dylan Mulvaney.
Mulvaney found herself on the receiving end of abuse after she collaborated with the beer brand for a single sponsored Instagram post last year. Soon after, right-wingers threatened to boycott the beer, with some seen smashing bottles on supermarket shelves. Musician Kid Rock even made a video of himself shooting several cans.  Following calls for a boycott, parent company Anheuser-Busch InBev reported in August that US sales of the beer had fallen dramatically. In future, the company will avoid political and social issues, and “stay in our lane” following “a very difficult moment”, bosses at Anheuser-Busch InBev have now said. “The major learning was: ‘Hey, I want to enjoy [Bud Light] when I’m not having to think about all of this, and I want to enjoy it with my friends,” Jason Warner, AB InBev’s chief executive Europe Zone, told The Telegraph.  “‘I want sports, I want music, I want fun, I want friends. I want everybody to be happy together. Unfortunately, the output of that was the complete opposite, which is not what we’re there to do.”
Following the intense anti-trans hate, Mulvaney spoke out against Bud Light, claiming the brand did not do enough to “stand by” her at the time. In an Instagram video last June, she revealed that she’d faced bullying and transphobia that made her “scared to leave my house”, after the advert was seen. “What transpired was more bullying and transphobia than I could have ever imagined… I was waiting for the brand to reach out to me, but they never did,” she claimed.
Just over a year after the Bud Light Dylan Mulvaney ad that caused mass backlash among conservatives and also among members of the LGBTQ+ community for not adequately sticking by Mulvaney when the backlash reached a fever pitch, Anheuser Busch InBev announced that it is going to “stay in our lane” (aka avoid social and political issues).

MY STATEMENT ON THE ISRAEL-PALESTINE CONFLICT:
Tumblr media
I stand with Palestine. And I ask you to keep those in Gaza in your thoughts and/or prayers. I am not anti-semitic, I condemn the actions, movements, and hate crimes of the Israeli government. I am sorry for the losses on both sides, but there is an obvious lean as to which has suffered the most. There are no students in Gaza Schools, the people of Bethlehem can't celebrate Christmas this year, and people are fearing for their lives. Support Palestine, Boycott if you can afford to, help where you can, sign petitions, use TikTok Filters and audios, and please stand with those that need you.
Tumblr media
If my personal beliefs or statement cause you to unfollow me, good. In the wonderful words of Melissa Barrera, "It has been brought to my attention that I offended some of you, I am truly sorry. I meant to offend, all of you."
Tumblr media
Boycott the following (if you can):
McDonalds, Starbucks, Google (use Ecosia), Amazon, Airbnb (US), Alaska Air, Adidas, American Eagle, American Airlines, AMEX, Apple, Bath & BodyWorks, BMW, Boeing, Bank of America, Chanel, Citi, Comcast, Dell, Delta Airlines, Disney, Estee Lauder, Forbes, Instacart, Intel, JPMorgan, Johnson & Johnson, Levi Strauss, Linkedin, Live Nation, Marriott, Mastercard, Meta, MeUndies, the NBA, Netflix, the NFL, Peloton, Paramount Global, Pfizer, Pillsbury, Sony Music, SoulCycle, Tesla, Tory Burch, United Airlines, UMG, UPS, Verizon, Volkswagen, UBS, Walmart, Warby Parker, Warner Brothers Discovery, Wells Fargo, the WWE, Zoom, the United States Government, Spyglass (creators of the newest SCREAM movies) and so many more.

The Morning After - Golden Globes 2023 Edition (and do award shows matter anymore - updated reckonings)
Tumblr media
(Yes I do recall when "The Morning After" posts actually came the morning after an awards show, this isn't one of those times. All content composed Jan 11th and editing completed Jan 12th)
After a year of canceled broadcasts and celebrity boycotts amidst controversy regarding diversity and representation, the Golden Globes returned last night for their 80th award show. Perhaps not intentional, but these awards felt slightly subdued compared to past fanfare (or is it just that there weren't many red carpet pre-shows?) They were hosted by comedian Jarrod Carmichael, who was quick to point out why he got the job (he is a black gay artist), however his style of humour lacked the zip typically displayed by award show hosts to keep the show energized.
While I seem to be suffering from a lack of appreciation for Austin Butler's turn as Elvis Presley (he's good, I just didn't connect with the movie overall) there were no major upsets or surprises through the night. I do wonder if Wednesday might do better at the SAGs though, just from actors' appreciation of each other, and later voting cut-off dates. The series did hit Netflix a little late in the year.
Could The Fablemans winning the top prize be the start of a runaway train to the Oscars? If nothing else it would provide a series of always eloquent acceptance speeches from Spielberg that I'm on board for, even if consensus might indicate it's not be his finest work (I quite liked it)
Speaking of acceptance speeches, Ryan Murphy, this year's recipient of the Carol Burnett award for achievement in television, prepared a calculated but important message spotlighting LGBTQ+ trailblazing talents. I say "calculated" only in that Murphy doesn't ever seem to do anything without first weighing out its relevance, importance, and how to best maximize its effect. In this instance I'm glad he's done it.
And lastly, how much gravitas do awards show still hold? Last time you wanted to find out if a film was any good, did you look for a list of nominations and awards? Or did you open your Letterboxd app, or go to Rotten Tomatoes and IMDB? Perhaps an Oscar, but overall I give little consideration to how many Globes a movie has picked up before pressing play.
Enough preamble though, let's look at these winners:
Best Picture, Drama
“Avatar: The Way of Water” (20th Century Studios)
“Elvis” (Warner Bros.)
“The Fabelmans” (Universal Pictures) (WINNER)
“Tár” (Focus Features)
“Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount Pictures)
The globes have historically been an early indicator of who will take home the Best Picture Oscar, but increasingly inaccurate in recent years. This year's drama list seems primarily composed of crowd pleasers save for Tar (terrific but not nearly as accessible), with no clear frontrunners at this stage.
Best Picture, Musical or Comedy
“Babylon” (Paramount Pictures)
“The Banshees of Inisherin” (Searchlight Pictures) (WINNER)
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” (A24)
“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery” (Netflix)
“Triangle of Sadness” (Neon)
If the dramas are crowd pleasers than the Musical/Comedy offerings seem rather not-on-my-wavelength. Everything Everywhere and Glass Onion were fun, Babylon was unconvincing, The Banshees of Inisherin original but not mindblowing, and I've resisted seeing Triangle of Sadness (I do plan to watch it soon. I'm in the minority, but I don't find Ruben Ostlund's work very palatable.) Overall Banshees was the outcome I expected.
Best Director, Motion Picture
James Cameron (“Avatar: The Way of Water”)
Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”)
Baz Luhrmann (“Elvis”)
Martin McDonagh (“The Banshees of Inisherin”)
Steven Spielberg (“The Fabelmans”) (WINNER)
Spielberg's a master but I would have picked Martin McDonagh or the Daniels for this category. Luhrmann's nomination I have minor objections to, HE could have made the film better... but didn't.
Best Screenplay, Motion Picture
“Tár” (Focus Features) — Todd Field
“Everything Everywhere All at Once” (A24) — Daniel Kwan, Daniel Scheinert
“The Banshees of Inisherin” (Searchlight Pictures) — Martin McDonagh (WINNER)
“Women Talking” (MGM/United Artists Releasing) — Sarah Polley
“The Fabelmans” (Universal Pictures) — Steven Spielberg, Tony Kushner
What a wonderfully stacked category! I'd want to read any of these any day.
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Drama
Austin Butler (“Elvis”) (WINNER)
Brendan Fraser (“The Whale”)
Hugh Jackman (“The Son”)
Bill Nighy (“Living”)
Jeremy Pope (“The Inspection”)
It's not that I didn't detect greatness in Austin Butler's performance, but I had found the pacing in Elvis uneven, and I harbour a certain amount of disinterest in Elvis Presley the person. With Brendan Fraser's boycott of the HFPA, it came as no surprise that he didn't win. Jeremy Pope is the underdog here, again I didn't love The Inspection but his portrayal was very compelling.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama
Cate Blanchett (“Tár”) (WINNER)
Olivia Colman (“Empire of Light”)
Viola Davis (“The Woman King”)
Ana de Armas (“Blonde”)
Michelle Williams (“The Fabelmans”)
Tar is not the easiest film to watch, but rewarding if you make it through. I haven't seen The Woman King, and resisted watching Blonde (life is short, I shouldn't have to keep watching films about icons that I don't particularly like lol) Michelle Williams is an obvious choice, Olivia Colman is understated and lovely (just like she is!), but Cate Blanchett is unbeatable.
Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Lesley Manville (“Mrs. Harris Goes to Paris”)
Margot Robbie (“Babylon”)
Anya Taylor-Joy (“The Menu”)
Emma Thompson (“Good Luck to You, Leo Grande”)
Michelle Yeoh (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) (WINNER)
We all know I would have rioted if Michelle Yeoh hadn't won right? I saw a few remarks online lamenting how Hollywood has reduced her to a comedic actress when she's a powerhouse across all genres and one of the greatest martial arts talents in the business. She is all of these things yes, but as she and other fellow winners mentioned, it's about not getting the opportunities and so for her to finally get a smidge of the recognition she deserves is already a giant step forward. In case anyone needs reminding, Michelle Yeoh was one of the leads in Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon (nominated for 10 Academy Awards including Best Picture, of which they won 4)
Best Performance by an Actor in a Motion Picture, Musical or Comedy
Diego Calva (“Babylon”)
Daniel Craig (“Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery”)
Adam Driver (“White Noise”)
Colin Farrell (“The Banshees of Inisherin”) (WINNER)
Ralph Fiennes (“The Menu”)
Best Supporting Actor – Motion Picture
Brendan Gleeson (“The Banshees of Inisherin”)
Barry Keoghan (“The Banshees of Inisherin”)
Brad Pitt (“Babylon”)
Ke Huy Quan (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”) WINNER
Eddie Redmayne (“The Good Nurse”)
Was there anything more satisfying than seeing Ke Huy Quan win his award and to hear him speak about quitting acting and questioning whether his past success was really the result of for his ability or just luck. It's been such a journey that led him to this win (on the same night as his Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom director Steven Spielberg! Aww...)
Best Supporting Actress, Motion Picture
Angela Bassett (“Black Panther: Wakanda Forever”) WINNER
Kerry Condon (“The Banshees of Inisherin”)
Jamie Lee Curtis (“Everything Everywhere All at Once”)
Dolly De Leon (“Triangle of Sadness”)
Carey Mulligan (“She Said”)
Best Television Series, Drama
“Better Call Saul” (AMC)
“The Crown” (Netflix)
“House of the Dragon” (HBO) (WINNER)
“Ozark” (Netflix)
“Severance” (Apple TV+)
I'm very lacking in my knowledge of the Television nominees but I find it hard to believe anyone would think House of the Dragon was the best of anything. While I enjoyed it fine, a large chunk of it was just fan service and lacked originality.
Best Television Series, Musical or Comedy
“Abbott Elementary” (ABC) (WINNER)
“The Bear” (FX)
“Hacks” (HBO Max)
“Only Murders in the Building” (Hulu)
“Wednesday” (Netflix)
Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series, Drama
Jeff Bridges (“The Old Man”)
Kevin Costner (“Yellowstone”) (WINNER)
Diego Luna (“Andor”)
Bob Odenkirk (“Better Call Saul”)
Adam Scott (“Severance”)
Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series, Drama
Emma D’Arcy (“House of the Dragon”)
Laura Linney (“Ozark”)
Imelda Staunton (“The Crown”)
Hilary Swank (“Alaska Daily”)
Zendaya (“Euphoria”) (WINNER)
I've never seen Eurphoria (in fact I don't know anything about it) but Zendaya is transformative in almost everything she does. She's a star, but I'm still surprised she not an even bigger star.
Best Actress in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy
Quinta Brunson (“Abbott Elementary”) (WINNER)
Kaley Cuoco (“The Flight Attendant”)
Selena Gomez (“Only Murders in the Building”)
Jenna Ortega (“Wednesday”)
Jean Smart (“Hacks”)
Best Actor in a TV Series, Musical or Comedy
Donald Glover (“Atlanta”)
Bill Hader (“Barry”)
Steve Martin (“Only Murders in the Building”)
Martin Short (“Only Murders in the Building”)
Jeremy Allen White (“The Bear”) (WINNER)
Best Supporting Actor, Television
John Lithgow (“The Old Man”)
Jonathan Pryce (“The Crown”)
John Turturro (“Severance”)
Tyler James Williams (“Abbott Elementary”) WINNER
Henry Winkler (“Barry”)
Best Supporting Actress, Television
Elizabeth Debicki (“The Crown”)
Hannah Einbinder (“Hacks”)
Julia Garner (“Ozark”) (WINNER)
Janelle James (“Abbott Elementary”)
Sheryl Lee Ralph (“Abbott Elementary”)
Best Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture made for Television
“Black Bird” (Apple TV+)
“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story” (Netflix)
“The Dropout” (Hulu)
“Pam & Tommy” (Hulu)
“The White Lotus” (HBO) (WINNER)
Best Performance by an Actor, Limited Series, Anthology Series or Motion Picture made for Television
Taron Egerton (“Black Bird”)
Colin Firth (“The Staircase”)
Andrew Garfield (“Under the Banner of Heaven”)
Evan Peters (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”) (WINNER)
Sebastian Stan (“Pam & Tommy”)
Best Performance by an Actress, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture made for Television
Jessica Chastain (“George and Tammy”)
Julia Garner (“Inventing Anna”)
Lily James (“Pam & Tommy”)
Julia Roberts (“Gaslit”)
Amanda Seyfried (“The Dropout”) (WINNER)
Best Performance by an Actress in Supporting Role, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture made for Television
Jennifer Coolidge (“The White Lotus”) (WINNER)
Claire Danes (“Fleishman Is in Trouble”)
Daisy Edgar-Jones (“Under the Banner of Heaven”)
Niecy Nash-Betts (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”)
Aubrey Plaza (“The White Lotus”)
I need to watch The White Lotus, not just for Jennifer Coolidge - though I would listen to her interpret the phone book.
Best Performance by an Actor in Supporting Role, Limited Series, Anthology Series or a Motion Picture made for Television
F. Murray Abraham (“The White Lotus”)
Domhnall Gleeson (“The Patient”)
Paul Walter Hauser (“Black Bird”) (WINNER)
Richard Jenkins (“Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story”)
Seth Rogen (“Pam & Tommy”)
Best Original Score, Motion Picture
“The Banshees of Inisherin” (Searchlight Pictures) — Carter Burwell
“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” (Netflix) — Alexandre Desplat
“Women Talking” (MGM/United Artists Releasing) — Hildur Guðnadóttir
“Babylon” (Paramount Pictures) — Justin Hurwitz (WINNER)
“The Fabelmans” (Universal Pictures) — John Williams
What a great list of nominees in this category! I think Tar deserves an honourable mention here as well. I'm a big fan of Justin Hurwitz's work (First Man is still my favourite).
Best Picture, Non-English Language
“All Quiet on the Western Front” (Germany)
“Argentina, 1985” (Argentina) (WINNER)
“Close” (Belgium)
“Decision to Leave” (South Korea)
“RRR” (India)
Well this is embarassing, Argentina, 1985 is the only film on this list I'm not familiar with. Time to educate myself...
Best Original Song, Motion Picture
“Carolina” from “Where the Crawdads Sing” (Sony Pictures) — Taylor Swift
“Ciao Papa” from “Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” (Netflix) — Alexandre Desplat, Roeban Katz, Guillermo del Toro
“Hold My Hand” from “Top Gun: Maverick” (Paramount Pictures) — Lady Gaga, BloodPop, Benjamin Rice
“Lift Me Up” from “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever” (Marvel Studios) — Tems, Ludwig Göransson, Rihanna, Ryan Coogler
“Naatu Naatu” from “RRR” (Variance Films) — Kala Bhairava, M. M. Keeravani, Rahul Sipligunj (WINNER)
How cool was it that Naatu Naatu (which I've not heard in its entirely but sounds like a fun lively tune) beat out Taylor Swift and others to win this category.
Best Motion Picture, Animated
“Guillermo del Toro’s Pinocchio” (Netflix) (WINNER)
“Inu-Oh” (GKIDS)
“Marcel the Shell With Shoes On” (A24)
“Puss in Boots: The Last Wish” (DreamWorks Animation)
“Turning Red” (Pixar)
^^ Turning Red got a nomination :) That's something.
Some upcoming awards show include The Critic's Choice Awards on January 15th, BAFTAs on February 19th, The Screen Actor's Guild Awards airing February 26th, and of course the Oscars on March 12th.

Ice-T's Body Count Gets First Book
Tumblr media
Ben Apatoff has written the first book about Ice-T's heavy metal band Body Count. The book is part of the Bloomsbury 33 1/3 series that has published several titles chronicling noteworthy albums from pop artists across genres. Ice-T introduced his all-Black hardcore band in 1991 on his O.G. Original Gangster album and they performed at the first ever Lollapalooza that summer. Their debut album included the incendiary "Cop Killer" which was criticized by President George H.W. Bush and Vice-President Dan Quayle. Police organizations called for the boycott of Time Warner and Ice-T had the song removed from the album because he felt that the outrage had overshadowed the music.
Apatoff tells the story of a bunch of high school friends who got together and reclaimed rock and roll to tell stories from a Black perspective that was rarely if ever presented in mainstream media. The author conducted interviews with Ice-T, Ernie C, Sean E. Sean, Vincent Price, Ill Will, Juan of the Dead, Jello Biafra, Bobby Brooks, Max Cavalera, Dan Charnas, Doc Coyle, Heidi Siegmund Cuda, Chuck D, Laina Dawes, Ron DeLord, Corey Glover, Dave Halili, David Harleston, Gibby Haynes, Gary Holt, Howie Klein, Chris “Hot Rod” Long, Matt Mahurin, Bernard Matthews, Duff McKagan, Bob Merlis, Angelo Moore, Darlene Ortiz, Phyllis Pollack, Will Putney, Vernon Reid, Henry Rollins, Troy Staton, Steve Stewart, Jean-Claude Van Damme, Ulrich Wild, Juan Williams, Mark Zonder and more.  Body Count will be released on September 7, 2023.

If you'll be my bodyguard, I can be your long lost pal.

Paul Simon - Graceland (Warner Bros., 1986) Photograph by Mark Sexton, art direction by Jeffrey Kent Ayeroff and Jeri McManus, design by Kim Champagne
The cover is an Ethiopian Christian icon dated from the 15th century or so. It's in the possession of the Peabody Essex Museum in Salem, Massachusetts.
This album returned Paul to the top 10 in the Billboard 200 after spending the decade in decline. The music video for "You Can Call Me Al" was just absolutely hysterical. Kudos to Paul for putting up with Chevy Chase's (in-universe) bullshit.
The album also generated some criticism due to integrating South African influences and styles at a time when the country was still under cultural boycott due to apartheid. Yeah, not the wisest move there, Paul.

Was the Golden Globe killed because of scandals?
Then there were two dubious nominations for the Globes Emily in Parisincluding Best Television Series Musical or Comedy, which followed the Paramount Network which treated more than 30 voters on a lavish show visit in France that included two nights in a five-star hotel. Protests that followed the revelations included the return of Tom Cruise to his three Golden Globe Awards, a Times Up campaigning to protest the lack of black members, more than 100 public relations firms signing an open letter saying the association could lose access to the stars without reform, and a boycott by Netflix. Amazon and Warner Media. After NBC decided not to air “The Globe,” the association promised long-awaited reforms to improve accountability and increase diversity. They added new members, some of whom were black, banned members from accepting gifts, appointed a chief diversity officer, and created a credentials committee to reaccredit existing members. As NBC airs The Globes again in a one-year deal, there is still a power struggle in Hollywood over whether the reforms are enough. Craig Grewe, who has worked in marketing in Hollywood for decades, writes that the association now has “more rules, more watchdogs, more guidelines and more ethical separation than any other voting organization in Hollywood” and puts the boycott on “a select few leaders” public relations agencies, mostly white and mostly female, [who] I decided to take over the globe to seize power.” HFPA spokesman James Lee says it now has 200 electors and that the Globes “will now be the only major Hollywood award that will be voted on by a majority of women and racial minority electors.” but according to The Hollywood ReporterMany in Hollywood still consider the association morally suspect, noting that a quarter of its members voted against the changes and none were disqualified by what was promoted as stricter accreditation criteria. That reputation hasn’t been helped by news that sports and entertainment magnate Todd Boehley’s investment firm Eldridge Industries was taking over the association, turning it into a for-profit entity — philanthropic activities would continue under the not-for-profit arm — and members would receive an annual salary of $75,000. That raised eyebrows: these journalists would get a guaranteed salary before they even sold a single story? More than 100 new non-member journalists can vote at Globes, to increase diversity, but they will not be paid. Lee tells me that the HFPA will cease to exist soon when a new corporate entity takes over and its members will become full-time employees and may not be writing stories anymore. “Like any private for-profit startup, there will be a whole bunch of different jobs to be fulfilled,” he says. “It’s not just writing. It could be a whole bunch of other things.” loading Should the globe return to business as usual? It’s wise to remain skeptical since the same members are still voting, even if they are now outnumbered by a new, more diverse group of journalists. And the evasive behavior that he exposed Los Angeles Times It’s hard to forget. Although many in Hollywood are far from the worldview, they believe they need Globes because of all the challenges of the post-pandemic. “The Screen Actors Guild Awards aren’t even on TV anymore, the Independent Spirit Awards were dropped by its announcer, and the Emmys just hit an all-time low of 5.9 million viewers,” Lee says. So, if Hollywood is looking to market its products, especially to an international audience, so are the Oscars and Globes. There is nothing else.” But if the scandal didn’t kill the Globe, it wiped out the Hollywood Association of Foreign Journalists. The Hollywood star's White Fanart Status Quo 90s Design Music shirt . newly-hired attorneys shared a statement leaning into their focus on protecting the First Amendment rights of Americans, whilst also sharing their confidence the court will "reverse the judgment against Ms. Heard:" “We welcome the opportunity to represent Ms. Heard in this appeal as it is a case with important First Amendment implications for every American. We’re confident the appellate court will apply the law properly without deference to popularity, reverse the judgment against Ms. Heard, and reaffirm the fundamental principles of Freedom of Speech.” The case may be back in court in front of a judge and jury when Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom is playing in theaters from March 17, 2023. The controversy surrounding the case undoubtedly has the potential to harm the sequel's performance and Warner Bros. may well consider other release options due to this.White Fanart Status Quo 90s Design Music shirt, hoodie, sweater, longsleeve and ladies t-shirt

Classic Men's Between the soon-to-be resurrected Amber Heard controversy and the ongoing situation with Ezra Miller, Warner Bros White Fanart Status Quo 90s Design Music shirt . has a tough task ahead marketing its first two DC releases of 2023. Both The Flash and Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom are bound to be swarmed with controversy for their divisive stars. As Heard takes on a supporting role in Aquaman 2, compared to Miller who will appear in almost every scene of The Flash, the marketing task will prove much tougher for the speedster event. Nonetheless, with Warner Bros. already unpopular with fans after canceling Batgirl and other DC projects, the studio has a tough task ahead to preserve the brand. Fans were already discussing a boycott of Aquaman 2 during the original Heard vs. Depp trial, but that was expected to die down by the time the 2023 release came around. With the actress' controversy coming back to the forefront right around the planned release, Warner Bros. may end up shifting the date slightly further away from the legal battle to avoid negative press. Regarding the Columbia/publicist follow. I think it’s highly likely Harry did a song for the DWD soundtrack. We had the song registered under Warner Music, the biggest clue since the movie is with Warner Bros/New Line. But I started suspecting that when they did the pap walks with Tyler and then he followed O. Weren’t they all sitting around a table in Nashville too and it looked like a meeting not really friends just hanging out? We know everything between them is business, that wasn’t a friend follow or a casual hang sesh between buddies. O was prob trying to drop a hint when she said she was working on the sound mixing the other day too. And if you think about it, fans will definitely go crazy for a new song even if they boycott her garbage movie. They’re stupid but not that stupid, a hit song would be guaranteed $$$. It doesn’t actually mean anything regarding the stunt, if anything it just shows how EVERYTHING between them is business related. And I think one of your anons said the other day Robert Pattinson did music for Twilight as an example of it being a thing actors do sometimes. So that’s my bet on this most recent follow and some of the sightings we’ve had in the past.

How to respond to the Disney monopoly
Also known as: Why trying to boycott Disney movies won’t work and what you should do instead
(I know this isn’t super on-brand for this blog, but it is a media blog and we all benefit from one company not owning literally all of our media)
Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker and Frozen 2 are probably both going to make a billion dollars. You can encourage all your friends to boycott them, but that’s not likely to work. Trying to convince people to give up a franchise they’ve been invested in for years is a losing battle, and blockbuster franchises make so much money that you’d have to convince an awful lot of people in order to even make a dent. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn’t matter that much to Disney whether those movies make $1.2 or 1.3 billion.
BUT don’t let that discourage you. We just need to direct our energy to attainable goals. That $100 million could be the difference between a movie from a different studio kicking off a successful franchise versus being considered a failure.
A big part of keeping Disney from gobbling up even more IP is keeping other studios strong. Here are some upcoming movies from franchises not owned by Disney that you can support. Look them up and put the ones you’re interested in on your calendars. Release dates are for the US.
Fast & Furious Presents: Hobbs & Shaw (Universal), currently in theaters
Dora and the Lost City of Gold (Paramount), currently in theaters, potential franchise starter
The Angry Birds Movie 2 (Sony), currently in theaters
IT Chapter 2 (Warner Bros.), September 6
Rambo: Last Blood (Loinsgate), September 20
Abominable (Universal), September 27, potential franchise starter
Joker (Warner Bros.), October 4
The Addams Family (MGM), October 11, potential franchise starter
Gemini Man (Paramount), October 11, potential franchise starter
Jay and Silent Bob Reboot (Miramax), October 15
Zombieland: Double Tap (Sony), October 18
Terminator: Dark Fate (Paramount), November 1
Doctor Sleep (Warner Bros.), November 8
Charlie’s Angels (Sony), November 15, potential franchise starter
Jumanji: The Next Level (Sony), December 13
Black Christmas (Universal), December 13, potential franchise starter
Shaun The Sheep Movie: Farmageddon (StudioCanal), December 13
And here’s a tentative look at 2020. Not all titles are final and some of these release dates will probably change, but just so you have an idea of what to look for.
The Voyage of Doctor Doolittle (Universal), January 17, potential franchise starter
Birds of Prey (Warner Bros.), February 7
Peter Rabbit 2 (Sony), February 7
Sonic the Hedgehog (Paramount), February 14, potential franchise starter
Godzilla vs. Kong (Universal), March 13
A Quiet Place Part II (Paramount), March 20
Cyborg (Warner Bros.), April 3
No Time to Die (MGM), April 8
Trolls World Tour (Universal), April 17
Barbie (Warner Bros.), May 8, potential franchise starter
Legally Blonde 3 (MGM), May 8
Scooby Doo (Warner Bros.), May 15
SAW Reboot (Loinsgate), May 15
Fast & Furious 9 (Universal), May 22
The Spongebob Movie: It’s a Wonderful Sponge (Paramount), May 22
Wonder Woman 1984 (Warner Bros.), June 5
Candyman (Universal), June 12, potential franchise starter
Top Gun 2: Maverick (Paramount), June 26
Minions: The Rise of Gru (Universal), July 3
Ghostbusters (Sony), July 10
Purge 5 (Universal), July 10
Morbius (Sony), July 31
Escape Room 2 (Sony), August 14
Bill & Ted Face the Music (MGM), August 21
Monster Hunters (Sony), September 4, potential franchise starter
The Conjuring 3 (Warner Bros.), September 11
Halloween Kills (Universal), October 16
G.I. Joe: Ever Vigilante (Paramount), October 16, potential franchise starter
Dune (Warner Bros.), November 20, potential franchise starter
Uncharted (Sony), December 8, potential franchise starter
The Croods 2 (Universal), December 23
A lot of studios currently have franchises that aren’t doing well or have tried to launch franchises in the past couple of years, only to have the first movie fail. We can sit on tumblr and complain about Disney all day, but none of that changes the fact that people didn’t show up for Ghostbusters (2016) or Saban’s Power Rangers or LEGO Movie 2. Just shit talking Disney movies doesn’t actually do anything to help the situation. You have to support other studios when they try to compete.

Grateful Dead Monthly: Manhattan Center – New York, NY 4/4-6/71
Tumblr media
On Sunday through Tuesday, April 4-6, 1971, the Grateful Dead played a three-show run at Manhattan Center in New York City.
Tumblr media
The Manhattan Opera House opened in 1906, as Oscar Hammerstein’s cut-rate competitor for the hallowed Metropolitan Opera. The Met lost business, freaked out, and paid Hammerstein to stop for ten years. (I’m cribbing the Wiki.) The payout was $1.2M back then, which would be $31.8M now. Hammerstein pocketed the cash and sold the building to Scottish Freemasons, who held it until 1939 when it changed hands and names to the Manhattan Center.
Tumblr media
The Center has since served as a multipurpose venue. Still from the Wiki, it has hosted “radio broadcasts, recordings, and performances by such acts as Bunny Berigan, Paul Robeson, Judy Garland, Harry Belafonte, Perry Como, Leonard Bernstein, David Bowie, Bob Marley, Evanescence, Tool, and Alison Moyet,” as well as WWF events and America’s Got Talent. Diverse bunch. Oh, and the Good Ol’ Grateful Dead visited for the first and only time in 1971 for a dance marathon in that ballroom.
Tumblr media
Four songs (Big Railroad Blues, Playing in the Band, NFA > GDTRFB) from the three-night run appeared on live album Grateful Dead (a.k.a. “Skull & Roses” and “Skull Fuck”), which turns 50 this year.
Wiki explains the album’s title:
When the band submitted “Skull Fuck” (a contemporary euphemism for “blow your mind”) as the album title, it was rejected by the record label. Ultimately the agreement was made that the album would be published without the title appearing anywhere on the record labels or cover artwork. Though the band refers to the album by this title, and it has long been known to fans (through interviews with band members, the Deadhead network and other outlets), the alternate, descriptive title “Skull & Roses” developed among distributors, music buyers and reviewers as a graphic incipit from the cover artwork.
Drummer Bill Kreutzmann explained the lack of a title on the artwork and labels, “…the original name was going to be “Skull Fuck”. This was a time long before rap artists like Eminem numbed concerned citizens to the idea of offensive language in music. Warner Brothers [the band’s label] freaked out on us. They said stores would boycott it and we wouldn’t be able to get it on shelves.”
Inside the gatefold of the original LP, the band reached out directly to its burgeoning fan base, which had begun to attend multiple concerts in a row and collect live audio tapes of each concert, with a message reading:
DEAD FREAKS UNITE: Who are you? Where are you? How are you? Send us your name and address and we’ll keep you informed.
Dead Heads, P.O. Box 1065, San Rafael, California 94901.
The mailing address is no longer extant.

ECM loves an anniversary, so he suggested this album as our focus. Here are his brief listening notes…
4/4/71:
Final “Easy Wind” has a nice jam. Not sure why it was dropped from the repertoire. A rare, mid-first set Morning Dew is every bit as good as we would expect it to be.  St. Stephen was starting to become rare in 1971 but the ending jam in this one packs a big punch. There is some squealing feedback at the end of NFA that leads into a lovely show-closing Uncle John’s Band. However, overall, the band sounds a little tentative. Maybe it’s a case of the first night jitters or maybe it’s just that the soundboard is too clean(?)
Tumblr media
4/5/71:
Big Railroad Blues and GDTRFB. Both appear on the Skull & Roses album and are extremely hot. If you listen to the version on LMA you’ll notice some differences in the vocals compared with what we are familiar with on the album version which is due to overdubs. Also, I was always curious why the NFA reprise was left off the album. Well, the reason is because the band broke tradition and didn’t play it that evening. If you listen to the recording on LMA, the band teases the NFA reprise but just as they are about to play it they surprise us by charging into Lovelight. This is a monster version with wild, electric, unhinged jamming and a drunken-sounding Pig screaming and shouting at the audience like a maniac. A person who attended the show described it in a review he wrote on LMA: “Lovelight – it was only a red spotlight on Pig and I swear it was like Dante’s Inferno.” The jamming about halfway through the song is especially fierce as the boys land on a unique theme. Towards the end Phil brings the house down with some thunderous bass playing that is just unbelievable. An all time, 5-star version of this song, possibly the best of 1971. Other highlights include the debut of “Sing Me Back Home, China > Rider, a solid Truckin’ > Other One, Garcia’s solos in this early version of Deal and his yodeling in Bobby McGee (check it out!).
Tumblr media
4/6/71:
The rare songs in the first set…Oh Boy (Debut. Played only one other time – 12/12/81), I’m a Hog For You, Baby (Bust-out; last played 3/25/66. Played only 4 times ever. This was the last) and Dire Wolf, which was only played 3 times in 1971. A mid-first set appearance of Midnight Hour was also a pretty rare occurrence. Playing In The Band is the version used on the album Skull & Roses. The second set is highlighted by a chunky Greatest Story > Johnny B. Goode (a pairing that occurred 14 times and only in 1971), a raucous Good Lovin’ where Pigpen tells the audience to turn to the person next to them and say “Howdy” and then to take off their clothes and have a good ol’ time. The show closes with a rocking NFA>GDTRFB sandwich (played every night of this run) and then the band pulls out a show-stopping version of Truckin’ that is more reminiscent of 1977 than 1971.
