Unit Teambuilding - BP Barry
There are too many goddamn sync pairs today. At least this is a step away from Kanto for a bit. BP Barry and Roserade decided they wanted to be funny. Instead of being a good Poison type damage dealer, they're a Grass support. Everyone laugh. Laugh you fucking peasants! You wanted Poison anything? Fuck you! Limited! Variety Scouts! Variety Scouts for one million years!
General Overview Barry is a special support, granting +2 special attack and +1 to both defenses on trainer move. He can paralyze, and each attack against a paralyzed opponent is +1 crit for the team. It's disjointed, but eventually he gets where he's going. He also gets Team Pinpoint Entry 2, which is fairly fun. Absorb as a one-bar spam is also very nice for gauge conservation.
Barry's good. I won't call him great because he's not. But he is good. As a free pair, this is definitely getting some work done. But it does compete with Lodge Morty and BP Torchic. What Barry brings is, in exchange for speed of buffs or evasion play, he has Synthesis for sustain. I like this better. It's consistent, and it's clear. Stun Spore also makes him very useful for Gauntlet gimmicks. I won't call Barry exceptional. But he seems quite good for what he is.
EX and Move Level? Support, even as a 4*, is a 3/5 requirement. EX is up to personal preference. He doesn't gain anything in particular, but there are worse ideas.
Team 1: BP Barry, Caitlin, Bianca/Lucian A quick +2 Sp Atk with some defenses immediately brought me to Caitlin. It's exactly what she needs, and she handles crit herself. Meanwhile, Bianca can set Terrain, and Barry can slowly work on crit rate by paralyzing something and hitting it a couple times for crit rate. For a safer use of Barry, Lucian has speed boosting for Caitlin's Sync Power Flux, and you can turn off Offenses +5 to set No Field Changes.
Team 2: BP Barry, Eevee Kris/Clemont, Volkner/C!Elesa Barry can offload his Paralysis to an ally, and use it to buff crit rate as needed. Eevee Kris can also buff crit rate, but Barry supplies the added special attack for her and Elesa. Volkner is an alternative if you want flinch rate and a bit more Electric Terrain. Clemont is mentioned because Barry can pick up a node for debuffing speed, which helps Cakewalk a bit.
Team 3: BP Barry, NY Dawn, Fantina NY!Dawn appreciates any boosting, since she doubles the value. Dawn, if preferred, can evade tank effectively as well. Barry's buffing does give her +2 compared to his own +1. Throw in Fantina, and you have a decent damage core for the team.
Final Thoughts I admit, I struggled to find good comps for Barry. Paralysis isn't often a requirement for damage, so much as for Gauntlet gimmicks. So it's hard to really...bring up much for him. He's a good Uxie answer with the Attack Trap, and he's got Tornadus and Cobalion on lock too thanks to this. I don't know. He's good, but in a general sense, I guess.

Friday BP: Darren Criss to sing anthem for Giants home opener
I was over the moon yesterday when the San Francisco Giants announced that Emmy and Golden Globe award winner Darren Criss will be appearing to sing the national anthem for the home opener on April 7th against the Kansas City Royals.
Criss is perhaps best known for his roles on “Glee” and “American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace” (for which he won Emmy and Golden Globe awards in 2018). He is also an accomplished musician, a San Francisco native, and a life long Giants fan.
Full disclosure, I might be one of the biggest Darren Criss fans there is. I’ve followed him since his days on YouTube, where he got his start singing Disney covers, and then with the theater company he co-founded called Starkid Productions, with whom he played Harry Potter in their A Very Potter Musical series.
In the peak years of his run as Blaine Anderson on “Glee” I had hoped to see him get to sing at one of the Giants’ playoff home games in the 2010-2014 championship era, but it was his “Glee” co-star Matthew Morrison (a friend of Barry Zito) who got the opportunity in Game 2 of the 2012 World Series. So this will mark Criss’ first time singing the anthem for his hometown team.
I’ve seen Criss perform live multiple times, most recently when he was starring in a run of Hedwig and the Angry Inch in San Francisco in 2016. Not only was his love for the Giants enshrined in his section of the playbill, but he made repeated references to (then) AT&T Park during the show (which features a fair amount of ad-libbing in the performances).
So I, for one, am even more excited now about the home opener and Giants baseball returning to Oracle Park.

Andrew Kreisberg’s wife is DP’s manager. He was definitely pandering to her and the SB crowd 😐 in S1. However, I don’t honestly think that he told her that it was definitely happening. I think she saw what happened on Green ERROR and presumed Caitlin and Barry’s relationship would go in the same direction as Oliver/Felicity’s. However, they opted to go with BP because they were, at the time, canon in the N52 (although if you were paying attention you saw Barry was running away from Patty and towards Iris there as well. I couldn’t resist a Flash pun). DP constantly trying to erase Iris/Candace S1 in interviews was annoying AF. She would “embarrass” herself trying to act like something was happening between her and Barry (despite the fact that Barry was clearly in love with Iris and Caitlin was supposed to be so distraught over Ronnie). What’s worse is the fact that while Candice was proactively advocating for Caitlin, Iris and all women on the show Danielle was simultaneously trying to eliminate her.

2, 6, 7, 8, 14, 15, 18, 19 for Eddy (I know I'm too late, but I would like to know, please).
Thanks for the ask!!! No worries about it being late:) Good to chat (even if I talk a load of bologna 😁)
Under the cut
2.Favorite canon thing about this character?
Because I can't think of anything better right now, I'll say his seemingly vintage taste in music. Although maybe it ties in with everything he owns being vintage hand-me-downs. And on second thought, it's hard to say if Barry White and Tom Jones are supposed to be old-school in-universe, considering the kids' idea of party music is 60s surf rock haha.
6.What's something you have in common with this character?
You know, I always think I'm mostly an Ed and an Edd, but then I think "maybe we all have the three Eds deep down inside of us 😁" guess I sometimes like to imagine situations in which I could be a show off/be funny in front of an audience... A very Eddy desire.
7.What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you like?
I always love older fanart of him just having that slightly disheveled look and maybe smoking a cigarette, looking cool 😁 makes me imagine him with that slightly chiller demeanor (assuming he grows out some of his temper and controls his euphoria whenever he's got some big idea hehe)
8.What's something the fandom does when it comes to this character that you despise?
Boring answer, but like everyone else I have not much interest in negative adult Eddy portrayals where the creator blatantly doesn't take the BPS developments into account. Give this kid a chance for chrissakes! Thankfully this is limited to some more, ahem, 'casual' fans 👀
14. Fashion aesthetic for this character.
In my lack of fashion sense, I'm just gonna mention a picture in my mind...leather jacket? (Maybe because of @torra-and-the-toons 's design?) Coupled with worn baggy jeans...
And is it weird I can see Eddy looking good in that sweater/collar-shirt combo if he were to dress more elegant? I swear I've seen it somewhere in fanart. Or him just wearing a hoodie... Is there look Eddy can't pull off??? Talk about a stubby no-neck chump 😎
15. Favorite ship?
It's... EddEddy, isn't it. Interestingly, it was never my OTP, and I wasn't interested in it when I first got in the fandom, but I slowly made myself learn to appreciate it. Nowadays it's certainly a ship I "default" to with those two characters. On the other hand I once went through a KevEddy phase... I still have a soft spot for it (no doubt thanks to lovely fanart by @mar-saturn and @chocowhomps ). It's also very interesting to me that there's at least 3 people I know of currently in the fandom (or who were actively in the fandom in the last year or so) who managed to ship both EddEddy and KevEddy, mmm 🧐...
18. Relationship they have in canon with another character that you admire?
First thing that comes to mind is his brief mentoring of Jimmy, even if it's a negative influence. "They grow up so fast... *dries tear*" And his one-on-one friendship with Ed is interesting to think about, especially how it might have started considering Edd supposedly came a little later in the picture (not by much though as they were still very young)
Also his crush on Nazz is kinda cute... I headcanon they'll be easy friends once they're a little older :)
19. Relationship they have in canon with another character that you don't like?
Honestly I'm stumped! Can't think of anyone right now haha. Maybe his disrespect of Rolf's culture/hospitality, if that's a thing? But I can't say if that's necessarily despicable or just part of the character's writing in certain episodes, or what.
Thanks for the ask again!

Are Barry's strange symptoms (extremly temperature, too BP and green stuff in his blood from vol. 1) his hallucinations about being ill?
Those were actually examples of tampered medical equipment that the hospital manufactures (mentioned in v1 in the scene with the rats and Cuddles)

i’m disinclined to view banshees as the BP underdog because while it’s somewhat non traditional - it’s not as brooding as BP darlings like power of the dog, roma, or 1917 - it’s also not as “accessible” and open as underdog winners like green book, coda, and parasite. it’s still metaphorical and artsy. but more importantly, martin mcdonagh is an academy favorite. they’ve recognized him several times. sam mendes, jane campion, and alfonso cuarón had all also been previously recognized, while bong joon ho, peter farrelly, and sian heder especially had never previously been recognized by the academy. same goes for chloe zhao (2021) and barry jenkins (2017), and it was really moonlight’s win IMO that started this whole trend of bucking convention. every oscars since then they’ve awarded a non-traditional pick for best picture. the shape of water is the only one that’s somewhat in a gray area because GDT had been recognized before but the film itself was nonconventional (sci-fi/fantasy elements, lighthearted rather than brooding, etc).

Oh, right. It's almost time for Gauntlet. I actually have prepared the draft for my team compilations at the beginning of this month, but I haven't updated much of it. Anyway, here's my teams. As always, team compilation may subject to change.
Entei Team
1. Siebold (I actually plan to try soloing Entei with just Siebold, because he has some self-healing and can most definitely nukes Entei's health bar. However, Entei hits hard, and there's a very likely chance I might reset a lot, run out of patience and give up. In that case, I'll bring Marley to assist him, and Cheren to heal Burn).
2. Sabrina/Cyrus/Tech Blastoise
3. Spring Burgh/SS Grimsley/Tech Gyarados
4. SS Kris/Barry/Striker Gyarados (might suffer from gauge but gonna try first)

Champion Stadium clears, testing out the new sync pairs, and trying to stay mostly within the F2P lines. There are some exceptions, though...
Vs. Karen BP Barry is really good. Like, this kit rules. Him and base Erika form a really strong partnership to an EX Striker like Lusamine, who may need a bit of crit, and a lot of special attack. Barry supplies it all, with solid defensive profile and Synthesis to sustain. I am exceptionally impressed with his work.
Vs. Will Defensive supports are nice for pairs that are offensively self-sufficient, or for longer modes like Gauntlet. In CS, I feel like defensive supports largely exist for stall. You'll be happy to know, Olivia does this pretty well. X Regen All is nice gradual recovery for the sides to shrug off sync, while her own Protect and First Aid 4 can keep her in place longer than you might expect. I'm not blown away by her performance, but she accomplishes a goal and serves nicely within Stall Meta.
Vs. Koga And now we reach mistakes. A major problem with the BP Master Pairs this time around is that the buffing kit is very poor. Registeel, in particular, kinda sucks. Defensive boosts are decent, but only self-applied, which means sides will obliterate your allies with AoE. Cutting healing in half is a generally smart strat in CS, but Registeel works entirely with recovery so it's hard to facilitate. Its speed boosting, a major draw of its kit, is slow to start up given your two TMs to max defenses, then probably throwing out Potions as needed, resulting in few actual attacks occurring. It's also just not that sturdy. Even with +6, it didn't take much for Koga to overwhelm it. This was carried by Kukui's flinch and Candice's sync bombs, which also needed to remember to reset Hail for Sure Crit or she'd die.
Vs. Bruno Believe it or not, I actually don't respect SEUN on its own. Even aside from how much content these days focuses on off-type, a major issue is that it tends to come with limited offensive support. Dana is a pretty good example of the issue. When looking to the lower tiers that most want this, they can't buff, and she can't help them. The closest we came was Gardenia, who had two problems. One is setup. Without 3/5 Dana, we just didn't have the ability to save a turn off Dire Hit+, or the ability to boost special attack enough for Gardenia to win. The other is bulk. Dana can buff both defenses eventually, but skews special, so a physical stage like this is very difficult for her. I had to settle on SS Erika as the only option with really good self-setup, and to be honest, Erika could've done with this other pairs. This is decisively not Dana's best showing, and I'm feeling very strongly that this is a pair that lives and dies by 3/5 access when considering anything but the elite in self-setup.
Vs. Lance Look, I needed to test out BP Valerie, I adore her. Off-typing Lance it is. This is a particularly scary fight, because of the high BP moves that Lance throws around constantly. Even H!Caitlin has trouble with it. That said, permanent field condition is a choice this time, so welcome to easy street. Caitlin's shields last through Lance's sync, and Colress can debuff accuracy to really cheese round 2. I will say, with concentrated DPS and a flinch off Iron Head, it...legitimately might have been possible to pre-sync clear center. Valerie's pretty impressive on DPS. Sync isn't fantastic without on-type, but we knew that already. Overall though, very satisfied with her performance.
BP Falkner Falkner was the odd man out here. I wasn't exactly confident in his off-type sync potential, so I dropped it. That said, in more closely assessing how he could've been used, I did recognize two things. One is, his speed debuffing is great for Cakewalk. Second, his attack debuffing with Defog would've made something like Bruno much, much easier to handle, as he removes all the shields and offsets parameters. Third, Confuse. This one was especially salient, because I remembered Tate exists, and has hilarious DPS numbers on-type when facilitated, with Cakewalk as the sync. Tate might be Falkner's best F2P partner, facilitating effectively every condition for DPS and Sync that Tate needs. Now if only we had a Psychic Terrain support.

Todos fazem parte do Polígono do Pré-Sal.
